A few things which are “canon” somewhere for people who are worried they’re stretching it too far
Arthur was killed by a giant cat.
Arthur killed the cat.
Arthur didn’t fight the cat. Kay did.
Kay and Bedivere use salmon as taxis.
Lucan is half giant, half lion. (This Lucan, Lucano in the original Italian, is evil and not related to Bedivere).
King Arthur raided the land of the dead.
The human knight Caradoc Briefbras has three half siblings: a dog, a horse, and a pig.
A large portion of Arthur’s troops was killed a while before Camlann by his nephew’s attack ravens in self-defense. Arthur and said nephew were playing chess at the time and neither did much to stop it.
Merlin retired peacefully and went to live in the countryside with Taliesin.
Wherever Arthur walks, plants die. They don’t grow back for years.
Arthur had a spunky (half?) brother who died in battle after making a mysterious oath.
Dagonet is more or less able to run the kingdom when Arthur is gone. His biggest error is overspending on mercenaries.
Guinevere has an evil almost identical twin half-sister.
Hector beat up all the best knights except for Galahad while possessed by a demon.
Gawain plays tennis.
Gawain has used a chessboard as a weapon.
Near the start of his reign, Arthur left Lot in charge of the kingdom and went on a quest with a sassy parrot.
Gawain or Galahad succeeded Arthur as king.

So Lucan is a little pathetic Milo Thatch type human dude who has the ability to teleport in and out of the Emerald Dream (but he can't do it on command). He just constantly is getting manhandled by Broll and Tyrande as they drag him around this book lmao.
#yes i used the alex jones running meme it kills me#warcraft#stormrage#tyrande#lucan#broll#a book can be both genuinely good and genuinely bad at the same time

the thing about the Pharsalia is that it's a poem that postulates from the outset that the world is ruined and it's not ruined in any glorious way or by the conflicts of gods and demigods, just an autocrat's greed and ambition and the failure of all the people who might have stopped it when there was still time. and everything has already been decided at Pharsalus and there's nothing to do now but watch the world enact that same battle again and again and again with the exact same outcome. it's as if the "who killed the world?" arc words from Mad Max are playing on repeat and the poem's answer is that you did, and you did, and you did, but also you individually never could have done anything. and it's a pessimistic worldview to be sure but there's a cold kind of comfort in it at times like these.
(credit to John Henderson's 1987 essay "Lucan: The Word at War" here for his thesis that the poem implicates you)
#lucan#there'll be a more hopeful tone on this blog tomorrow i hope. but sometimes it helps to stare into the darkness and lucan is good for that

Phemonoe, the Pythian priestess on why the Delphic oracle has grown silent:
"...or perhaps Apollo, determined to exclude the guilty from his shrine finds none in this age worthy of opening his closed lips."
- Lucan, Pharsalia (Trans. A. S. Kline)
...
Internal screaming
#Apollo#Phemonoe#Pythia#guys this has changed something in me#Gods not interacting with the humans anymore in this age because of the corrupt nature of humanity#is something that's common in my religion too#(well the myths of my religion to be specific)#not that I'm too religious#but it's cool to see similar concepts in Greek mythology and Hindu mythology#especially since they're often quite different from each other conceptually#Apollo info#mine#Lucan

✨ for all of the newcomers, welcome! in case you're interested, here's a quick list of all the fics i've written recently :) ✨
rookanis fics
two crows, one dagger - after lucanis gifts rook de riva a dagger, they spar, and he learns the sentimental meaning behind its new name
a lesson in electricity - this time, lucanis spars with mage!rook who is distrustful of him due to his reputation. they find common ground & flirt, ofc
by blood & thread - a longer one than the first two; lucanis stitches up crow!rook after a near-fatal battle. (suuuper angsty. takes place directly after ‘blood of arlathan')
poison vials & morning coffee - a short drabble/mini-fic about lucanis expressing his love for crow!rook (pronoun neutral) through acts of service and gift-giving!
solrook fics
how far thou art fallen from heaven - an on-going multi-chapter fic; when rook first ends up in the regret-prison with solas after a nightmare, he taunts her, and she responds in kind. one way or another, solas is going to realize: varric chose rook to stop him for a reason. what he isn’t prepared for is how his enemy makes him feel. has the dread wolf finally found someone to abandon his plight for? (spoiler alert: the answer is no.) a true enemies to lovers tale.
solavellan fics
what we leave behind - lavellan’s world first unravels when solas reveals the truth about her vallaslin. it’s been ten years, and still, she runs to him when the skies tear open again. bare-faced and broken, she pursues the one person she can’t stop loving, even as he destroys her. (angsty as hell, with a side of cosmic heartbreak. there is no happy ending here.)
✨so, yeah! follow if you're looking for more! :) ✨

FINISHED THE LINEUP i can die now. ok not really now i have a comic to make
PLEASE click and zoom in! this canvas is almost 6000 px long the quality is awful from afar
separates and my rambling under the cut
i started this in late march while also making a different oc lineup and worked on and off on this one for 3 months. good lord. the artstyle is simplified to how i will most likely be drawing them in the comic so i dont go insane from the details. as long as it doesnt change again like it did here. my bestie said everyone here looks like theyre drawn by a different person IDK WHAT HAPPENED curse of my artstyle.
also info for new people here [hi] everyone here is my version of historical figures aside from felix he is a full on original character. its an alternative timeline where britannicus lives and both he and nero are co-emperors

Latin Literature Tournament - Round 1
Propaganda under the cut!
Ennius Propaganda:
The man who started it all... wrote the first Latin epic in dactylic hexameter (fuck Saturnians, all my homies hate Saturnians)
Among his many contributions, wrote a minor didactic work on where to find good fish
Was buddies with Scipio Africanus
Lucan Propaganda
Really said "what if the Aeneid was more fucked up" and honestly, respect
Every line of the Bellum Civile goes So Fucking Hard. The most metal piece of poetry out there
It's got something for everyone: witches, necromancy, archaeology, blood and guts, aristeia, ghost messengers, siege warfare, dubious protagonists, Ptolemies...

"There exist only 2 full translations of the "Pharsalia" in the polish language: [authors' names] (published in) 1690 and 1691; both are awful. [...]"
#these two are available online. but also theyre from fucking xvii century in xvii century polish#lucan#ancient rome
