i'm back with another random question. actually two. who's a character in one piece that you think is "underrated?" and who's a character you wish there were more OCs interacting with? it's cool if the answer is the same for both.
Let me preface this by saying that I don’t read a lot of fanfic and often I avoid reading works from fandoms I’m writing for, so maybe I’m about to put my foot in my mouth, but I think Boa Hancock is criminally mistreated (and it’s Oda’s fault). Most of the attention I’ve seen her get focuses on her as fanservice or criticism on the crush she has on Luffy. But as a Shichibukai she’s one of the strongest players in the OP world, is the ruler of a military power where every single soldier knows haki, has one of the most overpowered Devil Fruits we’ve seen, and she’s a survivor of slavery who escaped Mary Geoise thanks to Fisher Tiger. There’s so much to work with there, and she very rarely gets the opportunity to shine or get the recognition she deserves.
As for OCs, I don’t think I’ve ever seen any interact with Hancock herself, or Tashigi, or Vivi, or Tsuru, or... you get the drill. I feel the women get forgotten the most, and it would be nice to see more of them.

21, 23, 28, 29 for the OC asks? Can Rho count? If not, feel free to choose someone u wanna talk about!!
Sure, I can count Rho for this!
21. What’s a fact you haven’t shared about this oc?
The first time Rho finally felt in control of their appearance and really loved themself was when they chopped nearly a foot a half of their hair off and dyed it an obscenely bright shade of red. The look of utter shock on the Arkwright Family’s faces when they finally saw it was one they’d never forget.
23. Who would this oc consider their family? What is their relationship with these people?
All the friends that they made at Jujutsu Tech are like family to them, even the ones who moved on. But Nanami is probably the most like family to them. At the time when their mental health was at its worst he was the most stable ground they could have ever thought to have found and they’re forever grateful and always searching for ways to repay him for it. He’s their best friend and they’d quite honestly do anything for him.
28. What’s your favorite thing about this oc?
They really just woke up one day and decided they were going to be petty right back at life. What a champ.
29. What’s your least favorite thing about this oc?
There are plenty of times when they’re indecisive and a pushover, and while they are kind and that is most certainly nothing to fault them over, their kindness is overwhelming enough that it prevents them from establishing boundaries that prevent others from taking advantage of them and taking care of themself. They get better as they get older, but it was really bad for them as a kid.

hello!! i saw your art for your OC if she were in the akazaya, and i love it. i really like when people have a bunch of AUs for a single OC. would you mind telling me more about this part of rory's story?? what happens to her after the execution, what's her role, and any ships??(PS i see that you also love... kyoshiro... what a guy right!!)
Oh my gosh yes, I love this peacock-looking fool and his big dumb grins-- 10ft tall and could kick my butt in 3000 different ways, but I would very much like to hug him because he needs it badly,,, I could talk about him a bunch, especially since I’m fully caught up manga wise,,
And OMG!!! Someone sending me an ask about Rory!!! You just made my whole week!!!!! :DDD
Oh man I think I altered Wano arc so much that it's only half recognizable so excuse my self indulgence if this isn't anything you were expecting-- But I ship her with the big himbo Oden himself in this au, so I had to do some dancing to make everything work! ^^ Oden also avoids execution, but I'll explain how as well!
----
Rory was an outsider who escaped from a Celestial Dragon's ship and found her way crashing into the shores of Wano! She met Oden in Kuri fairly early on into his reforming of it, and she practically broke his nose when he tried flirting with her because she was so panicked after everything she had been through, and his confident nature ^^; he thought it was hilarious and endearing, but she ran off before he could continue talking to her or find out why she was dressed so strangely, being from outside of Wano and all.
Later, Oden and the Akazaya learn about a girl causing trouble at the Flower Capital, so despite his not-yet-lifted banishment from there, they travel there to see what’s going on. Of course upon arriving he sees the same girl as before crashing into food carts and people as she tries to get away from guards trying to catch her for being an outsider to question her, especially because of the destruction she had caused.
The Akazaya were pretty unsuccessful in catching her themselves, to the point where she actually managed to bite Denjiro, much to his shock and hollering. They only managed to finally catch her when Oden decided to stop laughing and help, and they ended up taking her back to Kuri as Oden told the other guardsmen that she was with them and from there. Given Kuri’s prior reputation, they believed it easily and just wanted to get Oden back out of the capital.
They let her go free after talking to her about how she had gotten there and after Oden had excitedly asked her about the world outside of Wano’s borders, and she ended up deciding to stick around. Over the course of a while, she ended up falling for Oden and him for her, and she trained to become one of his retainers and a part of the Akazaya. She saw all the others as her brothers and sister, and was very close to Kin’emon, and Denjiro after the two of them stopped being grumps towards each other. She was especially close with Denjiro.
Also in my au, Toki's a ninja who works with Shinobu and the Akazaya closely, because of the Amatsuki clan's ties with the Kozuki clan. Because of this, her son Momonosuke is later chosen as a successor to Oden because of just how close she is to both Rory and Oden and how much they cared for her children.
As for the execution, Toki was present and was able to time-jump Oden ahead before the finishing blow was given to him, shortly after the Akazaya had taken off towards the castle. Oden ends up in present time at the capital, and manages to go into hiding after he figures out what Toki had done. Knowing fully well how he had been overtaken before, and how powerful Orochi and Kaido could be now, he decided to actually think before he acts for once and remained hidden for a while.
Of course, back in the past, Toki’s actions shocked everyone, thinking she had just teleported a half-dead man somewhere. It gave her a chance to take off and escape to Oden castle to warn Rory about what was happening.
When they arrived there, Toki gives the Akazaya basically the speech she gives them in canon, before Kawamatsu leaves with Hiyori and she sends the others into time.
Rory gets sent off with Kin'emon and Co. through time and travels with him throughout the canon arcs leading to Wano! Everyone spends the time believing both Toki and Oden perished two decades ago, because Toki never had a moment to explain that she had sent Oden off after the boiling.
Later on, Rory and Kin’emon become separated shortly after returning back to Wano after Zou, though, and she ends up getting caught by some of Kyoshiro's men and taken to him. Upon where he instantly recognizes her as the dork he used to call a little sister, and despite his hopes and Toki’s prophecy, is shocked and overjoyed to see her alive and okay.
He takes her to a private room and reveals his identity to her, and they have a tearful reunion before she begins working as a geisha for him so he can keep her safe and close. She finds her way back to Kin’emon and the others though, explaining where she’s been and what she’s been doing, but keeps Denjiro’s secret up until he reveals himself on the way to the raid.
----
I'm still ironing out the timeline and how everything happens with Toki and the Whitebeard pirates to the Roger pirates misadventures, and how I’ll work the Onigashima Raid in this au, but this is everything I have so far in short~ Even if it's... not exactly short ^^; Thank you so so much for asking and reading though!! I don’t often get to ramble about Rory to others besides friends, and I love doing so a lot!!! Have a lovely week lovely!!! <333
And I never mind further asks about things I’ve mentioned or any asks about my ocs just saying
#this ask gave me a mood boost thank you so much--#i really did go and alter wano to heck and back just for my own oden self indulgence didnt i? i did...#ask#rory amore#opspoilers#lyebrarian

me and @lyebrarian did a blind date oc meme for opocs…. so here’s my half - her name is Aloe! She runs a sea bound soup kitchen and food pantry - her head is always in the clouds, usually imagining the extreme side of the spectrum in any situation (sees a rock move… what if a boulder is coming?) She’s genderfluid but likes she/they pronouns the most - her pink braids are clip ons that she removes if she’s feeling more masc.
#draws by kev#opoc#one piece oc#op oc#i rly wanna give her a power.. like haki or a devil fruit but i actually have NO ideas for one so........... later#oc: aloe

for the music rec game. how about Dear Love by Lim Hyunsik. will it ruin the game if i say it is on my nananoa playlist.
Sacred nananoa content? Ruin the game? Persish the thought!
couldn’t listen all the way through | not my thing | it’s okay | kinda catchy | ok i really like this | downloading immediately | already in my library
First off― This is slow dancing music and you know how free the rent for nananoa slow dancing in my head is.
Second― “By any chance when you look up at the moon Do you miss me?”
(ಥ_ಥ) O W
Third― His vocals are very nice, thank you for the rec!

does saki have a playlist somewhere. do you have some songs that represent her. just curious...
I never got around to make one for her, but I put together a bunch of Ingrid Michaelson songs for a Saki/Law playlist. It's here. I'm really bad at making playlists... basically because I often listen to the same songs on repeat... not a whole lot of variety.

❤️ for the OC ask... can i get Alex?? self-insert or not, let's talk about her ships!!
You went straight for the juicy one, huh??
❤️ What would your OC’s ideal lover be like? Appearance, personality, voice? Would their family approve or would it be civil war?
First things first, she’s asexual. Doesn’t have a type and doesn’t care about gender, but has a slight preference for men and likes soothing voices the best. She tends to be attracted to smart people, but it’s not like she’s looking for specific traits anyway, because she considers falling in love an annoyance at best and a disaster if it happens to be reciprocated. Anything that threatens her personal bubble is a danger to be avoided. She’s extremely awkward displaying affection and likes to have a lot of space, so if the other person requires constant attention, she’ll burn out very fast. She doesn’t assume that time spent together equals affection and expects the same in return. Also, this hasn’t made it explicitly into the story yet, but there have been a few clues dropped: they would have to be okay with her being sick quite possibly for life, so that makes the list of potential suitors even shorter. Best case scenario is someone that she can talk to for hours without getting bored, but could just as easily leave her to her devices for a whole day, and that she can curl up next to at the end of the day without a fuss. Think of how you’d treat a cat.
As for her family, reaction would boil down to first impressions and physical appearance, and this being the Grand Line, there’s a lot potential for failure. Her mother might complain, but they’re so far away from each other at the moment that it doesn’t matter. Edit because I wrote this asleep and didn’t think of the obvious: If they’re a pirate, mother’s going to have a conniption. The higher the bounty, the worse. Again, it doesn’t matter.

sorry that im here in your ask box again but holy crap the age gap discourse comment you made hit me REALLY close to home. i tried to join a discord server for one piece and one of the rules was "no ships more than seven years apart even if theyre all adults" and i was like ok are we just pulling acceptable numbers out of our asses at this point?? i really dont want to seem like i'm not against p*do ships but. when everyone is an adult what the heck.
That’s... weird. The day I decided that I wasn’t going to read any type of OP shipping discourse was the day I saw a Law (26) / Luffy (19) shipper saying Sanji (21) / Pudding (16) was disgusting. Something about stones and glass houses. And that server can pry Shakky/Rayleigh from my cold, dead hands.
(As an aside, speaking from the experience of someone who dated a 27-year-old when I was 20: that is not a healthy gap at those ages. Just no. Doesn’t mean I’m going to rail against people who like it.)

prompt 29 for veleta?
This is only... *checks notes* two months late.( ̄□ ̄;)I’m so sorry and thanks so much for the ask ❤
29. — preparation
Veleta couldn’t tell how many farewells her little house had seen. As far as she knew, her parents had built it with their own hands, and one day, tired of eating only fish and shellfish, her mom had ventured to the Upper Yard to bring the soil of their small garden. But despite not having been there for too long, travelers came and went all the time, and Veleta’s family was always happy to welcome a new batch of adventurers. Some only stopped for a few hours, trying to learn of the sea they had just reached. Some had less than wholesome intentions, and they made sure they never came back. Many arrived with broken vessels in need of repair, and those stayed longer: Veleta’s favorites, because they told stories and brought trinkets from the Blue Sea and let her help fix their ships.
Her mom left with one of them, many years ago; a crew of nice talking animals that were looking for something in the Upper Yard. She was their guide there, and when they came back, she said she had decided to leave with them and help them look for what they were searching.
Veleta helped her pack while her dad half-heartedly tried to convince her not to go. It didn’t take long, because they didn’t have many things, and Veleta got one last hug and kiss from her mom before she set out to the mysterious sea below in the same ship Veleta had been patching up for a week. She hadn’t seen her since then, but the letters always kept coming.
Her dad was another matter. When he left to work with the other weather scientists, he brought a lot of equipment with him, and left even more with Veleta, making sure she understood how to work everything. He wasn’t as unreachable as her mom – she could write back, at the very least, and she could ride to his island if he sent the current coordinates – but by the time Veleta decided to go meet her own future, they hadn’t met in years.
She didn’t need much, either: just a backpack with a change of clothes, an assortment of dials, a bar of soap and a pot. She could improvise everything else, and the lighter she traveled, the faster the waver would go. The last things on her list were to leave a note on the dinner table and the door unlocked so that travelers knew they were still welcome.
After giving a pat to the front wall in thanks for its service, she adjusted her goggles to protect her eyes from the wind, held onto the waver’s handlebars with a steady grip, and looked one last time at the cloudless sky, ready to depart.

ah, its been awhile since i visited this fine askbox. im quite behind on fics right now because im on a dedicated reading project. but something id like to see in heart pirate fic is 1 - OCs being wingmen to the crew and 2 - actual medical scenes where they have to operate and every member plays a part. idk how possible those scenes are or how common in other fic because i havent read as much lately. but thats my two cents!!
I think those are definitely doable! I mean, I don't know how viable it would be to have everybody around during an operation, but even if it's just part of the crew, it could be a nice challenge to write. OCs playing wingmen sounds hilarious and you can bet I'll be keeping this in mind going forward. You've given me a few ideas. Thanks!! ♡✧( ु•⌄• )

☄ and ☠ for inked on skin !!
☄: what the writing process was like
PAINFUL. At the beginning I didn’t pay much attention to what I was doing, but it became clear a few chapters in that I had to start investing a lot more time in it than I originally intended if I wanted to execute the idea more or less well. There’s a noticeable shift around chapter 10. I had a lot of fun writing the fic, obviously, but the main feeling I get when I think back on it is that it was exhausting to write, in part because I wanted to finish it so much. I think I would have enjoyed the process a lot more if I hadn’t been so fixated on the endgame, but then again, most of the scenes I wanted to write from nearly the beginning were concentrated near the end.
☠: something i found challenging
The fact that every island required starting from zero. Often the chapters that took the longest to write were those where they arrived to a new place because I had to build everything from the ground up: geography, climate, history, new OCs, a new plot… That took time, and often amounts of brainpower that I didn’t always have available.

hello!! i just came over to hang out in ur inbox. i finished writing an OC fic last week and now im ready to start another one so i feel like i relate to ur blog a lot. anyway i had a question! are there any characters u would like to write OC fanfic for, but u feel like u can't bc u can't picture the relationship working? i ponder this from time to time bc im always wondering how canonical my canon character portrayals are, know what i mean?
Hi! Hm... that’s a complicated question.
When I start writing an OC story, I do because I have some sort of story in mind, often independently from pairings. If it happens, it happens, but it wouldn’t take away from the plot if it didn’t.
When it comes to relationships between canon characters and OCs, I don’t start writing with a set pairing as the final goal because I never know how they are going to mix until they’re together on the page, and it’s even more difficult to predict when I don’t have enough experience writing those canon characters.
For instance, in Anomaly, I started with the idea that the OC and Kurama could get together at some point of the story, but I was about five chapters in and already thinking, nope, it’s not going to work. And it wasn’t even that they didn’t work together, but she was too young, both characters were very aware of it, and there wasn’t any amount of chemistry that could change that. There are things you can’t see until you’re writing them.
So while I can’t say the possibility of a relationship not working has ever stopped me from trying to write a story, it has made me change plans on the fly and think my readers are going to eat me.
