Day 4/100 - 100 days of productivity 🕊️

🕊️ I prepared breakfast for my family. After we ate, we went to church. Earlier, I convinced my younger sister to wear the dress I bought her. I lent her my hair bow. After mass, I had coffee with my family.

🕊️ I went to a Metallica concert with my brother. Luckily, we didn't have to arrive early and wait in line because we had assigned seats in the stands.

We saw Ice Nine Kills for the second time. This time they had more space to perform, and it turned out really well.

After them, Five Finger Death Punch performed. So much energy, I enjoyed it, although my brother complained that they had excessive drumming.

Metallica was AWESOME (even though they didn't play any of my fav songs... I thought they would play Unforgiven at least...) - intro was beautiful, very moving. Kirk slayed as always. Rob slayed singing Maanam in Polish. Again, Kirk slayed. Kirk was rizzing and slaying all the time.

72 Seasons album opinion + my experience at M72 Tour in Madrid

72 Seasons is the eleventh studio album by the American heavy metal band Metallica, released on April 14, 2023. This album marks the band's first full-length release since 2016's "Hardwired... to Self-Destruct," as a collaborative effort between the band members and producer Greg Fidelman, who also worked on their previous album.

In this album we can observe a great growth in the band's music production, as we can appreciate Metallica's signature sound, blending thrash metal with elements of hard rock and progressive metal. It features heavy riffs, complex arrangements and powerful vocals, which show a vast development and maturity of their musical skills. From the first track, titled as the album, to the last one, Inamorata, we can notice the great energy transmitted with their powerful intros. 

This album also has a meaning. The title "72 Seasons" refers to the first 18 years of a person's life, a period that significantly shapes who they become. The album delves into themes of childhood, personal growth, and the lasting impact of early experiences. I believe this also has a symbolic meaning that shows the transformation Metallica has had through the years.

The album generally received positive reviews from critics, who mostly praised James Hetfield's lyrics and vocal performance but criticized the album's song length and some repetitive song parts. 

72 Seasons received three nominations at the 66th Grammy Awards, winning Best Metal Performance for the title track 72 Seasons.

In my view, 72 Seasons had influence from their previous album mentioned before, because they already have a firm model of song structure, with similar riffs, rhythms and vocals.

My favorite songs in this album are 72 Seasons, Screaming Suicide and Shadows Follow. Overall I enjoy this album because of their mature and perfect technique when playing their instruments and vocals, they have great harmony and strength. I would give this album a 9, only because of the repetitive parts in some songs. However in live these songs don't feel long at all, on contrary, they feel short.

On November 28, 2022, Metallica announced the album's title, release date, tracklist and a promotional tour of North America and Europe, featuring Pantera, Five Finger Death Punch and Architects among others, titled the M72 World Tour, and I had the honor to assist the M72 Tour in Madrid, at the Civitas Metropolitano Stadium. The concert lasted 3 hours divided on two days, 12th and 14th July 2024. 

Both concerts had amazing visuals on stage screens for those who couldn’t see the members close enough, but even so I felt so close to them, because they really were playing for the crowd, giving a very comfortable and friendly environment. I’d like to highlight that both events started with the song The Ecstasy of Gold from the film The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, a moment that reminded me of Enter Sandman live in Moscow in 1991, the first video I saw from Metallica when I was 7 and moreover the largest concert in metal history. But we must not forget that the most important thing is how beautifully and dedicatedly they performed both concerts, which consisted in five songs from  72 Seasons, Ride the Lighting and Metallica, four songs from the Master of Puppets album, two songs from Reload, …And Justice for All, Kill ‘Em All and Death Magnetic, the unexpected song King of Nothing from the Load album and my personal favorite of the night, Moth Into Flame from Hardwired… To Self-Destruct.

This concert is something I'll never experience again, and I must say, 12th and 14th July 2024 will be forever the happiest days of my life, that’s why I’m writing this.

v12: an internal combustion engine, usually of the gasoline-fueled spark-plug-ignition four-stroke variety, with twelve cylinders arranged in two sets/banks/rows of six with a (typically) 60-degree V angle between them.

bmw: Bayerische Motoren Werke, Bavarian Motor Works, the German car company

sohc: Single OverHead Camshaft. Each cylinder head that bolts on top of the pistons in the engine’s main “block” contains one camshaft, a metal rod with bumps on it that push open the valves as it spins half the speed of the crankshaft to let gases in/out of the cylinder and complete the four-stroke combustion cycle. Usually centrally mounted atop the head and uses rocker arms to actuate one intake valve and one exhaust valve for every cylinder of the engine. BMW’s early V12s and some inline-6s used this design. Example:

dohc: Dual OverHead Camshaft. Instead of one camshaft actuating both the intake and exhaust valves, there are two camshafts mounted directly above the sets of valves, separating intake from exhaust. This usually coincides with using two intake valves and two exhaust valves for each cylinder, and a centrally located spark plug. The vast majority of modern automobile engines use this design, as it allows for significant airflow and control over the timing of valve movements that greatly affect combustion. Example:

24v: a twelve cylinder engine with two valves per cylinder, for a total of twenty four

48v: a twelve cylinder engine with four valves per cylinder, for a total of forty eight

m70: the engine family code name for the single-overhead-cam 24-valve v12 engines that bmw made from 1987 to 1996

m72: the engine family code name for the dual-overhead-cam 48-valve v12 engines that bmw developed into a prototype but didn’t bring into production in the 90s

m73: the engine family code name for the single-overhead-cam 24-valve v12 engines that bmw made from 1993 to 2002

n73: the engine family code name for the dual-overhead-cam 48-valve v12 engines that bmw made from 2003 to 2016. These engines had the added complexity of the “Valvetronic” system that would vary the distance that the intake valves would open (effectively replacing the throttle plate), as well as having high-pressure direct-injection of fuel into the cylinder/combustion chamber instead of conventional low-pressure intake port injection.

me just now finding out that in the early 90s(?) bmw developed a dohc 48v v12 called the m72 to replace their sohc 24v m70 v12, but canceled it because it supposedly had too much nvh for a luxury car and made the sohc m73 v12 instead:

we could have had a normal dohc bmw v12.

before all the direct injected variable valve lift nonsense of the n73 happened in 2003.

but no.

1941 BMW R71 | Germany 🇩🇪 The first thing I want to write is that R71 the legendary #BMW top model with a 750cc engine became the basis for the Soviet military #M72, which distant successor of which is still being produced. And this statement should be the end of the article. But, “the devil is in the details.” The German motorcycle, presented to the public at an exhibition in Berlin in 1938, remained an “unattainable standard” for its Soviet counterpart.

Serial production of the motorcycle was launched in 1938 and lasted only 3 years, until 1941. Technically difficult, the #R71 gave the impression of a very simple machine – thanks to the high-quality standards and the tremendous work that engineers and designers put into the new line of their motorcycles.

In the military training camps of the Wehrmacht we could find both models – the simpler BMW R12, which had been in service for several years, and now the conditionally “tourist” R71, which was equipped with a more perfect and lighter frame with variable section tubes, soft rear suspension, and more powerful 22 hp engine with a compression ratio of 5.5:1. Nevertheless, despite the obvious advantages, the R71 didn’t become a bestseller. The army needed a low production cost instead of a machine with a high-class manufacturing accuracy and one of the most advanced, but expensive frames on the market offering high comfort.

The BMW R71 became the last side-valve motorcycle in the history of the Bavarian brand and the last one that could be equipped with a hand gear lever at the request of the buyer.

A total of 3458 R71 motorcycles were produced, most of which were destroyed in the war.
