Tips for First-Time Renters in Colorado Springs
Renting an apartment for the first time can be both exciting and overwhelming, especially in a vibrant city like Colorado Springs. Whether you’re searching for a modern studio or a luxury apartment, navigating the rental market can be daunting. Here are some essential tips to help you find the perfect apartment in Colorado Springs and make the most of your renting experience.
1. Define Your Needs and Budget
Before you start browsing apartments for rent in Colorado Springs, establish a clear budget and list your priorities. Determine what amenities are crucial for you—whether it’s a gym, a pet-friendly policy, or proximity to downtown. If you're drawn to new apartments downtown Colorado Springs or looking at high-end options, be prepared for potentially higher rents. Compare your needs with your budget to narrow down your choices effectively.
2. Explore Different Neighborhoods
Colorado Springs boasts a range of neighborhoods, each with its own unique character. Consider looking at apartments near downtown Colorado Springs if you want to be close to the city’s vibrant cultural scene and amenities. Alternatively, if you prefer a quieter area, explore apartments near Colorado Springs or newer apartments in other parts of the city. Studying neighborhood profiles will help you find the best fit for your lifestyle.
3. Research Apartment Complexes
When looking at apartment complexes in Colorado Springs, take note of the community features. Many modern apartments in Colorado Springs offer luxury amenities such as fitness centers, swimming pools, and high-end finishes. If you're interested in luxury studio apartments Colorado Springs or high-rise options, ensure that the apartment complex matches your expectations for comfort and convenience.
4. Check for Hidden Costs
Be aware of additional costs beyond rent. Some apartments for rent Colorado Springs CO might have hidden fees such as parking charges, utility costs, or maintenance fees. Always review the lease agreement carefully to understand what’s included in your rent and what additional expenses you might incur.
5. Visit Multiple Properties
Don’t settle on the first apartment you see. Tour various apartments for rent in Colorado Springs to compare amenities, locations, and overall conditions. This is particularly important if you’re considering Colorado Springs high-end apartments or luxury apartment amenities. Visiting multiple properties will give you a better sense of what you can get for your money and help you make a more informed decision.
6. Ask About Lease Terms
Clarify the lease terms before signing. Understand the length of the lease, renewal options, and the process for breaking the lease if needed. Knowing these details can save you from potential headaches later on.
7. Look for Reviews and Ratings
Check online reviews and ratings for apartment complexes in Colorado Springs. Feedback from current or former residents can provide valuable insights into the management and living conditions of the property.

This Is Why Denver is the Best Place for You To Move
There are many great places to live in the United States. Some cities are rich in culture and have a thriving economy. Others have amazing weather and beautiful landscapes. But what if you want all of these things? Well, there's a city that has it all: Denver! It's no secret why people love living here: we've got great restaurants, affordable housing, and nonstop entertainment options—and oh yeah, our famous Rocky Mountain air is pretty sweet too! So if you're thinking about moving to Denver or already calling this city home, keep reading on to find out exactly why we're the best place for you to call home.
The food scene
Whether you're looking for a classic steakhouse, a modern bistro or the best tacos in town, Denver has an incredible food scene. If you're from New York or Chicago, expect to be blown away by how many diverse cuisines and fantastic restaurants are available in Denver. From fine dining to casual eateries and street food stalls, there's something for everyone.
The city has one of the highest concentrations of food trucks in America and has been recognized as having some of the best food truck options anywhere in the country. It also boasts some of the most popular food festivals around—including A Taste of Colorado (a five-day festival featuring more than 100 local chefs), Eats Denver Winter Market (an indoor marketplace with over 30 vendors), and countless others throughout springtime through fall!
The weather
The weather is a huge factor when it comes to where you live. Denver has a mild climate year-round, with four distinct seasons: spring (March 1 to May 31), summer (June 1 to September 30), fall (October 1 to December 31), and winter (January 1 to March 31). While the average temperature for Denver in February is around 50 degrees Fahrenheit, it can be as low as 20 degrees Fahrenheit or as high as 80 degrees Fahrenheit. In addition to these numbers, there are two things that make Denver especially ideal for those who love outdoor activities: its proximity to mountains and its countless open spaces. The city sits at an elevation of 5,280 feet above sea level and is surrounded by Colorado's Rocky Mountains—which means there's always something exciting for you to do outdoors!
On top of all this, Denver has some beautiful parks and green spaces such as Cherry Creek State Park near downtown. This park offers hiking trails on both sides so visitors can easily see both sides without having to cross any roads!
The real estate market
If the real estate market is your thing, then Denver is your city. There are many reasons that this is true, but one of them is simply this: there's a lot of good real estate for sale.
And it's not just any old good real estate; it's also affordable and plentiful. If you're looking to buy a house or an apartment in Denver, there are plenty of options available at every price point imaginable—from the most luxurious properties down through more modest homes and apartments all the way down to entry-level condos or townhomes. The number of options on the market means that anyone can find something they like regardless of their budget or lifestyle needs, while also ensuring that sellers have plenty of potential buyers from which to choose when deciding whether or not to sell their property at all (and if so) how much they should list it for sale at first glance (and if so) what kind of amenities might entice prospective buyers into making an offer on their property during negotiations with a said seller after viewing pictures online via social media sites such as Facebook where most people post pictures about everyday life--and share pictures with others that show off how happy they've been lately since moving out here from somewhere else like New York City where prices were so high before moving westward towards Colorado Springs but now feels more affordable thanks largely due its lower cost living expenses compared daily expenses back east across the country such
Jobs and the cost of living
Denver is a great place for workers. The city has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country and it's affordable to live here. It also boasts a large population of young professionals: millennials make up nearly 40% of Denver's population!
Denver has become a hub for tech companies and startups, too. If you're interested in working in the tech industry, then Denver is definitely worth exploring.
The outdoor activities
Denver is a great place to go hiking, biking, and skiing. There are parks and open spaces everywhere that are perfect for outdoor activities. You can also go rock climbing in Red Rocks if you want some more action!
Culture and arts
Denver is home to many museums, galleries, and theaters. The Denver Center for the Performing Arts (DCPA) hosts several Broadway shows each year as well as performances by artists such as Billy Joel and Michael Crawford. It also includes concert halls, an opera house, and a children's theater in its repertoire. The Denver Art Museum displays more than 80,000 pieces from all over the world including works from famous artists such as Frida Kahlo and Georgia O'Keeffe. History Colorado Center is another popular destination that covers two floors of exhibits about Colorado history in addition to offering daily lectures on its grounds during summer months.
The Denver Botanic Gardens have an extensive collection of plants; they also host annual events like the International Orchid Show or Holiday Train Show which attract thousands of visitors annually while providing opportunities for families to spend quality time together at these events (if you're interested in taking part in these activities make sure you check out their website). Finally, there's the Denver Zoo where visitors can see animals from around the world up close; it's one of those places where you feel like you're actually transported somewhere else entirely!
Sports fans are aplenty
Denver is home to the Denver Broncos, one of the most famous football teams in the country. The Broncos have been around since 1960 and have won two Super Bowls (and lost another), so you know they must be good at football.
The Rockies are also a professional baseball team that plays its games in Coors Field, one of the most beautiful stadiums in all of sports history. Coors Field has hosted three All-Star games and was recently ranked as one of America's top five ballparks by ESPN Magazine.
Plus, Denver has plenty more professional sports teams: The Colorado Avalanche ice hockey team; two basketball teams: The Nuggets (formerly known as the Nugs) and Rockets; three soccer clubs: FC Denver, Colorado Rapids FC and Colorado Mammoth Hockey Club; plus four lacrosse teams: Outlaws Lacrosse Club Blue/Red/White Teams as well as Bandits Lacrosse Club Black/Gold Teams
Denver is a great place to live.
Denver is a great place to live. With its natural beauty and diversity, there are many things to do in Denver. In addition, the economy has been doing well lately, with plenty of jobs and affordable housing options for people looking to relocate there.
This makes it an ideal place for you and your family or friends who are looking for new homes or apartments in the area!
Opportunities and services offered to aid in employment

Looking for something fun and totally outside the (candy) box for you and your special someone to do for Valentine's Day? Something totally different and a little bit off-the-wall? Then keep reading! Most of us enjoy spooky TV shows and movies, right? We love that delicious adrenaline rush of being creeped out just a bit by thoughts of ghosts and the paranormal! If that sounds like you - and/or your special Valentine - then keep reading! Wouldn't it be big fun for you and your Valentine to spend a night (or weekend) at a haunted hotel? Just imagine what you might experience! And think of the bragging rights you'll have when recounting your ghostly adventures to family and friends! As part of my work as a psychic and medium, I have traveled extensively and stayed at some of the most interesting - and haunted - hotels in the United States. I like to stay at places that have a rich history, combined with stories about the spirits that reportedly roam throughout the properties. I have seen and heard otherworldly things that would send delicious little goose bumps up and down the spines of most people! Below is a list of some of the haunted hotels that I have enjoyed visiting and predict that you will enjoy visiting, too. New York City: The Jane Hotel - Some of the survivors of the sinking of the Titanic stayed in the building that is now the Jane Hotel in NYC's Greenwich Village. Guests report seeing ghostly apparitions and hearing the sound of sobbing . And the elevator often appears to have a mind of its own, traveling up at down between floors randomly. Guest rooms are inspired by luxury ship and train cabins and tend to be on the small side, many with shared baths. If you desire an en suite bathroom, choose to stay in one of the Captain's Cabins. Added bonus: You're in NYC! There is so much to see and do! Visit all the sites and see a Broadway show!
New York State - Catskills area: Burn Brae Mansion in Glen Spey, NY - Spectral apparitions and ghostly sounds are often heard by guests at this lovely bed and breakfast that was once the elaborate Victorian home of the widow of George Ross MacKenzie, third president of the Singer Sewing Machine Company. Other unexplained occurrences include doors opening and slamming shut; the sound of children playing; the sound of animals when no animals are present; and the sound of an organ playing, although there is no organ in the house. During my visit there, I distinctly smelled cookies baking in the downstairs area, but no one was baking cookies. Added bonus: The surrounding area is beautiful! Go for a hike, horseback riding, rafting, etc. Los Angeles, California: Millennium Biltmore Hotel - The ghost of Elizabeth Short is said to haunt the Biltmore. Ms. Short was last seen alive at the Biltmore shortly before her gruesome demise in 1947 and that still unsolved case has been dubbed "The Black Dahlia Murder." Soldiers who stayed in the building during and after World War II and young children are also said to roam around the hotel. Perhaps iconic stars from bygone Hollywood days pay post mortem visits to The Biltmore? Added bonus: Hollywood, with all its star studded sites, is close by...and so are California beaches! Atlanta, Georgia: Georgian Terrace - In December of 1939, this hotel hosted the "Gone With the Wind" Gala after the movie's premiere in downtown Atlanta. Clark Gable (and wife, Carole Lombard), Vivien Leigh (and future husband, Laurence Olivier) and other stars of the movie were in attendance. Some say that a gangland-style murder and other deaths have occurred here and there are frequent reports of ghostly activity occurring within the hotel. Added bonus: The haunted Fox Theatre is across the street from the hotel...and you're close to downtown ATL. Austin, Texas Driskill Hotel - This lavish hotel, located in downtown Austin and completed in 1882, was built by Colonel Jesse Driskill, a cattleman who spent his entire fortune to build "the finest hotel south of St. Louis." He is said to haunt the hotel, along with a little girl who fell down the grand staircase while chasing her runaway ball and two brides who allegedly took their own lives in the bathtub of room 525, exactly 20 years apart. Added bonus: There are great places to eat, drink and be merry nearby. Do your part to help "Keep Austin Weird"! Denver, Colorado Brown Palace - One of the spirits that is said to haunt the Brown Palace is a young boy, dressed in Victorian era clothing, who has been seen rifling through the luggage of hotel guests. During one of my stays there, I returned to my room to discover that little intruder looking inside my backpack that was sitting on a chair! When we saw each other, we both gasped and he instantaneously vanished, leaving me startled and wide-eyed! Added bonus: The hella haunted Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado is about an hour drive from downtown Denver. The stately hotel was the inspiration for author Stephen King's best selling novel, "The Shining," which he wrote after he and his wife were guests there. The hotel has been featured on numerous paranormal TV shows. Kansas City, Missouri area Belvoir Winery and Inn - This cozy and comfortable, yet quite elegant, 9 room bed and breakfast, with its 1,500 square feet bridal suite, is located in Liberty, Missouri on the site of a huge former Odd Fellows complex. The inn was once an orphanage, so the sights and sounds of children who once called this building their home are regularly seen and heard by Belvoir guests. Numerous television shows have filmed at the inn and on the property, including Kindred Spirits, Ghost Adventures, Ghost Hunters and American Pickers. Added bonus: Have a glass or two of Belvoir's wines or your favorite cocktail at the inn's lovely bar located on the main level. And visit George, the inn's "mascot," who just happens to be a real skeleton! New Hampshire Omni Mount Washington Hotel - Located in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, this property is simply spectacular! The most prominent spirit that is said to haunt the hotel is Princess Carolyn, former owner of the hotel, whose lovely suite is now available for guests to occupy. The hotel's dining room has a permanently set up table for Princess Carolyn in case she happens to stop in for lunch or dinner. Added bonus: Sightings of the elusive Bigfoot have been reported in the area! Soak up the gorgeous scenery! Take the cog railway to the top of Mt. Washington. Go skiing on the nearby slopes during winter months. Boston, Massachusetts Omni Parker House Hotel - Rich in history and hauntings, the Parker house is the birthplace of Boston Cream Pie and Parker House Rolls! The Kennedy family, arguably America's "royal family," often visited this hotel. It is said that future president John F. Kennedy proposed to Jacqueline Bouvier at a table in the hotel's restaurant. At one time, civil rights activist Malcolm X, Vietnamese revolutionary leader Ho Chi Minh and celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse were employees of the hotel. While staying there, I was confused when I encountered the spirit of John Wilkes Booth, the man who assassinated President Abraham Lincoln. My encounter finally made sense when the hotel's historian told me that Booth had frequently stayed at the hotel and had even practiced firing his gun nearby. Added bonus: Granary Burying Ground (cemetery), final resting place of numerous Revolutionary War patriots, including Paul Revere, Samuel Adams and John Hancock, is nearby Tampa, Florida area The Don Cesar - Affectionately known as "The Pink Palace" and located in St. Pete Beach, not far from Tampa on Florida's west coast, this hotel, like others on my list, is said to be haunted by its original owner. Wealthy New Englander Thomas Rowe built the hotel in 1925 in remembrance of his unrequited love for a lovely Spanish opera singer. The star crossed lovers are said to haunt "The Don," as are members of the New York Yankees baseball team, including Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, due to the fact members of the team once stayed at the hotel during spring training. Other reported spectral guests include gangster Al Capone and World War II era soldiers who may have stayed (and died) there while the building was being used as a convalescent hospital for aviators and pilots. Added bonus: The hotel has a lovely Gulf of Mexico beach. San Francisco, California Queen Anne Hotel - A charming Victorian era boutique hotel located in the Pacific Heights neighborhood. Both the public areas and guests rooms are furnished in an eclectic style. The hotel was once an exclusive boarding school for young ladies, as well as a brothel that housed "ladies of the night." The headmistress of the girl's school, Miss Mary Lake, reportedly haunts the hotel, sometimes unpacking suitcases, tucking guests in at night and singing to them while they fall asleep. The most haunted room is said to be room 410, which was once Miss Mary Lake's office. Voodoo queen Mary Ellen Pleasant lived across the street from the hotel in the 1800's and it is thought that perhaps her spirit also roams the halls of the Queen Anne. Added bonus: Enjoy all that The Golden Gate City has to offer! Ride a cable car; eat some great seafood at a waterfront restaurant; visit Fisherman's Wharf and the spectacular Palace of Fine Arts, built for the 1915 World's Fair. Portland, Oregon The Benson - A world class luxury hotel that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Built by Simon Benson and opening its doors in 1913, it is believed that Mr. Benson is the primary spirit who haunts the hotel. He is frequently seen on the grand staircase, in the hotel bar and dining room, and on the 7th, 9th and 12th floors of the hotel. A small and mischievous little boy, whom people assume is the ghost of one of Benson's sons, often appears and plays pranks on hotel guests. The ghost of a former porter who worked at The Benson is also sometimes seems, as well as the spectral images of a lady in white (doesn't every haunted property have a lady in white? LOL) and a lady in blue. Added bonus: Take a trip to see the nearby and spectacularly beautiful Columbia River Gorge and Multnomah Falls! New Orleans, Louisiana Bourbon Orleans Hotel - Once the location of the Sisters of the Holy Family's convent, girl's school, medical ward and orphanage, the Bourbon Orleans is reportedly haunted by the spirits of those who resided there during that earlier time. A Confederate soldier has also been seen at the hotel, as well as a lonely ghost dancer, seen dancing solo in the hotel's ballroom. The 3rd and 6th floors are said to be some of the most haunted areas. Added bonus: Laissez les bon temps rouler and enjoy all of the delicious and decadent delights that The Big Easy readily serves up! Savannah, Georgia East Bay Inn - This stately old building was built in the mid-1800's and once housed the offices of cotton merchants, as well as warehouses for cotton. In the mid-1980's, the property opened as a charming inn with 28 guest rooms. The rooms are spacious, with wooden floors, exposed brick establishing walls and high ceilings. A friendly ghost named Charley, a former worker in the building, allegedly haunts the inn. It is claimed that he is heard walking the halls late and night and sometimes will jiggle the doorknobs. Witnesses have said that lights flicker and some of their personal belongings mysteriously disappear. Room 325, known as "Charley's Room," is said to be the most haunted. Added bonus: Is there really anyplace in Savannah that isn't haunted? Visit them all! Walk along River Street. Take a ride on the riverboat. Put on your walking shoes and visit Savannah's numerous squares. And don't miss a visit to the magnificently beautiful Bonaventure Cemetery. San Antonio, Texas The Menger Hotel - The land on which the Menger sits is part of the historic site of the Battle of the Alamo. It is said that between 32 and 45 ghosts haunt the Menger. (Who came up with that number?!?) Among those ghosts are Teddy Roosevelt; Sallie White, a former chambermaid at the hotel who was shot nearby by her common law husband and died on the hotel's 2nd floor; and Richard King, a cattle baron who often stayed at the Menger and died in his suite on the 3rd floor. If you are brave enough, you can stay in the King Ranch Suite where Richard King died and sleep in the same bed where he took his last breath! Added bonus: Visit The Alamo. Walk along the River Walk. Dine in some of San Antonio's fabulous eateries. San Diego, California (Coronado Island) Hotel del Coronado - The elegant hotel, located on Coronado Island, has a resident ghost named Kate Morgan. Kate was a guest at the hotel in 1892 and killed herself with a gun a few days after an ugly break-up with her male lover. Guests at the hotel have reported seeing Kate's ghost walking in the hallways and along the hotel's lovely beach. During my visits to the hotel, I always hope to encounter the spirit of Marilyn Monroe, who shot the film, "Some Like It Hot," on the property back in 1958. Added bonus: While in the San Diego area, pay a visit to the haunted Whaley House in Old Town San Diego, where you can also shop at some of the area's charming stores. Washington, DC Hay-Adams Hotel - Washington socialite Marian Adams, known by the nickname Clover, reportedly haunts the Hay-Adams. Clover was an amateur photographer who died after ingesting some of the potassium cyanide that she used while developing her photographs. Her death was ruled a suicide, but some believed that she had been murdered. The ghost of Clover Adams haunts the hotel's 4th floor. Maids have told stories of hearing a woman sobbing, calling out their names and asking "What do you want?" in unoccupied rooms. Some guests say that visits by Clover's spirit are accompanied by the scent of almonds. Potassium cyanide, which caused Clover's death, is extracted from almonds! Added bonus: Visit the many beautiful monuments in DC, as well as The Smithsonian and nearby Arlington Cemetery.

Renting on a Budget: How to Save on Utilities and Other Apartment Costs in Colorado Springs
Finding the perfect place to live in Colorado Springs can be an exciting yet challenging task, especially if you're aiming to stay within a budget. With a range of options from luxury studio apartments in Colorado Springs to affordable apartments in Colorado Springs, navigating the rental market requires some strategic planning. Here’s how you can save on utilities and other apartment costs, while still finding a great place to call home.
1. Choose the Right Size Apartment
The size of the apartment you rent can significantly impact your overall costs. Smaller units like studio apartments for rent or 1 bedroom apartments Colorado Springs are often more affordable and come with lower utility bills. If you’re considering sharing your space, 2 bedroom apartments Colorado Springs or 3 bedroom apartments near me might offer a more economical choice when split among roommates.
2. Energy Efficiency Matters
When looking for apartments for rent downtown Colorado Springs or exploring other neighborhoods, focus on energy efficiency. Check if the apartments have energy-efficient appliances and good insulation. Modern windows and energy-saving HVAC systems can reduce your utility bills. Studios for rent in Colorado Springs or luxury studio apartments Colorado Springs can vary in energy efficiency, so it’s wise to ask landlords about their energy practices.
3. Compare Utilities and Additional Costs
Utilities can add up quickly, so it’s essential to compare costs. Ask current tenants about their average monthly utility bills before committing. Affordable apartments in Colorado Springs might have lower utility costs, but this can vary widely. Be aware of what’s included in the rent; sometimes, utilities are covered, which can be a big cost-saver.
4. Opt for Well-Located Apartments
Choosing apartments near major amenities or transportation can help save on additional costs like gas or commuting expenses. Apartments for rent downtown Colorado Springs often offer proximity to work, shopping, and dining options, potentially reducing your need for a car or long commutes.
5. Look for Special Deals or Discounts
Often, landlords offer special deals or discounts for new tenants. This might include reduced rent for the first month, waived application fees, or discounts on longer lease terms. Keep an eye out for these offers, whether you’re searching for 1 bedroom apartments near me or studio apartments near me. The best apartments in Colorado Springs often have promotions, so don’t hesitate to ask.
6. Consider the Cost of Living in Various Neighborhoods
The cost of living can vary greatly from one neighborhood to another. While downtown areas might have higher rent, they might also reduce other living costs. Compare the rent of 1 bedroom apartments for rent in different parts of Colorado Springs to find the most cost-effective option. For example, 2 bedroom apartments Colorado Springs in suburban areas might be cheaper but could increase your transportation costs.
7. Negotiate with Landlords
Don’t be afraid to negotiate with landlords, especially if you’re interested in a luxury studio apartment Colorado Springs or a higher-end 1 bedroom apartment for rent. Landlords might be willing to offer a lower rent or additional perks if you show you’re a strong candidate.
8. Energy-Saving Tips
In your new apartment, practice energy-saving habits such as turning off lights when not in use, unplugging electronics, and using energy-efficient light bulbs. These small actions can make a significant difference in your monthly utility bills, regardless of whether you choose a studio for rent Colorado Springs or a more spacious 3 bedroom apartment.
For those seeking an affordable yet high-quality living experience in Colorado Springs, VIM Apartments stand out as an excellent option. Offering a range of options from cozy studio apartments to spacious 2 bedroom apartments Colorado Springs, VIM Apartments combines affordability with modern amenities. Lewisburg Named Top Zoom Town by Forbes
The COVID-19 pandemic is propelling many remote workers to flee crowded cities in search of more bucolic settings. Some of these destinations were, in fact, once considered vacation getaways. NPR’s https://www.npr.org/sections/money/2020/09/08/909680016/zoom-towns-and-the-new-housing-market-for-the-2-americas" aria-label="Planet Money" style="box-sizing: border-box; color: rgb(0, 56, 145); cursor: pointer; background-color: transparent;">https://ift.tt/3jX2FIi" style="box-sizing: border-box;">Planet Money defines “zoom towns” as housing markets that are booming as remote work takes off—adding another term to our growing pandemic lexicon.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, many workers opted to live in urban centers close to—or within commuting distance—of their offices and looked forward to vacations. Now, they find themselves living and working in high-rent and sometimes high-rise apartments with only limited space, with vastly diminished opportunities to travel for work or leisure. Because of social distancing measures and closures (including restaurants, theaters, nightlife and cultural institutions), they are less able to take advantage of many of the perks that initially drew them to their once-vibrant communities.
Remote workers are craving more space, privacy and tranquility as well as convenient opportunities to spend time outdoors and get closer to nature. Although interest in zoom towns has been primarily fueled by millennials, the desire to move is also being felt acutely by families living in close quarters whose children are now learning remotely at home.
Finding a place to call home
Recent trends in the real estate market reflect this shift: Rental vacancies are surging and rental costs are declining in urban areas—as housing prices are increasing and inventory is becoming more scarce in suburbs and rural areas.
Online real estate market http://zillow.mediaroom.com/2020-09-08-Remote-Work-Could-Open-Homeownership-to-Nearly-Two-Million-Renter-Households" aria-label="Zillow" style="box-sizing: border-box; color: rgb(0, 56, 145); cursor: pointer; background-color: transparent;">Zillow estimates that some two million renter households may now be in the market for home ownership because they are able to telecommute.
Based on media reports and/or out-of-town search traffic and home growth provided by Zillow, the seven towns below exemplify those that have been coined zoom towns:
Kingston, New York
Located in Ulster County about 90 miles north of Manhattan, https://kingston-ny.gov/Tourism" aria-label="Kingston, New York" style="box-sizing: border-box; color: rgb(0, 56, 145); cursor: pointer; background-color: transparent;">Kingston, New York topped the list in out-of town interest on Zillow, showing a traffic growth of 116% in July alone. The city offers the lure of a trendy, revitalized historic district; vibrant arts community; easy access to local parks, and opportunities for fishing, bicycling, rock-climbing, skiing and snowboarding.
Lewisburg, Tennessee
Set on rolling hills, https://www.tnvacation.com/middle-tennessee/lewisburg" aria-label="Lewisburg, Tennessee" style="box-sizing: border-box; color: rgb(0, 56, 145); cursor: pointer; background-color: transparent;">Lewisburg, Tennessee is an historic, small town with a population of less than 12,000 people. Located between the larger cities of Nashville and Huntsville, both about one hour away by car, it offers remote workers the best of both worlds (small town and larger cities). Housing is affordable and the wildlife-rich Duck River offers opportunities for fishing, canoeing and kayaking.
Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts

Divided into six intimate towns, this picture-perfect island offers beaches, boating and wildlife sanctuaries
Butte, Montana

Median prices for single family homes in Butte, the fifth largest city in Montana, have risen more than 10 percent over a year ago. Residents praise its low population density, wide open spaces and abundance of recreational opportunities. Hikers, climbers and mountaineers will find it appealing to live about four hours from Glacier National Park,.
The Hamptons, New York

To meet demand, many short-term rental properties were turned into long-term ones or put up for sale.
Aspen, Colorado

The combination of an historic downtown, breathtaking scenery and posh resorts have made it a popular vacation destination that is now being sought out by remote workers interested a high-quality of life. Cape Cod, Massachusetts
https://www.capecodchamber.org/" aria-label="Cape Cod, Massachusetts" style="box-sizing: border-box; color: rgb(0, 56, 145); cursor: pointer; background-color: transparent;">Cape Cod, Massachusetts has long been a prime summer getaway, known for its quaint towns that offer boating, golfing, beaches, hiking and biking trails, arts and culture, charming shops, excellent seafood and more. Literally a cape off the coast of Massachusetts, its communities, each with its own history and traditions and culture, are divided into three sections. In an effort to explain the recent surge in real estate prices and sales, Barnstable County (Massachusetts) Register of Deeds John Meade told https://www.barnstablepatriot.com/news/20200911/cape-cod-real-estate-experts-say-its-too-soon-to-draw-conclusions-from-sales-boom" aria-label="The Barnstable Patriot" style="box-sizing: border-box; color: rgb(0, 56, 145); cursor: pointer; background-color: transparent;">https://ift.tt/3cLlaNu" style="box-sizing: border-box;">The Barnstable Patriot that strong sales may be “powered by work-from-home city dwellers relocating to the Cape.”
For those unhappy with their current living situation and seeking a truly “domestic” getaway, a visit to a “zoom town” might help pique your fancy before you make the plunge.
A few caveats to assuage your wanderlust:
Although remote workers can now https://www.nytimes.com/article/virtual-tour-real-estate.html" aria-label="visit homes virtually" style="box-sizing: border-box; color: rgb(0, 56, 145); cursor: pointer; background-color: transparent;">visit homes virtually, a recent Zillow https://www.zillow.com/research/online-buying-selling-27568/" aria-label="survey" style="box-sizing: border-box; color: rgb(0, 56, 145); cursor: pointer; background-color: transparent;">survey found that a majority of buyers (64%) say they want to tour a home in person before purchasing it. “That said, not everyone feels comfortable traveling during the pandemic,” says a Zillow spokesperson.

Once affordable, Phoenix rents among fastest rising in US - real estate
Aspen Day-Flynn and her boyfriend, Travis Tolin, were thinking of moving back to her native Washington state this fall when their Phoenix landlord helped give them the push. The monthly rent on their two-bedroom house jumped from $1,000 to $1,500 because the owner planned to renovate.“It really pushed us out the door faster,” said Day-Flynn, a 23-year-old hairstylist. She and Tolin, a 25-year-old tattoo artist, found an apartment that’s similar in size to their 986-square-foot (110-square-yard) Phoenix house for $1,600 in Ballard, outside downtown Seattle. While it’s among the priciest U.S. areas to live, the couple is earning more money there.Phoenix long has been considered an inexpensive place to live, but that may be changing. Even some middle-class people are struggling to make ends meet as the desert city experiences some of the nation’s fastest-rising rents, jumping as much as 7% over the past year. The metro areas of Miami; Knoxville, Tennessee; and Raleigh-Durham and Charlotte, North Carolina, as well as Washington, D.C.; Denver and Colorado Springs, Colorado, are among others with rapidly soaring rents. Now the fifth-largest city in the U.S., Phoenix has become a victim of its own success as Californians seek cheaper housing and snowbirds fleeing winter weather buy homes or rent apartments that sit empty during the scorching summers.Advocates say more initiatives are needed to create affordable housing, like a non-profit financial institution that provides loans to build apartments for working families along the city’s light rail.Better funding of the state’s housing trust fund also would help, said Joan Serviss of the non-profit Arizona Housing Coalition. The fund that once provided $40 million to help with housing issues was capped at $2.5 million after the recession. She said that although state lawmakers this year approved a one-time injection of $15 million, it’s far from enough. While it’s more expensive to live in Seattle, San Francisco and other cities known for a housing crisis and homelessness, Phoenix rents are outpacing salaries.A worker in Arizona’s capital must earn nearly $20 an hour to afford an average two-bedroom apartment, according to the National Low Income Housing Coalition. The non-profit says the average Arizona renter now earns about $17 an hour. The state’s minimum wage is $11.“We are one of the least affordable places in the United States” for housing, said Mark Stapp, executive director of Arizona State University’s master’s degree program in real estate development. “It’s not only a social issue, it’s an economic issue. Employees need places where they can afford to live.”Tenants have few options, with Arizona law largely favouring landlords. Rent control, like the 7% cap in annual increases that Oregon lawmakers approved this year, seems unlikely in a state largely controlled by Republicans.A new luxury apartment complex with a pool and gym facing Phoenix’s light rail asks about $1,600 a month for a one-bedroom apartment and $2,330 for three bedrooms. Older single-family homes for rent nearby include an 890-square-foot (99-square-yard) historic house with two bedrooms priced at $2,300.A $600 studio can still be found to the west or the south, but in older buildings without amenities.Metro Phoenix has hovered near the top of several commercial real estate databases for fastest-growing rents over the previous year.Yardi Matrix ranked metro Phoenix No. 4 nationally, with a 6.1% increase in apartment rents over a year. REIS by Moody’s Analytics put it at No. 2, saying monthly average rents in the Phoenix market surged 7% from the third quarter of 2018 to the third quarter of 2019. Only metro Miami saw a larger jump, at 7.5%, while the nationwide increase was just over 4%.Home prices also are rising. September figures from S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller Indices showed metro Phoenix leading the way — at 5.8% — in the highest year-over-year gains for home prices among 20 markets nationwide, followed by the Las Vegas area with 4.7% and Charlotte, North Carolina, with 4.6%.Evictions are also up, with courts issuing nearly 44,000 eviction judgments last year, slightly more than 2017, an Arizona Republic study found.Carisa McAuliffe, her boyfriend and her two sons were evicted in September from a two-bedroom Phoenix apartment less than a month after withholding their $1,400 rent to protest problems like bed bugs.McAuliffe, 37, said in her native California, tenants sometimes don’t pay to persuade landlords to fix problems. She didn’t know Arizona landlords can quickly evict tenants who withhold rent for any reason. McAuliffe left her computer security job to sort things out. She and her boyfriend, who buys and sells cars, are staying with friends while the boys, ages 2 and 5, live with their grandmother.Phoenix, like many other places, faces a shortage of affordable housing going back a decade to the Great Recession. Overall, the city’s housing supply is at about 4.7% — the national average, according to REIS.Thomas Egan, president and CEO of the Phoenix housing non-profit FSL, said the state needs about 165,000 affordable units costing renters less than 30 percent of their income. Just 2,000 units were built this year, he said.Nationally, housing inventory has been tight since the recession, said Andrew Aurand of the Low Income Housing Coalition. He said there are fewer units available in coastal cities and metro areas with fast-rising rents like Phoenix, where people can spend more than a third or even half their earnings on housing.Phoenix non-profit development organizations like Chicanos Por la Causa pick up some slack, managing about 2,300 affordable and market rate units.Native American Connections just opened a 64-unit development downtown where income, unit size and number of occupants are used to calculate rents ranging from a $440 studio for a lower-earning person to a $940 three-bedroom apartment for a family earning slightly more, CEO Diana Yazzie Devine said.“It’s no secret that Phoenix is facing an affordable housing crisis,” U.S. Rep. SEE: COLORADO
As a girl who loves traveling and thrives on experiencing new places, you could say I was more than excited to visit Denver, Colorado for the first time.
Allow me to give you a little more insight about this magical place.
Denver is the capital of Colorado. And Downtown Denver is beyond amazing! It has some of the best views and ultramodern activities one could ask for. It's famous for its Rocky Mountain National Park (which is not actually in Denver), being a mile high and most recently, a huge boom in craft beer and legal marijuana, bringing plenty of tourism to the city! I had first heard about Denver from a close friend who after seeing the place had become impelled to move there. My boyfriend and I love to travel together because well, we always have the most amazing time everywhere we go. He just graduated from college and we thought a trip to Denver would be the perfect way to celebrate. So when we found out Spirit Airline tickets were only $108 each for an 8am roundtrip flight, we obviously were ecstatic. Man, were we wrong. This flight was PACKED! Before the departure, I saved about $20 buying neck pillows ahead of time at TJMax rather than waiting for the crazy airport priced ones to keep us comfortable. I fell asleep the entire ride; my boyfriend on the other hand is more on the impatient side and just wanted to arrive.
Upon arriving we got our rental car and headed into the city. A rental car is pretty necessary for Denver (the must see sights are at least a 1-3 hour drive away.) Unless you are content with staying downtown, then Uber of Lyft would suffice. Our drive gave us the time we needed to make some decisions before we got to the city.
Things I loved about DENVER:
Food trucks everywhere. Apparently on Tuesdays, across the street from the Colorado State Capitol, were at least 30 food trucks filled with variety and culture from different restaurants. This was a dream come true for us! We picked a delicious dish from a Latin American truck and headed over to the state capitol.
The state capitol is a Corinthian-style, gold-domed building offering tours, exhibits & photo ops at 1 mile above sea level (5280 ft!). After capturing the stunning outer view, my boyfriend then noticed the dome and was determined to head to the top for the collaborated city/mountain view. We headed inside, began a lengthy, boring tour and snuck away from the crowd climbing the flights of stairs to the top only to find a locked door to the dome stating guests must be accompanied by tour guide. Figures, but the little kids inside of us insisted. Is not seeing the dome view detrimental to your trip? Absolutely not! Colorado has much more to offer.
The Denver Art Museum was incomparable to any museum I have been to before. While I was expecting a quaint walk through a building filled with old, unrelatable artwork, this place was the opposite.
The good: The first thing you see when you walk in is a store. Hello, shopping! This amazing store was filled with beautiful art, Van Gogh inflatable art, handmade jewelry, toys, decor..ding ding- we have a winner!
The better: Before you even walk in the door to the first exhibit, there is a huge room for FASHION. Yes, I repeat, an art museum..with an entire part dedicated to the art of fashion. Is it just me or does this never happen at museums? The room had body mannequins and drawers filled with different designing material, labeled on the outside of each medium sized bin. And so much more but you will just have to see this place for yourself!
The best: Everything was interactive. Pieces you could walk through. Some pieces filled the entire room. In one exhibit, there was a table and chairs next to a shelf. People were sitting at the table so I glanced as I walked by to see what they were doing, they were writing in little pieces of blue paper. I then looked at the shelf where I found rows of white papers labeled at the top “I want to have a conversation about..” and behind them, the blue papers sat. There were tons of different handwritings, multiple ideas of conversation, cries for help, advice on jobs, opinions on politics. It was a beautiful thing..inspiring to see such an anonymous way of sharing thoughts.
Things I loved about OUR PLACE:
We began searching online for the perfect hotel within our budget months ago. The thing is, the hotels in Denver are pricy! My boyfriend and I do like to feel relaxed and stress free so the options that were affordable for us wouldn’t do, as far as luxury goes. We headed over to an AIRBNB where you can get $40 free travel credit for inviting a friend to the site, AND a room with a sleep number bed, smart TV, kitchen, and patio with mountain views for less than a hotel without the luxuries would have cost.
Things I didn’t love about OUR PLACE:
The company. Me being a girl who tends to act on impulse and get a little too excited booked without realizing we were actually not in an apartment. We were living in the finished basement of someone’s home! Thankfully it wasn't too bad because we had our own private entry and as much privacy as we could get anywhere else. Once we checked in, we didn’t see our hosts the entire time. The downsides came in because it did become a little weird for me hearing people above me walk around & doors closing. Funny thing is, when we checked in our host asked us specifically to do a “mindfulness practice” of closing our doors quietly. I don't know about you but when I’m on a vacation, rules and responsibilities aren’t necessarily expected in my mind.
Things I loved about COLORADO:
Rocky Mountain National Park
This was the best place I have ever been in my entire life. I’m writing this after I have already returned from my trip and I still feel on top of the world. They say you can’t buy happiness but let me tell you, I think I did. If you are someone like me who enjoys remarkable, yet spine chilling views, this is for you. A little endorphin rush never hurt anyone.
If you don’t hike, there are driving routes that allow you to drive up to the curves which give you fantastic views. Once you park, there are smaller mountains that allow hiking which is what we chose to do instead of the longer trail hiking routes for more experienced hikers. The elevation gets much higher than just one mile at these kinds of parks, so if you are visiting from a place on sea level, be prepared to find yourself tired and dehydrated even without the hiking! Time it took to drive from Denver: About 1 hour 45 minutes.
On your way to RMNP, I suggest also stopping in Estes Park. A little mountain town next to Estes Lake, filled with local shops, a library and visitor center. Estes also has plenty of places to eat, but if you’re in the mood for some authentic Mexicano food, head over to La Cabana. It’s worth the 10 flights of stairs it will take you to get to the top. When you get there, sit out on the deck and enjoy some delicious fajitas with an absolutely lovely view.
After two days of 70 degree sunny weather, Denver hit us with a snowstorm. Perhaps a bit strange seeing it is almost June. But shit happens, so we headed to Boulder, skipping the two hour drive to Colorado Springs. It was a beautiful drive since the snow had stopped falling, and when we arrived I was prepared to start applying to the University of Colorado because this college town is so, so vibrant and filled with life. We drove to Pearl Street, a four block pedestrian mall in Boulder that stretched from 11th to 15th street, home to a number of street performers, iconic shops, sculptures and public art. We stopped by Flagstaff Mountain on the way back to Denver, a 7000 ft mountain you can drive up. The view of snowed out Boulder was worth the scary drive up, and we met three groups of other tourists also from Michigan at the little pitstops along the way to the top. Time it took to drive from Denver: About 40 minutes.
The food. Putting the fate of my stomach in the hands of my boyfriend for our last night out in Denver ended up being a wonderful idea. I have been truly blessed when it comes to letting him plan anything. Leave it in the hands of my boyfriend and he is sure to go above and beyond.
We arrived at The Populist and the first thing I thought was “Who’s house is this?” The restaurant itself had a very intimate vibe. It wasn’t very expansive, but the service was unreal. We had no wait, which was quite our luck considering they weren’t taking reservations and the place was utterly packed. The menu had only twenty items on it, which seemed to be my worst fear once I glanced at the small black paper with no explanation of a single dish. Just names and numbers baby. We ordered Marinated Mozzarella, Dungeness Crab Gnocchi, and Grilled Sirloin Bulgogi. Having no idea what to expect, these items were nothing less than phenomenal. The gnocchi was cooked French style, not Italian, which is probably what you are used to if you’re a seafood person. The gnocchi was not little soft dumplings but instead crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, less of an Italian flavor with no marinara sauce. The sirloin was to die for and everything was prepared “shareable.”
There probably isn’t one bad thing on the dessert menu. I’m guessing you could order the sorbet and your world would be changed. I’m not picky with my desserts. However, we wanted to try somewhere new so we headed to a bar that I don’t recall the name of, and this time around we went with the Smores Brownie with Vanilla Ice Cream. It was an edible cloud and it came with a marshmallow layer of love that was meant to be dipped into the ice cream. I died.
The next morning, after forcing my boyfriend to get a hot stone pedicure with me, the nail technicians knew we were visiting and suggested we eat breakfast at a local restaurant famous for their Lobster BLT called The Revelry Kitchen. He couldn’t get this BLT out of his head, so of course we had to go! From his facial expressions I could immediately tell he was in love with his food but I decided to take another route and go with the Lobster Stuffed Baker. Two eggs, melted cheddar cheese, black bean corn salsa, whipped potatoes, and cotija in a double stuffed baked potato stuffed with lobster. 10/10 would sell my soul for this breakfast again, or shall I say, piece of art on a plate.
Colorado is ABSOLUTELY A MUST SEE, breathtaking in every way. I hope my recommendations serve you well.
