Evie Porter has everything a nice, Southern girl could want: a perfect, doting boyfriend, a house with a white picket fence and a garden, a fancy group of friends. The only catch: Evie Porter doesn't exist.

The identity comes first: Evie Porter. Once she's given a name and location by her mysterious boss Mr. Smith, she learns everything there is to know about the town and the people in it. Then the mark: Ryan Sumner. The last piece of the puzzle is the job.

Evie isn't privy to Mr. Smith's real identity, but she knows this job will be different. Ryan has gotten under her skin, and she's starting to envision a different sort of life for herself. But Evie can't make any mistakes - especially after what happened last time.

Because the one thing she's worked her entire life to keep clean, the one identity she could always go back to - her real identity - just walked right into this town. Evie Porter must stay one step ahead of her past while making sure there's still a future in front of her. The stakes couldn't be higher - but then, Evie has always like a challenge...

Evie Porter is moving in with her boyfriend, Ryan. A businessman from Louisiana with business dealing in Texas, she is excited to be making this domestic step in the right direction. But, Evie is hiding something. Including her real name.

Evie Porter is really Lucca Marino, originally from Eden, North Carolina. After the death of her mother to cancer when she was only 18 years old, Lucca began working for the mysterious Mr. Smith. After getting caught stealing credit card information at a serving job, Mr. Smith begins utilizing her skills and she begins taking on new identies in order to con her marks.

Ryan Sumner is her newest son. His business dealings in Texas are not legitimate, though the business is. It was worked by his father and grandfather before him, but after their untimely deaths, he took over. Ryan is blissfully unaware that Evie is working against him, and their daily lives continue. That is...until the death of his childhood friend James.

James was dating a woman who introduced herself as Lucca Marino. This prompts Evie to realize that Mr. Smith is testing her in ways that she never knew before. Since both James and the mysterious Lucca were at their home the night before, the police question them and return again the following morning, stating that Evie Porter has a warrant out for her arrest in connection with the death of a woman named Amy Holder in Atlanta PD.

Working closely with her friend Devon, who has helped her on every job she has worked since she began working, they begin the long trek to Atlanta. On the way, she stops to take advantage of the connections she has made during previous jobs. During all of this, Ryan is tagging along with her in support of what she has been going through, as well as Rachel, his childhood friend and the lawyer they hired to help protect Evie.

However, after hearing both Ryan and the man Evie knows as George talking in the hallway, Evie believes that Ryan is also working for Mr. Smith, and that he is working against her. But, the following morning, she finds evidence that George is actually the man that she has been looking for all this time...Mr. Smith. This is confirmed after Devon is finally able to confirm his identity and shares a picture with Evie.

After speaking to the police and informing them that the woman in the photos they believe to be her is actually Lucca Marino, which was the truth, though that identity was then given to a woman who has now been killed in an accident that was set up by Mr. Smith, Evie is now stuck with the identity she took when she accepted this job. Something she didn't originally want, but what she would do.

With the police satisfied, she attempts to leave the hotel where the interrogation took place, she is confronted by Mr. Smith. Still after the information that he believes Evie took for herself during the Amy Holder job, they go to the bank where she has a safety deposit box. But inside is just a white orgami swan. With this, Mr. Smith knows that he has been caught out.

Evie had the information, but she never brought it to the bank, and she has been working against him since a job a few years ago, where other members of the team that works for Mr. Smith were pitted against each other to steal a painting, and Evie was the only one who was successful. The other individuals were killed for failing the test. After this, she began working against Mr. Smith and it has taken roughly four years.

After attempting to leave the bank, Mr. Smith is confronted with the crime family in which he has stolen millions of dollars from, and has seemed to accept his fate. Evie travels to a cabin that isn't disclosed, and when she arrives, we learn that Amy Holder never died in the fire, and that she, Evie and Devon had been working together and she has been in hiding ever since. Amy's only family, a sister and niece, were also taken to safety as well as Devon falling in love with her, so nothing would ever happen to them.

Determiend to give up the life, Evie returns to Ryan to tell him the truth. It was true that Mr. Smith was pitting the two of them against each other, with the hope of stealing Ryan's trucking business in Texas. The two of them begin living in bliss once again. And...in a strange turn of events, Evie becomes the new Miss Smith.

Review: First Lie Wins by Ashley Elston

I feel like it has been a hot minute since I read a truly gripping psychological thriller but I used to read a lot of them. I'd already heard amazing things about this one including the fact that it's a new addition to Reese's Book Club picks, which I usually love. So, I was excited!

Evie Porter has the perfect life -a beautiful house in the suburbs, a loving boyfriend and a group of wealthy friends. But Evie Porter doesn't exist. She's actually an identity that has been given to Lucca Marino by her enigmatic boss Mr Smith on her latest assignment and her boyfriend Ryan is the target. She actually quite likes Ryan but she can't make any mistakes on this job -not after what happened last time. But a woman has arrived in town claiming to be Lucca Marino, her real self. So, what's actually going on?

Evie was a really interesting character to be in the head of. From the very first chapter, I was fully invested in discovering why she'd been watching and following Ryan before they got together. This was revealed really quickly but it didn't matter because the whole situation was so unique. I wanted to know more and more about Evie as the book progressed.

It was fascinating to watch Evie realise that Ryan was just a job to her. I had no idea how she'd deal with this dilemma but without it, I think I'd have struggled to see her as human. She is quite a methodical and cold character, so to see her show some tenderness towards her target was much needed.

We do get some glimpses of Evie's true past, when she was Lucca. She lost her beloved mother to cancer but she has used some of the lessons that her mother taught her. Evie's life has been pretty tragic and I understand that constantly changing her appearance and identity must give her so much freedom, even in the dangerous job that she's in.

First Lie Wins is an original, high-concept thriller that still manages to have a very human, emotional core. It wasn't exactly full of twists, which I think would have made me enjoy it more but I still read it very quickly. I can see it being adapted for screen very easily, as it is a classic cat and mouse situation that will have many readers captivated.

Ross Roys: un Capodanno a ritmo di elettronica allo Swamp by Studio 54 (Carrara)

Ross Roys, dopo aver superato le Live Audition della nuova edizione del Tour Music Fest - The European Music Contest, si è esibita nel Repubblica di San Marino, durante la finale di questa manifestazione, nella categoria DJ Producer... e continua a far ballare l'Italia con dj set dal ritmo decisamente elettronico. Il suo sound è come sempre sospeso tra techno e tech house. 

Ad esempio, il 31/12/23 per il Capodanno 2024 fa ballare con tanti altri dj il party Swamp by Studio 54 (Carrara, via del Bravo n. 1). Da mezzanotte e 15 fino alle 6 il ritmo non si ferma mai, con sonorità house, techno, hardstyle. Sul palco come vocalist Mr Adam, come dj invece con Ross Roys si alternano Marco May, Jimmy The Sound, Maldo, Matgroove, Rosario del Giudice, Lorenzo Salvemini.

Il traguardo raggiunto da Ross Roys, originaria della provincia di La Spezia, al Tour Music Fest - The European Music Contest, è davvero importante considerando gli oltre 20.000 tra artisti e band partecipanti provenienti da tutta Europa. "Non ho vinto, ma  sono contenta, è stata una gran bella esperienza", raccontato l'artista. "Ho ricevuto tanti complimenti e mi sono portata a un importante attestato di artista di alta qualità". 

Rosaria Giudice, al mixer Ross Roys, vive di ritmo. Ha iniziato a farlo in discoteca, come ballerina per mantenersi mentre studiava come medico veterinario. Ama gli animali e la natura alla follia, ma dopo la laurea l'amore per la musica è prevalso ed è diventata dj. Con il suo sound techno / tech house da tempo fa scatenare i club tra Toscana, Liguria e ovviamente pure a Ibiza. 

Vive a Luni, un piccolo paese in Provincia della Spezia e ha iniziato a suonare in un piccolo locale a Bocca di Magra. Poi pian piano ha iniziato a spostarsi di club in club: Fusion Club a Marina di Massa (MS), Supersonic Club a Lucca (dove ha diviso la console con leggende come Francesco Zappalà, Roland Brant e Roberto Francesconi), Mambo Studio, Hush e Decibel ad Ibiza… 

Tra le sue produzioni discografiche ci sono "Take" e Zwong", pubblicate da K-Noiz e "Waves" uscita su DVS Records. Il brano a fine novembre 2020 viene poi pubblicato in un nuovo remix curato da Luca Guerrieri. Ecco poi la sua label, Ross Roys Records, dove da tempo pubblica la sua musica.

Manuele Fior tinge di notte il manifesto del 33° Noir in Festival

Il Noir in Festival torna a Milano dal 1 al 7 dicembre 2023 con un programma poliedrico che attraversa secoli e generi, autori e visioni, finendo per specchiarsi nel cinema e nella letteratura contemporanei. Un’inquietudine di fondo risuona tra le pieghe della 33a edizione del festival, che trova il suo ideale baricentro a metà strada tra l’agitazione di un autore milanese doc come Andrea G. Pinketts, storico frequentatore del Noir scomparso esattamente cinque anni fa, e il manifesto malinconico e allo stesso tempo proiettato verso il futuro firmato da un maestro del fumetto nostrano, Manuele Fior.

Tra i più apprezzati artisti di graphic novel e illustratori, recentemente uscito in libreria con le graphic novel Celestia (Oblomov edizioni, 2019-2020) e Hypericon (Coconino Press, 2022), Fior ha all’attivo collaborazioni con i più importanti nomi dell’editoria italiana e internazionale: Coconino Press, Oblomov, La Repubblica, La Stampa, Internazionale, Einaudi, Feltrinelli, Mondadori, La nave di Teseo, Dargaud, Futuropolis, L’école des loisirs, Gallimard, Le Monde, The New Yorker, Dark Horse, etc. Negli anni la sua opera è stata premiata con alcuni tra i massimi riconoscimenti del settore: il Fauve d’or al festival di Angoulême, il Micheluzzi Award del Napoli Comicon, il Gran Guinigi e il Yellow Kid di Lucca Comics & Games e l’Inkpot award al San Diego Comic-Con. Sue, infatti, sono le recenti copertine dei romanzi editi da La Nave di Teseo di Giorgio Scerbanenco, autore al quale il festival intesta dal 1997 il premio per la miglior opera di narrativa italiana dell’anno di genere noir. Il segno magico e onirico di Fior, sospeso tra il blu notte di Eyes Wide Shut e le fascinazioni cyberpunk di Ghost in the Shell, ci trasporta nello scenario misterioso di una Piazza Duomo insolita e immersa nel silenzio, dove si aggira una figura enigmatica: un detective ? Un assassino? O il riflesso delle angosce di cui è portatore sano l’uomo contemporaneo?

Cesena, a Teatro Bonci "Il Teatro degli Animali".   Fuori programma in occasione del Carnevale al Teatro Bonci di Cesena, martedì 21 febbraio alle ore 17, nell’ambito della rassegna UN, DUE, TRE…TEATRO! che propone visioni adatte anche ai più piccoli, a partire dai 5 anni d’età: La Corelli presenta Il Carnevale degli Animali, una drammaturgia originale di Simone Marzocchi sulla pièce del compositore francese Camille Saint Saëns, divertente galleria musicale di 13 personaggi, ognuno dei quali ispirato ad un diverso animale. L’organico strumentale dell’Orchestra Arcangelo Corelli (diretta dal suo principale Direttore, il M° Jacopo Rivani), è formato da archi, pianoforte, flauto, clarinetto e percussioni; interprete è l’attore ravennate Marco Montanari. La musica di Saint-Saëns, di matrice classica, trova qui un apice di freschezza e originalità: composto come semplice divertimento in occasione di una festa tra amici musicisti, il Carnevale finì per diventare un cult della letteratura musicale carnevalesca, grazie al suo carattere brillante e ironico. Simone Marzocchi – attore, storico collaboratore del Teatro delle Albe, polistrumentista e prima tromba dell’Orchestra Arcangelo Corelli – aggiunge a questa carrellata di personaggi tradotti in musica la figura di una voce narrante: un uomo con capacità sovrumane che dice di essere un “mutaforme” e con l’utilizzo di materiale di risulta, come stoffe, plastica, scatoloni, tubi e molto altro, dà vita alle grottesche fattezze dei singoli animali. Pompeo Molmenti - Pia de' Tolomei Being Led to Maremma - 1853

Pia de' Tolomei was an Italian noblewoman from Siena.

According to a tradition recorded by early commentators on Dante's Divine Comedy, she can be identified as the 'Pia' mentioned in Canto V of Purgatory, where Dante and Virgil meet those were penitent at the time of their sudden violent deaths – her tale follows that of Bonconte da Montefeltro. She states that she came from Siena and was killed by her husband in the Maremma:

Do thou remember me who am the Pia; Siena made me, unmade me Maremma; He knoweth it, who had encircled first, Espousing me, my finger with his gem.

She refers bitterly to her murderer for his disregard of his marital vows to her and briefly tells Dante her story. She asks the poet – once he has rested from his long journey – to remember her among the living and thus speed her journey through Purgatory. Dante uses the name 'la Pia' not 'Pia', underlining the familiarity between them. She also asks him to pray for her since she knows none of her family do so.

The identification of this 'Pia' with Pia de' Tolomei is now almost universally accepted, although conclusive documentary proof of this has yet to be found. Early commentators on the poem noted that she was to be identified as a woman of the Tolomei family in Siena, wife of Nello dei Pannocchieschi, lord of Castel di Pietra in Maremma, podestà of Volterra and Lucca, captain of the Guelph Taglia from 1284 and alive until at least 1322 (the year he made his will). There is also a surviving record of his second marriage, as a widower, to Margherita Aldobrandeschi, countess of Sovana and Pitigliano. They had one son, Binduccio or Bindoccio, who was murdered, aged thirteen, when Orsini assassins, threw him down a well in Massa Marittima.

The surviving archives do not name Nello's first wife, but she has been identified as Pia. Nello owned Castel di Pietra in Maremma, where it has been suggested he murdered Pia in 1297, either after she found out he was having an affair with Aldobrandeschi or to clear the way for his second marriage. Among the early commentators, Jacopo della Lana, l'Ottimo and Francesco di Bartolo claim that she may have been killed for some crime, while Benvenuto and an anonymous Florentine of the 14th century assert it was due to her husband's jealousy.

Against this identification, the Tolomei family had no daughters or nieces named Pia in Nello's time. However, one male of the family did marry a woman named Pia Malavolti – the marriage did not last long (she had many lovers) and so the Tolomei decided to have Nello, the head of the family, remove her to Maremma, where she died in misery, possibly murdered. A closely related theory is that Pia was born a Malvoti and entered the Tolomei family by her marriage to Baldo d'Aldobrandino de' Tolomei. According to this story, Pia was accused of adultery by her husband, then kidnapped by Nello and taken to Maremma, where she died.

Pompeo Marino Molmenti (8 November 1819, Villanova in Motta di Livenza – 17 December 1894, Venice) was an Italian painter.

He was born in Friuli to Francesco Molmenti, an engineer of comfortable means, who had followed his older brother, Ettore, to Venice. When he was orphaned as a boy, Pompeo was cared for by his uncle Ettore, who encouraged his studies. In 1834, he was enrolled in the Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia to study under Ludovico Lipparini, Odorico Politi, and Michelangelo Grigoletti. As a student he painted a Murder of Caesar.

One of his early patrons was Count Spiridione Papadopoli (1799-1859) and his wife, Teresa Mosconi, who owned a villa in Villanova, not far from Molmenti's birthplace. As a young man, he had painted a Death of Othello for the Papadopoli family. A second version was completed in 1866. During 1835 to 1840, Molmenti painted a Madonna and child for a lunette at the private oratory of the Papadopolis, which recalled the Renaissance Madonna Giovanelli of Giovanni Bellini. He painted a Santa Teresa (now lost) for the countess, and a San Paolo (destroyed) for the church of San Polo di Piave.

From 1843 to 1844, he accompanied the Duke Saverio di Blancas on a trip through Syria and Greece. During this time he drew many Arab subjects, and painted The Departure of Tobias with Rachel from the House of Laban for his patron Count Papadopoli and Sara gives Agar as wife to Abraham. He then traveled to Florence, Rome, Paris, and Munich. During 1848-1849, he participated in some of the patriotic uprisings.

In 1850, he displayed three paintings: Cimabue discovers in Giotto the Genius of Painting (now lost), a Holy Family copied from the Raphael painting Madonna della seggiola, and a Virgin and child and a St Ursula for the church of Sant'Orsola of Conegliano, now displayed in the duomo. He painted an Immaculate Conception for Malo near Vicenza; a Martyrdom of Santa Filomena for Vidor; a San Rocco for a church of Palmanova; and Jesus gives the key to St Peter for Fontanelle.

In 1851, he became professor at the Academy of Fine Arts, Venice and worked alongside Pietro Selvatico to reform the institution. Among his pupils were Antonio Beni, Giacomo Favretto, Luigi Nono, Bressanesi, Luigi Pastega, Egisto Lancerotto, Tranquillo Cremona, Napoleone Nani, Silvio Rotta and Ettore Tito.[6] He was knighted for the Order of the Crown of Italy.

In 1853 he exhibited a painting on the subject of Pia de' Tolomei, commissioned by the architect Count Giacomo Franco [ and now in the Museo Civico di Castelvecchio. He also painted an Arrest of Filippo Calendario (1854) commissioned by Princess Giovanelli.

My most recent art project is finished! It took a lot of time but it was absolutely worth it. I put a sheet of printer paper in the 4th picture for size reference and also to demonstrate the size of the canvas I usually make these on compared to the size of the canvas I used for this one.

This piece also comes with a great story! Just this summer I studied art history abroad in Italy, and this is my final project. I took designs from art and architecture in each of the cities I visited and worked them into the drawing like a timeline, starting at the center and going outward. In order, you can see patterns from Volterra, Pisa, Florence, Rimini, San Marino, Rome, Pompeii, Lucca, Siena, and Venice.

ROSS ROYS: dopo la finale al Tour Music Fest, la musica continua… Ed il 7/12 fa ballare con Sandro Vibot il Paradiso - Altopascio (Lucca)

Ross Roys, dopo aver superato le Live Audition della nuova edizione del Tour Music Fest - The European Music Contest, si è esibita nel Repubblica di San Marino, durante la finale di questa manifestazione, nella categoria DJ Producer. Il traguardo raggiunto da Ross Roys, originaria della provincia di La Spezia, è davvero importante considerando gli oltre 20.000 tra artisti e band partecipanti provenienti da tutta Europa. "Non ho vinto, ma  sono contenta, è stata una gran bella esperienza", raccontato l'artista. "Ho ricevuto tanti complimenti e mi sono portata a un importante attestato di artista di alta qualità". Il viaggio di questa artista sempre sospesa tra techno e tech house continua. Ad esempio, il 7 dicembre è in console con Sandro Vibot ed altri dj di ottimo livello al Paradiso (ex Papiro) ad Altopascio (Lucca, via Lucchese Romana), in un party organizzato da Bay Staff.

Rosaria Giudice, al mixer Ross Roys, vive di ritmo. Ha iniziato a farlo in discoteca, come ballerina per mantenersi mentre studiava come medico veterinario. Ama gli animali e la natura alla follia, ma dopo la laurea l'amore per la musica è prevalso ed è diventata dj. Con il suo sound techno / tech house da tempo fa scatenare i club tra Toscana, Liguria e ovviamente pure a Ibiza. 

Vive a Luni, un piccolo paese in Provincia della Spezia e ha iniziato a suonare in un piccolo locale a Bocca di Magra. Poi pian piano ha iniziato a spostarsi di club in club: Fusion Club a Marina di Massa (MS), Supersonic Club a Lucca (dove ha diviso la console con leggende come Francesco Zappalà, Roland Brant e Roberto Francesconi), Mambo Studio, Hush e Decibel ad Ibiza… 

Tra le sue produzioni discografiche ci sono "Take" e Zwong", pubblicate da K-Noiz e "Waves" uscita su DVS Records. Il brano a fine novembre 2020 viene poi pubblicato in un nuovo remix curato da Luca Guerrieri. Ecco poi la sua label, Ross Roys Records, dove da tempo pubblica la sua musica.

Ross Roys: un Capodanno a ritmo di elettronica allo Swamp by Studio 54 (Carrara)

Ross Roys, dopo aver superato le Live Audition della nuova edizione del Tour Music Fest - The European Music Contest, si è esibita nel Repubblica di San Marino, durante la finale di questa manifestazione, nella categoria DJ Producer... e continua a far ballare l'Italia con dj set dal ritmo decisamente elettronico. Il suo sound è come sempre sospeso tra techno e tech house. 

Ad esempio, il 31/12/23 per il Capodanno 2024 fa ballare con tanti altri dj il party Swamp by Studio 54 (Carrara, via del Bravo n. 1). Da mezzanotte e 15 fino alle 6 il ritmo non si ferma mai, con sonorità house, techno, hardstyle. Sul palco come vocalist Mr Adam, come dj invece con Ross Roys si alternano Marco May, Jimmy The Sound, Maldo, Matgroove, Rosario del Giudice, Lorenzo Salvemini.

Il traguardo raggiunto da Ross Roys, originaria della provincia di La Spezia, al Tour Music Fest - The European Music Contest, è davvero importante considerando gli oltre 20.000 tra artisti e band partecipanti provenienti da tutta Europa. Etymology

There are two theories about the country’s name. One suggests that it derives from an Ancient Greek term for the land of the Italoi tribe. The other one proposes that it comes from the name of local ruler Italus.

Geography

Italy is located in Southern Europe and borders Switzerland and Austria to the north, Slovenia to the northeast, the Mediterranean Sea to the east, south, and west, France to the northwest, and the enclaves of San Marino and Vatican City.

There are five main climates: tundra and warm-summer humid continental in the north, subtropical highland in the north and center, humid subtropical in the north and east, and hot-summer Mediterranean in the south and west. Economy

Italy mainly imports from Germany, China, and France and exports to Germany, the United States, and France. Its top exports are wine, cheese, and pasta.

It has gas, marble, and pumice reserves. Services represent 73.9% of the GDP, followed by industry (23.9%) and agriculture (2.1%).

Italy is a member of the Council of Europe, the European Union, the G7, the G20, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, and the Union for the Mediterranean.

Demographics

91% of the population is ethnic Italian. The main religion is Christianity, practiced by 84% of the population, 73.9% of which is Catholic.

It has a positive net migration rate and a fertility rate of 1.2 children per woman. 71% of the population lives in urban areas. Life expectancy is 82 years and the median age is 46.5 years. The literacy rate is 99.2%.

Languages

The official language of the country is Italian. Albanian, Catalan, Croatian, Franco-Provençal, French, Friulian, German, Greek, Ladin, Occitan, Sardinian, and Slovene are recognized as historical minority languages.

Culture

Italy is known for its art, classical music, cuisine, and fashion. Italians are extroverted and warm and gesticulate a lot.

Men traditionally wear a white shirt, a vest, a jacket, white pants (ragas), and a hat. Women wear a white puff-sleeved blouse, a corset, an embroidered skirt, and a veil.

Architecture

Traditional houses in Italy have stone walls, tiled roofs, and balconies.

Cuisine

The Italian diet is based on fish, meat, pasta, and vegetables. Typical dishes include minestrone (a soup with beans, pasta, and vegetables), ossobuco (veal shanks braised with broth and vegetables), panna cotta (a pudding-like dessert made of cream, gelatin, and sugar), parmigiana di melanzane (layered eggplant with cheese and tomato sauce), and spaghetti alla puttanesca (spaghetti with anchovies, capers, olives, and tomatoes).

Holidays and festivals

Like other Christian countries, Italy celebrates Epiphany, Easter Sunday, Easter Monday, Assumption Day, All Saints’ Day, Immaculate Conception, Christmas Day, and Saint Stephen’s Day. It also commemorates New Year’s Day and Labor Day.

Specific Italian holidays include Liberation Day on April 25 and Republic Day on June 2.
