Thanks for the ask @lysander-xp! I'm delayed catching up with asks this week, so sorry about that! This is something I hadn't really thought about? I mean, presumably they do, but I haven't written any music for the world or really even sorted out what kind of music their world listens to. But I'm sure Adair hears a really cheesy love song and is like "that's it that's our song now!" and Etri thinks him picking a song is sweet and Blythe thinks it's cheesy (but secretly thinks it's sweet).

anything i want: I tried to get back into running over the summer, but post-illness it’s been tough, so I’ve now decided I want to try the less-strenuous but takes-longer approach of nature hiking: there’s two sets of wooded trails within a mile of me, and the trails themselves are anywhere from a quarter mile to a 3.5 mile loop, so I’ve got lots of distance options. And it’s pretty in fall with the leaves changing.

Hooray, questions! Thanks so much for sending me some, and mere minutes after I reblogged that post too! Here we go:

(Note: I’ll use Book of Gold for this one as it’s my most recently finished work, and Jellie is still too short to say much about different scenes.)

9. What scene was the hardest to write for you and why?

A number of scenes comes to mind, but one I struggled with a lot was the love confession scene between Diana and Gigi. The problem with it was that I had imagined it so often that it was hard to put into words; especially since I’d never actually bothered thinking about how to start it, and I needed a way to plausibly lead up to the confession. Also, action scenes that required balancing a large number of characters were always a struggle because, y’know, logistics.

10. What scene was the most fun to write for you and why?

I loved writing the bit where Xiulan’s vengeful spirit (really just the manifestation of her emotions) chased the heroes through the volcano passages. There’s just something about the environment taking on strange shapes and creepy images to reflect a character’s psychological state that always gets me. Blame it on me reading Servamp in my formative years.

Oh, pet names. I love them myself, but I actually didn’t do much with them in my current WIP.

Rob and Amber only use each other’s first names in public (partly because of the Secret Fling plot trope, and partly because I think that’s what they’d do even if they weren’t involved at all.) Once things move to the bedroom, Rob starts calling her pet, which she didn’t choose but doesn’t object to. She likes having a pet name and doesn’t particularly care what the actual word is (though if I thought hard enough there are some common bedroom names she might object to; fortunately Rob’s choice works for her.)

Summary.

Tatum and Umbra know exactly where they stand.

Hero and villain. Good and evil. One to chase the other in their endless roundabout for as long as they last. It's what expected of them after all, and that's perfectly fine. Really it is.

But when a series of deadly attacks shatter the already chaotic world of New Victorias heroes and villians and a team of kids is formed on a death wish the lines between good and evil are blurred, and everything the two rivals think they know about themselves– and each other– is called into question.

The world is unraveling, to be honest so are they. And when everything is crumbling around them how are a bunch of teenagers supposed to do anything before it

happy tender tuesday from lysander-xp! let’s angst this baby up. what is the worst fight your OCs have ever gotten in? how did they recover? is it still a point of contention or have they moved past it?

Thanks for the ask @lysander-xp! :D I'm going to answer this in terms of my five and their incredibly close found family dynamic because it works best for the question than anything specifically romantic. The worst fight definitely comes at the start of book 1, when Dray uses their mind control magic to split the group. They're doing this with all the best intentions-- they think by doing this, they're going to keep Adair and Sol safe by keeping them out of danger, and they think keeping Blythe and Etri with them is safe because Dray doesn't realize that Etri has magic. (Having magic is the deciding factor-- Dray knows the upcoming situation can hurt someone with magic, but not hurt someone who doesn't have it.)

When the others snap out of the mind control, mostly they're furious. Sol's the one who takes it most in stride, but he's still upset that he's not with his brother or Blythe, who he thinks of as a sister, and tends to rely on both of them to watch over him. Adair's freaking out and near panic because being controlled into doing something he had no say in is a trigger for him. Blythe is FURIOUS because Dray is the person she loves most at this point (they met years ago and decided that they were siblings because neither had family) and this just adds to the hurt she felt when she hadn't heard from Dray in months prior to meeting up with them again. Etri is angry because it meant that he's no longer with his brother-- who he's fiercely protective over and hasn't spent any real time apart from-- and he knows Adair's been in sort of danger this whole time and now he's not with anyone who can keep him safe.

Once they join up again, Dray finally tells them why they did this-- it was for a very good reason, but the action was very much not what they should have done. Sol forgives immediately and stays with Dray while the others are avoiding Dray. Adair forgives quickly because he understands the reasoning, but has to have a talk with Dray about why it hurt him so much before they're able to start becoming close. (Dray never ever uses this magic on any of the four again and is particularly protective over Adair after this point because they understand so much what this kind of trigger is like, but didn't realize Adair had it.) Blythe and Etri take longer to forgive-- Dray has to do a lot to earn their trust again. They do forgive Dray, though, and from that point on Dray’s moral compass starts to settle into north instead of wildly jumping around. Dray learns to take more care with the others because they’re the most important people to them and they don’t want to lose them.
