Wild wakes to find Mini curled into a small ball by his side and someone growling softly. He pries open an eye to look over the camp. Sky is still asleep. Time, however, is wide awake and sitting up. He’s using the pile of pinecones Hyrule and Lorule collected and is tossing them at Warriors.

Another pings off the delta’s head, drawing another growl. “Time, what do you want.” It’s more a hiss than a question.

“You should wake up the others.” Time is far too alert for pre-dawn; maybe from living on a ranch.

“You’re beta, you do it!” Warriors burrows further into his blanket.

Time throws another pinecone, catching it in his hair.

“Fine! I’m up!” Warriors yanks back his blanket and flashes a fang at Time. “Now, what’s so important you can’t do it?”

Time blinks at him. “I’m tired.” Then he lays down and rolls up in his bedding.

Warriors is left spluttering and snapping at the air, before devolving into death threats that slowly fade into silence. Time doesn’t move.

Wild watches the interaction, curious as to what relationship is between the delta and beta. Warriors does go and wake the others, collecting the tossed pinecones as he goes.

Meeting Wild’s eyes, which are open, he bypasses the alphas and walks over to Time. The armful of pinecones is dumped on his head. Time sits up and flashes a fang, which Warriors ignores as he stalks back to his bed.

LINKTOBER DAY 2– Hyrule Castle

I have to split today’s linktober into two because there’s too much stuff to tackle. That aside, here’s some lighthearted shenanigans!

The duo’s looking for the source of the blood moons, and zelda’s finally mustered the courage (and annoyance) to poke around within the castle’s bowels. This is great, because she and link have stumbled across a goldmine of ancient murals older than even the ancient sheikah’s catalogued history. Cheers, zelda!

Dragon Roost towers over the ship when Wild gets up in the morning. Something sort of like a hylian with wings…arms is flying overhead. Squinting, Wild glances across the group. Mini is close to Twilight’s side, out of danger of being snatched.

Wind notices his looking. “Those are the rito!”

“But—rito are birds.”

The omega rolls his eyes. “They do have beaks, I guess, but they get their wings from a scale from Valoo at the top of the mountain.”

“No, they’re birds.” Wild blinks at the shape overhead and turns back to Wind. “Birds. Like, real birds. With talons and no fingers and feathers all over their bodies. Rito.”

Wind stares back, lost. “Rito…” he points to the birds flying overhead.

Wild gives up. Whatever these creatures are, here they are called rito. Further debate is precluded by Tetra booting them off the ship. Wind takes the lead as they head up the beach.

“Link!” A girl circles overhead, then flaps down to land.

“Medli!” Wind doesn’t scent her like he did Tetra, but he does pull her into a hug. “We heard something is going on? Can we help?”

“It’s Valoo.” She gives the rest of the group a curious look, then turns to look up the mountain. “I’m better at understanding him now, but even I can’t tell what he’s saying. Something is bothering him. A darkness in the volcano?”

“Is his tail hanging again?”

She laughs, which comes out as stuttering chirps. “No, he’s learned his lesson, I think. It started recently and whatever it is, it’s got him worried.”

Wind nods, then turns to Wild and Sky. “I think we should go inside the volcano and see if there’s a monster that got in. There’s a cavern right below Valoo that could have something inside.”

“Do the rito go there?” Sky asks.

Medli shakes her head. “We can in a pinch, but we singe our feathers too often.”

Discussion continues until Medli calls a goodbye and wings back to the mountain. Wind’s light-hearted nature drops and changes to one of determination. Now, Wild can see the hero who saved this island once before, not the teasing omega of the night before.

“Wind,” Sky says, “would you lead the way to the volcano?”

“Sure. I’ve got a grapple hook; there are some bits we’ll need to swing or jump. If you have fire protection you can use it, but I made it through with only a few burns.”

Wild’s face twists at the word burns, but he switches gear to protect against heat. The others do the same. Then it’s into the volcano.
