I need my Rook to wake up sandwiched between Lucanis and Spite. Give me that nasty demon fade threesome, fucking me stupid over the bloody corpses of our enemies.

SO, after finishing another playthrough (shut up) I am FIRM in what I believe. Which is the following:

Spite fuckin falls first, Lucanis falls harder. Spite ADORES Rook, even outside of a romance. He doesn't even show this preference for Neve (i'm vindictive and this makes me smile. Neve is my least favourite- I DONT HATE HER, LEGIT, ADORE HER, JUST OUT OF ALL OF THEM, SHE'S AT THE BOTTOM. IM SORRY BABY). Spite even fuckin says he LOVES Rook if they focus on punishing Illario. (Don't even get me started on Illario holY SHIT "you picked the wrong dellamorte" brother you have a string of failed romances, sees his cousin in his FIRST relationship and starts scream crying. im so mad he's hot). Solas offers to separate Lucanis and Spite? Lucanis tells him to fuck off WHILE SPITE YELLS THAT HE HURT ROOK. Spite adores Rook and its PLAIN to see, even hurting Lucanis because he wants to talk to Rook. Also he's a bitch to everyone when possessing Lucanis and trying to waddle out, except to Rook, he's fuckin purring and wanting scritches. He shows how much he likes Rook in like... The second interaction with Spite? Even when flatly telling Lucanis that you will kill him if he gets to rowdy? Spite moans and says "Watch about for them I WANNA TALK TO THEM, ROOK TIME"

This is a poly relationship. Brother, that's just semi canon. Fucker, HE'S THERE ON YOUR DATES, NIFFIN HIM COFFEE. He giddily gazing at Rook as Lucanis says he loves you and then sticks his nose into the coffee. Lucanis is his and ROOK IS HIS FAVOURITE, THESE ARE LINES HE FLAT OUT SAYS. Hawke fuckin joked that Justice makes sex with Anders a threesome, and that blond twink frowns at you, i feel like Lucanis would just "yeaaah.... yeah." Mostly because he FULLY admits that he can't control the wings. Those are all Spite. THEN, DURING THEIR INTIMATE SCENE, THEYRE BURSTING OUT. spITE IS ACTIVELY IN THE SEX SCENE. Brother, Spite openly says that when Neve and Lucanis are together, he is mentally OUT of there. Not interested. Plays with the Wisps. Rook and Lucanis? Brother he's activating wings and bouncing around and giggling.

I like that he fuckin SNIFFS people, like Taash. I'm sorry, there should be 20 more horny lines from him, talking about how Rook smells. Everyone would be horrified constantly (Emmerich would be SCANDALIZED, Taash goes "lol same").

IN FACT, WAIT, BACK TO SPITE IN ROMANCE SCENES- ITS IMPLIED HE'S ACTIVE IN ALL OF THEM. When Lucanis and Rook first attempt a kiss, brother is GOING IN, and then, starts, pulls back, swears and fucks off. Brother, Spite said something. It was RIGHT after a possession too. Fuck, if Rook visits Lucanis randomly in his hidey hole pantry? "Spite, could you not.... Mierda." BROTHER?? HE IS HERE. I love Spite so much, he's like a grumpy cat that has TWO favourite people, a skeleton boy he likes to paw at and a well meaning uncle he can vent to (Emmerich. God I love Emmerich).

I like that he's Lucanis but just... Purple. That's my brand babey.

Anyway, yeah no, Spite would want to get fucky with both of them and Bioware remains COWARDS for not letting us.

actually no im gonna yap

im trying SO HARD to gaslight myself into liking veilguard but so many narrative choices just make me scratch my head. I AM NOT DONE, I currently gotta go to Weisshaupt.

I'll start with things I like so far:

1. I think the game is really pretty and I like the puzzles :) Antiva is GORGEOUS, I think one of the prettiest areas in the entire series.

2. I really like the Minrathous/Treviso choice. More of that please! some actual drama and consequence!

3. Assan is adorable and I cannot walk past without petting him. I didn't anticipate myself liking Davrin so much since I'm usually drawn to magic babies over warriors, but he's probably my favourite alongside Bellara. I think him having left his clan is very interesting narrative choice (I am totally not biased considering it's very similar to Daee's story)

4. Thank you lord almighty for the wardrobe/mirror system. Godbless.

5. Everytime Lucanis speaks I think of Puss in Boots and that brings me great joy. Whimsy even.

6. When you place Tevinter decor in the lighthouse, they have a Hookah right beside a fresco of Solas killing Mythal and that is mind bogglingly hilarious. I do love that the Shadow dragons know how to unwind. We're turning up after fighting for elf rights.

7. Solas surviving entirely on meat, raisins and honey feels very r/malelivingspace

Things I am Not Liking So Far

1.Minrathous feels utterly toothless. Its described as terrible, den of slavery, conversion therapy through blood magic, treatment of elves being terrible - yet we walk around unimpeded. I expected a similar experience as the Winter Palace, or fights that could be avoided if playing as a human.

LAVELLAN is introduced in the TEVINTER TAVERN, wearing TEVINTER CLOTHING, like it doesn't...make much sense to me? Inquisition set up the cross roads with Morrigan AND the Inquisitior, it feels like it would have made much more sense narratively not just from..."I am the fucking Inquisitor In Fucking Minrathous" but "Solas and the crossroads are a vital connecting point of these characters story."

Speaking of Inquisitor, wildly bizarre to me that neither Solas nor Varric comment on you meeting them. Solas has a weird painting of the Inquisitor chair, but you meet the mf face to face and he just does't acknowledge it. I am not a Solavellan player but I felt Really Bad For Them In That Moment.

I think a good moment of comparison is the difference in tone of DAI and DATV...When we find out the orb is elven in DAI, Solas warns us to keep it to ourselves, with Lavellan even remaking that the world will blame us for Corypheus. In DATV, we inform everyone that Elven gods are attacking, and there's no thought or conversation about the impacts of that on Elves in society. The only one to mention it is Davrin way after we've been spilling the beans left and right.

2. I'm not done the story but hey has anyone mentioned we haven't fought a single Fen'Harel agent, what's up with that... I expected to be fighting Elves based on the epilogue in Tresspasser but ?? ???

3. I'm sorry I HATE THEM DISREGARDING THE WELL OF SORROWS IN FAVOUR OF MORRIGAN WHEN SOLAS MAKES A HUGE DEAL OF YOU BEING TIED TO MYTHAL IF YOU DRANK FROM THE WELL. Oh sorry, if it was unimportant then why the fuck did you go on a monologue about how you're "her creature" and connected to her. It felt like a retcon of the importance placed on it in Inquisition and how much of a deal both Solas AND Morrigan make about it. I'm sorry picking a ROMANCE was more important than acknowledging THIS?? ? ??

"But Ravie, they can't account for Inquisitors personality and making them important would piss people off" then just kill them off. If they're set on Morrigan carrying this piece of narrative, I would have written the Inquisitor off the table before the choice becomes relevant. Have them help you in the ritual at the start of the game and die. I feel similarly about Varric, because he feels like the writers stuffed him in the closet to not talk which just...JUST KILL HIM. Its better than being relegated to furniture!!!!

3. Speaking of Morrigan why the hell is so nice. This is not my beautiful mean witch wife. In fact everyone is nice. Even hardened Lucanis has been polite to me.

4. I HAVE A BONE TO PICK WITH ROOK. I profoundly hate starting off friends with Varric (and him getting shelved like what was the point). It ruins a lot of initial RP for character establishment, because it limits how the player character FEELs about the whole thing, your motivations are GIVEN to you. Furthermore, it feels like rook HAS an established character. I don't feel like I got to play my rook, just say things slightly differently based on an already established character. I dont feel like I am roleplaying a custom character, just as Biowares stand in protagonist. Maybe I'm just spoiled by the level of interaction that BG3 provided me.

The opening sequence is bizarre to me, because IF I MAKING THE STORY....I would have had the introductory quests for each of the companions be the first quest based on the faction you select (Shadow dragons with Neve, Mournwatch with Emmerich, Crows with Lucanis etc. etc.) That way you establish your character based on the faction and immediately get a little tutorial on what kind of character you're going to be playing. I would even keep the introductory quests the same with minor dialogue tweaks. The ritual would come after the tutorial prologue mission and then you start with Harding and the companion you got introduced with, since the order you get them...really doesn't matter or impact anything.

5. I think the Venatori and Antaam following Elven Mage Gods is kinda dumb. Sorry. I thought they both looked down on them for being either Elves or Mages/didn't even acknowledge them. What the hell is their goal anyway

My criticisms comes down to...I don't know what themes the game is trying to tackle? The game SAYS things but doesn't actually do anything with these topics. Minrathous HAS a slavery problem but we don't see it. Treviso is ruled by a faction of assassins but it's like a good thing! Elven gods are responsible for everything wrong in the world, but the narrative implications of what that means for modern elves are acknowledged in passing like acknowledging the weather. The game feels hesitant to actually unpack any of these things despite being the one to put them on the table.

Anyway I am going to finish the game and probably play on Daee with a Solavellan Inquisitor to see if that improves my experience by picking a character who is more tailored to the Rook they portray/not having an emotional connection to the Inky, but atm...Man I Had Hopes. Made me feel stupid for getting so hyped up for a conclusion to a story arc for a character THEY SPECIFICALLY LEFT ON A CLIFFHANGER FOR A DECADE. I'll just draw art, lie face down in the ground and imagine a more narratively satisfying conclusion to my Inquisitors story.

Tbh, i just realized how fucked up I am for finding Lucanis hot in that scene where he was trying to stop spite from killing illario. In my defense, i love men in pain and/or being pathetic so that got tk me first when I saw that scene but then when I managed to calm myself down (which took me a week and more) i realized how fucking painful that scene is.

In order for spite to be in control, lucanis needs to he asleep thats why he does his absolute best to be awake and during that time for sure it would be a huge trigger for lucanis to lose consciousness as spite was really pulling the reigns here but lucanis was doing his best, to not let spite take the control and thats more fucked up that its his own cousin who put him in that misery.

feel free to ask questions or clarifications! this might not be in proper order so there's bound to be some confusion. also Urchin is trans, so. keep that in mind

warning: English is still not my first language, so please point out any mistakes, i'd really appreciate it. constructive criticism is welcome!

Her knife clatters onto the ground with a cling. Metal on stone, it bounces two times before landing on its side.

Urchin flinches. Her arms frozen in place, still gripping a shadow of a knife. She dares not move. Her body starts burning, the staring of a sparring dummy singing her skin. The dummy laughs at her poor technique. Isabela said that she had to defend herself, now that she’s a Lord of Fortune, to stop anyone from hurting her again.

And she wants to. Urchin’s hands tremble, tears gathering at the edges of her vision. The world becomes very blurry, bile rising to her throat. Isabela will kick her out into the street now. She’ll be forced to run her whole life, until eventually she’ll be back in that ship, working until her hands turn raw and bloody.

A flinch, a hand on her shoulder. It’s radiating warmth, but Urchin doesn’t believe it. “Oh, no, kitten, it’s okay. It’s your first day, love, I don’t expect you to do it right away.”

Urchin sniffles. Her knees threaten to buckle under her.

She’s going to get hurt again. Lightning will bounce around the room, a cackle of its source. “At least you’ll know what magic feels like,” the cackle said.

“Urchin, look at me, sweetheart,” Isabela’s voice rings louder than her jailer. She tries to feel her body again and look at Isabela. Through her stained eyes, Isabela’s unusual colour palette comes first, and she smells the sea. “Now, lift your pretty little eyes at me, will you? They’re beautiful — I just have to see them.” No one has ever said her eyes were pretty. No one said she was anything at all. Simply a tool to them. Easy to break, and to be replaced if useless.

But Isabela doesn’t see her like that.

Urchin blinks once, twice, letting her tears out of their cages, her nose running like a river. Isabela is smiling. Her smile so tender it makes the girl's tears heavier and uncontainable. Isabela’s eyes are full of care and affection Urchin doesn’t know what to do with. She doesn’t deserve them.

Isabela giggles. “There you are. Aren’t you just the prettiest pearl of the sea?” she gives compliments like it’s nothing to her, like it’s as easy as breathing. She’s lying, then. “Now, come on, baby, what’s wrong? Just because you dropped it now doesn’t mean you’ll drop it next time.”

Urchin hiccups through her answer. She knows she has to give one, even if it brings her pain, because disobedience is unforgivable. She doesn’t want to be in pain anymore, it’s why she picked up the knife in the first place. “B-because I messed up, and it was so-so loud, and I didn’t mean to drop it, I’m sorry mistress, I’m sorry, I’m—”

“Hey, hey, it’s okay, Urchin, you don’t have to apologize,” Isabela’s hand rises and Urchin prepares for a slap, but a palm cups her cheek, and Isabela’s gentle finger rubs tears off her face. “I’m sorry to put you through this so soon, I know it’s hard. But I know you can do this. We gotta make you stand up for yourself, and show those bastards how it’s done. You’re such a strong kid, you went through so much, and I can show you how to defend yourself against anyone who would want to do that to you again. You understand?”

She thinks she does. She doesn’t want to cower anymore. She needs to stop pain from happening. She doesn’t want to get punished again. Ever.

Urchin nods, and sniffs.

“Good,” Isabela smiles again, and takes her by the shoulders, almost in a hug. “I’ll get you a handkerchief, and we’ll try again. I’ll guide you the whole way. And then we’ll eat something nice. Doesn’t that sound good?”

Urchin nods again. Isabela rubs her shoulders before running into another room, and her body feels so cold without her touch. Urchin brings her arms around herself, like she would do when she went to sleep.

But it’s not as cold as she thought it would be, and the promise of food excites her. Maybe she won’t cry this time. She just has to try. For Isabela.

I loved Teia and Viago’s body language in the one scene I saw, very much couples communicating through pointed looks. The facial animations overall are great and I can see the difference with the mocap.

the spite thing is hot. Let’s get that out of the way. However Neve and Lucanis are very flirty and I love companion romances so idk idk. Haven’t met the old man yet.

Overall loving the level design, especially the crossroads… is anyone not playing an elf and know if they kept it grey for everyone else? All the nooks and crannies are great fun to explore.

1). neve girly im SORRY lmao i put you through HELL this playthrough. but i saved ur city so, ur welcome. I fully picked minrathous bc i wanted to lock myself out of lucanis' romance so i wasn't tempted lol

2). before i had seen any spoilers or even played the game, i decided i wanted to romance davrin. then i started really loving lace, so i decided to make ivelle date both of them. imagine my surprise :) when i have to pick one of them :) to die :) what the fuck ! :) anyways she's not rly dead she's gonna come back don't wanna hear it

3). my (loose) backstory for ivelle is she grew up in minrathous and was close with neve. they'd had a fwb deal for a while before deciding to just be friends. they're still each other's closest companion and they trust one another with their lives (maybe neve shld stop considering the choices made this playthrough.....)

4). bellara and ivelle are besties too tehe. bel and vel forever ♥

5). ivelle is super sarcastic, loves to joke, has a hard time being serious UNLESS it's involving the wardens or helping someone. but she still might throw a few jabs or punches

6). i feel good abt all of my companion quest choices. - she wouldn't want bellara to obsess over the archive or it end up in the wrong hands and bel blames herself, so she suggested destroying it. - as much as she loves the wardens, the horrors they found... it's made her want to take a step back and uncover all the other shit they've been hiding. maybe, in the future, they can revisit the griffons rejoining but... for a lot of people, joining the wardens isn't a choice. the griffons don't deserve that treatment. - manfred................ sorry he can't die. fuck being a lich baby ! - OFC she's convincing lace to go with courage, not anger!! - i think 9/10 times i, the player, would tell neve to go with justice. but ivelle knows how much she's been through, the toll it's taken on her. justice is nice but... hope? hope is priceless. anyone can throw a sword in someone's hand and say fight for good, but select few can inspire people with hope and make them want to fight for good. neve can do that, ivelle knows it. - lucanis was hardened so no choice 4 me lol - taash's was hardest bc ivelle doesn't know a ton about the qunari and she didn't want to be so quick to say leave it behind. but she knows they're a forward thinker and felt embracing their rivaini culture would be best.
