one book that makes me sympathize so hard with the villain. It's been a good couple of months since I finished this book but these few images keep circling in my head.

'The Nine Eyes of Lucien' excerpts under the break

"Do you remember that fiend we fought outside of Berleben? Gods, but that thing had a stench. I thought it was going to feast on my entrails, and Brevyn couldn't get a clear shot, then you found us and got it to chase you just long enough for me to cast and bind it," she said, laughing, and wiped at her brow. "I think that was the day Brev fell for you."

He tried to access the memory, but all he could conjure were the blurry faces of a younger Cree and Brevyn, one on each side of him, haloed in the luminous shine of an enchanted swamp, a few scraggly trees behind offering shade. "Bloody good timing!" Cree had shrieked, and she and Brevyn kissed him on the face. His cheeks burned where the kisses had landed.

That's her. The charm. Do you remember? The circus, the lights, the way Yasha's rare smile just lights up the whole fucking night? I know you remember her. She's like your Brevyn, Circus Man. She and I might only have been friends, but I think you have a type.

The bright blast of a spell punched into his chest, a rain of blood and sparks exploding from the wound. Lucien pushed his hands into the opening, pulling against the flesh and bones, eager, at last, for the pain to stop. There was a flicker of laughter somewhere in the distance, and a smile he wanted to curl up inside of, and a promise of a long sleep at the end of a longer journey. This was the realm of dreams, after all, and anything was possible.

essek: If I had a a nickle for every time i fought beside a band of misfit adventurers fighting an evil being possessing the corpse of their dead friend in Aeor, turning said corpse into an eldritch being, I would have 2 nickles. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird it happened twice

Lucien being evil. I just wanted to draw his eyes, and imagined a whole illustration around it basically.

Lineless art scares me (but I'm being very brave ok).

I’m curious how the many deaths and resurrections of Lucien, Molly, and Kingsley are going to work in the animated series given how death and resurrection have played out in TLOVM. Some kind of nebulous “price” had been paid for each resurrection to date in TLOVM.

What price was paid (and by whom) for Molly to wake up in Lucien’s body? Is it going to be something like, since he was a shard of Lucien’s soul, the body never really died?

What about bringing Lucien back in the middle of C2? It’s conceivable that the Tombtakers or Somnovem would sacrifice something or someone to revive Lucien. (If we wanna be extra mean about it, RIP Jurrell.)

What about Kingsley? If he’s the combined soul, what was paid? It’d be a bit weird to work Lucien’s death as the sacrifice to revive his own healed soul. Also weird if it was Cognouza or the souls within it given that the ritual takes place after the fight. Maybe a deal worked out ahead of time with the Matron? But it’d be odd given that the Nein had basically no interaction with her.

I don’t have answers. I’m just chewing on the idea.

I find it very interesting that one of the first words/things that Molly say and seemingly remembers after he joins the circus is 'cat', specifically while looking at a black cat.

It may actually mean nothing but my first thought while reading the comic was that it was a memory vaguely resurfacing of Cree.

I've seen people say that it's a reference to Caleb and the Mighty Nein 'taking in strays' but it happens so early on in Molly's path to regaining a sense of self, essentially a time where he was closer to being Lucien than the Mollymauk we know and love that my immediate thought was that it was a vague memory of Cree. Especially since the Lucien novel tells us that Lucien and Cree were childhood friends. It would make some level of sense then that Molly would see a black cat and make a connection, even if he can't fully explain it. I may be completely wrong but I thought it was quite cool!

Fjord, Mollymauk/Lucien, Yasha and Jester's story arcs:

The Mighty Nein discover their friend is in a weird cult.

Not only that, their friend is an important chosen one/founder of the cult.

They travel with/follow the cult to a far away place.

There's a search where the Nein hide and/or search for something the cult is looking for.

Then they (at least offer to) fight a demigod to get their friend out of the cult.

Most of the cult is dispersed.

The coarse feeling of cheap paper beneath calloused fingertips, the deep scent of burning wood in the fireplace, the gentle light of the flame and the crackle which accompanied it; these were all senses which, when combined, Caleb Widogast would have normally associated with relaxation. The places where he truly felt at ease in were few - enough to count on one hand, perhaps – and this would lessen further if someone were to ask him where he felt like he belonged. Some of his answers were not even places, not really. Curled up in a bed alongside a purring Frumpkin, or at a breakfast table with the Mighty Nein – if you took away the people they were simply a place to sleep and a place to eat, and there is very little comfort to be found in spaces designed for basic functions he found difficulty completing on most days.  Libraries however were different. Libraries were real, tangible locations, and people would never be what brought him comfort in a library. He could spend days tucked away in the corner of a library, any library, with his nose buried in one book or another and would barely realise an hour had passed if he had the choice. Nothing felt better to him after a long, arduous day than nestling into an armchair next to a roaring fire in a library.

Tonight, it seemed, he would not be afforded that luxury.

Flops down on the ground. I started work on this before c2 ended,, and finally got around to completing it hehe! :3c

Not quite canon compliant, but takes place during episode 122 ( Nothing Ventured Nothing Gained ) of Critical Role Campaign 2, while the Tomb Takers are staying in the tower! This is like 60% an actual character/relationship study and 40% caleb/lucien Need To Fuck Each Other So Bad It's Not Even Funny.
