Just when Munkustrap has trapdoor!Macavity at excellent nose-kicking height...
... a kitten jumps on his back. Isn't it always the way. Victoria, please be brave somewhere else.
Shiki production, Nagoya 20/7/2000. Kyoko Sato as Victoria, Shoichi Fukui as Munkustrap, and Macavity... I have no idea about the actor.
He's presumably not the actual Macavity actor, since that's a decoy and the real one will reappear at the back of the stage in a few seconds. My best guess, judging by which boys are visibly onstage during the Macavity fight (and which others are offstage but very unlikely to be Mac decoys, such as Misto) is that the two Mac decoys who pop up in front of and beside the stage are played by the actors of Skimble and Gus. I suppose there would be a pleasing symmetry if one of them was the Deut actor though! (And if it was Tugger that would just entertain me far too much.)

I am aware Oasis has no swings, so they have to do stuff like this, but having the Grizabella performer be the Macavity decoy is SO funny to me in ways I can't explain

Threat Level
(Cesare the henchcat’s getting a brief turn in the spotlight for @bombawife‘s OC week! Trigger warning for violence and blood ahead.)
Right off the top of his head, Alonzo could think of at least twenty different ways he could have died since he was a kitten. Wandering the streets too malnourished and frail to stand without stumbling. Having his ribs crushed by cars. Squashed beneath construction ladders. Territorial alley cats. Macavity’s claws. Macavity’s teeth. Macavity sending henchcats twice his size to “keep an eye” on him. All the most recent occasions were Macavity’s doing.
And getting his throat ripped out by his brown-nosing little lackey… this was not allowed to be how he died.
Snarling at the top of his voice, he bent his shoulder toward the corner wall and slammed against it, making Cesare on his back take the brunt of the impact. Thud–thud–thud! Cesare let out a yowl with each slam and attempted to hold on tighter by clawing at his neck from the front. But with one final thud! that sent Alonzo’s teeth clattering, Cesare finally let go. Before he could slide too far down the wall, Alonzo turned over his aching shoulder and sliced his claws across Cesare’s muzzle. Blood dripped across a harlequin face and golden paw as the two faced each other, gasping for breath… Alonzo sorely tempted to put the bastard out of his misery. Payback for all the years wasted in that hellhole. For Demeter, for Jemima, for Bomba, for all of them.
Then Cesare smiled. The same slimy, self-congratulatory smile he knew Alonzo hated so much, made even worse through bloodied teeth. “It won’t make a difference,” he muttered, head dropped to his chest, voice muffled. “You’re more than welcome to kill me… it won’t change a damn thing.”
He was baiting him. Alonzo knew he was baiting him. And damn him, he still couldn’t leave it alone… grabbing fistfulls of Cesare’s fur, he yanked him upright until they were nose to nose. “What is Macavity planning? Tell me, and I might make it quick.”
Cesare actually laughed. “I’m not at liberty to tell some–”
Another slash across the face shut him up. So did a set of claws under his chin. “Tell me.”
“Why? You won’t be able to stop him.” There was a derangement in Cesare’s eyes that Alonzo had never seen before–that he would never admit frightened him. “By the end of the night, there won’t be just one of you sent up to die. He’ll be making that choice for you. One by one by one.”
Alonzo’s head spun–Macavity was coming to the Jellicle Ball? He couldn’t tell if that was brave or stupid… or if it was simply a matter of catching as many cats in his crossfire as possible. Either way–”There’s nine of us and one of him. He won’t get very far.”
“Oh, come on now, I know you’re not that stupid. You know very well how many of him there are.” Cesare laughed again, and Alonzo’s blood ran cold to remember. The hulking, faceless cats Macavity used as his decoys. No one knew their names, no one could even remember seeing them out of shadow–they could have been anyone. They could have been the cat standing next to you, or some spirit or demon Macavity had conjured for his own purposes. But no matter how much the question burned on your tongue, you knew better than to ask. You didn’t want to know. If the whispers were to be believed, there was too great a chance Macavity might take your face and replace it with his own.
“Though really,” Cesare went on, “he only needs three. One for you lot”--he ticked off one claw–”one for the old fool”--another claw–”and one”--the third he slid along Alonzo’s chin–”for his sweet little Goldie–”
What happened next, Alonzo couldn’t explain. He must have blacked out for a moment. One second, there was Cesare; the next, there was a blinding pain in his forehead and Cesare on the ground. More blood seeping from his own forehead, body sprawled in a heap. Still breathing shallowly. Damn shame, he thought distantly, like someone else’s voice echoing in his head… and he had to shake out his ears to make sure it wasn’t.
“Alonzo!” Another voice–Bomba’s as she came bounding down the wall to meet him. “I heard a voice–was it–?”
“Yeah. Yeah, it was.” But he didn’t want to waste any more words on Cesare. “We have to get back to the Junkyard. Macavity’s planning on crashing the Ball.”
Bomba quirked an eyebrow and nodded down at the prone henchcat. “Did he tell you that?”
“This wasn’t a taunt, Bomba–this was serious. He’s coming after Old Deuteronomy.” He swallowed past the sudden bile in his throat. “And Demeter, too.”
There was a terrible moment where Bomba’s face became a mask of terror, but it soon steeled into a look of grim resolve, tail lashing behind her as she prepared to run again. “Well, we’ve still got time if we hurry.”
Alonzo didn’t need to be told twice. And he made sure to kick some dirt over Cesare for good measure on his way.

I can dig up gifs anyway!
Or rather, photos and videos.
Look, there he is being all benevolent behind Skimble and (patchless) Alonzo.
Here's a breakdown of Bryn, Ken, and Richard in the Macavity decoys / fake Deut scene in the 1998 film.
Here's his page on the wiki.
Here's a dress rehearsal from 1994 where he's actually Macavity, not the decoy:
youtube
And here's the same dress rehearsal of Jellicle Songs, with him as Admetus:
youtube
Interestingly, I am curious as to why they bothered to use Richard in this sequence instead of whichever cast member would usually have been fake Macavity at this point in the London tradition. You can see, eg, Fergus being one of the minions, Bryn doesn't return until it's plausible for Admetus to be back onstage after redoing his makeup post-Macavity, and M&R (especially Drew) are visibly out of breath in the background for the first half of the Deut Duet'. So clearly they were sticking to normal tracks for the most part despite the apparent freedom given to them by not filming in real time.
Richard Armitage being a graceful swan while rehearsing for ‘CATS The Musical’ (x)
Note: He’s wearing a blue top and has a ponytail. If you think this isn’t the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen, you’re wrong.

The Last Macavity Post For Now I Swear
So, Macavity does his thing, kidnaps Old Deuteronomy, Demeter and Bombalurina do a musical number, and then he comes back. He appears as himself, but Macavity Disguised as Old Deuteronomy can be seen in the same place and time, so that’s either magic or an elaborate use of decoys.
I’m pointing this out because Jacob Brent said that Macavity, this version anyway, isn’t actually magic, but between this and the hypnosis...how the hell else is he pulling this off?
Anyway, Demeter is the only one who can tell that something’s off here. The usual psychics and other cats who could more easily recognize him are just too happy to see Old Deuteronomy again to pay attention.
Bombalurina and Jenny both notice that Demeter is acting weird.
Jenny actually takes a closer look at Old Deuteronomy, trusting Demeter’s judgement.
Etcetera also notices that something is going on and hisses again. Though she doesn’t know it, this is the third time she’s hissed at Macavity.
Once Macavity is exposed, he just runs around and scares everyone for a bit. Mungojerrie looks ready to kill him even now and Pouncival’s following his lead.
So, Macavity scares everyone, Munkustrap’s back in The Stance, and...wait. Is that Etcetera? Macavity is attacking Etcetera. Considering everything else he’s apparently done, seeing him lash out at a kitten shouldn’t be that shocking, but it is.
Etcetera’s in mid-tumble from behind shoved back when Electra approaches from the other side. Electra, I know you probably want to avenge your bestie, but maybe you shouldn’t-
And Electra goes down too. Macavity has attacked two children for basically no reason other than to scare everyone.
This is around the time that Macavity goes after Demeter, which I think was his original goal, so I don’t know what the rest of this is about. Munkustrap intervenes and there’s a lot of fighting. Munkustrap’s knocked out, Alonzo’s thrown to the floor, and Mungojerrie takes over.
Cassandra is also ready on the other side.
Mungojerrie goes down in one hit, because I don’t think he’s gotten into many fights before. Pouncival, is ready to take over, not scared off by Macavity attacking Etcetera and Electra, on top of all the actual fighting.
And Alonzo’s getting up! He’s fine! No need for the kitten to risk his life.
Finally, I got a better picture of the cats before the power goes out. We can see Skimble still trying to climb up to where Macavity is, while Demeter, Bombalurina, and Cassandra are all also nearby. Between Bomba and Cassandra are two that I can’t quite make out.
But, in the right hand corner, Etcetera is back. She recovered and went almost straight back into the action. I nominate her as a potential future protector of the tribe, because she has all the Heroic Resolve needed for the job.

Cats Antwerp - 30th March 2017
Ahhhh OK. So, the good bits are very very good indeed! This show tho. For a start, it's not so much a theatre as a building site, that will hopefully soon become a concert hall. Literally, coils of electrical cable on the stairs front of house. And backstage is worse -the place is full of construction dust. It's literally pulling the cast out sick, everyone's coughing and losing their voices. Disastrous. Also they can't use the fly tower tonight, so no Misto rope, plan B heaviside layer. Now I might be imagining things but I think Rumpleteazer WAS in jellicle songs, but she certainly wasn't in the rest of the opening numbers. But mungo and jemima covered by announcing tugger, which worked nicely having various kittens excited to see him. By the time we actually got to mungo and Rumpleteazer, she turned up, and from then on it was all fine. Dane was mungo, Alice Cornwall was Rumpleteazer. Tugger though! This was Nathan Johnson covering for Pepé Munoz, and he was so fluffy and pretty! Slight air of swing about him, not 100% owning the role, but I was more than happy. Jennyanydots - Joanne Lee Martin, loved her bouncy energy! They've had a knack of finding good Gumbie Cats recently, and she's not letting anyone down. Also she has new costumes, her house coat is plush and round, and her tap is so rich and fringes! Still find the new tap painfully dull. Grizabella- ohhhh boy the new costume is not flattering. Jo Ampil is not particularly tall, but that costume is so far from anything remotely glamorous on her. Not kind. Possibly that distracted me, but I didn't connect with her grizabella the way I have done in the past. Bustopher has a red flower again! Jenny's gorgeous in this number, and also I had been afraid of new material in there, fortunately not. Munkus picked up bill in a manner I find very familiar of removing the naughty cat from where he's not meant to be and putting him in place! Old Deuteronomy-the number gave me a chance to really appreciate having tugger back! As for John Ellis, I think the working conditions were really getting to his voice, he was not on top form at all. Also, his young deut top is all lovely and plush velour, but its a good 4" too long and the hem is on a pale flat line, it needs a trim to blend into the trousers too. OK, then when we should have got to Pekes and Pollicles is when things started going wrong. we got right up to the start of "of the awful battle...." when we get a macavity crash, then the weird and tonally clashing bit of loosely paraphrased macavity. Didn't seem necessary. Then "jellicle cats come back, come all" to start the jellicle ball. the energy was wrong for the intro but then the show was all over the place. The ball itself was amazing, all pulled together and again, tugger back was so good! Front of house was so unorganised too, no one controlling people flow at the interval getting up onstage with old Deuteronomy. And audience so slow to come back. Moments of happiness- vocal difficulties but to be fair, under the circumstances, forgivable. Gus. Things got interesting. OK Charlotte Scott as jelly is gorgeous. Tony magill as Gus, got a proper wig back! Not a particularly frail Gus. Had whole ensemble playing about much longer, no costume changes. Pekes and Pollicles. On one hand, pretty fun, on the other, kills Gus. Literally kills any emotional pull of the character. Do not care about him. Not sure why he needed to go off stage to don his trash robe. Nobody wins from this change around apart from the running order making the show Slightly shorter. I was enjoying it as it was going on but the absolute lack of tragedy about his character means I don't care. He's an actor in his 40s not as active as he used to be, not in his 80s frail and ancient. I didn't hate the arrangement, didn't even miss Growltiger, but having a hale and lively Gus, with no reprise of his song, just finish his number and leave, absolute disaster. Skimbleshanks! Always reliable to lift the the mood! Joe Henry was covering, and fun, great ensemble number. Tugger around more than usual. Because - possibly just due to this theatre- only one decoy macavity. Macavity song - Agnes pure as Demeter was skittish and twitchy, the only possible criticism was the she was mumbling her lyrics. most of the audience may not be native English speakers but you still need to enunciate! Charlie Johnson as bomba was gorgeous, all slinky and smokey, lovely moments of catting about through the show too with washing and combing her hair... I don't know if there's new orchestrations, band problems, sound levels or what, but the sound and timing on macavity fight was all off, especially ending up with alonzo standing around waiting his turn. They all fought through, and the throws were magnificent, wonderfully scary macavity. Misto! Love! Shiny and sparkly! I lost count, 29 or 30 spins, long time since I've seen Misto manage that. And he's so bright and cute. And the new jacket has subtly colour changing lights, controlled from the lighting board, and he's covered in AB crystals so all the sparkly rainbows. To the end of the show - again, no flying, vocal difficulties for old Deuteronomy, disconnect from grizabella, wonderful character moments in the ensemble. Mungo and Rumpleteazer touching hands mirroring grizabella and vic! Alonzo and Cassandra beautiful elegant sync, as much as the twins. Sophia mcavoy is a gorgeous Vic, just everything you want. Grace swaby as jemima, hit every Mark, would likely shine more in a show with fewer problems, everyone else rightly adores enric marimon and Aaron hunt as carby and bill. Jak anderson beautiful Admetus, scary mac. Ohhhh, extra music for grizabella has been cut, phew. So there's a really solid cast, rockstar tugger, and new material that fails so hard. And Gus is nerfed. But tugger is back!

Under the Jellicle Dawn
Chapter five
Demeter's mouth hung open in shock, the four other queens looked scandalized, Skimble and Munkustrap sputtered, Victor snickered, Old Deuteronomy coughed, and Tugger started laughing hysterically.
"Qu-Quaxo!" Jenny said trying to scold him.
"By the way Jenny, I've meaning to ask you, how's the affair with my Uncle coming along?" The tuxedo cat asked not caring about being nice and polite anymore, he was too tired to think straight and if Demeter could say untrue things about his mother then could do the same about hers!
"Now see here," Skimbles began.
"Don't you tell me to see here! After the horrible thing you've done! You've doomed the tribe to extreme torture for years to come!" Mistoffelees yelled.
"I can explain!" Skimbles began. "The Red Caboose it's…"
"Quaxo, what are you saying?" Jenny asked worriedly.
"It was you Skimbles, who put together that make shift bagpipes and taught Tugger how to play them ensuring we'll all be forced to listen to his horrible playing anytime the mood strikes him or when one of his love sick fans asked him too! And don't you dare deny it Sir!" Mistoffelees yelled pointing at him and panting heavily.
The other cats save Tugger gasp in shock.
"Skimbleshanks!" Old Deuteronomy said staggered back slightly and placing his paw over his heart. "Is that true?"
"It-It-It is and I'm so ashamed!" The Railway cat cried.
"Skimbles, how could you?" Munkustrap cried.
"It seemed like a good idea at the time! I didn't know the lad would so bad at it!"
"Oh come on!" Tugger said. "My playing was not bad! You all just have tin ears!" Before he could say anything else he noticed that Mistoffelees was still panting heavily. "Misto?" He said worriedly.
"I can't…seem to…catch my breath," He said. Tugger exchanged worried glances with his father and several of the others.
Mistoffelees had once explained to him the price of magic had on his body. His magic required a lot of energy and if he used up his energy after doing magic and didn't replenish it like sleeping or eating then his magic would feed off his body in order to sustain it self. Magic cares not for its wielder nor what it is used for, it only cares to exist and if has to destroy its wielder do so, it will.
Tugger didn't quite understand what Mistoffelees meant at the time. Only thinking that the magical was trying to impress and scare him, which he did. The last time something like this had happen Mistoffelees had gone to sleep right away only getting up to take in nourishment and to relieve himself and then go back to sleep not acknowledging anyone. Tugger had never been so worried in all his life, but after a day Mistoffelees had gone back to normal, but this time he wasn't getting the rest he needed.
"It's the…morning fog," Mistoffelees panted.
Tugger frowned wrapped his arms around his mate's waist and pulled them both the ground thinking not having to stand might just help a little and remembering hearing a human something bearing closer to the ground made breathing easier.
"I'm fine…I just need a moment," Mistoffelees said leaning his head back. Tugger caressed the side of his mate's face while sending his father a pleading look begging him to do something.
Munkustrap knelt down beside them feeling guilty and worried for his friend. Tugger had told him that Mr. Mistoffelees needed his rest, but he wouldn't listion, no he had to tell them about what Demeter thought. Of course Mr. Mistoffelees want to defend his mother and of course Demeter wouldn't believe him. Munkustrap wondered what had given him idea that she would if Mr. Mistoffelees talked to her.
He couldn't blame Demeter entirely Macavity had messed with her head made her doubt herself, lied to her, had her betray those closest to her and had those closeted to her betray her. When she and Bombalurina had returned to the tribe Demeter couldn't even be called a ghost of her former self. She hadn't always been so paranoid and frighten half the time, she had once been carefree and fun loving.
But that had been before Macavity showed his true colors, when he and Tugger had just viewed him as their cool older brother, when there had been more cats in the tribe before they had been killed in the attempted take over or as the Macavity war some called it. Before Demeter got her family name.
Demeter had, had crush on Macavity when she had been a kitten, though the future Hidden Paw never gave her much notice only seeing her as a silly little kitten that was friends with his little brothers. Macavity at the time only showed interest in Cassandra and Tantomile, but the two young queens shied away from him. The verbal abuse from him to her had started early when she had boldly asked him why he preferred the two queens to her. She had been much like how Etcetera acted around Tugger back then.
Macavity heartlessly explained his preference. Cassandra was a purebred; Demeter couldn't even be called a half-bred. Cassandra had grace and poise, she was elegant and beautiful all things Demeter was not. And Tantomile while it was true she was not a breed, she was mature, elegant, and otherworldly again all things Demeter was not. Then he told her that in all truth she was nothing, but a common little stray was beneath his notice and that the only reason he ever gave her any brief attention was because his father seemed to have a bit of affection for hers. Demeter ran away crying.
Both Munkustrap and Rum Tum Tugger had overheard. It was the first time they had witness they're brother's cruelty. They confronted him of course. How could be so mean to their friend? Macavity smiled at them the way a loving older brother smiles at his younger siblings. He told them he was being cruel to be kind. She was too young for him at present and he didn't want to give her any false hope because by the time she was old enough for him, well he could be mated with kittens by then and she would have wasted her youth pining for him. Besides she should be spending time with kittens her own age it was for the best really. They had to believe him and they did he was their big brother he could do no real wrong. He smiled again and asked his little brothers if they wanted to play a game of cards with him? They did, both claiming this time they would beat him. What innocent fools they had been.
Demeter had decided to prove Macavity wrong about her; she'd show him a thing or two. She got herself adopted by a human family getting the name Demeter. She would no longer called by her particular name. Macavity complemented her on her new name. It was the name of a Goddess. Demeter then began to practice her airs and graces more to prove she could be if not more graceful then Cassandra and Tantomile put together. When she reached her 'teenaged-hood' Demeter was going to show Macavity what he was missing! She wasn't going to fawn over him anymore she'd make him want her all right, but she would reject him, at least that had been the plan. She went on dates with lot of toms back then none of them were right though until she went out with Alonzo with him he was almost right. They started courting; it was almost love at least on her part and they would have been mates had it not been for Macavity.
They had been the leads for the ceremonial mating dance. She was his once again and this time he would not reject her. It was a bitter brake up between her and Alonzo. He was hurt and angry words were said and Alonzo and Macavity often came to blows with Macavity winning. Munkustrap and Tugger were both in a rock and a hard place Macavity was their brother, but Alonzo was their friend. It was that event that started Tugger's dislike of Demeter. It was only after that Macavity and Demeter become mates did the physical abuse start. Little things at first a light scratch here and there she could play that off by saying she met unfriendly ally cat. But the abuse soon become worse and Demeter never would admit that it was Macavity who was hurting her. If anyone so much as tried to suggest that Macavity was anything less then an ideal mate Demeter would fly into a rage defanding her mate's character! To her Macavity was a God. Was it love, pride, fear that made her so devoted to him, or something more sinister? No one could say for sure.
Things took a change when Demeter became pregnant. For those two months Macavity treated Demeter as if she were a Goddess and things seemed to be going well for them. It was a month after the kittens were born when the betrayal happened. Demeter came running to the clearing claiming that she couldn't find her kits. They all stopped what they were doing to help look; a junkyard could be a dangerous place for two small kittens. They were the perfect decoys, no cat notice when Macavity cohorts of rats and stray cats crept in until they were all surrounded and caught. Macavity's plan seemed to be flawless except for one thing his brothers would not join him. He took for granted that they would, he could always get them to do what he wanted.
But not this time, their love they had for their father thankfully proved to strong then the persuasive words of their usurping brother. Munkustrap rallied the other cats to fight for their freedom and their true leader; he was able to get Tugger out of junkyard to find their father and get more help. For once The Rum Tum Tugger listened to Munkustrap's order to the letter. It was a long and bloody battle Macavity did not hold back on using his powers and the gray tabby could only pry to the Everlasting Cat that help would come soon. And it did Tugger along with their father, Bustopher Jones, and more cats that Munkustrap had ever seen in his life came to help. Bustopher Jones took over giving out orders something Munkustrap was grateful for while he had the fighting spirit it was the older cat that had the experience, Old Deuteronomy went to comfort the injured and dying and Tugger was sent to help guard kittens and queens who were unable to fight. The Jellicle's won their war, but not without heavy loses on both sides, toms, queens, and even kittens had lost their lives.
Macavity had exhausted his powers and was unable escape and his fellow cohorts were brought to Old Deuteronomy to face judgment and punishment. Old Deuteronomy asked his oldest son why he had done this. Power was the simple answer; ruling over the Jellicles would improve his criminal empire. Humans were smart, but cats were smarter. He had been committing crimes that had Scotland Yard scratching their heads. With enough cats he could take over the criminal underground, London, the world! Didn't they see that him leading them cats would no longer have to depend on the humans the humans would depend on and be at the mercy of the cats.
The tribe and their allies looked at the fiend in feline shape in horror! His genius had turned to madness! And what was worse Demeter defended him! She believed in what he said was his vision. She blamed Munkustrap and Rum Tum Tugger for the bloodshed and lose of life. They had started this war by fighting against Macavity's will. She was no longer the Demeter the tribe once knew. Her personality gone she didn't even grieve for her friends who had died! Macavity had taken control of her very soul and all that she ever was all that she could have been was gone, her love for Macavity had consumed her to the point of no return.
Old Deuteronomy could not condemn his eldest son and his followers to death there had been too much lose of life already. Banishment instead was the punishment Demeter didn't even bat eye at thought of never seeing her family again. All she needed was Macavity and her kittens. Bombalurina willing went with them, was it worry for her sister or was it Macavity? She had been strangely absent during the battle.
It took time for the tribe to heal, but they did, kittens were born and taken in, cats who had lost their mates moved on past their grief and found new ones, and Bustopher Jones brought his nephew Quaxo to join the tribe.
A year later Demeter, Bomba, Mungojerrie, and Rumpleteazer returned to the tribe the night of the Jellicle ball. They made their presents known during Tugger's song. Bomba boldly sung 'The Rum Tum Tugger is a curious beast!' Tugger's and the older members of the tribe's reaction to seeing them was not good, but then they learned the reason why they were back. They left Macavity for good, at least Demeter and Bombalurina had. They spoke of the Hidden Paw's cruelty, his depravity. Demeter had finally broken free of his will for Macavity had something unforgivable he had seduced her sister and now she lay pregnant with his kit. Demeter bagged for forgiveness and redemption, Bamba needed her parents, and the twins needed good influences.
The tribe rejected them at first, but then Old Deuteronomy came and learned of their return and sung of forgiveness and Jenny and Skimbies missed their daughters and wanted to know their grand-kits and so they were accepted if not begrudgingly back into the tribe, but they would have to work hard to the prove themselves and they did took nearly a whole year and Munkustrap found himself falling for the last queen he ever imagined; Demeter. They weren't mates yet, but they were thinking about it. And then this years ball happened and now here they were under the dawn trying to convince the yellow queen of Quaxo's true parentage.
