Thank you! Some real thinkers here...
Sci-fi 🧪: What future do you want for you and your wip/s?
So, I uh. Do not have much faith in getting a publishing deal for this, nor do I particularly want to. I would love to see the books, particularly in the Luica Universe, hit a broad audience, of course I would, but I don't think I'd want to be ~famous~ you know? I don't want everyone to know my name, I want a solid, dedicated fanbase.
So I guess for that what I'm looking at is indie publishing, maybe a Patreon? I was thinking Royal Road but I really need to get a hand on its pulse first, know how to ride the waves. Those are the big dreams: website: royal road, website: mine, indie publishing / patreon.
On the small scale, I really want me and my friends / family to have a hard copy in hand.
Self-help 💭: writing advice that has greatly helped your writing
I've collected a lot of quotes over the years, but as far as helping me in the process of writing I have to say the most important quote I ever heard, a real game changer, is "you can edit anything but a blank page" like... I cannot stress enough how much that quote helped me accept that first drafts were messy and not necessarily my best work and that's okay.
The concept that as long as you have words on the page, you can rewrite / edit to make it better, was huge. I mean I guess part of me must have known that academically? But I'd never internalized it. Now that I have it's practically a mantra, and it's soothing to remind myself: you don't have to be perfect, just get the words on the page.
There are three more I would like to give honorable mention to because they were also incredibly helpful in my growth, but aren't necessarily about me writing:
Perfection is the enemy of finished
Don't take critique from someone you wouldn't ask advice from
If you're uninspired, seek inspiration
Children's lit 🧒: would you ever see your book being taught at a school or university lit class? If so, what would the topic be on?
I... huh. Honestly I can't imagine it? Thinking on it, I suppose if there were topics it would be:
how time passed and space apart still doesn't change fundamental human nature
fearing things that are different than your normal and the inherent danger of assuming that makes them bad
why easily accessed, free or insanely cheap healthcare is a necessity for society to flourish (I know, I know right now is quite a time to discuss that.)
It has some themes of what I think must count as racism but in the least some sort of bigoted bias, and there's a lot of superiority complexes later on for having things and abilities the others don't. For a book including different branches of humanity and some aliens it's really a lot about human nature, the bad and the good.
Hope this satisfied! Feel free (you or anyone else) to ask for clarification!

Wonka (2023)
Tumblr media
Wonka practically steps onto the stage and declares itself a new favorite. When the film was announced, it was met with skepticism. We’ve already had two adaptations of Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Going back to see how the book’s most memorable character became who he is felt like a desperate attempt to cram more chocolate down an already-filled stomach. Here’s what the naysayers should’ve paid attention to, however: writer/director Paul King. I know you loved Paddington and its sequel, Paddington 2. Everything that made those films great – except for the titular bear – is present here, along with catchy musical numbers. This is a lovingly assembled film the whole family will eat up.
After an extended journey around the world gathering the rarest ingredients and learning everything there is to know about sweets, Willy Wonka (Timothée Chalamet) dreams of establishing his own chocolate shop. Unfortunately, his initial trip to the Galéries Gourmet sees him pushed out by the “Chocolate Cartel”. Shortly after, he’s swindled out of his savings and forced into indentured servitude by Mrs. Scrubbit (Olivia Colman) and her co-worker, Bleacher (Tom Davis). He’ll be doing laundry for the next twenty-five years unless he can settle his debts. The only way to do that is to become the chocolatier he's always dreamed of becoming.
Wonka has been called a “companion piece” to 1971’s Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory but come on. It's a prequel. Two songs are reprised/expanded upon, several visual cues are ported over and Chalamet’s portrayal of the titular character is reminiscent of Gene Wilder’s. If you were to watch the films back-to-back, however, you would spot certain inconsistencies. Some, there’s no way you could’ve worked around, such as the character Hugh Grant plays. I won’t spoil what his part in the film is (even though he is on the poster) but if you were to watch this movie before the original, he would give away one of the latter’s biggest surprises. There’s also an aspect of Wonka’s character that’s a bit off. I personally think people label WW&tCF as being much darker and scarier than it is but you can understand why people would call it frightening, or "a gateway to children’s horror". This film has no cynicism or darkness in it whatsoever. It’s one of the reasons why it works so well but if this film is indeed a prequel, that's an inconsistency.
With those minor complaints out of the way, let’s talk about the many ways Wonka succeeds. First, the cast and tone. There are many villains in this movie. Keegan-Michael Key plays the corrupt, chocolate-addicted Chief-of-Police. Paterson Joseph is Arthur Slugworth, the leader of the Chocolate Cartel. He, along with his cohorts Gerald Prodnose (Matt Lucas) and Felix Fickelgruber (Mathew Baynton) are not above sending innocent people to be enslaved or even murdered. Then, there’s the extended Cartel, which includes a small, but funny role for Rowan Atkinson. Finally, the combo of Mrs. Scrubitt's & Bleacher. On paper, these characters are quite sinister - even children are being enslaved by Scrubitt and Bleacher. Despite that, you kind of… like them. They're all delightfully ridiculous and quirky. You can tell the performers are having a blast hamming it up – in the best way. They’re all evil. They all love being evil. You love seeing them do their thing.
Nearly everyone we meet is more eccentric than anyone in real life could ever be - including the other "inmates" at Scrubbit's boarding house (played by Jim Carter, Natasha Rothwell, Rich Fulcher and Rakhee Thakrar), except for the friend Wonka makes once all his money is stolen: an orphan named Noodle (Calah Lane). She’s in a worse spot than anyone else, which makes her apprehensive and cynical but also most receptive to the idea of hope once Wonka gets going. You can bet that by the end, all of the heroes will have played an important part in the story, even if their skills seem to make them kind of useless. Seeing how they fit in the big picture is part of the fun.
Between the big laughs and musical numbers, we get scenes of magic and wonder - the kind you can only in worlds where people spontaneously burst into dance. There's something so earnest about Wonka. It knows exactly what it wants to be and isn't afraid of going for it. Paul King takes single gags and turns them into characters for the sake of a big punchline at the end. You can tell from the way the story flows that's going to be the case and there's almost a sense of suspense as you wonder what's going to happen with that. Wonka pokies fun at itself more than once but is willing to be serious when the scene calls for it. That's what makes it, why it's a great prequel to Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
Wonka is the kind of movie I wish we’d see more often. You think back to the movies you used to see as a child and it feels like we used to get ones like this all the time but actually, we didn't. Movies like this one are rare, it's just that they're so much fun you never forget them and they get passed down from generation to generation so it feels like there's this large library you had before and haven't been able to add to. Push away any apprehension you might've had initially and you'll see. Wonka fits in with those childhood favorites. (November 22, 2024)

Lucas: Why are you looking at me like that? River: I am a simple man, I like what I see. -winks- Lucas: You like watching lanudry being hung? River: When you do it, yes. Lucas: You are a silly, silly man.
River pulls his sunlight close, before winking at him. River: You are magic sunlight, you make laundry special Lucas: So.. I should do laundry more often?
He chuckled, feeling himself pulled into a kiss, he should clearly hang laundry more often if this was the result.

Tumblr media
July 23, 2021
Lucia was buttoning the last buttons to her white button up shirt, she slipped on her navy blue suit jacket that matched her navy trousers. She put on a pair of black loafers and slipped on a few important rings and tucked one of her curls behind her ear. Lucia had been convinced by her mother to let her naturally curls out for the day and not have her every day braid crown.
“Look at you!” Ellen cooed as she stood at the bathroom door smiling proudly at her youngest and only daughter, “I am so proud of you Lucia Winfred.” Ellen gently brushed a hair off her forehead. Ellen couldn’t be more proud of her kids but there is always a different level of proudness when it comes to her daughter, as she continues to make history and never letting anyone stop her fork achieving what she wants.
“Thank you.” Lucia mumbled softly leaning into the comforting touch of her mother.
“Everyone has gotten here.” Ellen told her daughter, Lucia wanted to get ready as late as could.
Luica nodded and followed her mother out of the bathroom and through her bedroom and down the stairs and she saw the house packed with friends and family.
Lucia stood by her mother as they went around saying their hi’s to everyone before Ellen told her to go sit at the couch as the draft was about to start.
Lucia sat down and fiddled with the cuffs of her suit as Quinn sat down on the right side of her.
Quinn nudged his little sister softly, Lucia looked over at her oldest brother and he just smiled nudging her again.
“You know i’m suppose to be the annoying one.” Lucia quickly quipped to Quinn, Quinn just laughed and fondly smiled at his sister he could tell she was nervous and wanted to keep her mind off everything.
“You are.” Jack sassed as he sat down on the other side of his sister and gently pulled one of her curls, he softly smiled enjoying the eye roll he got in return.
“It’s not like you’re any better Rowdy.” Lucia sarcastically nodded back at Jack.
“Ouch Moosey.” Jack gasped dramatically holding his chest in fake offense.
The three straightened up as they felt the look coming from their mother as she sat down across from them.
The Draft started and the ducks has just picked the third pick, now the Devils were walking up to the stage.
Lucia took a slight breath and stayed looking right at the tv.
“With the fourth overall pick, the New Jersey Devils are proud to pick from the USA development program, Lucia Hughes!” Lucia barely even stood before she was tackled by Jack, who was literally shaking with excitement at the of thought of being able to play with his little sister.
Quinn put a hand on his sister’s back keeping her from getting knocked over by Jack, and quickly hugged her too.
Lucia let out a laugh but hugged both of her brothers back just as tightly as she realized she just got a step closer to accomplishing her life long dream.
Ellen cupped her daughter’s face feeling her eyes filled with tears and pulled her into a tight hug.
Lucia hugged Jim tightly and he kissed her cheek before she turned to the rest of family and hugging all of them.
Lucia after a few minutes had been congratulated by everyone and she walked back to the couch where her brothers were waiting.
Jack picked up the Devils hat and his jersey, he handed the jersey to his baby sister and watched with a proud smile as she slipped it on and Jack thought that she fit the Devils jersey.
Jack smiled and gently put the hat onto her head and he tapped the top of her head, “I’m so proud moose.” Jack soflty spoke quietly for only Lucia and Quinn to hear.
“Thanks Jacky.” Lucia beamed back, Quinn smiled bittersweet at his younger siblings. Quinn was proud of his sister but he also couldn’t help but be sad that the three of them couldn’t all be together but he’s glad at least now Jack will have Lucia with him.
Lucia sat back down on the couch between her two brothers as they were interviewed, Lucia answered everything he has to ask before finishing it up and saying bye to all of the cameras. Lucia was very glad they were gone, she hated them.
Lucia luckily was able to sneak off for a few minutes and away from everyone, she hopped onto the kitchen counter and started eating some of the snacks in the kitchen.
“I’m not surprised.” Jim fondly shook his head as he walked into the kitchen, anyone that’s knows Lucia knows she is always hungry and that she hates being around a lot of people. Jim had a feeling he would find her in kitchen eating and being away from everyone.
“Don’t know what you’re talking about Dad.” Lucia mumbled as she shoved one of the chocolate chip cookies she knows her mother baked.
“Sure kiddo.” Jim fondly smiled he walked over to her and picked a cookie up as well, he gently touched her face pulling her closer kissed the top of her head, “I’m proud of you Kiddo.” Jim has always been better at actions than words but he knew his kids need some words every once in awhile.
“Thanks Dad.” Lucia soflty mumbled and grabbed another cookie shoving into her mouth making her Dad laugh and shake his head as he headed out of the kitchen.
Lucia made a happy sound and she looked around the kitchen and saw a plate of spring rolls from a small Chinese restaurant in Michigan that she loves. She grabbed a few and hopped back onto the counter happily munching.
“Baby Hughes eating?” Josh Norris gasped sarcastically as Quinn and him walked into the kitchen, he knows Lucia could out eat anyone and quite literally has to have the faster metabolism ever.
Lucia just shrugged and kept eating the spring roll. Jack walked in and made a happy sound seeing the spring rolls in his sister’s hands and he walked over to her trying to grab one from her hand.
Lucia glared smacking his hand away, “Get your own.” Lucia glared at her brother and gestured to the whole platter of them on the other side of the kitchen.
Quinn just smiled he missed his siblings a lot through out the year and he’s tends to even miss their little arguments during the season.

Who was i, to deserve such a love?
Word count: around 2.1k Warnings: none except teeth rotting fluff and dadrry
Authors note; Hi! First post! I wrote this last year, but Lucia was just the other day, and i decided to post this to really set the mood for Lucia and christmas. I really love Lucia, and as a Scandinavian girlie i celebrate it religiously every year, and last years Lucia resulted in this messy piece. Again, i am in no way a professional writer, this is unedited and MESSY, but if you have any feedback for me or just an encouraging word or two, i'd love to hear it <3 enjoy lovelies.

It’s Elidas big choir day in the local church. Harry was struggling to get Elida’s coat on, clumsy fingers trying to zip up her tiny coat. He’s huffing and puffing by the time she’s finally got her thick winter gear on to combat the icy winds on the other side of the door. Y/N is situated on the couch, still. Feeding their fresh baby, Ruth, just four weeks old. Ruth whimpers and writhes in her arms, not yet decided if she’s full or if she’s ready for her nap. ”I’ll buckle her up in seat, take your time, lover.” Harry shouted from the hallway, popping the baby bubble Y/N was currently in. Shaking out of her thoughts, she rises from the couch, Ruth on her shoulder, trying to get one final burp in before heading out to see Elida sing in the Lucia choir.
Harry never really understood the Lucia tradtition. When Y/N first started seeing eachother they were both living in London, which Y/N understood quickly, had no Lucia arrangements on december 13th. However, Y/N went on and on on their first few dates in december talking about the tradition. In scandinavia Lucia is celebrated on december 13th every year. Lucia was an old saint, apparently. Her story was told as she was a young woman, living in Sicily around 300 years A.D. She refused to be married of to a man and suffered the consequenses of a martyr death, but in her memory, it’s common to bake saffron buns and light candles, to bring some light in the absolute darkest season. Harry knew he was in love with her the moment she told him the story about Lucia. He knew by the time she had finally found a Lucia celebration in London and dragged him with her, that he wanted to buy her a ring. Harry was sold just hearing hear speak about her roots, traditions and her passion for keeping up with it, even though she was far away from home.
-
Y/N had been up early that morning with Ruth, leaving Harry to get another hour of slumber as he had been up with her throughout the night. She knew she couldn’t have a Lucia without her saffron buns. So there she was, barely 5 am, throwing sugar, flour, yeast and saffron in the mixture, Ruth drowsy on her chest. She had been trying to make this a tradition in their home, so that her family could wake up to the smell of freshly baked saffron buns on Lucia morning. And she was tired, god was she tired, but the smiles on Harry’s and Elidas faces when they wake up would be priceless, this she knew.
-
And now years later, having just welcomed their second baby girl, Y/N had signed her up for the Lucia event in their local church. She couldn’t help herself, she knew Elida would make the sweetest Lucia and Harry, although slightly apprehensive about a chuch choir, agreed when she reminded him about the tradition and how important it was to her.
With everyone in the car, Elidas long white dress and pretend candlecrown packed they left, warm and fuzzy in the cold weather, and knowing that tears will shed from their eyes watching ther first daughter participating in the event. Harry grabbed the sling and put Ruth on his chest, leaving Y/N to help Elida get her white dress on. ”Mumma, i’m going to be Luica!” Eldia proudly said when she was finally dressed. Twirling around and dancing in her long gown in the entrance of the church. Y/N smiled at her daughter, pride filling her chest at the little person she’s forming into. ”You are, my love. The prettiest one.” Ruth was fast asleep on Harry’s chest, letting out small puffs of air while Harry’s lips were constantly ghosting on the top of her head, breathing in the baby scent that he just couldn’t get enough of.
Elida was off as soon as she saw her choir teacher, giggling with all the other children in the choir and getting their little voices ready for the event. Y/N and Harry sat down on the benches, quite up front sp they could get a good look at Elida during her performance. ”How are you feeling?” Harry murmured, sound muffled with his lips still ghosting over Ruths downy hair. He had noticed how Y/N had gotten quiet, and by now, he could read her quite well. He knew she was excited, nervous, proud, all at the same time. But of course, he’d still ask. She let out a breath she had been holding, body inching closer to Harry to let her in on his warmth. ”I’m alright, it just feels…full circle in some ways. I can’t belive this is where we ended up” She gave him a watery smile, eyes glazed over from the overwhelming feeling. Harry chuckles. He knows exactly what she’s talking about, and he’s thinking about it too. How their little girl grew up so fast. How it feels like it was yesterday when Y/N had dragged Harry along to his first Lucia celebration, with that all consuming, freshly in love feeling aching in their hearts.
Harry had grabbed her hand as they sat on the bench in the old church, giving it a squeeze to get her to look at him. ”I never imagined myself being where i am today, and i wish i could tell you how all of this feels for me too, but i think you already know.” He said, eyes already watery as he’s thinking of his oldest baby girl performing in just a few minutes. Y/N smiles, leaving him with a kiss on his jaw, and a kiss on Ruth’s soft head. She squeezed his hand back, and she was just supposed to answer him when the lights dimmed and and the faint voices of the childrens choir started sounding in the back of the church. Their heads turned towards the back of the church, seeing a little train of children dressed as Luica, gingerbreadmen and little elves trailing down towards the altar. Elida was singing on the top of her lungs, not yet having spotted her parents in the crowd, and looking around the church like the curious child she is. Harry and Y/N was beaming with pride as Elida finally spotted them in the benches, waving energetically, with Harry and Y/N waving back.
With the choir in the front of the church, their little candlecrowns slidning here and there on top of their heads, Ruth had started writhing againgst her father’s chest. The mummy instinct immidietly kicked in with Y/N and she turned her head away from Elida to coo at her second baby girl. ”I’ve got her, i’ll walk around for a bit to soothe her” Harry said, a now experienced father to his newborn. He rose from the bench, ditching the sling in his seat, cradling Ruth in the crook of his arm. He sneaked out of the row, walking down the aisle while bouncing Ruth, whispering incoherent scentences to his littlest love. Y/N had to turn around to the front, focusing on Elidas performance, instead of watching her glorious baby daddy having a moment with his daughter. She let out a shaky breath, he looked so good with their baby in his arms. She’d give him a million if she could just to watch this scene unfold again and again. Not that there was anything special with his looks on this particular day, just plain beige trousers and a loose, button up shirt. The sleeves were rolled up due to the heat in church with all the candles, and his uruly hair is tamed by a single hairclip.
Suddenly Elida spots Harry and Ruth in the back of the church, bouncing around with slow steps. Elida takes a step forward out of the choir, searching to contact with her father, and the moment she knows that she’s spotted him, she waves and waves, and finally let’s out ”Hi daddy!! Hi Wuth!” With her tiny, but mighty, 4 year old voice. Harry is startled, the crowd of people turning their heads to the back of the church where he was stood. Many women oogling his tattooed forearms with his fresh baby cradled in the crook of one. Y/N couldn’t stop laughing, it was like a pot boiling over as she let out a genuine laugh at her daugher. That girl truly had no shame. Y/N watched Harry as he blushed, raisin ghte hand that wasn’t holding Ruth, and waving, shouting back. ”Hi darling!” A stream of giggles and embarrassed laughter rolled through the church, finding their little Elida absolutely adorable with her curly hair and crooked candlecrown.
-
As they stepped through their front door, with one sleepy child in each of their arms, Y/N and Harry smiled at eachother as they put Elida down for a nap after her big day. Ruth got changed and put in her crib for some downtime. The parents stepped out of their daughters bedrooms at the same time. ”You know,” Harry said as he walked up to Y/N. ”She’s absolutely insane, that girl, i don’t know if we’ll be able to keep up with her.” Y/N raised an eyebrow, eyeing him. ”Hmm, and i wonder where she gets that from?” Acting clueless as a big smile takes over her features. Harry bites down a laugh, looking down at the floor below them, grabbing Y/N to bring her close to him. ”She did really good.” He said, eyes still gleaming with pride. That was his daughter, His own flesh and blood becoming a person and growing up in front of their eyes, all too quickly, ”She did. I really hope she’ll take on the tradition and love it as much as we do. I have to say though, i thought maybe she would freak out when she saw the crowd, i’m surprised she didn’t care too much” Y/N said softly, knowing that Elida wasn’t nessicarily shy, but she could definitely become overwhelmed with that many people. Harry nodded, looking down at Y/N, a look in his eyes. ”Are you even listening to me?” Y/N laughed as she tilted her head, questioning him. ”Mhm, i’m listening. Just thinking.” He said, proceeding to hide his face in her neck, leaving a few soft kisses around her pulsepoint. ”Yeah? Penny for your thoughts?” She answered, genuinely interested if it was going to be a horny answer, or a lovey-dovey answer. ”I’m so in love with you. I’m so in love with our daughters. I want you to know that i’m not taking any of this for granted, not you, not these traditions, not our love. I just…i feel like my heart is bursting with all these emotions for you, Elida, and Ruth, that i sometimes don’t know where to put them.” He confessed, head still in her neck, crouched down, with Y/N’s hands running soft patterns on his back. This was indeed not a horny comment. She smiled, taking his face in her hands and looked at him. ”You put them here. With me, in our home, with our family. Write it down, take pictures, spend time. I know just the feelings you’re talking about. I feel it too. And although i sometimes have a hard time accepting that this actually is my life, i’m so thrilled about it. I love you, you know this, but…i promise to never stop putting my feelings here as long as you promise me the same.” She said, eyes scanning his features, landing on his forrest green eyes. ”I promise.” He said, leaning in to catch her lips with his. Warm, plushy lips dancing together, like they were made for eachother. ”I love you.” He told her between soft kisses, ”I’ll never stop, i don’t think i can.”

I need a crossover between Bayonetta and Devil May Cry so badly man like it's been on my mind ever since I finished playing all of the DMC games (Expect the Reboot) and replayed Bayonetta. PLEASE CAPCOM, HIDEKI KAMIYA (If you ever come back), PLEASE GIVE US A GAME WITH DANTE AND BAYONETTA 🙏
Honestly, I feel like if they ever make a game featuring those two, it will definitely break the internet. Wacky woo-hoo pizza man who is a legendary devil hunter teams up with the charming, alluring witch who defeated gods and angelic beings, what a perfect duo. It will be so hype but for the hood reasons of course! I mean, these game franchises are so so popular, and we fans are practically wanting the company to make a game between the two of them
The DMC characters and Bayonetta characters will have great chemistry together:
Obviously, Dante and Bayonetta
Vergil and Jeanne
Nero and Viola
Sparda and Balder
Rosa and Eva
Rodin, Luka, and Nico
Luka and Morrison
Bayonetta, Jeanne, Trish, and Lady
Enzo and Dante
Luica and Jeane
And many more!
It would be so cool to see the two franchise of the same creator interact with one another. I mean, I believe it's confirm they're in the same universe as in one of the books when Dante was under the alias, Tony Redgrave, Enzo was seen and when Bayonetta was receiving guns in the first game, she had a pair of guns that resembled Ebony and Ivory. But again, Hideki is in bad relations with Capcom so it could also not be canon; despite that, there's a possible of them actually canonical being in the same universe. Anywho, I just wanted to rant a bit. I'll start publishing some stuff soon!

Made first ever SMG4 OC
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So took me a while to think, but her name is LSMG(Luigi’s Super Meme Guardian), but she called herself Lu. She was a yellow re-color version of Luigi, before Lawsuit arc and got a new look(AH SHE’S ASIAN) and have a small scar on her cheek from IGBP movie and often play Nintendo games and the calmest out of the SMG. She’s trans(MTF). She change her outfits. I wanna say after IGBP movie, but before the western movie to feel more..feminine and changed her name to Luica. Always tried to get four and three out of trouble and lives in a small apartment and works in Three’s coffee and bombs and have Luigi’s height. Also used she/her pronouns after confirmed to be trans
Art and character belong to me. If you wanna draw fanart. Credit me!!
If you have any questions! Ask me in the inbox and I’ll answer!

we so back!! Tangled Roots thanks @welcometololaland @thisbuildinghasfeelings @birdclowns @carlos-tk @carlos-in-glasses @lemonlyman-dotcom for the tags today 🖤 you're the best and i can't wait to read all your snippets 🫶🏻
The food was being carefully laid out along a different table, covered with saran wrap or tea towels to keep the flies away. Carlos had wanted to help with the catering, but between his mom and Tia’s, there wasn’t a single dish the buffet was in need of. So, Carlos had made his Bisabuela Luica’s galletas con grageas, hoping that Ana still had a sweet tooth and a soft spot for him trying to do something nice for her.
“Carlitos!”
He turned in search of the noise. Iris sniggered next to him, she still found the Spanish diminutive funny even though Carlos had explained multiple times that there wasn’t anything to it. He thought she might just enjoy the reminder that he was the baby of his family.
Luisa walked across the yard with a skip in her step, pulling Martin behind her.
“Do you think he’s ever going to get used to us?” Iris asked from the corner of her mouth.
Carlos coughed into a fist to cover up a bark of laughter.
Luisa had been dating Martin for a little over a year so he wasn’t new to Reyes family gatherings, but he still seemed overwhelmed by the sheer volume of noise that came with them. It always took him an hour or so to settle into it and not wince whenever one of the Tias shouted across the garden to another. Carlos had joined him in the kitchen where it was quiet on more than one occasion.
Carlos opened his arms so he could hug his sister as soon as she got close enough. “Hey, Loser.”
She laughed brightly in his ear and squeezed her arms tight around his body. “Can you believe this?” She asked as she let go of him and moved to give Iris a hug while Carlos shared a handshake and a manly nod with Martin. “Our sister is getting engaged!”
“I can’t believe you haven’t spilt the beans,” Carlos muttered.
Martin snorted, then swiftly grunted as Luisa elbowed him in the side. “Believe me, man, it’s been a struggle.” He laughed as Luisa pulled a face at him. “You’ve done a great job, Lu.”
“I have! And it’s high time we started acknowledging that!”
Carlos laughed. He’d never known Luisa to be able to keep a secret before, and he’d (privately) been worried that Ana’s surprise engagement was going to be ruined before it happened. But three months after Jeremy first called to tell them, Ana was none the wiser.
“Did you make Ana’s galletas?” Luisa asked, as she tried to peer around Carlos’ larger frame at the buffet table.
Carlos stepped aside so she could see. “Of course I did. She’d kill me if she found out I knew about all this and didn’t make some. What did you get roped into?”

It Saturday ❗Tell Story 💣
STORYTELLER SATURDAY -- ACCEPTING!
Thank you for the ask! So, storytime about the process and a little bit about the characters (if there's something specific you want, though, pop in the ask)!
Writing Mechanics
I'm actually almost on to my second draft of The Cure -- I have over 100,000 words written in draft one and I'm still not quite done, my chapters are at least 2000 words long. It's a lot to keep track of, to be honest? So I have a chart with a few columns.
Chapter # (where it starts)
Subject (like, what or who it's regarding)
Initial Action (what happens regarding that subject)
Payoff (where there's a call back or fulfilling foreshadowing)
Involvement (who all is involved in the whole thing)
I originally did this mostly for foreshadowing and fulfillment, but it's also great for callbacks and tracking things to reference later. You can also fill it out in retrospect when you realize something matters that you hadn't consciously meant for it to be significant.
Character Development: Greatest Strength, Greatest Weakness
BRIA'S greatest strength, I think, is her ability to hold on to hope even when it doesn't seem realistic anymore. Her ability to look in the brightside, to be ruthlessly positive and hopeful even if only out of spite, are traits I actually try to cultivate myself.
Her greatest weakness is probably her tendency to look to others to make decisions. A lot of that is because she literally graduates from the academy during the book and does feel outclassed, as well as being younger than her friends..
GRIMOIRE'S greatest strength is, by in-universe design, his ability to learn, retain, and understand new knowledge at an insane pace.
His greatest weakness is not taking action on more emotional matters; two of the biggest examples are in his relationships with Bria and Luca and not pushing harder to have the relationships he was pining for.
LUCA'S greatest strength is his emotions, he feels strongly and deeply and also has wildly accurate intuition though he doesn't always understand it until things are happening.
His greatest weakness is also his emotions. Those strong feelings drive him and dictate a lot of his choices, including leading to a pre-book falling out with Grimoire that really could have been solved with a long, heartfelt conversation, or at least wasn't a problem yet.
Aahhhh, I do love my babies! Hope the first part helps somebody and the second part drums up some interest! I'll start sharing the story as soon as I'm on Draft 2, but in the meantime I can talk alllllll about characters, the world, and even some of the plot and premise.

----
It was a lovely day in Independence when a handsome stranger rolled into town. He ignored the calls from the white doves and the waves from other women out and about as he rode on down to the sheriff’s office. Tying his horse to the hitching post, he looked around the town, eyes narrowed as if he was searching for something.
Not finding it, he stepped into the sheriff’s office. “Hello? Sheriff Davidson?”
“I’m sorry, the sheriff’s not in right now. He’s on a patrol with the deputy.” A woman approached him from a small desk near the door. “My name is Abigail Walker; I’m the legal consultant here. Perhaps I can help you, mister….?”
The man smiled. “Samuel Winchester; Texas Ranger. I really was hoping to speak with the sheriff. I’m on a manhunt right now.”
“Well, you’re welcome to wait until he returns. He should be back in an hour if you have the time. If not, I can take a message and he can carry on the search here. Who are you looking for?”
“I’m looking for a man named Hoyt Rawlins. I’ve heard he comes here in between his escapades and I have a bit of a personal score to settle with him. That’s why I came here first.”
Abigail hummed. “I see…. Well, I’m sure the sheriff will be happy to help you track him down but you’re probably better off asking around town; he has a few good friends here who might know where he is. I’d start with Lucia Reyes at the Side Step Saloon. From what I understand they’re…intimately close.”
He nodded. “I’ll take that under advisement, Miss Walker. Please let the  sheriff know I’m waiting for him.”
—---------
Lucia put up the last of the new shipment of whiskey when the saloon doors swung open. “Aye, we’re closed,” she said over her shoulder. “And, no, I’m not letting you drink early if you pay extra for ‘early service’.”
“Not here for a drink, ma’am.” Heavy boots thudded on the floor up to the bar.
Lucia turned around to see a (very tall, very handsome) man flashing a badge from under his coat. “Samuel Winchester, Texas Ranger. I’m looking for someone and I was told you might be able to give me some information.”
She nodded. “Of course. I’m always happy to help the long arm of the law. Who are you looking for?”
“I’m looking for a man named Hoyt Rawlins.”
Lucia groaned. “Good Lord…. What has he done this time?”
“Attempted murder of a Texas Ranger and theft.”
She balked. Hoyt was a thief, that much she knew. He robbed banks and trains and stagecoaches alike. But murder? He may travel in dangerous circles but even when she doubted him most, she never imagined he’d stoop so low…. “I don’t know anything about that,” she said carefully.
“Are you sure?” He leaned on the bar, getting in her space. “I’m told you two have an intimate relationship.”
Luica scowled at him. “We did. He made a lot of promises he couldn’t keep and then he bailed on me when I needed him. I haven’t heard from him in months. Maybe you should check in with Ruby and her girls at the hotel down the road; they’ve probably seen him more than I have.”
“Apologies, Miss Reyes.” The ranger had the decency to look sheepish. “It’s just that my contacts told me he spends a lot of time here in Independence and I thought this would be my best bet. Is there any chance he’s in town without you knowing?”
Lucia sighed. “Well…. If he wanted to avoid me, he’d probably go to the bar at Hagan’s. You can speak with the manager there, Kate Carver. She probably knows more than I do.”
Samuel shook his head, a small chuckle escaping him. “A woman manning the sheriff’s office, the saloon, and the best hotel in town? That’s a first for me.”
Lucia giggled, shrugging. “What can I say? Independence is…special.”
He smiled. “I think I’m starting to see that.” He pushed off the bar and tipped his hat to her. “Thank you for your help, ma’am.”
“Of course, Ranger. Come by for a drink sometime?”
“Maybe I will.”
—----------
“Excuse me, Miss Carver?”
Kate looked up from the paperwork on her desk to the man standing in the doorway of her office. “That’s me. What can I do for you?”
“I’m hoping you can help me find someone.” The man walked into the office, flashing his badge as he did so. “Samuel Winchester, Texas Ranger. I’m looking for a man named Hoyt Rawlins.”
Kate quirked an eyebrow. “Are you looking to arrest him or is this more of a personal grudge?”
“Little bit of both.”
She shrugged. “Well, I think you’d have better luck speaking to Lucia Reyes at the Side Step. She and him-”
“Have an intimate relationship. I’ve heard. I’ve already been to speak with her though and from what I understand, they had a bit of a falling out and aren’t on speaking terms. She told me I might have luck asking you for leads.”
Kate hummed. “She’s really done with him then. Interesting.” She put down her pen. “I do wish I could tell you where to find him but I haven’t heard from him recently. He skipped town a few months ago and he hasn’t so much as sent a letter. But, I can give you a lead on a good tracker if you think that’ll help?”
Winchester sighed. “I’ll honestly take anything at this point. I’ve been looking for him for months now and I’ve got nothing except a few rumored sightings. It’s like he’s a ghost or something.”
Kate chuckled. “Honestly, he’d be easier to handle if he was a ghost. But he isn’t, which means he’s left a trail. If he was here recently, which he probably was if you heard word of him being out this way, there’s evidence. And if anyone can find it, it’s Calian. He’s a tracker for a local apache tribe and he’s helped finding missing people before. I’m sure he’d be willing to help. Tell him Kate sent you.”
Winchester nodded, tipping his hat. “Will do. I appreciate that.” He turned and walked away, hopefully to find his man.
—-----------
The sheriff did return to Independence, but the Ranger was long gone by then. Abby took her leave from the office early and went to meet with Kate at Hagan’s for their nightly gossip. Working the hotel and the sheriff’s office, they heard a lot. But tonight, there was only one thing on their mind.
“So, the ranger.”
“Handsome devil, wasn’t he?”
“Charming too. Respectable.”
“And tall….”
Kate chuckled. “Yes, very tall. Heard he spoke with Lucia.”
“I may have sent him that way.”
“Playing matchmaker, Miss Walker?”
Abby shrugged. “You know how she was after Hoyt left last time,” she murmured. “Don’t you think she deserves someone who will stick around for her and not just because he’s got nothing better to do?”
“And you think the ranger is that someone?”
“I think he could be, if she gives him a chance.”
Kate hummed. “You’re assuming he’s infatuated with her.”
“Of course he is. Who wouldn’t be? Hell, who isn’t, in Independence?”
“Fair enough.” Kate smirked. “I suppose I’ll have to be extra accommodating next time he comes by; make sure he has a reason to come back.”
“Atta girl.” They clinked their glasses and downed their drinks before moving on to the next topic of conversation. “Quite a storm last night, wasn’t it?”
—---
Lucia needlessly wiped down the bar. It had been a slow night for the Side Step but she wasn’t ready to close down just yet. She just had a feeling about tonight.
The doors swung open, letting in a small gust of wind, and she turned to see a familiar face walk in. “Evening, Miss Reyes,” said the handsome ranger from weeks ago.
“Good evening, Ranger,” she greeted, a smile tugging at her lips. “Seems you finally learned when my hours are.”
“Well, I was hoping to get that drink you offered me.” He smiled and walked over to the bar.
“Of course. Something fine, I’m assuming? To celebrate catching your man?”
The ranger sighed. “I wish. Man’s a damn ghost. At this point, I’d be better off staking out railways. Maybe I’ll try that when I leave town.”
“When you leave?” She poured him a drink and slid it to him. “Does that mean you’ll be staying for a while?”
He shrugged. “I was thinking about it. You know, I’ve been damn near all over this state but I’ve hardly ever stayed anywhere?  Not since I left home and joined the service. There’s always somewhere I need to be, someone to track down, something to protect…. I’ve spent more time on my horse than I have in a bed.”
Lucia hummed. “I almost envy you. I’ve lived here my whole life, never traveled further than the edge fo my family’s property. I always wanted to but my parents never approved before and now…. I just don’t have the time.”
Samuel hummed. “I suppose we all have to do things we’d rather not to keep food on the table.”
“I suppose.”
The ranger quietly sipped his drink. “I don’t think it’s the traveling I mind so much,” he said suddenly. “It’s just- It’s been too long since I’ve had a place to go home to. I haven’t had that since…. Since the war.”
“Well….” Lucia extended her hand and pat his arm. “This is a pretty nice place to call home. It’s quiet most of the time and we don’t see too much trouble. Plenty of land available for sale too, if you were looking for a place to settle down….”
“That does sound nice.” The ranger covered her hand with his. “I’ve got some leave. Thinking about spending a little time here, checking the place out. See if there’s anything worth staying for.”
Lucia smiled. “I hope you find it.”
“Me too.”
