Vaccine Nationalism Threatens Global Sustainability – David Zaikin
Wealthy countries that fail to ensure COVID-19 vaccinations in developing nations risk reversing gains for a global sustainable future.
David Zaikin: Local authorities distribute doses of the Sinovac vaccine against COVID-19 at a hospital in Fredonia, Colombia, on March 10, 2021.
The global pandemic response has exposed an unsettling trend. Wealthier nations have been accused of hoarding vaccines – in some cases five times more than they need – while poorer countries could wait years for lifesaving immunization. A massive 90% of people in 67 low-income countries may not get immunized in 2021, largely due to higher-income countries taking more than they need. It reads like a dystopian novel.
While Europe and North America have carried out a combined 123 million vaccinations, the entire African continent has administered just under 3 million, with many African countries facing a long wait to receive any doses. This follows a stark address from the World Health Organization's director-general, who noted in mid-January that only 25 doses had been given in one low-income country in Africa, and warned that the world is on the verge of "catastrophic moral failure."
For richer countries, failing to look beyond their own interests is counterproductive and will delay the world's victory against COVID-19. It would also precipitate another crisis – without equal and fast distribution of vaccines to the most vulnerable nations, we're undoing decades of progress toward a sustainable future and a level playing field.
MORE: An Opportunity to Improve Global Development
While new coronavirus variants intensified pressure on governments to prioritize vaccinating their own populations, it doesn't have to be an either/or scenario. Norway has shown the way to manage both simultaneously – setting out plans for its domestic program as well as donating surplus vaccine doses to countries in need.
The worldwide inoculation that we all want calls for immediate and multilateral action. That means a bigger push for cooperation between governments, industry bodies and Big Pharma to accelerate the equitable rollout of affordable vaccines.
Bridging the Widening Wealth Gap
Even before COVID-19, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development estimated an annual financing shortfall of trillions of dollars to reach the Sustainable Development Goals – a collection of global goals set by the U.N. intended to improve living conditions around the world – the goals were stymied by the pandemic's impact on resources. Delayed vaccinations will impact the development of self-sustaining economies even more, widening the wealth gap and diminishing those states' ability to navigate future crises. The World Bank predicts as many as 150 million more people could plunge into extreme poverty this year. That's a devastating step backward. In the battle against the pandemic, we can't afford to forget our objectives to end poverty and ensure healthy lives. Read more----->>>>>

Rare earth quandary: China has US by the throat - David Zaikin
‘The good news is that friendly nations like Canada, Australia, and India are naturally rich in rare earths’
Australia’s Vital Metals is getting ready to kick off mining operations at its Nechalacho rare earths project in Canada’s Northwest Territories, which will make it the country’s first producer of the elements used in magnets for electric vehicles, aerospace, defence and electronics. Credit: Vital Metals.
The facts are nothing short of startling.
A high-tech F-35 stealth fighter jet contains 920 lbs. of rare earth elements (REEs).
Each US Navy Arleigh Burke-class AEGIS destroyer has 5,200 lbs., and a Virginia-class submarine has 9,200 lbs.
These commodities are also key to the future of alternative energy, electric vehicles, mobile phones, and even headphones.
Combine that with the fact that 80% of all American rare earth supplies come from China.
A nation now run by leader, Xi Jinping, who recently ordered his Marine Corps — in an act of sheer madness, or, to up the ante on the US — to prepare for war.
It now controls four-fifths of the global mined supply of rare earths, and an even larger share of the manufacture of powerful rare earth magnets — industries worth US$13 billion a year combined.
This gives the Chinese the ability to choke off the West’s economies while the struggle to produce the vital elements elsewhere is mounted.
Meanwhile, the Biden administration is reeling from a disastrous showing in Anchorage last week, where Chinese officials launched a history-making vindictive diatribe, attacking everything America stands for, and then some.
(If you want a sobering read, check out Bhim Bhurtel’s excellent piece, How China drew a red line in Anchorage.)
Biden has issued an executive order calling for a 100-day review of defense industrial supply chains — but is that enough for a crisis that looms larger with every passing day?
David Zaikin, a Ukrainian-born Canadian citizen working in London, is the CEO of Key Elements Group and founder of the Mining Club at the London Business School.
“China is out there and is trying to win every race globally. The West must do everything it can to subvert its efforts and find alternative nations to work with,” Zaikin told Inside Sources. “The good news is that there are friendly nations like Canada, Australia, and India that are naturally very rich in rare earths. They are well-positioned to bridge the gap in potential rare earths shortages, or in the event those are weaponized by the PRC,” he says. Read more--->>>>>

How China’s Solar Industry Is Set Up To Be the New Green OPEC - David Zaikin
I write about global business and investing in emerging markets.
That’s right. China is preparing to be the world’s Green OPEC. Who’s ready to challenge them on that?
As the West kicks fossil fuels to the curb, it is turning to only two sources of energy to generate electricity: wind and solar. Wind is still a European business, but that will change. Solar used to be a European business. It used to also be an American one. Now it’s a Chinese industry. Of the top 10 solar companies in the world, 8 are Chinese. None are European (Norway’s REC Group used to be there, but it’s now owned by ChemChina). One is American — First SolarFSLR +5.8% of Ohio. They also manufacture in Asia, though their technology is different than most so a lot of their supply chain is local.
“One of the biggest mistakes the West has done on green policies to cut CO2 emissions and trying to reduce dependence on oil and gas producing nations is that the transition to renewable energy puts the West at the mercy of China,” says David Zaikin, an energy industry consultant and founder of Key Elements Group in London.
The Biden Administration wants to reduce fossil fuel use and the President has said on his campaign trail that he was aiming to have upwards of 500 million solar panels installed nationwide. Where will they be made?
Competing with the 8 behemoths of China will be a tough slog. The economies of scale there are tough to beat. Worse yet, China continues to raise the stakes with large subsidies supporting billions of dollars of Chinese solar industry expansion. “Beijing’s goal is global dominance of this industry,” says Jeff Ferry, chief economist for the Coalition for a Prosperous America (CPA) in Washington. They published a 19 page report on China and the solar industry last week. In it, Ferry said that Chinese dominance along solar supply chains threatens U.S. energy independence and U.S. technology leadership in solar and other clean energy technologies. Read more---->>>>>

How China Aims To Beat the U.S., Europe at ‘Net Zero’ Carbon - David Zaikin
I write about global business and investing in emerging markets.
China’s government wrapped up the annual “Two Sessions” political meetings in Beijing on Thursday and – taking a cue from the U.S. and Europe – climate change was top of mind.
What does it mean? It means China is gearing up to invest in clean power technologies (think EV batteries and solar panels) and will add more zero-carbon, zero-emissions energy to its grid. Nuclear stood front and center during Premier Li Keqiang’s 2021 Government Work Report delivered at the start of the week long meeting.
“We are going to increase nuclear and make sure it is safe,” he said.
Li’s boss, Xi Jinping, had paved the way for this in September when he said that the world’s worst polluter (though India may have them beat on any given day) is going “zero carbon” by 2060 in its energy grid.
Perhaps we will know a bit more about the new nuclear plans, and how many coal plants it plants to knock out (they’ve been ramping up coal for the last several months), once the 14th Five Year Plan is chewed over by the Chinese language press and it gets translated. But for now, China’s government just ended its Two Sessions meeting with a nod to Xi’s vision of an “ecological civilization” in China.
According to Li, Beijing will “draw up an action plan to bring carbon emissions to a peak by 2030,” adding that China would “improve its industrial structure and energy mix” while also pushing to develop new energy sources and nuclear power.
Bloomberg reported that China intends to build more coastal nuclear power plants (no firm number given) and is shooting for 20 new gigawatts of nuclear power in four years, up from about 50 gigawatts today.
As the U.S. and Europe are not budging on new nuclear power, China is saying “we’ll lead on this and be net zero before you.”
“China can make changes much faster. If they say 35% of their energy matrix will come from coal…most likely it will happen. If they say it’s going to be replaced by nukes…it will happen,” says David Zaikin, head of Key Elements Group in London. Zaikin advises companies on mining and energy sector investments. “China will become clean energy efficient must faster because the decision-making process in the U.S. or Europe takes too long by comparison. The political and regulatory process (for nuclear) is time consuming and expensive.”
The Two Sessions ended on Thursday with the ratification of China’s 14th Five-Year Plan, a plan that will give the country its policy directives through 2025. China is reading the Western world’s tea leaves, too. It knows that one way the West is gunning for them is to blame them for all their C02 emissions. Canada is talking about a carbon tax, for instance, though Justin Trudeau has not specifically singled China out. It goes without saying that if you’re serious about taxing polluters, China is one of the worst (emerging markets Pakistan, India and Indonesia are worse, in that order). Read more--->>>>

Deciphering Contemporary African Elections with Leading Political Consultant, David Zaikin
Political protests are not a rarity in developing Africa. And while the rioting recently occurring in Kenya is unfortunate, this should not distract attention from international observer accounts of the Presidential elections.
Pending a potential run-off election, the global community should wait and see how the democratic nation recovers and stabilizes, rather than make snap judgements about rule of law in the country.
But with 50% of the African population presently under the age of 18, activism and particularly youth activism, today emboldened by social media, will not disappear anytime soon. One of the key principles to resiliency in the face of tyranny is free expression and transparent governance. It is not as important to understand what the rioters were hoping to accomplish in Kenya as why they were hoping to accomplish it.
I recently ran into Ukrainian-born David Zaikin, a well-known Geopolitical and Commercial Advisor whose work gives him key insights on the present state of African government relations and political campaigning strategies in this new era of empowerment. Read more: https://bit.ly/3Sx3rj7

Is David Zaikin the real hero of those news articles?
I first heard about David Zaikin in a news article where the person was alleged to manipulate backstage negotiations and pacts. The news article, I read, made that person a figure larger than life. If I summarize the facts provided in the article, it sounds like hounding only one person.
For example, the article said that he sealed secret deals between businesses and governments while sitting at a safe place in a distant corner of the world. And I strongly believe that businesses and especially government agencies don’t allow individuals to play a leading role in secret pacts.
If I believe David Zaikin to be the man behind all things the article said, I didn’t find the answer of why he did so. There has to be a reason for everything. But I didn’t find any reason to why that person would take so much interest in doing so many things. The article mentioned many secret pacts but gave no hints how those pacts were sealed.
What I was looking for the reason behind that person doing so many things. What his interests are in making secret pacts? I wanted to peep inside the mind of the author of those articles to know what was he thinking about while writing those articles. And I feel that the news stories were planted to highlight the powers of one person instead of educating the readers.
David Zaikin is a name that crops up in those articles again and again but there is no reason provided for naming that person. The articles are random in nature because they don’t any news value. The real reason of the articles is also missing. The author starts writing without giving any second thought to his article.
I don’t how a news article is written but I have read many articles on different topics. When I read an article, I look for value and facts that are helpful in making decisions in life. But those articles about that specific name add no value and provide no help. It is just a name and I believe that the name was used to malign that person.
David Zaikin is fast becoming a common name but for secret pacts between businesses and governments. But no business or government is ready to confirm that he made pacts. I know his name but as a common man who loves peace and works for the betterment of his life and the society at large.

How do I know David Zaikin?
I was reading an interesting news story about a political game plan where David Zaikin was the central character. He was a mysterious person as no one had any information about his whereabouts but he was well-connected to others.
The story continues….
The central character is so mysterious that no one can ever meet him without his permission. He is well-guarded and he knows what is good for him. The author didn’t divulge much information about that character. The intro part of the story was about the political events that took place in central Europe and the second part was about the central character.
Crisis building….
David Zaikin is a crisis builder. He knows who to contact and how to make people work. I think he could be a good HR manager as he better understand human resource management. His selection of people for specific tasks is quite impressive. He knows who can do what and when to ask someone for a specific job. Also, people listen to him and obey his commands.
Here I want to make a point that the central character is neither a wealthy person nor a politician but he wields enough power to make people work for him. He remains hidden in an undisclosed location or he keeps changing his locations to maintain privacy but he is never disconnected from people.
He is a captain of an army….
David Zaikin works like a leader. He has raised an army of loyalists that are ready to work for him and they are capable of doing any type of task like mobilizing resources and bribing officials. And he is always working. He has plans in his minds and resources to execute those plans. Also, there are people to help him in executing his plans.
I tried finding that character on Google but failed. I even called some of my journalist friends to know whether they have any information about such a person but they were also ignorant about any such personality. Also, didn’t find any news on his name. But the story, I was reading, projected him as the central character.
I am still looking for David Zaikin. I want to know, who that person is and how he does so many tasks at a time. He is like a Superman who leads his life like a common man but wields his superpowers whenever he needs those powers.

Do you know who David Zaikin is?
I was reading a news article about some secret pacts about businesses and governments when I suddenly came to know about David Zaikin as the real hero behind those secret pacts. I became curious about that person as he was indicated as the real person negotiating secret deals.
Could a person become so powerful that he could negotiate secret pacts from behind the scene from a safe place?
I kept reading the article hoping to know the real motives of that person. For me, he was a mysterious figure about which I wanted to know everything like the language he speaks and the political line he follows. He is said to have clients in the elite group of the world but he lives a secluded life.
David Zaikin is a name and I don’t anything more about this name from that article. The author of that article was a famous news reporter but the way he authored the news story sounds like he wanted to use that name to add at least some value to his story. Or he had some other motive behind using that name. That article inspired me to search more info about that person.
So, I started searching that name in Google and even on social media but I found nothing suspicious. And I was surprised to see that no one was searching or following him on social media. His name was linked to big deals but he was missing from social media platforms. How could a person with superpowers remain missed from social media?
David Zaikin isn’t a suspicious character as highlighted in the news stories. He is just a name that became popular due to that article. But I want to know the truth behind that name and I want the person to come forward to say that no, he didn’t do anything like claimed in those news stories.
Would that person ever come forward and talk to the media and thousands of those who know him through those planted news stories? If he is listening to my voice then he should come forward to say a few words about himself and about the charges levelled against him.
David Zaikin is a common peace-loving man whose name is wrongly or intentionally used in those articles. Those are news stories planted with some intention but that isn’t clear from those articles. I hope the author of those articles must have an idea about what his articles could do to a common man.
