In the process of!!! I’m a third of the way through Nona atm. I’ve had a journey with these books lmao, I was slogging through Gideon for weeks, nearly gave up on it, didn’t really click with it till the last quarter or so; Harrow I went feral over, finished it in two days; and with Nona I’m not clicking quite so much but I am curious to see where it goes.

But yeah, Harrowhark “I am a war crime” Nonagesimus has my heart. She’s the type of character that’s right up my alley, brilliant, highly driven, more or less deranged, buries her emotions so she presents as a scary stone-cold bitch but really just needs a hug. I’m completely obsessed with her.

I wish I could! I only know about as much as I shared 😅 my grandfather was a Finnish immigrant who was extremely secretive about his life, so after his death my mom went digging into her family tree and discovered that. But afaik it’s a very distant relation to be clear!

What's the origin of your blog's title? @lvsifer and I were talking about a certain Middle-Earth cookbook with some truly funky recipes, unfortunately there were none for Mairon so we were like... What would he eat? He would definitely be into eating raw meat. Mettbrötchen are a German specialty, basically a bread roll with butter and minced raw pork (yes, you heard that right), preferably with pepper and red onions. So Mairon's Mettbrötchen was born - doesn't it just fuck phonetically?

Favorite Fandoms: The Silm fandom 🖤 I have never been truly active in any other fandom.

OTP(s) + shipname: Angbang (Mairon/Melkor). Most other ships I love/like are fucked up in a way that makes OTP sound wrong to describe them (not that an OTP can't have a fucked up dynamic of course!).

Favorite color: red, black, gold, rusty colors, yellow

Favorite game: Not a a gamer person.

Weirdest habit/trait? Super randomly talking to myself when I'm alone at home? Could be pieces of dialogue I'm planning for a fic, could be imaginary discussion scenarios with friends or coworkers... you name it.

Hobbies: Writing.

If you work, what's your profession? I'm a linguist specializing in language change, particularly grammatical change. I don't currently work in that field though; I work at a technical university in event management and student recruiting.

If you could have any job you wish what would it be? I'd work as a linguist and teach at university again.

Something you're good at: Learning languages quickly, imitating native accents in languages (other than English, probably due to my idgaf attitude when it comes to that, so have a weird mix of different accents in English mixed with a very slight German and Dutch accent. lol), teaching, public speaking, being thoughtful with gifts, cooking

8. Have you received anon hate? What about?

tbh quite rarely! the highlight was when I wrote a Cancellable Fic and I woke up to my email inbox full of angry comments and I made a video montage set to twenty one pilots.

Please imagine being in the despair-filled depths of the first lockdown and waking up to THIS. Priorities, folks!

(cw I guess — don't watch this if you're sensitive to fandom harassment, I'm very very over it and I make fun of it, but it's probably a bit anxiety-inducing ig)

A more recent memorable one was a long rant about Alecto that I don't really remember in full but said something like "I bet you're one of those people who gets off to Joss Whedon's sad barefoot beaten-up women"

9. Most disliked character(s)? Why?

If we're talking TLT... this is sooooo hard but I'm gonna have to say Palamedes. Because he's a reasonably popular character that I mostly vibe with in specific ways, so when I check out Pal fics I never know if I'm going to love them or backclick right out.

10. Most disliked arc? Why?

The Study of Doctor Sex because it's my least favourite of the short stories (& also I think the Sixth come out looking creepier than most of the fandom thinks)

11. Is there an unpopular character you like that the fandom doesn’t? Why?

IDK who counts as unpopular in my little lyctorfucking cave, so I'm gonna go with Silas. Teenage Pope! He never had a chance! He is THE ONLY person in the Canaan House group who looked at the Lyctoral process and said, undoubtedly and without even thinking about it "If God asked me to I'd say sorry God you're wrong." Can't wait for him to get back in AtN

13. Unpopular opinion about [John]?

This post I reblogged this morning says it better than I could, but in general I think fandom analysis doesn't engage enough with his identity as an indigenous man. I do have others :D but this is the most niche I think!

hello hi PLEASE watch beyond evil i cannot recommend it enough. one of the most well-made shows i've watched in recent memory in that every single aspect of it fucking rules like soundtrack rules narrative rules shot composition rules characters arcs rule mystery rules acting rules. genuinely tv at its finest and that's not even mentioning the fact that the main guys are gay . & well if we're getting into the fact that the main guys are gay. i honestly cannot even begin to describe the sheer insanity of their relationship progression. the obsession the mutual respect the mutual distrust the homoerotic mind games the devotion the sacrifice the whatever souls are made of his and mine are the same of it all. they could've had gay sex 50 times per episode & it would've been less gay that whatever the fuck we ended up with. this is where i have to disclose that they're not "canonically" gay in the sense that they do not kiss each other on the lips but their relationship is so clearly the heart of the show like [fleabag voice] this is a love story. please watch beyond evil everyone reading this youwant to watch beyond evil you want to watch beyond evil so bad.
