Serious question.
Do you think we’ll see the parents/family of each of the guys???
Like, We’ve been TEASED with Ace’s brother, that I’m starting to think it’s just a reference to that Alice in Wonderland park character in Japan and nothing else….
Jack’s family, Ruggie’s grandma, Falena, Maleficia, Ms.Rosehearts, Just now Vil’s dad is in the picture which I am really happy but now I’m wondering about his mom, and so Deuce’s mom.
I mean, some HAVE a silhouette!! It could mean they do have a design in the making/ready to show. They could’ve shown us Falena in the Tamashina (hope I said that correctly) event, but didn’t (prolly to make Leona not so σ(▼□▼メ) and it’s understandable)
Anyhow, any idea/headcannon about this? Who do you want to see first?
I'm wondering if everyone might eventually get a travel event? like they've now introduced with Vil's that it doesn't have to be specifically hometowns, so that opens things up a lot! (especially if they have to figure out how to do three separate Coral Sea visits) (how would that even work otherwise)
Tumblr media
but yeah, I hope everyone gets a chance! there's a lot of backstory characters I would LOVE to meet. :D :D :D though I do think some of them don't really suit the more light-hearted tone of the events (pretty sure you're right about that being why Falena wasn't in Tamashina-Mina, that would've just been. too much for Leona.) so like...we're probably not ever going to meet the Rosehearts. or Maleficia (although I maintain that this would be THE funniest possible way to introduce her outside of the main story, and actually I would love this a lot, can we please Twst) (I need to see her to put Malleus in a froofy little outfit and tell him what a handsome boy he is). but they've sprung surprises like Kifaji on us, and honestly anyone who shows up and tells embarrassing stories about characters' childhoods is good in my book!
characters off the top of my head who I most want to meet: literally any of the Zigvolts, Azul's mom, Ace's brother, Che'nya's grandfather (<- I think he would be a good one for Riddle) (please just any non-terrible adult in his life), any member of Rook's family because I need to see how they managed to produce him, and...really just whoever they can come up with for Silver.

[✨OPEN RP PROMPT POST-OB YAHOOO!!!!]
Yuna was... Exhausted, to say the least.
Her outburst had not lasted long, but then again, these sorts of things never did.
On top of that, she had no experience with magic whatsoever, and it was a wonder she wasn't outright dead, if not comatose.
She stared up aimlessly at the ceiling of the infirmary, left to reflect on her (admittedly humiliating) actions, wondering if there would be anyone who would grace her with their company, even if it were only to scold her for her recklessness and nothing more.

daydreaming könig being a dick when he feels slighted and i know you have something to say on the matter 🎤
i absolutely do
Will be absolutely incensed if you take up the role of KorTac’s designated sniper. You’re a decent shot, sure, but you can’t possibly be better than him. He’s sure your position was awarded based on size alone (or lack thereof) and not actual merit, and if he knows otherwise deep down, he admits it to neither you nor himself.
All bets are off on the sparring mat. König doesn’t go soft while sparring, per say, but he’s cognizant of his size and normally affords his sparring partners some gentleness as a courtesy. Not you. His wounded pride gets the better of him, and he wipes the floor with you like you’re nothing. When he picks you up and drops you hard on the mat, the air rushing out of your lungs, your fellow operators, spectating on the side, let out a collective wince. He doesn’t help you up. It’s poor form all around, and his ears burn when he hears the disapproving mutterings of his coworkers. “I thought this was a sparring match, not a pillow fight,” he tries to jest, voice thin with nervous tension, but he doesn’t get a laugh in response, just sidelong glances and a dressing-down from Hutch after the fact. You give him a wide berth afterwards, and he tells himself that that’s just fine.
None of it is your fault, but that doesn’t matter. He shoulder checks you in the halls, makes snide remarks on comms when you flub a shot. He could’ve done it better, he thinks. If they’d afforded him the opportunity. Never mind that you didn’t ask for the position, didn’t make the rules on size restrictions — he’s childlike in his anger and frustration and it redirects onto you, and the worst part is something in him knows it’s unwarranted, that he’s being cruel, and the shame makes him squirm, makes his chest feel tight.
And when you finally snap at him? He has nothing to say in his defense. He feels ashamed when you confront him, like you’d shone a light on something ugly inside him. He’s trying to get something out in reply, grasping to make a snarky comment, but his mouth gapes open ineffectually, because he has nothing. Because you’re right, and he knows you’re right, and the fact he’s forced to acknowledge his own poor behavior makes his hands twist into fists at his sides, nails digging into his palms.
He feels like a schoolboy being scolded, like a child caught defacing a bathroom wall or picking on a peer. He hates it, he hates that you’re right, hates the hurt look on your face, hates the way your words choke in your throat, he swears up and down he hates you, because that’s easier than apologizing.

There was a joke in the Wriothesley Not-Birthday arc that didn't make the cut but it basically was someone being like "YOU WERE SKINNY??" when looking at Sigewinne's toddler pictures with her dad (Neuvillette is the one taking them, obviously). And Wriothesley is like "I was in the hospital for like a month. No shit."

Hi! I am usually a lurker, but I have been following you for about a year or so (found from r/MM_Romance AO3 recs search) and my first read was Deeper into the Woods. -- Do you have any recommendations for "realistic" portrayals of sadists? (AO3 stories or MM romance but also open to non-fiction recs/other) -- I do not have any real-life experience with people who identify as sadists or the kink community in general, so I wonder how exaggerated the fiction is sometimes. Thank you for your time!
Hi anon!
I'm going to rec two of my own fics - Spoils of the Spoiled (especially tracing a young sadist who has to figure out where the lines are between reality and fiction in his own life), and Falling Falling Stars (which depicts an experienced genuine sadist who is quite frank/open about talking about it and is comfortable in himself about it).
You probably have a lot more experience with real life sadists than you know, since most of us are just regular people! (And quite a few of us are also masochists as well). Honestly it's possible to see people with sadistic tendencies in every walk of life. From massage therapists who enjoy working the knots out of their clients (including the 'good pain' it results in), to the professional manufacturers of boutique hot sauce, who like nothing more than watching someone suffer through what they created.
(And same with masochists - you need only look at the people who enjoy that hot sauce and the pain it causes them, lmao.)
You might also like the published m/m romance series by Lisa Henry and JA Rock known as the 'Boy series.' It starts with The Good Boy and the sequel is The Boy Who Belonged. It is, imho, a great and realistic depiction of an experienced sadist and a newbie masochist, as well as a trauma recovery story with an age gap, which realistically addresses the age gap, the sadism, lateral ways of being sadistic with someone who finds impact play triggery, and more. For me it's still one of the gold star versions of published m/m which shows the perspective of both characters, so we get to see what they're both thinking, and - imho - it's pretty realistic!
I'm also gonna rec one of my fanfics, The Beast that Chose Its Own Bridle, since a lot of the chapters are from the sadist's perspective, and while the setting is fantasy, the actual thought processes behind setting up scenes, the intention, riding the line between too much hurt and the right amount, what kind of pain is sexy and what isn't, etc. is - I feel - quite realistic. It's one of the things that fellow sadists have praised my work for (that the sadists feel like real sadists, and not just wish fulfillment sadists, who are otherwise apologetic for enjoying someone's pain), and while I still have a lot to learn re: writing in general, it's one of the reasons I write what I do!

hello! coming in peace as someone who’s pretty new to hockey and who wants to understand the cuda better. if you're willing to share, i'd love to hear more of your thoughts on bordeleau/guschin/cardwell and their futures with the sharks. the narrative i feel like i hear the most is that time is up for bordeleau/guschin - not quite skilled enough for a top 6 role, not strong/big enough for a bottom 6 role. the sharks roster is obviously not a meritocracy rn - but should it be? i think the sharks org keeping wsh up and bordy/guschin down show their long term visions for these guys pretty clearly. i guess my question is if you disagree with them about what might be best for the org long term. i think there is obviously some disagreement with roster decisions from the perspective of like ... we like the cuda guys and want them to succeed, but i'm wondering if you think the sharks org is being a little short sighted here? do you see any value to swapping wsh with a call-up from like, a business perspective? even if they get some nhl time (and are put in a position to succeed during it), and look great, at this point would it change anyone's mind in the sharks org about whether or not it makes sense to keep them around long term? should it? idk, i think the sharks think this short term roster management is all just gonna come out in the wash long term when (hopefully) wsh is more developed, and i'm curious if you disagree about that aspect of things.
My personal and precious blorbo feelings about Goosh/Cardsy/Bordeleau, I disagree wholeheartedly with any assessment of Gushchin that he is not ready for the NHL. He is not being given a chance at the NHL level. Bordy and Cardsy are more complicated. The Sharks is not a meritocracy but they are actively failing to develop some very good prospects too. We're like if the Dodgers were a hockey team but a really shitty version.
For Gushchin, they have been constantly moving the goalposts for him for three years: the org need you to work on [x] before we call you up; he works on [x] and does it near perfectly; the org says, no, you need to work on [y] before you get a real shot; he works on [y] and makes huge gains; the org says no, no, you need to do [z]...etc. The difference between him and, for example, Will Smith is that Will Smith has been given now months to stake a claim in the NHL, has played a majority of games in the months he's been up; Goosh gets called up for a handful of times and is benched or scratched immediately. How the fuck is he supposed to get used to the pace of play and a vision of NHL ice if they scratch him every time he's up? You cannot stick prospects in the press box for two weeks and expect them to learn anything.
Bordeleau and Cardwell are slightly more complicated; Bordeleau has been plagued with the "not trying hard enough" assessment for going on three years, and while it's true he's not our most skilled prospect, he was also playing injured for much of his first full year in the AHL and I think that hurt his development. Cardwell, meanwhile, played major juniors until the pandemic and then professional hockey in the SHL before coming to the Sharks -- he has an expansive view of the game, but not one that is refined. He is a hard worker, but he has holes in his game -- and these are holes he is very much trying to fill. None of this is a knock against either of them, and imho, Cardwell's got time left to prove himself, but the ways they were treated by the org were contingent on Bordy's injury and Cardsy just need to work on stuff.
In my opinion, any discussion of whether or not the Sharks are rebuilding well right now starts with looking, unfortunately, at the current Montreal Canadiens. The Montreal Canadiens have one of the youngest teams in the league by average age and are two points short of a wildcard spot. They're not out of the wilderness yet, but they're getting very, very close. Knowing a handful of Habs fans and having watched from the sidelines the way their team has developed both a culture and a game that has the potential to be very, very good in the next 3-5 years -- that was a team that actively encouraged a young core to develop together. They had high draft picks and good prospects; rather than letting their prospects atrophy in the AHL for years, they started calling them up as soon as they showed that they were capable, and let them stay up for long periods of time to learn how the NHL works. They now have a tight young core who went through some huge growing pains when it came to play but have a lot of potential to do some really, really good stuff.
Even if Goosh were given a real chance at the NHL level with the Sharks, the Sharks have imho so thoroughly given up on him that he's not in a position to succeed with this organization. Saying that makes me want to throw up, but if he's not already being shopped, he's certainly requested a trade. Similarly with Bordy - they gave him several weeks when he was playing injured, took that as a sign of his ability, and haven't really given him a meaningful shot at it since. Cardsy's got at least the rest of this season to try to stick the landing, so I hesitate to make any predictions about him.
Warsofsky would scratch the entire team for zero corn chips. He can and will bench any player for no discernible reason, from my POV as a fan. Our forward roster is a hot fucking mess of vets + two teenagers, two 20yo Swedes and Ty Dellandrea. If Mike Grier can tell me how we're supposed to build the future of the forward corps around Wennberg and Goodrow, I'll stop talking shit immediately.
However, none of this should really be as frustrating as it is because the Sharks have historically never been good at prospect development 🤷 So like why I am so mad that I saw Henry Thrun up for two straight seasons over Valtteri Pulli who showed more defense responsibility in one shift in the thunderdome AHL than Henry Thrun will show in the NHL for an entire month. Like....that's the Sharks org lmao. We fucking suck at prospect development.
