Started a new spin that might actually keep me busy for a while. The top is a blend called the Luminous Lagoon. I feel in love with the color the first time I saw pictures; I adore pictures of bioluminescent algae. I could tell it was a World of Wool blend, but I wasn't willing to make an order directly. I found a couple of resellers on Etsy and picked the easiest. I've got a pound, I'm thinking a sweater with color work from some of the other blue merino/silk I spun for last year's scarf.

I climbed up Dunn’s River Falls today and somehow didn’t die (but it felt like a close thing a few times!) Also there were some huge banana spiders hanging out on the way out of the park.

🌺 C’EST ÇA L’AMOUR ˖ ࣪ ( how they love )
Tumblr media
⋆ ᳝ ֺ featuring — ayato, childe, kaveh, alhaitham
꒰ genre ꒱ — fluff, js literally how they love so (gn!reader)
Tumblr media
AYATO loves like the tranquil waters. The still, calm, underlying surface that’s not so easily shaken by the morning breeze. The ripples that formed as raindrops collided into bodies of water. Blows of a thousand winds won’t disperse the firm lagoon that’s foundation is buried within the core of the earth. The challenges you face with another became one that bounds the unshaken perseverance between the both of you. The love he has akins to the serene waves that’s bound to the moonlit nights, luminous, filled with undying grace and serenity.
CHILDE loves like the tidal surge. Waves that reach ‘till the crown of the heavens, soaring so greatly with infinite strength and determination to reach the clinging stars of the above. He is afraid not to show the love he has for his dear. He desperately yearns for the time he touches the sky once more just as he fell into the unshaken sands of the shore. The everlasting torrent that continuously returns to the comfort of the stars, no matter how high he has to reach.
KAVEH loves like the setting sun. The sky that’s paint in an orange-like hue accompanied by a red undertone. The golden hour that surrounds you in an epitome of light, reflecting your ethereal glow. He loves like there is no tomorrow. The sun alters the entire skyline just to declare it’s presence on the morning day, and it does the same as it flutters away. Kaveh shows extravagance to his words and gestures but those aren’t little sweet nothings of a mere eye candy, those are phrases and brackets that surrounds you like the orange hue of the afternoon. And he will alter even the heavens just to justify his love for you.
ALHAITHAM loves like the subtle rain. He does not need loud thunderstorms nor hurricane schemes to display his affection. Little droplets that collide with the epidermis of your skin is enjoyable not worrying. He loves without any care about the world, just like how those little drops cascade into humid soil without any doubt. He might not be expressive with his words unlike the rainbow that comes after the roaring skies but the way his pupils dilate as he watches your endearing smile, the soft smile that highlighted his usually vacant expression as you drew near, glows more than all the colors that the rainbow reflects. He treats you with such grace akin to a falling feather and the humid air after the rain.
NOTE. i hope this wasn’t confusing as hell bc i wrote this in like 12am 💀 hope you enjoyed! like as well as reblogs are appreciated <33

Sunset Dream at the Blue Lagoon
Tumblr media
English translation :
In the Blue Lagoon, beneath twilight hues, the turquoise waters glow with a tranquil sheen. The sky dons shades of gold and rose, in a gentle dance where light bursts and flows.
Lava ground mingled with light mist, in a dream where calm is a luminous twist. The steam rises like an ethereal veil, painting a scene of sacred beauty unveiled.

Infloresce & Friends: Charity Festival benefiting the Chattanooga Trans Liberation Collective
Tumblr media
I attended the wonderful charity stream for aivi & surasshu’s first anniversary of their label Infloresce, benefiting Chattanooga Trans Liberation Collective. It was a lovely time and included many special guest appearances, including (of special interest to some of my blog readers) Rebecca Sugar and Jeff Ball of Steven Universe fame and aivi & surasshu themselves. Here is an overall outline of the content of the TWELVE HOURS of streaming, including details about all of the performances! And if you’re interested in further supporting the Chattanooga Trans Liberation Collective, you can choose your donate option here.
This is a twelve-hour streamed charity event to benefit Chattanooga Trans Liberation Collective, put on in honor of Infloresce's one-year anniversary. Infloresce is aivi & sursshu's record label for "gentle music that goes hard." With nine releases in the last year among their handful of musicians, largely populated by gender expansive and trans folks, are supporting the trans community with this event.
1. Breakfast Friends - Waffle Talk
Tumblr media
This opening panel included discussion of trans community, the beauty of realizing how many people are queer in your community, music, and morning routines. aivi shares what's different about their morning routine because they have a child. Includes an interview with Evelina Kertay, a founding member and leader of Chattanooga Trans Liberation Collective, who shared information about fighting anti-queer laws on the ground without depending on the structures of the oppressor.
Tumblr media
She says it's very important for allies to be willing to put skin in the game and accept risk. Her message to trans people is that past liberation movements and queer elders can show us the way--it's a fight that's been fought before. (Also, ACAB and fuck ICE.) CTLC helps people access trans-friendly medical care, name changes, and escaping hostile situations.
2. Oops! All Bangers. Trans and Non-Binary Radio
Tumblr media
With a quirky introduction about the Dunmucky Method of music-making involving a dollhouse as an illustration, we then get some bangers from various trans and nonbinary artists, played over rad videos of trans and nonbinary people from the south skating:
Tumblr media
Featuring the following:
telebasher - "Savior"
Zantilla - "Lemon Pepper"
JER - "You Can Get It If You Really Want"
Maddie Lim - "Mango Habanero"
Saria Lemes - "That's Not Candy"
mandrasigma - "Trinket"
FLOOR BABA - "PREHISTORY"
miles morkri - "yarrow"
Ponpoko in the Distance - "Ukijima"
3. Battle Buds: Team Composition Challenge
Tumblr media
This was so cool! Six battlers "duking it out friendship style" make music inspired by locations in Chattanooga, each writing a piece in one hour. miles and surasshu discuss the history and process of compos. Compo communities started on IRC back in the day--sometimes 30-minute or 1-hour competitions where people would make compositions and vote on them. Surasshu has competed in hundreds of them. The composers use many different utilities to make their contributions. Throughout the stream, the hosts checked in with each composer and let them talk about their process and philosophy.
Tumblr media
Composers and their compositions:
Hunter Van Brocklin - Cerulean Caverns
Frums - Rosebloom Ravine
Ash - Luminous Lagoon
M Gewehr - Groove Gardens
Maddie Lim - Bubble Bay
mandrasigma - Tangled Terrace
4. Button Masher Performance
After another fun Dunmucky intro and music lesson, we get a performance from chiptune composer and performer Button Masher.
Tumblr media
5. Digifu Classic
We are treated to some lovely digifu pieces with cool visualizers.
Tumblr media
6. Cass Cuttlefish Performance
With another music lesson in the Dunmucky Method ("Structure, Purpose, Vision!") leading off...
Tumblr media
We have Aubrey Halo, aka Cass Cuttlefish, sharing some great music, including one that's "too fast to be a waltz." A couple of the songs have lyrics!
Tumblr media
And we even get some cool pixel art from Aubrey.
Tumblr media
Aubrey is now transitioning the previous “Cass Cuttlefish” social media to the Aubrey Halo name.
7. The Sandwich Club: Let's Talk About Games!
Tumblr media
Next we have some folks talking about games and their contributions! Panel contributors were ChevyRay, Jessi, Ko, Hbomb, Isla, and SonicFox. They discuss experience as gamers, as developers, and as composers. They discuss what their first video games they remember playing, what video game characters are the hottest, whether Shadow the Hedgehog is cool, how much evil can a character do before they're irredeemable, and how to avoid burnout and burnout experiences.
8. Floor Baba Performance
Tumblr media
A Muckyverse lesson teaches us about melody! Then Floor Baba takes the stage with a performance: We have MIDIs to jam to and accompanying cool art!
Tumblr media
9. Maj7 Community Showcase
Tumblr media
Very cool pieces by this collaboration between artists, accompanied by various inventive animations!
Tumblr media
10. aivi & surasshu Performance
Tumblr media
After another lovely and unhinged Dunmucky Institute music lesson, we get aivi & surasshu's set, opening with "Amalgam" from Steven Universe (Opal's fusion dance song). They then perform a cover of "Yuri on Ice." The next song, "Periphery," is from their upcoming album.
Tumblr media
The promised “Love Like You” stream included the crowdsourced choir collected from Steven Universe fan contributions across the internet. 92 contributors sent in their voices! (Small brag: I was in there!)
Tumblr media
11. Being a Trans Lawyer in the South
Tumblr media
This section has an interview with a lawyer (who also skates!) named Alex Moody (they/them) discussing how laws affect trans and gender expansive people in Southern states, how Southern social movements work, and some of the necessities of playing nice with norms and expectations so we can get shit done. Learn legislators, bother them, make calls, access Mutual Aid where needed.
12. Battle of the Bits Listening Party
Tumblr media
After a week-long battle with 69 entries, we get to listen to the top 11!
#11 blower5 - hi
#10 doctorn0gloff - the trials of blossoming
#9 telebasher - NEVER GIVE UP !!
#8 rewitkin - travel log
#7 robotmeadows - we used to run around and not get tired
#6 october - you and me 'til the world ends
#5 damifortune + slash - a chipped stylus
#4 paperaviator - just existing (in a good way)
#3 zenkusa - A Picnic at Twilight
#2 petet - willow
#1 pedipanol - Together
There were also individual awards in the categories of Friendship, Community, Trans Rights, Inflorescence, Charity in Pants, Overall. Very cool.
13. miles morkri Performance
Tumblr media
We get another set of instructions to teach us about the Dunmucky method, and then we're on to see miles morkri! This performance has some great vibes with miles singing and playing. I loved this one!
14. STAFFcirc Community Showcase
Tumblr media
STAFFcirc composers have their pieces featured with more stunning visuals.
15. Rebecca Sugar & Jeff Ball Performance
Tumblr media
Another music lesson teaches us about texture in the Dunmucky Method. And then, we get Rebecca Sugar and Jeff Ball sharing a special performance!
They begin with a guitar and violin duet of "Everything Stays."
Tumblr media
Next we are treated to the full version of "Change Your Mind," and then "Love Like You," and finally "Escapism."
Tumblr media
It was so special to get to hear Rebecca performing again. I missed seeing performances like this.
Tumblr media
16. The Ice Cream Social: Let's Talk About Toys!
Tumblr media
miles, aivi, Loni, mandrasigma, and Marcie have a chat about toys, with a big focus on Hot Wheels. They discuss what everyone's favorite toys were as children. Character cars look like taxidermy to aivi. They have started collecting Hot Wheels cars after having a child who is obsessed with cars.
As an incentive to get to $10,000 on the donations, mandra offered to show a "cursed" Toad-inspired Hot Wheels car. And it happened. (And it was cursed.)
Tumblr media
17. telebasher & amimifafa Performance
Tumblr media
Another visit from the Dunmucky Institute later, we get some wonderful melancholy, chill music from telebasher & amimifafa collaborating.
18. Infloresce Records Community Showcase
Tumblr media
Infloresce artists have their pieces compiled and showcased with more wonderful music videos and visualizers!
19. Zantilla Performance
Tumblr media
Lesson 9 from the Dunmucky Institute provides an interlude, and then we get a performance from artist Zantilla. Metal guitar-led music with visuals of the artist going hard jamming out on guitar.
20. Moonlit Vibes: Trans & Non-Binary Radio
Yet more wonderful night-themed songs from trans and nonbinary artists, featuring more great skating videos, this time with a night palette tint. We got some cool stories about the meanings of the songs, the importance of leaving space in music, the despair some trans people feel and make art about, and how aivi ended up working with Zantilla.
Tumblr media
Featuring the following:
Slide20XX - "thick as thieves"
amimifafa - "phytogenesis"
aivi (ft. Zantilla, Michaela Nachtigall) - "Tiger"
TV-MA - "I Want to See the Angels"
Isaac Shutz - "Summer Rain"
Lena Raine - "Full Moon Memories"
Siphosomes - "Canopy >> Stars"
paper aviator - "On Foot"
21. quarkimo Performance
Tumblr media
Some beautiful night music closes us out with quarkimo playing candlelit piano.
22. Curtain Call: End of Stream Hangout
The Dunmucky Institute takes us to the exit of the stream, with a return of the dollhouse, and some very nice messages about the importance of making art.
Tumblr media
With a final plug for the Chattanooga Trans Liberation Collective, the organizers have a celebration that everything worked and nothing broke for the whole twelve-hour stream. There were lots of thank-yous and information about who contributed what. Much outpouring of gratefulness and love was had.
Tumblr media
I did not initially intend to attend a TWELVE-HOUR STREAM but by gosh that’s what ended up happening. I care very much about trans rights, as a fellow Southern-state-liver who is watching the freedoms and safety getting scrubbed out of my communities at a frightening rate. Evelina Kertay of the Chattanooga Trans Liberation Collective was a WONDERFUL speaker and badass and I would have loved to hear way more from her, and I believe her trans-led organization is going to DO THE BUSINESS as we fight these laws and prejudices.
I’m really glad I attended.

Luminous Lagoon, Jamaica
One of the popular bioluminescent beaches.
"Why does the water glow? The water in jamaica's luminous lagoon is full of millions of dinoflagellates, which are a type of algae or marine plankton. At nighttime, these microscopic organisms start to glow when they are disturbed."

Two Poems by Morgan L. Ventura
A Brief Synesthetic History
When I look around it could be said we are living in dark times, the walls & skies & sea & clouds & spaces within me, obsidian smoke, pitch tar, pooled oil. It tastes of ash & petrol & mould & the edge of a boiled knife & I hear the whooshing whooping of distant stars – black holes – ebony arias bending, twisting vibrations. What’s true is I want brighter times, amber & magenta times, spirals of smiling roses & giddy peonies, & detonations of laughing citrine. Times that carry the blush of wisteria, caramel popcorn, earnest eucalyptus. I was born in green times – aventurine smiles & verdant yards blooming viridian jewels, emerald & jade hanging from low branches, wistful and content. The 80s rainforest transmutes blue. Periwinkle times, the 90s breathed cornflower winds and bluebell gales, husked sapphire on metal plates, glimmering robin eggs on cedar porch chirping an unearthly jingle piercing aquamarine eyes of my father who knew only sadness. The sky only spoke rain, it was falling sea, shredded wave, lacerated labradorite, cascades of troubled cerulean. Shocked like glaciers arguing, raging because all’s spilled into red. A time of crimson, furls of fuchsia in the tide of blood after flames across New York, after strikes in Chicago, after death in the family. The 2000s were carnelian, lay the bead beneath my tongue, the rubies on my eyes, enshrine me in magma, encrust me in this livid tomb. Vitrine of vermillion, what is a body but stained glass, medieval sun never modern. The next era’s violet, arched, mutilated candy blossoming from irises in the back. In the evening light it all shivers purple, bruised lilacs yammer & portend a luminous love. Amethyst troves in the attic squirm & emit warmth, simmering with snapdragon & grapes, pisco vineyard from a decade ago, time punctured by lazy lost lagoons. Take me now into what seems like blank times, off-shades of pale peeling into crystal pears & glass shards as we wait, & the iridescent soul in the body of the future, the cloud high above spitting quartz & splitting mirrors, declares these are rainbow times, & I have to tell you, I love all the colours, I want all the colours. World, let me bathe in your prisms & drink your light. This marbled soil, this striated sky. I’d be no one & nowhere without.
Internal Monologue of an Anthropologist in Paris
i.
My mother said if I fail on my new adventure I can live in her closet.
My French roommate has shit in my bed after having a midlife crisis at 29.
On television I look like an idiot. Even smart, floral blazers from the 10th Arrondissement make me look like a cartoon character because I’m very small.
They want to hire me as a curatorial fellow at the Musée du Quai Branly but then I have to stay here and oh, how I know the Parisians suffer.
Every Thursday there is a voracious vacuuming in the flat above me at 6am and I am suddenly murderous. I strike the ceiling with my broom and the ceiling strikes back.
ii.
My life is an Antonioni film. At the Sorbonne, I’m asked to describe my unwritten doctoral thesis in front of four medieval historians and a self-proclaimed spiritualist who spends most of his time at Père Lachaise by the grave of some important figure whose name I can’t remember. I whirl around in my seat and quip, “It is about nothing with precision.”
iii.
The community in Oaxaca wants me to ask the Mexican government to return the collection it stole but I’m merely an anthropologist, when did we ever hold power?
Margaret Mead was barely 5’0” and carried a walking stick taller than herself, which she’d use to intimidate men. That’s power.
I’m invited by the History Channel to appear on Ancient Aliens after my undergraduate advisor, a certain Mayanist, declines and thinks it would be hilarious to give them my personal email. “We will pay you $300,” they tell me. I think seriously about it.
Pseudoscience is absurd but my life is absurd. My next-door neighbour smokes cigarettes naked while his parrot shits on the patio. A colleague informs me they irrationally hate my surname.
“Would you like a career in anthropology?” my PhD advisor asks me after I tell him about the invite. This, coming from a man whose faculty headshot features him sacrificing a chicken.
Anthropologists don’t deserve careers, I think. But I sure enjoy all the grant and fellowship money, society’s conviction that we are worth something because “we are scientists.”
I don’t want a career, I conclude.
iv.
Over lunch in the EHESS cafeteria, my friend says everyone here complains too much and that the Parisians are insane and create their own chaos.
My brother texts me because my mother is in jail. She should stay there.
I go for coffee with an artist in Le Marais. The owner comes out to scream at all of us who dare to use their laptops and take up too much time – or space.
Claude Lévi-Strauss helped found UNESCO. Franz Boas died in his arms. Claude’s a structuralist and I despise structure. Will I die in the arms of anyone?
When Bronislaw Malinowski died, we all found out that he was a pervert. His field notebooks were festooned with scribbles of his interlocutor’s boobs.
“Anthropologists are very interesting, no?” asks the barista I’ve befriended at perhaps the most hipster café I could find.
I don’t know, are we?
Am I?

Sublunary
This action also takes place on Turn 12. Corobel has 2 points remaining.
Command Avatar to Create Race (-1): The Two Stars create the Eight-Eyed, a subrace of arachnid-cicada Tiktik, to guard the tunnels of the Moon. The souls of the Refusers (those who refused Haeberik’s gift of vampirism and were secreted away in the heart of the moon) are alloyed with those of Tiktik and sharpened on the whetstones of those sharpest demigods, the Two Stars. They haunt the lava-tubes and chambered caverns, dwelling in honeycombs carved of pale basalt and gleaming in the ghostly light of moonstones.
Command Avatar to Found City (-1): Coryphaeus draws lunar settlers along the coast to the ancient crater-lagoon whose centre is the Court of the Two Skies. Here, they find great vaults on a superhuman scale, riddled with neatly-curving caverns, fluted and ribbed with gentle veins of silvery rock. Spires and pinnacles tower above. Through these, the lunar winds and the voices of the Coryphaeus sing the Moon’s part in the Music of the Spheres. They build the city of Periapt.
0 points remain.
There follow some facts about the Moon.
The greatest vault is the Court, which is chambered like a heart; it contains the Firefly Embassy, where emissaries of the stars keep their strange council with the Faces of the Moon. In the Chamber of Visions, arsenal of the Sky, the celestial portents clamor silently: comets await their appointed times; meteorites, kin of the Great Serpent, crouch, eager to blaze and die.
The stone is slightly living, for it is the flesh of a god. (This is true everywhere on the moon, but especially here.) Like all living things, it feels a gentle tendency towards light, which draws it upward, spinning it into pearlescent spires and beehive kopjes. And the moon (everywhere, but especially here) seems to generate a kind of small stone, somewhat like a pearl; the colonists say that, whenever someone takes a secret with them to the grave, it lodges within the moon, and these are the pearls that grow around them, wept out like tears.
The gravity of the moon is just low enough that it’s a noticeable change from World standard. The Secret within weights heavy on the heart of the world and draws things to it as a tragedy is drawn to its conclusion.
The Conquest and its bloody culmination struck every plant on the watching moon white with grief and fear. (This only applies to parts of plants which are normally green, and some are still transparent, red, luminous blue, or various other exotic shades; this is because the Moon “has a sense of aesthetics, you know, it’s important to introduce some contrasts here and there. Plus, I like cornflowers.”)
