Book #197 - Raising Steam by Terry Pratchett

I will never get tired of dwarf politics. Give me a whole book of dwarven political debates and I would still eat it up, especially if the Low Queen is presiding (she is so cool, you guys). Dwarven social progress is just so fascinating to watch.

And while this book feels... Idk, mellowed out? It still contains this quiet certainty that Discworld always had: that progress will win out, and good will prevail. It kind of reads like the narrator has become a tired old person, but one who is content with that tiredness, and is able to parcel out their strength to still be able to tell it. The story still wishes to be told, and so the narrator obliges, but in their own, less draining way.

This is the book that most impressed on me to actually read the two Pratchett biographies I have on my shelf. This book gains a special dimension through its dedication, and that and the new narrative vibe brought Pratchett as a person closer to his work than I ever saw before, and I look forward to learn more about this feeling.

It's very well possible that I would have gotten more out of this tale if I was a British train nerd, but as it stands I'm just doomed to suffer Deutsche Bahn and her bullshit for the rest of time.

I fear for the Discworld's climate if they don't figure out non-polluting electricity soon, but, you know. Early days. They still have time. They still have time.

I feel like this book, with its optimistic outlook into the future, was guiding me to a point where I might be ready to say goodbye to Discworld again, for a while. One more to go.

The line is two hours long. And they have allowed me to sit while my bf is in my spot in line.

They're applauding every time we have a first time voter, and it's happening about every fifteen people or so.

I'm very stressed about this election, but seeing this amount of visibly queer, POC, and young voters in a very red state is giving me hope that things might not be as bad.

The sudden rift in that part and I'd like to know do the ROs fold their clothes, hang them up, or just leave them in the basket/dryer?....please

How each character might handle their laundry with a playful twist:

1. Dante:

Would hang up his clothes neatly... until he gets distracted halfway through, leaving the rest on the bed because he’s too busy humming a tune and juggling socks for fun.

2. Juno:

Folds their clothes meticulously but always leaves out one sock. It’s not on purpose; they just swear it vanishes into the ether.

3. Fai:

Puts everything in a basket... but the basket is “temporarily” perched on the couch. A week later, it’s still there because Fai feels like it’s “close enough.”

4. M:

Carefully folds their clothes and color-coordinates them—but also lectures anyone nearby on how folding laundry is an art form.

5. Kaisen:

Throws their clothes on the floor with the confident excuse of “air drying.” Claims it builds character.

6. Vie:

Doesn’t even bother folding or hanging—she just stuffs everything into a single drawer, then laughs maniacally when it still somehow fits.

7. Saeko:

Hangs everything up with military precision. She even starches her shirts. If someone tries to fold their laundry near her, she silently takes over because “they’re doing it wrong.”

8. Zephyr:

Leaves the laundry in a basket—but artfully draped so it looks intentional, like a modern art exhibit.

9. Akiyo:

Forgets the clothes in the washing basket entirely... then rewashes them three times because they might smell. Eventually folds them while muttering about wasted time.

Dante or Vergil accidentally calling trish "mom" in the middle of an argument

Dante and Vergil just helping Nero and Kyrie out at the orphanage.

Dante has to explain to Vergil that he's AroAce and doesn't want a relationship cause Vergil literally didn't know that was possible.

Trish ends up being trans and immediately ends up into changing into her ideal body but instead of what she wanted it's just sparda's human form
