I read the last five chapters in one go and I already love Elbaph (that looks so wrong, Elbaf looks better).

First things first: Fuck the Deadbeat Dad Pirates. And not in the nice way.

Anyway, I feel like it’s s so funny, that the one giant Navigator is a fucking nuts creep (good that Nami electrocuted - probably only shocked - him).

Love that he has like 20 different pets though and apparently he is really good at sewing clothes (his design reminds me of Mr. 4/Babe?).

Chapter 1127, 1128 & 1129 were already a lot of fun and it was interesting, that I could see that everything was built with "Lego" (a Danish invention iirc).

Also only Luffy would kill a “god” and eat it, after a giants feast.

Anyway, someone buy this dude a The Sims game.

I also love how angry Luffy is with Usopp. He trusts in Usopp’s strength so much! (Also that beard lmao)

Chapter 1130

The chapter was great!

I feel like it would have been better to talk to the giants (Gerd & Goldberg) but more importantly: please Gerd, you’re a doctor… put some clothes on! It’s freezing! (Something, something, giants metabolism, yadda, yadda… idc she looks cold! And Oda is a certified perv.)

And of course Luffy just runs to Loki and is going to befriend or fight him and change everything. Also, Loki is Hajrudin‘s brother? Hmmmmmm….

Cruxifixion is a really awful way to die. Loki does not look crucified though…

But probably appropriate for regicide and patricide, caused by greed? We don‘t know enough yet to really judge.

Anyway…

I wonder if Franky was more upset about the idea of Sunny being eaten? Because the other Strawhats will be fine! They are always fine!

Look at little Bonney holding onto Jinbe!

I love that the old/adult quartet is still on the ship. And I love that they trust the rest of the crew to survive and to meet back on Elbaf and worry more about the giants wellbeing (no food and rum).

But yes! Franky is wearing a cowboy hat (and the big chain!)! It looks very similar to Robin‘s hat… and Robin is wearing her glasses! Beautiful!

Brooks‘s look also seems very classy. So does Jinbe!

(None of them know about the x of the crew in Alabasta. It also answers the question if it was painted on or tattooed.) (Second hint towards Alabasta after pervy giant looking like Mr. 4?… and of course the fact that they met Oogie and Boogie on Little Garden lmao).

And yes! Their trust in their Captain is adorable!

Overall I‘m excited for Elbaf!!!

One Piece Chapter 1130 - Initial Thoughts

And we're back once again

Chapter came out at a time between the end of my work hours so I had to wait a bit longer but now I'm ready

we're out of the block land, but what lies on the other side? Let's find out

Spoilers for the chapter, support the official release too

Yamato's cover story involves theft, Yamato, Shinobu and Tama all caught lacking as Yasu's sword is stolen

We start with the post-Alabasta crewmates, who tell Dorry and Brogy to stop searching for Luffy

They have faith in the crew, and they have expended all their search options and their food, so the giants agree to continue to Elbaf

The Alabasta crew (sans Vivi ofc) escape the building to a massive castle snowscape

The castle is quite detached from everything, surrounded by woodland on a pedestal and a long rope bridge

Giants are coming across the bridge, so the crew hide, but it's actually some friendlies

Gerd and Goldberg from Hajrudin's crew have come down about intruders

Seems Road - now Rodo - is a bit of a black sheep among Hajrudin's crew, Gerd calling him a crackpot, seems Hajrudin only has him on the crew because of his navigation skill

Oh, Prince Loki is called the 'Shame of Elbaf'

Gerd's pet owl (How Athenian) is called Piper and it spotted Muginn carrying the Sunny

Oh and Elder Jarul is still alive, from Big Mom's flashback

Luffy spots the giants and sees them as friendly, but Nami stops him because they're looking for intruders

Sanji meanwhile is simping on Gerd, while Usopp is elated to confirm that we're in Elbaf

Nami's stoppage didn't snuff out all noise, but when the giants look they do the classic video game enemy ism of 'must've been the wind'

Giant Rope Bridge though means giant gaps between steps, which some of the crew aren't used to, with giant ravenous wolves below

Usopp assures this is just a trial of courage, as he hugs the edges for dear life

Meanwhile Luffy's just on the ropes looking badass

Zoro senses that Luffy's focused on something, and it seems Luffy has sensed something

Sanji quickly asserts not to go anywhere, also grabbing Zoro as to not run off

Luffy however had no such restraint, and thus dives down anyway

Back with the Post-Alabasta Crew and the news fallout from Egghead is happening

Dorry and Brogy have been pinned for destroying Egghead, and their bounties have gone up to 1.8 Billion each

As we assumed anyway, the 100 million bounty they had back at Little Garden was a product of inflation, confirmed by Robin here

Luffy's also blamed for killing Vegapunk, Franky's annoyed (I mean he is his idol) but Lilith teases him about it

Luffy's pic has the X in it though?

Also true how do they get these photos? Apoo wasn't there, does someone cave like a camera devil fruit like that My Hero Academia filler guy?

Ah Robin is also curious about the X

Detective Robin notes that Luffy's arm is blurry save for the X, like it's separate

OH! Did Vivi embellish it on the photo like a coded message? Wouldn't it be a shame if all the crewmates who'd recognize this symbol were elsewhere???

Dorry and Brogy ask about Luffy's standing, now that he's an emperor like Shanks, and Hajrudin works under him

Oooh Hajrudin lore, he's the son of the King of Elbaf!

Hajrudin wanted to pick up Luffy but Dorry and Brogy have seniority...and he probably would've fared worse

Prince Loki lore now, seems Loki is Hajrudin's brother

He allegedly 'devoted himself to darkness' and was a few years back - so post-Lola - sentenced to crucifixion

It took all the Warriors of Elbaf to capture him

Jinbe was on Big Mom's crew so he'd know it's Loki

Oh but there's more, the royal family passes down a legendary devil fruit, Prince Loki killed his own father - King Harold - in order to acquire it

Right, don't let Loki free gotcha

And here's Luffy, clearly not about to let Prince Loki free XD

Hell of a panel though, got Oars energy here

Prince Loki looks to have a cool design, but he's been chained to the World Tree and his eyes covered, he has the Doflamingo-ism of grinning wide and sticking his tongue out

Also Norse myth connection! Loki was chained to a rock until Ragnarok, the chains were technically the intestines of one of his sons and a venomous snake would drip poison over his head (his wife would shield it with a bowl, but when the bowl was filled there'd be a brief window of pain as she emptied it, which would cause earthquakes). Upon Ragnarok he will break from his chains, his son Fenrir will eat Odin, his son Jormungandr will kill Thor, and he will kill Heimdall, but like the World Serpent at the cost of his life

He asks Luffy's name and Luffy answers the way he does

He mulls about Luffy's declaration to be a king, but answers Luffy in kind about the setting

This is War Land, the kingdom of Elbaf: the Birthplace of War

We have our big Elbaf spread, and the castle they were in for context right near the bottom

It's a giant tree with 2 tiers, the middle tier seems to be the most bustling area; Giant cannons and swords are seen in the middle level, along with waterfalls and another grand castle to the left

Loki introduces himself as the Sun God who will bring about the end of the world

Oh a 2 week break? Oda must be skipping Halloween XD between this and the anime hiatus that's a shame, but 2 weeks is doable

Another strong chapter from Elbaf, which we can now confirm to be in.

Prince Loki's design is another winner, I am slightly concerned he may end up too much like Doflamingo (killed his dad, the happy tongue thing, being chained up a lot) but we'll see, Luffy's very clearly gonna open Pandora's box here it seems. There's also the curiosity of what his DF will be.

If he's Hajrudin's brother it seems we might be getting a little Shakespearean here, Hajrudin is waiting for Luffy so he has to play a role, but does it become a civil war? In a place called War Land that wouldn't be too surprising (I doubt though it's the birthplace of war, more that it's the birthplace of Elbaf, the Giants' God of War). Or maybe Oda goes another direction, is this truly our villain or perhaps Luffy's kindness towards him begets a redemption?

My Vivi theory has latched onto my brain too, but while I like how we divided things I do hope we don't just ignore the Post-Alabasta crew, just delay them a short while - there's still Lilith, Kuma and Bonney stuff to deal with there too.

But we'll just have to stew on it for the new two weeks, the more we get answers the more we get mystery.

Ya Heard, With Gerd

Have I ever mentioned Parks & Recreation is one of my favorite live action shows? It perfectly captures the banality but sometimes cool stuff that gets done in local politics. I wish people would take half the passion they put towards yelling about global events on the Internet towards something attainable in their own backyard, things would be so much better.

I digress, but there isn't much to say about this big happening in 1130 apart from the main thrust. So...we all recognize the X right? Who's been with Morgans and would have the ability to pull her own 3D2Y? Miss Wednesday herself. Obviously this was Vivi, now we know why we split the crew the way we did. Which makes this pretty interesting actually. Because unlike Luffy's gambit the ones who need to see this don't get to. Robin kinda recalls something though and it is believable for her to remember the gang pulling this. Remember she struts out onto the deck right as they sail away, it's not unrealistic for her to figure it out. We'll see what it leads to though, usually with a paper going into an arc it comes back around at the end. Moving on though...we are here!

We'll get a little more into the Grand Fleet but I didn't want to miss this as we transition back from the paper. Hajrudin is a prince of Elbaf, who knew? This also makes me a little steamed with Dorry and Brogy because my theory the GF would come to Egghead was that close to being partially true.

Here and the fact the country is closed off we'll find out later, gotta admit that surprises me a little. The idea there's trouble on Elbaf. I just always thought the land of giants was sorta like Zou. Remote enough with a tribe that's hard to fight so the island's pretty chill. Looks like we'll be getting into something though. And idea we'll pick up.

But hey, lookie who we have here. Gerd and Goldberg, two more of Hajrudin's crew. And we have them talking a little about Road. I think it says something about Hajrudin as a leader that he'd try to bring in someone others don't like much. It all checks out, Road's kinda a weirdo and Gerd seems like a fairly girly girl.

I think it's very interesting you have what we see from the Straw Hats. And it does play into the idea Luffy has a way to go with realizing what he got from Dressrosa. If he was a little better captain...there shouldn't have been an issue. It doesn't take a lot to know a little about the crews who pledged loyalty to you. It doesn't even take knowing the subordinates! Look at Gerd's line, the one Usopp shows he heard part of. The same place she mentions Elbaf she mentions Hajrudin.

And that does make me wonder about seeing a sign from Vivi this chapter. Especially when it is something a little dodgy. If she comes back, she fills this niche. But it always seems like the scenes that nudge at her have something off. All that to say...this should have gone a lot smoother. But I guess we wouldn't get:

I wavered between showing this or Loki's full reveal. The panel on the left is what made the choice for me. So now we have another giant calling himself Sun God...but rather than being a liberator or creator like the other two he sees himself as a destroyer. We also hint at some kind of wild devil fruit.

Lot of cool stuff this chapter. Sadly it looks like we'll take two weeks off but it leaves us at a good point to ponder where this arc will go. I've always had a special place in my heart for the giants since I caught up first on Oimo & Kashi...feels kinda unreal seeing it finally. The Dragon Quest nerd in me will also always pop for Yggdrasil. At least we'll have HxH and a new Skip & Loafer soon.

I've been loving Elbaf so far, it's way too early for me to say anything in terms of what's going on but this chapter was probably the most excited I've been with the re-introduction of characters we've seen before (Gerd) as well as the picture of Luffy in the newspaper and the photoshopped x mark, like it's clearly a message from Vivi, right?! She's sending them a sign that she's with Morgan's and had access to the WEJ. That or she asked someone to edit that in for her. Regardless it's very exciting to think she's trying to get into communication with them and how that could lead her to reconnect with them maybe in Elbaf or later depending on events.

Also, that spread of Loki looked cool as hell, Oda's already popping off on the character and island designs for this arc and I'm living for it.

Shield of Elbaf

I think Guernica is plotting against the World Government.

I think his eyes are a visual cue of his duplicity. I think they are meant to represent Go pieces. CP-0 plays both side while reaping he benefits.

I think it was foreshadowed by Sakazuki who accused Cipher Pol of going over the Gorosei's head.

Guernica undermined the Gorosei in regards to Nika. He had a role in Luffy awakening bringing Joy Boy back into the world. Which I think might have more meaning.

He took the picture of Luffy in Gear 5 which became his bounty poster picture.

He has said some questionable things. He told Lucci that the World Government were no better than pirates.

He told X Drake he envied him for following his own sense of justice.

I think Guernica's betrayal will have a big impact because he was handling the governments illicit weapons deal that the navy were seemingly in the dark about.

Their last deal was apparently enough weapons for a war which is ominous.

I subscribe to the theory that some of the Sheep's House orphans became mask CP0 members.

I went back to see if any of the kids might match Guernica when I noticed this giant kid that went with Gerd to meet Big Mom. We never see his face and he disappears from the story.

When Shanks is in Elbaf we get a scene that is a call back to the first chapter with a giant child asking to join Shanks crew. And he has a helmet identical to the mystery giant child from Big Mom's past. I think Guernica was that giant child who passed down his helmet.

Giants celebrate the death and rebirth of Sun which makes Guernica's part in Luffy's awakening symbolic (if my theory is true).

Again I think his eyes reveal the truth he as one eye like Odin. Elbaf is inspired by Norse mythology the king of the giants in named Loki. As to how Guernica could be a giant I think it's because of a Devil Fruit. There is a non-canon Devil Fruit called the Mini Mini no Mi which decreases size that coincidentally were eaten by non-canon giants.

Speaking of giants it was revealed the New Giant Warrior Pirates are the ones who rescued Oharan books. Which apparently the navy did not see the value of.

They were led by Saul.

Who thought negatively about Elbaf giants. Doesn't really make sense does it.

Unless there was an inside man. I think Guernica was part of the survey crew on Ohara and covered up the books survival. I think he linked up Saul with his old comrades to rescue the books.

I'm excited! I forgot how exciting early part of an arc can be. (There's been such big gaps between the most recent and Egghead has been the shortest of the post time-skip arcs)

I know nothing about Gerd but I like her. Is it the owl? Is it that she's a doctor and we haven't had a woman doctor in a long time? Is it her name? Yes, probably all of it.

(Also curious how the Strawhats coming to Elbaf work out. Doesn't Shanks have ties and/or loyalty to the place?)

part of me was "whaaa!" about the news but the other part was like, yeah, who else are the WG going to blame?

(Thinking about that does make me curious how One Piece is going to end – or more, how will the end of the story relate to the public image Luffy has as being quite dangerous. Like, we the readers/audience know what he's like but to the world...would the world be happy with him getting the one piece if it's so important to the future. Not that I think he won't get it, but how will the world feel about it and what can of actions, if any might result? There's also the Rev. Army, some social assumptions will shift but will it matter to Luffy what anyone thinks and what kind of future for the Strawhats will that create?)
