Hello everyone,

Thank you once more for allowing me to present this annual marathon of Oscar-nominated films to your dashboards. This year, the films were grouped by category (for the most part, one day featured only films nominated in a particular category). This is the most exclusive period on this blog, as the selection of films that I can post and queue about is at its most limited. But at the same time, the blog is at its most accessible as this yearly marathon’s selection skews to more popular fare than what I usually queue. I hope you enjoyed this year’s presentation of 31 Days of Oscar once more!

What follows is the exhaustive list of all 381 short- and feature-length films featured on this blog over the last thirty-one days for the 31 Days of Oscar marathon. This is down from 2022’s record of 420. But that count remains only a fraction of the 5,145 films that have been nominated for Academy Awards since 1927 (excluding Honorary Oscar winners that weren't nominated in a competitive category).

Of those 382, 28 were short films (53 short films is the record, which was set in 2022). 354 were feature films.

aight so here we go. as requested by popular demand:

the cryptid classical music list - pt. 1: what

just a quick warning: most of these will be pieces in the "contemporary classical" genre, which means there will most likely be a lot of dissonance. and also most of it is just weird.

alright lets get this list started.

Alfred Schnittke - Concerto Grosso No. 1

And starting off strong, we have Schnittke's Concerto Grosso No. 1.

It's an interesting work because if you analyze the structure, it's very similar to a baroque-era concerto. The instrumentation is also very similar, consisting of two violin soloists, string orchestra, and harpsichord. The only difference is the addition of a prepared piano (which is a piano where stuff has been put between the strings in order to give it a different sound).

However, the piece itself is very modern. There are a few execptions, specifically the beginning of the Tocatta and various places throughout the Rondo.

This is a very eldritch-horror-esque piece due to its use of Ligeti-esque micro-polyphony. What Schnittke does is he takes each induvidual section of instruments and splits it up, similar to divisi. However, he subdivides it into 8 or 12 parts instead of a more normal two or three, leading to a very dissonant and unique sound.

Honestly, if you want to start listening to this, listen to the Rondo first; it's the most accessible movement in my opinion, but whatever order you take this in is up to you.

So. Penderecki's St. Luke Passion. Where do we begin?

The St. Luke Passion is an interesting one, because out of all the gospels Penderecki could have chosen, he picked the one that Bach never made into a passion. And the references don't stop there, whether it be the use of a baritone to represent Jesus, or the B-A-C-H (Bb-A-C-B) motif.

The work is totally atonal, and there are a lot of jumpscares. Like a lot. The music is also incredible, and its use of timbre is incredible. (listen to the "Et surgens omnis")

In addition, Penderecki makes great use of the choir, using them for vocal effects alongside singing (listen to the "Popule meus").

Okay, do you remember what I said at the top about the music getting weird? Well this is peak weird.

Black Angels is written for string quartet with a few interesting modifications. The score requires you to use electric instruments, which are a weird choice. In addition, the score calls for each player to also use a series of percussion instruments and their voice in addition to playing their instrument.

And there are the avant-garde aspects of this as well. Every modern playing technique in the book is used in this, such as playing on the wrong side of the fingerboard, applying large amounts of pressure to the bow, bowing behind the bridge, and plenty more.

I'm gonna be entirely honest: this music sparks a weird reaction. If I try to listen to it as background music, it makes me dissociate a solid 80% of the time. So apporach at your own risk.

Oh yeah, and also there are a lot of jumpscares.

Alexander Scriabin - Piano Sonata No. 5 in F# Major (Op. 53)

Okay, we're finally venturing back into more tonal territory. And we're coming back with my favourite lunatic composer of all time: Alexander Scriabin.

I'll talk about him a little bit later along the list cause I have a better piece to reference, but for now just know that he once tried to end the world with music. Anyways, back to the sonata.

The 5th Piano Sonata is in one movement and spans a lot of keys. It contains some really pretty moments, as well as some moments that make you feel a bit overwhelmed. It's also very hard. But nontheless, it's still an amazing piece, and much more accessible than his later works.

Alberto Ginastera - Concerto for Harp and Orchestra (Op. 25)

I - Allegro giusto

II - Molto moderato

III - Liberamente capriccioso - Vivace

i'm just gonna be entirely honest with this one: the whole piece slaps.

Alberto Ginastera was an Argentinean composer more commonly known for his Danzas Argentinas (Op. 2). But nonetheless, the Harp Concerto, the Piano Concerto No. 1 (we'll get to that one later), and the Piano Sonata No. 1 (not on this list) all slap.

Performance provided:

The Harp Concerto is probably the most accessible out of the three works I just mentioned, and that's because it goes hard. Because the harp can only be tuned to 7 different pitch classes at a time, and since they cant be tuned to double flats or sharps, it forces the music to be very tonal.

And this is they key to the work: the limitations of the harp are easily dealt with, and the harp doesn't feel overused.

luke had had it, once august of 2025 rolled around and liona had just gotten back from europe for her internship. she had spent the better part of her summer exploring paris, milan, london and other places with her internship through conde nast for her internship for school. she had come back different, but a good different. her red hair topping it all off. he had no issue with the things she'd done or who she had met, he was more than thrilled and excited to hear all about it. but what he was not happy about, was the fact that chris had made a move on her after a night out in paris.

chris had gone to europe after he graduated in may, while steven and gavin had gone to europe for a study abroad - and they had all met up in paris to spend some time together. the four of them had just left a night club and chris and liona had decided to go on a walk around the district before calling it a night, and after securing some ice cream he decided he would try to kiss her. it took a few seconds to recognize what was happening, before pushing him off and immediately beginning to scream at him. she pulled her hair, shed some tears and told him she never wanted to see him again, to which she regretted the last part. she had said it in the heat of the moment, but luke was more than willing to never see him again. but he knew he had to confront the one guy he was most unsure of, and the most insecure with. him and liona had two decades of history that he couldn't ever attain or amount to or better yet, he could never fill. he respected their friendship because it would have been wrong of him to tell her no, he could never dictate what she did or who she talked to. ellen had raised him and his brothers, better than that. but this, this deserved to be spoken.

luke pushed open the back door of the hamptons house, and made his way down to the private beach where chris was currently getting ready to surf. it was just before sunrise and after a night of tossing and turning, he had to get up. he watched as chris picked up the board and glanced back towards the house before setting his gaze on luke. luke was halfway across the beach front before he pulled his right knuckle back, and swung at chris. his pale hand connected with chris' nose who instantly swore and grabbed ahold of his nose, dropping the board. "what the hell dude?" chris screamed, his gaze deadly as he looked back at luke whose gaze was just as much. "you know why." luke stated, and he watched the realization trickle down chris' face. chris licked his lips, his gaze falling towards the sand and then out to sea. heavy breathing was the only thing you could hear besides the waves rushing in. luke could feel his heart beating in his ears as he tried to calm himself down, but it was no use. "do you still love her?" luke questioned after a few minutes, and chris chuckled while still holding his nose. he turned to face luke and gave him an amused look, "why would you ask me that, knowing it wouldn't change how she feels about you?" he questioned and that made luke's anger and annoyance soar. luke's hands found his hips, turning to look back at the house once more. trying to find some clarity in his buzzing thoughts.

"why would you ask me if you already know the answer?" chris questioned and luke turned to look at him again. "you know how she is, you know how good of a human being she is, how she pushes you and surprises you at every turn and how she keeps you on your toes and in the next moment, it feels as if you're home. she has become your home. or how her nose crinkles when she lies or that she licks her lips when she is nervous. you think its easy for me forget all of that? especially since I've known her since we've been toddlers, you think i can fall out of love when I've been in love with her for years? years before she realized it?" chris paused to wipe his nose, and laugh. "you wouldn't realize how hard it is to fall out of love with somebody like her." he finished before beginning to walk up back towards the house. luke stood there, letting him walk up the path. unknown to them, liona had seen everything. growing curious on why luke had left without warning, she went to explore.

as luke walked behind him he boldy spoke, "that doesn't change the fact that you haven't apologized to her...or me." luke boldy stated. chris paused as he reached the pool area and turned around to face luke. "who said i was sorry or remorseful? i definitely don't regret it." chris said with his chest, confidently and boldly. liona hadn't reacted in time, and was not sure if she could regardless. luke had pushed chris into the pool and the two of them hit the water with great force. "no!" she screamed at the top of her lungs before flinging the back door open and screaming. "luke!" she screamed at the top of her lungs, hoping to coax him out of the pool. tears flooded her vision as shock and anxiety coursed through her veins, and did not realize arms had wrapped around her from behind trying to pull her away from the scene. nor had she realized that gavin and sean had jumped in after the two and pulled them apart.

liona fell back a bit as rainn made her take a few steps back, and rain grabbed her to keep her from falling over completely. Um aspecto muito triste do relacionamento entre Luke e Vader é que eles passaram boa parte do tempo como inimigos, atacando um ao outro com sabres de luz e nunca tiveram uma chance de consertar as desavenças de ambos como pai e filho.

Não Perdoaria - Leia

Vamos ser francos, o relacionamento entre Leia e Vader não é dos melhores, e para jogar mais lenha na fogueira, Leia foi forçada a assistir a destruição de Alderaan, o planeta onde ela viveu boa parte da vida dela. Esse tipo de cicatriz nunca poderia ser curada, mesmo que Vader tivesse sido redimido por Luke para o Lado da Luz...

Perdoaria - Obi Wan Kenobi

Durante um certo tempo, o fracasso de Obi-Wan como Mestre Jedi ficou evidente, no entanto, com a morte do Imperador pelas mãos do ex-aprendiz dele, o reencontro com Anakin seria uma das melhores coisas com a qual ele se alegraria. Mesmo que Anakin estivesse dominado pelas Trevas, parte dos ensinamentos de Obi-Wan ainda estava em Anakin e isso ajudou ele a salvar Luke e a destruir Palpatine. Vader pode ter matado Obi-Wan, no entanto, o Mestre Jedi jamais seria capaz de guardar rancor contra o padawan dele.

Não Perdoaria - Han Solo

Han Solo jamais perdoaria Vader. Embora Vader não tivesse destruído o planeta-natal de Han, a tortura à qual ele foi submetido na cidade nublada de Bespin, na qual ele foi transformado em uma placa de carbonita foi a pior das experiências pela qual Han passou.

Perdoaria - Ahsoka

Ahsoka, assim como Luke, jamais desistiu de acreditar que o coração de Anakin ainda era nobre, mesmo depois de ter visto o rosto do Mestre dela por trás da máscara de Darth Vader. Anakin retornando como um Fantasma da Força certamente faria ela se alegrar. Ahsoka seria uma das poucas pessoas, ao lado de Luke, que certamente passaria a maior parte do tempo ao lado de um redimido Anakin.

Não Perdoaria - Conde Dookan

Essa foi forçada demais. Conde Dookan antes era um leal membro da ordem. Ele era mentor de um importante Mestre Jedi, Qui-Gon Jinn. No entanto, após à morte de Qui-Gon pelas mãos de Darth Maul, Dookan passou a questionar seriamente o lugar dele entre os Jedi. Não, Dookan jamais perdoaria Anakin, muito menos Palpatine. Dookan jamais perdoaria o Imperador por tê-lo descartado como um mero peão depois de perceber que ele já não tinha mais utilidade para os planos dele, e muito menos Anakin por ter-lhe cortado as mãos e cabeça... Mas peraí, não foi Dookan um dos estopins para a derrocada de Anakin para o Lado Sombrio?! Vale lembrar que ele decepou uma das mãos de Anakin, e tendo o orgulho ferido, ele quis vingança contra Dookan. Hipocrisia não tem limites para Dookan...

Perdoaria - Mestre Yoda

Não tem como saber se Mestre Yoda seria mais ou menos indulgente quando comparado com Obi-Wan, no entanto, de uma coisa podemos ter certeza: o sábio baixinho verde veria Anakin como um aliado, considerando o evento decisivo que resultou na destruição da Segunda Estrela da Morte. Em Star Wars III: A Vingança dos Sith(2005), Yoda nunca perdeu esperança em Anakin como fez Obi Wan. Durante o duelo com o Imperador, Yoda disse que ele estaria seriamente equivocado a colocar muita confiança no aprendiz dele.

Não Perdoaria - Chewbacca

Chewbacca não é um membro da Ordem Jedi, e não tem nenhuma história com Anakin. Na visão do Wookie, Vader não causou nada além de dor e sofrimento irreparável para os amigos dele, então, se ele fosse fazer contato com o Fantasma da Força de Anakin, o encontro não provocaria nada mais do que um rosnado furioso. Chewie também se lembraria da tentativa de assassinato contra Yoda, na qual Anakin estava envolvido, embora indiretamente.

Perdoaria - Capitão Rex

Não está claro se Rex saberia que Anakin havia se tornando o temido Darth Vader. E mesmo que ele soubesse, seria ilógIco afirmar que Rex sentiria hostilidade pelo Fantasma da Força de Anakin, justamente porque ele iria se lembrar daquele que era um comandante e amigo. Vader esteve no comando da 501ª Legião durante as décadas de reinado do império, e sempre tratou os subordinados dele com extremo respeito, um fato que um clone como Rex apreciaria... Vale destacar que Ahsoka libertou Rex do chip inibidor dele, o que fez com que ele fosse um dos poucos clones dentro do agrupamento militar clonado a questionar a Ordem 66, na qual muitos Jedi morreram.

Não Perdoaria - R2-D2

R2-D2 é um personagem único, porque ele parecia ser o epicentro de toda a saga Skywalker do começo ao fim. O pequeno astrodroide mecânico estava lá para ver a queda de Anakin e testemunhar os desafios de Luke. R2-D2 é raramente expressional, e não haveria nenhuma indicação de que ele trataria Anakin com respeito mesmo depois das coisas terríveis que ele fez. Quando Obi-Wan terminou o que começou em Mustafar, estranhamente R2-D2 não demonstrou hostilidade contra ele. Como ele se sentiu?! O que ele pensaria?! Sem sombra de dúvidas, o silêncio de R2-D2 não traz uma resposta clara para essas questões, mas as ações dele falam por si - R2-D2 escolheu ajudar os Rebeldes, que se opuseram a Vader e ao Império.

Hello hello! It's Christmas in July! I hope you enjoy this!

"Ah! Welcome, Lucifer!" Simeon said excitedly, moving to the side to let Lucifer in. "I'm glad you could come!"

Lucifer chuckled, hanging his coat in the coat rack near the door. "You thought I wouldn't come?"

It wasn't in his plans not to come. As soon as he received Simeon's message, inviting him to drink tea with him at Purgatory Hall, he halted out of his chair in his office and basically, made a run to it, wanting to escape- ahem, take a break from all of that paperwork piling up on his desk. One more bill belonging to Mammon, and Lucifer would turn into a paper himself.

Simeon shrugged at Lucifer's words and smiled gently at him, guiding him to the living room. "I was worried you were too busy, I don't wish to cause you trouble," he said softly. "Please, take a seat."

"No one causes trouble as much as my brothers, so don't worry about it," Lucifer promised as he did what he was told.

He saw Simeon graciously pouring the tea into their cups before something else caught his eye: right beside his cup, there was a white plate where three cookies were carefully placed in, a Christmas tree, a snowman and… was that Santa?

"Where did you get these?" Lucifer asked curiously, holding the snowman up to inspect it properly.

"Ah! These are the best Christmas cookies you will ever have!" Simeon said excitedly, grabbing one for himself from another plate near his own cup. He took a bite and hummed happily, Lucifer couldn't help but think he looked like a child. "Try them, please!"

"I didn't know you'd be so interested in… these human things," he said before taking a bite. The sweetness exploded in his mouth, it was, in fact, really good, especially right after he took a sip of the tea.

Simeon chuckled. "Luke seems excited to work on Christmas pastries," he explained, looking tenderly at the cookies. "He said he wants to surprise a certain human with them," his eyes looked up at Lucifer and Lucifer could see the mischief in them. "Are they doing anything Christmas related over at the House of Lamentation?"

Lucifer shrugged, sipping on his tea again. "I've been busy lately. I'm not sure what they're up to."

Simeon chuckled behind his teacup. "Wouldn't they be also excited to do some Christmas things with you… all?"

Lucifer narrowed his eyes at that pause, but his heart jumped in his chest at the thought of him sharing some time with that human, doing things that are common in the Human World. Didn't sound like a bad idea, he could even get Christmas presents for his brothers with the human's help and-

"You're so easy to read," Simeon said with a soft giggle.

"What is that supposed to mean?" Lucifer asked sharply, feeling a bit exposed to Simeon.

"It means that Diavolo is not the only one that can read you so well," he explained, smiling at Lucifer with that gentle, yet teasy smile of his. "I still have that charm, even after all this time."

Lucifer huffed humorlessly, resisting the urge to roll his eyes at Simeon's words. He couldn't come back with a quick answer, after all, Simeon and him were pretty close up in the Celestial Realm, so he was not completely wrong; Lucifer knew that he could still read him as well as before.

"Yeah, sure, you can think whatever you want," he said, suddenly wanting to tease Simeon back. "But we don't see each other so often anymore…"

"Haha! As stubborn as always," Simeon laughed charmingly. "I think I still can read you very well. It's true that we don't see each other as often, but I do remember everything about you."

The tone of his voice and the way the corner of his mouth lifted in a smirk, (looking anything but angelic), had Lucifer tensing up a little.

"What do you mean?"

Simeon shrugged, sipping on his tea and inviting Lucifer to do the same.

"You know, your secrets and weaknesses."

Lucifer let out a condescending laugh, hiding his mouth behind his gloved hand. "My secrets and weaknesses? Well, I'd like to know them too!"

Simeon snorted softly. "Be careful what you wish for, Luci. It can come true."

Lucifer raised an eyebrow. "Are you threatening me right now?"

"I'm just saying."

Lucifer huffed, turning his head to the side, eyes closed in an offended expression as he crossed his arms over his chest. "I don't know what you are talking about, Simeon," he said, puffing out his chest with pride. Lucifer had no weaknesses. "I think you're just talking big and I- !!"

Lucifer flinched, cursing himself mentally for such a reaction when he felt Simeon's finger poking his lower stomach, right below his navel. He tensed up and his hand immediately caught Simeon's wrists, only noting that he had already moved all the way to Lucifer from right across the little coffee table. That sneaky angel.

"So it's still working, huh?"

Lucifer narrowed his eyes, not daring to let go of Simeon's wrist. "Don't try anything funny, Simeon," he warned, showing his fangs a little. "As much as you know this weakness that you say, I do know yours as well."

"Heeeh? So you're admitting you have a weakness?" Lucifer tightened his grip on Simeon's wrist. "Now now, I admit that I feel flattered, though, to know that my former brother still remembers things about me!"

Lucifer wondered how someone as calm and sweet like Simeon could also be as sneaky and teasy like this. This was, of course, not new to Lucifer, they enjoyed to tease each other a lot back in time, but it wasn't less surprising. Nobody would believe him if he ever said that Simeon could act this… devilish.

"I can't with you, Simeon. Didn't you invite me for a cup of te-eeehehehe!" Lucifer gasped, feeling his ears heating up as a blush crept to them.

Since when did Simeon have two hands?! He was simply stupid for thinking that Simeon would stop just because he told him to! Now Lucifer couldn't stop the giggles breaking through his lips as Simeon's hand latched to that horrendous sensitive spot above his hip.

"Oh my goodness, was that a giggle, Lucifer?"

Lucifer shook his head, biting his lower lip to stop those embarrassing sounds as his free hand tried to catch Simeon's hand squeezing that spot over and over.

"No? I think it did sound like one! I didn't know you could still make those sounds!"

Lucifer felt the blush on his ears crept to his cheeks. He hated to know that he still could make those awful sounds. And he hated that Simeon still remembered so well where he was ticklish! And he especially hated that Simeon's tickles were one of his weaknesses!

"Gotcha!" Simeon said, freeing his wrists from Lucifer's grip and latching his hand above his other hip, squeezing both sides almost frenetically.

Lucifer squeaked and he threw his head back with a loud cackle. His knees went up, trying to protect his hips, but Simeon easily avoided them and kept tickling Lucifer there, wrestling him until Lucifer had his back pressed against the couch, failing his arms and squirming around, trying to escape Simeon's fingers.

"S-Simeon! S-Stahahahahap th-this instahahahant!" He giggled brightly, wiggling his hips from side to side as Simeon kept focusing on that spot. "I'll kihihihihill you!"

"Will you, now? You seem too busy laughing your head off to do so, Luci," Simeon teased, giggling when Lucifer squeaked as Simeon's fingers pinched the edge of his hips. "I can't believe you are still so sensitive!"

Lucifer shook his head, not believing it either. It had been a hot minute since the last time he was tickled, so he was extremely surprised to find out that he was still so sensitive!

"Nahahahat thehehehere!" He nearly shrieked when he felt Simeon's hands moving to his lower stomach, but before he could reach that spot, Lucifer grabbed Simeon's arm and pulled at it, dragging him down until Simeon was the one with his back pressed on the couch and Lucifer was straddling him.

"Oh? Such a swift move, Lucifer!" Simeon praised him and Lucifer look at him with feral eyes, making Simeon's lips tremble with a nervous smile.

"You… looked for this, Simeon," Lucifer said, quickly pinning one of Simeon's hands under his knee as he lifted the other one over the archangel's head.

Simeon struggled, shaking his head and giggling already. "W-Wahahahahait! I apologize! I apologize!" He begged, but Lucifer only smirked down at him before his free hand made contact with Simeon's unprotected underarm.

"No! Wait! I- AHAHAHAHA!"

Lucifer chuckled. "Was that a cackle?" Lucifer asked in a light, but dangerous voice and Simeon could only nod as he threw his head back, pulling at his trapped arms. "So this is still your worst spot, huh?"

"It ihihihihis! P-Plehehehehase, Luci! I'm s-soAHAHAHAHA!"

The poor angel was positively howling with laughter. His head was thrown back in hysterics as Lucifer expertly tickled his armpit: scribbling his fingers in, rubbing deep and quick circles with his thumb, vibrating his fingers in, pinching at the smooth skin - just every technique he could remember from the past that successfully drove Simeon crazy with laughter.

Lucifer chuckled at seeing his former brother squirming and bucking under him, desperately trying to make Lucifer stop, and a sudden wave of melancholy rushed through him. He saw himself back in the Celestial Realm with Simeon's laughter ringing in his ears as he wrecked him mercilessly. Simeon always provoked Lucifer until they were tickling each other, but Simeon always, always, lost against Lucifer.

No matter how hard he tried, Lucifer always managed to turn the tables on Simeon, wrecking him until he was a shrieking, hysterical mess or when Michael told him to give poor Simeon a break.

Seeing that Simeon was already tearing up and his cheeks were extremely flushed and his laughter was a bit wheezy, he knew this was not going to be any different from those times.

"Do you give up?" He asked with a playful smirk doing that digging right in the middle of Simeon's armpit that always drove him up the wall.

"N-neheheveaaHAHAHA!" He shrieked when Lucifer vibrated his fingers against his skin. "Okay! Okahahahay! I d-do gihihihive up! S-Stahahahahap!"

Lucifer chuckled, feeling a little extra mean as he kept tickling Simeon until his laughter turned silent and his body gave up on trying to escape the tickling.

He stopped slowly until he was brushing Simeon's hypersensitive skin and he jumped and squeaked softly, however, Lucifer still held him in place, trying to make sure Simeon wouldn't have the great idea of attacking him back.

"Lehehet go ahalready!" Simeon said with a giggle, feeling his armpit tingling as it was still exposed.

Lucifer chuckled again, but before he let go of Simeon, he couldn't help but look over at Simeon's exposed hips.

"Honestly, how is it that Father lets you wear these clothes?" He asked, poking at Simeon's hips repeatedly, making him giggle brightly.

"Becahahause I'm gohohorgeous! I sahahaid I gihihive up!" Lucifer actually laughed at that as he let go of Simeon, taking a seat on the couch as if nothing had happened.
