Lucy had been avoiding Roman since he'd rejected their drunken kiss the other night. He'd been gracious about it, but she still felt mortified about it. That combined with the fact that he'd basically told her to stop liking him, had left her feeling out of sorts. She didn't know how to stop feeling something. That was kind of her whole problem with, well, everything.

But when she saw him walking down the street next to a blonde someone she didn't recognize, Lucy decided not to turn and run and hide. He might not think she should like him, but he was nice to them, seemed to care about them, and Lucy didn't have many people around her age that did.

Hesitating, she made her way over to the two of them, pausing before reaching into her bag and pulling out a slightly crushed flower crown that they'd made earlier at one of the booths, on the off-chance she had the courage to approach him.

"I made this," she said, holding it out to him. It was made of dark purple and dark red flowers.

Lucy shook her head. "I don't mind when it's just one person," she said. It was only when it was a lot of people talking a lot and making a lot of noise that she began to retreat further into herself. Spending time with people one-on-one was easier to handle, and she enjoyed the company. Being alone was harder.

An amused snort escaped her when Lucy added flowers and simply said 'Color'. She was different than anyone Roxanne had ever interacted with, but it was kind of nice, even though she wasn't entirely sure if she was talking too much. "Is that a nice way to ask me to shut up? I will if you want."

Well. Shit. Now Lucy felt bad. "No, no that's not what I mean. We are friends. I just mean . . . I thought maybe you might not want to be after I kissed you . . . but I want to be. Your friend. I'm bad at this, I'm sorry." They spoke quickly, obviously flustered, as she tugged at the ends of her jacket sleeves agitatedly. Well, his jacket that she was wearing. "I'm not . . . good with people. I don't know how to act around them. It's easier with you, but obviously I'm still fucking up, I'm sorry." It was the most they'd said in a long time, but they were desperate not to lose him due to a misunderstanding.

"and here I thought we already were friends" Maybe Roman had gotten that wrong, or maybe it was that Lucy needed some sort of friendship clarification. Given what had happened in regards to her kissing him it might have been the second one.

Lucy smiled slightly as she watched Roman put on the flower crown. Her attention was diverted when the blonde waved at her.

"I'm Saffron, not that you're asking. It's nice to meet you," she said with a faint grin. She gestured between the two of them. "I'll leave you two to catch up." With a smirk, Saffron walked away.

Lucy watched her go before turning back to Roman. "Is that your girlfriend?"

Roman was confused when he saw Lucy reach into her bag to pull out another one that she then put on. "Oh-oh" Roman said when she finally flat out told him they'd made it for him. At the nudge he reached out to take it from her and put it on.

Lucy thought for a moment before nodding. Grabbing Roman's sleeve, they tugged him over to the bakery's booth where there were multiple pastries on display for trade or purchase. Lucy was weak to pastries, she had to admit.

A couple hours later, they had a bag full of pastries, as well as a couple bracelets she'd looked at for too long, a watch, a couple carved wooden animals, and, for the grand finale, an entire pie from the ones displayed for the winners of the flower royalty contest to choose from.

Lucy felt a fluttering feeling in her stomach, but she wasn't sure if it was the thrill of the crime, or because Roman was spending so much time with them, and was stealing things for them.

As they hid behind a flower display to eat their stolen pie, Saffron found them again.

"I saw you fucking grab that thing," she said, and for a moment Lucy was worried they were going to turn them in. But instead Saffron grinned and flopped down next to them to take a bite. "Mm. Delicious."

"Fantastic" he grinned "Now we should go find some people who look like they might have some interesting things to snatch or any of the booths that look like they have some things to lift is good too. Have you seen anything you like?"

He was right, they were overthinking it. Inhaling deeply as instructed, Lucy released the air slowly, doing her best to relax. Her grip on the sleeves of the jacket loosened, and she was glad he still hadn't asked for it back. He suggested robbing people, and while she knew it wasn't exactly the right thing to do, he wanted to do it with them, so in the end she nodded her head. "Okay."

"You're overthinking things" Roman said as Lucy sort of started to ramble. It was definitely the most he'd ever heard them speak before. "Just relax and take a deep breath. You're fine, stop apologizing. Now what do you say we go lift some stuff off of people. You can distract them with that weird stare thing you do"

"Oh. Okay," Lucy nodded, honestly feeling a little jealous that Saffron had known Roman for so long. Or maybe she was just jealous of the fact he had a best friend at all. Lucy didn't know what that felt like. She'd never had a best friend before.

"It's okay if you don't want to kiss me," she said finally. "I still want to be friends. I don't have a lot of friends and . . . I like you."

"What is what then? Saff's my best friend, my partner in crime as it were, if that's what you're wanting to know. Has been since we were teenagers."

[ambercast]

Lucy tilted her head to the side. "What is it then?" they asked curiously. He seemed pretty incredulous regarding the idea of dating his friend, but he'd never mentioned Saffron before, so it made her curious as to what exactly was the deal there.

Roman nearly choked on a laugh when Lucy asked if Saffron was his girlfriend. "Who? Saff? Oh god no" he shook his head, "no, that is not at all what that is"

Lucy hesitated before reaching into her bag to pull out another flower crown, putting it on her head before holding out the purple and red one again. "I made this for you," she reiterated, deciding to ignore the smirk and the mention of his jacket she was wearing, though her cheeks began to grow warm.

"Dude, don't be rude, wear the fucking flower crown," Roman's blonde companion said, grinning at Lucy as they nudged Roman with their elbow.

It wasn't hard for Roman to figure out that Lucy had been avoiding him since she'd kissed him at the diner. He hadn't told anyone about it, not even Saffron, and he hoped he hadn't hurt Lucy too much or made things too awkward.

He stopped when Lucy approached, ready to at least give a hello when she was reaching into their bag and holding a flower crown out to him, stating that she'd made it. "Purple and red. Cool" he grinned, looking at it though not taking it. "Did you not want to wear it? I bet it'd look really good with your outfit. Cool jacket by the way." he smirked, obviously recognizing it.

Lucy looked at Roxy for a moment before reaching into her bag to pull out the maroon and pink with baby's breath flower crown she'd made. She set it on her head and pointed to it. "Color."

She looked toward the street as Roxy continued talking about how she might pass the time next event. "I like the quiet," she said finally after a moment.

A person of few words it seemed. Roxanne realized the bubbly socialite persona she was so accustomed to wearing would do no good here, so she let it drop away. It was relieving if she was being honest. "Some dark red might spice it up without being too bright." She shrugged, sure that Lu didn't want unsolicited fashion advice. "I think I might make a bingo board for the next one of these. Squares like 'obnoxious cowboy boots' and 'more than five colors in one outfit'. Something to pass the time while people watching." She huffed, letting her head fall onto her hand and propping herself up on her elbow. "Otherwise I might just go stir crazy in this godforsaken town."

Lucy blinked, having thought she'd been noticeable to the woman before and surprised by Roxy's surprise. "I don't like a lot of color," she said after Roxy's compliment. That seemed obvious, but still. Besides, it wasn't sweltering outside, yet. Lucy was grateful for that, at least. They may have to make adjustments come summertime.

The general hubub of the town was interesting to behold, but Roxanne found that she was too sober to handle this much of a crowd for very long. She stepped off to the side of the street, huffing out a sigh and perching herself on a concrete wall. Her heart almost jumped out of her chest when she realized that Lucy was standing right near her, having not noticed before. "I have to respect the black on black in this amount of sunshine. Dedication to the aesthetic is admirable."
