how she woke up as he went into the bathroom, and took a peek at his wallet on the side table, and saw the picture of serafina and her kids.

how her heart dropped, and when she met serafina, she saw an exhausted kindred spirit, pregnant with a baby girl who would be the same age as her own daughter. how they clicked, like they were meant to be sisters, but just lost their way for a bit before finding each other.

how she was so ridiculously overjoyed when serafina moved into the neighborhood, being able to watch the budding romance blooming between her new sister and tugger and mistoffelees.

how she got to have another sister, for just a little while, and how serafina loved her and bombalurina like they were her blood, how skimbleshanks and jennyanydots loved serafina like she was their own.

how when she met her nieces and nephew, and saw athena's hair on sekhmet's head, athena's frown on ares' face, and little persephone, barely a few years old, and she realized who their father was, and when she read athena's letter, everything grew cold.

every feeling she had when she saw the picture of serafina and her children in macavity's wallet came back tenfold. the pain, the anger, the guilt, the absolute fury.

and when macavity came walking into the backyard on the day of the memorial, eyes full of self-pity and hands offering gifts, private things that belonged to her sisters that he had no right to hold onto, demeter felt nothing but hatred in her heart.

demeter hadn't known about serafina and athena, or their sweet little babies that she would one day come to love as her own.

but macavity had.

and demeter would never forgive that.

OKAY so! Literally why didnt I think of this the first time but anywho!!

Each member of the Jellicles have their own roles, both within their respective families and the organisation as a whole. Munkustrap, as well as being the heir to his father, mainly working with the business and financial work (mainly fronts) when hes not doing any protector work.

He mainly works in the clubs he co runs with Tugger.

Tugger as forth in line to taking over for his father (behind munk and his Neices) chose he wanted to run some of the main clubs and bars they had as fronts, oftentimes letting it be an excuse for him to get involved with performing the live music. His goal for his job was to make sure they had the best entertainment to get the most amount of revenue. Munk, to his surprise, thought it was a great idea and now they work on it together!!

Misto runs the gambling rings (originally just for his family, but quickly picked up doing it for the Deuteronomys as well) (ones that are situated in munk and tuggers clubs after the jellicles were formed) since he is the undisputed champion in any card game (he can pick any card from a pack) not to mention a killer with games that involve any dice, (hes equally cunning with dice)

He uses his talents to manipulate the games he watches over in the jellicles (or whoever's playing his favourites) favor, without anyone being non the wiser!

Tugger is literally obsessed with this small cat and how he is yet to be beaten seriously at any game thrown his way!

Macavity takes all this as a personal attack, since one of his main exports came from gambling that came from his clubs. This lead to him personally challenging misto to a game of poker.

This obviously becomes the poker game of the century!

I saw your post about Human AU faces, and I was wondering if you had any in mind for the Demelonzostrap family? :)

I absolutely do! For them, I need to note that a few faces come to mind, and some might have the look while others have the voices if that makes any sense - if I could puzzle certain bits together, I would. Also, like the standard, these people all exist at a particular age in a particular space and at the same time if that makes sense.

Alonzo - Justin Baldoni and Luke Pasqualino

Munkustrap - Aldis Hodge (the accent isn't what I imagine, but I love his face - Nicholas Pinnock would be a closer VC, but honestly I'm very married to the Jack Rebaldi Munkustrap voice in any iteration)

Demeter - Archie Panjabi circa the early to mid 2000s, though one of the pictures chosen was from when she was in Snowpiercer, but I kinda dig the idea of human!Demeter having scars on her face

I also like Sonoya Mizuno and Kerri McLean - depends on how I'm feeling. The FCs for Jemi and Silly would change accordingly if the faces were swapped.

Jemima - Yara Shahidi (Circa 2009/10ish) and Wendi Motte when she was younger, and I always see Jemima as having those grey/blue eyes that are just *really* pale

29. A headcanon that breaks my heart

If Misto hadn’t become friends with Tugger, he would have fallen prey to Macavity, much like Demeter did.

Now this is based on a particular set of headcanons that I have. But, basically;

After Macavity ‘leaves’ the tribe, young Misto finds himself treated with suspicion, like a ticking time bomb. Macavity had physical magic more powerful than anyone, perhaps that’s what corrupted him? So now people murmur, ‘what if Misto turns out just like him. What if he becomes a monster?’

So Misto hides his magic, makes it less than what it is. “I can only do lights. Nothing else.”

But he still needs to use it. He feels Wrong if he doesn’t. So he practices, alone, far from the tribe.

Eventually, Macavity finds him. He convinces him that the stories about him were inventions, slander. He offers to train him, to help him.

At first, Misto refuses, terrified. But he comes back. The promise of having someone Show him how to do control his magic is too enticing.

He is a good target. Already a bit reclusive, the aftermath of Macavity has made him an outcast. He’s lonely, craving guidance, craving someone like himself. He has a good heart, and is willing to believe Macavity’s stories. He’s naive. He doesn’t understand that people lie.

Macavity shapes himself into everything Misto needs. A friend, a mentor, a companion. But at the same time, he chips away at his supports.

No one else can be trusted. “Look at how they treated me. I lost control once, and they rejected me, exiled me. And I was the honored heir. What do you think they’ll do to you?”

It isn’t hard. Misto is already painfully aware of how the others look at him. Victoria is the only person he can trust.

And then there’s an accident. An accident that he causes. And in the aftermath, he hears the whispers. “Just like Macavity.”

Misto runs. He runs to Macavity, cries that he should have listened to his warnings, that no one could be trusted. He could only trust Macavity. He begs him to take him away, So he does. Macavity spirits Misto away to his own clowder. Waiting are a pair of mischievous calico twins, a beautiful ruby haired queen, and a golden queen with anxious eyes, all ready to be his new family.

But now that he has what he wants, Macavity no longer needs to play nice.

30. Something that mends it.

But this isn’t what happens. Instead, Tugger finds Misto in the outlands, practicing his magic.

And so, he’s the one who helps Misto. He too has grown up in the shadow of Macavity. He too has a chip in his shoulder.

He becomes Misto’s friend. He admires his abilities, his talents, encourages him. Though lacking overt magic of his own, his passion and excitement give Misto confidence.

He believes in him. He fosters trust. He thinks the others will accept Misto, and if they don’t, well then he’ll make them see what he sees!

So when Old Deuteronomy is kidnapped, that’s exactly what he does. “I will show them the you that I see. I will make them see you for who you are. And you are going to show them exactly how brilliant you are. I know it.”

Guess what I just found in my drafts that I meant to publish like... a year ago 🥴🙃🥲 Anyway, have some details about my CATS Speakeasy AU! I'm really hoping to get back around to this in more detail sometime soonish, so better to study up now...

Munk is the adopted son of Old Deut, who raised many such foundlings and in general created a safe place for anyone who didn't have one. In the narrative of the AU, he's trying to solve one of Macavity's plots (probably some kind of kidnapping situation). He also takes care of Jemima, who was left on his doorstep in an echo of his own origin. Plato tags along as his apprentice, although he's not often helpful with his two younger brothers, Tumblebrutus and Pouncival, getting in his way.

The titular speakeasy, The Smitten Kitten, is co-run by Deme and Bomba, as a way to get back on their feet after escaping from Macavity (along with Alonzo, who plays piano). Tugger is also here, doing miscellaneous jobs and generally being an obnoxious flirt. Romances are undefined as of now but definitely happen.

Bustopher Jones is a British expat who moved to the US with his housekeeper (and requited crush) Jennyanydots, in a misguided attempt to straighten out his godchildren/wards, Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer. It does not go well, especially when Munk needs to call on the twins' troublemaking abilities to infiltrate Macavity's lair.

Some other things I've worked out, but haven't managed to integrate into the main plot yet:

Jellylorum and Asparagus (Gus Jr) run a struggling off-Broadway theatre started by their father. In between shows, they rent out the stage to Cassandra and Misto, who alternate their acts, and a spare dressing room to Coricopat and Tantomile. The twins, Cass, and Misto all met in the circus, but split off because of mistreatment and nonpayment. Victoria joined Misto's act after failing to find work as a ballet dancer elsewhere, and the two now brand themselves as siblings. The group don't mean to take advantage of the siblings, but attendance is inconsistent, to say the least. Of course, Jelly and Gus Jr would never kick them out — they know their father would loathe to see the building closed even temporarily.

Skimbleshanks is a trolley driver. (I know this entry is comically short compared to the last one, but I imagine he'd just pop up occasionally throughout the story. Sometimes simpler is better.)

I really want to fit Algernonny (my OC) in here somewhere, but I haven't settled on anything yet. Maybe he drives a bookmobile??

Olivetti (my other OC) is a bit easier to place, since he'd be a reporter, but I'm not sure what effect he'd have on the story at large.

Some relationships (familial, platonic, and romantic) I want to emphasize:

None of Munk/Tugger/Mac are related, nor are any of them directly related to Old Deut. In my eyes, Macavity has always worked better as an entity lurking in the shadows than someone who is well-known and emotionally tied to the other characters.

Re: the Smitten Kitten bunch, I haven't untangled who I want them and Munk to end up with (or maybe they just all end up together?). There will definitely be some one-sided Platugger flirting because I can. (Algie/Alonzo is also a done deal, but that doesn't mean Alonzo doesn't get to participate here too.)

I haven't decided whether I go the Victeazer or Tantoteazer route yet. I'm leaning towards Mistojerrie though as a new thing for me.

Asparagus and Skimbleshanks will end up being a thing, because I can't get enough of them two <3

I haven't decided if I want Jenny to be Plato (etc.)'s mom. It would be easier to tie that household into the main goings-on that way, but also (if you couldn't tell) I'm trying to improvise on a lot of these characters and come up with new relations -- at least for the ones for whom I don't already have a ship I'm attached to.\

im a big fan of monochromatic siblings like most people are, i think theyre cute and the dynamics between them r definitely fun 2 me i think we are lacking in victoria and alonzo content however

i always hc bustopher as their uncle, and their parents just not being in the picture. nothing necessarily tragic theyre cats i def think there’d be a different standard of familial norms

some other characters i enjoy as family are rumple and jerrie as twins, along w coricopat and tantomile being another set of twins, i like asparagus jr and jellylorum being gus’ kids, and i also enjoy the deut brothers (macavity, munkustrap, and tugger)

i do think a lot of my opinions vary on production, like i dont see mungojerrie and rumple as siblings in tecklenberg and more of just partners in crime (but not romantic either theyre just two freaks that get along and cause problems), and honestly tugger and munkustrap being related switches for me too depending on the show

i also like the idea jennyanydots and mistoffelees are related in some productions (cough cough the one where they have a tap dance battle) but like i said it varies

other than that i dont actually have tooooo many family headcanons i think, i like to imagine these cats found each other more or less and just. stuck together. i think their relationships with one another feel warmer when they dont really have familial ties keeping them together yk, like they all love each other and want to be around one another bcuz of it

Hi! Yes I have a few ocs, I just never really got to talking about them besides one, partially cuz I'm not that much of an oc person and usually I don't focus that much on them

That being said I have a few Warsaw ones, 2 not Warsaw specific and a few human au only ones

The Warsaw ones are Marlene, Damian and Antoni, they're part of the W Deuteronomy family

Marlene is Nestor's (old D's) latest partner and she's Victor's mother and stepmother to his other sons. I talked a bit about her and drew her earlier this year

Damian is Nestor's oldest son, he used to be the head protector before Munkustrap but had to step down in favour of his second, Jellylorum, because he got seriously ill a little after Macavity left. Now he still fulfills some protector duties but leaves the leading to his younger brother. His mate is Kocik Le Miau and together they got one son, Quaxo. As for his looks he's more or less Damian Aleksander's Munk

Antoni is Nestor's second oldest, he's close with Alonzo and has had the biggest crush on him ever since they were kittens. He's one of Gus' favourites cuz he followed in his footsteps and is also an actor, but stars mostly in shows and commercials

(In cat aus I usually have Damian and Antoni as half brothers but in human aus they are full brothers)

The first not Warsaw oc is Rumi, he's Macavity's right paw when it comes to getting shit done. He used to be friends with W Bomba and was friendly with Jellicle Demeter, enough to buy her some time when she left Mac with Jemima and J Bomba

And the second is Beatrice (in some human aus I call her Karin), she's the younger sister to W and J Bustophers and is the mother to Misto and Victoria. She is alive but not in the picture as her humans have moved out of London and took her with them

My human ocs are from my magic au, they are all loosely inspired by some version of Misto and are:

Catarina - loosely inspired by Opera Populaire Misto, she's a witch born in 4th century Rome, she's an older lady kinda tired of everyone's bullshit and is the creator of the spell that allows for newly magical members of the family to easily find the closest magical family member. Instead of a wand she uses a handheld fan, a remnant of the years and years she's spent in Florence. She is slowly going blind and has a bit of a hard time adjusting

Timothy - loosely inspired by Timothy Scott's Misto, born in 12th century England. Creator of many enchanted objects still used by many family members. He was Feliks' first teacher and they were really close with people sometimes mistaking them for brothers. He died in a freak accident in late 19th century

Dimitri - loosely inspired by Gothenburg and Moscow Mistos, born in early 19th century Russia. He's directly related to Feliks but because of a bit of a family feud caused by politics Dimitri's first teacher was instead Catarina. He has a gift of seeing the future that comes with an unfortunate side effect of chronic migraines and slight memory loss

Gianmarco - loosely inspired by Il Sistina Misto, I don't have much about him yet besides that he's born in 20th century, he's Italian-American that moved back to Europe and is giving Catarina and Dimitri a bit of a headache due to his sudden appearance and his place in the family tree

hi!! i'd love to ramble about my celestial au some more!, it'll be a bit disjointed/dot pointed but here it goes

so in this au/non rep they're all sort of already dead? if that makes sense, they're all souls in sort of purgatory and the heavyside layer is reincarnation/being able to move on from purgatory, so it takes the ideas of reincarnation in the show much more literally

i definitely imagine a lunar eclipse happening during macavity the mystery cat, especially bc deut is the moon so its like the sun stealing the moon thing going on

in my au there is a sort of one sided Demecavity going on with macavity being absolutely whipped/obsessed with demeter while she couldnt care less

also just like in my misto is macavity's apprentice au (rip that fanfic i accidentally deleted the planning doc 😭) plato is deme and mac's son bc i really like that hc (other families are deuteronomy brothers, monochromatic siblings and also etcetera and electra are sisters)

my favourite group of designs are the Deuteronomy family, with them each being based off a different time of day (munk = early morning, tugger = sunset, mac = midday, old deut = midnight/the moon himself)

for ships in this au? the two set in stone ones are tuggoffelees and jennyxbustopher with probably platoria being a maybe third

also for growltiger i renamed the saimese to Zolarians bc 1) I hate the saimese name its 😬 2) hehe rtc reference

thinking about how in a slightly altered version of the human AU, Macavity gets his shit together much faster, and ends up with a steady partner and a new kid, and a few years down the road, he goes back to the old neighborhood with his family, and the kids see him acting like the perfect dad, and it's like the scene in how i met your mother except it's Hades standing across from him in Tugger and Mistoffelees' kitchen while Macavity's partner and kid are outside and he's being good at controlling his emotions until Macavity says something about why Hades is being so closed off, or asking Hades what's wrong, and he just explodes and screams "because if you were going to be some lame suburban dad, why couldn't you have been that for me?!"

For the WIP ask game! The grief story (number six I think?)

It sounds so interesting but please don’t hurt me too bad (´∀｀*)

Luckily that one is actually not terribly sad at all. It takes place in a kind of steampunk-y au in which society revolves around non-conventional family units referred to as colonies- a group of 10-30ish mostly non-related cats who all live together in large estates. Cats who do not have colonies or are kicked out of them are referred to as 'castaways', and are usually at the fringes of society. The fic is about the jellicles as a colony. When Misto and Tugger were young, a series of Very Bad events occurred, after which Macavity had been cast from the colony (with vehemence), Tugger had been grievously injured, and the jellicles (wrongly) came to the conclusion that a missing young Misto had been tragically murdered by Macavity. The reality was, however, that Macavity has simply stolen Misto away, and convinced him that the two of them were cast out. Misto grew up as a castaway, raised solely by Macavity, until one day while traveling, Munkustrap just happened upon the theater Misto worked at, and found him there. Delighted that the kitten they all mourned for a decade had actually been alive this whole time, he dragged Misto back home. But Misto had been changed by an adolescence under Macavity's eye, and Tugger never really got over the abrupt loss of his childhood best friend, so it takes them a while to figure things out. Man that summary was long. Anyways heres the snippet:

When he finds the mettle to look up he finds Tugger staring at him again, for what has to be the third or fourth time now, and Misto can’t help but let an awkward little laugh escape from between his lips, tenderly amused and a little intimidated both.

Tugger smiles when Misto laughs, but his brows rise too. “What?” he asks.

“I just— I just— sorry, I just feel like every time I look at you you’re staring at me.”

“Sorry,” Tugger says, but his gaze doesn’t budge.

“Am I that interesting?” Misto asks, mostly joking.

“Terribly,” Tugger responds with that same near-seriousness. “I remember Jenny and Dad used to say you’d end up short, but all this time I never imagined you quite so…”

He lifts a hand roughly level with Misto’s head, smile lifting at the corners; Misto rolls his eyes, fondness creeping up his throat. So much like the annoying little kitten he remembers.

But something about that statement quirks at him. Before he can truly wonder if it’s a good idea to ask, Misto finds his mouth already forming the words. “You imagined me? As… like as an adult?”

Tugger’s brows pinch together, high on his forehead. “Yeah,” he admits after a long while, in a voice that scrapes Misto’s ears. “Pretty much all the time. I didn’t know…” He clears his throat and looks down at the blanket. “It’s just kind of surreal.”

there’s definitely several ideas that have been rattling around in my brain for ages (including continuations for the gc fic lmao)

I suppose the biggest thing I’ve never posted on tumblr (that I recall anyway? I don’t think I ever mentioned it on here but ik I did in mistocord) was the nobility/whodunnit au, which was my human murder mystery au set kinda late 1800s/early 1900s in england. I put sooooo much effort and thought into it and recently it’s been creeping back into my brain but. this is really embarrassing LMAO but I can’t remember what the motive of the murderer was 💀 I never wrote it down!! I assumed I’d remember something important as that but apparently not lol. but! I have been brainstorming a new one lately and I was recently looking back through my (extensive) notes on it so that’s. something that might come back eventually? maybe? Idk but it was SO much fun.

Quick recap of the general overview: Silvanus Deuteronomy, wealthy Duke and Certified Bastard(tm) hosts an annual Ball known as, (here it comes), the Jellicle Ball! The Duke is found dead in his study on the evening of the Ball and every guest is a suspect with motive (oOoOoOoOo~). Whodunnit? His son Munkustrap, set to inherit the title and estate? Munkustrap’s wife, Lady Demeter? Or perhaps the Duke’s other son, the rebellious Rum Tum Tugger? It was well known that they had a troubled relationship… Nobody could suspect his daughter Jemima, could they? But it turns out Jemima knows more about the goings-on in the family than her brothers expected…

Perhaps it was Victoria, the daughter of his cousin who’s lived with them for several years? Silvanus recently found out about her forbidden relationship with a servant of the house, Mungojerrie…

Speaking of servants, more than one of them have a motive, too. Between blackmail, illegitimate children and debts, a few of them would have reason to take a blade to the Duke’s throat. And what’s more, as the Manor House is snowed in during a storm the night of the murder, with no help to be reached other than the inexperienced, vivacious detective and her assistant already in attendance at the Ball, it comes out that there are motives for murder among the numerous high profile guests. The Lords and Ladies of the country are placed under scrutiny by the sharp-minded Trudicat and her slightly bumbling assistant Attionsoles (he’s a himbo there’s no other way of putting it)

What’s more, it turns out that Deuteronomy’s old political nemesis, Lord Macavity has planted spies under his very roof… and that he has a dark and dangerous obsession with a certain daughter-in-law of Silvanus’s…. (Someone also sent a pair of assassins on the night of the ball… apparently several people wanted the Duke of Jellicle dead.)

featuring many, MANY ocs, a lot of creative license and an unrealistic (but very, very fun) amount of drama. brought to you by my love of period pieces (read:downton abbey) and murder mysteries (read: I have consumed way too many murder books and shows)

1940S CATS HUMAN AU??? Pls say more right now! Mechanic is such a Plato job I love it!

So I have, like, the skeleton concerning this AU, but I have recently been really into human!AUs that are closer to the time period that the original poems were written. I'm afraid I don't have a *lot* but the idea is vaguely shaped in my head.

Basically, I really only have thoughts regarding Macavity's circle, and it's not quite a *happy* one persay (also takes a lot of liberties by playing it fast and loose with historical accuracy): not exactly full blown organized mob, but skirting the edges. Demeter, a former entertainer, being a "mob wife" who got in her position by biting off just a bit more than she could chew and paying the price for it; Alonzo having long standing ties since he was a dumber and more desperate young kid who is trapped where he is and sees no real way out of it, jumps from blue collar job to blue collar job after (bonus: he's in love with the boss's wife which is extra funTM for him); Plato is Macavity's son from a previous marriage and got most of his jobs due to Alonzo's good graces of trying to keep him away from everything. Bombalurina was an artist (a singer, dancer and photographer) now informant who used to have a *thing* with Macavity, but ended up marrying another guy in his circle (who died at some point) to keep her tabs open and keep close after he married Demeter. Jerrie and Teazer are underlings and petty thieves (actually extremely brilliant ones who have gotten away with entite safes) who, again, are just on the fringes and not quite aware of the level of severity they're involved in (Teazer moreso than Jerrie), but are nonetheless in initiation periods. Etc. Etc.

Victoria in my mind is the daughter of a billionaire (likely very prestigious familial name, generational wealth, managed through the Great Depression pretty much unscathed); think like debutante level of wealth. She plays the piano and is just coming into her own in the world.

Whats the argument between munk and misto?

The argument was really between Munk and Tugger, it was just about Misto.

So Munk, Tugger, and Macavity are siblings in this AU, but Mac drifted apart from the family some time ago due to his quest for power and pursuit of gaining access to as much magic as he could. Losing Macavity lead to Munk being extremely wary of magic in general, blaming it for warping his brother, and somewhat believing that it would warp anyone who was exposed to it.

So, of course, when he discovered that Tugger’s long term boyfriend was a Warlock, he was not happy. And when he implied to Tugger that Misto was going to corrupt him, Tugger was even less happy. So it lead to a pretty bad argument, and Tugger cutting communication with him ‘until he stopped being a bigoted asshole’.

I should clarify, Munk and Dem both knew that Jemima’s true parentage included a demon, Munk was just desperately hoping she would never manifest the magic that usually comes with that.

What are your favorite headcanons regarding human AU's?

Also, if you could make any relationship (platonic, familial, romantic etc.) that isn't already canon canon, what would it be?

OOOOOh okay. So ethnicity wise: I usually make Old Deut black, a la Ken Page. Munk is full black, Tugger is mixed race. I actually tend to not make Macavity a family member in human aus? It’s just been easier for my plots. I usually make Misto (and Victoria) asian, usually Korean. Some face claims:

Misto has a suncatcher collection, the prisimic ones. His apartment is covered in rainbows. Tugger collects vinyls and other rock music paraphernalia. He has an Extra Large super king bed, big enough for like six people. Munk goes into Law for several years before becoming a drama teacher.
