how I get my ideas

I’m gonna be honest, I have no concrete explanation when it comes to how I personally come up with ideas. I’m the kind of person that’ll just see a name, and immediately come up with something.

For my fantasy romance novel inspired DR, (aka my Alruna DR) I came up with the basic premise by seeing a name recommendation of Alruna on Pinterest.

It was from this EXACT image:

I mean at the time, I was super into fantasy romance novels (I still am, but I’ve been busy, currently reading Blood Oath by Raye Wagner and Kelly St. Claire) so that def helped with everything.

If you aren’t already a person that lives in their head 24/7 like me, my “”””creative techniques”””” may not do you any favors 😭😭

Oh, I did do a TikTok on this topic awhile ago; but to summarize:

Listen to music and imagine yourself in a different reality.

what I personally do

A lot of my ideas are simply from brainstorming, colors, and photos.

color palettes

Color palettes are a great low effort way to come up with ideas.

Color makes you feel a certain way, and it can remind you of something too. Patterns work well too, but whenever I look at a pattern, I usually always think of something cottagecore or Victorian.

brainstorming

Almost skipped this one lmao. Brainstorming is best reserved for when you’ve got enough tangible information about your DR.

There’s several ways you can do this quickly; Q&As and categories.

Q&As is what I did with Nana and her dollmaker DR, but essentially you just ask a bunch of detailed questions about said DR. The more detailed the questions are, the more detailed your answer’s gonna be (also puts more depth into certain parts of your DR). Again, if you’re having trouble coming up with questions yourself, you can always send me your premise through DMs or Asks.

Categorical brainstorming is smth I do 24/7; it’s also very similar to the Q&A technique, but it gives you a more solid topic to work with. Since you’re doing this with a premise, come up with a few broad categories that relate to your DR. Then, go to one of your categories, and make more categories of that concept. Do this until you can come up with something + until you finish working on your DR for the day. I do this in notion, but remember to limit yourself at some point!

For example, let’s use this AI-generated DR idea:

A colony on a distant water planet has uncovered something extraordinary: the entire ocean is sentient, communicating through tides, storms, and currents. As scientists race to decode the language of this “Living Sea,” they begin to realize it has a deep and ancient intelligence—one that has been observing humanity and may hold secrets of life beyond their comprehension.

(OKAY AS MUCH AS I BASH AI THIS IDEA WAS PRETTY GOOD 😒😒😒😒😒)

So the first few categories I can think of are:

Meaning, Consciousness, and Life.

Meaning is most interesting to me right now, so let’s go with that. Before we head into more categories, write a brief description of each category. It’s good to add a lot of questions in these descriptions to motivate you to add more to each category. Usually I have a ton of questions in super broad categories with almost no tangible definitions.

Meaning: How does the ocean bring meaning to the world?

Consciousness: What do people consider consciousness is this world, and how did humans come to find that the ocean is sentient?

Life: How did the ocean affect life on land and within its water? If the ocean is sentient, what about freshwater rivers? Are they their own separate identity? Is there even any freshwater on the planet, or is there different kinds of water or only one kind of water?

What meaning does…

Oceanic events, Humans, Planets, and Ocean Dwelling Creatures have on the things in this DR?

Hold on, before we make another category, let’s look over what we have so far. When we come back to this chart, it’s not likely we’ll understand specifically what we meant by these categories. Because of this, either come up with short sentences explaining each one (remember, don’t get too lost into one category just yet, try to do this part loosely, without much detail). For the sake of time, I’ll just start digging into one category.

Oki doki, let’s take a look at a category we’re most interested in. I think I’ll go with ocean dwelling creatures!

Now that you’ve chosen a category we like the most so far, let’s talk as much as we can about it (including questions)

Ocean dwelling creatures do have some sense of the ocean’s intelligence. This is how animals migrate, and some unexplained behaviors are due to the ocean’s consciousness. Mutations are also associated with the ocean’s sentience, the ocean’s inner turmoil and bliss can affect the behaviors + appearance these mutations have on the organism. Since the ocean also has a certain moral code it likes to uphold, it tries to reduce its emotion’s ability to influence the aquatic creatures’ in its depths.

Deeper dwelling creatures often are the most intelligent organisms in the ocean. The deepest crevices are home to advanced civilizations similar to that of ours; however, they prefer to remain undetected to outsiders because of the ocean’s reluctance to affect creatures’ development from other planets. The ocean actively tries to ward away humans from its depths by making the creatures below more aggressive and scary (to humans).

Deeper dwelling creatures record the ocean’s history— I think that’s enough for today LMAO

Very simple, just look at a photo and think about what kind of place it is and how it’d be to be there. I’ve done this a lot with individual places in my DRs.

I think the most creative people are those who read often!

Sure, you don’t have to be creative to read, but books do help you with pacing, plot, foreshadowing, and most especially, ideas. Especially if you read books with a variety of protagonists, it’s easier to portray different kinds of people in your DRs if you know how certain people think.

remember, take breaks often, and don’t beat yourself up if you aren’t able to come up with something you like!

Deuce Spade !!

The most panicked out of the three. Poor boy thought you broke your bones.

If you also do things like yoga and he sees you doing those intense positions, I think he’d have to try his hardest not to pass out.

“[NAME], ARE YOU OKAY!? ARE YOU INJURED!?” “No, I’m just doing some stretches, don’t worry”

After the initial shock, he’d think your flexibility is honestly really cool! You being able to do all kinds of poses with little to no struggle unlike people with regular flexibility levels.

He might even ask to help him out with stretching exercises to help relax his muscles, or to just destress in general.

I don’t think he won’t stop acting like he got jumpscared every time he sees you doing something unnatural with your body though, such as bending your arms so far behind you to the point anyone would think there’s an invisible device pulling them back.

I think hamstring stretches are the bane of Deuce’s existence when doing cooldown exercises, so during PE class if he sees you doing it with such ease, he’d be more motivated (and slightly competitive) to be able to do it himself.

I think he’d also ask if you did or used to do ballet since some of the poses he’s seen you do looked like things ballerinas he saw on Magicam did.

Out of all body parts, the part that makes him feel like fainting when you bend them weirdly are your fingers. Seeing them bent in ways they’re not supposed to makes his legs feel weak.

All in all, thinks you’re super cool for it but at the same time it terrifies him.

Jack Howl !!

I think he was just confused on what happened at first, but didn't really care much.

"[Name], did you just...wrap your leg around your waist...?" "Yeah, what about it?"

He's an NRC student, he's probably seen things much weirder than your limbs bending in ways they shouldn't.

But that didn't really stop him from having that thought in the back of his brain going 'are they hurt?", your arm isn't supposed to bend that way, are you alright?

Congrats, if you do yoga or any other exercises that require a lot of stretching, you got yourself a new person to do them with!

I also hc that Jack might have the slightest trouble with flexibility exercises, so he really appreciates you helping him out with it.

But sometimes when he sees you do something that your body should not be able to do, even if he remembers you're incredibly flexible, he just can't wrap his head around how that's even possible.

Although Jack doesn't show it much, he actually thinks your little ability is really cool, no matter if you got that flexible due to training or you were just born with it.

Leona Kingscholar !!

I think he'd be a little impressed by it actually, bordering between impressed and weirded out.

Especially if you didn't tell him that you could bend your body that much and he walked into you literally folded in half limbs all over the place but a completely neutral look on your face.

"Herbivore, what in the Great Seven are you doing" "Oh just stretching a bit, I just woke up"

"😬❓❓" would probably be his reaction to that.

After that he won't really care, occasionally he finds the ways you can bend and stretch your limbs a little funny.

Just please don't do anything weird when he's just woken up, sometimes he'd think there's a deformed demon at the foot of his bed but it's just you doing some strange stretches.

finally a new post! i thought about this way too much to not make a post about it so here goes. honestly there is no logic or thought behind this post. i see a pokémon that reminds me of one of the guys, i assign them that pokémon and this was my only thought process the whole time lmao enjoy (also i’m so sorry for how low effort this post is. i made it when i was bored on vacation and couldn’t stop thinking about the idea)

I talked a lot bit utc, so TL;DR: while HoD is viable for DPS Kokomi, OHC is overall better due to its flexibility + the damage the bubble can do, even at a mid-level investment. As for whether it’s worth it to go for damage, that ultimately depends on how much you’re willing to invest in her. She’s perfectly fine as a low/mid investment healer, and it’s easier to build her like that, too. But if you plan to main her!! I can honestly say that it was so worth all the effort, and I don’t regret the grind for my Kokomi at all <3

Okok so with the summary up top, here’s the full rundown from my own experience HAHAH 

Regarding the damage-dealing, HoD and OHC both have their uses, but imo OHC is more flexible, so that’s what I’d recommend. Bc like the bubble honestly does p decent damage in both a dps-centric and a healing-centric kokomi build–– I’m talking, like, on a mid-investment kokomi, a bubble from her E’s healing alone can probably do 8-10k AoE damage every 3-4 seconds on a lower-end estimate. 

It can be viable in both a team where you just use Kokomi for pure healing via her skill and just want extra damage to help your main DPS, or in a DPS Kokomi team where you use her AAs within her burst and want bigg extra damage (my in-burst kokomi does around 20k ish per bubble, which is on the below average end for DPS Kokomis lmao) 

HoD isn’s bad, though, if you already have that prepped! It’s just that it’s not as flexible as OHC since it mainly shines when Kokomi uses her burst, and not so much passively in the way that OHC does.

Regarding whether or not damage is worth going for, honestly i’d only recommend going for a damage dealing kokomi if it’s something you’re willing to invest in? Because frankly she’s not one of the highest damage dealers, right, and she’s perfectly viable as a low-investment healer, who uses either thrilling tales or prototype amber, paired with 2pcs millelith/maidens/clam (or a 4pcs millelith.)

Resin is super scarce and artifact rng is shit, so you have to be efficient about how you use it, and farming for a decent set that’s got what Kokomi needs does take time. But if you happen to get a good OHC/HoD set passively just from farming blizzard and husk, then that’s great! If you do decide to make her your main, it’s honestly so fun because your team will literally never die and she can legitimately kill shit super fast in the right team comps, and it’s super satisfying to make a character who people said could do damage do damage, yk?
