Movie Review ~ French Girl

I love the way Picard supports Data's creative development. Data played Mozart in a quartet, and Picard was unable to attend, but later Data entered the ready room, and Picard was listening to the recording of Data playing.

He immediately compliments Data on his performance, and on the amount of emotion in it. When Data tries to write off the compliment by saying that he simply perfectly replicated the styles of others, Picard points out that Data chose the people he was replicating, and combined their styles to create something uniquely Data.

In another episode we have Picard introducing Data to performing Shakespeare, and encouraging Data not to research how others have performed it, and instead focus on making it his own.

All of this is to say Data and Picard are good friends, and we regularly see them being good friends, and I love that.
