Day 24 - Insectoid⁠ ⁠ ⁠So this is my second attempt at this prompt because I really didn't like how the first one turned out. My initial idea was to do a Mothman inspired character but everything about it was too rigid and boring. I much prefer this attempt inspired by the myth of Arachne.⁠ ⁠ Arachne (Greek for spider) was the daughter of a tradesman. She wasn't connected to nobility nor was she know for her looks. She was, however, famous for her skills in weaving on her loom and people would flock to see her weave her latest tapestries. This gave Arachne a monstrous ego and she claimed that she was a superior weaver to anyone, either mortal or divine.⁠ ⁠ Athena, the goddess of wisdom and crafts (including weaving) heard this boast of Arachne's and decided to teach her a lesson. Disguised as an old woman, Athena challenged Arachne's claims - how dare she say that she was superior to the gods! Arachne just laughed and said that she could beat even Athena the crafter herself. Provoked by this jibe, Athena revealed herself and challenged Arachne to a weaving competition. ⁠ ⁠ Arachne accepted and the stage was set. Crowds gathered round to watch this match. Athena weaved a beautiful tapestry depicting the might and power of the gods. Arachne, however, decided to picture the gods abusing their power, showing them to be petty and vain. Safe to say that this wasn't her wisest decision. Athena could see that Arachne's tapestry was undeniably better than hers but the subversive work and blatant disrespect caused Athena to fly into a rage.
