The Hole: A Short Story by me
There was once a little creature called Lynx.
Lynx lived on a star. He’d wander around, his little glowing feet pattering on the star’s bright surface, as he’d search for star pebbles and salamanders and star kelp.
He’d spend his days building little towers and homes for the salamanders to crawl on and play with, he’d tie the star kelp around the salamander’s bellies and walk them around the star, his laughter twinkling as he’d watch the sparkling salamanders flounder around and gulp up star juice.
Lynx spent his mornings and day-times sleeping, his face burrowed into the back of a salamander buddy, as a bunch of them covered his tiny glowing body with their tough, warm scales. While he slept, he dreamt of eating star-berry pies all night and having star juice with his salamander friends. At night, when the star was glowing happily, Lynx woke to start his day and all the salamanders pattered away to go hide in the star kelp for him to find again.
One morning, Lynx’s salamander friends didn’t come to cover him with their warm scales. He was worried and he was alone and he was very cold. The star during the day wasn’t as hot and glowing as it was at night, and everything was too dark and scary then. Lynx didn’t like it very much.
He stuffed his shiny face into the star, trying to sleep as he normally would, but he couldn’t help thinking about how cold it was and how lonely he was.
Lynx looked up and covered his eyes in the darkness because of how scary it was. He cried out for his salamander friends. He didn’t like this game very much.
None of the salamanders sparkling little bodies came wobbling to him. None of their little pointy heads poked out from the star juice puddles or the thick bushes of sea kelp.
Lynx was very, very alone.
He shoved his face back into the ground and cried. His tears were brighter than the star had ever been, and soon Lynx was laying in a bright clear puddle of his tears. When he opened his eyes, he saw what he had done.
He tucked his face into the pool of tears, tossed his body around in it, and felt warm and safe finally. Lynx shut his eyes and fell asleep.
His dreams were haunted by the vanished salamanders, and he tossed and turned all day long.
When night came, the star glowed as usual, but still no salamanders. Lynx decided it was time for him to look for his salamander friends.
He bottled up some of star juice and started exploring the star. He knew of one place they could be: The Hole.
It was a deep dip in the star’s surface that all salamanders were afraid of and tried avoiding. Lynx knew that some salamanders had been stuck in The Hole before, tempted by the luscious and extra bright star juice there, they had fallen in and drowned. That’s why Lynx had to get there fast.
He galloped across the star, his tiny feet thumping, his little legs pumping. He kept running and running and running, endlessly, tirelessly, little puffs of twinkling air escaping his mouth as he ran.
Then he came to a sudden halt.
He had reached The Hole.
Lynx approached the edge of The Hole and looked down. There, at the bottom, was a huge pool of very brilliant star juice, and there, on the edges of it, were all the salamanders, trying their best to hold on to the walls of The Hole and not fall in and drown.
Lynx let out a little gasp. He dove head first into the star juice pool, hitting it with a small splash. He knew how to swim, and peddled his way to the salamanders. He gathered them, letting them sit on his back and head as he swam around and piled them all onto himself.
Finally, after finding them all, Lynx grabbed his little bundle of tied together star kelp and threw it up towards the top of the The Hole, around one of the jagged edges. He pulled himself and the salamanders out of the water and up the side of The Hole.
They were all so heavy. Little droplets of glowing sweat dripped down Lynx’s forehead and down his back. When he reached closer to the edge, some of the salamanders risked a jump towards the edge, and made it! They crawled away from the edge and waited for Lynx and the rest of the salamander friends.
Finally, after so much work and so many beads of sweat, Lynx reached the top.
The salamanders were saved.
Lynx was not alone anymore.
They celebrated by making a star-berry pie and drinking star juice all night long, and they never ever went anywhere near The Hole again.

WHIPLASH miya twins
street racing miya twins x reader
chapter three; phone number
16+ minors dni!
HEARING ATSUMU CALL YOU DARLIN' made your blood rush to your cheeks. Make no mistake, you've been called hun and other nicknames by a lot of people. But it was the way he said 'thanks Darlin' in a scratchy rural accent with a confident grin that gave you butterflies in your tummy.
"Welcome to the show, rookie," you said with a grin on your face, placing your hands on your hip. "Can you tell me your name?" You inquired as you shifted your weight onto your right leg and tapped your foot on the concrete.
"Atsumu. Miya Atsumu "He swirled the luggage in his right hand and held it there while leaning against his car, staring at you with a gaze you couldn't quite place. "Nice to meet you, Atsumu," you replied, gulping your spit and nodding.
"Darlin, what's your name?" He inquired, his words slurred as he scrutinized every inch of your luscious figure and the garments that hardly covered anything. "Y/n L/n," you said as you extended your hand for him to shake. He looked down at your hand and placed it on top of yours before dragging him into your chest with his hand.
He wrapped his arm around your waist and pressed your body against his before murmuring, "Nice to meet you y/n, let's meet sometime." He murmured, and you felt ticklish as the heat of his breath reached your ears.
You hummed in reply to his response, too flustered to say anything else. "For sure," you replied quietly as he removed his arm from around your waist, allowing you to catch your breath and process what had just happened. "Bye," you said as you turned back and walked away, waving your hand.
You turned to find Kuroo speaking with Kenma, who had his black hair in a sloppy bun with bleached tips, leaving strands of his hair in front. you can tell Kuroo wasn't in the best mood. but you decided to go check up on him like a good friend would do.
"yo you good" you walked up to the two guys who were inspecting the tire of kuroo's car which had seemed to gotten busted during the race. "mhm that new kid fucked up my tire" he snarled throwing the tool in his hand into the concrete ground.
"Must had gotten Lynx's new tire mod's, must got connections shit is hard to get" you crossed your arm looking back at Atsumu's tires and back to Kuroo's damaged tires. "you think you could help us get new tire's with mod better than his and fix it up a bit?" he sighed looking up at you with hope knowing you were the best with getting exclusive and illegal modification's for car parts. another way you made yourself useful in this business.
"of course, i'll see what i can do for you meeting up with my supplier later this week anyway" you shrugged taking your phone out your backpocket to glance at the time and your notifications.
"Thanks i appreciate it" he smiled softly cheering up a bit opening up his arms waiting for a hug from you as you rolled your eyes bending down to hug him rubbing his back a little before pulling away from his hug.
"no need to say your thanks you know i got you like always" "oh kenma i'll call you later about our design" you walked over to him mentioning it as he nodded in understanding before turning around and hugging you for a quick second before walking to his crew to help them out.
you chuckled at him being cute, you had helped kenma out with his design for a new car and was able to get your supplier to get an import of his car and you were planning to personally add your own modifications per his request just for him. it meant a lot to him plus you were looking to do him a favor for once.
"Y/n!" You heard Mia call you as you turn around seeing her hanging around bokuto and his crew waving as you let out a sigh walking towards her "what's up" you asked as she pulled away from Bokuto's hug and took your hand pulling you away.
"What's the tea with the new guy" she excitedly asked leaning on the fence. "Nothing really he was just flirty" you sighed putting your hands in your back pockets "nothing really cmon I know that's bull something else must had happened!" She rolled her eyes at your vauge response.
You felt paper in your back pocket before you pulled it out and it happened to be a phone number that was atsumu's. You raise your eyebrows unaware he had put it in your pocket. Not responding to her you show her the paper making her gasp. "I knew something else happened! You should call him later" she clasped her hands smiling.
"No way I'm calling him especially later" you scoffed putting the paper back in your pocket crossing your arms. "Why not? It's your chance to hook up with a new hot guy" she joked knowing you haven't gotten with a dude yet.
"I'll see about that"

After All, He Deserves It - Ch 4 Teaser
Title: After All, He Deserves It - A Tickle Kink fic Rating: M Genre: Romance, Hurt/comfort Link: AO3
Follow the official fanfic hashtag here
--
Thank you for being so patient guys! The next couple of chapters are nearly here.
There has been a lot of writing going on, but most of the work has been shifted around and saved for various chapters, so hopefully you should see a few updates coming your way soon!
For now, here is a teaser of chapter 4. Dr Robotnik is going to start spoiling Stone rotten from this point forth! *_*
In this chapter Robotnik is worrying himself sick about Stone, his bad dreams and why he keeps going for late night walks without telling him.
He wonders if he is missing home, and plans to finally tackle the issue that night, but wants to be gentle and spoil him rotten first.
So he runs the most luscious spa-bath for him, decorated with romantic candles, exotic flowers and scents to remind him of home, with rose petals trailing from the bathroom to the front door. (Spoiler: Massages, cuddles, romantic kisses, silliness, tickling...)
---
ASMR
The bath water ran hot and deep. The luscious loud pouring, rushing, wallowing and rippling sounds, as the whirlpool jets filled the giant wooden beech-coloured bathtub, transported him in blissful fantasy to nature-reclaimed island spas.
The perfumed bath soaks and oils dropped, dived, swam and glided, flipped and rolled luxuriously in pastel circles and forked rivers. Much like Koi fish, mini galaxies, drip paintings, or tropical undergrowth spreading rapidly in hot climates.
The gentle scents of the Middle East (and South Asia), enticing rare flowers and juicy fruit liberated his senses, as the cosy, sensual, musky and uplifting perfumes mixed, rose and dispersed.
Soft ruby-red rose petals floated on the waters surface lovingly, scattered artfully and delectably, their sweet smell and perfectly preserved dresses 'mini ethereal slices of home.' Two fuchsia-pink and ice-white lotus flowers danced, and spun calmly round each other like Apsara (Indian faeries, or cloud and water spirits.)
A mixture of cherry blossom petals and roses led the way to the bathroom, from the bedroom, and down the beech-coloured stairs leading to the cabin door.
Richly-coloured trails of hand-painted mandala tea-lights containing 'Midsummer's Night', flickered mysteriously around the bathroom. Spiritually. Protectively.
The attractive 'experience' had been comprised of citrus, herbaceous, woody, bergamot, lime, lavender, pine floral sage, cedarwood, vetiver, juniper berry, clary sage and moss. Otherwise described as 'an intoxicating and masculine blend of musk, patchouli, sage and mahogany cologne' - or Lynx, to those unfamiliar with this particular Yankee Candle.
Small vases of orchids and lilies, and bowls of potpourri scented with hop, lavender, jasmine and sandalwood posed elegantly in the four corners of the now-spa room. Each glass centrepiece was wrapped with tiny sparkling green leafy fairy lights, and had fuchsia rose petals and cherry blossoms scattered around the bases.
Pretty diffusers scented with Thyme, Mint and Eucalyptus puffed dreamily into the warm Spring night and, as the window was open letting in the scent of fresh grass and rain, a lovely breeze perfected the atmosphere.

Story of Cats With Dæmons
A fluffy black cat crouched in the shadows of an abandoned alleyway. He was standing beside a silver trash can, the top resting against the side. His ears flicked toward the can as scrabbling was heard from within, possibly something dangerous; but he was clearly not afraid. In fact, he hardly glanced over, he hardly moved a muscle.
The trash can shifted and the lid fell over with a crash. Now the cat looked over at it, though the movement was slow; still, he was not afraid.
A dark shape appeared at the lip of the can and leapt down, powerful hind legs kicking against the silver object. It was pushed back but didn't fall over, instead rolling around on the base until it finally stilled after leveling out. The figure moved closer to the cat, who still hardly seemed to care.
Moving as one, the cat and the figure stepped out from the shadows. The dark shape was revealed to be a lynx, with huge, wide paws, tufted ears, and shining yellow-gold eyes.
Yet the lynx obviously wasn't a real lynx. Anything could glance at it and would not see a wild animal; they would see a domestic cat, which was the species that most populated this world, where humans had once lived but now left not a trace of them except their cities, their towns, their houses.
The lynx was holding something in her jaws, and she stepped closer to the black cat, dropping it at his paws. He looked down and saw a medium-sized bird; its feathers, once a luscious brown, were dusted with scraps and trash and dirt. Neither feline knew how it had ended up in the trash can, and neither cared.
"Lucky find, Kuno," the black cat murmured, nudging the body with a paw. "It's dirty but it'll be easy to clean, I bet. It'll make for a good meal. Maybe the best we've had in months."
The great lynx nodded her agreement. "We have been blessed in finding this bird. Let's take it home, give it a wash in the river on the way."
They spoke no more as the cat picked up the bird, holding it firmly in his jaws, and followed the lynx; his dæmon.
There was a time, hundreds of years ago, where humans ruled this world and cats had no dæmons. Then, all of a sudden, the people vanished. No one knew what happened to them. No bones, or meat, or anything else was left behind.
Except for their buildings.
In no time, the roles of the animals in the world shifted. Cats, though not the strongest, evolved to have better intelligence, a proper language ─ and dæmons. Their souls, out of their body, walking beside them in any non-human animal form other than domestic cats.
"Puddle," the lynx dæmon Kuno said with a flick of her bobbed tail. "We're almost to the river."
The cat Puddle murmured a short response, though it was mostly muffled by the bird's body clamped in his jaws. Kuno let out a rumbling purr of amusement.
Within a couple minutes, the pair had reached the river. Five minutes later, the bird was cleaned off and they set out again.
The sun was setting when a cabin loomed up before them. They didn't hesitate, going inside, and Puddle dropped the bird in the center of the first room. He sat down, waiting for the bird to dry off enough to be edible.
He glanced over at Kuno when she suddenly went rigid, tufted ears shoved forward, bobbed tail twitching. And then he heard what she must've; a twig cracking outside.
Puddle curled his lip as he stalked to the cabin door, Kuno right behind him. He peeked outside, expecting to see an adult cat that he and Kuno would have to chase away.
Instead, he saw a tiny brown tabby kitten a couple feet away from the door. He looked around in time to see a white tail whisk into the shadows of the forest and disappear into the trees.
Kuno grunted in annoyance. "Well? What's out there?"
Silently, Puddle stepped aside, giving his dæmon a clear view of the abandoned kitten. Her eyes widened and shock ─ genuine shock ─ flashed across her face, which was normally blank and emotionless.
She pushed past Puddle and hurried to the kitten, hovering over it. Puddle knew she would've picked it up if it weren't for the taboo of dæmons touching a cat that wasn't theirs, and vice versa.
So she settled for sniffing it over, eyes stretched open wide, and Puddle felt her fear and understood it, for neither could see a dæmon.
Then Puddle exhaled in relief as he saw the tip of a baby mouse's tail as the dæmon huddled into the kitten's belly fur.
"What are we gonna do with them?" Puddle questioned, not taking his eyes from the kitten and dæmon.
Kuno turned on him, passion burning in her intense yellow gaze. "The hell you mean, 'what are we gonna do'?! We've gotta take 'em inside! Care for 'em! They must've been abandoned. We can't leave 'em out to die."
Puddle returned her gaze calmly. "Okay," was all he said. A strange feeling passed between them, and then Kuno surprised them both by tenderly picking the kitten up by the scruff.
Puddle stumbled, nearly losing his balance, but caught himself. The mouse dæmon was clutching the kitten's fur as Kuno carried both inside; Puddle followed wordlessly, still stunned.
Kuno placed the pair down on the carpet and curled tightly around them, chin on her paws as she stared at the kitten and its dæmon. Puddle padded closer and sat down.
"What will we name 'em?" he asked.
Kuno replied without looking up. "The little kitten is small but is certainly a bright spirit. Umoya Okhanyayo for her. Her little dæmon...Amandla Amancane."
And as Kuno spoke their names, first the kitten stirred, then her little mouse dæmon. Both blinked open their eyes and stared into Kuno's warm, glowing yellow gaze.
Safe and comfortable, they went back to sleep.

Excerpt:
With her heart hammering, Wyndolen stared with wonder at Lleu’s luscious nude body. She only glanced away long enough to pull a white robe, speckled with gold, out of the chest in the corner. She tugged it on, then fastened a plaid cloak over it with a round silver broach and latched her gaze onto Lleu again while he slipped his clothes back on.
They left the roundhouse and walked hand in hand to Cynfor’s home.
She called out to the woodmaker, “It is time.”
Cynfor stepped out, clutching an iron rod and the wheel of the year coated with gooey tar. As the three walked together to the center of the village, men, women, and children gathered around the druidess, muttering, “Lleu,” and “coward.”
Scanning the angry faces in the crowd, Wyndolen sighed. If only they knew the truth about him. But she couldn’t blame them, she was as guilty as they were. She hadn’t recognized he was a god, even after he’d told her. No, he had to show her his magic spear and reveal his dazzling aura. Now the others needed to learn the truth. Tonight, at his festival, she would announce who he really was. But first she had to prepare her tribesmen for the news, to lessen their shock.
She held her palm upward toward the crowd and cleared her throat. “Hear me, I have a surprise for all of you. The presence of the god Lleu is here. You do not see him as he is in the guise of one of us. So, take care of how you treat each other, lest you offend the deity.”
Their expressions shifted from anger to shame as they were now all on their best behavior.
Taking graceful steps, she led all her tribesmen, chief, and Lleu to a cliff. Their chief proudly carried a blazing firebrand, and Cynfor held the sacred wheel with reverent hands. Everyone grew quiet and gazed down the mountain slope.
Wyndolen announced, “We have gathered this Lughnasa to observe the Wheel of the Year as it turns.” She raised her arms to the sky and smiled at Lleu as she chanted, “The sun burns, yet winter nears. The season turns. Summer comes to an end. Sun and earth, life to death the wheel turns, Lughnasa, Lughnasa.”
She took the torqueh from Corio, handed it to Lleu, and he lit the wheel of year aflame. Cynfor handed Wyndolen the iron rod. Then, the sun god, Lleu, ran beside her, on the other side of the flaming wheel, as she used the rod to roll it down that part of the mountain slope.
She chanted, “God of the sun, the wheel has turned, the yearly end of your reign has come.”
Smoke rose, as flames ate the wood. The wheel reached its end at the foot of the slope and crumbled into ash and burning fragments. The crowd stopped in their tracks and circled the symbol of the dying Lleu.

August 6, 1916.—Officer previously reported died of wounds, now reported wounded: Graves, Captain R., Royal Welch Fusiliers.) …but I was dead, an hour or more. I woke when I’d already passed the door That Cerberus guards, and half-way down the road To Lethe, as an old Greek signpost showed. Above me, on my stretcher swinging by, I saw new stars in the subterrene sky: A Cross, a Rose in bloom, a Cage with bars, And a barbed Arrow feathered in fine stars. I felt the vapours of forgetfulness Float in my nostrils. Oh, may Heaven bless Dear Lady Proserpine, who saw me wake, And, stooping over me, for Henna’s sake Cleared my poor buzzing head and sent me back Breathless, with leaping heart along the track. After me roared and clattered angry hosts Of demons, heroes, and policeman-ghosts. “Life! life! I can’t be dead! I won’t be dead! Damned if I’ll die for any one!” I said…. Cerberus stands and grins above me now, Wearing three heads—lion, and lynx, and sow. “Quick, a revolver! But my Webley’s gone, Stolen!… No bombs … no knife…. The crowd swarms on, Bellows, hurls stones…. Not even a honeyed sop… Nothing…. Good Cerberus!… Good dog!… but stop! Stay!… A great luminous thought … I do believe There’s still some morphia that I bought on leave.” Then swiftly Cerberus’ wide mouths I cram With army biscuit smeared with ration jam; And sleep lurks in the luscious plum and apple. He crunches, swallows, stiffens, seems to grapple With the all-powerful poppy … then a snore, A crash; the beast blocks up the corridor With monstrous hairy carcase, red and dun— Too late! for I’ve sped through. O Life! O Sun!

“Enamor Me” ~
Drabble’s /// Accepting. /// @doublledamned
* Lynx with jade eyes stalks the other while he moves about in the other room. The clad suit catching against the flicker of lighting and each time she goes past the doorway she dares a peek at broad shoulders, bare neck with graceful feathery raven locks accentuating glass case ivory. She finds a gentle breath escaping luscious pink tiers as she dotes upon his features. What could she give an immortal that he didn’t already have-? The food she had made wouldn’t nourish him, the suit she bought him looked devilishly handsome draped around chiseled body though it was like putting clothes upon a beautiful marbled Greek statue meant to be adored by all. To cover it was the worst offense and terrible crime.
She contimplates. Pondering all the types of ways she could lavish him with love but she’s overstaying her welcome tapsing about in this kitchen allowing the linoleum to kiss her feet with cold pressed lips. She stops, bare toes arching so the ball of her heel is away from the floor and the idea comes to her. It’s a bold action, one that she would NEVER dare to do with just anyone. But Desuna had his claws in her heart and this was the only way she can show him she would endure pain for him, if only it meant she could stay by his side. To allow his acceptance. She catches her palm against a sharp object and watches the thin red line bubble to the surface.
She wanders over, gliding in his direction until she holds up her palm to reveal her curse. No doubt the smell reaching his sharp senses and a look of embarrassment isn’t erasing from her features. She can’t look him in the eye, instead she dims her voice to a soft whisper and hides lashes beneath silky bangs. Voice quivering. *
“ I-It isn’t much, but you can have my blood whenever you want or need it. ”

[SF] Nadiesco and the Cats of Ülthar (1,800 words)
Nadiesco careened through the endless vastness of space wearing a grin fit only for a king. The thick (though soft and forgiving) hairs of his immaculate beard caressed his face like a pouch hiding a newborn kangaroo. It helped to protect his exquisite visage from the harsh vacuum of Infinity. But unlike the metaphorical furless marsupial in question, our hero was not pink and raw and blind to the horrors of creation amidst him. Far from it. Nadiesco was an unshakable pillar of virility, an aimless and soaring testament to unshakable godless bravado.
He was a man amongst men.
His eyes snapped open with audible, rapturous delight. A planet-sized red orb had appeared in his field of vision, and it was rapidly growing nearer. From his all-encompassing perspective, it was an unknown world, ripe for exploration and raucous adventure. His rump tingled with the sheer breadth of possibilities.
And with the power of the West Winds under my command, I should be able to bridge the gap between myself and this brave new world in seconds!
His enormous grin somehow grew larger as he tensed his virtually indestructible muscles, bracing for impact. While the mysterious terrestrial body loomed ever closer, his luscious magic carpet-like arm hairs spread out and combed the breached atmosphere for the energy necessary to displace friction and survive the crash landing.
Eyes wide with insane glee, Nadiesco crouched in midair as the ground welcomed him with open arms. An organic updraft of crimson liquid exploded all around him, preceded only by the most abrupt of protests. As the smoke cleared and the geyser of gore settled, Nadiesco straightened his posture and brushed himself off. He came to realize what was now a miles-wide crater surrounding him had moments before been a settlement consisting of upwards of a few hundred native alien beings. He responded to this discovery by nonchalantly wringing a perfectly-measured quart of foreign blood from his beard.
“Well, I have arrived!” he bellowed to no one in particular. No one still desperately clinging to the back of the mechanical bull that was life’s mortal coil, in any case.
As he scanned the environment with his vibrant amber eyes, he noticed the scenery looked very much akin to that of a similar planet he visited in a distant star system long ago. That was back when its resident red dwarf wasn’t doing the solar equivalent of putting out cigarettes on its abused stepson’s neck. Hazy pink skies, vast mountain ranges, rust-colored sand which blanketed the landscape in every direction…all of it was just splendid. What was the old planet called? Mors? He couldn’t remember, which wasn’t much of a surprise; he visited so many strange and unique worlds on such a constant basis, it was difficult to keep track.
A lion’s roar echoed across the heavens. It was the sort of cacophony reminiscent of the inevitable bass drop in the celestial song of the gods that was a supernova. It was jarring enough to tear Nadiesco’s attention away from the lay of the land. He looked up to spot seven creatures bearing an uncanny resemblance to the mega lynxes of Perseus VIII. They flew—nay, galloped—through the air toward him at dizzying speeds. They possessed bright yellow eyes, neon purple fur, and impressive antlers reaching up and away from their craniums like trees swept out of the ground in a hurricane, soon to collide with a boisterous man attempting to hook up a satellite antenna on his roof, paying no mind to the storm seeking to undo him.
“Ho-ho, a convoy of indigenous life welcomes me!” Nadiesco proclaimed as his eyes took in a gluttonous, visual drink of the majestic fauna. He ooh’d and ahh’d, pumping a hairy fist into the air with unrestrained jubilation that most certainly should have been restrained.
The fabulous, decorated horned panthers touched down in the crater and began to cautiously circle our hero. In unison, they emitted a noise sounding as if a cat’s purr mated with an idling engine and gave birth to a complex monstrosity of feline and diesel. It was the song of a people, acting as both intimidation tactic as well as a type of funeral hymn for something of great importance lost on this day. Nadiesco couldn’t stymie his elation if he wanted to.
What appeared to be their leader tensed its abdomen and addressed the wandering man-warrior.
“We are the Cats of Ülthar. We protect the planet Ülthar from invaders and those who would do it harm, such as yourself. Your entry into our domain has cost the lives of countless innocents. We are here to exact retribution. We have failed those who entrusted their safety to us. Their deaths will not be in vain. Will you voice any defense of your crimes? It shall not save you, though it may elicit a quicker, more merciful end at our paws,” the cat growled. It unsheathed its claws and readied a pounce.
“Delightful! Talking cats prowling the reddened skies. Might I borrow one of you for a ride so I may better take in the views of your glorious home?” Nadiesco boomed, the purpose of the cats’ visit completely eluding him. The felines exchanged looks of incredulity and rage, commingled in a cocktail shaken and not stirred by the most skillful mixologist of emotional spirits the universe ever knew.
“Did you not comprehend we are here to kill you, sir!?” the lead cat stammered, unsure whether the intruder’s proclamations were indicative of ignorance or obliviousness. Either way, his blatant disregard for the sanctity of life made the cats’ fur stand on end, made their tails undulate with a thirst for vengeance incapable of being expressed with mere meows or widened pupils.
“I am Nadiesco of the West Winds, good cats! Though there have been unfortunate casualties of my arrival, I mean you no harm. I only wish to grace you with the most robust of ventures!” he projected, apparently less than concerned for the lives lost, as well as the cats’ unswayed intentions. In fact, their righteous bloodlust only deepened, like that of the conversation between two rednecks crossfaded on a wooden porch on a midsummer’s eve, lit only by the everlasting dance of fireflies and the requisite butane lighter—itself a prequel to an ambitious yet monetarily underperforming trilogy of bong rips, each sputter of smoke and spittle an offering. A sacrifice of Satan’s Salad in the name of their blazing pagan overlord.
A hush permeated the environment before the alpha cat decided to strike. It uttered a feral battle cry and leaped. Unfazed by the feline’s advances, Nadiesco twirled in place, dodged the cat’s attack, and in one fluid motion mounted the beast.
“And-we-are-OFF!” he shouted and kicked the cat in the ribs.
Shocked, slightly injured, the cat shrieked and took off into the sky like a fuzzy bullet. Nadiesco laughed uproariously as he blared into the stratus with wildcat in tow. His hair blew behind him, stretching out as his arms did. He hooted with rapturous delight, silently proclaiming himself the king of the world.
“Dear feline, this is wondrous! Despite my mastery of the West Winds, they do not permit me this heightened a sense of thrill or excitement,” the ridiculous man-beast claimed, beating his chest through the space lederhosen adorning it. The cat merely groaned in protest. Despite its myriad attempts at barrel rolling to shake the monkey on its back, Nadiesco would not budge, would not relent.
As they continued to float above the mountaintops, the remainder of the Ültharian cats emerged, flanking the duo on all sides. Nadiesco leaned forward and whispered sweet nothings into his steed’s antlers.
“Great cat, I do believe we are being pursued. Make haste, for a scuffle is near!”
Another crushing kick to the helpless cat’s ribs and they were blasting thirty yards ahead of the rest, outflying them masterfully. As they did, the cat shook harder, its panic rushing to the forefront of its consciousness.
“Terror from Beyond the Sphere, we are approaching the Cliffs of Blissful Agony. I seek no alliance with you, but if we are to survive, we must pull up NOW!” the cat screamed, trying desperately to make itself heard over the howling wind and the cackling buffoon atop it.
“What’s that you say, cat? I must pull up your antlers to fend off our attackers? Ingenious!”
Nadiesco gripped both the cat’s antlers, flexed his muscles, and leaned in for a final, sensual whisper session.
“I thank you for your sacrifice,” he breathed, then viciously tore out the antlers. The cat screamed and immediately plummeted from the sky like a stone. But Nadiesco did not drop. Quite the contrary, he remained afloat, realizing then the mystical antlers were what granted the Cats of Ülthar their gift of flight.
“Have at you!” the bearded golden-locked behemoth bellowed, taking on the remaining six cats with antlers at the ready, swinging them to and fro like forked batons of righteous space justice. Down each cat went as they were struck savagely across the skulls with the carriers of their own weight upon the airs. In the blink of an eye, it was all over, the carnage an affair made no less horrifying by its brevity.
Nadiesco touched down onto a mesa of the nearest hilltop and looked out over the horizon. The sunrise dissolved the clouds and cast harsh morning light on the destruction he had wrought across the Ültharian Planes. He placed his hands on his hips and took in a whiff of the cool air. It smelled of rum spiced with the cries of those taken before their time.
An imminent death rattle made its presence known several feet behind our “hero”. He turned to find the dying body of the cat he rode through the sky—the one now splayed antlerless and bleeding, dashed upon the rocks like so many unfulfilled dreams with a shattered spinal cord.
Nadiesco approached, kneeled, and cradled the cat’s face in his masculine (yet delicate) palm.
“Terror from…B-Beyond the…Sphere. You have mmmurdered my b-b-brethren. However, you are…ssstrong. You alone…have the power. To. Protect this…world.”
“What is your name, oh feral feline?” the clueless destroyer questioned.
“They call me…Tokliok,” it uttered before its last gurgling breath gave way, bringing an abrupt and unceremonious end to the Cats of Ülthar.
An entire town and a peaceful planet’s only defenses, all blotted out in a mere instant by a psychotically gleeful space dandy. Though this dandy paid his abhorrent tendencies no mind. He had won adventure and thus won the day.
“I. Am off!” Nadiesco hollered over the hills, dropping the dead cat’s head and taking off into the stratosphere, immediately forsaking the responsibility just passed on to him, soon parting from Ülthar with only the West Winds to guide his body along the path.
What path, you may ask?
The path to the next bold horizon.
