She’s seen a dozen or so like it over the years, but only recently has the woman noticed that the small structures which the locals call “shrines” are beginning to change color. The switch from orange to blue is a pleasing one, in her opinion, though she can’t begin to fathom the cause. “The heroine has returned!” smile a few people when she puts forward the question in conversation, but no one has actually seen the so-called heroine interacting with the shrines. They’re just there, and have been changing slowly across Hyrule over the past several months.
She reaches out, ghosts her fingertips across the flat-topped stand beside what would be the doorway, if the little things had any interior to speak of. The blue glow pulses slightly, like a cat purring awake at her touch, but otherwise nothing changes. She backs up a few steps, to stand in the center of the circle on the shrine’s base, and leans back to make eye contact with the pattern on top, the Sheikah eye. Her hood slips back off her head as she does so, and she squints slightly against the sunlight.

The woods look different in the sunlight. The nightshade that lines the natural path doesn’t glow alluringly, birdsong fills the air rather than the chirping of crickets. Still, though, the Great Fairy fountain looks about as Zelda remembers it.
“Not a dream, then,” she mutters to herself, and begins to circle the giant blossom. It glimmers in a sunbeam that seems to have been directed deliberately, and reminds her of something carnivorous. Is the water within the plant actually water, or digestive enzymes waiting for a passing pilgrim to try and bathe in the apparently bottomless pool? Is it even a real plant, or a structure the Great Fairy built to lure people in?
She’s too caught up in studying the flower to notice anything else.

lyreweaver replied to your post: Dog king, indeed.
I know a prince who’s a dog.
It is not a common position for a dog?

I know an Impa. She used to work with me, serving the royal family in a more direct capacity than the rest of the Sheikah.
nayrusknight:
I’m more than happy to share. A name is an unusually heavy burden at the end of the day.
Oh. There is a person I remember. I almost forgot. A woman named Impa–she shows up in my memories a lot, but I’ve never seen anyone like her yet.

The solution boils quickly, and Zelda doesn’t like what she sees when she removes the pot from the heat. It’s sludgy, and toxic green, and smells exactly how you’d expect a pot full of boiled chlorophyll to smell, but there’s something sort of... off. For the amount of plant matter she put in, the texture is way too thick. Still, though, some of the most unpleasant concoctions can be incredibly useful. She dips an empty bottle into the liquid and counts slowly to one hundred while she waits for it to cool, then throws back the whole bottle in three quick swallows.
The taste is a lot stronger than the smell. This is what it would be like to drink liquefied leaves. She gags, sets the bottle down and starts counting again. Generally speaking most elixirs take effect within sixty seconds. Zelda chokes on the number eighteen.
It’s like being throttled by a moblin. Invisible hands around her throat, cutting off all access to air. In seconds, the world is spinning, and Zelda loses her balance. She doesn’t even register pain when she falls on her face. Darkness closes in from the edges of her vision as she tries desperately to drag herself across the wood planks, reaching for the fire.

lyreweaver reblogged your photoset and added:
That looks amazing.
It really does. I used to spend a lot of time here, apparently. It feels more like a home than anywhere else I've been.

lyreweaver:
Maybe not you-you. But... I guess Princess Zelda wore a disguise during the rise of the Evil King. She called herself Sheik. And, that’s what I’m remembering.
But you're distinctly not her. Or do you feel as though you are?
