We should not gossip or spread rumors about others. Gossip is enjoyable to the one who hears it and becomes more desired and more ingrained in them, which is bad! We should also not enjoy spreading gossip about others, but love everyone as ourselves and not want to do things that would hurt them. I think it’s also good for us to stop anyone trying to share gossip with us so we don’t become involved with it either.

Yesterday morning I was at the salon, and I ended up in a meaningful conversation with the stylist. It ends up that he had been through a painful divorce last year. The conversation started when he discovered I was on a 4-month sabbatical. He said, “What happened? Did you get hurt?” I responded, “Yes, but probably not what you think…” And I told him my story. He is from Puerto Rico and is a PK (pastor’s kid). His parents pastor up in Aberdeen. Come to find out, he had recently moved to Rapid City to be near his kids. His ex-wife is here with them, and he has found that it has been hard to attend church with them because of the emotional tension. His story, as I listened, felt so much harder than mine. I felt profound compassion. And I felt like I wanted to offer some hope. So, get this: I didn’t need to share a scripture or make an invite. Juan, of his own accord, says he plans to attend Destiny the next time he isn’t working a Sunday. He heard how the Destiny family has cared for and supported me and said, “I need to check that out.” God loves people.
