The LRTA is resolute in shaping the way for the next phase of their remarkable journey.
The Genesis of the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA)
Addressing Metro Manila's Transportation Challenges The establishment of the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) in 1980 marked a pivotal moment in the transportation history of the Philippines. As the first-ever light rail system in Southeast Asia, it was envisioned to address the growing transportation challenges faced by the bustling Metro Manila and nearby regions. The LRTA was created through Executive Order No. 603, signed by then-President Ferdinand Marcos, to provide a more efficient, rapid, and modern mode of public transportation.   Revolutionizing Metro Manila's Travel From its inception, the LRTA set out to revolutionize the way people traveled within the metro, offering a reliable alternative to congested roadways. The initial phase of the LRTA, known as the LRT Line 1, commenced operations in 1984, connecting Baclaran in Pasay City to Monumento in Caloocan City. It quickly gained popularity among commuters for its convenience and speed, making it a crucial transportation link for millions of passengers.
Milestones in Expansion and Modernization
Meeting the Demands of a Growing Urban Population Throughout its history, the LRTA has undergone significant expansion and modernization efforts to meet the demands of a growing urban population. Over the years, the LRTA has added new lines, extended existing ones, and enhanced its facilities to cater to the needs of millions of commuters. The completion of the LRT Line 2, formerly known as the Light Rail Transit System (LRTS), in 2003 further solidified the LRTA's role in providing efficient transportation within the metropolis. Additionally, this milestone marked a significant advancement in the LRTA's mission to offer reliable transit services to the growing urban population.   Embracing Advanced Technologies for Enhanced Services The LRTA's dedication to safety and service quality has also led to the adoption of advanced technologies and modernization initiatives. Investments in state-of-the-art signaling systems, automated fare collection, and train control systems have enhanced operational efficiency, ensuring smooth and reliable services for passengers.
A Catalyst for Urban Development
Bridging Transportation and Urban Revitalization Beyond providing efficient transportation, the LRTA has played a significant role in spurring urban development along its lines. The development of transit-oriented communities and commercial centers near LRT stations has revitalized neighborhoods, creating vibrant urban landscapes that offer accessibility and convenience for residents and businesses alike.
Conclusion
The LRTA's 43-year journey showcases its evolution into Southeast Asia's pioneering light rail system, providing convenient, safe, and reliable transportation to millions of commuters in Metro Manila and nearby regions. With an extensive network and commitment to passenger safety and satisfaction, the LRTA remains a vital driver of progress in the Philippines. Looking ahead, the LRTA aspires to enhance services, explore innovative technologies, and undertake transformative projects for a more interconnected and prosperous Philippines.   Sources: THX News & Light Rail Transit Authority.

LRT SHOULD OPERATE UNTIL 12 MIDNIGHT EVEN IF WITH ADD’L P15 AS “PREMIUM FARE”
Tumblr media
I’ve ridden the LRT after 9PM from Vito Cruz station at least thrice this past year and the coach is fairly packed with passengers. DOTr acknowledges that passenger volume after 10PM have increased in the past years.
I understand that LRT tried to extend its operating hours 3-years ago but discontinued it after an assessment in its level of efficiency. Of course, lesser passenger volume may likely result in lower returns for the same costs, but LRT isn’t just a business venture, isn’t it? It is also a public service facility!
Why not add P10 or P15 to the regular fare after 10PM? Call it “premium fare” for the extended hours. I’m sure that this would be viewed as reasonable enough considering that we don’t want to operate the train system at a loss but we also want to provide a safer and quicker means for our loved ones who are coming home from work or from school.

My topic is all about public transportation in the Philippines. Here are some of the various types of trips that our countrymen take on a regular basis.
Jeepneys
Most popular public transportation in the Philippines are jeepneys.
Jeepneys are started when the Americans came in the Philippines. Jeepneys became a symbol in Philippine culture.
Buses
There are also public buses to ride, there is a city operation and a provincial operation. Examples of bus company city operations: Santrans, Del Monte City Trans, Jayross Lucky Seven Tours. Examples of provincial bus operations: Philippine Rabbit, Victory Liner, Five Star.
Trains
The letters LRT and MRT stand for "light rail transit" and "metro rail transit" or "mass rapid transit," respectively. The only distinctions between the two modes of transportation in the Philippines are the roads and the companies that operate them. The LRT is both shorter and slower than the MRT.
LRT Line 1 or LRT-1 is a light rapid transit system line in Metro Manila, Philippines, operated by Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) and owned by the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) as part of the Manila Light Rail Transit System.
Along with the Manila Light Rail Transit System, the Manila Metro Rail Transit System, also known as the Manila Metro, is one of two rapid transit systems serving Metro Manila in the Philippines. It started as a single line in 1999, and by the year 2000, it was completely operational.
The Philippine National Railways is a state-owned railway company in the Philippines that runs a commuter rail service between Metro Manila and Laguna, as well as local services in the Bicol Region between Sipocot, Naga City, and Legazpi City. It is a Department of Transportation-affiliated organization.
Tricycles
There’s also a legend that we ride to the market, to school, and everywhere else. The tricycle. A motorcycle or, in some cases, a bicycle with a sidecar. If it's a bicycle, it's referred to as a pedicab! They're decorated to look like jeepneys, with gadgets strewn around.
Roro
The Philippine Nautical Highway System, also known as the Road Roll-on/Roll-off Terminal System (RRTS) or simply the RoRo System, is a network of highways and vehicular ferry routes that serves as the backbone of the Philippines' nationwide vehicle transportation system.
There is also air transportation. There are Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, Cathay Pacific, and others.
Philippine Airlines, a subsidiary of PAL Holdings, Inc., and formerly known as Philippine Air Lines, is the country's flag carrier. The airline was founded in 1941 and is the first and oldest commercial airline in Asia operating under its original name. It is headquartered at the PNB Financial Center in Pasay.
Cebu Pacific Air, Inc., doing business as Cebu Pacific and stylized as cebu pacific, is a Philippine low-cost carrier based at Mactan–Cebu International Airport in Lapu-Lapu City, Metro Cebu. It is Asia's oldest low-cost airline, having been established in 1988.

Whether it's a lodicakes ube mango cake roll 🍠🥭 or mass transit higad 🐛🚉 I call it anyway I want.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My take on the Megatren, or the LRTA 2000 class EMUs. PH trains that deserve more care on the mainline. Lack of proper maintenance had led to the trains running slower than 80 kph and even their purple and yellow colors wearing out.
For the trains to work at an optimized performance, they would need better rehabilitation and for the system, amendments must be made on the standards used, i.e., Line 2 is heavy rail and was designed as such from the choice of rolling stock to the rails and perhaps the superstructure. Because it was not extended on both sides west and east, the throughput or the demand it serves is much lower than the system can carry.

Manchester/Stockport tramway LRTL tour in 1949
flickr
Manchester/Stockport tramway LRTL tour in 1949 by Frederick Via Flickr: An old original amateur photo (that I have tried to clean up) of a Light Railway Transport League (LRTL) outing beside a Stockport Corporation Tramways tram at the Mersey Square Terminus taken in 1949. The Stockport tramway opened in Aug 1901 and closed in Aug 1951.
On the reverse is written:- "Stockport (Mersey Square) 9/1/49. LRTL Manchester area tour". Manchester Corporation Tramways closed the following day so this may well be an outing around the soon to be closed parts of the Manchester system.
The LRTL were the Light Railway Transport League which was formed in 1937 and renamed the Light Rail Transit Association (LRTA) in 1979.

If there are any errors in the description above please let me know. Thanks.
Any photograph, etc I post on Flickr is in my possession, nothing is copied from another location. Photographers often printed a number of photos from an original neg so there will be other copies out there of your (and my) 'original' transport photo (although occasionally there may be 'holiday snaps' type unique photos).
If you wish to use this image (bearing in mind it may not be my copyright) or obtain a full size version (most of my uploads are small size) please contact me.

Airborne ISR  Market
Tumblr media
Airborne ISR is responsible for collecting information which is related to an enemy’s strengths, weaknesses as well as movements. Operators of airborne intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) give command top-secret information. In order to give decision-makers effective “Situational Awareness,” ISR is the activity that coordinates and integrates command direction, sensors, processed information, and intelligence with timely dissemination. Warfighters account for a key segment in the demand associated with Airborne ISR  Market owing to the advancement in technology. ISR systems can gather data from a variety of sources, such as electrical communications, optical, radar, or infrared imagery. Satellites, unmanned aircraft, aviation systems, specialized ground, sea, or space-based equipment, and human intelligence teams are some of the sources used to collect information which is processed for target acquisition. The quality intelligence associated with military operations is predominantly governed using ISR. The continual advancement of technology in recent years has only raised the demand for ISR technology. Major factors driving the growth of the marketIncreasing demand for ISR platforms will drive the airborne ISR market. The proliferation of UAVs is creating considerable demand for airborne ISR components. Miniaturization and evolution of unmanned aerial systems have enabled defense forces has operate UAVs with ISR payloads as a cost effective alternative to manned airborne ISR platforms. This trend is expected to continue and will be a significant driver for the market.Trends influencing the growth of the marketISTAR is another variant of the ISR that is extensively used by the military forces. ISTAR as the name suggests stands for Intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition, and reconnaissance. The “I” aspect of the abbreviation gains much in ISTAR.  It provides a commander with adequate situational awareness in addition to providing improved decision making capabilities. STAR (Surveillance Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance), RSTA (Reconnaissance Surveillance and Target Acquisition), and STA ((Surveillance Target Acquisition) are noted to be some of the variants of ISTAR. In the case of STAR, S gains primary importance thus it lays emphasis on the sensing component of ISTAR.Market DynamicsIncreased geo-political tensions and brewing border tensions are noted to be one of the key factors that are poised to bolster the investment in ISR. Additionally, the use of this technology increases the agility as well as versatility associated with data gathering. Moreover, the gaps associated with the present military technology and capabilities can also be identified using ISR as the backbone of data transfer, gathering as well as technology building.DevelopmentsSoldier-carried unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were required for applications involving combat monitoring by U.S. Army unmanned aircraft experts. Simi Valley, California-based AeroVironment Inc. provided the answer for them. Army Contracting Command representatives at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, revealed a $11.2 million order for RQ-20B Puma 3 AE unmanned aircraft systems on Friday.A soldier-carried unmanned aircraft system intended for land and sea operations is the AeroVironment Puma 3 AE. The 9.2 foot-wide, 15-pound, 2.5-hour-operable, hand-launched Puma 3 AE has a range of 12.4 miles and a wingspan of 9.2 feet. With AeroVironment’s Long-Range Tracking Antenna, the Puma 3 AE UAV can increase its operational range to as much as 37.2 miles (LRTA).The all-environment Puma, with its Mantis i45 EO/IR sensor package, allows the operator extended flying time and a high level of imaging capacity. It can land on land or in water. The third-generation all-environment Puma 3 AE has a strengthened airframe and an optional underwing transit compartment for secondary payloads and third-party applications. It performs mission-critical intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR).For four billion baht ($112.2 million), the Royal Thai Navy has chosen the Israeli aerospace company Elbit Systems to provide seven Hermes 900 Kochav drones. The company’s bid, according to local media, outperformed more than a dozen offers for the country’s new maritime surveillance drones from Turkey, China, Israel, and the US. Vice Adm. Pokkrong Monthatphalin, a spokesperson for the Navy, reported that Thailand approved the winning offer last week. Within 30 days, a formal contract that is apparently still in the draught stage will be inked at Rayong’s Bang Chang Naval Air Base. Along with the four Hermes 450 drones that the Royal Thai Navy presently employs, the new drones will be stationed at coastal naval sites to support marine activities.Unmanned aerial vehicle (UVA) developer and manufacturer ideaForge, based in Mumbai, has received the largest VTOL Mini UAV Defense Contract in the World for its SWITCH UAV. A fixed wing UAV was traditionally thought to be the best option for last-mile deployments. IdeaForge determined that a Hybrid Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) platform, which can take off without a runway or by hand launching, would be the optimum answer after analyzing the actual operational restrictions that the Indian Army faced, the business stated. 200 systems will be delivered by ideaForge as part of this contract to improve the surveillance capabilities of the Indian Army. Unknown numbers of Vertical Take-off and Landing (VTOL) Mini UAVs make up each system.
