One thing that wouldn't end well is if someone chirped Luke on Isabel

The entire team is ready to throw punches

Nico told the boys from the beginning that if someone on the other team says something about Isabel then everyone gets to attack the player, no questions asked.

But as the team traveled to play in Boston when on the players said he wouldn’t mind having Isabel in bed it made Luke lose it.

Luke had just told Nico that he was dating Isabel too so it was all really new for the couple.

Jack, Dawson and Nico all ended up in the fight too as another guy smiled at Isabel who just wanted to hide in her seat.

After the game Luke found Isabel waiting for him and not even letting her get a word in Luke kissed her “you okay?” Isabel mumbled frowning like she wasn’t so attracted to him in that moment “just had to made him know that you were off the market.” Luke explained as he smirked watching Isabel giggle.

Nico stood there with an irritated look on his face “you might make my sister happy but this does not make me happy.” He grumbled trying to convince himself that he wasn’t happy that his sister was happy with him.

When you see somebody Who erases everybody in the room I don't know what to say, I don't know what to do

Jamie hadn't meant to be up as early as he was, the bold black letters of the time plastered on the screen of his phone reading 5:30 AM while he sat out on the back porch of the hughes lake house.

Another Summer of spending time with his girlfriend, her family and a couple of their friends was a nice getaway from their every day lives of playing hockey and doing all of her social media things.

The hockey players mind flashes to the small velvet black box that he had packed away in his duffel bag, making sure to keep Belle from finding.

He can hear the backdoor slide open but he doesn't take his eyes off of the sun rising in front of him.

"Morning, Jamie." Jim's voice flows from beside him, taking a seat an the empty chair.

"Morning." Jamie sends him a half smile as his head turns to look at him for just a second.

"You're up early." He says after a moment of silence, sitting the coffee cup on the arm of the chair.

"Yeah, I just needed a breather before we get up to whatever Jack has cooked up or us today." Jamie tells him with a slight chuckle.

Jim lets out a chuckle of his own and they sit in silence for a moment before the father of four broke it, "I can see all the signs, son....so go ahead. Ask me."

Jamie feels the palms of his hands grow sweaty as he wipes them on the dark grey material of the sweat pants he's wearing, his words suddenly catching in the back of his throat.

"Um, I.....I want to ask Belle to marry me." He finally chokes out, eyes never leaving the sunrise in front of him.

"How long have you been thinking about this?" Jim turns to look at his daughter's boyfriend.

"For about year. I’ve had the ring since December 27, 2023." He tells Jim, finding a sudden interest in playing with the thing bracelet on his wrist with 'IMH' engraved on it.

"A year?"

Jamie smiles, "Yeah. It first crossed my mind when I was traded to the Flyers. I called her right after I got the phone call when we were in Memphis and she told me that we would be okay, I'd be okay. That's when was like, 'damn, i really think i want to spend the rest of my life with this girl.'."

"And when were you sure you wanted to marry her?"

"A week after I was traded, when she packed up her apartment in California to move in with me in Philly." Jamie has no hesitation as he speaks.

Jim smiles at the adoration in Jamie's voice when he talks about his daughter, "Jamie, when Belle first came home telling Ellen and I about you, I was honestly worried. I love my sons, and I love hockey, but I didn't want my daughter to date a hockey player. But listening to how she talked about you, how she talked about the way you treated her, I told Ellen, 'i'm happy that he can put this big smile on her face and a bright sparkle in her eyes'. That's all a father could ever want for his little girl."

Jamie listens, hanging onto every word.

"And if you wanna marry my daughter, I give you permission to do so." He says as they both stand up, Jim bringing Jamie into a hug.

"Thank you."

Ellen and Belle had decided to take the time to have a little girls day, leaving the boys and Jim at the lake house.

Jamie sat on the couch next to Luke, playing with a lose thread on his jeans as he watched the others playing video games, trying to think of ways her could ask four of the dozen hockey players staying.

Taking a deep breath, he just decided to rip the band-aid off and quickly blurts it out, "I wanna ask Belle to marry me."

The yelling that had been going on quiets down as everyone turns to look over at Jamie, the sounds of Luke dropping the controller to the ground following.

“Did I hear that correctly?” Quinn leans forward to be able to look at Jamie.

“Dude! Come on!” Trevor groaned as he stands up from the couch, pulling his wallet from his back pocket and slapping a twenty into Jack’s outreached hand.

“Buddy, you made me twenty bucks richer!” Jack smiled widely, “Make me an Uncle in six months and I’ll win another twenty!”

“Don’t make him an uncle cause I’m not giving him another twenty.” Trevor huffs sitting back in his place. “Marry your girl, Jamie!”

“This is really what you want?” Quinn asked, his tone serious as he looks at the hockey player.

“A hundred percent. Guys, I love your sister with every little ounce of my being.” Jamie tells them, “Belle is the only person that I see myself marrying.”

“And our dad?” Luke raised an eyebrow.

“Asked him this morning, he said yes.” Jamie wipes his hands on his jeans, growing nervous again under the gaze of all the guys.

“Well, you have my yes.” Jack grinned.

“When do you want to do this?” Quinn crossed his arms over his chest.

“This weekend, before we leave.” Jamie answered, “She’s always talked about getting proposed to on the end of the dock.”

Quinn smiled, “Okay. You reeled me in. Yeah, you can marry my little sister.”

“Luke, you’re really quiet over there, buddy.” Jack grinned at the little pout on Luke’s face.

With the pout still on his lips, Luke crosses his arms over his chest, “Fine, you can marry my sister.” He pauses, "But I would also like to become an uncle, just not in six months."

"Hey, baby." Jamie grins as he walks back into the lake house from being on the boat with the boys, leaning down to kiss her, "Got anything planned for tonight?"

"Hmm, no." Belle shakes her head, "Why?"

"I'm taking you out to dinner." Jamie tells her as she looks at him, "What is it?"

"What do I wear?"

"Something pretty."

“Okay.”

“Have I mentioned how pretty you look?” Jamie grinned from the driver side of the rental car her shared with Trevor.

“Hmm, almost every chance that you get.” Belle smiles over at her boyfriend, bringing her hand up to play with the hair on the back of his neck. “Tonight was nice, just the two of us.”

“It was.” Jamie pulls into the driveway of the lake house, “But I have one more surprise.”

Belle raised an eyebrow at her boyfriend as he quickly jogs around the front of the car to her side, pulling the door open for her, “Thank you.”

“Always.” He smiles, kissing her for a brief moment before he takes her hand and starts leading her down towards the dock.

A quiet gasp leaves her lips as she takes in the sight of the small boat dock.

Candles lit up the walkway going out to the end. Seven bundles of roses lined up the sides as well as rose petals scattered along the middle.

“Jamie….” Belle stops in her tracks as tears begin to rise above her water line.

Jamie grins as he takes her by the hands, pulling her close to him, bringing her hand to wrap around his neck as he let his own drop to her waist, “Isabelle….,”

“No, don’t drop to one knee right now.” Her bottom lips trembles as she looks into her boyfriends eyes.

A chuckle leaves his lips as he sniffles, “You know, Trevor caught me watching your videos the night before we met? I had found them a couple weeks before and watched them all, and I never picked up that you were related to Jack, Quinn and Luke. And then I walked out of the locker room, and there you were.”

“We went back to our house after dinner that night, and I couldn’t stop talking about how amazing you were so Trevor gave me your number and I was so terrified to do anything with it. Took me two weeks to build up the courage to text you and ask you to have lunch with me.”

“After, I went home and I called my mom. I’ve never told you this, have I?” Jamie stops to ask her, which she shakes her head no, “Good. I went home and I called my mom, and I told her, ‘This girl, she’s it. She is everything that I’ve been searching for. She’s it for me,�� and she just laughed me off and said, ‘Jamie, your young, you’ll have more than one experience like this’, and I told her, ‘watch me marry her.’.”

“We’ve been there for each other through every good, bad, up, down. Through sickness, career moves, through every hockey game, every time you needed someone to participate in videos for your channel, TikTok pranks, and your pregnancy scare last year.” Jamie kept going with his speech, never once losing eye contact with Belle as he did.

“And the other morning, I was sitting out on the porch, lost in thought about how I was going to ask your dad and brothers, when your dad came and sat down next to me. He could see it on my face that I wanted to ask him, and he asked me how long ago had I been thinking about asking you to marry me. For an entire year, the thought of marrying your had been in the back of my mind, but six months ago I finally got the courage to buy the ring."

"But the exact moment that I really knew that I wanted to have you for the rest of my life was last year when you packed up everything you made for yourself in California and moved with me to Philly." Jamie's thumb wiped away the tears falling from Belle's face, tears of his own falling. "Can I get down on one knee now?"

A sob rips through her throat as she vigorously nodded her head, "Please."

Jamie chuckles before pulling the ring box out of his pocket, dropping down to one knee as he looked up at the blonde, "Isabelle Marie Hughes, will you marry me?"

"Yes, of course!" A giggle leaves her lips as Jamie slides the beautiful ring onto her finger before standing up and bringing her into a deep, breath taking, kiss.

Loud cheers fill the air as everyone comes out of their hiding spots, Luke instantly rushing to his older sister, spinning her around in a tight hug.

"Oh, let me see the ring!" Ellen grabs her hand, smiling at the diamond ring resting on her finger. "Oh, my baby is getting married!"

Opinions on the Better in Black stories? What do you think each one will be about? I’m so happy Sizzy is being included 😋 I wanna see their wedding

IMGGG better in black!! It needs to come NEOWW I am so excited. And yes I DO have opinions on the better in black stories!!

So if you don’t know these are the stories featured in better in black. The absolute uproar these comments where in other the characters where really obnoxious to me. Cassandra doesn’t OWE you writing any specific pairing 😭😭 anon this isn’t about you but everytime I see these comments I get mad.

The only thing I would have done is add characters we haven’t seen in awhile. IE, maybe swap Sophie & Gideon/ Cecily and Gabriel with some couples we’ve already seen a lot (Clace, black stairs ect). But again, I don’t really have any complaints! Quite happy with the pairings.

WHAT do I think each story will be about?? Well some of them I’m kind of not really opinionated on BUTTT I will tell you what I think for some of them!!

Wessa —> I think Wessa’s story will be them in Paris! If you look at the cover it seems like there the ones who near the Eiffel tower. What are they doing? Who knows. I don’t think it will be an adventure pursue, but I feel like maybe there gonna have a love confession on the Eiffel Tower.

Sebastian and the Seelie queen —> if I remember correctly, Cassandra said this was going to be a romance story in particular. So i definitely feel as though this will be some kind of political story. Ie: Sebastian and the Seelie queen trying to manipulate each other through pleasantries or coming to some kind of agreement. I honestly think this story will give us some kind of insight into Ash in particular.

Mark, Kieran and Cristina —> WELL, if anything- I think this book will 100% be them in the faerie cottage. Doing what? Who knows… but doing who? Well… JOKES. If anything, I could see maybe them dealing with some kind of fae problem. Or maybe Mark & Cristina visiting Kieran in the unseelie court, helping out!!<3

Jocelyn and Luke —> no one rlly gaf about this story as much as me. I think the fact it’s in the PAST is what excites me most. So there’s two possibilities for this story.

1. It’s them in the circle days, kind of crushing on each other but yk, Targaryen wannabe Valentine Morgenstern is in the way. I think seeing the teenage crush that Luke had on Jocelyn would be oober cute and sad.

2. This is the one I think is the most plausible, them raising clary <3. Them both adjusting to there newer lives while also taking care of this tiny new infant. It would be so cute!!! Also it would be really cute to see a younger clary (of any age really). Like imagine them going to Luke’s book store like Lorelai and Rory going to Luke’s diner :,)

For the other characters?? I don’t really know to be honest. I’ll let the wind take me with there stories.

ALSO SIZZY. I am sorry I’ve made you absolutely lug through this entire post anon, but the fact where getting sizzy content for the first time in 2. Billion years… don’t even talk to me!!

I just finished shadowhunters again, and I’ve got questions

*SPOILERS*

Okay so when Clary’s memories of the shadow world disappear, in the one year later, everyone’s basically all like yeah it’s hard to stay away from her blah blah blah it’s against the angels wishes to try and fix it but it’s all good cause we’ve all got happy endings except for Jace who doesn’t accept it obviously

My first question: Simon was part of her world before the Shadow world, why couldn’t he have still been apart of her world? Same with Luke? I get that she didn’t have the sight anymore, but don’t the downworlders just appear as regular humans anyways so Simon definitely could’ve still been in her life right? Luke I guess cause he’s a shadowhunter it makes it more complicated? Idk like I kinda wanna know what exactly her memories are? Does she think Simon is dead like his mom does? What does she think happens to her mom and dot and Luke?

Second question: clary literally went against the angels multiple times to protect and save and help her friends who are all living their best life, why didn’t they do the same for her LOL like I know they risked a lot to save her before too but idk I feel like they definitely could’ve done something

Third question: why did they cancel this and end it like that because I literally needed more than her being like “you’re Jace right?” With a knowing look like how are you gonna do that to me and end it there? I needed her and Izzy to become parabatais and reconnect with everyone especially Simon and I needed Magnus to call her biscuit again and Alec to give her that relieved hug like how Clarke gives Bellamy in the 100 😬

Obviously the correct answer is that- being Consul- Alec is the one /officiating/ the wedding.

What I love about the suggenes is that it can literally be anyone: a parent, sibling, parabatai, friend, whoever you want.

Since Alec’s first act as Consul was to make Shadowhunter/Downworlder weddings fully legal, i think is second act would be to make it legal for Downworlders to be a Shadowhunters suggenes.

With that said! I thought long and hard about who the suggenes would be at the clace/sizzy double wedding, and my thoughts are as follows:

Clary: Jocelyn. Jocelyn was super protective of Clary her entire life, and the number one critic of Clary’s decision to join the shadowhunters as well as her relationship with Jace. Choosing Jocelyn would be a really significant way to show the evolution of their mother/daughter relationship, relationship to the shadow world, and Jocelyn’s approval of Jace as someone who loves and protects Clary just as much as she does.

Jace: Maryse. If Jace can’t pick his parabatai or his sister, he’s picking the only parent he has left. Nuff said. (But if he didn’t pick Maryse, i think he’d go with Luke. Luke became a supportive father-figure to Jace over the years and they have the parallels of their forbidden love for Fairchild women that ended up working out. I also love the symmetry of having a married couple supporting newlyweds as their suggenes.)

Simon: Luke! Simon lost his dad at a young age and Luke stepped in to fill that role just as much for Simon as he did for Clary and eventually Jace. He was also Simon’s Downworld mentor after getting Turned. (However, if Jace were to pick Luke over Maryse, i think Maia would be Simon’s next choice since she’s his oldest Downworlder friend.)

Izzy: Magnus. I also thought about Maryse for Izzy, being her last remaining parent (bc wouldn’t it be fitting for Maryse to be suggenes while her kid marries a former Downworlder across from another Downworlder suggenes (esp if Simon chose Luke)?), but i do think Magnus is a better fit. (I do have some thoughts on why it /wouldn’t/ be Maryse, but that’s another post). If Izzy can’t use either of her brothers or her best friend (Clary), I genuinely think she would choose her brother-in-law. She was the biggest supporter of Alec and Magnus’s relationship, and now Magnus gets to support her and Simon! And as another one of Simon’s friends/mentors, i think Magnus would be honored to be part of his wedding to Izzy. As we all know, there’s nothing Magnus wouldn’t do for this crazy, wonderful family.

I do think if clace and sizzy got married separately, Alec would be the obvious choice to be his siblings’ suggenes. But for a double wedding, he would never pick between the two. Plus, as the officiant, he would get to watch the smiling faces of so many people he loves all at once, and see the effects of the Downworlder-Shadowhunter Alliance :)

the possibility of clace & sizzy having a double wedding is so funny to me because how would that even work. like you all need suggenes and you do not have that many close friends 😭 it can't all be Alec

New York air. All I have dreamed of since being trapped in that God forsaken library.

That and being able to see Jack again. Feeling his arms around me, feeling his lips on mine. Just simply being around him and his smile.

But here I am, eyes staring at my feet, heels touching the pavement back home.

And I can't move a muscle. Until two hands are on my shoulders, giving me a tug.

"Dahlia, Kid, listen to my voice," It's Mica. "Just listen to the sound of my voice, of the hum of the plane, Isabelle's constant chatter," He chuckles after the last statement, but only once my eyes meet his, tearful but no longer lost in the depths of my mind.

He smiles, a one that only someone with the warmth of father could truly muster. 20 years my senior and 2 teenagers at home, his energy makes sense. His standing as our team leader is exactly where he's supposed to be.

"There you are. What had you so lost in thought?"

He knows the answer. It's our job to read people. But I do appreciate that he's asking, not reading.

"I don't want to bring this home to him."

Mica does me the good deed of at least pretending to look confused, even if he's not.

"To who Dahl?"

"Jack. It's different than usual. We see what the victims go through, we analyze what happened. I've never-"

"Had to be the victim," He supplies, face tight. "I know. You're a student, we shouldn't have sent you in there."

I am just a student. How did I get from a lecture hall to this?

"I've met Jack, you know?"

Now he's just trying to distract me, and it does work, his question making me chuckle quietly as Isabelle and Franny leave the plane, offering us small smiles as they go.

"I do know, I was the one to introduce you."

He's smiling now, whatever he's getting at is obviously working how he wanted it to.

"So you know I can say, with confidence, that you could never burden that boy like you think you're going to."

"I just- I try my best to not bring anything too scary home, you know? He's just such a positive guy and I don't want to dim that? And we have a kid-"

"You what?" His eyes are like saucers, and I'm realizing that even if I did finish my sentence he'd still be confused.

"His kid brother, Luke lives with us," I fix myself, his body relaxing. Poor father figure.

"Dahlia, I need you to listen to me, you are not a burden to him for going through something horrific, and he loves you enough to be positive for you both if you can't right now, okay? I could not tell you the number of times my wife was my sunlight when cases are hard and-"

"Crim!"

It's Luke's voice that cuts off Mica, panic etched into every fiber of the sound. His brother is next to him, and the lights of the airport reflect off of streaks left behind by tears.

My boys.

Mica's hand taps my shoulder twice, his typical good job pat on the back. "And those boys are your sunshine, hold on to that."

Nodding, I thank him with a smile, Jack nearly crashing into me with how hard he pulls me into his arms. His lips touch to the top of my head, the warmth I've been looking forward to from his body embracing me as his cologne does the same.

"Thank you for bringing her back safe," His eyes are trained on Mica, arms still wrapped tight and Luke standing to our side.

Mica just smiles. "Can't have my unofficial daughter dying on me," and it's meant as a joke, but Jack flinches. "Sorry, psychoanalyst humor. Have a good night all."

He's waved off, given soft goodbyes, and I can't help but glance up, eyes meeting the ones I love so much.

"As much as I love you, I think Luke might vibrate out of his skin if he's left to the side any longer."

The boy doesn't argue, just stands there, nearly frozen.

This was as hard on them as it was for me.

"Lu, come here," I wave over, him taking a singular gigantic step towards his brother and I pull him into our hug, doing my best to run my hand through his curls as I do when he's upset. It's a few moments later that I can feel the drops of something wet fall onto my shoulder, just at the crook of my neck.

"Oh Lu, please don't cry." His response is muffled by my shoulder the first time, his brother and I pulling back to encourage him up. "What was that?"

"You're not allowed to die."

It's a sob, red eyes, tears down his face, and effectively breaks my heart.

Jack's arm is still around my waist, holding me tight, and when I look up I notice tears have slipped down his cheeks as well.

Taking Luke's hands in mine, I run my fingers over his knuckles, the universal Hughes calming method.

"I promise to always come home."

A promise I can make but never guarantee.

Nico had Isabel meet Luke when the Hughes boy showed up in Jersey “pookie!” Isabel giggled as she saw the boy “they’re already close.” Dawson teased seeing Luke wrap his arms around Isabel who was fixing the boys hair “don’t you dare.” Nico warned shaking his head.

But as he watched Luke lower his hands Nico had to say that he wasn’t a fan “keep your hands where we can all see them Hughes!” Nico yelled watching his sister flip him off as the two younger siblings walked off “John go make sure they’re not doing anything illegal.” Nico ordered as he sat down.

Before the Marino boy could complain Nico smirked “go or I give you laps.” With that John was on babysitting duty the rest of the night.

belle grins as she stands in her and jamie's shared bathroom in philadelphia, her camera propped up on the rectangular jewelry box resting in the middle of the two sinks.

"welcome to jamie and i's bathroom. today is. . . ," she trails off, picking her phone off the counter to check the date, "december seventeenth. so, jamie and i have been married for six months, and i think i may be pregnant. i've had pregnancy scares before, but i feel different this time."

"it is super early in the morning, jamie is at the gym with carter and cam so i thought it would be the perfect time to take a pregnancy test." she holds the wrapped test up for the camera to catch it. "i'm gonna pee on this stick and i'll be right back."

"okay, that's done." belle caps the last pregnancy test and sits it back down on the bathroom counter, "i'm really freaking nervous. jamie and i haven't really been trying for babies, but we also haven't done anything to prevent babies from happening. either way, we'll both be excited and happy."

"jack will probably be the most excited out of my brothers, and most likely will throw himself a party. he's always asking me when i'm making him an uncle and i'm sure he has a bet going on with trevor." belle nervously fidgets as she tries to think of anything to keep her mind from wondering. "why did i think this was a good thing to do on my own?"

moments later, the timer that she has set up goes off and she picks the first test up, her jaw dropping as she takes in the small 'pregnant' on the small screen, "holy fucking shit."

flipping the other test over, she jumps in place as they also read 'pregnant', and she holds them up for the camera to see them, "holy shit, i'm pregnant! i'm fucking pregnant! i wanna call my mom but at the same time i want to keep this between jamie and i until i can at least go to the doctor and confirm that i am a hundred precent pregnant."

"jamie should be home in a little bit so the next time you see us, we'll be telling him that he's going to be a dad! okay, i need to calm my nerves down."

the camera view now shows jamie scrolling through his phone on the couch, freshly showered from his morning at the gym with a few of the Flyer's players and with no mind that he was being recorded.

a sigh leaves his lips as he locks his phone, laying it on his leg and throwing his head down onto the back of the couch, "baby! come sit with me on the couch! we can watch a movie!"

a angelic giggle rings through the room before belle moves into the view of the camera, a view of the three pregnancy test tucked away in the pack pocket of her blue jean shorts. "hi."

jamie smiles widely, leaning over to kiss her softly, "hi."

"okay, i know we promised to not be those kinds of couples, but i got you a present for six months of being married." belle smiles warmly at her husband as her hand moves to the back of his neck, gently scratching at his scalp.

"hmm, that feels nice." jamie's eyes slip close for a few second before he opens them back up, turning his head to look over at his wife with a stern expression on his face, "what did i say about just buying me shit? it's my job to surprise you with stuff, not the other way around."

"this is a good surprise, i promise. now, close your eyes and hold your hands out."

"baby, i swear, if this is another one of your tiktok pranks, i'm sleeping on the couch for a week." jamie sighs before doing as she says.

belle takes the test out of her back pocket and places them on his hands, "okay. open."

"holy shit! no fucking way!" jamie jumps up from the couch, pregnancy test hitting the floor as he jumps around, "no fucking way!"

the blonde watches her husband run around their living room before he rushes back over to pick the best up from the floor, his eyes closing over as he made sure he was actually seeing what he was seeing.

"baby, holy shit." jamie sits on his knees in front of belle, forehead resting on her legs as he took the moment in, "you're pregnant. baby, you're fucking pregnant."

"i'm pregnant." she runs her fingers through his hair as tears fill her eyes, one falling from her eye as she blinked. "we'll, it says that i am, but i'm not a hundred percent sold. i made an appointment for the doctor for thursday."

jamie nods, lifting his head up from her knees and bringing his hand up to wipe the tears away from her eyes, leaning forward to kiss her on the lips a few times, i love you's between each one. "i love you."

"i love you."

the video ends with a silent moment between belle and jamie, their foreheads pressed together before the screen goes black and the worlds, "baby drysdale coming 2026" appearing on the screen.
