Unless I've mistook something, I've just started watching Hulu's Great Expectations, and I'm annoyed at the opening scene implying the Pip would try to hang himself.

That never happened in the book. I know it's been a hot second since I read the book, but I don't recall him ever attempting something like that.

The thing about jonmartin is that Martin wants to be a romantic, he loves poetry and probably watches romance but for him it is a fantasy, a silly game he plays. Martin is at his core very cynical. Things don't work out for him so he doesn't really belive in romance, it is a pretty dream but that's it. He is pratical and realist. Dating Jon he has to remind himself it is real and he actually struggles with romantic gestures, it is something he has to remind himself to do, to remind himself he can do even and honestly who even has the energy and what if Jon doesn't even like it?

Jon on the other hand wants to be cynical. His first coping mechanism was pretend the things he was afraid of weren't real and goddam if he isn't afraid of love. It didn't really work to him so far so it's easy to pretend he doesn't care. But he is a romantic at heart. He saw love and he read about it and he has enough evidence that it is undeniable. And to be honest Jon was always to much a bunch of mushy feelings hidden in a grumpy (and bitter and afraid) trench coat. Dating Martin he has to hold himself so he isn't too much. He plays the grumpy unromantic guy at first. But he just can't stop giving flowers and planing dates (this is the guy that saw a theme park on a fear domain and considered how he wanted to take Martin to a romantic ferris whell date [until he discovered Martin was afraid of them]) and making all the silly things one does when in love.

TR: Martin is deep down very cynical about love but wants to/pretends to be a romantic and Jon is deep down very romantic but wants to/pretends to be cynical about love.

Danny In All His Sleep Deprived Slightly Scuffed Up From A Fight Glory Is On His Way To Clockworks Tower To Hopefully Get A Nap And Maybe Some Homework Done When A Natural Portal Opens Up In Front Of Him And Proceeds To Unceremoniously Drop Him In The DC Verse Just Outside Of Central City Before Promptly Closing Leaving A Tired Danny Behind In A Run Down Abandoned Parking Lot.

It's Times Like This When Danny Regrets Putting Off Learning How To Make His Own Portals, Cause Now He Is Very Much Stuck For The Foreseeable Future And He Has No Idea Where Or When He Is. Luckily For Him However Central City Isn't Too Far Away, Unlucky For Him However Is That Once In The City He Realizes This Isn't His Dimension. He's Pretty Sure He'd Remember Something Called The Justice League.

So What Do You Do When Supernatural Bullshit Fails You? You Fall Back On Your Mad Scientist Roots And You Make A Portal Gun. So That's Exactly What Danny Plans To Do.

Unfortunately Staying Alive And Building Questionably Safe Portal Technology Requires Money And Supplies, So He Ends Up Wandering From City To City Doing Odd Jobs/Fixing Up Busted Tech For Cash Or Unwanted Electronics For His "Operation: Get Home" Needs. This Obviously Ends In A Few Superhero Encounter Shenanigans.

Though He Always Ends Up Back Near Central City, Both On The Off Chance The Natural Portal Will Open Up Again And Because Out Of All The Superheroes That Apparently Exist In This Universe The Speedsters Are His Favorite (Red Robin Is Solidly His Second Favorite Ever Since The Gotham Vigilante Gave Him A Large Coffee Filled With Enough Caffeine To Kill A Man).

Unbeknownst To Danny However Is That Every Hero/Vigilante He Has Encountered Has Come To At Least One Of The Following Conclusions; 1. Run Away Meta Who Is In Desperate Need Of A Good Meal/Adoption Bait. 2. Possibly Red Robin/Tim Drake Clone 3. A Good Kid But Could Possibly Be A Future Rouge If Left Unsupervised. 4. Did Bats Get A New Kid And Why Is He Here?

All Flash Knows Is That He Saw The Kid First And Therefore Has Dibs. Suck It Bruce.

Fast-forward A Few Months And Danny Gets Hurt During A Rogue Attack While Trying To Help Some Civilians Get To Safety (Old Hero Habits Die Hard (Ha Die Hard) And All That Jazz) And He Nopes Out Once Everyone Is Safe And When The Paramedics Are Busy With Other People Unaware He Left A Blood Sample Behind.

One DNA Test Brought To You By Paranoid Bat Concerns Of A Possible Red Robin Clone Later And They Find Out That Dannys DNA Matches One Ra's Al Ghul.

They Now Think Danny Is An Escaped Ra's Al Ghul Clone.

Like yeah it really would suck to be in a relationship where the entire crux of it is one person calming their partner down and acting as an emotional heat sink while the other, "naturally" more violent and aggressive person is expect to be there to physically protect the other person. Or a relationship centered entirely around petty rivalry and mutual loathing, in which, a (possibly) grudging admiration of each other and a social imperative to reproduce, or possible another person entirely, is the only thing keeping you together. The only difference is that on Earth we call those "stereotypical heterosexual monogamous marriages" and not "moiraillegience and kismessistude."

In the middle of a Justice League meeting, Batman feels a tug on his cape. He looks down to see a little boy who could easily pass as one of his.

"Erm," the boy starts. "I frew up."

Great Expectations (1946)

"Great expectations" is a film made in 1946 based on the Charles Dickens book "The Great Expectations" and mostly follows the plot of the book, with minor details being changed, for example from the top of my head i don't know... His sister being straight up murdered!?

...well okay not murdered, but there was a murder attempt and she dies later because of it but unlike the movie im gonna cut an actual small detail and say she was murdered. Also the timeline is a bit jumbled up but the main story and plot is there so, honestly, no biggie.

The plot itself is really simple, Pip is a blacksmiths wife's brother who will become a blacksmith in the future, then he meets a criminal who makes him steal, and later the said criminal is captured and his life moves on. Then he gets invited to play (👀) at the old ladies house and he meets the girl who he develops a crush on. The visits eventually stop and he goes back to his previous life.

Until that end too when he gets a lotta money and Great Expectations (roll credits). So he goes London where he loses all that money, meets his benefactor, tries to run away, gets injured… basically a lot happens in london. After that the movie finally ends by him realising what kind of a prick he was being.

Throught the movie Pip changes quite a lot. In my opinion he goes through 7 stages.

Number one, the poor little child stage

This is the stage he starts at. The child who has no parents and was brought up by hand by his sister, he isn't rich, doesn't have great expectations and is quite happy with hsi future apprenticeship.

Numero dos, the realization stage

In this stage he sees how the rich live. He goes to Miss Havishams and gets a taste of the wealthy life, his eyes are opened and his hands reach to grasp it.

Number three, the coming to terms stage.

This is the moment he realizes that the Great Expectations he has can not be grasped by him and he goes back to his simple life, his simple house and his simple apprenticeship that he is now quite ashamed of.

Number four is the chance stage.

Here he gets a chance. He gets to chase after the dream. (googles the 500 pounds into todays money) He gets a huge sum of money and goes off to London

Number five. The snob stage.

Aaaand now that he's in London he not only loses sight of where he came from he feels embarassed of his past. Of course it happens gradually while he learns how to fit within the wealthy. But in the end he becomes a literal snob.

Number six. Losing it all stage.

Life has a funny way of doing things, and be it karma, be it god or whatever other mythical thing,or even be his own bad decisions, but the money goes poof, he is drowning in debt, has a benefactor that is running from the law and so many other troubles. basically hes left with nothing.

Number seven. Realization part 2 stage

Just like basically every other story this is the end, and just like in romance films where the girl realizes her soulmate was the best friend all along, Pip realizes he was an ass all along. He looks back and sees what he had become.

And that's his journey

From a boy that makes dumb decisions to a man that... makes dumb decisions.

In a way his story is quite relatable. It's a story about how things can blind us and change us drastically, like in Pip's case, money. We see him change from a small innocent boy who is quite content with his life, to him glancing at how the high society lives, to getting a chance, changing because of it and to coming back to his senses. Maybe it was too late for him, maybe not.

But what I really want to know is diD HE GET THE GIRL OR NOT????
