Based off a post I saw with the idea that Robert Smirke had fourteen friends, each falling too/representing a different entity, with Smirke himself being the Extinction.
To get the obvious ones out of the way: Jonah Magnus as the Eye, Mordechai Lukas as the Lonely, Maxwell Rayner as the Dark, and George Gilbert Scott as the Buried; these ones are all canon. Not directly canon but a pretty reasonable assumption is Simon Fairchild as the Vast; we know Simon had Maxwell Rayner help him with his Awful Deep ritual in 1853, which was only a few years before Smirke died, and Smirke hung out with Rayner a ton, so it makes sense for Simon to be part of the group (though by a different name; he only started going by “Simon Fairchild” in the 1930s). Another fairly reasonable assumption, in my opinion, is John Franklin for the Hunt. Franklin is canonically a Hunt avatar in The Magnus Archives, his real-life timeline overlaps with Smirke and the rest, and Rayner was canonically interested in his expedition, which was probably because he wanted to use Franklin’s knowledge of arctic exploration for his ritual, but could also imply they knew each other, and therefore, Smirke’s gang.
For the Corruption, my first thought was John Amherst, but he only became an avatar during the Second Boer War, which was about half a century after Smirke’s time. Instead, John Snow is a better fit. He was an English physician who lived during the same time as Smirke, and he had something going on; his descendant Neil Thompson has a syringe that belonged to Snow that had Corruption properties, so Snow fits. For the Slaughter, we could go with Charles Fleming. We know he was in China from at least the beginning of the First Opium War in 1839, and Smirke and Jonah and the rest were up and active on their supernatural studies since at least the 1810s, so it’s theoretical Fleming could have hung out with them, even though he didn’t become touched by the Slaughter until he went to China. Maybe he came back later, though he was in China at least until 1862. Alternatively, William Hall, the actual captain of the Nemesis, could be an option, his lifetime overlaps pretty well with Smirke’s, though there is no evidence he interacted with the Slaughter besides his interactions with Fleming and the Nemesis. Still, he was probably a bit more high-society that Fleming, so I kind of prefer him. Finally, for the more reasonable ones, we have Joey Grimaldi for the Stranger. Grimaldi’s timeline overlaps with Smirke’s, and we know he was affected by the Stranger even before he was turned into Nikola Orsinov. The reason I’m choosing Grimaldi instead of Gregor Orsinov or Nikolai Denikin is that we know for sure he was in England while Smirke was, unlike the other two.
Now for the more out-there guesses. For the Flesh, there are a few options. One is Eustace Wick, the Lutheran priest-turned-cannibal, who did live at the same time as Smirke, but he became an avatar in 1832, died in 1845, and has no evidence that he’d even been to England, considering he’s American. The other options would be Benjamin Carlisle, Benjamin’s unnamed wife, or possibly some other relative or descendant of theirs. I find this one the more likely choice, because Jonathan Sims specifically wonders how Benjamin Carlisle’s wife was able to give her statement to the Magnus Institute, considering she starved to death in a cave on the Oregon Trail in 1845, as well as the fact that an apparent descendant of her, Toby Carlisle, is living in England by the 21st Century and has enough of a connection with the Flesh to be pretty severely affected by the failure of the Last Feast ritual. The unnamed Mrs. Carlisle being the Flesh representative does mean she presumably gave in and cannibalized her husband, and the timeline only gives her about a decade to have hung out with the rest before Smirke’s death, but I think that fits, considering what Smirke said about just coming up with theories about the Flesh in his statement.
The Spiral has similarly not a lot to go on. I would just say the Distortion, seeing as it’s an immortal manifestation of the Spiral itself. We know that Ivo Lenshik’s father was tormented by the Distortion in a human form, and apparently Lenshik’s great-uncle did too, implying that the Distortion did assume a humanoid form sometimes, before it was forced to by the failure of the Great Twisting ritual. Plus, Jonah Magnus clearly knows who the Distortion is, which yes, he could have learned at literally any point from the past two hundred years, but seeing as we’ve got nothing else, I’ll choose to believe. For the Web, the only older avatars of the Web we’re aware of would be the historical owners of the house at Hill Top Road. We don’t know who owned it during Smirke’s time; the closest we have are the unnamed blackmailer who died during the English Civil War in the mid-1600s, and Walter Fielding, who died in 1923. Walter’s son and grandson both owned the house for about thirty years before dying, so with the same amount of time applied, Walter couldn’t be our Web avatar. Honestly, the answer might just have to be “whichever Web avatar was owning the house at Hill Top Road during the first half of the 19th Century.”
For the Desolation, we have even less. Diego Molina founded the Cult of the Lightless Flame at some point prior to World War II, but we have no idea when, and it couldn’t have been that long, considering what Eugene Vanderstock says about the immortality of Desolation avatars having some kind of limit. The same is true of the End. The only known End avatar who was alive during Smirke’s time was Nathaniel Thorp, who was a Death at the time, and didn’t become human again until 1970. It’s unlikely that Deaths got breaks to socialize.
So, in summary, we know for sure about:
* Jonah Magnus — The Eye
* Mordechai Lukas — The Lonely
* Maxwell Rayner — The Dark
* George Gilbert Scott — The Buried
We can make some reasonable assumptions about:
* Simon Fairchild — The Vast
* John Franklin — The Hunt
We can make educated guesses about:
* John Snow — The Corruption
* William Hall — The Slaughter
* Joey Grimaldi — The Stranger
We can make complete guesses about:
* Mrs. Carlisle — The Flesh
* The Distortion — The Spiral
* Owner of the house at Hill Top Road — The Web
And we have nothing for:
* The Desolation
* The End
If anyone has ideas or things I missed, let me know.

My Creepypasta but The Magnus Archives style AU
Okay so this is an old AU that I would like to explain and write, but my street cat is currently sick and he's requeiring all my time and energy and that's okay!
There'll be only character roles and AU explainations in this post.
Character roles and which TMA character they match;
Judge Angels//Alice "Daisy" Tonner, Police officer called upon to deal with paranormal cases
Nurse Ann//Annabelle Cane, Avatar of The Web
Zero//Basira Hussain, Police officer called upon to deal with paranormal cases
Vladimir and Zachary//Breekon and Hope, Mysterious deliverymen and servants of The Stranger
Slenderman//Elias Bouchard , Head of The Magnus Institute
Mary Vaughn//Georgie Barker, "Host of the What The Ghost?" podcast
Ben Drowned//Gerard Keay, Mary Keay’s son and acquaintance of Gertrude Robinson
Rouge//Gertrude Robinson , Former head archivist of The Magnus Institute
Nina The Killer//Helen Richardson, Real estate agent merged with the Distortion
Lulu//Jane Prentiss, Avatar of The Corruption
Masky//Jonathan Sims, Head archivist of The Magnus Institute
Clockwork//Julia Montauk, Hunter and daughter of Robert Montauk
Homicidal Liu//Jurgen Leitner, Collector of paranormal books
Hoodie//Martin Blackwood, Archival assistant at The Magnus Institute
Jane The Killer//Melanie King, Proprietor of the "Ghost Hunt UK" Youtube Channel
Laughing Jack//Michael Shelley, Gertrude Robinson's assistant who was merged with The Distortion
Laughing Jill//Nikola Orsinov, Plastic mannequin created from Joseph Grimaldi
Zalgo//Peter Lukas, Avatar of The Lonely and captain of the Tundra
Kate The Chaser//Sasha James, Archival assistant at The Magnus Institute
Trendderman//Simon Fairchild , Avatar of The Vast(edit:he's changed from Offenderman to Trenderman)
Ticci Toby//Timothy Stoker, Archival assistant at The Magnus Institute
Eyeless Jack//Trevor Herbert, Self-proclaimed vampire hunter
Notes;
-Creepypasta characters, which are the equivalent of The Magnus Archives characters, were selected without caring about gender and the character whose personality is the most similar with TMA role was replaced with creepypasta character.
-The terms like The Stranger, The Vast, The Spiral, The Buried and blah blah and being an avatar etc. will be explained in future as in the podcast.
-Although I'm trying not to go out of personality to a large extent, there will be many things that do not fit because this is a completely different universe.
-Most of the Creepypasta characters are not killers, and some external appearance features have been arranged accordingly. If you don't like it, you don't need to read it because it's an AU. It's that simple.
-This AU is set in London, just like the podcast.
-If there is a thing that you are uncomfortable with, just don't read it. TMA is a podcast series full of really interesting horror stories, and if you're feeling uncomfortable, it's quite normal but please don't push yourself too much.
- All statements in the 200 episodes will not be mentioned in this AU. Only as much of it as will help you understand the AU will be edited into the AU.
-The dialogue is not exactly the same as in the podcast, because it will vary depending on the characters, but the critical scenes may be the same.
-I think that's it, have fun.
-And for you to have a better idea, The Magnus Archives description;
"The Magnus Archives is a weekly horror fiction anthology podcast examining what lurks in the archives of the Magnus Institute, an organisation dedicated to researching the esoteric and the weird. Join new head archivist Jonathan Sims as he attempts to bring a seemingly neglected collection of supernatural statements up to date, converting them to audio and supplementing them with follow-up work from his small but dedicated team.
Individually, they are unsettling. Together they begin to form a picture that is truly horrifying because as they look into the depths of the archives, something starts to look back…"

Welcome to Ritual Counceling for aspiring Avatars!
"Please... Dear Cult of the Lightless Flame. What is this? What. Is. This? You cannot - and I will stress this, you absolutely cannot - just say 'we'll wait until our Chosen One decides'. That is not even a ritual! Are you even trying?"
"Yes, doing something with meat makes sense, but have you thought about something else than just throwing it in a hole? The church is a nice touch, I understand, but... you could be doing something with the meat? Or better yet, involve... actual people? Who are afraid? And not just run into your ritual on accident?? You know... FOR THE FEAR???"
"Mr Crew, 'Simon will figure it out' is not an admissible ritual. Simon has never figured out anything in his life. And it is a long, long life."
"Please always remember our three Do's: Be scary. Be big. Be on theme. Yes, that also counts for you CuLT OF THE LIghTLeSS FLaMe, why again did you try to birth a child, to fuel your destruction ritual? Care to explain that one?"
"'Just running around :)' is a lovely idea, my dear hunters, but please start consulting me, after you figured out, how your ritual ends. Please. For my own sanity."
"Yes, dear war ghosts, using war is very on theme, but you have to understand that confining your ritual to a boat, is a generally bad idea, if you want the slaughter to OOZE OUT INTO THE WORLD!!"
"Oh, hello, Mr Kennedy, I am sorry, but this is an Advanced Class, 'how to torture 101' is just around the corner :)"
"Also remember out three Dont's: Don't create your ritual around any structure that can explode. Don't involve something extremely specific that you cannot duplicate. And lastly DO NOT antagonize your arch nemesis while creating your ritual. Yes, we have been over this, Gertrude Robinson counts as your arch nemesis by default."
"Please, Jane, why again did you try to open a portal to the hive, while attacking an archive full of fire extringuishers? Care to explain that one to me?"
"Look at Grimaldi's Circus, they figured it out! After the mistake of using the old gorilla skin they switched to the skin of any Archivist, which is way more common to get! Now have you thought about moving your ritual to Greece?"
"I cannot believe this, Cult of the Lightless Flame, you managed to involve both your Arch Nemesis - the Web - AND Gertrude Robinson in your shitshow of a ritual. You barely have a ritual and still managed to screw it up."
"Mr. Banks, stop sleeping in class! I do not care how spiritual the experience is for you!"
"I know, your uncle sponsors this institute, Mr. Fairchild, but you still need to put up an idea that is more concrete that "idk, space?" What, you actually sent a guy into space? That is lovely, what did you learn? "Space, scary?" ..... I don't know why I even bother..."
"What do you mean, Cult of the Lightless Flame, your Chosen One decided to kill herself after one second of doubt?... Did you at least burn her?..... EXCUSE ME???"
"That's it. I am hanging up the portrait of Jonah Magnus again, until one of you can figure somthing out that at least works as decently as his... oh, now the Lukas family is actually working on something."
#the magnus archives#tma#this idea is too fun to me but I am too lazy to make this into a full story#so for now you get random funny dialogue snippets#that popped into linda's and my head#agnes; i love you so much!!#but the desolation ritual is soooo stupid.....

I hate Jonah with a sweeping passion. Yet arguably, Before Apocalypse, he caused the least direct, physical harm to anyone out of the avatars we know - barring Oliver and other End avatars. Most of his actions were manipulations and mind games, not violence, pain, or death.
Compare that to the others we get to know. Think of Nikola/Grimaldi, who kidnapped, killed (or worse), skinned, and puppeteer’s dozens or more people. Look at Rayner and his cult or Jude Perry and hers, both cults deriving joy and power from the pain and death they cause to others. Look at Jane Prentiss and John Amherst, both spreading their corruption and killing others in their own way. Look at the Lukas’s - specifically Peter. We know he ritualistically sacrificed one of his crew every trip and sent people into the lonely when he’s bored or annoyed while “running” the Institute. Consider Jared Hepworth twisting people into painful, slow deaths for the mafia, stealing their bones for himself, then feeding their leftover pieces to a hungry maw beneath the floor before moving on. Hells, look at Gertrude, ignoring or out right sacrificing her assistants for “the greater good” even as she refused to become a proper avatar herself, thinking her actions were justified, that she was balancing the scales.
Compared to the rest of them, Jonah was more like Annabel. He took a hands off approach, twisting and manipulating people and events to get his way but rarely actually hurting anyone directly. We know of what, two people he killed hisself? Gertrude Robinson and Jorgan Leitner, both of whom were about to upend his plans, neither of which he killed simple for pleasure, even if he did enjoy it.
Now, big picture he obviously hurt the most people ever given it was his ritual that set the Apocalypse in motion. But if he had miscalculated or Jon hadn’t ever read that particular statement-incantation (for Lexi m lack of better word), or was just flat out wrong about his ritual working this time, and the Eyepocolypse never happened, then Jonah Magnus would be one of the least violent and least destructive avatars in the story. Not a good person, still an emotionally and psychologically abusive and manipulative man, but also one of the least dangerous to the average person on the street.
The nature of The Eye means that it is only interested in seeing and observing the harm done by others, not creating harm in and of itself.
So, yeah. Here’s my lukewarm defense of Jonah Magnus as an avatar of Beholding.
He’s still a cunt, though.
I think about Jonah Magnus a regular amount, and I especially think a lot about the fact he’s often portrayed as ‘the worst’ so to speak, which, when considering the perspective of the other characters, this makes sense. His actions are personal — direct. However, regarding analysing and understanding his character, I think it’s important consider his own words, and remember that he’s more or less in a similar position to every avatar we’ve come to know.
My guess is it’s of how Jonah is presented within the story, and the viewpoint from which we experience the story, that we come to know him as somehow worse than all the others. His goals are essentially the same as many other avatars, that being the desire to start a ritual, the only real difference being that his ritual succeeded, and his actions impacted the main POV character — Jon — deeper than anyone else.
This isn’t to say what he did to Jon wasn’t awful mind you, the point is that it is, and because it quite literally shaped Jon’s entire arc and his progression into deep self-loathing and blame, it becomes harder to view Jonah as just an avatar. He has to become this force of evil instead.
But, if we wind back to episode 92.

We get a glimpse of his mentality, and it is about what you’d expect really, it’s something we see from Jon, the difference being Jon makes a choice to save Martin instead, but before that, he’s intimately familiar with this desire to Watch and to Know and to Understand. He and Jonah are both Avatar’s of the eye after all.
There’s almost a tragedy here, to me at least. There always is with avatars, whoever they were beforehand. The choices they’ve made have lead them to this point, to this Becoming, where even people they may have cared deeply for once become secondary to their hunger. I’ve said in a different post that Jonah is a painfully lonely person, and his own mentality as an avatar is definitely part in blame for this, always keeping people at a distance, unable to see them as anything but objects to study.
It doesn’t mean he lacks care though, as seen here too.
The fact he kept Barnabas’ Bones for around two centuries is enough to make that clear. He cares, somewhere, but caring does not satisfy hunger, and so, if the time comes, it must be cast aside.
We can’t really say for sure who Jonah was before the Eye, whether his quest for power and immortality was something that developed before it, or because of it. I imagine his fear of death has been a lifelong thing, which is fitting considering life expectancy wasn’t exactly as long as it is now, but that isn’t to say his desperate desire for immortality started then.
We just don’t know.
It’s fitting, oddly enough. Most avatars don’t seem to recall when it began for them either, when they changed and Became. Whoever Jonah was before, he has long since given it up, like so many before him, and that, as always with TMA, is a tragedy.

OOC: I do have a "canon" ship on this blog in the form of Nuriel Flame + Arlyn Icia. They've always been together since I created them and forever will be no matter what verse they're in.
If not romanced when RPing within verses, the following muses may possibly get together with each other as background romantic pairings:
Rafaele Baptiste + Lukas Usbeorn
Olivia Grimaldi + Nathan Richter
Note that this is highly dependent on the RP situation and how involved the above muses are in each scenario and/or verse. XD

Lonely Tim in the archives time
Okay so this is part two of the Timothy Lukas au rant XD An au where Tim gets adopted by Peter lukas when he's around 8. He and Danny were adopted by different people.
Here's the context on how Tim grew up you don't need it for this post as this post is focused on the institute and the archives but it gives some context involving danny ^^
Anyway here's me explaining more of this au XD
Okay so after the incident where Tim saves Danny from the circus, Danny is rightfully scared and terrified. So Tim does his best to comfort his brother but being a lonely avatar that just sacrificed some of the circus' dancers does not make it easy. Danny begins to worry about what's going on since his brother is just a normal person raised in a rich environment right?
The call he gets from a person Tim called grimaldi over the phone didn't help calm his nerves.
So Danny begins to look for more on his brother and begins to worry he got replaced by something supernatural or became a monster in the time they hadn't had contact.
He finds some stuff and urban legends which causes him to become suspicious that Tim has been lying to him. Especially when he learns about the rumours and stories surrounding the Lukas family and specifically the tundra which Tim mentioned was his father's ship. So he ends up joining the magnus institute as a researcher to figure out what's going on despite Tim trying to discourage it.
That's when he find out that Tim is Elias stepson, more reason not to trust Tim added to the pile.
Tim visits and helps the institute out often enough that he's considered an honorary employee of the institute even before Danny joined it. He often brings new artifacts, comes to bring information or a statement giver but he also just visits the institute to see elias.
He's known as Lukas Jr by most people and is seen as a bit weird due to his tendency to talk a lot. When it comes out that Danny and Tim are brothers Danny often apologises for Tim's behaviours.
Still Danny does his best to act normal since he doesn't want Tim to get suspicious of him.
Then Danny gets assigned to be an archival assistant for Jon by elias. Tim is absolutely furious at that when he finds out, immediately going to elias the next day and punsbing him in the face. (@4bsent-damascus made a great one shot about this btw ^^)
After that Tim introduces himself to the archive crew, accidentally talking too much (which danny apologises for, Martin and sasha both don't mind). Jon is annoyed at the interruption so Tim offers to take everyone to lunch in a restaurant he likes. Danny tries to deny since he knows how this ends.
At the restaurant Martin, sasha and Jon realize how expensive this place is and immediately worry that Tim could easily get fired even though Tim just meant it as a friendly gesture and not a powerplay. (Later on they assume he could easily pay to get them fired)
Behind the scenes Tim works to keep Danny and his new friends safe since he cares or him. Martin isn't stuck by Jane as long as in canon although Tim does let her go since elias asked him to do so and he owed elias a favour. Makes sure the table with the not them is extra secure so sasha doesn't get replaced when the worms attack.
Tim still keeps everything about the fears a secret though until Jon compels him since he knows how dangerous it is and doesn't want to hurt the few people he feels like he has genuine connections with besides his dad.
So that's until where I thought about so far
I do have a couple of extra notes though ^^
When Gertrude was the archivist he got along with Michael and Eric sometimes babysat Tim
Gerry and Tim know eachother, Gerry doesn't trust Tim but they don't hate eachother. They could even be called friends.
Elias only finds out about Tim when Peter comes one day with Tim saying he couldn't find a babysitter for him.
That's the au so far ^^ hopefully you liked it

I was bored so I made a list of all the avatars I could find on the magnus archives wiki and grouped them based on how they came into power.
Notes and explanations under the cut.
Some of this is artistic interpretation, but here's how I picked each category:
Called refers to someone who was compelled or otherwise drawn to their power. Some people like the Cult of the Lightless Flame members I put in this group even though we don't get a description of how exactly they made their decision, cause I think it's safe to assume someone who joins a cult is called to it. If the person wanted something abnormal thats related to their power (ex: Hezekiah Wakely wanted rest but this was due to his connection to the Buried) I counted them as having been called.
Bargained refers to someone who directly traded something for their power, such as protection for others or to save their own life. Some aren't super clear, but if someone desired something unrelated to their power I put there here. Examples: Mike Crew wanted to escape the fractal creature, Robert Montauk killed to protect his daughter.
Taken means something transformed them or they didnt choose their power. Technically ever avatar makes a decision, but their choice doesn't always directly lead to power. Some, like Georgie Barker, were attacked and survived touched by their Entity, others were turned into something else that served their Fear, like the anglerfish victims.
Born is pretty straightforward, if someone has family that was also an avatar, they will likely go into here. I made a few exceptions in cases where we know what choices a character made, for example, Julia Montauk didn't follow in her father's footsteps, but instead began Hunting to defend herself. Some avatars are creatures that seem to be born as they are, like how the NotThem implies it has always been a monster. I also count Nikola as being in this category even though she was once Grimaldi, because she was created in her current form.
Finally, Unknown is where it isn't clear what happened to make this person an avatar. I tried to find a reason for everyone I could, so the ones here don't have any explicit or implied reason for coming into their power on the wiki. It is likely I missed or misinterpreted things, but this is just for fun so I'm alright with that.
Some interesting notes:
Entities where there are a clear majority of avatars that were Called include the Buried, the Dark, the Desolation, the Eye, and the Web. The Dark and Desolation fall into this group because a majority of avatars we hear about are cult members, but the Web has a clear preference for recruitment. Almost all the Web avatars felt some calling to it, which fits well with its whole manipulation deal.
I thought the Corruption would also have a lot of avatars that were compelled, which it does, but a majority of them are taken. A lot of people get attacked by bugs and roll with it, I guess. Jordan Kennedy also contributes to this category and he's the only avatar that became one entirely against his will, so that's interesting.
The End gains a majority of its followers through bargaining, usually for extended time where they are dying. Oliver Banks was the only one who was drawn to death, which makes him a pretty unique character. Or else just really goth.
The Flesh and the Slaughter have a lot of stories about people that are never explained, so there's a lot of unknowns for them. The Stranger also has lots of unknowns, but I think that's because it's, well, the Stranger. Like, what's up with the anatomy students? Why are they doing That?
The Spiral also has a lot of unknowns, which is fitting, but it also takes a lot of its avatars. This is mostly the Distortion's fault, nobody involved with it wants to be there. That's why I made the color for the Taken category yellow, cause it matches the yellow door.
The Lonely is, of course, skewed toward avatars born into the position. Because the Lukas family is probably huge at this point and loves yoinking people. Also I didn't include Evan Lukas even though he's listed on the wiki as an avatar, because I respect his wishes to be cut off from his family.
The Vast has only three avatars, and Harriet Fairchild being included is pushing it. This makes it the Power with the least amount of avatars mentioned in the show, which feels ironic somehow.
The Eye has the most variety, and is the only one to include people from all 5 categories. This is probably because it is focused on the most in the show, though it is actually only in second place for number of people, losing out to the Corruption. It would have had the most if I included all of the archival assistants, but I didn't because they don't really manifest any powers, they sort of just work for the Eye unwillingly.
Anyways, I had fun doing this and I hope you enjoy it too.

NHL Expansion Draft 2021: Full list of players available for Seattle Kraken

The NHL announced the protected lists for the 30 teams involved in the NHL Expansion Draft. (Vegas is exempt.) With the names of those protected come the guys who could be snatched up by the Seattle Kraken. There are a number of big names that have everyone trying to figure out just what general manager Ron Francis will do. Will he take Canadiens netminder, and future Hall of Famer, Carey Price and his hefty cap hit? Is Vladimir Tarasenko the sniper he needs or is his health a big question mark? There's also a number of guys who would fit in nicely but are free agents and the chances of signing them are not high (i.e. Alex Ovechkin). EXPANSION DRAFT: Date, time, rules & more for Seattle Kraken team selectionRegardless of what Francis, coach Dave Hakstrol and Co. end up doing, there's a good chance the Kraken will be a playoff contender in just their first season. For now, let the intrigue and the guessing WWRFD (that's: what will Ron Francis do?) begin. Here's a look at every player they can pick.

wip; midnight bird
((updated version))
Working title: Midnight Bird (also Project Belethier)
Genre: ya contemporary, mystery
Status: writing the first draft (35k words)
POV: third person, past tense

Synopsis: Seventeen-year-old Étienne Belethier returns back home, after a year in France. After a calm year abroad, Étienne struggles to find happiness in the town he once called home. To the people there, he’s known as the boy who ran away from his problems, and maybe that’s exactly who he is. Navigating school life and utter loneliness, becomes unbearable when his father’s abusive tendencies return. Étienne finds himself relying on the one thing that helps him numb all the pain he feels inside of him - his father’s pills. But once his father finds out about it, all hell breaks loose, and Étienne realizes he can no longer function properly without them.
That’s when he meets nineteen-year-old Lukas Grimaldi. Lukas is ruthless and fearless, and Étienne feels drawn to him from the instant he meets him. Lukas helps him back up. Lukas makes him feel loved again. Lukas becomes his family.
But then Lukas ends up in a street fight. A classic one, caused by unpaid debts and fueled by alcohol. Everything changes the minute one of the men involved gets killed. That’s when Étienne realizes he just got himself into something way deeper, than he had originally planned.
