Some assorted ghoul headcanons

If Phantom falls asleep on your lap, prepare to be there a while. Part of it is cat logic: if the cat sits on your lap you sooner die than move. The other part is the fact that Phantom sleeps like the dead. Once he’s asleep, you could literally tip him onto the floor and he wouldn’t wake up. His packmates have had to get creative. The time Phantom cozied up onto Cumulus’ lap while she was crocheting she just barely was able to grab her yarn ball out of the way. Before she could so much as sigh, he conked out. With his middle splayed over her lap, cheek smushed into a throw pillow, and legs on the opposite armrest; there was absolutely no easy way to ease out from under him. With a sigh she just stuck her yarn ball on one of his horns and got back to her project.

When Aether does the dishes, he purposely puts Dew’s favorite mug on the top shelf. Aether does it so he can watch the way the fire ghoul’s back arches and his shirt rides up when he grabs it for his coffee in the mornings. Better still when Dew wanders into the kitchen in just his boxers or sleep pants. Dew knows Aether does it on purpose and in retaliation he puts Aether’s mug in the bottom cabinets so Aether has to bend down to get it and Dew can enjoy the view of his ass.

When first summoned, fire ghouls drink way too much water all the time. The area of the pits they come from is hot and dry so any potable drinking water is to be consumed on sight because one never knows how long they’ll have to go without or who they’ll have to fight for it. As a result, every newly summoned fire ghoul will be territorial about their drinks and down buckets of water like their life depends on it. They end up going through a period of learning how much water their body actually needs and that that water is always going to be available. Omega had to explain to Ifrit several times that “No, it’s not normal to pee that much”, “Please, stop drinking out of the sink”, and “Please stop hissing when someone else uses the Brita”. Dew is quite happy to have missed that phase.

Quintessence ghoul’s have a strange affinity for bananas. Aether adores them in any form. Omega keeps a jar of banana flavored hard candies on his desk in the infirmary. Phantom likes the taste but not the texture. However, the day Cumulus baked banana nut bread, Phantom was in love. Whenever she makes it, she has to make two batches; one for Phantom and one for the rest of the pack (which they have to hide) when Phantom quickly demolishes his stash.

Sunshine often gets a huge burst of energy right before bed. Her packmates have gotten up for a late night snack or water to find her rearranging her bedroom furniture, cleaning the pantry, or even simply having a dance party in the common room in an attempt to tire herself out. On those nights, whoever finds her will make sure she brushes her teeth, gives her a few melatonin, and drags her back to bed with them. Fortunately the melatonin usually knocks her out and she’s able to sleep the rest of the night.

The Sunshine Court spoilers

this one post about dichotomy of attack vs guard dog was one of the few things i kept thinking about when i was reading this book and how jean's story kind fit into that in few ways:

maybe jean wasn't even meant to be only an attack dog (on the court), but also a starved, obedient one (like the first quote says). a person only doing what was told to him, not to speak out of his turn, never to choose basically anything for himself. starved for his freedom. and trained to attack others on the court to win his master, Riko and Ravens their games.

this whole book was really about the change of how jean thought of himself, slowly and painstakingly learning that maybe he did deserve better. he was waking up from this horrible nightmare, being constantly on lookout for the worst things to happen, trying to overcome his training which was beaten into him since years prior, and fit into the box that his family's name put him into. thinking he was always treated the way he deserved. flinching at the names of people that caused him harm and lashing out only at those that weren't above him.

UNTIL!! until a few helping hands saved him. renee's reassurance and support and words to look out for new things to appreciate life. kevin's help of finding a new place for him where he would be safe and had a chance to start a new life, and neil getting rid of his worst enemies and cleaning out the path before him - he finally found out he could still breathe, to find friends who cared about him, new places to see and things to learn! (like riding a motorcycle if cat teaches him, and ceramics with jeremy, and cooking with laila).

Ghoul DnD Class Headcanons

Cirrus: Mage. Specializes in elemental magic and specifically storm/wind based.

Cumulus: Bard. Inspires the party, gets them free lodging in taverns, and is the party’s backup healer.

Sunshine: Warlock. Patron is the devil from the bible. Actually takes the story and her character pretty seriously because she’s invested.

Aurora: Cleric. Just because she’s the party’s healer doesn’t mean that she isn’t the reason at least half the time why the party needs healing.

Dewdrop: Barbarian. The other fifty percent of the reason the party often needs healing.

Rain: Forever DM. Has really intricate plans for each session that of course the party doesn’t follow. Let Phantom DM once. Never again.

Mountain: Druid. Elk/ram wildshape. Also one of the few to take the roleplay seriously. His character is the most intimidating out of the bunch but is actually an animal loving sweetheart.

Aether: Paladin. Literally the only upstanding member of the party. Tries (fails) to keep everyone in check.

Swiss: Bard. Favorite phrase is “I wanna seduce the dragon”. After what happened the first time it’s concerning that he continues to roll to seduce NPCs.

Phantom: Rogue. Younger brother of the paladin who’s only goals in life are shinies and driving the paladin insane. The one time he DMed he forgot to mention going in that his oneshot was horror themed. It was so amazingly realistic and terrifying that it gave Mountain, Swiss, and Aurora nightmares and everyone else is scared to let him DM again.

From my notes....... like to me Sharena is projecting a little bit, here. She's frustrated with Veronica not only because of her behavior, but because if SHARENA EVER acted out anywhere NEAR that way. Maybe there would be severe consequences. Maybe it's something Sharena makes an effort to correct, within herself, before any consequences can catch her. And yet. Despite all that. Sharena still has moments of attitude and dare I say, Stubbornness, too.
