They are at the bar, Charlie is interested in Mabel though she only notices R. That's all... I know it isn't a lot but I hope you get inspiration and do something better.
Next Week

One more week, and then sheâd go to college. Just one more week before she truly turns her life around. No more drugs, no more dangerous people surrounding her. It wasnât all bad, she met some good people, but more importantly, and outside of that world, she met you. From the corner of her eye, she watched you win a game of darts against some guy she vaguely knew.
Charlie sat down next to her, preventing her from subtly watching you, but the grin on his face prevented her from getting mad at him. He was a good guy, and still in love with her, but she was in a long relationship when she met him, and he just never had the chance. He still tried every now and then, he still thought she was single. She never bothered to correct him. Her relationship was a secret, removed from the world she used to be in, and even now, months after she got out, started fresh, the old habit remained.
âSo, new start next week?â he smiled when she nodded, leaning back so she could once more glance at you while still keeping the conversation going.
âYes, I canât wait to leave,â she truly couldnât wait, but there was a really good reason for the one last week of delay, and she was currently looking at said reason.
âYouâll drop by every now and then, though, right? To say âhiâ and see how the rest of us are doing?â the hopeful look in his eyes stood in contrast with the disappointment etched on the face of another poor sucker who tried to play darts against you. When she met you, she didnât think you were this precise, she saw the muscular physique of a woman she thought spent half her day at the gym. You proved her wrong, as you won a chance to buy her a drink in the same game you were playing now. And you kept proving her wrong, you certainly didnât spend half of your day at the gym, your job just used to be physically demanding, add in some working out and you eventually gained the muscles you currently had.
âWeâll stay in touch Charlie,â she gave him a friendly wink and got up. You just sat down after running out of opponents willing to play, so, Mabel patted Charlie on the shoulder and moved through the crowd toward you.
âHey there, stranger,â you grinned when she picked up the darts.
Mabel grinned, though she was turned away from you. It didnât matter, you knew she was grinning. âSorry to disappoint you, Iâd like a better opponent,â she teased as you joined her.
âYeah?â she could feel you smirking behind her. âHow about we make a bet? I win and you let me buy you a drink?â you suggested, almost mimicking the first time you had this conversation. She found it amusing back then, she still found it amusing.
âIsnât the loser supposed to buy drinks?â she raised an eyebrow, turning slightly to look at you. The few feet of distance between you felt like miles, and it was another reason she wanted to leave this place behind. So, she would no longer have to pretend she wasnât with you. So she could grab your hand, or be with you without pretending it was a coincidence. Once she was no longer surrounded by people that were either once or still somewhat connected to drugs, she would be free to be with you the way she wanted to.
âItâs not the drinks Iâm interested in,â you let her throw first. âItâs your time that Iâm playing for,â there it was, that confident grin, the relaxed posture, the adoration and love in your eyes you failed to conceal. At least you could brush it off as unrequited love and laugh with whoever grew suspicious of your time together.
As expected, you won and got her a drink, and the two of you sat down, close, but not nearly close enough. She still found a few short windows of opportunity to grab onto your hand underneath the table, just to squeeze it and hold it for a few moments, enjoying the warmth before pulling away, resigning to joking touches, light taps or grabbing onto the otherâs shoulder while laughing at a silly joke, as the only ways you could touch one another.
âNext week,â she whispered just for you to hear and you nodded, completely understanding, more understanding than she sometimes felt she deserved, but you always reassured her that she deserved it.
âNext week weâll be sharing a drink at an entirely different bar,â no more playing for her time, no more buying her a drink, no more pretending.
Mabel looked around, still more than capable of noticing if someone was watching her, and when she was certain no one was watching the two of you, she got up, leaned closer and kissed your cheek. âWe wonât be seeing each other again, consider that a goodbye,â she said loud enough for anyone secretly watching to hear. Because as far as the people around the two of you were concerned you were also leaving, only tomorrow, and to the other side of the country, for work. No one would know you were still playing the hiding game and that you were actually going ahead of her to avoid suspicion.
âYeah, goodbye, Mabel,â you grinned as she walked away, knowing full well you just needed to be patient for just a bit longer.
~X~
The new apartment was comfortable, big enough for you and Mabel. You just finished installing window blinds. Mable was going to love them, no more cardboard covering the windows. And then the front doors unlocked, a whole day too soon. You raised an eyebrow and grabbed the screwdriver you were using, you werenât taking any chances, even if you could throw a punch.
âSurprise!â Mabel yelling made you laugh as you placed the screwdriver on the table and went to greet your girlfriend.
âPlease tell me you left your bags in your car,â you said as you walked into the hall and saw her taking her shoes off, luckily without the bags next to her. She looked great, as always, dressed in loose T-shirt and denim shorts and you realized just how much you missed her this past week as you walked over and picked her up, hugging her tightly and lifting her up and she quickly returned the embrace.
Mabel kissed you immediately, her warm, soft lips melting any feeling of loneliness in your heart away. And you kissed her back with just as much passion and longing. âOf course not,â she traced your biceps with the tips of her fingers. âI have to give you a bit of a workout,â you grinned at that. âAnd then, as soon as I stretch a bit on our new bed, weâre going on a walk, hand in hand, got it?â she gave you another quick kiss.
âAbsolutely.â

casual || m.b.
âi know what you tell your friends, it's casual, if it's casual nowâ
__________
parings: mabel black x gn reader
summary: it started off as a casual hook up but was it casual now?
warnings: language, slight angst
words: 900
__________
__________
mabel isnât sure if this ârelationshipâ can still be defined as âcasualâ. Is it casual to flirt in front of your friends? Is it casual to introduce her to your mom? Is it casual to go on a beach trip with the two of you? Is it casual to hangout like normal friends outside of your late night hook-ups? Is it casual when her favorite bra is in your dresser? it was like those no strings attached type thing, but she broke the rule and got attached.
you and mabel had met at a barbecue during the summer, you were the one that served her water or whatever. after that you two hit it off and went back to her place to hook up.
after that that night, you had asked if she sheâd be down with the whole no strings attached thing, and she agreed since she didnât mind it, considering back then you were just a random cute person she hooked up with.
but that only lasted a month or two before she really got attached. it started when you introduced her to your mom and started causally hanging out with your friends at the beach.
when you friend laughed and asked if you two were together at first, you both laughed and said they were crazy. but now mabel isnât so sure about that.
right now, you two were in bed snuggled up and watching love island, since mabel loved that show to death but things didnât feel right.
she hates how you thought this was cause but for her it was more than casual now. sheâs told her friends about it but thereâs nothing she can really do because if she said something, she didnât want it to be awkward in the later future.
so she stayed silent like always, maybe, maybe if you just saw her the same way she saw you, itâd be different, youâd both would have a happy ending.
it was kind of her fault too her even agreeing to something like this but your eyes, hair, voice, it all attracted her you, she wondered sometimes what she could do to make you feel the same but for now⊠it was the long game.

Pairing: Mabel x Reader
Summary: When your luck runs out you unknowingly drag Mabel back into the life, she's so desperate to escape.

Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5 | Part 6 | Part 7 | Part 8 | Part 9 | Part 10 | Part 11 | Epilogue
Mabel sat on her couch; her legs crossed as she scribbled down stuff in her notebook. She glanced up every few seconds to read from her laptop, which was propped up on the coffee table. She was making sure to copy down only the important information. Her grades were fine, they had been since she started, she was still anxious about falling behind, it didnât seem like sheâd ever stop feeling that way.
Mabel bit her lip, trying to keep herself from smiling when she heard her door creaking open. âHavenât you learned you should lock this?â You asked.
Mabel leaned back, looking up from her notebook to see you standing in the doorway. You dropped your bag on the floor by the kitchen table as you made your way over to her. You rested your hand on the arm of the couch as you leaned down, seeming to intend on giving her a kiss. Mabel was quick to lean away from you, only laughing at the frown on your face.
âYou didnât miss me?â You pouted.
âI did,â Mabel said. You tried leaning in again, but Mabel was quick to put her hand up, gently resting it on your chest to stop you. âYou know the rules.â
You let out a dramatic sigh and stomped your way over to the bathroom. âSorry for missing my girlfriend and just wanting to give her a kiss!â You shouted before closing the bathroom door.
âSorry you smell after weeks on a fishing boat!â Mabel called back. You didnât say anything, but she knew you heard her, she could picture you standing in front of the mirror, mimicking her as you got ready to jump in the shower.
You had been gone for three weeks on a job with the guys. You seemed to really be enjoying it and got along with all the guys, even Charlie seemed to fully warm up to you. You always smelled like fish after you came home though, the first time you came back from a job Mabel had refused to kiss you because the smell was so bad. She hadnât had to worry about that with Charlie because most of the time she didnât see him until after he had showered, but you always came right to her place as soon as you docked.
Mabel was thrilled to have you back, she truly did miss you like crazy. She couldnât lie though; she enjoyed the peace without you. You were great, you had been great since she met you, you made sure to spend time with her when you were home and made sure to take her out to do something at least once during the week. She just got so much done when you werenât home, you were very good at distracting her, and when you were on a job, she could actually finish her schoolwork early and get a head start on other things.
After you were thoroughly clean and smelled of only Mabelâs soap you finally exited the bathroom, instantly plopping yourself down on the couch next to Mabel. Mabel looked at you, seeing you with your body turned towards her and your head resting on the back of the couch as you just watched her. Mabel tossed her notebook and pen on the table next to her laptop and laid back, mirroring your position.
âHi,â you whispered.
âHi,â she whispered back. She flicked her gaze from your eyes to your lips and back, but you were still just watching her. âWhat are you waiting for?â
You smiled before leaning in. Mabel was quick to meet your lips, as if on instinct she grabbed the back of your neck to deepen the kiss. When she finally broke the kiss the two of you went back to your same position, just looking at each other. Mabel gently ran her hands through your hair, lightly scratching your scalp until you slowly closed your eyes. Whenever you got home after a job you showered, gave Mabel her kiss, and then passed out somewhere. Most of the time it was on the couch, like now, as Mabel did her schoolwork.
The rest of the week went by like it always did when you were home. Mabel would go to class, come home and do her homework, youâd spend the day working on your boat, and then at night youâd come home, if Mabel didnât have to come get you, and the two of you would have dinner together. Mabel wasnât sure how you did it, your schedule was already crazy, then when you were home, you were working on the sailboat you got from sunrise to sunset, and yet you still made time for Mabel, you still somehow surprised her, taking her on little dates or just taking her to experience something new in general.
You had enough money to buy a brand-new sailboat, but you went with a fixer upper. Mabel wasnât sure why youâd want to spend time working on a boat instead of sailing on it, but you said you wanted it to be fully yours. Mabel was with you when you bought it from the guy, it was practically love at first sight and you spent most of your time with the thing, painting it and changing certain things out to something new. Mabel admired the commitment; she might have thought it would be easier to just buy a new one, but she understood your desire to basically get one that needed work so you could do whatever you wanted to it and make it exactly how you wanted.
Finally at the end of the week Mabel burst through the door, tossing her bag onto the kitchen table before walking straight to her bed and flopping down face first. It felt like she had just closed her eyes when you burst through the door. You were either in a rush or excited based on the sound of the door flying back and smacking the wall.
âGreat!â you said. Excited, you were definitely excited about something. âYouâre home!â Mabel only let out a groan, you might have been excited, but she was tired. âI have a surprise!â
âIs it a nap?â Mabel asked, her voice getting muffled by the mattress as she was too tired to even lift her head.
You didnât answer her, but Mabel heard you shuffled around then she felt the bed dip next to her. She managed to turn her head so she could look up at you. You had one hand rested on the mattress and you leaned back, her sleepiness not seeming to deter your excitement in the slightest.
âWhat?â Mabel asked softly. As tired as she was, she didnât want to be grumpy because you were clearly very excited about something. The last time you had come into the apartment that happy was when you bought the boat.
âRest,â you whispered, gently brushing a few strands of hair out of the way that had fallen across her face. Mabel opened her mouth to argue but you shushed her. âTake a nap and then Iâll show you.â
âAre you sure?â She mumbled, already closing her eyes.
âItâll be better at night anyway.â That was the last thing Mable heard before she let sleep take her.
Mabel wasnât sure how long she was out but when she woke up, she felt much more well rested. She rolled over, furrowing her brow when her face went into a pillow. She sat up and through her sleep filled eyes she could see you had shifted her, so she was properly laying on the bed and you even tossed a blanket over her. When she finally rubbed all the sleep out of her eyes, she finally saw you sitting on the couch, a movie playing in the background as you scrolled through stuff on your laptop.
âHey,â she rasped out. She quickly slipped out of the bed and went to grab a glass of water from the kitchen.
âMorning,â you said with a teasing tone. âHow was your nap?â
âVery needed,â Mabel mumbled as she made her way over to you. She sat her glass on the coffee table then curled up on the couch, burying her head in your neck as she snuggled into your side. She felt, more than heard you chuckle, moving your body to get more comfortable. âThank you,â she mumbled into your neck.
âAny time,â you whispered. âAre you up for a surprise?â Mabel lifted her head off you but didnât get out of your space, if you turned your head a little to the right, she would barely have to lean up to steal a kiss. âIf not, we can do it tomorrow.â
There was a part of Mabel that wanted to say yes to pushing it to tomorrow. She didnât know what you had planned and even though her nap was much needed, she could still pass out again in an instant. You were clearly excited about whatever it was you wanted to show her though and she didnât want to disappoint you, besides she was intrigued by what could have possibly made you so happy.
âJust let me change and we can go,â she said.
You turned your head and gave her a quick kiss. She didnât miss the way your eyes lit up. She quickly removed herself from your side and got changed. She was pulling down her shirt when she paused and turned back to you. âDoes your surprise have a dress code?â She asked.
âNope!â You said, smiling happily. âJust dress comfortably.â Mabel nodded and continued getting dressed. âOh, you might want a hoodie as well.â Mabel glanced back at you, narrowing her eyes but you were focused on your laptop again.
When Mabel was all done, she tried to offer to drive the two of you wherever you wanted to go but you refused and begged for her keys. Mabel was beginning to wonder why you didnât just buy your own car, she didnât know why they always had to use hers when you always insisted on driving. Mabel handed over her keys though and opted to watch out the window in hopes of figuring out where you were taking her.
Mabel furrowed her brow when you continued to make familiar turns, heading in a direction she had been hundreds of times. âWeâre going towards the docks?â she said slowly, though it came out more like a question. You remained silent but Mabel caught the slight smirk on your face.
Mabel couldnât help but glance at you every few seconds, you werenât saying anything. You parked the car and ran over to open her door, all without saying a word. She let you take hold of her hand and lead her down to the docks. The more boats you passed Mabel could practically feel you buzzing, if she wasnât holding your hand, she could picture you running down the dock and jumping up and down.
You finally came to a stop in front of a boat, letting go of Mabelâs hand so she could step forward. She could see you bouncing up and down on your feet as she stood before the boat. She looked up at it, it was nice, in amazing condition. She narrowed her eyes at the name and thatâs when it clicked. âYou got it in the water?â she asked, spinning around to see her smile matched yours.
You quickly nodded your head up and down and grabbed onto her hand again. âIâm going to change the name,â you said. âBut for now sheâs officially seaworthy!â You gestured wide at the boat, not letting go of Mabelâs hand in the process. âIâve already taken her out and she runs smooth,â you smiled up at the boat. âBut I wanted to take you out, we can make it a little date?â You looked down at your feet suddenly getting shy.
Mabel tilted your chin up with her finger and pulled you into a long kiss, she could feel you instantly smiling into it. âArenât you going to show me aboard, Captain?â She whispered against your lips when she pulled away.
âLetâs go!â You tightened your grip and dragged her down the dock to board the boat.
You quickly showed Mabel the entire boat. It was a quick tour because it was big enough for only one person to sail it if needed, but it had been a while since she had seen the thing. When she last saw it, it was still a dirty off-white color, all the benches and cabinets were torn out, and most importantly it was not in the water. Everything was put back together now though; the boat was a pristine white with a blue stripe running along it.
After showing off everything Mabel stayed by your side as you backed the boat out of the harbor. She couldnât help but smile at how weird it felt having the boat moving under her feet. She had never been on a sailboat before, sheâd only ever heard your talking about them. She watched how concentrated you got as you turned the wheel, steering the boat in the direction you wanted to go. You took the boat far enough out that when she squinted Mabel could still see the lights of the dock. You dropped the anchor, and Mabel was even more curious as to what your plan was, though she was definitely enjoying it.
âI made us a little picnic,â you said. You climbed down into the boat and a moment later came back up with a little picnic basket.
With one hand you held the basket while the other took Mabelâs once again. She followed you, watching your feet as she carefully stepped where you did. You led her to the deck in the front of the boat. It wasnât that most ideal place to sit, there were actual seats inside and back by the wheel, but for some reason you wanted to sit at the front. You sat the basket down and grabbed the blanket tucked between the handles before laying it out.
Mabel followed your lead and took a seat on the blanket. It was dark out, but the moon and stars lit up the sky enough that the two of you could see what you were doing. You reached into the basket and pulled out two bottles of soda and she happily took one of them from you. You reached in again and pulled out two sandwiches wrapped in plastic. Mabel happily took the one you held out to her, as soon as she unwrapped it, she knew you had made her favorite.
âWhen did you do all this?â She asked. It was relatively simple looking, but it was clear you had thought everything through, this didnât seem to be something you planned in one day.
âWhile you were sleeping,â you admitted shyly. ââMade the sandwichâs, got everything in the basket, brought the basket here, came back. All while you were still sleeping.â
âI was tired!â Mabel defended, playfully slapping you on the arm before taking a bite of her sandwich.
You just chuckled and ate your own sandwich. The two of you sat in silence, looking out at the ocean. Mabel had to admit, it was pretty nice, the ocean was truly beautiful even at night, even the way the ship swayed didnât bother her. When the two of you were all done you put the basket to the side and laid back, Mabel followed your lead and the two of you looked up at the stars. It was slightly uncomfortable since people werenât meant to be lying on that part of the boat, but it was still somehow perfect.
Mabel had a small smile on her face as she stared up at the stars, she had never been able to see them so clearly. Living in the city, even a small town, meant the stars werenât as visible, she had never seen so many scattered across the sky. She turned to steal a glance at you when she noticed you were already staring at her.
âWhat?â she asked with a light chuckle.
You gave a little shrug. Your eyes flicked down, away from her face as if you were afraid of what she might see. She looked down when she saw the blanket moving, seeing you picking at the fabric. It wasnât often you got all shy on her, you were usually annoyingly confident.
You flicked your gaze back to here and the two of you just stared into each otherâs eyes. âI love you,â you whispered. Mabelâs entire body froze, she wasnât sure if you started rambling because you noticed or because you were just so nervous. âYou donât have to say it back, I donât expect it, no pressure. I just-â
Mabel cut you off with a kiss. She rolled over so she was practically laying on top of you. She made the kiss long and drawn out, trying to express how okay she was with what you said. When she finally broke the kiss, she looked down at you, seeing you wear that goofy grin you always had after she kissed you. âI love you too,â she whispered, before leaning down to connect your lips again.
She lost track of time after that; she had no idea how long she ended up kissing you. When she was finally satisfied, she scooted closer to you, making sure her body was pressed again yours. You wrapped your arm around her, pulling her closer. She rested her head on your chest as the two of you went back to staring up at the stars, both of you sporting matching smiles.

Mabel (Finestkind) x G!P Reader
Warnings: life crisis, bruises, smut, bad writing because of translation
A/N: hello my dears. Here a Mabel short story. Maybe making a part two. The requests I had got are in work :) So this is my first try of some spice in English and I could cry in pain. The translation is so bad. And I need to stop changing perspective so often. Itâs getting confusing right? Hope you guys can still enjoy
Part 2, Part 3
I remembered as if it was yesterday when I kept an eye on Mabel after she was beaten up by these damn dealers. I didn't know much but what I knew was that things didn't go as they should. So before Charlie took Mabel's car to take care of some things, I got the call to watch out for Mabel until he would be back.
I leaned against the wall when I looked through the small slit in her cardboard at the window. The sun seemed to go down. I sighed softly. What situation did I find myself in again? How many times had I asked myself this when it came to Mabel. For a very long time I thought that we were friends... although I knew deep inside that we never were. I was just like a lost puppy... someone who would follow her wherever she wanted to go. Someone who would do anything to pray for her. Someone whose feelings were obviously not reciprocated. Someone... who was self-evident.
I looked over my shoulder back at her. As if frozen, she sat at the end of her bed and stared at the dark floor. I could feel her pain... her fear. What should you say to someone who was beaten up by dealers a few hours ago? Was there anything right to say?
As I knew Mabel, it was probably raging in her thoughts. Accusations. Shame. Disappointment. She hated the life she came from. I never knew anyone who had longed for a different life like me. At that time, I thought this was something that had connected us. Or did I just try to look longing for things that weren't there? For things that would connect us in any way?
I turned around and walked to the small dining table to take one of the chairs. When I now picked up one of the older wooden chairs and placed it in front of Mabel to sit im front of her, I got her attention. But I only got this because I had made noises that weren't there before.
I slowly sat down opposite her, looking down at the pack full of swabs and the alcohol bottle. I took out one of the swabs and moistened it with the alcohol.
I carefully lifted Mabel's chin with my hand. My eyes were now on her lips. The laceration on her lip had opened again. I didn't know if my attempt to take care of her injury made sense. Whether it did anything at all. But I couldn't stand here any further, wait for Charlie's return and drown in silence.
"You fumble too much on it... it opens again and again" I whispered gently before I dabbing her wound and only got a soft hiss from Mabel when she consumed herself because of the burning.
Again, a sigh escaped me. I threw the cotton wool aside. I wondered how long I would have to suffer. Would it ever be over?
"Thank you..."
The words and the me making me feel goosebumps tone in her voice brought me back. I looked with a mix of worry and sadness in her dark eyes, slightly smeared eyelashes ink emphasized her aura. Her left eye was decorated with yellow bruised spots that slowly turned purple.
I lost myself in the darkness of her eyes. Asked me if she could ever see how much was hidden in my eyes? Every time I looked at her, I had the feeling that I knew what was going on in her. How she felt.
My heart was bleeding and although I knew that my presence and the attempt to sit or just be there for her would not change anything , I couldnât help it. I hesitantly raised my hand and fixed her bangs, with an almost trembling hand I tried to wipe a strand to the side to see her face better. I didn't want to hurt her. I was afraid of getting so close to her at all.
Now I could admire her injured face in full costume. Why is my heart bleeding all the more to see her in such a state? Why did I find her even more beautiful? Why couldn't these feelings disappear?
The burning of my eyes brought me back from a so-called trance. I didn't smell any of these feelings. Never.
"You are very strong... never forget that," I whispered because I didn't know what else to say. Her eyes pierced me. This time I didn't know what I could see in it. Gratitude? Security? Or maybe it was nothing at all?
But they seemed so gentle. So gently that I had to fight with the urge to somehow tell her my feelings.
Almost a year passed after this incident.
Mabel and Charlie have been still a couple. Charlie and Tom had now built a new bussines with the Finestkind. The crew still had hard jobs... yet they were independent and very important... not on the criminal path.
It was again one of those nights when I sat on the scaffolding of the bridge and just watched as the sea and the sky became one in the dark.
Never before had I felt so lost. So lost from my path.
It was the stormy days when I was here at the pier and watched the raging sea. It should remind me that I was alive... that there had to be a reason for all this. That there was a story for me that I didn't know anything about yet, but when would all this come? When would I feel free. When would I feel important?
"It's one of those days again?"
a voice too familiar to me spoke.
I looked to the side, Mabel slowly approached the terrain and looked out into the distance in which the lights of the Finestkind could already be seen.
Then my heart sank. I knew she was here to pick up Charlie. It wasn't a prescribed path that should lead her to me... No... but to Charlie.
I looked at the ship.
"I guess" I said because I didn't know if Mabel was really interested in how I was doing and what I was doing. Most of the time I was the one who asked and listened, I mean⊠I cared.
"How's it going with college?" I asked her
Mabel nodded and had this beautiful wide smile on her lips as she looked out to the ship. From the side I could she her dimples and beautiful side profile.
"It was definitely the right decision," she said.
I smiled because of her happiness. Of her her joy...
"I'm happy about that," I said and looked back at the ship. As it got more and more windy, Mabel had hooked her arm in mine and laughed slightly "you have to stop being up here in this weather. It's dangerous"
I grinned. Was this a concern? Was she really interested? This sentence warmed my heart in so many ways. The fact that she knew how many times I was here... that alone gave me hope.
"But at those times it looks the most beautiful out here!" I shouted when a stronger gust of wind hit us.
Mabel shook her head "you really have to stop falling for the things that could kill you"
I looked at her thoughtfully.
What did she mean by that?
Suddenly the horn of the finestkind sounded. Mabel grabbed my arm more firmly and pulled me with her to leave the scaffolding of the bridge together.
When we arrived downstairs and watched the boys docking, my heart began to race. As soon as Charlie had left the ship, Mabels loosened her grip around my arm and she landed in his. He put his arms around her narrow waist and kissed her for a long time.
How much I wish I could have been Charlie. How much I wanted to give her my love and everything else in the world... how much I wanted this from her. The other boys greeted me with hugs. Tom laughed dry
"Y/N if you continue like this you will become our lighthouse" a laugh escaped me and I boxed into his shoulder.
"Beauty and death at the same time... I say," Mabel joked. I grinned and gradually began to understand. "What do you think... are we still going to the bar?" Charlie asked.
More months passed after that day. It was a day like almost any other.
I didn't go to the community college like Mabel, but I had studied online. In the summer season, Mabel actually began to spent most of her time with me on the grounds of the bridge. We learned together. Waited until the boys would come back.
It became our thing. Now I knew that Mabel came here not only because of Charlie... but also because of me.
"How are things going?" I asked her because she was exceptionally quiet today. She looked into the distance and said "I'm not sure..."
I knew this look. Pain. Longing. So I counted one and one together. Things between her and Charlie seemed to have changed.
The boys haven't come back for a long time now. They were on a almost one month long "trip" if I could call it that.
I followed her gaze, a fisherman to date, I indeed imagined that difficult.
"Do you have time tonight?" Mabel asked me with this self-confident strong tone. I looked back at my laptop
"Probably why?"
"I could use some help..."
She began to pack her things and looked down at me. The wind blew slightly through her hair, she looked at me with a grin to which I could never say no.
"So?" She Hacked after I was just staring at her. I shook my head slightly to wake up.
"Yes... yes, of course. When should I come over?" I asked her
"I'll come to you... in about an hour..."
I nodded and watched her go down.
Maybe we were friends after all.
Later in the evening I was just cooking food.
One hour became two... and two almost three. It has now been 11 o'clock at night. I was tired and would still have to do some tasks.
Just when I was about to change, it suddenly knocked on my door. Confused about the late time, I went to the door and opened it. Immediately Mabel entered my apartment slightly out of breath with a wide grin.
Confused, I locked the door behind her and looked after her. She put her shoulder bag on my dining table and said
"Sorry, I'm late..."
I laughed dryly and looked at the clock
"Three hours..."
Mabel continued to grin as if she was in a âthat interested me at least now modeâ. She took off her leather jacket and looked at me "it's not a bad thing"
I walked past her to drink a glass of water in the kitchen "it's not like I would have liked to have done something else instead of waiting here and worrying a little".
Mabel followed every movement of Y/N with a cheeky yet gentle smile.
"You were worried?" She asked in a teasing tone. Surprised by the sound, I looked at her nervously "of course... it's dark outside and you didn't even send me a text"
Mabel laughed slightly as she walked closer to Y/N "You could have texted me too..." she whispered and looked at her urgently.
Y/N felt a heat in herself that was difficult to control. In order not to respond to Mabel's last words, I said nervously "you wanted my help... what exactly?"
Mabel came closer and held the eye contact for unusually long "did I want that?" She whispered.
Slightly confused, I looked at her and didn't quite understand. I wanted to say something, but I didn't know what.
Suddenly Mable slowly put her hand around my waist and said "I meant rather... that I need you tonight"
The place where she touched me sent a wave of goose bumps to the rest of my body. Were those signals? Did I understand the situation I was in right now?
She got closer and closer to me and I didn't even think about moving at all. Her eyes moved back and forth between my eyes and lips. Her face was only centimeters away when her lips slightly brushed mine.
"How much do you want me y/n?" She whispered.
My heart beated hard against my chest.
As if attracted by a siren, I lean in. Next, I felt her soft lips on mine.
The lips that I wanted to feel for so long. To taste.
Mabel grabbed my neck and kissed me back deeper as she slowly led us into my bedroom.
There she pushed me down on the edge of my bed before she made herself comfortable on my lap and started kissing on my neck. Her hips moved into mine. My member immediately started to get hard. This seemed to please her because she rubbed herself more and more firmly on it as she held my neck tightly and kissed me passionately.
I was breathing heavily. Held her hip that was moving back and forth in my hands when I began to breathe heavily. I kissed her back hungry. My lips brushed hers over and over again when I tried to hold back.
"Don't hold back... show me" she whispered seductive. I pressed my nails into the fabric of her hotpants before kissing her hard and then bit on her lower lip to pull it slightly. Mabel gasped slight in surprise of the intense feeling and was overwhelmed by the fact how good y/n felt.
She kept grinding on y/n lap. She felt the big and hard bump in y/n pants and wanted to feel it so bad... wanted to touch it so bad. So she opened y/n pants and observed how rapid the breathing of y/n became.
Both looked down when Mabel freed y/n hard cock. Suddenly it felt like time had stopped. Very slowly she took him in her hand became aware of the size and felt the warmth he radiated. Y/N swallowed hard when she could watch Mabel hold her hard cock in her hand. Her hand was warm and it just felt so good. Both raised their heads and their eyes met. Mable's gaze wandered between Y/N's eyes and lips.
Y/n put her hand around the back of Mabel's head and pulled her closer. She kissed her slowly, breathed heavily and groped herself slowly with her tongue. Mabel escaped a slight moan when she returned this kiss and her tongue hit y/n. She grabbed her cock more firmly and began to move her hand up and down very slowly. Y/n felt all the pleasure coming over search. These touches. That's all she had always longed for.
Mabel observes satisfied the effective she exercised on y/n when she breathed heavily into her neck and tried to hold back her moans.
But she felt and could see how harder y/n always became. She wondered if the pain was with pleasure. She looked down at the pink tip as she slowed down her firm movements and stroked her thumb over her tip. Mabel herself felt an unbearably good pulsation inside of her when she saw some white liquid coming out of y/n cock.
Her heart was racing like crazy. Oh how much her body screamed for y/n. The things she wanted to do with her. She slowly began to kiss her neck. Her tongue strokes slightly over y/n pulse. She now moved her hand a little faster. But didn't want to take y/n too far because she wanted to feel her inside of herself.
She breathed heavily against y/n neck as she started to grind on her thighs while she gave you a probably long-awaited handjob.
"Do you have condoms?" Asked Mabel with a raspy voice. Y/n held tight Mabelâs waist. She breathed heavily when she said "Night table... top... top drawer"
Mabel nodded and reached for y/n jaw before she kissed her deeply and her tongue explored her mouth. She had some condoms herself, of course, but she preferred to use y/n... especially since this was a size that was clearly not comparable to that of Charlie and that in a good sense.
When her lips loosened, she let go of her hard limb. She began to take off y/n sweatshirt and shortly afterwards y/n helped Mabel get rid of her clothes.
Mabel slowly pressed y/n into the mattress so that she was laying on her back.
Mabel leaned over her as she began to kiss her passionately and rubbed her wet middle over the erection of y/n.
Y/n moaned and turned around so that Mabel was now under her. She kissed her jaw, throat and neck before she slightly bit into it and made Mabel escape moan.
She places herself between Mabel's legs. Their naked bodies touched each other and y/n struggled with an almost painful erection. She felt Mabel's warm and moist vagina. With her tip, she brushed Mabel's clit and breathed heavily as Mabel's grip solidified around y/n shoulders.
With full passion, y/n looked into Mabel's dark eyes before she bent over her chest and began to kiss her left breast. Mabel's grip demanded herself in y/n hair when she arched her back in pleasure and moaned. Y/n took time to taste her warm and gentle skin. In a teasing way she brushed her lips above the sensitive skin of Mabel's breast before teasing her nipple.
"Y/n..."
Gasped Mabel heavy. A shiver hit down y/n spine. How long did she want to hear Mabel call her. Taste and touch her body. She slowly kissed her nipples. And moved her tongue around it in circle movements. Everything y/n did robbed Mabel of her mind.
Mabel stretched out her arm and opened the top drawer of the bedside table to look for the condom.
That was a signal for y/n that Mabel wanted more and needed it. With hot and wet kisses y/n covered Mabel's neck and whispered Husky "don't be so impatient Mabel..."
Mabel shivered and chuckled slight before locking eyes with y/n and whispered seductive "just do what I'm telling you to do...".
She caressed y/n stomach... moving her hand slowly down to your hard cock "...please"
She added.
You nodded and let her put the condom on your hard cock.
You shivered when her hands touched you again and rolled over the condom in the most sensual way you could have imagine.
You spread her legs more before burying your face in the crook of her neck. Slowly you penetrated into her. Her walls are tighter than you could ever have imagined.
Some sounds left Mabel as you continue to slowly go deeper. You had reached for the lacquer when Mabel pressed her nails into your back and moaned as you extended her further. After a few moments, you both breathed harder. Mabel put her legs around your hip and whispered "deeper".
You did her that favor and fill her completely with your length in the next moment.
A loud moan caught her and for you it was like music. You finally got what you wanted. What you had longed for. Mabel. In your arms. Connected to each other. You would never be able to let her go again. She was what kept you alive... what motivated you every day even if it was so hard.
I held her hip tightly as I began to move slowly. Mabel's breathing became more and more intense. She moaned almost evenly and called my name.
I began to bump harder, had a firm grip around her thigh when I breathed heavily against her lips. She stretched out her head. Put her arms around my neck to be able to kiss me. Her tongue brushed my lips as she whispered â...y/nâ.
I felt how she became more and more tighter with excitement. I felt a soft end with every new and faster push that made her moan more. I knew... that I had found the spot... and it wouldn't be long before she would have her orgasm.
"Y/n!" She shouted, totally intoxicated. Your body was shaking. With every push, she came closer to the feeling of pure satisfaction.
I kissed her hard before I buried my face back in her neck and whispered "your mine now..."

in what way?
pairing: tara carpenter x fem reader
summary: your ex girlfriend begins to regret leaving you when all she wanted to do was protect you. maybe she broke you more than she thought.
word count: 900+
based off request! i came across a reblog that said that i needed to make more tara fluff.. maybe next story?..
-
hello my love, I would like to know if you could do a one shot based on the song shut up my moms calling by hotel ugly, Tara x fem reader plsđ
-
I just wanna rewind, I havenât seen you in a long time
Ever since the ghostface incidents that fortunately, Tara has survived, sheâs been avoiding you.
I mean, she knew you would never be ghostface, but whenever she was near you now she just felt like she shouldnât.Â
She shouldnât be spending time with you when she was always a pain in the ass over ghostface. She still had that trauma that she knew a band-aid wouldnât fix, her inner and outer scars may never heal.Â
But she also knew she shouldnât be avoiding you when you took a stab in your arm for her, you protected her, but you werenât one of the core 4. What if you ended up like Anika? What if she failed to catch you when you fell? She was scared because she knew that if you ever died or even got a scratch on you, she wouldnât be able to see the end of it. Nightmares haunted her every time she closed her eyes. Itâs like she canât even have a good option.ïżœïżœWell except when she was hurled up to your neck as you snored softly on her chest.
Letting you go meant no cuddles and kisses at night, where she would actually be able to sleep peacefully without having any nightmares. There would be no more Friday nights with you. She wouldnât be able to see you glance at her with these loving eyes you always did. She couldnât bear seeing you look at her like you did at Chad or Mindy or Sam. You looked at her like she was Tara. Your Tara, your eyes go soft when you see her. She didnât want to lose that. She loves you more than a heart's love. But if she keeps you with her, youâre at risk of being killed. Youâre at risk of losing your life and Tara could never forgive herself. But youâll be with her. Youâll be able to make her heart feel whole. What was more important? Keeping herself loved, or keeping you safe? Keeping your heart whole?.. Or breaking it?
âGosh,â she groaned, she didnât know. But she did know she was going to have to begin to stop seeing you so often.
A week in and she could feel it.
That isnât you, so baby bring it in closely.
She felt your eyes trace her whenever she was in the room. She felt those soft eyes slowly grow dark, she knew you felt sad. Like you were waiting for her, silently knowing she might never come back to you. Tara doesnât notice how you would blink your tears away that you had to cover your face and cry against your sleeves. She doesnât know how if she only got a few hours of sleep because she slept without you, that you got none.
You got me feeling so lonely.Â
Even with the hurt that has held in your heart, you didnât want to go back to her because she broke up with you, it wasnât the other way around. It would never be the other way around. You felt alone.
Youâve been acting like you hardly know me.
You didnât know why, you still didnât know why she began to fade from your life, but you didnât want to make her life so hard. Maybe she dropped you because thatâs what you did in the first place, make her days a mess. When really itâs the other way around, you made it whole. Tara felt the way your figure turned away from her whenever she was near, a simple switch of your heel when she was there and walked away as quickly as you could. You talked to everyone but her.Â
You began to finally find back the solace that music brought. You used to wear them when Tara didnât know you, you wore them over your neck all the time. But when you started dating her, music felt like it wasnât necessary anymore. Why would you need it to listen to music when you could hear your girlfriend's sweet laughter and voice? It was better than a sweet melody. She brought you harmony.
You both missed each other. Your room was filled with her, polaroids in every picture hung up above your bed, three boxes filled with books you once read together, a cooking book you used to bake on free Sundays, jewelry. You never took it down, because you still loved her. You canât stop loving someone. You just find someone else to love more.Â
Tara regrets it, she thought it would be so easy, she thought it wouldâve been better to know that you were going to be okay. But ghostface wasnât here right now. She felt so numb. Ghostface was gone and it would take time before the next legacy would be sparked to life once again.
But she ignored you to protect you.Â
And the thing was, she knew that she broke you more than she protected you. She wanted to take it back. Tara wished she could feel your warm body laying in the same sheets. Knowing that you were hurting more than she was.Â
You and Tara made eye contact, you two looked at each other for a long moment, before brushing past each other like strangers in another life, tears falling gently down each other's faces.Â
She couldâve taken you back, but what was there to fix if the heart was broken beyond repair?
Your heart raced whenever you saw her, but she felt it begin to slow, losing your hope.
She wanted you to heal, she didn't want to come back just to be told that you didn't want to see her face.
She didn't know.
Maybe she shouldn't come back.
Maybe she shouldn't come back home in your arms at all.

Mabel and R spend a carefree day at the beach, building sandcastles, splashing in the waves, and sharing ice cream cones as they soak up the sun.
Sunny Day
Mabel x GN! Reader (Request)
Masterlist
Word count: 0.8k
âYou are so childish!â Mabelâs laughter echoed throughout the nearly empty beach, it was a bit secluded and not a lot of people knew about it, but Charlie saw it from the ship one day, told about it to Mabel and here you were, having fun.
âSo, donât help me, miss too old to make sandcastles,â you stuck your tongue out playfully as you dug the trenches around a fairly big sandcastle you and Mabel have been making for the past hour.
âOh, I didnât mean the castle,â she laughed, pointing at the tiny sand monsters that looked like blobs heading toward the castle.
You snickered, proud of your creations. But more than anything, you were happy to be here with Mabel. Sheâs been busy with college lately, and to have a day like this, where you could just hang out and have fun, felt like a treasure you absolutely needed to cherish with all your heart. âI love being here with you,â you still werenât sure when to say âI love youâ to Mabel, it was still a fairly fresh relationship, and while it didnât feel casual, it still felt like it was just a bit too early for that.
She smiled confidently, and pecked you on the lips. âI love being here with you too,â somehow, you felt like she would be the first to say those three words, but that was topic for another day. âOh, shit!â she grabbed your hand and pulled you back before a slightly bigger wave could splash you.
Unfortunately, nothing could be done to save the castle, as the two of you stared blankly at the ruins of an empire you have built together. In the end it wasnât the army of blobs, but the anger of mother nature that caused the symbol of the once mighty rulers to crumble.
Oh, well, it was bound to happen.
You glanced at Mabel, then at the sea, then grinned as she smiled suggestively at you.
âYou thinking what Iâm thinking?â you asked.
âGo for a swim?â she guessed, prompting you to nod, and since she was still holding your hand she just pulled you along to the water.
It was refreshing to be in the water after so many days of summer heat killing your mood. And Mabel was the image of grace in the water, her movements smooth and measured, it was like she was one with the water, like it was natural for her to move through it, and you were mesmerized.
âYouâre staring,â she pointed out and splashed you.
You splashed right back, making her hair stick to her forehead. âLook who is childish now,â you laughed, which turned out to be a mistake, as Mabel fired back, filling your mouth with salty sea water. You coughed, trying to get rid of the taste as she laughed. âOh, you want war? Youâll get one!â you exclaimed, chasing after her as she shrieked and swam away from you.
âI surrender, I surrender!â she laughed as you caught up with her and pulled her to your chest. Both of you breathed a bit heavily but the grins on your faces made it all worth it. âI surrender,â she cupped your cheek, kissing you much deeper this time.
âGood,â you muttered, as you separated.
âAs if!â she splashed you right in the face and swam toward the beach as you just remained there, too surprised to go after her. Eventually, you just shook your head and swam back as well.
âYou surrendered, just so weâre clear on who won,â you said as she lied on the towel and basked in the sun. Mabel just lifted her sunglasses from her eyes and gave you a âno way,â look. âStrawberry vanilla ice cream?â you asked as you took your wallet.
âYou know me,â she stretched a bit with a wide smile on her face.
You went and bought the ice cream cones and rushed back before they could melt. Mabel, surprisingly preferred softer flavors, which you found extremely cute. âHere you go,â you offered the ice cream to her and sat down on the towel next to hers. âI could eat this all day,â you sighed contently as the ice cream cooled you down.
âAgreed,â she leaned her head on your shoulder and took your free hand in hers. âYou know, Y/N,â she began, looking you in the eyes.
âHmm?â you werenât sure what she was going to say, but judging by the look on her face it was important to her.
âI love you,â your eyes widened as she said those three words you struggled to say before.
âI love you too, Mabel,â you told her, grinning widely.

Luck Runs Out |Part 5|
Pairing: Mabel x Reader
Summary: When your luck runs out you unknowingly drag Mabel back into the life, she's so desperate to escape.
Warnings: Light threatening
Word Count: 4k
Main Masterlist | Series Masterlist
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5 | Part 6 | Part 7 | Part 8 | Part 9 | Part 10 | Part 11 | Epilogue
âShe remained loyal the entire time?!â Mabel said, flinging the door open to her apartment.
You jumped, quickly flinching at the movement. You were healing up nicely, at least you thought you were, but sudden movements still caused you some excruciating pain. Mabel had left for her class early in the morning and you were dozing off ever since then. You were bored out of your mind being stuck in someone elseâs apartment, every little movement causing you pain, and there was nothing good on TV.
âWhat?â You asked when you finally settled back down. Mabel usually came in relatively quietly, besides when she threw her backpack on the dining table.
âPenelope!â She said like it was obvious, holding her arms out wide.
You furrowed your brow, what she was talking about still not fully clicking. Your eyes drifted to her hands, noticing she was holding a small beat-up paperback book in one. You couldnât help but smile, breaking out into a laugh when you noticed the title said The Odyssey. She had mentioned wanting to read it so she could talk argue with you more, but you didnât actually think she would. Most people didnât find classics very interesting, even you had to admit they were a struggle to read a times. Though Mabel was unlike others, and she actually listened to your rambles, even entertained them, still you didnât think sheâd actually read the book.
âYeah,â you said slowly. âYou already knew that? You were literally just arguing with me about that the other day.â
âYeah well,â Mabel huffed out, gripping the book in her hand a bit tighter. âThereâs a difference between knowing the story and actually reading it for yourself. I didnât realize how amazing Penelope was and how much Odysseus sucks!â
âYou read it?â You couldnât help but ask, completely ignoring the fact that she said your favorite hero sucked. Looking at her with disbelief, it was so small, it was literally just her reading a book you liked, but no one had ever done that for you before.
âYeah, wellâŠâ Mabel got quieter, bringing one hand up to rub the back of her neck. She suddenly decided the floor was the most interesting thing in the room as she avoided looking at you. You tried to contain a smirk when you noticed the blush slowly beginning to form on her cheeks. âYou said it was your favorite and figured you wouldnât mind re-reading it while you were stuck here.â
You gave her a shy smile, reaching to take the book as she offered it to you. âThank you.â You looked down at the copy, it was clearly a library book, one that had years of love showing. It kind of reminded you of the copy you used to keep on the boat, so many nights reading it.
You looked up at her, still seeing her avoid your gaze. She kicked at invisible rocks on the ground as she tried to hide a ghost of a smile. âYou read it,â you couldnât help but tease.
âWell, I had it,â she quickly defended, crossing her arms. âI had time between classes and needed something to do and it was there soâŠâ
You nodded, silently chuckling to yourself, she could give you whatever excuse she wanted, it didnât change the fact that she read it. âWhat did you think?â You decided to ask, you didnât care if she didnât like it, you were just happy someone actually read it and seemed willing to talk to you about it. Even if it meant them arguing with you about the book, you would happily go down defending Odysseus.
âIt was fine,â Mabel shrugged. âI guess.â You laughed at her, shaking your head again. âBut Penelope,â she got her fire back, pointing a finger at you. âShe just waited for twenty years!â
âWell, yeah,â you said, giving her a little shrug. You didnât know where she was going with this. Itâs why it was your favorite love story, for twenty years Penelope waited, not knowing whether her husband was alive or dead, she waited for him. While Odysseus fought for those twenty years to get back to her, never letting anything stand in his way, never losing the love he felt for his wife.
âBut Odysseus can just sleep with everyone!â
You nodded finally seeing what argument Mabel was intending to make, too bad for her she had only read the book once, whereas you had to read it dozens of times and knew it like the back of your hand. Her losing the debate was inevitable but you appreciated that she was even trying.
âHe didnât sleep with everyone,â was your first response.
âHe slept with women who werenât his wife.â
âWeâve been over this; it was to survive or because he didnât have a choice.â Mabel huffed, crossing her arms as she began to pout.
âPenelope has a ton of suitors,â Mabel mumbled. âLiving in her house, eating her food, she never once strayed.
You gave Mabel a deadpanned look. âThey planned to kill her son.â
âAnd yet she still held out hope for Odysseus.â
You couldnât help but laugh at her pouting like a child. âSo, you think it would have been better if she what, slept with Antinous?â
Mabel mumbled something incoherently, but you could wager a guess as to what it was. âIâm sorry?â You said in a teasing tone knowing you already won.
âNo,â she grumbled louder.
You saw she was still pouting. You sighed and gave a dramatic eye roll; this girl was so adorable. You really wished you had met her under better circumstances, maybe if you hadnât made poor choices in your life, you could have been someone she deserved. Oh well you never had much luck in that department.
âCome on,â you sighed, âOdysseus isnât that bad. Isnât his life like a dream?â You looked up with a smile as you daydreamed about having a life like his.
âWhat? Traveling the world and having a lady in every port, while one waits for you at home?â Mabel snarked. âThatâs your dream?â She raised an eyebrow, as if daring you to agree with her,
âNo,â you chuckled. âI mean being out at sea, traveling all over the world, having an adventure, but always coming back home to your love, your soulmate.â
You were staring off into space as you thought of that life. It truly was just a dream for you, you knew youâd never actually get to experience it. Even without your current predicament your job would have never allowed you the freedom to travel like that. Even if you could just pick up and leave, travel all over the world like you wished, youâd never met a girl who shared the same dream, and you doubted you ever would. So, your dream would stay just that, a dream.
âThat sounds nice,â Mabel said. When you looked back at her she was giving you a small smile. âSo, what is your dream?â She took a seat at the edge of the bed. You could feel her arm resting up against you through the blanket as she leaned back for support. âIf you didnât have to worry about anything, if you could do whatever you wanted, whatâs your dream?â
You smiled to yourself thinking about your dream, the dream you had since you were a child. âI want to travel,â you said, smiling as you thought of all the amazing places you had only seen in pictures. âI want to buy myself a little sailboat and just,â you made a gesture with your arm, âsail around the world.â
âLike Odysseus,â she whispered. âGo to war, fight off monsters, and come home to a wife as well?â She chuckled.
You laughed along with her. âWell, I can do without the war.â That made her laugh deepen. âAnd I would prefer not to almost die at every turn but alsoâŠâ you nodded your head back and forth as you thought about it. âI wouldnât complain about seeing kraken.â
âYouâre ridiculous,â she said through her laughter. âAnd while youâre off having an adventure you want a girl waiting for you to come home?â
You couldnât help but blush at just the thought of that. âPreferably sheâd come with,â you flicked your eyes up, meeting her gaze. âNot sure how many girls are looking to live on a boat for weeks at a time as weâd sail around the world though.â
Mabel tilted her head as she stared at you, your face was starting to get hot under her unwavering gaze. You werenât sure what she was looking at, what she was seeing in you.
âI donât know,â she finally whispered. âSounds pretty amazing to me. Like a real adventure.â
You couldnât help but smile at her words. Many people loved to travel; many people loved to visit other places. There werenât many that wanted to spend the time sailing to those places though, it was dangerous, it was a commitment, and a lot of work. Most people wanted to hop on a plane and stay in hotels, not be stuck sleeping on a boat for weeks, only able to pack what was absolutely necessary.
âDo you have a boat or one in mind?â Mabel asked.
You chuckled, thinking about the hours upon hours several nights a week youâd spend looking at listing of sailing yachts, looking at the things that were perfect for sailing around the world. âNo, no boat yet,â you sighed. âDespite my⊠side job.â Mabel raised an unimpressed eyebrow at you but didnât comment. âA boat for sailing around the world is a lot. I have some saved up, so hopefully one day.â
âDefinitely one day.â You looked at her, she sounded more confident than you ever did in you reaching your dream. âYou already have money saved up. Thatâs amazing! What would be your first destination? Or the destination you must want to go to?â
You let out a laugh, you knew exactly the first place you wanted to go to. It was a place you had wanted to visit your entire life. You wanted to travel the world, see, and experience everything but this place was your number one choice every time. âGreece.â
It was Mabelâs turn to laugh, shaking her head. âOf course.â Your eyes didnât leave Mabel as she leaned back, her hand brushing across your leg once again as she relaxed even more. âSounds like you have it all planned out, you know where you want to go, youâre looking at boats, and youâre already saving money.â
âJust missing the girl,â you said with a light chuckle. You knew there was no way youâd ever find anyone to make that trip with you, youâd have to settle for going at it alone, if you lived long enough to even make your dream a reality.
âYeah,â Mabel whispered.
The two of you got lost staring into each otherâs eyes. Your eyes darted to her lips; you were hoping she didnât notice but when you met her eyes again it seemed as though she might have been looking at yours as well. Despite everything in you telling you it was a bad idea you sat up, you waited for her to move away but she never did. You slowly slid your hand across the blanket to the point it was resting next to hers, your fingers barely touching hers. You looked down at her lips one last time, quickly flicking your gaze back to her eyes. The two of you seemed to begin to lean in at the same time, your eyes just began to close.
All of a sudden someone flung the front door open, breaking the two of you out of your trance. You shot back on the bed, the quick movement making you hiss and reach for your injured shoulder. Mabel jumped up from the bed, crossing her arms, as if what was about to happen wasnât about to happen. She was glaring at whoever decided to barge into her apartment uninvited.
When you recovered enough you looked at the uninvited guest to see Charlie, one of the guys from the Finestkind crew. You looked between him and Mabel, realizing he was her ex on the crew. No one said anything, they just stared at each other, and you couldnât help the way your eyes darted back and forth between them. It was obvious that Charlie was still in love with her, and Mabel seemed to still at least care for him as well. You sighed, theyâd probably get back together eventually, it was good you didnât kiss, she was better off without you.
You cleared your throat to interrupt their little staring contest, it had begun to get awkward. Mabel broke first, shaking her head as she moved from looking at Charlie to looking at you. When she looked back at Charlie it was to glare at him. âWhat the hell are you doing here?â she asked, clearly annoyed.
âYouâre awake,â Charlie said, ignoring Mabel and looking at you. âAre you okay?â Charlie was always so nice despite your crewâs little rivalry with his, he was a good guy, it was annoying, you couldnât hate him when he was so nice.
âYeah,â you said, clearing your throat. âThank you for saving me.â
âNo problem,â he smiled.
He shrugged it off like it was nothing, like saving your life was an obvious choice. You owed him everything, him, and his crew. They could have left you in the water for dead, they should have, but they didnât. They fished you out, brought you to a friend to get patched up, and they were also holding drugs you were involved with on their own boat. Their lives were at risk the moment they brought you onboard, you wondered if they had known at the time if they would have just left you in the sea. They werenât part of your world, there was an incident a year ago but it was resolved, and they hadnât been involved ever since. They were much better people than you ever were.
âWhat the hell are you doing here?â Mabel asked again, getting more irritated at clearly being ignored. âYou canât just barge in here whenever you want.â
âSorry,â Charlie mumbled. âWe just got in,â he scratched the back of his head. âI know we left you in a situation,â he glanced at you. He almost looked apologetic at calling you a situation, not that you were offended. Being called a situation was nice, it was almost a compliment considering you thought of yourself as an inconvenience and a burden to Mabel. âSo, I wanted to check in, make sure everythingâs okay?â
âWeâre fine,â Mabel rolled her eyes.
âNot to interrupt,â you said, hesitant to insert yourself into the conversation. âBut do you still have the drugs?â
Charlie looked at you nervously before nodding. âTheyâre back on the boat.â
âYou need to get rid of them. I appreciate you saving my life, but you really shouldnât have.â Charlie furrowed his brow at your words. âThe people I work with, they will kill you if they get word of you having the drugs or having found me alive.â
Charlieâs face paled, his mouth hanging open as he turned to Mabel for confirmation. âYou just got back,â she sighed. âYou probably havenât seen the news or heard yet.â
âHeard what?â he asked hesitantly.
âThe Scylla blew up a few days ago,â Mabel said with a humorless chuckle. âThere were no survivors. At least thatâs what the news is saying.â
Charlie looked at you with wide eyes, recognizing the name of your crews ship. âThey went back without the shipment,â you said with a shrug. âAnd now my whole crew is dead. The guys we worked for donât play when it comes to missing drugs. You need to get rid of them.â
Charlie nodded quickly, already backing up towards the door. âOkay, how? What-what should we do? Where-â
Charlie was cut off by a light knocking on the still open front door. Everyone tensed at the newcomer. You all turned to the door, Mabel went rigid, she put on a blank face as she stared at the older gentleman entering her apartment. Charlie also crossed his arms, puffing out his chest to make himself seem as big as possible as he stepped between the man and Mabel, cutting off the manâs line of sight to her. You looked at them, hoping someone would give away who this mysterious new guy was.
âSo, defensive,â the man said, not taking Charlie as a threat seriously. âMind calling your guard dog off?â he looked around Charlie at Mabel.
âWhat are you doing here?â Mabel asked, her voice cold. You had heard her annoyed and clearly unhappy at you for being in her apartment when you first woke up and youâd only known her about a week, but you never heard her so emotionless before.
âI came to check on my patient,â he said with a smile. He stepped around Charlie to get a good look at you. âHow are you feeling?â
âFine,â you said slowly, watching the man, your brow scrunched up. It seemed this man was the doctor Mabel had called to help patch you up when you were unconscious.
You remembered her saying he was in a similar line of business; you vaguely recognized him but had never done business with him before. He probably only worked with a few dealers and probably only operated with the higher-end products and clients. Despite the fact that she called the guy to help you, it was clear that she was not a fan of this man.
The doctor came over, lifting your bandage without asking permission. You tensed at the manâs cold fingers on your skin as he looked down at the wound. The man might have supposably been a doctor, but you didnât like anyone besides Mabel touching your bandages and poking around your wound. âItâs healing up nicely.â He replaced the bandage then turned back to Mabel, tossing her a little bottle. âRefill of pain meds.â He moved towards the door, leaning close to Mabel to whisper in her ear. âDonât worry, I already added them to your tab.â He smirked before making his way out the door.
You watched as Mabel stormed across her apartment, before she could slam the door in the doctorâs face, he placed his foot, stopping the door. He leaned back into the apartment, getting close to her face. âIf you canât afford it,â he said lowly. âThere are other ways.â His hand slid down the door until his fingers brushed over Mabels.
Mabel quickly recoiled from his touch, stepping back into her apartment, getting as far away from the man as possible. Charlie was quick to fill the gap, crossing the apartment in only a few strides. He flung the door open wider, standing tall as he stared down at the doctor. The doctor held up his arms and backed away. Charlie slammed the door shut, making sure to lock it so they didnât get any more uninvited guests.
The doctor had been speaking quietly but you had been close enough to hear him. Mabel owed the man, and it seemed like she owed him a lot. Based on the way he spoke to her after giving her the pain meds for you, you couldnât help but think that whatever price she owned this guy was because of you. Mabel hadnât said anything to you, but you couldnât be surprised, this doctor didnât seem like he did anything out of the kindness of his heart, so you doubted heâd save your life for free. You hated the idea of Mabel being indebted to that man because of you. It was your life that he saved, you deserved to pay the price, not Mabel who just got stuck dealing with you and your problems.
âWho was that?â you asked hesitantly.
âNobody,â Mabel said. She stormed across the apartment, entering and then slamming the door to the bathroom.
âWhat was that about?â you looked at Charlie.
âOh, you know Mabel,â he said, waving off Mabels reaction. âShe just-â
âNot her,â you were quick to correct him. âThat guy,â you nodded to the now closed front door. âI already have my suspicions, so please, donât lie to me.â
Charlie sighed, running a hand across his buzz cut. He looked at the bathroom door, making sure Mabel wasnât about to come back out before looking back down at you giving you a reluctant nod. âHeâs the doctor Mabel called, after we brought you here,â Charlie admitted, confirming your first suspicion. âHe told her she would owe him for saving your life,â he confirmed your second suspicion.
âDo you know how much?â
Charlie shook his head. âIâm guessing a lot. The guyâs a total dick,â he mumbled.
Before you could say anything else the bathroom door swung back open. Mabel now had a jacket on, and a bag slung over her shoulder. âLetâs go,â she said shoving Charlie in the shoulder as she made her way to the door.
âWhere?â he asked, turning to trail after her, despite not knowing where they were going.
âTo get the drugs.â She already had her hand on the doorknob.
âWait!â you said. âYouâre going with him? Itâs too dangerous.â You didnât want Charlie and his crew to be in danger either but Mabel going with him to the boat was adding an unnecessary level of danger.
âI know how to get rid of the drugs discreetly,â Mabel said. When she turned to look at you, she once again had that soft look in her eyes, but it was clear she was still annoyed from the interaction with the doctor.
âIâll go.â You knew that was an even worse idea, but you didnât want Mabel risking any more than she already had.
âNo,â she said softly. She moved away from the door but not close enough to be at your bedside again. âIâve done similar stuff before, trust me.â
âI donât like this.â You shook your head. âThe docks will be crawling with the bossesâ men, looking for any hint of their drugs.â
âThis is the only way,â Mabel sighed. âOr we could just leave the drugs on the boat until they set out again.â You clenched your jaw knowing she was right. You would love to wait for them to set out again, but you had to wait until they had a job otherwise it would be suspicious. You couldnât wait though because the longer the drugs sat on their boat the more there was a chance of them getting discovered. âWeâll be quick, I promise.â
âOkay,â you nodded reluctantly. âBe safe.â Mabel nodded with a smile before turning and walking out the front door. âCharlie!â you called, stopping him before he could close the door. âKeep an eye out, they will be there.â He gave you a grateful smile before closing the door.
You let your head flop back onto the bed, all your anxieties from the situation taking over your mind. You trusted Mabel, you trusted she knew what she was doing. You also knew what kind of men you worked for, what they were willing to do, to not only get their product back but to get information on where the product might be. You dropped hundreds of thousands of dollars into the ocean, they werenât going to just let that go, chalk it up as a loss and try again. So, you laid there, staring up at the ceiling, not able to focus on anything until they got back.
You even tried picking up the copy of The Odyssey that Mabel had brought you. Usually, the book brought you nothing but comfort, whenever you opened it, you would forget about the world and all your problems. Not this time though because this time you were the one stuck home while Mabel was the one going out to fight the monsters.

Day & Night III
Mabel (finestkind) x G!P Reader
Warnings: a bit smut, fluff, slight injuries, bruises, the greatest showman spoilers, bad translation?
A/N: new chapter :) I like where this is going to be honest. Iâm surprised myself what Iâm writing spontaneous. Letâs see how this all will end
Part 1, Part 2
Then again there was this wet but also soft feeling on my cheek. I moved my head to the side to see Mabel smiling while caressing my waist with the hand she had slowly and carefully slid around my figure. I was sort of confused but also half asleep, my mind wasn't working yet.
"Some part of you was already awake... I was waiting for you to fully wake up" she whispered before kissing my cheek very slow. My eyes closed because of the sensation I was receiving. The clicking sound of her lips on my cheek made me shiver over and over again. I felt like falling asleep right away.
Her hand slid carefully above my figure, passing my hurt ribs before moving her hand back to the center of my stomach.
"How you feeling y/n?" She whispered between kisses.
I didn't managed to open my eyes. I felt so secure and warm and didn't wanted to lose that feeling. In a sonorous way a sound left the back of my throat. I could feel Mabel smiling against my cheek when hushed she said "I meant your pain...".
Another wave of goosebumps went through my body when I managed to say with a dry voice "it's hurting...". Mabel sighed slight before I felt her body leaning over mine and I felt the weight taking out the air of my lungs. I quietly whined in pain and squeezed my eyes "sorry!" Mabel said with a lilting tone seeming to be worried for a sec.
I opened my eyes to see she was reaching for my night table. In the next moment the weight of her left my upper body and she supported herself on her arm as she held a glass of water in one hand and a pill in the other.
My eyes were half lidded when she gently put her finger tip on my lower lip and tried to make me open my mouth. My lip tingles when I slowly parted my lips "drink that" said Mabel still in a quiet way before putting the pill between my lips and holding the glass of water onto my lips. I raised my head slightly and swallowed it down with a few sips of water.
I let my head fall back into the pillow and sighed exhausted when Mabel had put the glass away. Her hand found her way back to my body where she slowly caressed my lower stomach while pushing my shirt slightly up.
In that moment I realized that I had been sleeping in the same clothes from yesterday. How would I even get changed? I asked my self but my thoughts were interrupted by another wet touch of Mabel's lips on my cheek. She moved her body closer to mine, almost snuggled herself up on my right side. I could feel the heat of her body and feel her pulse pounding slight against my arm. She began to kiss my cheek in a way more sensual way than before while her hand slipped suddenly into my pants, slightly brushing over my hard dick.
I breathed heavier, that was her signal to go further. So she began to kiss my neck and opened my pants properly before putting her hand in my boxers and getting a hold of my dick. I had goosebumps all over my body when my eyes fell shut again.
"You like me right?" Whispered Mabel against the skin of my neck. I swallowed hard and then her grip began to tighten around me. In a slow pace she began to move her hand up and down while putting pressure on different parts. I gasped slight and my head turned to the side making it easy for Mabel to crash her lips onto mine.
The kiss was gently and soft. Her tongue waiting for access. Her movements began to fasten and I breathed heavier through my mouth, which gave her the access to put her tongue into my mouth. I moaned muffled while she kept brushing her lips above mine, giving me the best handjob i could have imagined.
Everytime her hand reached my tip she tightened her grip around it. Slowly caressing the tip with her thumb when pre cum left me. Her kiss getting even more sensual before she whispered into my ear ârelax...â I shivered and buckled my hip up in need for more, feeling myself getting close.
I felt Mabel's grin on my neck when she began to move faster. I arched my back and winced in pain. "Wow... keep it slow y/n" she whispered teasing and began to use even more pressure. I gasped for air feeling myself coming any second now, Mabel seemed to notice because she slowed her movements down and used a constant tight grip around my dick that made me moan in pleasure. Her lips finding her way to my neck when I came right in her hand. I was panting now, feeling satisfied and overwhelmed. I felt Mabel's fingertips touching my sensitive tip, wiping the cum around and massaging me.
"How you feeling now?" She whispered with a grin I could feel. My chest was still rising up and down pretty fast when I tried to water my dry mouth before speaking "good...".
Mabel's touch left my dick and suddenly she moved carefully on top of me making sure to not hurt me "only good?" She whispered against my lips. I opened my eyes and was met with her dark ones again. The light of the lamp reflected in them so beautifully that I had put my hand slightly around her head, holding her face and caressing her cheek while looking at her with admiring and dreamy eyes.
âYou're so beautiful...â I began to think loud. I said it almost audible... Mabel for sure heard it. She smiled, there was always something about her smile I couldn't quite assign to. Was it warm? Caring? Flirty? Seductive? Or even happy and loving?
She leaned down before kissing me deep and long, stealing the rest of air from my lungs.
Later Mabel was gone. Said something about getting some groceries and doing something for college. I was a bit confused by that but tried to not think so much about it. When I looked at the clock, it was almost 5pm. Slowly I got up from my bed. Every muscle and for sure my rips still hurted.
The idea for not being able to do something heavy for at least 6 weeks was killing me. Slowly I took of my clothes as good as I could. Thanks to Mabel I only had to take off my sweatshirt and boxers.
Very slowly and carefully I went to the shower. I had a chest bandage on to keep my rips steady. I didn't cared about that. All I wanted was a warm shower now.
So I stepped slowly into the shower and leaned on the wall when I turned it on and waited for the water to get warm. As soon as I felt the steam rising around my naked body I turned the shower head and closed my eyes. Enjoying the warm water hitting my tense muscles. I breathed steady through my mouth. Turning my back to the water so it would hit me at the right places.
After showering I had put on my lounge wear. Some cozy joggers from puma. Somehow I had pretty many clothes like that but never wore them since I always walked around in jeans or a bit overdressed general. But with my injuries I guess I had a reason to wear them now. I was sitting on the edge of my bed trying to put on an oversized sweater I had. When I suddenly heard keys entering my lock i looked confused and slightly scared to the living room through my bedroom door hoping to see who it was and to somehow react.
The door fell shut, keys were sliding over a table and I heard the rumbling of Paper?
I kept looking through the crack when I suddenly recognized Mabel figure opening the door to my bedroom properly.
I looked at her even more confused and asked "how did you get in here?" Mable had a smirk on lips when she walked towards me and moved her fingers through my slight wet hair saying "I took your keys before leaving".
Why did she do that? And why was she back... so fast?
I kept looking at her confused as hell while wearing my sweater with only one arm in the sleeve. Mabel chuckled "couldn't you wait till I was back? You could have hurt yourself" carefully she helped me to put my left arm through the sleeve.
"Go dry your hair I'll cook something meanwhile" she said softly caressing my bruised cheek before leaving the bedroom.
I looked after her
"O- okay...?" I whispered to myself and carefully went to the bathroom to dry my hair. After drying it I made my way to the living room that was attached to the kitchen. The TV was on and the greatest showman was playing quietly while Mabel was in the kitchen and doing whatever. I looked around and saw my keys lying on my desk, beside them were a laptop and some college stuff. Not mine so I assumed it was Mabel's? When I turned and looked to the kitchen counter I saw that there was a bag on the couch.
Bag with clothes? Mabel's clothes?
I tried to look over the counter to see what Mabel was cooking but I didn't managed to do that. I saw a few paper bags on the other side of the kitchen. Looked like groceries. What was going on? I asked myself and began to look around even more confused. A chuckle brought me back and my eyes met Mabel's. She had her hair together in a messy bun âyou're looking a bit lost over there...â she said and kept cooking. The smell of the food reached my nose and it reminded me of the smell of bolognese.
"Sit down... food is almost done" she said.
I decided to ask no questions and sat down on the couch instead of the table so I could watch the movie. It was in the middle of the summer why was it even playing? For me was the greatest showman something like a Christmas movie. I watched totally focused the scene where Hugh Jackman's character began to sing "a million dreams" on top of rooftops with his family.
"Can you believe that I haven't seen the movie so yet?" Chuckled Mabel when she climbed over the couch, sat down beside me with two plates of Spagetti in her hands.
"Well I mean... it's not a type of movie you watch" I began while Mabel gave me my plate, already eating from her own. After swallowing the noddles down she laughed and covered her mouth with her hand.
"You're right... but I used to find Zac Efron pretty attractive... and hey Zendaya is in it."
I couldn't help but laughed and looked back to the tv. After a few seconds I looked at the plate in my hand and began to eat the noddles carefully. When the song was almost finished Mabel said "I think I knew that song..." I chuckled and looked at her, her sparkling pitch black eyes meeting mine "what?" She asked and shrugged her shoulders.
"The songs were trending all over the Internet and playing in the radios... you'll know a few... trust me" I said and she nudged slight my shoulder before turning the attention back to the tv. So we kept watching the movie and I had the pleasure to listen to every comment Mabel made. The movie surprised and shocked her at so many ways that it was just adorable. And everytime they began to sing in the movie Mabel said "I know that one!" It was already the third time she said that and I couldn't help but laugh. I ate the last piece on my plate and put the now empty plate on the coffee table right beside Mabel.
"Thank you" I said quite to appreciate Mabel for cooking. Without looking at her I wiped the corner of my mouth "your welcome" she said softly and I felt her staring at me so I looked a bit shy at her and then she reached out with her hand and wiped my chin "there was some more sauce" she said, her eyes piercing mine before she let go of my chin smiling cute.
I looked down shyly and said almost in a whisper âthank you...â I looked back to the tv while Mabel whispered âyou're welcome...â
It was quiet for a moment and my eyes widened in excitement "you will love this one... I get goosebumps hearing that every time!". The scene where Rebecca Ferguson performed "never enough" as her character came on.
I leaned back to get a bit comfortable and watched the scene in awe. Listening to the scene, seeing the emotions and tension. The way all characters were totally taking by the performance. "You'll see P.T the circus director falling so hard for her performance, it's so beautiful... first you'll think it's love, Attraction and you will think he'll cheat on his wife later but! He won't... he loves his wife. He was just with his heart fully in her performance... and I just spoiled you like hell....shitâ I said totally in excitement. I tried to calm down âanyway just watch it...â I said then with a wide smile and watched the scene in full awe.
What y/n didn't saw was the way Mabel watched her in full admiration watching the scene she just had described to her. While watching y/n and hearing the song lyrics
All the shine of a thousand spotlights. All the stars we steal from the night sky. Will never be enough. Never be enough. Towers of gold are still too little. These hands could hold the world but it'll. Never be enough. Never be enough. For me. Never, never. Never, never. Never, for me. For me. Never enough. Never enough. Never enough. For me. For me. For me
Mabel indeed understood what you meant. But she understood it in the perspective of the director while watching you. She had goosebumps all over her body and looked almost scared, shocked of the things she felt towards you when the realization hit her.
She looked to the screen and saw it herself. It was playing in front of her like a movie how she felt for you⊠even tho the lyrics had no romantic meaning but the way it was performed it made her spine shiver and heart beat faster. She felt the heat rising in her cheeks watching the woman almost crying while singing. The director watching her in full awe and admiration while his wife watched him, scared to lose him. And then Mabel realized she wasnât the director⊠she was the wife⊠the wife who watched the love of her life instead of the performer during that song.
After the scene finished I looked at Mabel with a wide grin. Surprised to see her eyes all shiny and wet? I chuckled "did I promise to much?" Mabel sniffed slight and tried to look away while chuckling "no... no you didn't".
âAnd there's more to come...â I said and looked back to the tv. Mabel suddenly moved closer and snuggled herself up on me, her head lying on my shoulder while watching the movie with me.
A gentle smile was on my lips when I nudged her head gently with my nose before looking back to the movie.
Never enough... yeah. I would never... have enough of you I though in my head

Chapter 1: Bite Me
series masterlist
Mabel really, really, doesnât want to be doing this right now.
Thereâs at least five other things she could be doing right now, but no, sheâs doing the one thing she swore sheâd never do again.
Is this rock bottom? It has to be.
Charlie, whoâs sat in the passenger, has been prodding her with question after question since she told him she knows someone who might be able to help them.
Itâs not that sheâs dodging his questions per se, but she isnât entirely sure how to answer them either.
Theyâre in deep shit right now, no thanks to her, and the predicament reminds Mabel just why she doesnât stick her neck out for strangers anymore. Not that Charlie is exactly a stranger, she is sort of sleeping with him, and he is sort of her boyfriend.
But this? This is a bit much, even for her, which is why it puts a bitter taste in Mabelâs mouth knowing who sheâs having to turn to for help.
In their defense, itâs not like the guys signed up to get a hundred thousand grand worth of heroin stolen from them. Tom had accused her of being the one who ratted them out, which wasnât true, so she had to act fast.
Being a snitch around here can get you killed, rumors can get you killed.
Thereâs only one person who stood any chance to helping her put out this dumpster fire.
And when she pulls up in front of a house on the more secluded side of town, Mabel feels the ache in her chest at the familiar porch steps. That swing, the unkept bushes out front, even from where sheâs parked the car on the road she can spot a few beer cans littering the wooden rail.
Seems like nothing has changed at all.
â-Mabelâ.
Her eyes snap to Charlie, whoâs already looking at her, heâs probably been saying her name for a good minute now based on the confused and worried expression on his face.
He let his brother trash on her at the bar, even when he said he believed her, Mabel was righteously pissed at him for not standing up for her. But, that aside, she agree to let him come with her for this.
Charlie is a good guy, a great guy even. Thereâs something there without a doubt, and Mabel is fairly sure she could grow to be in love with him. She could be happy even, considering all the opportunity having him around will bring.
Is it wrong? Maybe. But Mabel promised herself sheâd get out of this goddamn town, away from everything tainted and poisoned.
And for what itâs worth, she actually does like Charlie.
First, unfortunately for her, sheâll have to figure out how to get them out of something that was suppose to help them.
A hand on hers makes her snap out of her thoughts again, Charlie says her name again, softly. But she instinctively pulls away, because she canât, not when that house sits just over his shoulder out the window behind him.
âSorry, just uh⊠itâs a lotâ is what she says, and he nods, trying to reassure her with his softly spoken words, but Mabel tunes them out.
She canât help it, not when her eyes keep getting drawn to that paint chipped black door, and the familiar car parked in the open garage to the left of it.
Has it really been a year?
âLetâs just get this over withâ Mabel mutters, cutting the engine and pushing the drivers side door open far too aggressively.
All she can hear as she walks along the path and up the porch steps is her own heartbeat slowly increasing, fidgeting with her fingers at her sides.
She doesnât knock, she never did before and she wonât start now. Charlie splutters behind her, glancing around with wide eyes as if expecting law enforcement to roll up, Mabel doesnât wait for him as she makes her way through the threshold.
It almost relieves her when she doesnât smell that distinct linger of Mary Jane in the air, but Mabel steels herself, reminds herself what happens here isnât her problem anymore.
Finally she pushes herself forward, wooden floorboards creaking under her boots as she makes her way deeper into the house that was once the closest thing to home Mabel ever had.
It hurts, how much she misses it here. The worn leather couch, the framed movie posters lining the walls, the tv stand she knows has drawers full of CDâs with a variety of film genres. A line of conch shells along the windowsill, those same windows that always stay cracked open to allow in the sound of ocean off in the distance.
And then she reaches the study.
There you are, back to her as you seem to be reorganizing the books on the shelf you face, even then Mabel knows you heard her walk in.
You donât turn until she wraps her knuckle against the doorframe, hesitantly stepping into the study, itâs only then when she realizes Charlie had followed her inside. Stepping up next to her, his eyes on you with a mixture of curiosity and wariness.
When you do face her, it takes everything in her not to buckle, those eyes never fail to make her chest ache.
She fucking hates it.
âHey sunshineâ you say softly, as if you cherish the long lost nickname rolling off your tongue after so long.
âLuckyâ Mabel says flatly, bitterly.
You smile, widely, almost charmingly. Mabel glares, unrelenting and jaw muscle twitching as she clenches her teeth.
Your gaze then goes to Charlie, but rather than any emotion Mabel assumes youâd express, you only look amused.
âLooks like you took my adviceâ you say as you look back to Mabel, who only feels bile start to work its way up her throat.
âThatâs not funny, nor anywhere near trueâ Mabel deadpans, which makes you shrug, smile only growing as you slide the book in your hand back on to the shelf before turning to face them fully.
Charlie looks between you two, once and then again, âyou two close?â he tries to gauge the dynamic as he shifts his weight from one foot to the next.
Mabelâs head tilts just slightly, rolling her eyes as her thumb comes up to scratch the space between her eyebrows.
âUse to beâ you answer since she doesnât, tucking your hands into your jean pockets âback in the dayâ.
Mabel is silent, jaw slightly offset as she runs her tongue along her teeth in her mouth, âCharlie can you give us a minute?â she says as her gaze lingers on you before dropping to the floor. Watching him from her peripheral over her shoulder.
Charlie laughs humorlessly, mouth quirking up only to fall the moment she turns her head to shoot him a look. He looks ready to protest, eyes flickering between the two of you before deflating slightly, sneakers squeaking against the wood as he begins to walk backwards.
The moment heâs out of the room, you trail after him, pausing at the door and then slowly pushing it until only a slight crack remains between it and the frame.
âWhatâve you got yourself into now?â You ask as you turn to head back across the room, your shoulder brushing against hers as you pass.
On purpose? Absolutely.
âNowâs not the time to be grilling meâ Mabel says flatly, crossing her arms as you move to sit back against the desk behind you, a sight that once use make her knees weak.
You hum, fingers curled around the edge of the desk as you lean your weight back against your palms âyou wouldnât have come here otherwise, am I wrong?â
âGod, you really havenât changed at all, still thinking that you know everythingâ.
âI think you forget just how well I do know youâ.
âYou donât know me anymore-â
âAnd yet here you areâ you say lowly, one corner of your mouth tugging up slightly as you add âitâs good to see youâ.
Those words are like blowing dust off an old record, sat on a turntable, needle being rested down as the familiar melody begins to repeat itself again. A song Mabel has tried to forget the tune to, but with you, itâs her guilty pleasure.
A lapse of silence falls between the two of you, and as much as the words taste like battery acid coming out of her mouth, Mabel says them anyways.
You are, after all, the only person she fully trusts in a hundred mile radius. Even after everything.
âI need your helpâ.
You tense slightly, because of course you wouldnât tease her for this, why would you? Mabel asking for help is the equivalent of watching pigs fly.
âFuck Mabel, whatâve you gotten yourself into?â
Mabel clenches her jaw, looking away from you, wondering exactly how she was going to not only break this to you. But also how she was going to convince you to help once you knew the extent of the current predicament.
âListen, I was just trying to help the guys and I understand being desperate for cash, and Charlie thought-â
You push off the desk, standing up straight which has Mabelâs eyes going back to you. Youâre looking at her like you already know, and sheâd be more surprised if you didnât.
âItâs Weeksâ she whispers, shifting her weight nervously before forcing her head up high, feigning a collected aura.
âWe owe him a hundred thousand for losing a deliveryâ.
And then there it is, that familiar look of irritation, âgoddamn it Mabel- itâs like what I did meant nothing to you? Unfuckingbelivable-â
You walk right past her, ripping the door to your study open, wood groaning under your quick steps.
Mabel is right behind you, not even sparing Charlie a glance as you both pass where heâs stood in the living room, pretending to keep himself busy until the loud burst of voices pulls his attention.
âDonât you fucking start with me, I never asked you to do that, and the fact you still hold it against me-â
â-that isnât what I hold against you and you know it-â
â-you shouldnât hold anything against me considering the bullshit YOU pulled-â
The screen door cracks against the frame as you shove through the front door of the house, Mabel catches it mid bounce and slips through after you. It smacks the frame again, Charlie not being as smooth as he tries to keep up with you both.
âFor the millionth time, I was honest with you from the start, are we seriously going to have this fucking conversation now-â
â-youâre the one who caught a goddamn attitude with me, when I was trying to be reasonable-â
You laugh humorlessly, shooting her a look of disbelief over your shoulder as you opt out the stairs of the porch, slipping over the railing off to the side instead. âYou? Reasonable? Get the fuck out of here with that shit.â
Mabel is quick to go around, catching up with you just as you reach the garage, rounding the vehicle just as you tug the passenger side door open âyou keep fucking talk to me like that Iâll shove my foot so far up your ass-â
âYo! Where are we going?â Charlie calls as he finally catches up, rounding the house and standing at the open of the garage, hands cupped around his mouth to get both your attention.
âNot you pretty boy-â you point a finger at him, your other hand still gripping the top of the door of the vehicle, Mabel scoffs and smacks your arm hard before digging into her jacket pocket for her keys.
âGo to home, Iâll have Lucky drop me off afterâ Mabel says as she tosses the keys to Charlie, he fumbles them slightly, looking between them in his hand and the two of you just as Mabel slips into the car.
âWhat-â
âNot. You. Go homeâ you say warningly, a look in your eyes that leaves no room for argument as you give the passenger door a shove to shut it behind her.
He steps in front of you as you round the hood, eyes hard and chest puffed, heâs got a good foot on you but even then you just gaze up at him with a subtle smug expression.
âIâm not a child, and thatâs my girlfriend youâre taking off with, Iâm coming-â
âYour girlfriend?â You say with a laugh, which only makes the muscle in his jaw twitch as he clenches his teeth. You look through the windshield at Mabel whoâs actively trying to act like she canât see this confrontation happening.
âSheâs came to me, so I can help you clean up your fucking mess, do me a favor and donât make this worse than you already haveâ you say as you casually reach forward to give his chest a firm pat, pushing him out of your way as you head for the driver side door.
âWhich youâre welcome for, by the way. Donât worry yourself too much, Iâll have her home by her curfewâ you say as you shoot him a wink, tugging the door open and dropping into the driver seat.
He takes a few steps back and out of the way as you start up the engine, the rumble coming from it loud from the confined space of the garage.
Mabel keeps her eyes out the passenger window, looking at nothing specific, arms crossed and stubborn grimace etched into her sharp features.
âDo you want him to come?â
A pause of silence, her shoulders tensing just slightly, âjust goâ.
You donât offer another word, shifting the car into gear and slamming the gas. The tires screech as you cut the steering, pulling on to the road and fishtailing the back wheels as you speed down the road.
Itâs quiet for a solid three minutes, itâs a bit strange, the both of you being back here. Where it all started.
âFill me in so I know what Iâm working withâ you say as you slowly release your death grip on the wheel, the white in your knuckles easing as you flex your fingers.
Mabel takes a deep breath in, propping her elbow up on the car door and pinching the bridge of her nose.
But she does fill you in, briefly explaining to you how sheâd met Charlie and then found out they needed quick cash to get their fishing vessel âFinestkindâ back from the coast guard, fishing illegally in Canadian waters or something.
They needed money, she put them in contact with Weeks and he gave them a job, a job that was a bust. Considering they got jumped and robbed of all the product.
âIâm surprised he didnât tell youâ Mabel says after a lapse of silence, you hum and chew the inside of your cheek.
âYeah, well, he knows better by now not to mention anything to me involving youâ you say bluntly, twisting your neck side to side and easing at the satisfying pops.
That makes her scoff, keeping her gaze out the window âcommitting arson to get laid definitely wasnât your best momentâ.
âSays a lot more about you for sleeping with me than it says about my pyromaniac tendenciesâ you say pointedly, which begins to pull a genuine laugh out of Mabel. But sheâs quick to cover it, opting to shoot you a glare and swinging her arm out to hit your chest.
You bat her hand away, and then your eyes lock, the both of you clearly fighting back a smile.
âPlease fucking pay attention to the road, before you get us killedâ Mabel deadpans, looking between you and the windshield as she gestures towards it.
You roll your eyes, shaking your head but doing as she asks as, muttering a âbite meâ under your breath.
____________________________________________
âI canât guarantee heâll listenâ.
You push the passenger door shut as she slips out of it, both of your gazes on the familiar building ahead.
âNo, but youâre the only person heâll hear outâ.
The Supreme Donut shop, for reasons you still donât know, is his stomping ground. The donuts arenât even that good, but who are you to speak on it.
As the two of you approach, you open the door for her and follow her in. The donut shop is a clichĂ©, but itâs nice. Red booth chairs and white tables, wide windows for all the natural light you could ever need, tile floors and the smell of freshly brewed coffee lingering in the air. You step around Mabel just as you spot Marky and Weeks sitting across from each other eating. Their usual table, you arenât surprised. Talking quietly to one another, but when they see you they regard you with familiarity.
âWeâve been trying to call you, where you been?â Weeks begins, but when he spots Mabel as she steps around from behind you, the sight of you two side by side pulls a laugh of disbelief from him.
âDid hell freeze over? Or did Marky slip something into my coffeeâ Weeks jokes, dusting the crumbs off his hands as he glances to his older brother, whoâs quiet but has a gleam of amusement in his eyes.
âWe came to talk to you about the shipment her people went out to grabâ you say smoothly, tucking your hands into your jean pockets as you roll back on to your heels.
His eyes go from you to Mabel, a hum of acknowledgement as he leans back into his seat, rubbing the gruff of his chin before pointing at her âwe was about to come have a nice chat with you, your ears mustâve been burningâ.
âThe crew got robbed by fake cops, Tom got his ass kicked by these guysâ Mabel starts to explain, âall Iâm asking is you hear them out before doing anything that could get someone hurt-â
âOf course Iâll take your word for it. After being such a help for me? But that doesnât exempt the guys from being reckless with my productâ Weeks says as he weaves his fingers together and rests him on his stomach, eyes lacking remorse as he props his feet up in the chair in front of him.
âCâmon Weeks, be fucking for real for a secondâ you say as you pull the chair out from under his feet, his eyes snap to you as you sit down in it.
âYou of all people understand needing money to take care of your people, we all do, they canât help it they got mugged. Give them a chance to work the shit out before you go killing peopleâ you say quietly, holding his gaze with your own serious yet convincing one.
He stares unwaveringly at first, he and Marky exchanging a look before he takes a deep breath, chest deflating as his eyes return to yours.
âAlright, but if these jokers fuck me over, itâs your head on a platterâ Weeks says as he locks his eyes with yours, without looking away he gestures to Mabel behind you.
âHers too, and this time there is no forgiving or forgetting, no matter who you are to me or what all youâve done for meâ.
You hold your ground, neither of you looking away from each other. But then Mabel is muttering your name under her breath behind you, and your clenched jaw relaxes slightly.
âThanks for your cooperationâ you say as you give his leg a sharp pat, standing and beginning to walk away.
âI think I miss you two being together, you were always so much more tolerable when your bitch had you on a leashâ.
It shouldâve been expected, he always enjoys getting a rile out of you, which is why he doesnât flinch when you spin on your heel to face him again.
âDonât push it, Luckyâ, but then Mabel is in front of you, hands on your chest and pushing you towards the door.
âGo. OUTâ.
You hold his malicious gaze until sheâs got you out the door, swatting her hands away as you beeline for your car.
âHey, hey! Stop!â
âYou got what you want, alright?! So donât try and act like you give a shitâ you snap as you wheel on her, but as always sheâs matching you with an unwavering intensity.
Mabel steps forward, her gaze locked to yours, her entire body is tense and her face stoic.
âStop acting so cold to me.â
âYouâre one to talkâ you hiss through your teeth, your gaze going back to the building youâd just walked out of, heart pounding unnecessarily fast in your chest. Not out of anger towards her, but out of something you wonât name: fear.
Mabel lets out a frustrated sigh, her shoulders visibly rising and falling, something is different about her reaction to your harsh demeanor. Sheâs normally snarky and cold right back but now she just seems⊠conflicted.
âItâs different with you and you know it, donât try and pull that bullshit on me.â
You clench your teeth, still glaring at the building as if you have a personal vendetta with those walls rather than the individuals within youâd both just confronted.
âYou donât have the right to say that anymoreâ you mutter under your breath, forcing your eyes to hers, the unspoken year apart between you suddenly becomes loud.
Mabelâs body tenses once more, her jaw set and her eyes are a mixture of hurt and anger. Everything changes in the tone of her voice, going from snappy and annoyed to tired.
âDonât make this about that. That- that was months ago.â Her voice is shaky but stern, her hands clenching and unclenching at her sides.
Itâs not a wonder why this conversation is suddenly diverting towards digging up the past, every single one you two have always seems to lead to it.
Probably because so much of it was left unanswered and unfinished.
You cover the emotions her words bring with a hard expression, eyes sharp as you turn away from her to walk towards the car again.
âThen youâll be fine when I drop you off at your new pretty and rich boyfriendâs placeâ.
Mabelâs expression falters further at your words, her body tensing even more, face falling as you turn your back to her and start walking.
âHeâs not my boyfri-â Mabel canât even finish that sentence as she begins to speed walk next to you, trying to get you to stop as a mixture of anger and⊠something else start to bubble deep in her chest.
âHeâs under the impression he isâ you say as you grab the car door, unlocking it and pulling it open, refusing to look at her.
Mabel follows you to the car but she doesnât get inside, she grabs the window frame to block you from doing so, trying to get you to look at her âstop acting like you care who Iâm dating.â
âYou know damn fucking well I doâ you hiss, shoving the car door shut, yanking it free from her grasp in effect as you fully turn to face her, âand donât pull that bullshit on me considering you came to me for helpâ.
âYou say that but then you give me the silent treatment every time you see me around town, itâs childishâ Mabel retorts, getting in your face, her breath coming out as shaky, and her teeth clenched.
âAnd donât even try to pull that bullshit card. You know I couldnât have not come to you for helpâ.
âWell youâre clear now, have your boy to get his fucking shit together because Weeks wonât give him weeks to make up for what he lostâ you tell her sternly, chest rising and falling from your short cut breaths.
Mabel rolls her eyes, feeling like this conversation is clearly going nowhere. She steps closer, leaning into your personal space, her hands curling into tight fists at her sides.
âStop being a prick and stop acting like you know whatâs good for me. I asked for your help, what I didnât ask for was your input on my relationshipâ.
âI do know whatâs good for you, thatâs exactly why I told you months ago that you needed a rich daddyâs boy since Iâm clearly only what you need when you need itâ you say lowly, eyes hard and full of unspoken emotion.
Tension fills the little space between the two of you, a chemistry you both use to bask in, but now itâs only suffocating.
Your words sting with a truth that Mabel canât deny. And it only makes the mixture of anger and sadness bubbling in her chest all the more intense. She feels like drowning, a feeling thatâs only reserved for you, or maybe she never got over it. Mabelâs jaw clenches once more and her eyes are full of fire as she stares back at you.
âYou always have something to say, donât you? You donât get to just give me fucking financial advice and then judge my goddamn relationship months after we broke upâ.
âSo you are only dating him for what heâs offeringâ you laugh, shaking your head as you round the car, heading for the passenger side.
Mabelâs face falls, and a pang of guilt runs through her. Why is that your first thought?
Mabel scoffs, following behind you.
âNo! Itâs not like that, itâs more complicated than that.â
You say nothing, holding her gaze as you open the passenger door for her. So many unspoken things linger in the air, you both know each other far too well, two sides of a coin you use to say.
Too similar, too different, too hot-headed, too compatible.
Your eyes cut to the car, then back to her, indicating she get in.
Mabel stays quiet and just stares back at you for moment. She can practically see the thoughts working through your head. You two always have been a mirrored image, and Mabel hates it because it makes it easy for you both to read one another.
Itâs why you worked, and why you didnât.
Mabel wants to say something, but a voice in the back of her head tells her to just get in the car, this is a fight she wonât win today.
Not that she can blame you, itâs not like you know the full extent of the truth behind what happened back then.
For now at least, considering how bad things are looking right now, it may only be a matter of time. You are helping her after all, she isnât sure if youâll hate her more or less if you were to find out the truth.
Mabel finally relents, getting into the passenger seat of the car, and as always you close the door behind her.
You truly shouldnât be doing this for her, Mabel shouldâve just dealt with the consequences, this is her mess.
Somewhere, deep within the confines of her chest cavity where her heart beats under the cage of bones surrounding it, she knows the truth.
To her you were a compass, a guide and martyr, her salvation that kept her grounded.
But Jesus fucking Christ, now youâre the biggest pain in her ass.
next.
