Making a Ramus doll now lol

The victims: Drew Carey body from the mid-late 90's and a Devilock Char Aznable body from the mid 00's. (Idk why my phone camera makes the Devilock body look so much more yellow than Drew's body, they are slightly different shades but not by that much lol)

Man I love it when dolls and action figures are held together with screws. :3 Makes hybriding sooo much quicker when I don't have to saw off the bits I wanna use.

I took this pic mainly because I was amused that Devilock put some kind of wax in the tummy joint for added friction/stability. I mean honestly there are worse options! Whatever works XD

The hips had screws, but they seemed to also be glued together. No prob, I like the Devilock butt better anyway, so I'm just gonna trim Drew's butt off and stick his torso on top of the Devilock hips.

Armssssss. I shaved a slant into Drew's shoulder holes as evenly as possible and greenstuff puttied the Devilock shoulder joint pegs in place. (It's a sloppy job don't look too close XD but I managed to preserve as much shoulder articulation as I possibly could with the tools I had on hand.)

Test fit...

More greenstuff and he's all stuck together! \o/

As you might be able to tell from the leg stance, I came up against a small issue with actually joining Drew's belly to Char's hips: both bodies were made before 3d sculpting and printing was a common part of toy engineering, so they're not perfectly symmetrical and have little quirks and imperfections from the master mold having been made off of handsculpted pieces. (One of those quirks is Char's legs seem to be slightly different lengths, and his buttcheeks are two different sizes. XD)

So I prioritized lining up the front over the back...

Eh, so it goes. I can live with it.

Next I need to find where I stowed all my little sample sized jam and honey jars so I can mix up some acetone goop to smooth the transition and cover the greenstuff. :3c

Then I gotta find a head to mod into Ramus, or start sculpting one from scratch...

Ahahahaha. The dangerous part of konmari-ing stuff but not getting it out of your life fast enough; I pulled both these bodies from my destash bins. ^^;; I pulled a couple more for other Lunar character dolls at the same time, actually.... >:3c

I also wanna make this into a holo sticker, but again money is the issue. :B I wish there were print-on-demand places that did holo, then I could just upload it without having to commit to buying 50 to 100 of a design.... >_<

Have a random AU for Lunar New Year: Instead of leaving Quark’s cave with a valuable-but-smelly dragon diamond, Ramus stumbled on an odd wand that just so happens to have the power to grant his greatest desire– …it transforms the target’s clothes into a sexy bunny costume. So begins the mad reign of Bunnymaster Ramus and his Leporid Legion!

Tbh, this popped into my head before I even realized that 2023 was going to be the year of the Rabbit! XD I just wanted to draw Ramus in a bunny suit cuz I thought he’d look good in one. :3c Lucky coincidence!!

Replaying Lunar on stream has been kinda wild, like man there are some things I either missed 20 years ago or completely forgot about.

Like how rotten these punk kids are! I feel like a mortified chaperone leading a field trip that's gone completely off the rails, half the time I'm reading out their dialog. Kyle and Nash are definitely the worst offenders, but Jessica's earned herself a slap on the wrist a couple times too.

Nall can be annoyingly childish, but he's not dipped into the abhorrent social behavior nearly as much. Mia and Alex remain on good terms with me, by being blessedly quiet most of the time.

I miss Ramus, he was my good boy! The one braincell that held the party together! He gets a bad rap for some misogynistic comments he makes, but those get completely blown out of the water by Kyle's toxic 90's "it's funny to hate women" masculinity. And to be honest, Ramus' two points of character flaw effectively cancel themselves out:

Whines that Luna shouldn't come on the adventure because "girls just keep guys from having fun." (A very mild and childish form of misogyny. )

Later hires a squad of bunnygirls to work in his store, proving that maybe he's grown and learned that his prior protestations were unfounded. (And his employees adore him, so he's definitely not mistreating them!)

And then there's Luna. Dear sweet, angry and tormented Luna. She also earned a few slaps on the wrist due to some carelessly judemental comments, but was mostly well behaved while she was with us.

Some of her dialog was written to be nagging, but I chose to interpret those moment as raw anger and it really adds to her character I think. She has every right to be angry, growing up in the worst village on Lunar!! Surrounded by weirdos who shipped her with her brother-by-adoption from the moment she showed up!!!

Oof, that's a plot quirk that I didn't pick up on the first time I played the game. WD did a decent job trying to bury it, but there are a few moments of "I miss OUR parents, Alex" that really had me feeling the Folger's holiday awkwardness.

Tbh, the main thing WD did to hide the lede was avoid publishing that Luna and Alex have the same surname (something that later game localizers didn't bother hiding,) and calling Luna a foundling as often as possible. Idk, maybe it's just me, but if you grow up from infanthood together, nursed by the same woman, and call the adults raising you "mom and dad".... you're siblings. It doesn't matter that you're not related by blood, you experienced the sibling relationship dynamic and therefore it is still incestuous to date eachother. Ew.

More worryingly, there's the argument that the Noah's didn't raise Luna as their daughter, but just as a "foundling." What does that entail? A cold, emotionally neglectful distance. An orphan kept close at hand only for her miraculous ability to keep their "real" kid from crying 24/7. (According to one early tie-in manga.) That's worse, I hate that. Though.... that would explain a lot of Luna's anger and frustration.

Does the second scenario make a romantic relationship between Luna and Alex okay? No. If anything, it makes it even worse.

It's too bad there's basically no mental health support on Lunar, because all these kids need intensive counseling of one sort or another.

Last night was the first appearance of Tempest and Fresca, two kids that I always forget, like, exist in the game. They're introduced like they matter, but, well... if you stick with my streams, we'll probably uncover why I'm so lukewarm on those characters either this upcoming Sunday or the Sunday after that (depending on whether Myght's tower is as annoying as I remember it being or not.)

For all my grousing, I still love the cast of Lunar so much. They are an absolute mess, in a way I don't see from other rpgs of that era or any other era if I'm honest. An endearing mess. I could just use a little less of some of the worst stuff that was mostly left behind in the 90's and early 00's.

On the other hand, sometimes it's good to be reminded of the things society has grown past. Because nostalgia can be a very dangerous thing.

(Also, I really need to work on writing out my Queer Lunar Thesis. Because I've got a queer reading for every one of these characters. Maybe even Tempest and Fresca? We'll have to get through their story before I can make up my mind on them. It'll be hilarious if they turn out to be the only hetero cis characters on the moon.)

You know, thinking about endgame Lunar: the Silver Star things, and the fact that you can get Herbs of Althena for free in Ramus's shop but you have to pay for Seeds of Vigor in Reza. And you can sell the Herbs of Althena right back to Ramus for the normal price, so you can get a lot of money then go buy as many Seeds of Vigor as you want.

I wonder if that was by design to help you prepare for the final dungeon. Seeds of Vigor aren't cheap.

Sega Mega CD - Lunar: The Silver Star

Many gamers in the west did not experience the Lunar series until the Playstation version hit North America. Or perhaps even the worst version, that of the Gameboy Advance. Yet those who owned a Mega CD knew of a slew of RPGs for the platform. Lunar is probably the best RPG on the Mega CD and a landmark for many following titles. The game looks pretty dated by today's standards; well, it looks dated even compared to the Sega Saturn release. That doesn't mean Lunar is a bad game though. Lunar still has a magical storyline that will reel in even the most hardened men who wouldn't be seen dead playing such a game.

In Lunar, you assume the role of Alex, a young man from a small village, who dreams of adventures, like his idol Dragon Master Dyne. One day he and his three friends Nall, Luna, and Ramus set off to find a Dragon Diamond. Little do they know, but this is just the beginning of a quest that will take Alex to realize his dreams. He will meet new friends, become the greatest Dragon Master in the history of Lunar, and discover his love for Luna.

In typical RPG fashion, the plot builds slowly, until the end. The plot is also quite engaging and will keep your attention during its 40 hours of gameplay. Some RPGs can drag out and get boring, Lunar never stumbles in this fashion, even during the one instance of excessive leveling.

The Graphics are good. But not great. The game is also not as colorful as its PS and GBA (and by extension Saturn and PSP) remakes. And if you compare Lunar I and Lunar II, there is a vast difference in the graphics department. But considering that this was one of the first games on the Mega CD it’s understandable. The animation sequences look great, they are Studio Ghibli-tier quality, and it is always cool when you see one.

The Sound and music are as excellent as we have come to expect from the Lunar series. Those playing this version after the PS or Saturn one will notice that some music is the same here as they are on some of the remakes. Lunar still features one of the best videogame soundtracks.

I need to finish my Bunnymaster Ramus doodle soon... I wasn't even thinking about lunar new year when I sketched him out, I was just gripped by how cute (and sexy >:3c) I thought he'd look in a bunny suit and was compelled to draw him.

Really just need to add a smidgen of shading and he's done.... if my brain can wrangle anything beyond flats right now, that is. I'll try!

100 Fandoms Challenge Prompt: Promise Fandom: Lunar

For @azurefishnets who had a prompt from Press Start that I’d been eyeing but didn’t get to, but now has partially inspired this, and who introduced me to Lunar in the first place for which I’m most grateful <3.

“We promise we will keep her safe.”

Weeks passed since Saria and Ohro made that promise. They passed in a sort of blur as they tried to navigate their new life with a baby and toddler. Saria sat in a chair by the window, cradling Luna. Moonlight bathed the sleeping village and despite her own creeping tiredness, Saria found herself content.

Luna pressed closer to her, her tiny fist wrapping around her shirt’s fabric. Saria smiled down at her. She’d be asleep again soon. It was strange to think how different she was from Alex when he was her age. It was often a battle to get Alex to sleep while Luna would wake a couple times before drifting off again quietly. She didn’t cry out much, but she was more vocal in other ways. Alex had always been quieter. Saria was fascinated to see how else they might be similar or differ as they grew.

“Mama!” Alex toddled up to the chair.

“You’re supposed to be asleep,” Saria said with little rancour.

“Want you.”

She shifted over and Alex clambered up to curl next to her. He reached out with a big yawn to touch Luna’s hair. “Sis.”

Saria gave them both a fond stare as they fell asleep.

“I will always keep you safe. I promise,” she murmured.

“Mama sing!”

Luna stared at Saria from her bed. Saria tucked the blanket around her. Alex sat on Ohro’s knee while he read a book to him.

“All right. One song,” Saria said.

Luna clapped her hands. Saria adjusted the blanket again as Ohro caught her eye with a grin before they returned their attention to their respective charges. She sung to shining blue eyes and felt herself lost in the notes.

“Ah… aah. Aah aaah!” Luna repeated and giggled.

Saria blinked. That had almost held a tune, the same tune.

“More!” Luna exclaimed.

“You heard the lady,” Ohro said.

Alex nodded. “I wanna hear more!”

“Honestly,” Saria said. “All right. One more time, then it’s time to sleep, okay? And that goes for you too, Alex.”

“Aaa!” Luna said again and Saria started the song once more.

When she finished Luna snuggled into her pillow with a humming sort of noise. Alex clung half asleep to Ohro as he brought him to his bed and once settled, he stood by Saria and they held hands looking at their children. Saria renewed the promise to herself. They would always be safe.

“Laaa. La la la lalaaa.”

Saria followed the singing to Alex’s room. Luna stood in the middle of his floor, swaying slightly to her song as she sang. Alex sat on the edge of the bed staring, rapt. Saria leaned on the door-frame. Six years old and she’d already far surpassed her in singing.

“That was beautiful,” she said when Luna wound down to a halt. Luna spun around and Alex jerked as if knocked out of some sort of reverie.

“Thank you mama!” Luna chirped.

“How are you feeling, Alex?” Saria asked. He’d complained of a bad headache earlier though he looked happier now.

Alex jumped up. “My head feels all better.”

“That’s the power of music,” Saria said lightly. And a good distraction no doubt, she added privately, not least in Luna’s singing skill. Certainly she always felt more soothed when she heard it.

Luna grabbed Alex’s hand and tugged. “Come on Alex. Let’s go play.”

The kids raced out and Saria trailed after. She half watched from the window as they met up with Ramus until all three ran from her view. May they always be so happy.

“A bit higher.”

Luna stood, her head cocked, listening. Alex frowned in concentration at his ocarina then tried again. Saria set her book aside; it was clear she wasn’t going to get much reading done right now when she couldn’t keep her eyes or ears off the practicing pair.

“That’s better,” Luna said before she launched into singing along.

Alex was still learning, but Saria thought they truly did sound lovely together. Crisp clear notes rang out around them and Luna’s voice only grew more beautiful as time went on. She leaned back into her chair with a contented sigh. Everything was well. She would see that everything always would be for her precious children.

“We promised!” Saria burst out as she paced another line across the room. Ohro rested a hand on her shoulder preventing another frantic crossing of the room.

“They’ll be all right,” Ohro soothed. “We knew this was likely.”

“Alex yes! And I wish to Althena that wasn’t the case, but why Luna? She’s not a warrior.”

“Do you really think she would let Alex go without her?”

“I…” Saria sighed. “No…”

“Alex will look after her and she’ll look after him.” Ohro wrapped his arms around her. “We taught them the skills they need in the world. Isn’t that protection on our parts?”

“I just want them to be safe.”

“We’ve done what we can. It’s their turn to fly.”

Saria nodded. “Be safe, Alex… Be safe, Luna…”

“This can’t be…” Saria whispered. She’d repeated it too many times as if the denial would make it come true.

Ohro’s face was grim. “They’ll get her back. Alex will find her.”

“Taken…” She stared at Ohro. “How could this happen? How could we let this happen?”

“Betrayal,” he muttered his eyes flicking to the door, his own anxieties plain. He pulled her into a hug. “She’ll be safe. They both will be.”

Saria leaned into his chest with a shaky breath. “They have to be,” she replied. “They have to be… I’m scared.”

He squeezed her tight. “Believe in Alex. Believe in Luna.”

“Always. Our children.”

“Mom! Dad!”

Saria raced out of the house in time to see Alex and Luna stop in front of the house. Letters were small comforts. Now, they were finally home! She flung herself at them drawing both into as large a hug as she could manage. They were here and alive and well.

Alex eventually extricated himself as Ohro joined them.

“It’s good to see you both,” he said and gripped Alex’s hand before pulling him into a hug.

Saria stepped back to stare at Luna taking in her full appearance from top to bottom. She was all right and she was here. Luna smiled at her and there was something different there, something deeper in her eyes. She clasped Saria’s hand.

“Promise fulfilled.” She blinked and was entirely the Luna Saria had always known. “I’m so happy to be home.”

Ohro pulled Luna over into another hug while Saria steadied herself against the sudden crushing relief. They were truly safe.

They all returned to the house together, a family once more.

SEKOLAHNYA DI RUMAH.

Ayah yang paling tidak piawai melukis sedikit terkejut dengan hasil coretan anaknya yang menginjak angka sepuluh. Menurutnya, angka itu sangatlah muda, belia, seperti baru saja menetas dan berpijak ke bumi. Namun, di situlah musababnya Ayah mulai membatasi segala ruang. Barang belum tau, namanya ini Ramu, kalau di akta kelahiran jadi Ramutri Lam Winaya.

Dari susur galur sendiri, Ayah sama sekali tak punya bakat dan minat untuk melukis, untuk membedakan hijau dan biru pun Ayah senang terpaling. Usut punya usut, Ramu yang kian bertumbuh besar menjadi seorang anak lelaki muda telah hidup di sekitar padang ilalang, rembang petang, lunar, matahari, hujan, petir, angin, tanah liat serta pohon dan juga sungai yang tak jauh dari rumah. Selama itu, ia tak pernah bertemu seorang anak sebaya. Nah, untuk sekolah sendiri, Ramu didatangkan berbagai jenis guru ke rumahnya. Tentu saja atas pilah-pilih Ayah dan saran dari Ibu.

Konon, Ramu lebih cepat mengejar ketertinggalan beberapa tahun untuk usia dini di tingkat SD. Nilai-nilainya kepalang tinggi, angka 9 atau 10, semua mata pelajaran. Untuk waktu yang sedikit lama, kira-kira dua puluh hari, Ayah semakin tak percaya, "Ini benar anakku, Bu?" katanya sembari berkontemplasi dengan istri di kamar, di atas ranjang, mengamati tiap-tiap lembar rapor Ramutri seorang.

"Kamu pikir selama ini aku menikahi apa? Hantu? Ini anakmu, Mas!"

Hasil celoteh Ibu Ramu yang juga tak meredup lebar matanya menelisik angka yang berderet rapi dari atas hingga ke bawah.

"Apa kita biarkan selalu sekolah di rumah?"

"Iya, Mas. Aku takut pula bila di sekolah umum, kudengar anak tetangga nakalnya bukan main. Sore-sore ketahuan merokok dan pacaran dengan perempuan. Ah! Aku tak mau bayangkan Ramutri anakku seperti itu."

"Bila?"

"Bila apa, Mas?"

"Bila kamu dengar gosip begitu?"

"Sudah melebar di mana-mana! Tak tahu? Aku menjemur baju pagi tadi, Ibu-Ibu itu bicaranya macam tak tau tempat. Nyaring betul sampai aku hafal percakapannya."

"Jadi sekarang dia mau sederajat SMP, ya?"

"Iya, Mas."

"Ya sudah. Jangan bicarakan ini ke siapapun, apalagi ke komplotan arisanmu itu. Aku punya firasat mereka mau menjodohkan anaknya dengan Ramutri."

Walhasil kesepakatan di atas ranjang yang berkaki besi telah terbit, dilaku sebuah jabat tangan antara Ayah dan Ibu lalu setelahnya menjemput mimpi bersama.

Tak lama, mungkin kisaran dua bulan setelahnya, Ramu di ruang tengah dengan seorang guru fisika. Ramu itu apik, baik budi pekerti, cara bicara, bahkan bagaimana berhadapan dengan yang tua sekali.

"Ramu, buka halaman empat puluh lima, ya?"

"Baik, Ibu."

Suara Ramu mendayu, bukan berarti layu seperti perempuan, lebih tepatnya selembut suara Rhoma Irama ketika bicara, tak mirip tapi serupa. Kala muda, Ramu sudah lihai merangkai tiga kata ajaib; maaf, tolong dan terima kasih.

"Mohon maaf Ibu, tolong lebih kencang suaramu, ya? Karena aku dengar soang terus kalau pagi-pagi begini. Terima kasih."

Guru mana yang tak iri hati dan dengki dengan Ayah dan Ibu? Sejauh itu sudah lebih sepuluh guru yang menyaksikan langsung betapa bajiknya Ramu dengan orang, mereka pikir sayang bila tak disekolahkan ke luar negeri atau sekolah yang lebih memfasilitasi. Jawaban Ayah yang pasti ialah tidak, biarlah Ramu dengan segala ajaib dan bajik yang mengitari anak sorang-sorangnya.

"Iya, Ramu. Kalau ini kedengaran?"

Ibu guru fisika mengikis sedikit jarak kursinya dengan Ramu, sembari melengkingkan suara hingga timbul nadi pada leher sang Ibu guru.

"Kedengaran!"

Seru Ramu dengan sumringah menghiasi durja.

"Hari ini kita akan belajar───"

Suara Ibu guru tiba-tiba berhenti begitu mencium wewangi sedap yang menyeruak ke rongga hidungnya. Baunya gurih, sepertinya ada yang menggoreng sesuatu di pagi hari. Namun, Ramu perlahan bergumam sembari mencoret-coret sesuatu nang abstrak pada lembar kosong di bukunya.

"Maillard."

Satu kata itu memecahkan atensi Ibu guru dalam hitungan detik.

Maillard ialah reaksi pencoklatan non enzimatis yang terjadi karena adanya reaksi antara gula pereduksi dengan gugus amin bebas dari asam amino atau protein. Reaksi ini banyak terjadi pada produk pangan yang biasa dikonsumsi sehari-hari. Reaksi Maillard dalam makanan dapat berfungsi untuk menghasilkan flavor dan aroma, dapat menyebabkan kehilangan ketersediaan asam amino, kehilangan nilai gizi, pembentukan antinutrisi, pembentukan komponen toksik dan komponen mutagenik, atau singkatnya maillard adalah kata lain dari perubahan warna pada makanan yang mengandung glukosa, semakin lama sampel dipanaskan maka akan semakin tinggi absorbansinya dan semakin pekat warna coklatnya.

Ibu guru tau ini, tapi Ramu belum pernah ia ajarkan. Sama sekali. Sesaat, sebelum benar-benar masuk ke dalam materi yang akan dikaji bersama, Ibu guru menatap Ramu lekat-lekat pula jua Ramu hanya tersenyum sembari bersimpuh rapi di kursinya, menanti bila kelas akan dimulai.
