Why You Should Take Franchise Opportunities in Ontario
Being open to franchise opportunities in Ontario enables you to tap into a huge target market with a growing and stable business that makes you your boss.
There are plenty of franchise opportunities in Ontario that you can grab. Business relies heavily on how you find opportunities and how you can make the most out of them. Franchising is a good business as long as you know what to do.
You must choose a food business you know will work for you. The second thing to consider when owning a food business is, knowing where to place them. Third, you must know how to market the franchise to the right people.
Franchising is like having your own company but in an easier way. Some people can put up a business from scratch. Food companies give you opportunities to do so. You can now be your boss by acquiring a restaurant of your choice.
Why Franchises Are Successful in Ontario
Ontario is one of the best places to invest in a food franchise. It’s a place where people have diverse liking for food. That means you won’t have to worry about attracting customers, as many people are willing to try out new tastes.
On the other hand, you can also find people loyal to the franchises they like. You can take advantage of that and open up a food business that you know will click with the current tastes of the locals.
Suppose you want to open a franchise, to go with a brand you know or brands that have caught your attention. Always research the brand and what they offer in their food companies' deals. The more you know about the restaurant, the easier it will be for you to understand the process.
What It’s Like to Own a Food Franchise
The next question would be, What would it feel like in the first place? Does it differ from when you build a company from scratch? Can you get benefits from food companies?
To get franchises, you must also understand how the system works. It’s not the same as having a business, but it gives you the benefits of managing a business of your choice. It’s a good option for those struggling to build a niche business.
Once you own a food business, you can manage it actively or hire people to stay on-site. What matters in the food business is that you can market the brand well and have a steady flow of customers. You can always expect revenue when a food business is done correctly.
Perks of Owning a Franchise
Just how many benefits can you get from owning a franchise? Here are some benefits of owning a food business. Remember that not all franchises are the same; some might have varying rules, regulations, and expectations from entrepreneurs.
Practicality and Popularity
When you choose a popular franchise, you no longer need to worry about getting customers' attention. Those loyal to the brand will always prefer your franchise over anything else. The stronger the food brand is, the more comprehensive your customer base is.
It doesn't mean that you can’t reach out to new customers. When marketing is done right, you can almost always reel new and interested customers to the restaurant. Everybody eats; in Ontario, many people like eating outside and trying new things.
Solid Branding
Branding is one of the most challenging things to establish with businesses. You have to ensure that the brand doesn’t copy anything else and that it’s memorable for people to recall. With food businesses, you can always pick strong brands that you want to manage,
The solid branding of these restaurants can help get your business out in the open. People will easily recognize the brand and will try to visit your franchise. It is true, especially for customers who wanted a nearer location to their favorite food business.
Consistent Customer Experience
People who like the brand will always try out franchises close to their areas. If you tap into an existing customer base in the location, you’ll be able to give them the customer experience they want to experience themselves.
One rule of handling franchises is that you follow the processes and procedures of the brand. Once you follow their operations gives the customers a familiar feeling and makes them want to return to your food business.
Exciting Business Model
Acquiring restaurants also means that you have to be open to different types of business models. Restaurants and food preparation services have their own rules and regulations. It helps if you’re familiar with the brand‘s business model before applying for a franchise.
It’s crucial to look up the franchise that you want to get beforehand. Immerse yourself in the business model and the company culture of the franchise you wish to acquire. It will be easier to adapt to the changes if you know more about the brand.
Sales and Discounts
If you’re part of a franchise, you can secure discounts and buy items in bulk. You also have access to sales and the power to decide how to promote them. Most of the time, They will discuss marketing strategies with representatives from the leading company.
You also have the power to market the ongoing sales and discounts in the restaurant. Sometimes, the brand's team discusses the plans with franchisees. Once common ground is set and everyone agrees with the marketing plan, you can prepare the promotional materials.
How Franchising Helps You Grow
It’s not impossible to grow a business, even in a franchise. Of course, building your brand from scratch will give you all the revenue that you gain. However, the costs of putting up the business first are more than double. Franchises give you a more accessible option of getting the same revenue through an established brand.
Food businesses are rewarding and motivate you to improve yourself as a business owner. Not everyone can immediately market a brand-new business; some feel overwhelmed by the work and stress that companies entail; franchises take away all those stress.
Expect more security from franchising because they supply you with staff training and resources for starting the business. Choose which franchise opportunities in Ontario you would like to pursue.

Why JATP Is Taking a While to Get Officially Renewed
Thought I would put my thoughts into words on the renewal situation. We know that the show was released on Netflix on September 10, 2020. As of today, it has been 242 days (10 May 2021). Julie and the Phantoms was released under Netflix Family, marking it as a children’s show on the streaming service. It was released in the middle of the second wave of the coronavirus (in the US) that has swept the world over. The show was created by Kenny Ortega, legendary choreographer and director.
To start off, we have to acknowledge that we ARE in a pandemic. Due to that, things have been touch and go in so many industries. That includes the TV/Film industry as well. The US and Canada, the two countries involved in making the show, have to follow the rules and laws related to COVID regardless of what people in the industry want. With that, we have to pay attention to what is going on with the pandemic to know how to go about filming.
As of right now, Canada still has closed borders from the US to nonessential travel. To get into Canada as a foreigner you have to be going for a specific reason and follow all the Covid related travel rules. To read more about this, you can go to canada.ca and type in for traveling during the pandemic. Not to mention that for a lot of areas in Canada, they are still essentially in lockdown because of the now rising numbers in the country. Charlie’s home province of New Brunswick is still pretty restricted.
Regarding vaccinations, although the United States has been slowly getting people vaccinated, Canada has had issues with getting vaccinations and don’t nearly have as many vaccinated. It is only just a few days ago that New Brunswick started administering vaccinations in the last few days. The vaccinations are only for people who are 50+ who fall into specific medical condition guidelines. For British Columbia, where the show is filmed, vaccines started getting administered the third week of April. It is believed there is a chance of getting all* adults vaccinated by mid June. My source for this information is from a native New Brunswicker and a CTV News article.
For the cast, getting vaccinated is paramount. Owen is already vaccinated. Madison’s dad is also vaccinated so it is likely she is as well or part way there. Now for people who are NOT vaccinated yet, most vaccines are administered in two doses. The doses are done about three weeks apart (I am partially vaccinated and my first dose was already done and second is next week). This knowledge is important as people need to be aware of the timing of these things. The amount of time between vaccines and for everyone in the cast and crew is essential for everything to go smoothly with filming.
One of the big things that I have seen a lot is the outrage at other shows on Netflix being renewed before Julie and the Phantoms. There is a two fold answer to this. To start off, we have to remember that because of this pandemic, things take longer to process to be extra diligent and that more money is be used to cover for reconstructions and accommodations due to Covid. Knowing these two things, let’s delve into the renewals of other shows.
Some of the other shows that have been renewed are Fate: The Winx Saga, Bridgerton, Ginny and Georgia, and Emily in Paris. The big difference between these shows and Julie and the Phantoms is the fact they are not in the Netflix Family category. They are considered content for adults or young adults. Netflix has different rules on their shows that are put out on the regular platform versus the family section. Netflix Family rarely posts when a show is renewed so far from its premiere date for the next season. So in that respect, Julie and the Phantoms wouldn’t be given a huge announcement for the next season’s renewal if it follows the pattern of Netflix Family’s marketing.
Tying into this the matter of where the rest of the shows are filmed and the backing behind them in regards to production. The Winx show and Bridgerton are filmed in the UK, Ginny and Georgia is filmed in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and Emily in Paris is filmed on location in France. The reason that this matters is because these places have different rules for working during this pandemic, the vaccinations levels, and the threat of getting sick from Covid. These shows are also connected to larger properties or influential individuals*. Vancouver is a popular city to film in, of course, but it has been dealing with an uptick in cases as well as in a different province than Ginny and Georgia, and as such has their own rules. We cannot take into the likes of Riverdale or other shows that are filming right now in Vancouver. Lots of these shows were renewed and set to film already when the pandemic hit. They do not factor into things.
The last part of this is the production costs for making the show. As mentioned before, Vancouver is a popular city to film in. Due to the pandemic, it costs more to film because the need to have extra precautions, regular Covid testing, and etc. We know that there were shows that were initially renewed by Netflix but then canceled after the fact. The reason for this is that Netflix likely realized the cost to produce the shows would be too much and not in the best interest of the cast, crew, and any companies involved in the middle of such a huge reaching pandemic.
Compared to other shows in the Netflix Family section, Julie and the Phantoms has a high production level. I did some research on the Netflix originals in the section and the shows on there are either very low budget or have a backing from a franchise/company (ex. Baby Boss, Fast and Furious, Jurassic Park). Julie and the Phantoms does not have that. It is not connected to an established franchise or a large company. It is simply made by the likes of Kenny Ortega who does not skimp on anything in his productions. Kenny has stated that he is not willing to let the grandness of the show suffer because of the pandemic. The show has many crowd scenes and dancing sequences that require a lot of people. The show won’t be what it is without this. Based on this, we know that Netflix wants to be absolutely sure they can go forth with filming before announcing a renewal.
And there you guys go. All the information that I looked into and checked for this piece. I hope this helps many people understand what is going on why it is taking longer for the show to get renewed. It is not that Netflix doesn’t want to renew it. It is a matter of HOW and WHEN. If that makes sense. If you have any questions about what I wrote, you can leave a comment or DM me.
all*- Some individuals may not wish to be vaccinated
influential individuals*- There are people connected to some of the shows that have a standing within the media and the finances or awards to warrant being a part of the show or it being made at all.
Amendment
I was informed by my source in New Brunswick that vaccines have been administered since January but the qualification for who is eligible for the vaccines can change from week to week.
Amendment 2
Reuters has reported that children aged 12-15 are able to start getting the vaccine today (13 May 2021). So that means that Jadah and Sonny (15 and 13, respectively) will be fully vaccinated by the middle of June.
Amendment 3
A few days ago a local upstate New York newspaper wrote about Canada starting the process of opening up borders again. The process is in the beginning stages so there is no announced date(s) on the border reopening but it is in the works.
Amendment 4
A show called Firefly Lane has been renewed for a season 2. This is important because Firefly Lane is filmed in the same area of British Columbia as Julie and the Phantoms. British Columbia is getting better in regards to vaccinations and so this proves good news of a season 2 announcement for Julie and the Phantoms.
Amendment 5
It was reported on 21 or 22 June 2021 that Canada will relax quarantine rules for vaccinated Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and foreign nationals for essential work. This new system will go into effect 5 June 2021. If you are fully vaccinated and pass rules set by the government, you will NOT have to abide by the hotel quarantine steps when entering the country. That means that the JATP cast and crew can get to filming right away instead of quarantining beforehand. To read more about this: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.lonelyplanet.com/amp/articles/canada-border-reopening
Amendment 6
On Charlie’s live yesterday (28 June 2021), Madison said that she got the second dose of the vaccine earlier in the day. In 14 days, she will be good to go on going out and such. Hopefully Jadah and Sonny have gotten at least their first dose. Gets us closer to being able to have the cast and crew together for the show.
Amendment 7
The National Law Review published an article on 2 July 2021 saying that fully vaccinated individuals will be able to travel between Canada and the US on 21 July or possibly sooner. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he wants 75% of Canadians to be fully vaccinated before allowing the border to be opened. With current numbers, it is believed this will be achieved in a few weeks time.
Amendment 8
The New York Times just reported that fully vaccinated Americans could be allowed into Canada by mid August and that people from other countries could be allowed to enter by September.
Amendment 9
It was just reported about two hours ago that Canada will allow vaccinated Americans in on 9 August. That is exactly 3 weeks from now on a Monday. Now all we have to focus on is protocols for safety while in Vancouver while filming.

Do we need humans for that job? Automation booms after COVID
Ask for a roast beef sandwich at an Arby’s drive-thru east of Los Angeles and you may be talking to Tori — an artificially intelligent voice assistant that will take your order and send it to the line cooks.
“It doesn’t call sick,” says Amir Siddiqi, whose family installed the AI voice at its Arby’s franchise this year in Ontario, California. “It doesn’t get corona. And the reliability of it is great.”
The pandemic didn’t just threaten Americans’ health when it slammed the U.S. in 2020 — it may also have posed a long-term threat to many of their jobs. Faced with worker shortages and higher labor costs, companies are starting to automate service sector jobs that economists once considered safe, assuming that machines couldn’t easily provide the human contact they believed customers would demand.
Past experience suggests that such automation waves eventually create more jobs than they destroy, but that they also disproportionately wipe out less skilled jobs that many low-income workers depend on. Resulting growing pains for the U.S. economy could be severe.
If not for the pandemic, Siddiqi probably wouldn’t have bothered investing in new technology that could alienate existing employees and some customers. But it’s gone smoothly, he says: “Basically, there’s less people needed but those folks are now working in the kitchen and other areas.”
Ideally, automation can redeploy workers into better and more interesting work, so long as they can get the appropriate technical training, says Johannes Moenius, an economist at the University of Redlands. But although that’s happening now, it’s not moving quickly enough, he says.
Worse, an entire class of service jobs created when manufacturing began to deploy more automation may now be at risk. “The robots escaped the manufacturing sector and went into the much larger service sector,” he says. “I regarded contact jobs as safe. I was completely taken by surprise.”
Improvements in robot technology allow machines to do many tasks that previously required people — tossing pizza dough, transporting hospital linens, inspecting gauges, sorting goods. The pandemic accelerated their adoption. Robots, after all, can’t get sick or spread disease. Nor do they request time off to handle unexpected childcare emergencies.
Economists at the International Monetary Fund found that past pandemics had encouraged firms to invest in machines in ways that could boost productivity — but also kill low-skill jobs. “Our results suggest that the concerns about the rise of the robots amid the COVID-19 pandemic seem justified,’’ they wrote in a January paper.
The consequences could fall most heavily on the less-educated women who disproportionately occupy the low- and mid-wage jobs most exposed to automation — and to viral infections. Those jobs include salesclerks, administrative assistants, cashiers and aides in hospitals and those who take care of the sick and elderly.
Employers seem eager to bring on the machines. A survey last year by the nonprofit World Economic Forum found that 43% of companies planned to reduce their workforce as a result of new technology. Since the second quarter of 2020, business investment in equipment has grown 26%, more than twice as fast as the overall economy.
The fastest growth is expected in the roving machines that clean the floors of supermarkets, hospitals and warehouses, according to the International Federation of Robotics, a trade group. The same group also expects an uptick in sales of robots that provide shoppers with information or deliver room service orders in hotels.
Restaurants have been among the most visible robot adopters. In late August, for instance, the salad chain Sweetgreen announced it was buying kitchen robotics startup Spyce, which makes a machine that cooks up vegetables and grains and spouts them into bowls.
It’s not just robots, either — software and AI-powered services are on the rise as well. Starbucks has been automating the behind-the-scenes work of keeping track of a store’s inventory. More stores have moved to self-checkout.
Scott Lawton, CEO of the Arlington, Virginia-based restaurant chain Bartaco, was having trouble last fall getting servers to return to his restaurants when they reopened during the pandemic.
So he decided to do without them. With the help of a software firm, his company developed an online ordering and payment system customers could use over their phones. Diners now simply scan a barcode at the center of each table to access a menu and order their food without waiting for a server. Workers bring food and drinks to their tables. And when they’re done eating, customers pay over their phones and leave.
The innovation has shaved the number of staff, but workers aren’t necessarily worse off. Each Bartaco location — there are 21 — now has up to eight assistant managers, roughly double the pre-pandemic total. Many are former servers, and they roam among the tables to make sure everyone has what they need. They are paid annual salaries starting at $55,000 rather than hourly wages.
Tips are now shared among all the other employees, including dishwashers, who now typically earn $20 an hour or more, far higher than their pre-pandemic pay. “We don’t have the labor shortages that you’re reading about on the news,” Lawton says.
The uptick in automation has not stalled a stunning rebound in the U.S. jobs market — at least so far.
The U.S. economy lost a staggering 22.4 million jobs in March and April 2020, when the pandemic gale hit the U.S. Hiring has since bounced back briskly: Employers have brought back 17 million jobs since April 2020. In June, they posted a record 10.1 million job openings and are complaining that they can’t find enough workers.
Behind the hiring boom is a surge in spending by consumers, many of whom got through the crisis in unexpectedly good shape financially — thanks to both federal relief checks and, in many cases, savings accumulated by working from home and skipping the daily commute.
Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody’s Analytics, expects employers are likely to be scrambling for workers for a long time.
For one thing, many Americans are taking their time returning to work — some because they’re still worried about COVID-19 health risks and childcare problems, others because of generous federal unemployment benefits, set to expire nationwide Sept. 6.
In addition, large numbers of Baby Boom workers are retiring. “The labor market is going to be very, very tight for the foreseeable future,” Zandi says.
For now, the short-term benefits of the economic snapback are overwhelming any job losses from automation, whose effects tend to show up gradually over a period of years. That may not last. Last year, researchers at the University of Zurich and University of British Columbia found that the so-called jobless recoveries of the past 35 years, in which economic output rebounded from recessions faster than employment, could be explained by the loss of jobs vulnerable to automation.
Despite strong hiring since the middle of last year, the U.S. economy is still 5.3 million jobs short of what it had in February 2020. And Lydia Boussour, lead U.S. economist at Oxford Economics, calculated last month that 40% of the missing jobs are vulnerable to automation, especially those in food preparation, retail sales and manufacturing.
Some economists worry that automation pushes workers into lower-paid positions. Daron Acemoglu, an economist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Pascual Restrepo of Boston University estimated in June that up to 70% of the stagnation in U.S. wages between 1980 and 2016 could be explained by machines replacing humans doing routine tasks.
Many of the jobs that get automated were at the middle of the skill distribution,” Acemoglu says. “They don’t exist anymore, and the workers that used to perform them are now doing lower-skill jobs.”

Nearly 1 in 3 Americans experienced a weather disaster this summer (Washington Post) Nearly 1 in 3 Americans live in a county hit by a weather disaster in the past three months, according to a new Washington Post analysis of federal disaster declarations. On top of that, 64 percent live in places that experienced a multiday heat wave—phenomena that are not officially deemed disasters but are considered the most dangerous form of extreme weather. The expanding reach of climate-fueled disasters, a trend that has been increasing at least since 2018, shows the extent to which a warming planet has already transformed Americans’ lives. At least 388 people in the United States have died due to hurricanes, floods, heat waves and wildfires since June, according to media reports and government records. Record-shattering temperatures in the Pacific Northwest cooked hundreds of people to death in their own homes. Flash floods turned basement apartments into death traps and in one instance ripped twin babies from their father’s arms. Wildfires raged through 5 million acres of tinder-dry forest. Chronic drought pushed federal officials to impose mandatory cuts to Colorado River water for the first time.
Do we need humans for that job? Automation booms after COVID (AP) Ask for a roast beef sandwich at an Arby’s drive-thru east of Los Angeles and you may be talking to Tori—an artificially intelligent voice assistant that will take your order and send it to the line cooks. “It doesn’t call sick,” says Amir Siddiqi, whose family installed the AI voice at its Arby’s franchise this year in Ontario, California. “It doesn’t get corona. The Biden Doctrine? (NYT) In the chaotic finale of America’s 20-year war in Afghanistan, a Biden Doctrine is emerging: a foreign policy that avoids forever wars while addressing rising powers. China as America’s existential competitor. Russia as a disrupter. Iran and North Korea as nuclear proliferators. Cyberthreats as ever-evolving. Terrorism as spreading far beyond Afghanistan. The Biden Doctrine “calls for a return to protecting human rights and promoting democracy, but only when consistent with U.S. goals,” our Washington reporters write.
Outside of New Orleans, an even longer road to Ida recovery (AP) Terrebonne Parish was among the hardest-hit areas of Louisiana battered to an unprecedented degree by Hurricane Ida. Though Louisiana’s largest electric utility, Entergy, estimates most residents in New Orleans will have power by Wednesday, recovery efforts outside of the city could be a much longer slog. Some parishes outside New Orleans were battered for hours by winds of 100 mph (160 kph) or more. Fully restoring electricity to some of these southeastern parishes could take until the end of the month, according to Entergy President and CEO Phillip May. Ida damaged or destroyed more than 22,000 power poles, more than hurricanes Katrina, Zeta and Delta combined, an impact May called “staggering.” More than 5,200 transformers failed and nearly 26,000 spans of wire—the stretch of transmission wires between poles—were down.
Mutual aid groups give personalized help after Hurricane Ida (AP) The day after Hurricane Ida struck Louisiana, Delaney Nolan spent hours biking around New Orleans, handing out money to people who needed to pay for supplies or for the hotel rooms where they’d taken shelter. Once the cash ran out—banks were closed, and ATMs were empty or no longer running without electricity—Nolan Venmo’d people the money they needed. As an organizer for the mutual aid group Southern Solidarity in Louisiana, she and her team also handed out free meals from restaurants that were cooking up their food stockpiles before they spoiled. Nolan is among the faces of philanthropy that are tending to the immediate personal losses inflicted by the hurricane. Mutual aid networks like Southern Solidarity spring into action to supplement the more established relief services from federal and local governments, as well as larger charities. The networks, in which community members pool resources and distribute donations to care for one another, seek to avoid the traditional charity model of giver and receiver. They grew in popularity during the COVID-19 pandemic as communities across the country faced dire needs. And now they are mobilizing in the wake of other disasters like Hurricane Ida. “Mutual aid is the most effective help right now,” Nolan said. “It’s built on communications with a lot of neighbors and existing relationships, from personally knowing what people need.”
El Salvador court drops ban on presidential reelection (AP) El Salvador’s top court and its election authority have tossed aside what seemed to be a constitutional ban on consecutive presidential reelection, setting the stage for President Nayib Bukele to potentially seek a second term in 2024. The Supreme Court’s Constitutional Chamber on Friday told the Supreme Electoral Tribunal to permit a second term, and the electoral authority announced Saturday it would accept what it called a ruling that cannot be appealed. The rulings—by a court recently overhauled by Bukele’s party—alarmed opposition parties and citizen activist groups who have long accused the popular leader of authoritarian tendencies and who said the ruling was clearly unconstitutional. Bukele has not so far announced plans to seek reelection, but critics assume he will.
Now breakneck economic growth is over, China focuses on new goal: equality (NBC News) Communist China has relentlessly pursued economic growth for decades, creating more billionaires than the United States, lifting 800 million people out of poverty, but leaving another 600 million to live on $150 a month. Now, President Xi Jinping is planning what some experts say would be a dramatic about-face, trying to restructure Chinese society by cracking down on the country’s newly minted super-rich and redistributing wealth more evenly among its population of 1.4 billion. The drive involves plans to “regulate excessively high incomes” and “encourage high-income people and enterprises to return more to society,” according to a readout of Xi’s comments at a meeting of the Chinese Communist Party by the state-run news agency Xinhua. While his slogan of “common prosperity” was hardly new among Chinese leaders, Xi’s speech last month was the starkest example of his apparent plan for a reshaped society. For years the Communist Party has staked its legitimacy on growth that has outpaced that of any other major economy; now that that is slowing, it may feel it has to offer a new promise: equality.
Taiwan scrambles jets against renewed Chinese military activity (Reuters) Taiwan’s air force scrambled on Sunday against renewed Chinese military activity, with its defence ministry reporting that 19 aircraft including nuclear-capable bombers had flown into Taiwan’s air defence identification zone. Chinese-claimed Taiwan has complained for a year or more of repeated missions by China’s air force near the self-ruled island, often in the southwestern part of its air defence zone near the Taiwan-controlled Pratas Islands. The latest Chinese mission involved 10 J-16 and four Su-30 fighters, as well as four H-6 bombers, which can carry nuclear weapons, and an anti-submarine aircraft, Taiwan’s Defence Ministry said.
Rescue groups: US tally misses hundreds left in Afghanistan (AP) Veteran-led rescue groups say the Biden administration’s estimate that no more than 200 U.S. citizens were left behind in Afghanistan is too low and also overlooks hundreds of other people they consider to be equally American: permanent legal residents with green cards. Some groups say they continue to be contacted by American citizens in Afghanistan who did not register with the U.S. Embassy before it closed and by others not included in previous counts because they expressed misgivings about leaving loved ones behind. As for green card holders, they have lived in the U.S. for years, paid taxes, become part of their communities and often have children who are U.S. citizens. Yet the administration says it does not have an estimate on the number of such permanent residents who are in Afghanistan and desperately trying to escape Taliban rule.
Soldiers detain Guinea’s president, dissolve government (AP) Mutinous soldiers in the West African nation of Guinea detained President Alpha Conde on Sunday after hours of heavy gunfire rang out near the presidential palace in the capital, then announced on state television that the government had been dissolved in an apparent coup d’etat. The country’s borders were closed and its constitution was declared invalid in the announcement read aloud on state television by army Col. Mamadi Doumbouya, who told Guineans: “The duty of a soldier is to save the country.” It was not immediately known, though, how much support Doumbouya had within the military or whether other soldiers loyal to the president of more than a decade might attempt to wrest back control. A former U.S. diplomat in Conakry confirmed to The Associated Press that the president had been taken into custody by the putschists. Conde, in power for more than a decade, had seen his popularity plummet since he sought a third term last year, saying that term limits did not apply to him. Sunday’s dramatic developments underscored how dissent had mounted within the military as well.

CANTLON: BRUINS BEAT PACK 6-3 WIN DIVISION TITLE
BY: Gerry Cantlon, Howlings MARLBOROUGH, MA - Providence scored six goals over the second half of the hockey game and defeated the Hartford Wolf Pack 6-3, and captured their second consecutive Atlantic Division title Thursday afternoon The Wolf Pack closed out the abbreviated AHL 24 game regular season with a record of 16-9-1-0 for 29 points, and Providence concluded the year with a 15-6-2-2 record for 34 points. Just before the game the Wolf Pack lost two-thirds of their top line in Justin Richards and Tim Gettinger and top forward Jonny Brodzinski because of injuries and suspensions. So, head coach Kris Knoblauch had to creates several new line combinations for their all-important regular season finale. The Wolf had built a 2-0 lead nearly halfway through the second period before the Bruins rallied on Hartford. The Wolf Pack in the first period as defenseman Zach Giuttari took a pass from Anthony Greco launched a shot at the net that was blocked in front. Still, the puck went right to Patrick Khordorenko, who whistled a hard wrist shot from 30 feet out that sailed over Bruin’s goalie Dan Vladar blocker pad and into the back of the net at 13:49 for his fourth goal of the season. The Wolf Pack had solid chances in the first period Mason Geersten early in the period and Ty Ronning had three quality chances early, a powerplay bid midway through the period and late in the period that Dan Vladar denied each one. Ryan Dmowski (Old Lyme/Gunnery prep) is playing just his fifth game of the year, and first, since his birthday was denied with 2:55 left in the first. Adam Huska did his best in stopping all shots he faced, including Robert Lantosi twice, Urho Vaakanainen, and Jack Studnicka. In the second period, the Pack went up 2-0 as captain Vincent LoVerde too raced in from the right point, took Patrick Khordorenko’s backhand pass off Paul Thompson’s rebound, and caught Loverde perfectly in stride as he fired his first of the season into the net at 6:17 The Bruins rallied as first Pavel Shen at the right point sent a tape-to-tape pass to Ian MacKinnon, the Bruins heavyweight who zipped a hard wrister short side past Adam Huska at 12:36 for his first goal of the year. Providence struck 60 seconds later and tied the game at two. The Pack’s Zach Giuttari wraparound clearing attempt on the right-wing boards went past Auston Rueschhoff, and rookie Edwards Tralmaks stopped it at the left point sent a low, accurate shot toward the net Huska made the save. The puck was at Huska’s feet, and the Bruins Oscar Steen had inside position on and jammed home his s goal of the season. The momentum had shifted like the wind of a Texas-sized thunderstorm. The wind carried Providence the rest of the game. The Wolf Pack had a chance to take the lead late and deflate the Bruns balloon, but Ty Ronning hit the post with 2:44 to go on the right-wing from 10 feet out, falling backward. A goal there might have made a difference. The ensuing play back up ice the Bruins scored the dagger shorthanded goal. Tommy Cross (Simsbury/Westminster Prep) made perfect outlet to Samuel Asselin who dished a pass to Jack Studnicka who then maneuvered through center ice entered the Wolf Pack zone. Then fed Vaakanainen the puck and he fired a low wrister stick side past Huska at 18:02 for his first of the year and a 3-2 Bruins lead they never lost. In the third period, the Bruins scored three more and pulled away from the Wolf Pack. James Sanchez made an early clear of a puck in the blue paint area, but persistent Providence Edwards Tralmarks worked the puck off the apron of the back of the net to keep the play alive. The Bruins expanded the lead to a two-goal margin just 2:03 into the period as Tralmarks put a solid shot on net Huska made the first save Oskar Steen skating by tap the loose puck underneath Huska for his fifth goal at 2:03. Then Curtis Hall Yale Bulldog was the recipient of a pass by Pavel Shen, who had stripped the puck from rookie Will Cullye and Hall used Patrick Sieloff as screen and fired his first pro goal by Huska at 9:47 for a 5-2 lead and the Wolf Pack could start warming up the bus. Then Samuel Asselin completed the second half of the game Bruins power surge smacking in a rebound of a Jack Studnicka shot in front and for his eighth goal at 14:38. The Wolf Pack last goal of the season came off the stick of Quinnipiac grad Alex Whalen with his second of the season shorthanded at 18:48 as Paul Thompson forced a turnover and Whalen had an empty net to shoot at as Vladar was stuck behind his net. NOTES: --Due to injuries suffered last night in the Rangers brawl filled loss to Washington and the Rangers playing in Boston tonight 40 minutes from Marlborough Tim Gettinger, Justin Richards and Jonny Brodzinski were recalled by the Rangers. Ex-Pack Vinni Lettieri of the San Diego Gulls second in game-winning goals in the AHL with five. Lias Andersson of the Ontario Reign is tops with three shorthanded goals. NOTES: -As expected, the AHL Board of Governors (BOG) in a conference Zoom call approved Vancouver’s relocation of its AHL team to Abbotsford, BC starting in the fall, and New Jersey relocates Binghamton to Utica and will play as the Utica Comets in October at the Adirondack Bank Center not as the Devils as expected. Utica announced a new 10-year agreement with New Jersey and planned to open their season on October 17th, marking the 34-year anniversary of the first time AHL hockey was played in Utica. According to Abby News, the Vancouver Canucks have entered into an agreement in principle on a five-year agreement to run the Abbotsford Centre. They will be paid a $750K-C to run the building, with the city be responsible for capital maintenance and repair costs. The first AHL Abbotsford team, the Heat affiliated with Calgary, had a supply fee deal and, after five years, was paid by the city $5.5. million to exit the deal halfway through. Expect Binghamton to play in either the ECHL, FPHL or go dormant in the fall. -The league did not deal with the potential of the name and logo change in Bridgeport to become the Bridgeport Islanders. They may drop the Sound Tigers name and logo as their original 20-year lease and marketing setup expires; that was done by the late owner Roy Boe. Boe purchased the dormant Beast of New Haven franchise 30 days after it was mothballed, paying the Carolina Hurricanes the 2 million dollar franchise fee they required. He also signed a 20- year 20 million dollar lease in which he reneged on. Then was forced to turn the franchise over to the late Islanders owner Charles Wang instead of the non-compliance with non-payment of his required affiliation fee and numerous commercial debts with local vendors and sponsors plus employees that had accumulated in the first three years of ownership. The franchise values are now between $10-$12 million dollars. No news on a new lease arrangement at the Webster Bank Arena now run by OVG, but the team will likely stay there and a new deal will more than likely be announced sometime later this summer. -UCONN men's hockey head coach Mike Cavanaugh announced the team captains for the 2021-22 season. Seniors Carter Turnbull (Nanaimo, British Columbia) and Jachym Kondelik (Budejovice, Czech Republic) have been elected the team's captains for the upcoming season. At the same time, classmates Marc Gatcomb (Woburn, Mass.) and junior Roman Kinal (Waterford, Mich.) will be alternate captains. “I am so honored to have been chosen as Captain this year by my teammates. I believe this is the best group of talented guys we have had yet, and I am excited for the opportunity to lead this team to a championship this year,” said Turnbull in a press release. This will be the second consecutive season the Turnbull will wear a letter on his jersey for the Huskies. The senior served as an alternate captain in 2020-21. Turnbull played in all 23 games last season and was second on the team with nine goals. He finished the season with 13 points (9g/4a) and generated a team-best 95 shots. During his three seasons in Storrs, he appeared in 86 games with 23 goals and 21 assists on the ledger. Jachym Kondelik expressed his gratitude for the announcement. “I think being named a captain is a huge responsibility and an honor, especially because it is something that is being chosen by my teammates and coaches. I think we have a great group and that everyone on this team will be a leader in certain ways.” Kondelik, the big 6-5 forward, is UConn’s top-returning career scoring leader, having piled up 71 points in 91 career games as a Husky. He has scored 16 career goals with 55 assists and is a +7 over his three seasons. This past year Kondelik was second on the team in scoring with 22 points coming on four goals and a team-best 18 assists in 23 games, and after the season, he was named to a Hockey East Third Team All-Star. Marc Gatcomb, a versatile big forward, will be a big part of the leadership quartet for a full college hockey season next season. “I am honored my coaches and teammates have given me the opportunity to represent the University of Connecticut at this high standard. I’m grateful to be alongside three great leaders and excited to get things started this fall.” Gatcomb, like Turnbull, took the ice for all 23 games this past season, finishing the year fifth on the team in scoring with 12 points, posting six goals and six assists. Over his three seasons, Gatcomb has played 88 games and has 25 points on 14 goals and 11 assists. Roman Kinal, who has battled through injuries twice in his collegiate career at UCONN, seems a perfect fit to have a letter on the left side of his jersey. “It’s a huge honor to be chosen as one of the captains by the coaching staff and my teammates. With a team full of leaders, we have something extremely special here at UConn. I’m looking forward to getting back on campus to compete for a national championship.” After being forced to miss all of the 2019-20 season due to an injury, Kinal made his return to the Huskies defensive unit this year and finished with six points (1g/5a) in 16 games and was a +6 for the season. His lone goal on the season provided the game-winner in a 2-1 win on the road at New Hampshire. He has played in 50 games in two seasons with 13 career points (2g/11a) and 49 blocked shots. -In other state college hockey news, long-time Quinnipiac assistant coach for the last 13 years Bill Riga was named the new head coach of the Holy Cross Crusaders (AHA). Former head coach David Berard stepped down in April and was named the associate athletic director for men’s and women’s hockey at Providence College (HE) on Monday. Berard, a Rhode Island native, is a PC alum academically and athletically was a UCONN assistant in 2012-13 during their AHA years under the late. A year before, Mike Cavanaugh was hired. Berard’s son Brett plays at Providence College and is a NY Rangers draft pick. His other son Brady plays for the US National U-17 Team is a PC commit for 2022-23. -Quinnipiac will play host to a long-time national collegiate powerhouse, North Dakota, on October 22-23 at the People United Center. -Junior goalie Strauss Mann (Greenwich/Brunswick School) is forgoing his last year at Michigan (Big 10) and going pro to a yet unnamed team. That makes 69 players from Division I to sign North American pro deals and a total of 74 players Division I and III to sign. -Scott Morrow (Darien) de-commits from North Dakota (NCHC) and graduates from the Shattuck’s St. Mary’s Sabres (MNPREP) and will be at the newly crowned national champions UMASS-Amherst (HE) in the fall. The right-handed shot is expecting to go in the first two rounds of this summer’s NHL Draft. -Three more college transfers, two school transfers in Griffin Loughran from Northern Michigan (WCHA) to Michigan St. (Big 10) and Trevor Zins from St. Cloud St. (NCHC) to the brand-new Division I program, St. Thomas (MN) University (CCHA). Then a grad transfer Sam Sternschein heads from Penn State (Big 10) to Boston College (HE). He is the fourth grad transfer for the Eagles. That makes 56 school transfers and 45 grad transfers. -Bad news for the University Alabama-Huntsville, who fought off program elimination last year with the help of its most famous graduate, ex-Pack/CT Whale, goalie Cam Talbot had their conference application to the new CCHA conference turned down. So, now they are waiting to hear about their AHA conference application. In the meantime, the program is shutting down till they find out their conference status. -Ex-Pack Marek Mazanec makes it official and switches Czech Republic teams leaving HK Hradec Kralove heads to HC Ocelari Trinec (Czech Republic-CEL). -Former Sound Tiger David Ullstrom, who played for three Swiss League teams this year, EHC Biel/Bienne (NLA), HC La-Chaux-de-Fonds (LNB), and HC Davos (LNA), is close to returning to his native Sweden and signing with HV71 (Sweden-SHL). -Another ex-Sound Tiger Jamie Fraser was talked out of retirement and signed another one-year deal with ESV Villacher SV (Austria-IceHL) and will again be the team captain. -Ex-Sound Tiger Olivier Labelle switches teams in France from GHC Bordeaux in the French Elite Magnus League to HC Mulhouse next season. -Ben Smith, (Avon/Westminster Prep) is going from Adler Mannheim (Germany-DEL) to EHC Munich (Germany-DEL) next season. 10 Reasons Restaurant Franchises in Ontario Are Profitable
Start gaining high profit by investing in restaurant franchises in Ontario and manage food shops and restaurants of your choice with full franchisor support.
Plenty of restaurant franchises in Ontario offer excellent opportunities for entrepreneurs seeking profit. Managing a business is made easy with franchises thanks to their easy-to-use system. Both experienced and inexperienced entrepreneurs benefit from such companies.
Entrepreneurs nowadays want less risk when investing their money. Having access to a business with a solid foundation and a proven working business model is a fantastic opportunity for people who want to get into the food business.
With Ontario's vibrant and active community, it’s easy enough to put up a restaurant or food shop and attract customers. The great thing about popular restaurants and brands is that they’ve already established loyal customers interested in buying from their restaurants.
What Is a Restaurant Franchise?
Franchise restaurants are businesses owned by a more prominent company. When you buy a franchise, you purchase the rights to run someone’s brand, but you don’t technically own the business. You must follow the rules and protocols when running these types of companies.
Everything from the menu, the service, and the business model is already predefined. All you have to do is to follow the instructions and run the business according to how it’s already run in other franchises.
Even though these companies are rigorous regarding how entrepreneurs should manage the units, it has a lot of advantages. One is the tremendous amount of support that the brand gives you. They will provide you with training, support, and assistance regarding supplies and marketing plans.
Reasons to Invest in Restaurant Franchises in Ontario
Deciding on the franchise you wish to buy can take time and effort. Before you choose a brand, you should familiarize yourself with them. It also helps to know the culture of the brands and what products and services they offer.
Below are some reasons why restaurant franchises in Ontario are often successful and profitable. When it comes to Ontario, there are countless popular restaurants to franchise and plenty of opportunities to grab.
Having a Competitive Market
Ontario is known to be among the top-ranked places where the business climate is excellent. The location also has more streamlined regulations and low energy pricing. That’s why investors start-up businesses there owing to the low-risk investment climate.
More Value for Multi-Unit Restaurants
There has been growth with franchises open in more than one location. Plenty of modern franchises are multi-unit, successfully establishing their brand and presence to more people. It’s all about taking advantage of a proven business model and the ability to open franchises in more than one location.
Major Markets Are Easily Accessible
Having a base in Ontario means reaching out to about 450 million customers in North America. The transportation infrastructure in Ontario is one of the best, which means that you cantilever products and services efficiently and conveniently.
Suppliers Are Easy to Find
For a restaurant franchise to work, you must have regular and quick access to suppliers. Ontario gives you the option to access more than 200 agricultural commodities in the local area. That means you can access fresh ingredients throughout the province.
Stable Marketplace
Ontario is considered the most efficient North American hub for global businesses. Entrepreneurs interested in opening successful franchises can take advantage of the market's diversity, activity, and stability.
Fast-Growing Food Industry
The food industry is steadily growing in Ontario. The area has become one of the best places to generate future income, especially for restaurant franchises. Compared to other business franchises, restaurants are one of the most successful.
The Variety of Customers
It’s worth the risk to start franchises in areas that have variety when it comes to customers. There are smaller franchisers that are forced to yield when they are faced with limited customers. However, if you operate in an area with diverse customer tastes, it’s easier to cater to a broader palette.
The Population Likes to Eat Out
People love going out to eat in Ontario, and it grows each time new people visit the area. Those who move in and arrive for a holiday can be considered potential customers. One of the main reasons people like eating outside is that they don’t want to cook at home and prefer more convenience in their food options.
You Won’t Run Out of Franchise Options
Owing to the diversity in population in Ontario, you won’t have problems picking a restaurant franchise. Since plenty of people in the population have a variety of tastes, you can choose specific cuisines and still have customers entering the restaurant.
Generate Better Income
Ontario has a good business climate that contributes to generating higher incomes. You are in an area where food choices are plenty, the marketplace is reasonable, and you have easy access to your suppliers. Opening up a franchise and finding yourself successful with a good amount of revenue is possible.
Choosing the Right Brand
How can you choose the right brand to work with when you’re interested in franchising? The decision depends on what your preferences are for food. You could go for popular restaurant names or niche food companies if you plan to cater to a specific crowd.
You can always attract customers in the Ontario area. For entrepreneurs who need more experience in the food business, franchises are the best option. Some brands might look for those with experience, but it’s not a heavy requirement for most companies.
Less Risk and More Profit
Go for a brand you’re most comfortable with or are most familiar with compared to others. Knowing more about the brand will make it easier for you to adapt to its rules. Remember that running businesses like these means everything you do is under their supervision.
Since there is a lesser risk when running these restaurants, you won’t have to worry about losing your investment or profit. Franchisors will make sure to give you the support and the training that you need to improve your sales.
The business models for these kinds of businesses are already tried and tested. The central branch well accounts for everything from the supplies, staff training, marketing, and equipment. That’s why it’s always the best option to buy restaurant franchises in Ontario that you genuinely like.

“"Family-owned and family-run" Agnew Foods in Kingston, Ontario owns 15 Tim Horton's stores. It employs over 500 people at sub-$15 wages with a meagre benefits package for full-timers that employees have to pay into. It is the second largest private sector employer in Kingston, a city of about 140,000 or so (the Startek call centre is first with only a few more employees).
Seven or eight years ago a court case made average Tim Hortons franchise owner profits public: $265,000 per store each year. A new franchise store is estimated to cost $1 million investment to open.
Going by these greatly dated figures, Agnew Foods is pulling in just shy of $4 million in pure profit each year - and that is most likely on top of generous compensation.
Agnew Foods runs a virtual monopoly in Kingston with only a handful of competing Tim Hortons - most of them corporate-run. Not only that, but it is the single strongest franchisee in town of any fast food chain, meaning it is most likely the dominant in the local market.
Companies like this are the result of the franchise model: a competitive market over time gives way to fewer competitors. In Kingston it has reached the point where there is no chance in hell a new Tim Hortons franchisee can start up, and corporate is unlikely to award such a franchise because it makes no sense in terms of distribution of capital, labour, resources, etc. It is quite easy to see how the geographic spread of the Agnew Foods Tim Hortons stores is designed to cover every major avenue, intersection, interchange, etc.
The franchisees are the frontlines of capturing local and regional markets so corporate can build bases of operations to carry out the same quest for market dominance at the provincial, national and international level. Restaurant Brands International, the parent company of Tim Hortons, owns Burger King and Popeyes Chicken as well. I can't reasonably speculate on the specific strategy of RBI, but there is no question about the company's general goals: profits through market dominance.
Where does this leave a low wage or minimum wage worker at Tim Hortons? Their labour operating the food processing factories, shipping the goods, and serving customers is where all the profits are extracted and flow upwards through the franchisees to corporate. Whatever technological transformations - greater factory automation, touchscreens, mobile apps - they still retain the power to bring RBI to a grinding halt if they withdrew their labour.
The anti-$15 propaganda from employers and fed constantly by the mainstrea media, the cuts to benefits, the scaremongering, bullying, and propagation of fantastic myths about hard work, laziness, education, social status, "lifestyle", race, gender, etc all serve to beat down people, divide them, redirect anger sideways or downward, and undermine workers from building solidarity on the basis of common interests.
The task for anyone who sees the potential power of worker solidarity and identifies it as a strategic power capable of transforming society and destroying the profit system, is to intelligently, patiently, and relentlessly work to build that solidarity and power.” - quoting from DN about the mimimum wage increase and Kingston, Ontario, Tim Horton’s franchise

Fresh Ontario Real Estate Agents - So You Are a New Ontario Real estate professional Licensee, Now What?
A new Ontario kopar at newton condo agent, wow, how exciting! Now what? Chances are you are probably still flying high together with excitement after all the hard work and study you just went through. Time to take a well deserved break before jumping into the realty sales game. An opportunity to think about things like what kind of properties for you to specialize in, what kind of Brokerage to be part of, and a good moments to review and list some old and new aims. Now that you have your passing marks, and you took precious time off to celebrate, a decision to join an Ontario real estate Brokerage firm needs to be made. This is a requirement since you need to be employed by a Brokerage registered with the Real Estate Council in Ontario or R. E. C. O. You will prepare a new registration with your employer and your employer (realty Brokerage) will also fill in its section and authorize same. All these forms with your fees and dues payable to R. E. C. O. will be sent by either your body or your new employer. Upon successful qualification, based on the advice you provided on the application, you will be issued your fresh Ontario real estate license certificate. There are many different types of real estate Brokers plus Brokerages to work for in Ontario. Variations among them including, residential vs commercial and/or industrial and leasing, clinic expenses, commission splits, services provided for you, training, property for your desk and phone, franchise office vs third party etc etc . One main difference which is vastly unnoticed by many new realty agents starting out in their professions, is whether the real estate Brokerage is a member of their regional realty board. The difference is vast since learning to be a member means that all registered agents with that Brokerage should be members as well. Being a member entitles the agent a large number of beneficial privileges and services but it also comes at a twelve-monthly cost. If the Brokerage is not a member then the yearly price tag is avoided by the Brokerage and all its registrants and no services or privileges given either. Here are some ways you should consider: 1 . In Ontario under the R. E. H. O. rules and regulations, you must be registered with them through an Ontario Brokerage within 1 year of passing your final test. If you fail to do so, you will have to start from "scratch". Therefore , deciding upon an appropriate ought to be whether to jump in as per the simple steps that follow or park your Ontario real estate permission and hold it active with a Brokerage that provides economical "keep your license active" service. If you decide to park any license by holding it active, you can do so indefinitely subject to the Brokerage policies. When you decide to take your current license off hold then all you need to do is question to transfer it to another Ontario Brokerage of your decision. One more thing, if you park your license, make sure it will be a calendar month to month contract to ensure flexibility. If you are asked paying a yearly membership or parking fee, inquire whether they have other options available for you. 2 . Decide what type of properties in Ontario you want to sell/trade. Residential homes and condo rentals, investment housing like apartment buildings, industrial buildings, business oriented properties, office buildings, leasing etc 3. a) Dependant on your decision in step 2, interview the Broker/Owner of a very few real estate Brokerages in Ontario that specialize in that particular field since they will be able to assist you in the "know how" of that decision. Learn about their support, and commissions payable to you as well as learn about their office policies. Compare them to the other Brokerages you interview. Pick the Brokerage the fits in with your personal goals. 3. b) Depending on your selection in step, you may or may not require the services of your localized Ontario real estate Board. Most active residential salespeople would like to be members of their local Board because the multiple listing service could be extremely beneficial in sales. However , some commercial sales agents elect to be registered with a Brokerage that is not a member regarding any Board. Commercial is often a field where agents grow their own purchasers for their in house listings and prefer to market or lease commercial properties without the assistance of other sorts of agents from other Brokerages through the m. l. utes. system. If I lost you here, sorry... make sure you consult the Brokers you interview to explain the pros and negative aspects. You may get a different view from each Broker. As a fresh Ontario real estate agent, Licensee, you may want to consider taking it slow before you'll jump in and incur all kinds of expenses right off the start. It may prove you well to initially join the Ontario realty Brokerage firm that will allow you to hold the registration or license there with them at a low cost prior to deciding to go full out with a franchise Brokerage or perhaps any other Firm that provides all the services that you will eventually need to have in your career. In the real estate Brokerage world this is even known or referred to as "park your license" or "hold it active" with a non board member Brokerage through Ontario. Park your license and holding it busy does not only apply to new Ontario real estate agents. There are Brokers out there that provide this "parking" or "holding" real estate entitlements for all registrants including Brokers, associate Brokers, Realtor, revenues rep's, husband and wife real estate teams where there are 2 the necessary licenses active etc etc . If you had previously done your own homework and have already selected the Ontario Brokerage you would like to join and be employed by, then great, jump in utilizing gusto and make it happen. For the many new realty graduates out there, taking the slow road may be a more effective way to ensure you make the right decisions for yourself. It is remarkable how many well intentioned people decided to become a real estate agent on Ontario with a long term career in mind only to have who dream cut short. The expenses that will be introduced to your account in this field can be shocking especially if it takes a while prior to notice some commissions coming in. Give yourself a preventing chance. It really is a great business to be in right into your old age. Your just around the corner from receiving that certificate (real residence license) in the mail that you have worked so hard just for. Shop around for that Brokerage and interview at least 3-5 Offices/Firms. Jump in with a full service real estate Brokerage through full real estate board membership or park your certificate for a while and take your time doing your due diligence. The choice is your business opportunity.

Franchise Restaurant Pros and Cons That Are Worth Knowing
Know the pros and cons of buying a franchise restaurant to see if this type of business ownership will work for you and give you the kind of profit you want.
Anybody can buy a franchise restaurant if they have the skills, experience, and money. Restaurant companies are like any other business where you need a starting capital or investment.
As an entrepreneur, you want to invest in a business that will give you much profit and a good return on investment. Franchising allows you to work in a restaurant business under a contract with the franchisor. It’s where you manage and operate the business inside and out.
Franchises give you access to everything that you need to run the restaurant. New entrepreneurs will find franchising easier than putting up their businesses for the first time. All you have to do is prepare the initial investment.
What Makes Franchise Restaurants So Popular?
Franchise restaurants are popular for entrepreneurs because it’s easier to scale the business without too much risk. Even though there is always a risk in business, having a big company back you up could help.
Being an independent owner, you’ll want to access all the support you can get. Franchises are known for offering support services and resources to assist franchisees in kickstarting restaurants in various locations.
There are fewer risks and liabilities with franchising which is why entrepreneurs have an easier time scaling the business. Plenty of large companies offer a franchise, but not all famous companies do so; you must choose carefully.
Franchises: Pros and Cons
Before deciding whether franchising is the best option, weigh your pros and cons. You must understand what these companies offer and what factors could affect your final decision. For many entrepreneurs, franchising is the quickest way to gain profit and grow as a manager.
Pros
Brand Reputation
Buying a franchise means you now have the right to use the brand to generate sales. Branding is always part of the contract when you sign an agreement with the food company. With a brand reputation, you are easily recognized and can gain loyal customers' attention.
Better Organic Marketing
Good marketing is always crucial for any business. Nowadays, more and more competition is popping up in the food sector, and you need a good marketing plan. What you want is organic marketing, as it can translate to sales and profit.
Organic marketing happens when news of the restaurant reaches prospects in the most natural way possible. It's free, the most effective, and the most challenging marketing strategy to execute—successful marketing branches out to more business opportunities and sales in the future.
Improved Control of Resource Allocation
When expanding through franchises will take a significant amount of resources. With a franchisor to assist you, it’s easier to develop and improve your restaurant unit. Some franchisees handle more than one restaurant unit, and franchisors allocate resources to help the former begin operations in multiple other shops.
Low Cost on Inventory Prices
Inventory prices are always tricky and can be very costly for independent business owners. Thanks to franchising, you can easily access inventory discounts and lower costs since you run a franchise.
Quick Financing Opportunities
Most public and private lenders trust franchise businesses. They will likely give you access to higher amounts of loans because they trust your source of income. You won’t have problems finding financial resources to improve your marketing or sales projects.
Cons
Zoning and Code Issues
There will always be zoning and code issues for some locations. Before you put up a restaurant in certain places, sort these out. Consider looking into your city, county, or state codes in advance.
Make sure you won’t run into any of these issues because they are expensive. Not only that but fixing these issues also takes time and would delay your plans to open a restaurant in your chosen area.
Shared Business Control
Even though you have bought a franchise, complete control is still on the franchisor. Remember that you only purchased the rights to the usage of the brand and the products, but the business itself is still under the franchisor.
You cannot make decisions or changes independently and must always listen to the franchisors. Any control you have over the business needs to go under the higher-ups, and they will also require approval.
Royalty Payments
Depending on your contract with the business, you must pay royalty payments on time. The frequency of costs could be yearly, or you need to follow what’s on schedule in the contract. These payments are used for business operations and advertising projects.
Stagnant Back-End Responsibility
It can be challenging for some to stay in the same responsibilities for a long time. When you manage a franchise, you can’t completely control the operations. However, you are assigned specific tasks that you have to do to keep the restaurant running.
These back-end responsibilities include restaurant construction, machinery provision, picking the location, menu designing, and even creating marketing plans. It becomes challenging when you don’t have full access to the business operations, as franchisees are only given limited access.
Lack of Business Innovation
There are better places for innovation or changes than franchises. Even if you’ve bought the rights to the franchise, you can’t easily change anything. Many big companies don't want any change to their brand; if you ever suggest one, getting to the higher-ups will take a long process.
Why Would You Still Want to Run Franchise Restaurants?
Now that you know how franchise restaurants work, why would you still want to buy or invest in them? A good reason would be that you love the brand and are interested in how the process works from the inside.
When there are food companies that you’re interested in, the best way to learn about their business culture and practices is through franchising. You get access to resources and unlimited support from the brand itself.
Knowing how their business model works is one of the most valuable aspects of being in a franchise. These business models are tested and proven to be successful and thus give you a significant advantage by directly working under them.
The important thing is finding the brand you’re interested in managing. Know your potential customer base and be aware of the pros and cons you might face with the business. Every franchise restaurant has its pros, and it’s always important to be informed before you make a decision.

Feature: USL to Buffalo?
Early in the morning on November 19th, 2019 it was announced the USL had granted conditional franchise rights to a group of two Buffalo-associated developers. The yet unnamed club comes with the principle condition that the developers complete a 10,000+ seat stadium in the area of Downtown Buffalo. The earliest the local group expects the team could be fielded is 2023. The following is a comprehensive feature look at what Men’s Pro Soccer coming back to Buffalo means from the facts to the scenarios of what could happen come 2023 and beyond.
The Facts
Two articles and two statements were released before 9 AM yesterday morning. The Buffalo News released two stories on the matter, one was written by Jonathan Epstein detailing the business side of the deal. Epstein is listed as a business reporter for the News so the second article, the companion piece, was written by the Paper’s chief voice on soccer, Ben Tsujimoto. Both articles convey a lot of the same information but for the purposes of the blog you’re reading, one that often discusses soccer in nearby Rochester, NY, the Tsujimoto piece discusses more. But before diving in let’s look at those two statements.
United Soccer League Headquarters, or more accurately the USLChampionship.com Staff, issued a statement at 8:30 AM restating the details and the main contingency of the potential new franchise being a soccer-specific stadium to be built along with the associated economic feasibility studies. The most important part of this statement, other than confirming it by way of an official USL HQ source, is the giant “IF”. As the Buffalo News articles laid out: Buffalo will be awarded a USL Championship franchise IF a soccer specific stadium (likely of at least 10,000 seats) is built. The USL statement reaffirms what is apparently the projection of the investment group being granted the conditional rights that such a club would probably begin play in 2023 at the absolute earliest.
The second statement and fourth related article posted on the very fast news morning yesterday was from FC Buffalo. The amateur soccer team just reached their ten-year anniversary having been founded in 2009 and remain, at least until this potential professional USL franchise comes to town, the highest level of Men’s competitive soccer in the Buffalo area. The owners of FC Buffalo (Joshua Batten, Scott Frauenhofer, Donny Kutzbach, Ray Siminski and Nick Mendola) spoke excitedly of the potential for a soccer specific stadium in the Buffalo area while reiterating their own commitment to Buffalo: “We need your continued support now more than ever. This club has always been for you and will remain so.” More on the FC Buffalo angle later in this article.
The conditional USL Championship rights were granted to local developer John H. McClutchy Jr. and his Connecticut-based partner Denis Penman as part of a group called JHM Sports Enterprises. The Buffalo News articles indicated the JHM Sports duo will go about looking for a suitable location for a stadium facility capable of holding 10,000 people with the potential for retail and other forms of development in the surrounding area. When asked about the potential for public funding McClutchy said “…that will have to be dealt with… as a possibility” and reiterated he has been involved in public-private partnerships in his 30-year career of development in the region. In Ben Tsujimoto’s Buffalo News Soccer article on the announcement he revealed the developers have “…already identified four potential stadium sites either in – or in close proximity of – downtown Buffalo.” When I asked Tsujimoto for more detail on the geographic parameters of the rights the ownership group was granted he responded “The developers said specifically Buffalo and not the wider WNY. Penman said they’d be aggressive connecting with southern Ontario, too, but they don’t have jurisdiction there.”
For those who may not be aware the United Soccer League (USL) is two leagues at the moment comprised of USL Championship at what the U.S. Soccer Federation considers the Division Two level (just beneath Division One which is Major League Soccer) and USL League One at the Division Three level. With USL rapidly growing the whole organization is sometimes referred to as USL HQ while USL Championship is USLC and USL League One is USL1. While this structure is meant to emulate the English system in the view of USL HQ it lacks many of the competitive structures that define that system most notably Promotion and Relegation between leagues. The USL operation here in the States also has territory rights in the deal McClutchy and Penman were granted. That gives them the right not just to a potential franchise but an exclusive one within a geographic area. In this case that area is strictly the greater Buffalo area where their potential club would be entering in 2023 at the USLC level.
Impacts
This begins the section of the article that is primarily educated guesses and speculation. To begin with there have been questions about why a 10,000+ seat stadium would be the prime condition on an expansion franchise. Such infrastructure is commonly viewed as something of an insurance policy on the franchise. Even if the club itself fails, with the stadium being there the potential remains for the growth of soccer. The emphasis on soccer specific stadia is also the trend right now with Major League Soccer although at that level state-of-the-art NFL stadiums have been used as work-arounds for certain new clubs. That trend combined with what is being seen across professional sports in North America, the general movement of sports venues to downtown cores as a means for economic revival, is likely the formula USL HQ discussed with the Buffalo investment group.
Buffalo is also something of a safe case for this approach. Pegula Sports and Entertainment (PSE) owns the NFL Buffalo Bills and NHL Buffalo Sabres as well as the City’s NLL franchise. PSE has gone through a concerted urban renewal project in Buffalo’s downtown including Harborcenter, Canalside and more work on the way. Buffalo Sports fans are not foreign to the idea of going downtown for sports consumption although the NFL stadium remains out in the distant southern suburb of Orchard Park. This year PSE has begun the process of studying for the potential construction of a downtown NFL Stadium for the Buffalo Bills. Such a project is in the earliest stages of investigation but while State funding channels have made cooperative overtures to PSE, the local and county funding streams have spoken in less excited terms about a publicly-funded stadium. To be very clear: at this time there is no connection between the JHM Sports Enterprises Ownership group and PSE but speculation connecting the two will likely intensify.
The next consideration in this vein is the existing sports fanbase in Buffalo. In all the statements from USL HQ and the Buffalo Ownership group there was citing of the sports culture in Buffalo. Not only do the NFL Buffalo Bills do well enough to have a waiting list for season tickets, the NHL Buffalo Sabres and NLL Buffalo Bandits do well enough in the downtown indoor arena that their financial health is rarely in question. Moreover, Buffalo has a rich soccer history going back to the 1980s that included two indoor soccer teams including the Buffalo Stallions. There is also an avid supporters culture for soccer in Buffalo’s bars and pubs around foreign clubs and the National Teams. On top of that there is a vast network of children’s, collegiate, adult amateur and fully amateur soccer in the area. In the past considerations toward domestic pro soccer in Buffalo would struggle to unify these different elements without an independent soccer stadium in the City. Yesterday’s news stands to change that.
Of course the avid soccer fan in Buffalo might tell you about FC Buffalo. The amateur side has developed in the National Premier Soccer League for a decade, the league where costs and barriers to entry are low enough to allow on-the-fly innovation and growth at a grassroots level. FC Buffalo has benefited from being the only game in town to the point of luring a German club team to town for their ten-year anniversary. The owners of the club restated their commitment to the community at every turn and their product as it exists right now is an authentic soccer product though it is not “professional” by the sanctioning framework USL HQ adheres to and the U.S. Soccer federation promulgate. Where FC Buffalo ends up in this is purely a matter of speculation at this point but there are other test cases to look at.
In 2020 Nashville SC will enter Major League Soccer. That process began with an NPSL club, not unlike FC Buffalo, giving way to a short-lived USLC team. Greenville, SC, Statesboro, GA are examples of similar scenarios where fully-amateur sides were or are being supplanted by USL clubs. There is no perfect test case for Buffalo but in many other scenarios the amateur club struggles if they do not directly partner with the new USL side. Again, this is all speculation at this point but its worth noting Buffalo is a significantly larger city than those last two examples with more proven sports acumen in the financial support metrics. There is also the acute possibility the NPSL club could be acquired and elevated to become the USLC side. FC Buffalo’s future given yesterday’s announcements is yet to be written and will be determined in large part by the local reception for the potential USL franchise and how it affects them. When it comes to the long-term success of this USL Franchise there is a somewhat similar bellwether an hour down the Thruway in Rochester, NY.
The Rochester Rhinos were founded in 1996 into what is now the USL Championship. At the time it was called the A-League as Major League Soccer was founded that same year. The Rhinos were wildly successful in their early years. Given the late 1990s was a very different soccer landscape in this country they played in Frontier Field, the City’s then-new Baseball stadium until moving into a downtown stadium in 2006. That new downtown stadium was built with state and local money to entice Major League Soccer to elevate the Rhinos to the top-flight. For a myriad of reasons including financial ruin of the original owners and a growing discomfort with the neighborhood around that stadium, that MLS push failed and after a decade of attendance decline the Rochester Rhinos went on hiatus in 2017 and have not fielded a team since. The Rhinos took advantage of a fragmented US Soccer system in the late 90s and early 2000s to win a U.S. Open Cup and three league titles. They would capture one more title in 2015 before they were bought by their third ownership group the following winter.
How much does the Rhinos story have to bear on USL Buffalo? A whole lot or not at all. The arrival of a club in Buffalo could spell the final demise of the Rhinos if they do not return from hiatus before 2023. For Buffalo’s purposes starting out with a soccer specific stadium could help to acclimate a consistent fan attendance depending on where said stadium is built. Due to the aforementioned comfort Buffalonians have with going downtown for their sports at least one problem for the new club could be averted. There is no way around the fact that USLC Buffalo will come into a much more organized American professional soccer structure than the Rhinos did in the mid-1990s. If it is 2023 at the earliest a Buffalo franchise comes on the scene they could have even more stabilizing league structures in place. The continued hunger for downtown development colors the local business scene and might help shepherd along the arrival of a new soccer team. To directly address the reception of such a club however is a different undertaking.
Reception
As mentioned before, soccer interests in Buffalo are very diverse. While there is a European soccer supporters culture alive and well in the greater Buffalo-Niagara region there are also large immigrant populations from soccer-playing countries. Domestic soccer in America is a fraught endeavor, however. While we have accomplished three levels of marginally stable professional soccer leagues from the governing of those leagues to the national teams all the way down to how US Soccer funds the youth game is in a state of legal conflict. Many readers will recall the Equal Pay lawsuit US Women’s National Team figures initiated this year. That’s only the tip of the iceberg as the US Soccer federation is involved in between 2 and 5 major legal filing and has been very short on good press coverage since the U.S. Men failed to qualify for the World Cup for the first time in thirty years back in 2017. A federation election early the following year brought on zero reform and even in the best of times domestic soccer can be a highly contentious debate topic.
But what does that have to do with Buffalo? How will Buffalonians receive a professional soccer team? This news is as recent as yesterday so time will only tell; but I decided to ask around and one Buffalonian provided her input on the news in her own unique way. Shelby is a native Buffalonian and avid fan of some of the City’s other sports teams. Namely she is a huge fan of the Buffalo Sabres hence her twitter handle @vanekatthedisc0. She responded to the news in real time and went as far to say her USL Championship loyalty will remain with Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC in spite of the potential new soccer club coming to her hometown. Shelby says her husband follows several other professional leagues including the French and Mexican top flights and MLS, but she only really follows the USLC.
Shelby is 28 years old and has a sentimental connection with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC. She first saw them in action against the Rochester Rhinos in Pittsburgh. She said she was aware of FC Buffalo, but her time involved with the Riverhounds supporters group, the Steel Army, really enticed her and made her a fan to stay. When asked why she would support that club even if a hometown team came along Shelby repeated a common feeling among many young fans of the domestic game in America: “…soccer has always been a tough sport for me to watch and couldn’t hold me interest. I’ve been to a lot of Riverhounds games with my husband when we are in Pittsburgh. It’s exciting Soccer.” Like many fans of the domestic pro game the key maybe seeing it live. Perhaps more so than with any other professional sport in America soccer depends a lot on fans seeing it live. This might be part of McClutchy and Penman’s plan in spearheading their arrival in the City with a new stadium.
I also asked Shelby for a couple ideas for USLC Buffalo’s eventual name. She came up with Buffalo Stampede or the Buffalo Bolts. Personally I like Bolts better than Stallions or any of the past names for Buffalo Soccer teams because bolts is evocative of the City’s flag, a design reference that no other pro sports team in Buffalo has utilized. No matter what its called there will certainly be more news and speculation coming in the weeks, months and years ahead on the topic of USL Soccer coming to Buffalo. What are your thoughts? How do you feel about a 10,000+ seat soccer stadium coming to downtown? Are there other clubs at that level you feel strongly about or would like the Buffalo group to follow the example of? Will you support such a soccer club if and when it comes to Buffalo? UttaroSports Plus has soccer content on a monthly and weekly basis on a myriad of other topics. There is even the soapbox if you want to be a guest writer for the blog. Follow me, Andrew Uttaro, @UttaroSports on twitter to keep abreast of Rochester Soccer news and more Buffalo Soccer news as it arises. How a Quebec factory town transformed itself after a GM closure in 2002
BOISBRIAND, Que. — On a suburban tract where a General Motors assembly plant once churned out Chevrolet Camaros and Pontiac Firebirds, Sami Bizri steams up another low-foam latte.
Earlier this year, the 24-year-old became co-owner of a Presse Cafe franchise, which sits in an outlet mall in Boisbriand on a one-square-kilometre stretch north of Montreal. The site also hosts hundreds of new housing units and a gleaming industrial park.
“People have more money here, from what I see, from the cars coming in, coming out,” Bizri says, as a pair of customers stroll toward the Golf Town across the parking lot.
His franchise provides catering up to three times a day for neighbouring manufacturers such as Abipa, a Quebec aeronautics maker founded two years after the GM plant closed in 2002. Workers from the Elopak milk-carton maker drop by for croque monsieurs and macchiatos.
Bizri doesn’t remember the shutdown and the 1,300 layoffs, or the concerns it triggered over jeopardized livelihoods and regional economic health. But he says the community seems to have weathered the storm.
“Everybody talks together here,” he says, surveying the bustling coffee shop. “It’s business meetings, it’s students studying, it’s communities coming together.”
In the wake of GM’s announcement that it will shutter its assembly plant in Oshawa, Ont. as part of a massive restructuring effort, experts point to Boisbriand’s transformation from industrial outpost to mixed-use development as both a model of regeneration and a cautionary tale.
“Closing assembly plants is not unusual. And the economy manages quite well,” said Dennis DesRosiers, an auto industry consultant.
“Are there any negative remnants from GM closing its their plant in Quebec? I’d say no. It may have been good, in fact.”
Prolonging the life of a factory despite lower efficiency and declining demand comes at a cost to both workers and corporations, he said.
“For decades, they kept plants open they should have closed — the one in Montreal being one of the best examples — and ended up going bankrupt,” DesRosiers said.
“Now they’re making tough-ass decisions about what plants need to stay open and what plants need to close,” he said, pointing to Oshawa and four other GM plants in the U.S. slated for closure as part of a shift toward electric and self-driving vehicles.
The Boisbriand plant, also called the Sainte-Therese plant, sat 500 kilometres from the web of assembly operations and parts makers that stretches from Windsor to Oshawa, adding to its transportation costs and placing it outside the southern Ontario auto supply chain.
“The writing was on the wall.”
Not everyone sees Boisbriand’s evolution as a success story — at least not an easy one.
“I think it was a critical loss for the region and for the workers,” said Christian Levesque, professor of employment relations at the Universite de Montreal business school. “After that, many of the parts suppliers disappeared in the region.”
Beyond pocketbook problems, some workers faced the challenge of trading a multi-generational identity rooted in steel and smokestacks for one lodged in glass-and-stucco shopping centres.
“For these workers, this is not a GM plant; it’s their plant,” Levesque said of the Boisbriand and Oshawa employees. “They’re losing a sense of what they are.”
The restaurants and home decor stores that supplanted the 36-year-old factory yielded numerous retail jobs, but they typically lacked the robust wages and benefits enjoyed by unionized auto workers.
Boisbriand, like Oshawa, sits next to a large city, which may mute the impact of a closure. But governments should do more to foster an ecosystem through tax breaks, educational programs and partnerships between companies and institutions to attract auto sector players and “make our locations sticky,” Levesque said.
“We do a lot of assembly, but we don’t do research and development. That’s one of the dangers in Canada’s auto industry.”
In 2002, Quebec’s aeronautics, truck and train manufacturers took on some of the Boisbriand workers, said Unifor research director Bill Murnighan. Others were near retirement age and received full pensions, while more than a handful took up jobs at the GM plant in Oshawa.
“That meant pulling up all their families and leaving the city they’d lived in for so many years,” Boisbriand Mayor Marlene Cordato said.
Worker resentment was all the keener due to a $220-million no-interest loan by the provincial and federal governments to revamp the plant in 1987, she recalled.
Cordato, a city councillor when GM made the announcement, remembers struggling to find a viable path to revive the plant site. A provincially backed economic mission to Europe to recruit car makers for the facility came back empty-handed.
“They didn’t find anyone. It was a hard time for car builders. So we had to change our view,” she said.
The city changed the zoning and courted developers to help produce a vast outlet mall, the city’s eighth industrial park and more than 800 homes composed largely of townhouses and low-rise apartments — with 500 more units in the works, the mayor said.
The process wasn’t quick or smooth.
Construction — still ongoing 16 years after the plant shutdown – halted for a year and a half following the 2008-09 financial crisis. But the site now generates taxes worth 16 per cent of the municipality’s $64.5 million budget, roughly the same percentage as GM before it closed, Cordato said.
“GM was part of our history, so it was very hard when it closed down. But I think we’ve made a good change with what was given to us,” she said.

Can my mom have two cars under her name?(insurance)?
I am turning 16 soon and i would like to purchase or lease my own car.. Of course i will pay half of the insurance and as much of the lease price as i can... However, before i do anything... I would like to check a few things.. Is it possible for my mother to have two cars under her name/insurance while I am also registered in her insurance? I told the insurance guy that he is a roofer so that was a main thing he wanted me to make sure we had. The insurance guy laughed and made a little joke about it. So now, 7 years later we had hail damage and guess what.. my house does have full replacement value and all our property inside has full replacement value everything but the roof. Hmmm..imagine that. Is it necessary to buy Rental Car Insurance even though i have my car insurance policy with me?
I have a car and have taken Auto insurance for it. Now my question is if i take a rental car, then my auto insurance policy for my car covers it or i need to take separate insurance for the rental car? When i took the auto insurance policy, they have taken my car details and its present in the insurance card also. If i need to take insurance for rental car, what type of insurance do i need to take excluding my auto insurance policy coverage that applies to all cars? Also if i am driving someone else car, will my insurance cover if there is any accident i have made?""
Car insurance while deployed...?
My husband is in the military and is currently deployed overseas and I had a question about his car insurance. It does have a loan out on it so that requires us to have full coverage on it normally...I was wondering that while he is deployed and since his car is not going to be driven (there is no way I can drive it since it's a stick shift and I can't drive those lol) if we could lower the insurance on it. I'm just not sure if we'd be able to because of the loan...or does it depend on the bank/insurance company? Thanks for any info!!
How does the insurance company know what Annual Mileage I am actually doing?
I bought a car last Sunday from a private seller, but was not able to drive it home because of no insurance. The person kindly offered to keep the car in his garage till I get an insurance cover. Today I went to pickup my car, but that guy was not there, his friend was there to hand me the keys and drive back home. When I test drove the car it was 87k miles exact, now today when I collected it, it went upto 87,806 miles, +806 miles extra. The seller is not answering my calls, the only thing worrying me is that I quoted my Annual Mileage up 6000miles, but already my car raked up 806 miles in one week. Please help, and don't abuse coz I am already down being cheated? Why bad things happen with do-gooder?""

Life insurance - can policy owner change % allocation after death of insured?
My sister has a policy with NY Life where she is the policy owner.. AND is 50% beneficiary with me. My mothe passed away 2 weeks ago.. however my sister tried calling NY Life to change the % to her benefit, 70/30. Bottom line my sister is cheating me out the insurance money. Can this be done post death? I've always thought once insured has died changes can NOT be made. I may be wrong..... Any comments or suggestions?""

Can my insurance company get away with this?
My payment was due November 20th and I sent the check on November 3rd. At the time, I made several checks, you know, paying bills and I didnt notice but I sent my insurance check to a Charity (I have a little boy that I sponsor and every month I send a $20 check) and the Charity check to the insurance company. Well, apparently my insurance company cashed the check and cancelled my insurance without letting me know. The only reason I know my insurance was cancelled is because the Charity returned my $300 check and thats when I realized my mistake. When I called my insurance, it was already cancelled 5 days prior and even though they cashed the $20 check, that wasnt even made out to them, they refused to reinstate my policy. I had to make a whole new policy and set up for them to take the money directly out of my checking account. My question is, is this fair? Did I just get screwed out of my money?""
