Whatever goth died and/or left the scene in Vancouver BC, thank you.🙏🥀

The corset on the bottom right was made IN Vancouver! The brand is New World Designs, but it no longer exists here. And there's no brand on the one on the left, but I've wanted a Vivienne Westwood Stature of Liberty-style corset for a long time (I'm too fat to fit a real one). Hell yeah. I got all of them for $25.

So. Luvafair. I've geeked out about this legendary long-closed club in Vancouver before. It's where the punks, goths and new romantics used to hang out in the 80s. Martin and Dave once danced on an amp there! There were lifestyler vampires that used to hang out there! There was moral panic around it every few months!
Anyway, there is FINALLY an event happening, and one of the original DJs is playing.
I inadvertently made friends with someone who was one of the promoters back in the day. She came up to me at Depeche Mode night in December because she loved my "vibes", and we've chatted since then. She very casually and very drunkenly dropped some of her lore, and I am insanely jealous. I wasn't even alive for its heyday - it closed in 2003 when I was 13 lmao. But I'm going to have an amazing time being a poser. She said I'll probably be one of the youngest people there and idgaf. I wish I had local peers around my age as into new wave as I am, but maybe I'll meet a new friend there?? But also: IDGAF. I'll have an amazing time befriending people my parent's age. No prob.
Lastly, I got all of these vinyls for $60. WHO would give up their Eno/Hyde?????

The west side of the 1200-block Seymour (between Drake and Davie) has seen massive changes in the past 60 years. 1275 Seymour in particular has gone from grease to mousse to condo roost. The address was General Truck Sales in 1946. Then flash forward to the 70s New Wave era and it became a popular night club that lasted until 2003. Today the location is the 32-storey Elan tower.
The disco’s exterior shot is from luvafair.com, the interior from Tom Harrison at The Province and the high-rise pic from condoinvancouver.com.
As for the moody, noir garage photo by Don Coltman, it is one of 100,000 images available for free online viewing at the City of Vancouver Archives website.
