The Devil's Hour S02E05 - The Birth of a Tragedy

I don't know about anybody else but this moment made me tear up. In previous episodes, Isaac was fearful that Lucy wasn't going to come back and she had to reassure him that she would. At one point, she told him she would never leave him. But now he's having to reassure her that he understands why she has to leave and he's telling Lucy it's going to be okay.

And this proves Gideon wrong. He had told Lucy that because Isaac had never existed before that Isaac didn't have a soul and would never be able to love her.

At the end of the episode, I don't know if that was Lucy from a past loop or from a future loop. I'm guessing it was DI Chambers from a past loop given the somewhat casual rather than joyful tone when she says hello. Also, I suspect that Gideon won't save Sylvia (Lucy's mother) the next time round because he probably feels that he needs DI Chambers rather than single mom, ex-social worker Lucy. But I don't think that's the last we've seen of Isaac which is probably why they shot seasons 2 and 3 at the same time. Though I really really want season 3 NOW!

P.S. I have a strong suspicion as to who the murderer is which is why his movements are portrayed in such a distorted fashion. But the writing has been good enough that even when we've been set up to expect certain things to happen, there's still a punch to the gut when they do happen.

I'm thinking about au, where gideon is the twelfth after all. and of course, he went down that "dark justice" road after clara died.

and one day, when everyone in the house is asleep and lucy and gideon are alone in the kitchen with a almost empty bottle of bourbon, lucy asks him a question: "when I first brought my mum here, you said... you said you've burnt, you've drowned, you've bled to death or whatever"

he furrows his eyebrows in incomprehension and asks, "yeah, and? you wanna know what feels better?"

she laughs softly, not looking at him. avoiding his gaze. because, after all, she sometimes still finds herself afraid of him and not knowing what reaction to expect.

but curiosity and a hunger for truth have always won self-preservation in chambers' blood. maybe that's why she's a top-notch detective in the alternate loop.

"you also said you've loved" she began again cautiously, as if feeling the ground beneath her feet and expecting something. a shout. an outrage. a joke. a grunt. anything. but when she heard nothing in response, and the tension in the air grew more and more, she had neither the strength nor the courage to remain silent, so she continued: "who?"

of course, that question might seem silly. he had lived hundreds of lives. thousands and thousands of years. someone could love a great many different people in one lifetime. but gideon didn't strike her as a womanizer or someone who cared about such things. and it was all the more interesting to know what kind of person gideon shepard himself would look at with warmth and love.

and then he told her. to their mutual surprise. lucy was sure that he would drop the question and not discuss it. but either he had never been asked, or he had been asked in the wrong way, and once he began, it was impossible to stop.

he told her how long ago, before he had become "gideon", he had had a different life, a different name, and in that other life there had been an impossible girl, an ordinary high school teacher, clara oswald

he told lucy everything, perhaps, leaving a few details out of the conversation. he told her that he had tried repeatedly to save her in each of his loops but each time it had ended in the same disastrous outcome. and now he's fixing what's broken and doing what he thinks is right, without regard for morality. without hope, without witness, without reward. because he had learned all too well that the universe doesn't care.

Just finished season 2 of “the devils hour” this show got me fucked up. Like god damn

I watched season 1 “The Devil’s Hour” this September and yesterday I finished season 2. WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT? You can’t leave us with this cliffhanger. I loved the show, it’s so different and so unique. The idea of dying to be reborn again and again and again and one small change can effect all your life. That only Gideon remembers his previous lives.

While I watched season 1, I was so bored because the plot was so slow that I was considering stop watching but I said fuck it, they are only three episodes left, watch the rest to get some answers and it was the best decision.

Season 2 is a beast, couldn’t stop watching, the plot twists were huge. And the finale left us hanging
