Pete shrugs. "Doesn't matter to me. I'm not friends with you because you're the chatty type."

Jim adjusts their hat with a smile. They remember Pete catching their hat at the wedding like it had been a bouquet thrown by a bride on land, the way that Jim had hoped that it meant that soon enough, Pete would get to have the same glorious moment that they had. That Jim had hoped that Pete would get to feel loved and cherished and held tight by those that loved him most. 

Pete has had a special little place in their heart for awhile now. Sure, they have friends now, consider every crew member a part of the family they never got to have as a child, but Pete's different. Yes, Olu was their first friend ever, but their relationship evolved into something different, something that involved wanting to be touched and adored and worshipped.

Jim never wanted to kiss Pete. They never wanted him to be anything more than just a friend.

But they care about him deeply. As much as they love Olu and Archie, cherish and adore them with everything they have, they will always have an understanding with Pete that they don't have with anyone else. Guys. GUYS. The galaxy-brained relationship between trans Black Pete and Jim is the best thing I've ever read, especially after the recent update regarding Jim's top surgery. Thinking about how AND ALSO OVERANALYSING the main non-soundtrack songs in the film (Dr. Love & Switch) are about the perspectives of Ricky and Bethany respectively of their relationship

The medical metaphors for love in Dr Love phrase the relationship as something Ricky is doing to Bethany, and is something he can do repeatedly to anyone else (like a surgery or administering a vitamin), which he later does to Annie Filkins

Switch is obviously about Ricky being mind controlled but I think it could also be about how he drops the charming persona as soon as he decides he’s fed up with her

Dr Love is a casanova song and Switch is a power breakup anthem I love it

OH life updates btw. 1 im stopping wellbutrin and going on lexapro and 2 i get to get a tattoo for christmaass!!! its gonna be the first line of give ("you take the dark and carve me out a home") with lavenders and roses as accents. bc its gonna be a tattoo for my wife :) and those are their favorite flowers :)
