After using Paiste 2002s for years I started looking for cymbals with a much shorter controlled decay. I didn't want to get in the way of the vocals all the time. I liked the sound of the Sabians on a Rockschool Grade Six performance video - I contacted the drummer to ask the identity of the cymbal set up and they turned out to be AAXplosions. I bought a 15" cymbal as a test. I fell instantly in love. It sounded like someone was catching/damping the cymbal every time I hit it. I loved it. Just what I wanted. I bought a cymbal pack for an incredibly low price even on credit. The set also came with a 21" raw bell dry ride. Song Lyrics. When I'm in the town And I look around I See You circa 1982 The band was The Dream. My first proper band. I answered an advert and everything. They wrote and played original material in the style of The Jam. One song lacked a chorus and, inspired by a early song by Yes, I wrote these words. The Dream liked it - they even liked the inspiration. The lesson of this tale? Like singing backing vocals whilst drumming, when given the opportunity to write song lyrics, grab it with both hands and have a go! You never know, with a little work you might end up a song writer. Loving the new @gibraltarhardware. Flat based. Lightweight. Strong. Adjustable. Just the best hardware I have ever used. Getting easier to set up every time - flat bases require a little finesse in positioning, as you can imagine. Over the years I've used Pearl, Tama and Yamaha - single braced Premier has been my favourite. Its always been a balance between stability and weight. Too much weight and transportation is impractical. Too unstable and I couldn't trust it to hold my cymbals and drums. But this stuff is outstanding. So easy to carry. Everything in one bag when I used to have to split between two. Once set up, I forget about it whilst I play. Another outing for my custom* Ludwig Rocker - this time at the Dirty Duck with @jacuzzisoup_band. This time I used 14" AAXplosion hi-hats; 18" AAXplosion crash; 10" Stagg splash; 21" Dry Raw Bell ride. After this gig's experience I still think I prefer the 20" AAXplosion crash in place of the ride. BTW at the end of the video you can see the TEMPO app which I use to check my tempos during the gig - my secret weapon.
