"My feelings on" part 4: into the light once again and how it only takes a few gross tropes to taint what could've been a perfect piece of work.

I remember seeing the trailer for it so many times back in 2018 but I never got to read all of it since Tappytoons has a 30 ad policy just to get enough to buy on chapter. It's really good, wholesome families, sibling dynamics, a smart villain, and a magic system so the fantasy aspect wont be abandoned for cheap fanservice.

The protagonist used to be known as Alisa, 4th princess of Edenverre and was mistreated by family and servants with the exception of her younger sister, the golden child Marianne who is later revealed to be the mastermind behind the false accusations of poisoning Marianne Alisa faces. She is executed by her own family and comes back as the princess of the enemy empire Elmire, now known as Aisha she swears to one day get justice on her sister.

The revenge plot may be overrated but Into the light does it well enough that I could look past it. The politics and world building are fantastic and the element spirits low-key reminded me of gacha studio or genshin impact characters, and characters like Ashley and Mina aren't enemies for Aisha to defeat, they are people who make mistakes and are allowed to grow.

My favorite part of course is the villainess Marianne, she geninuely scares the hell out of me with her uncanny valley vibe she emits, there's always something so off about her and she reminds be almost of a monster who would star in the conjuring. Marianne has the ability to brainwash others and while I can't tell which, she either steals Alisas body or she causes an illusion affect to alter her and Alisas forms to the family of Edenverre (Really confusing but i like it) and while Marianne doesn't have as much screen time as I wished I enjoyed her while I could, because into the light treats Marianne with respect as an antagonist.

Marianne barely showing up may not even be a bad thing entirely, because while revenge is part of it, the story is built more on healing from your trauma and surrounding yourself with positive influences so it's reasonable that most chapters would center around Aishas powers and her family.

My only small gripe is a petty one but I'm pretty sure the author is an only child 😭. I'm not saying that Aisha and Ysis should be full on murdering eachother but their so unbelievably protective of eachothers feelings to the point of Ysis disliking the idea of any man wanting to marry his sister in the future, ive even seen some fans get concerned that it was going into a brothe-sister thing (especially when he was included as an option for men for Aisha to be attracted to ick)

As someone who has lived with 3 siblings, the excitement for a new baby sibling dies after 3 weeks at most. But hey, they do got a large palace, maybe Ysis just had the luxury of not needing to listen to his baby sister cry at night. I also don't understand why Ysis would immediately believe that Aisha was a reincarnated soul that could remember her past. Like I know he loves her but if my sister started to tell me she was the executed princess in a past life I'd be more concerned.

I wish I could say that was the only thing I didn't like.. unfortunately as much as I love into the light once again, it doesn't stay great for very long. That was my only small gripe because I have a lot of large problems with the love interests

Aisha is 14 and turns 15 at some point but for most of the series, she's a young teen and all her love interests are leaps and bounds older then her. Starting with the big one, Luminas, a 2000 year old king of light who meets Aisha WHEN SHES STILL A BABY!

"Damn, too early, ill give it 13 more years."

Not even the second male lead is safe, Veon is the youngest of the male leads and he's basically watched Aisha grow up since he was Ysis's friend. I can't remember his exact age but I know he is at least 20 which is just... that doesn't make it any better!. There's also apparently some dude named Arsen who's also at least 25 years old and one of Alisas childhood friends, I've heard people say he's another love interest but I haven't seen anything confirmed myself so I'll just hope my 2nd favorite character isn't going to be going after minors.

I'm starring to think the author has an age-gap fetish at this point.

Quick thing I wanted to bring up, a lot of the comments on this chapter have been uncomfortable not just with the age gap and pedophilic weirdness but also this dress. It doesn't look bad but it's built like a maternity dress and for some reason she looks pregnant in a lot of shots which just.. I'm gonna hope we're all just overthinking that one because the last thing this manhwa needs is implications that Aisha will get pregnant young.

While there is a lot of people who are rightfully uncomfortable with the 2000 year age gap, there is also a lot of people justifying it. "He treats Aisha well though!" "It was normal in that time!" "Your just being too soft! Let Aisha be happy!!"

Let me bring up some real history for minute.

This is Isabella of Valois during her wedding with Richard II, she is the youngest bride currently known about in the medieval era

Isabella was only 6 years old when she married her 29 year old husband.

This is Margaret Beaufort.

She was 12 when she got married to her 24 year old husband and 13 years old when she gave birth to Henry VII

And probably one of the more well known examples, Catherine Howard.

She could have been as young as 15 and as old as 17 when she married Henry VIII who was 49.

Now did these examples make your skin crawl? Did they make you feel disgusted? Well they should, just because it was normal in that era, doesn't mean it's all of a sudden fine. There isn't even the cheap excuse that Aisha is technically over 20 given her mental age since Alisa died at 14 and Aisha is very clearly still mentally a young teenager.

Luminas and Veon are definitely nowhere near the personalities of men like Henry VIII but that also doesn't make it okay either. Especially when Veon basically watched Aisha grow up and she's his friends little sister! and Luminas knew her since she was an infant. Would it be that hard for Aisha to at least be a young adult and not a 14 year old. Because it really feels like Luminas is waiting for her to be legal since he already tells her she's his ideal woman when she's still a 14 year old.

Conclusion: Into the light once again is a beautiful story about healing from your trauma and the writting and the characters are just amazing. But it all feels like it's backpeddled when it's so heavily romanticizing or just straight up ignoring the fact that Aisha is basically a grooming victim, the relationship is practically covered in glitter to make it look better, "Sure Luminas is 2000 years old and Aisha isn't even an adult but at least he's so nice to her and he teachers her how to summon spirits! He'll always protect her!" Because while Luminas will (hopefully) never hurt her. Real groomers absolutely will. It pushes the message that as long as the man who is old enough to be your dad is sweet to you and protects you, then it's fine if he has feelings for you. Intentional or not. A story about healing from trauma supporting relationship where ones a child and ones a god with a mature mental age to boot is kind of like when movie producers fucked up the original meaning of Lolita.

I finished my Merrick re-read yesterday!

I started with the idea of reading again the crossover books now that I have finally read the Mayfair Witches whole saga, so this is my thoghts on revisiting this book:

- This book should not have been a Vampire Chronicles book. It should have been a Mayfair Witches book, about the black Mayfairs and the alternate branches of the Mayfair family. It would have been a much better book imo because there’s so much story not told there?

- Like I found quite amazing how many powerful witches in the same generations we have here. It’s not the norm with the main Mayfair family, but it seems to be here. Merrick is a remarkable powerful witch; her mother Sandra and her sister Honey seems to have been powerful witches as well. Great Nannane was feared because of her powerful she was, and Oncle Vervain as well.

- Oncle Vervain takes me to another point; this branch of the Mayfair family seems to have powerful male witches all around. In the main branch, the only notorious male witch is Julien Mayfair; but here, Oncle Vervain is presented as a real powerhouse. His father and grandfather appears to have been powerful witches as well, and I found this bit so interesting.

- Other interesting thing I wish we had learned more is the relationship between Merrick and her sister, Honey in the Sunshine. The Vampire Chronicles don’t have a lot of sibling relationships, especially between two sisters (with the exception of the Twins, i think), so this one caught my attention. Some mutual envy and antagonism, but a powerful connection as well. Honey always haunting Merrick, Merrick making the murderer of her sister and mother go mad and kill himself in revenge... her methods here actually reminded me a lot of when Lasher made Lionel kill himself for the murder of Stella.

- You know, I don’t hate David Talbot with the passion that most Vampire Chronicles fans do, but he is such a boring narrator, it drags the book down several times. It was worst in my first time reading, but even now I knew what to expect, it is still bad. I do think he cares deeply for both Louis and Merrick and his love is genuine, but he’s also kinda of the worst. He’s very condescending both to Merrick and Louis and he's so oblivious to so many things it becomes annoying. Tho it is fun to see Merrick getting the better of him again and again and again

- I love the Claudia bits in this book very very much, especially her diary. I do believe the spirit that appeared was Claudia; I think it was coherent to what we know of her. I love the bits in her diary where she talks about loving and hating both Louis and Lestat in equal measures, but wanting to drag them to the level of misery that is her constant company. And she knowing that she could not get Lestat to be conivent in a plan to murder Louis, but that Louis could be convinced, even if it would kill his soul even further... I bet it hurt Louis a lot to read that.

- I’m sorry I can’t take the ~love story~ between Merrick and Louis seriously, spell or not spell. Even before the show, I guess it was always my headcanon that Louis is gay. That part where she says he has three big loves, one being Lestat, the other Claudia, and he blushes without saying the last one... lmao. Anyways in my head it is Armand.

- Love the part that Lestat comes back all Deus ex machina to save the day and Louis’ life. The book being narrated by David is a tragedy since we can’t hear Lestat and Louis’ thoughts, but Lestat love for Louis being so powerful to drag him back from his coma by shee force of will is a lot.

- I like Merrick Mayfair. A lot. I think she’s amazing. I hate the ending that Anne choose to her in Blackwood Farm so, so much. If the show includes her, I hope she’s given a different ending.

- I think it’s such a shame that the Talamasca x Vampire feud teased in the end of this book never came to anything. Come on it would have been such an interesting plot! (Or not since you know, Anne was known to drop storylines at a whim but. Still.)

well heres a long post!

afton wouldnt want you to abort, he would want to wait a few years before getting your child killed! he even actively tries to kill michael various times. hes collecting on that remnant.

i could see silco going either way. on one hand, silco loves jinx as his daughter more than anything and hes actually very dedicated to family, he even still cared for vander after everything he did. if you keep it, i think he would quickly grow attached. he would adore his new child and perhaps a new sibling who wouldnt hurt or betray her would be good for jinx, especially if your child grows up to have skills that match/compliment her own.

on the other hand, a baby would get in the way of his plans, he may want jinx to be his one and only. mostly i see him worrying about what jinx would think anyway. would she feel replaced and abandoned again? her sister hurt her deeply, would another sibling trigger that trauma all over? he might suggest abortion and keeping that a secret from jinx to spare her more pain, shes already been through so much.

i love what edwadbateman wrote about snape on the post. ill just screenshot it because i definitely agree. i could see him being very torn and wanting it aborted to keep from being as horrible as his own father. snape is definitely a complex one though, hes not very nice but there are plenty of moments where he shows he does care, there are some really good moments in hogwarts mystery if youve ever played. a lot of how he acts stems from the bitterness he feels about how his life has played out, maybe to have something so meaningful would soften him a bit.

killian is another one who is dedicated to family, his entire revenge plot is driven by having had all his underlings killed by destructive heroism. to have someone he cares about telling him hes going to be a father? he would be thrilled, especially since i headcanon him as being infertile after getting all those cybernetics. he went from a man with nothing to a man with a family he didnt think possible and he would do anything for that family. ive mentioned it before, but i think he would be a way of the househusband type. from terrorist to stay at home dad. rip to anyone who harms his baby though.

paolo seems like a no. he doesnt seem like he wants kids or like hes good with kids. hes got enough things to deal with. the howlers are his family and at least these ones dont require diaper changes or feedings at 3am.

so to recap: afton wants to keep it and have it die later on. silco is a coin flip. snape leans towards aborting. killian leans towards keeping. paolo is a definite abortion.

[PART 2.] some of my short reviews about completed webtoons i read.

6. A CHANCE AT LAST

somehow i can relate to this manhwa. born & growing up in poverty is really hard, esepcially when you onlt have your family by blood and no one from your family (re: parents' siblings or anything) helped you.

this manhwa is goo on portrayed how hard it is to those who are struggle to escape the poverty when you are coming from poor family, when you worked yourself too hard but you barely escape a bit from the poverty. on the other hand, when jueun volunteered herself for her sister for being adoped by their so called long lost father, the writer portrayed the careful jueun when she's in the battle war with her 'family' really well, understand that she doesnt know exactly how the family treated her sister (at first before she knew) or how far her new family can go since they are a wealthy family.

the writer also tell us how jueun understand it wont be easy to fight against the riches or conglomerates where her current 'family' is part of that circle, they might can do anything to banish jueun and her family in instant. i can say they understood the assignment for being realistic not making jueun as somehow too powerful eventhough she finally know how to fight them like in slice of life/real life-based webtoon.

i will say it is a worth reading if you like slow burn revenge & the main character being realistic. though its good, sadly in the end they didnt tell us about hyejin (older sister) while she's the main reason why jueun got her second life. the English one is completed already!

7. DENOUNCE

this is another masterpiece! i thought the webtoon will give much romance despite the storyline talking about a custom sneaker-maker who wants to try again. i can say the storyline is sat set and well-written.

this webtoon really showed us how harsh the world is, especially in work environment. even your closest ones can be your biggest enemy ever. i learned alot about work life, friendship, and obviously more about sneakers!

romance tipis-tipis is a good choice and this webtoon did it. if you love sneakers or want to know more about sneakers, especially custom sneakers, this is for you.

IDN webtoon is complete already, but the ENG still on going.

8. WHO'S MR. PRESIDENT?

one of best local (indonesia) webtoons i ever read! if this story was written in full english and not using indonesia-related name for the characters, i 1000000% believe this is coming from foreign writers.

though i guessed it right for the osis president & villains, the storyline, art, plot twists, characters; all well-written. the writer had stated that it was an open ending for the last chapter but still, when i read the finale chapter i feel like it was a bit rushed.

the sudden skipping time and the after conflict resolution like what happened after the 'fight' between the villain and the headmaster made me a bit disappointed because i wanna know what did happenednto the villain (head master's friend).

if you like mystery, plot twists with slice of life materials (including comedy, romance, school life, etc), this is another good choice.

the english one is on full chapter aka complete already 👍🏻

I definitely think with out possessive and protective Wednesday is she will eventually let go of her control on Tyler. Even though if she stills likes him she wouldn't want to because in her own mind it could be her own way to protect him. But she'd realize he'd need his own freedom.

I definitely think enids mom will be against Ajax because he doesn't fit the role of future mate. Enids mom wanting to control her life and future pack. Just because we got little hints with Enid saying something how interspecies usually never works or can't work or something. Basically, it is forbidden, maybe at Nevermore or just with her mother. Her spineless dad won't do much. I feel like her brothers might back her up. Enid stood up for herself and broke off from their pack, becoming a lone wolf

Gomez and Pugsley would definitely be amazed at him pulling one over on Wednesday. I think Gomez thinning donovans comments are compliments toward his daughter, which is funny asf. But honestly, so Gomez to do. If Tyler has to hide out with them for a while or Wednesday, takes him to her home to torture but her family grows attached and asks him a million questions & maybe morticia tells him more about his mother & what happened. I definitely think the Addams would welcome him in with open arms and Wednesday would slowly not want to take revenge or feel pity for him.

Donovan & Tyler better have a redemption & growth in their relationship. A lot of people think he would turn his own son in but I think he would never. Trying more on protecting & finding his son more than anything.

I need the galpin family either together or at some sort of peace. If Fran isn't alive. Tyler and Donovan find out what happened to Fran since I feel like Donovan truly doesn't know. Sending her off to williowhill, desperate to get her help since he doesn't know what to do. And maybe something happened there and he's just so broken that he can't talk about it to tyler.

Literally Enid & Wednesday both give off sibling vibes even down to annoying tf out of each other, splitting their shared room down the middle because they want their own side, hating the others hobbies, disgusted at each other for either a bubbly personality & dark personality being too much. "And they were roooommates" "Oh my god they were roommates🤣"

She blinks around everyone, lmao. Xavier isn't even in the running anymore. That boy she either glared him or was annoyed by his presence. I hate that she saved him from the arrow.

I feel like they are normally very chill and cool people. While being taught in class at Nevermore to not show much emotion or how not to stone someone or themselves. He's so sweet, and I love it. I hope they don't ruin him. The whole stoning part I SCREAMED NO. because Enid got so sad, and he didn't mean to hurt her. I really can't wait to see Bianca & her mother's side plot. Maybe divina and Kent will find out and will help her out with her terrible mother and her crazy ass cult

I hope vampires aren't like.. 100 years old but look like a teenager.. that's just weird. Because technically divina is dating a 100 year old girl. And that'd be kinda weird. ( and yes I want them to be together so I'm saying they are🤣)

I hope we get to see more Eugene he's funny asf. Hope he still gets kinda jealous but in a funny way at Ajax and Enid because if I remember correctly, they were working on homework or something, and Eugene called Enid 🤣I just love Eugene's small comments about liking Enid or just pretty girls in general🤣 made me laugh so fuckin hard.

I do like that morticia & Wednesday are opposites just like Wednesday doesn't want to be like her mother.

Lucas definitely needs his own little story, especially with his father dead. Maybe Tyler reconnects and tells him he's sorry. That he should've been there.

Exactly, fandoms are just so toxic. I don't want to talk about politics or reality. This is supposed to be a way to get out of that! And talk about fanfic, ships and shit. Like wtf

I keep having to scroll and it hurts my hands. Somethings goin on with my hands rn idk wtf it is though.

Can we talk about how Wednesday was in the most none triangle love triangle ever? Like, Wednesday and Tyler were doing their own thing meanwhile Xavier was just kind of there. Now if Wednesday liked Xavier too that would be a proper triangle, but that’s not what played out. She was always upfront with him that she was there for Tyler. He was just guy on the side who had a thing for a girl who’s into someone else. It was never a triangle. It almost confuses why anyone calls it a triangle at all.

Sorry for the wait!

I was hesitant to start this anime, because I’ve heard some things that didn’t paint the anime in a good light (I heard about the perverted stuff out of context. And I’m pretty sure I’ve seen the manga covers have naked women…then again, could be another series?) but, thankfully, this is pretty good so far…! I’m glad that it’s not like how I expected it to be.

The sexual stuff (and the obsession with it I heard that Denji had) isn’t really as bad as I thought and I can make do with it, since it’s not just fanservice and actually has a meaning in the plot…It makes me uncomfortable still, almost quit at ep 7 lol, but I binged it with my cousin who had already finished, so it’s fine lol.

On characters/

Denji is actually good! I thought I’d hate him due to rumors, since I’m not comfortable with focusing on sexual stuff, but it’s not anywhere close to being his main motivation and, unlike certain other protags (Meliodas I’m looking at you), he does not sexually assault people. He just acts like traumatized, yet horny 16yo boy. Which he is.

My main reason for liking him is obv everything else about his character. The kid’s had a hellish life and his main goal was to have a “normal teenage life,” which is only possible now bc he lost his pet, and even now that things got a lot better, his current situation is still shit. Not that he realizes it, ofc.

Makima is interesting because she’s an awful person who’s also in the main cast’s side. Manipulating people, mostly her subordinates, (Denji having it worst bc girlie. Do not make moves on a minor so he can do whatever you want, whether you’re not interested in him doesn’t matter when I’m p sure it still counts as grooming) with anything she can do in order to achieve her goals, that woman is terrifying not only because of her powers (that power reveal made me scared for the baddies, even when they’re 0% unsympathetic!) but due to her incredible talent for manipulation, especially since she’s always so eerily calm…! Gaslight, Gatekeep, Girlboss.

Power is really great, love me a funny morally wrong demon who’d be a dangerous enemy if she didn’t have to be on our side. I love her story with the Fiend’s one soft spot (“Miauzin” in Portuguese, idk english) and her similarities with Denji with both their pet and also…the shared braincell. The sibling vibe. I think how uncaring and ruthless she is even to her Allie’s can be interesting.

Aki is great, don’t know what to say but still. His thing with grief and having his loved ones die off leaving him alone, the isolation within the main trio carrying that theme, his search for revenge ruining his chance of healing and having a good life forever…The scene where he realizes he has two years left and still hasn’t come close to achieving his goal…OUGH!

Kobeni is definitely the most relatable person in the cast for her realistic reactions to all these crazy situations, you can’t blame her for acting Like That in ep6/7 because you know you’d have done it as well. Himeno said she had great moves, the girl barely hesitated on trying to kill Denji and most importantly, she specifically said her contract was a secret, so her great fighting made a lot of sense. Hope she gets to kill her parents someday, because. girlie…it’s better to cut off your family than to be forced to work for their sake like this.

I wanted to like Himeno, really did, but…Maybe the way she acted with Aki is forgivable, since from what we known, she only fell for him and got him to smoke after he became an adult. But there’s no excuse with how she acted towards Denji, it’s so creepy 😭 the moment she heard she was underage the girl should have broken off the “deal,” and she deffo could have done that because back then she was sober enough to tell he shouldn’t drink. And that’s not even mentioning Everything Else in ep 7. Plus, offering to hook him up with Makima, an adult….😬

Everything else about her was so promising and good, but I can’t look past that at all. Which is why I’m glad she died so soon, so we can see her impact the narrative yet not continuing to behave Like That. Or else I’d have quit the anime lmaoooo

Okay initially I was not planning to making this post because I just wanted to dive into S2 without thinking about scenarios but I needed to let this one out.

The more I watched the trailer, I realized that there's not much space for the supposed love triangle. Like, think about it. We only have 6 episodes, and they will be like, maximum 55 minutes long(this is like, THE most minutes I'm sparing, they will be shorter than 55 minutes). And already we have so many plot points to explore in the meantime:

Wilmon, is that even a question? All the "Wilhelm tries to win Simon's trust back" stuff

Honestly I've seen very few people talking about the Sara-August situation. Like, judging from the trailer, they will take up a significant amount of space in the story. Secondly, there's just so much to explore and establish about their dynamic. Like, we don't know where any of them stand regarding their situation. Will one of them use the other? What do they even feel about each other? Will they actually develop feelings for each other and change one another in some way?? Like I have a feeling all of their conflict will be a major storyline in S2.

All the "The monarchy controlling and abusing Wilhelm" stuff

August's arc as a character. Now that we know he actually regrets his actions, there's so much to explore regarding his character.

Simon and Wilhelm's individual journey as characters, their individual traumas from the events of S1 and so much more

Queen Felice's storyline(and I'm really excited for hers because we actually have very less idea about hers and it would be fun to explore her "embracing her true self" arc)

Sara's character arc because she will be going through a big change in her life living in the Manor House, and will basically go through a variety of perspective shifts throughout the story

The revenge plot

Marcus's role as a character

All the "how will Simon find out that it was August who leaked the video?" stuff

Sara-Simon situation, especially after Sara defending the very person who ruined Simon's life

A possible storyline about the Eriksson siblings' family trauma

And these are just the plot points we ARE aware of. There are so many plot points we have no idea about. What I think is that either Simon and Marcus would actually be friends and people would assume that they have something going on, including Wille(like it often happens in real life, two people who are good friends are often speculated to have romantic connotations to their relationship). Or it can be like a Wille-Felice situation in S1. Like, believe it or not, it was still a love triangle. Like, we choose to ignore it but Wilhelm and Felice did had a romantic setup to their dynamic in S1. And the story actually handled it well. Like, Simon and Marcus can be flirty and all of that and maybe even share a kiss??? But then it doesn't work out or they realize they're better off as friends or one of them do not have romantic feelings for the other. Like, I can't see anything else that can fit into the space in the narrative.

i said that last point in an ideal world where aqua separates his past life with this one. Because we know the context of the story, we know that they're not just aqua and ruby, but also gorou and sarina. to others, tho, they're just aqua and ruby. that's the perspective i'm trying to use.

when i said that aqua shouldn't go along with ruby's fantasies, i meant that he should have realized that he's not in a situation where he can treat her like sarina anymore. a doctor-patient relationship is very much different from a sibling relationship, especially if the patient was terminally-ill. this whole situation stems from them not realizing that they're family now, since the whole Ai and revenge thing took the forefront. true, what he would do would hurt sarina, but ruby needs to know that what she's doing is not okay. no one told her because people just thinks they're both weirdly obsessed with each other, like bro/sis-cons, which tends to get heavily exaggerated in media. (what ruby and aqua are doing, from an outsider's perspective, is an example of what they would see in a story, so it doesn't really cross their mind that something else is going on. or maybe they're not really taking it seriously for plot reasons, idk) only aqua knows the truth of the situation, so he has to be the one to break it to her. if anything, aqua is the perfect person to to do so because it's going to hurt her. she might not believe it if it was being told from anyone else. but from her dear doctor?

yeah, it's gonna hurt. there's nothing really to do about it. but if they want to keep living as ruby and aqua, aqua has to be the "adult" and speak up about it. the aqua and ruby we see now are just personas being acted by gorou and sarina, living their "perfect" life as the children of their favorite idol. (perfect in quotes because, well, their mom is kinda dead. so not quite as perfect, but they're working on that through their revenge plots.)

the thing about the murder-suicide plan is a good point though. it showcases that aqua knows what he's doing and knows its going to affect the people around them. the "gorou" part of his brain is making him feel guilty, and we also see that when he lets ruby act how she wants. (the actual kiss scene in the documentary is iffy because its for the revenge; would he have said something about it? or would he let it go for the sake of his plan?) ruby? she doesn't really feel any remorse. this second chance of life she has is letting her do whatever she wants, so of course she's going to do just that. she didn't have any good role models either, especially since she looked up to ai. (as much as I love ai, her behavior wasn't the healthiest. she couldn't even tell her kids she loved them until she died because of how the idol industry changed her personality. all the lies kept building up, and it was hard for her to distinguish between them and the truth) ruby always wants to be like her mom, and when she broke, her revenge utilized these lies in a harmful way, which we can see with how she manipulated the manager guy back when she first found out.

it's all about maturity, in my eyes. while aqua is mature enough to realize what he's doing is wrong and harmful, i don't think ruby quite gets that yet. because of this, she does things that people normally wouldn't do, like *glances at the chapter* you know. telling your brother you love him in a not so platonic way and then kissing him.

she sees aqua as gorou and not aqua, and no one is telling her otherwise because no one knows. for this to not get worse, aqua needs to step up and say something, even if it will hurt her. he has to talk to her as aqua and ruby, not gorou and sarina. aqua keeps thinking "he" will be socially dead, not really realizing that ruby is going to be as well. both of them are going to be socially dead if this keeps going on, and i don't think ruby's going to take that first step in addressing the situation.

Ch 143

i mean i think we all knew deep down the kiss was gonna happen based on the flow of the story but i think this chap reveals a lot about gorou and sarina

(uh warning this got a little out of hand so its pretty long lmao)

so.

i dont think anyone's completely in the wrong, but i definitely don't think they're in the right either. (not that i condone incest; its just that their motivations led them to this specific point. would the story have been fine without it? hell yeah. please i actually prefer it that way. but this is the direction the author decided to take it, so we have to take it as it is as a point of learning more about the character's motivations)

Let's first analyze sarina and gorou's relationship pre-reincarnation. I think I covered this in my last post where I rambled about onk, but gorou is doing a doctor thing where he "accepts" sarina's proposal just to make her happy. We learn in this new chapter that he basically catered to her every request, and that's what started that infatuation. we know from previous chapters that her bio family's shitty, so the only place she would get this love is from gorou. we also learn in this chapter that it's not actually a romantic love but a fanatic love, for lack of better terms. she sees him as her idol. does sarina even know what it feels to be romantically in love with someone? she spent her whole first life in a hospital, isolated from others her age. she spent her second life very curated and protected because of her mom and her future career; she couldn't really live a normal life. (we'll get back to this point later) all she knows about love is through her idols, so she's channeling it into (what she thinks is) romantic love for gorou.

gorou, on the other side of this, is an actual adult who had an actual life before all this, so he knows what a normal life is like. assuming sarina is one of his first patients, its obvious to see that he got attached, which is a very risky situation for scenarios like this. we see this attachment made her death worse, as he threw himself into following Ai to cope for her death. not gonna go too in depth about this here because, again, i made another post for this that i'll probably link at the end bc im referencing it more than i thought... continuing! he knows sarina doesnt have long left so he wants to do what he can for her, thus creating that "idol" persona sarina has for him.

we see in his regret in this new chap that he actually knows what he's doing and is aware of the consequences of his actions. ruby doesn't. she doesn't regret anything. as someone who reads a lot of isekai/reincarnation stories, its easy to joke that ruby and aqua are their old age + their new age, but that isn't necessarily true for ruby. sure, aqua is old and this could apply to him. but ruby? she didn't make it past 18 before she died. she's like,,, 13 times 2. double 13. she never fully developed in her first life, and she's developing in this current life. it's like a continue from where she left off. aqua actually was an adult, so he has all the knowledge and wisdom of an adult. why does this matter? shift your attention back to the concept of love for a bit. aqua knows what she's doing is bad and is trying to stop her, but the knowledge that she's sarina is making him automatically succumb to her wishes. a part of his brain, because of the trauma, still sees ruby as the sickly sarina he was caring for.

ruby is naïve. she doesnt know what love is. all the love she's ever been exposed to is whatever she saw online: idols. i dont even think she fully knows what the concept of family is. aqua is her brother? nope. aqua is the doctor she proposed to and now she has a chance to follow through like all the shows she's seen. she's closer than ever to him, so why give up the chance? even as ruby, she wasn't exposed to a lot of normalcy because of idol culture. she isn't able to learn about the difference between platonic love and fanatic love. we even see this with ai, who she sees more as an idol than her mom. the joy is in her idol being her mom, someone who's supposed to care for her. it's like shes living a fantasy made just for her. because aqua was so obsessed w revenge, he didn't have the chance to teach her anything, and it's not like he needed to learn bc he already knows. ruby doesn't.

aqua, as the one who understands these nuances, should have sat her down and explained things, but he didn't because of the trauma of sarina. ruby is ignorant and is treating things like a tv drama, now that her dreams as sarina can finally become true. aqua doesn't realize how serious ruby is about this because in his mind this is just a child playing house. ruby is like,,,, imagine you die and you wake up actually being sold to one direction. or whatever happens to you in your fav self-insert scenario/fanfic. idk a better analogy lmao but its like finally being able to play out your fantasies irl. she doesn't realize the real world impacts of her actions because, frankly, she doesn't care. she gets to live out her life as she wants. aqua was shocked after the first kiss with ruby because he realized then she was being serious, but he didn't speak out about it because, again, the trauma™. (we see him again uncomfy with the whole situation in the next page, but his lack of objection could be bc it's a scene in the documentary and he finds it more important to get revenge rn) ruby kissed him then because she purposefully created the mood like that so it would fit in the story she was writing in her mind.

so what does this mean? because of their shared pasts, aqua and ruby are put in this situation where ruby can do what she wants and aqua goes along with it. even if he knows its morally wrong, he can't bring himself to break ruby's immersion in all of this. BUT. big but. aqua shouldn't act like this. they're both capable of living out their lives as normal (barring the revenge and the whole idol stuff). he doesn't need to act like this anymore; ruby's not terminally ill. he's not a doctor. what he should have done was firmly deny her stuff he knows is wrong because then he can educate her about the reason why. as much as their personalities are inspired by their past lives, sarina and gorou are dead. they need to move on and live a aqua and ruby. (Harsh, I know, but because of this scenes like *gestures vaguely to the newest two chapters* happens. if aqua stood his ground and taught ruby about familial love and that what she's feeling is probably not romantic, i think this could have been avoided. but alas, we need it for the ~drama~)

“You already know my name, as well as my fate, and I have neither threats nor demands to make of you. I am at your mercy, regrettably, with nothing more to say. Shall we consider ourselves ‘introduced’? Or is there more you wish to ask of me?” You wonder, eying ‘Alcina’ with a bored expression. It felt odd to refer to her that way, even within the confines of your mind. She had been ‘Lady Dimitrescu’ for as long as you could remember; starting with your years in the village, and continuing through your months here at the castle. One day, perhaps, you would grow used to calling her by her first name. For now, you simply hoped to focus on other matters.

“Tell me of yourself, your past. Who were you before you came here?” Alcina asks, surprising you. What did it matter, now that you were stuck here? At first you shrug, avoiding eye contact, not wanting to open yourself up to her. But before long she’s placed a hand on your shoulder, applying just enough pressure to encourage you to speak. You win this round, you think.

“Somehow I doubt you’ll find it terribly interesting. I was born in the outskirts of the village, on a small farm, just like any other. I had a pet dog, went to ‘school’ with my neighbors, and spent my weekends volunteering with the church. The only thing you might not expect is that I lived outside the village for about a decade. Traveled for a while, never really staying anywhere for terribly long. Eventually, I got tired, and so I came back to help my parents with what little property they had left,” you explain, quietly. Being vague had been intentional, considering the nature of a few details. Did she need to know why you had left? Or that you had once revered Mother Miranda?... No, because if she learned that, it would not be long before she learned that you had changed your mind years ago. Something told you that she wouldn’t appreciate your lack of faith in her mistress. “That was six months ago, roughly. Barely got to spend time with my parents before I was ‘donated’ to the staff here.”

“Not many ever leave the village. Those that do rarely, if ever, return. How particular,” Alcina replies, giving a soft hum. There’s something in her expression that tells you she’ll eventually ask you to elaborate. For now, however, she seems content to move on. Internally you sigh in relief. “I suppose this is sufficient to sate my curiosity, for the time being. Now come with me, I’d like to introduce you to my daughters, to ensure that they understand you are… off limits.” With that said she stands, once more reminding you just how small and fragile you are in comparison, before heading towards the exit. You’re nearly forced to jog in order to keep up with her long strides. As she leads you through hallways, down a flight of stairs, and past several nervous looking maidens, she slows down the slightest bit, having eventually noticed your struggle. Admittedly, that’s more kindness than you would have anticipated. Perhaps she was used to adjusting her pace for her daughters?

Whatever the reason, you do appreciate it. Still, by the time you arrive at your destination, the castle’s library, your legs are feeling the smallest bit sore. Brushing off the ache, you follow Alcina inside. Then you’re taking in the sights, having not been here before, admiring the impressive collection. Glad I’m not responsible for cleaning this place, you think as you pass by dozens of filled shelves. Before long you encounter the three daughters. They’re sitting in a semi-circle, each with their own book, though they’re quick to sit up once they spy their mother. One by one they’re smiling up at her, not even sparing you a moment’s glance. Admittedly you’re glad for that. What good could come from their attention, especially when they don’t yet know who you ‘truly’ are?

“I’m glad to see you’re all in one place, my darlings. There has been a… development, of sorts,” Alcina says, speaking in the same tone one might use to address a faculty meeting. In a less intimidating household, it would have been much harder to hold in a laugh. Was this always how she spoke to her children? For their sake, you hoped not (though the concept was amusing). Regardless, it is at this point that the daughters notice you, with one of them looking intrigued enough to send a shiver down your spine. You’re pretty sure her name is Daniela, being the only one you haven’t met before today. A toothy grin spreads on her lips, and once you make eye contact you swear that she winks at you. This literally could not be any worse, you think, unable to stop yourself from frowning.

“Does it have to do with this little thing?” Daniela purrs, taking a step towards you. Instantly both Alcina and yourself are tensing up. While your soulmate shifts in front of you, an incredibly faint rosy tint to her cheeks, all you can do is pinch the bridge of your nose between two fingers.

“This ‘little thing’ is not your newest playtoy, Daniela. Rather, they are my-” she hesitates, disliking the way the word feels in her mouth- “soulmate. I expect the three of you to behave, understood? At the very most, you are allowed to prevent them from leaving the premises, but even then I expect you to remain gentle. Have I made myself clear?” Alcina asks. Now she’s not the only one blushing, as Daniela looks so embarrassed that you wonder if she’ll pass out. Maybe now you’ll think twice about flirting with everyone you meet, you think, remembering the various rumors you’ve heard about her. For a moment, part of you imagines what your relationship with her would look like, were you to continue ‘courting’ her mother. Could this be a moment you could torment her with for life? Get some cheeky revenge for all the maidens who couldn’t risk it? A lovely thought, though one soon interrupted.

“Of course, mother. We will not lay a single finger on them, unless we have no other choice. Right, sisters?” Bela replies, turning to her siblings with an expectant look. Neither of them seem terribly pleased, but they nod, each giving their own verbal affirmations. All three spend a few moments glancing you over, reevaluating you now that they know who you are, appraising your worth. It’s not hard to imagine that they all find you lacking- at least in comparison to their mother. “Are introductions in order? We’ve met before, but I hardly know anything about them. It would be… nice to properly meet the newest edition to our family.” The way Bela says the words makes you nervous, and the way Cassandra grins only worsens the feeling.

“If you desire such, I see no reason to forgo such a thing. Perhaps the three of you could give them a tour? I must return to my duties, and I doubt they have seen much of the castle, given their… former occupation,” Alcina admits, softly. Was this a confirmation that you’d no longer have to spend every day working yourself to the bone? On one hand you were somewhat relieved, but you also regretted the possible loss of your preferred coping method. Worse, were you really going to spend who knows how long with the dreaded Dimitrescu daughters? They were going to rip you to shreds, at least verbally, you were sure of it. How could you ever meet their expectations? If they were anything like their mother, you would never be enough to satisfy them. Or at least that is what you assumed.

“I’ve seen a fair bit,” you interject, awkwardly, hating the way it brings everyone’s gaze back to you. Alcina’s lips twitch, as she fights back a frown. Evidently she didn’t appreciate you countering her suggestion.

“Please, we insist,” Bela fires back, a pleasant tone covering her thinly-veiled animosity. “I’m sure we’ll have a wonderful time getting to know each other. You do want to learn more about your soulmate’s children, don’t you?” Something about the way she speaks makes you want to laugh. When you smile back at her, it’s without a hint of any placating intentions, rather a dewdrop of mischief. Bold of her to assume that you wanted to make her mother happy. After all, it was clear from her phrasing that this was a ‘test’, a ruse to ‘reveal your true colors’ to Alcina. But you were as uneasy about your part in this as Bela was, neither of you finding yourself a suitable match for Alcina. Despite the way she narrows her eyes at you, her mother is smiling again, glad that she had a way to keep you occupied for the time being.

“It’s settled then,” she says, moving to give each of her daughters a kiss on top of their heads. They giggle at the affection, looking rather proud of themselves. Then she turns to you, hesitating, clearly having the instinct to give you a kiss as well. Half of you wants to stand on your tippy-toes, expectantly, wondering if she’d do it (and how flustered it would make her). Instead, you pretend not to notice, accepting the awkward shoulder pat she ends up giving you. “I will see you this evening, for dinner. Do try to enjoy yourself. But don’t forget-” she leans in until her mouth is right next to your ear, breath tickling your neck- “behave yourself. I will not tolerate any tomfoolery, understood?” Alcina does not pull away until you’ve nodded, and you do not relax until the library door has shut behind her.

Except now you’re alone with her daughters. Wonderful.

Dealing with finances was not, to put it simply, Alcina’s ‘favorite’ activity. Although she employed someone to handle the majority of the paperwork, she made sure to go over it herself to ensure accuracy. There were many aspects to her business, being both legitimate and illegitimate, technically. One could never be too careful about their records. After all, failing to file tax returns had taken down Al Capone, of all people. Who was to say that such a mistake, or one in a similar vein, could not damage House Dimitrescu? Certainly it wouldn’t be enough to ruin them entirely, but it could lead to certain ‘nuisances’ bothering the village. At the end of the day, Alcina cared more about the impact it would have on Mother Miranda than anything else, even the possible decline of her household.

A nasty habit, really. Few knew the extent of her self-entitled devotion to the cult leader. The only bond that ran deeper was that she had with her daughters, who meant more to her than she could ever vocalize. Even then, she viewed them as a gift from Miranda, which in turn strengthened her love for the woman. Now that love leaked into everything she did. With a flourish of her pen, she signed away some of this month’s earnings. So what if she already ‘donated’ a large portion of her income to the village and its leader? Certainly this was a way to show the level of her devotion? Certainly Miranda would take notice, eventually? Praise her for it? Take Alcina’s hand in her own, thumb caressing her skin, eyes filled with a long-sought affection?...

The sound of passing footsteps brings her back into the moment, and Alcina stares down at the mountain of paperwork she’d yet to approve. With a deep sigh she readjusts her reading glasses, sets the finished document aside, then gets back to work. A part of her mind soon starts to drift to other subjects. To you, primarily. Would your affection be easier to gain? Steadier?... But could it, in any way, compare to Miranda’s? No matter how she tries to brush the thoughts away, they nip at her heels, circling her head like vultures. Only time would give her the relief she so desperately sought.

“So, don’t tell me you really think you’re my mother’s soulmate, right?” Cassandra says, somewhat grumbling, as you trail behind Bela. It’s less than five minutes into the tour, with the siblings having behaved so far, focused on actually showing you around. At her words, both her sisters started walking slower. Their gazes were still locked ahead of themselves. The way they positioned themselves, however, made it clear that they were listening. “Is it some elaborate scheme, hmm? Did you spend a dozen hours with the other servants, noting every last detail about her soul mark, before copying it? Do you really think that you’ll get away with this?” Well, ‘twas good to know who the most paranoid of the three were.

“Ah, yes, it’s all a great, horrible ruse. You’ve caught me red-handed, I’m afraid,” you chime, sarcastically. A hand goes to your forehead as you fake faintness. “I’m just so desperate to be scrutinized by yourself and your mother, to have my every movement watched, to somehow be less free than I already was. I simply… cannot… believe… that you saw through my bluff.” With that you give a dramatic sigh, pausing in the hallway to give Cassandra a judgemental look. If not for Alcina’s instructions to keep you safe, you’re certain she would have beheaded you on the spot. “I’m not claiming to understand the universe’s decision. But I’m also not giving up immediately, no matter how much the three of you scare me.” At that, Bela stops in her tracks, slowly turning to you. Instinctively you go to take a step backwards, only for Cassandra to catch you, holding you in place. Next thing you know, the oldest daughter is grabbing your head, staring you right in the eyes.

“Answer one question, and maybe I’ll make sure you don’t fall victim to some tragic, unfortunate accident. Can you see yourself loving my mother?” Bela asks, more intense than you’ve ever seen her before. Despite that, you don’t tremble, swallowing your fear long enough to reply.

“Honestly? I don’t know. She’s terrifying… and beautiful. Cruel to some of the maidens I’ve met… and loving to you three. I… I don’t know if I can love her,” you admit, gulping. “But isn’t that part of the point of trying? To find out? I am going to try, for both my sake and hers, to love her. To cherish her. What more would you ask of me? I cannot tell you how the days to come will go, whether or not your mother will enjoy them, or even whether she could love me. This is not a situation you can threaten into resolving the way you want it to. So let me go, finish the tour, and give me a chance. You owe your mother that much, do you not?” Soon enough the hands keeping you in place loosen their grip, and Bela turns away with a scoff. Honestly, you can hardly believe that your little speech worked. You aren’t given much time to celebrate, however, as the sisters quickly resume their walking. Before long, Daniela is speaking up between giggles.

“I like this one already.”

hi, just wondering if there was a chance of mayhaps a finn/sage centric story in the don't let me go series? i love that all finn's siblings are like "sage sucks" and finn is always "can't hear you over my being heads over heels in love with her thanks and goodbye" and they're my favorite mikaelson couple (followed by kolvina) so i'd love to see your take on them

So I can absolutely accommodate this, as I do like Finn and Sage as a pairing and am really sad the Originals didn't pursue this more. And I'm still frosty about how TVD did Finn and Sage, because Finn deserved happiness.

Frozen Winters

Finn was level headed, he would have to be because he dealt foremost with Russian aggressions on his boarders as King of Finland, and it was something which kept him grounded. He wasn’t the King people wanted, but he was the King people needed. Given the bizarre arrangement of his family, and their thrones, Finn was well aware of how he and his siblings were viewed and wanted. He was never the King anyone wanted, but he was the King they needed, and he clung to that.

Being King was rather challenging, and even after his little brother had taken three bullets saving him in the Frozen Winters, it was important to remember he couldn’t disappear as his brother had. Then again, Kol was Dahlia’s favorite, and he had been fighting in the Frozen Winters since he was ten, same as Finn, Elijah, Klaus, and Henrik, and Kol had suffered a massive betrayal in an assassination plot. Yes, Finn understood al of it, but he envied his younger brother’s disappearance.

Tonight though, Finn was at a state dinner, the treaty with Russia was tenuous at best, and meeting the Petrova Royal Family, the Tzar, it was important, if only for Finn to remind the Petrovas that his people could outlast the Russians. He still hated these events, he truly did, he wanted to just go home, and finish his book; he’d been attending all sorts of state and diplomatic functions lately, and he wanted a break. Not that it mattered.

Right now he was hiding at the bar, he could pass for everyone else, if no one looked too closely at him.

“Woo, let me tell you, it is cold,” a scantly clad, sultry red-head said as she siddled up to the seat beside him, smiling haughtily before she looked at the bartender. “A glass of your finest red!”

The bartender hurried off to get it.

Finn raised a brow at her brazen behavior, because she was being very loud, and drawing attention to herself.

“Sorry,” she was lying. “I just got a big promotion and got to move out of Germany to Finland!”

“Congratulations,” he said softly.

“It is!” she agreed. “That new Kaiser took power today, and we are…it’s ugly,” she grimaced.

He shrugged. Niklaus was a good king, he had the right mindset when he wasn’t spun upon on thoughts of revenge, and he was a brilliant tactition.

“You sound like you know him,” she chuckled.

Finn frowned, he hadn’t realized he was speaking aloud.

“Oh, don’t look ashamed,” she teased. “Kaiser Niklaus Mikaelson, Mikaelson, ugh, disgusting, he’s not even a child of that King, and yet he claims the name,” she sneered.

“You disapprove?”

“Mikael is a good king, for Scandinavia, he has proven it time and time again against the Russians, but Niklaus is our Kaiser Ansel’s son, not King Mikael’s, it is a disgrace.”

“But their mother hide his true parentage, and it was not known,” Finn stated softly.

“Bullshit,” she huffed. “He looks like our Kaiser, and is disrespecting us by not claiming us.”

“I would not look at it like that,” Finn said softly.

Honestly, Sera is truly showing her true colors, she threatened Satoru that she would take her life, if he doesnt take any responsibility. Like threatening to take your life is not a joke. And she has plans to take revenge tor y/n for ruining her relationship with Satoru…like they are married..it doesnt matter who was first y/n and Satoru are MARRIED, no matter what she will always be the mistress and if word gets out about Satoru’s affair and her maybe being pregnant, she will be labeled as a homewrecker, mistress, golddigger, and if people were to look into her background they will bring up her family debt. So basically no matter how innocent Sera think she is, opinions about her would always be negative. Its like how Camilla and Prince Charles affair was revealed, everybody hated them. Even till this day; even though Camilla and Prince Charles, were together “first”, Camilla will always be labeled as the mistress, both Charles and Camilla tried to have a “good image” throughout the, but people still dislike them and have the lowest approval ratings in the royal family lol. They are disliked due to how Princess Diana was treated and how she was truly loved by the public. I like how Naoya somewhat dislikes how Eula display her jewelry and how narrow minded she is lol. I cant wait for more Zenin interactions, especially Naoya what drama is he going to bring lol. And Toji, he is so sweet and caring for y/n. I cant wait for Satoru and Satoru’s dad reaction to naoya’s affair. I Did not expect Satoru to end his relationship and realize how important y/n To him in this chapter and I am glad that he is slowly growing, but Sera just got to ruin it with her own selfishness and not see the bigger picture🙄🙄🙄. Anyways, great chapter a lot of tea was spilled, but so many questions. I cant wait for the upcoming chapter!!! So excited!!!

Can we take a moment to realize how annoying Sera is? Like ik this entire series has shown it. But this chapter really brought that out? Like the entitlement? It's like she's trying to live that Cinderella lifestyle where she's from rag and riches and she gets the handsome, rich guy. And she wants Y/N to be the evil, ugly stepsister. It's like she has this idea in her head that she was born to be rich but she does nothing to deserve it. Even the way she treats her parents and sibling shows the entitlement. And yes I understand growing up in a poor home and then working in a place where everyone is supposed to be spoiled cuz their rich kind of sucks. But it's infuriating how she likes to play the role of Cinderella when she's just that one random lady in the ballroom that doesn't know how to dance and then falls over air. Like? Chill?Pls? The?Hell???? Her only reason for blaming Y/N is because she is rich, Sera is not. And that sucks, it really sucks. And as much as I hate Sera, I understand. Like. at first it was very easy to defend sera, because i UNDERSTOOD where she was coming from and why she was upset. i was able to put myself in her shoes cus ik damn well i’d be more upset, but that was in the beginning.

hello ! What's your top 10 HXH characters, and why do you like them ?

Hello anon!

Sorry for the wait! Here is my list so far!

1) Killua Zoldyck

I have explained why here and here there is an analysis of his ability and foiling with Illumi.

I love his growth and the themes he explores. His is basically the story of a child freeing himself from an abusive family. At the same time, he is also challenged not to leave said family behind (especially when it comes to his younger siblings).

Moreover, he is also called out on his tendendy to define himself through creating codependent relationships.

This is something I really enjoyed and that gave his relationship with Gon and his character in general more depth.

2) Alluka (and Nanika) Zoldyck

Alluka/Nanika does not have a very complex psychology nor an arc so far. However, the idea behind her and her thematic resonance is so great that I still adore her!

Alluka is a great example of how to write a symbolic and metaphorical character that is still important for the story.

A lot of themes are entangled in her. She is the child nobody wants and is very fittingly trans and mentally ill coded.

At the same time, Nanika’s ability is nothing, but the wish of a child to make her loved ones happy and a way to show how children imitate and learn from adults. It is a representation of conditional love taken to the extreme.

The way her story is solved in the Auction arc might have been underwhelming plot-wise, but it is perfect thematically. The fact that Nanika is not who Alluka is, but is still important for her and so must be accepted is a deep and wonderful message.

I am also curious to see how the theme of codependency linked to her will be explored in relation to her bond with Killua.

3) Palm Siberia

I love Palm!

She has one of my favourite arcs because it is so refreshing to see the stereotype of the yandere being subverted.

She starts as a mix of different female character stereotypes, but as she gets more focus she blooms into her own character thanks especially to her relationship with Killua.

I love that she is the one that ends the CAA!

3) Meruem

I think he has my favourite arc in the series and his is surely one of the best written (if not the best).

I love how he seems hateful and boring at the beginning of the CAA only to break the readers’ hearts at the end of it.

His growth thanks to his love for Komugi is great because he does not lose the root of his characterization. He remains prideful and competitive and it is specifically this that draws him towards Komugi aka his strongest opponent. Thanks to her he becomes able to appreciate life and humanity and chooses to give up his identity as King to only become Meruem.

He is an example of how a “redemption arc” does not really have to follow a formula and how it can simply be... a normal arc aka a story where a character grows because he is challenged.

5) Morena Prudo

Morena has appeared for like... one chapter(?), but she managed to conquer me thanks to her backstory, her nen ability and this:

I adore her! She is a child who has been refused by society and as a result she wants to tear the society down. She is clearly being set up as a foil to this arc’s major players aka Chrollo, Kurapika and Tserriednich.

Her power is also extremely interesting and already incredibly rich symbolically to the point that I have thought multiple times if I wanna wait or if I wanna start making a Nen and Characters post about her!

6) Chrollo Lucifer

I have discussed him multiple times, so you can just check his tag :)

Here are some metas.

Chrollo is like a devil that steals pieces of others’ identities because he himself is not sure of who he is.

This coupled with intelligence and powers, his foiling with Kurapika and his bond with the Spiders make him an incredibly interesting villain!

7) Hisoka Morow

Hisoka is a great example of how to write a joker character.

He is a man from nowhere and lacks any kind of backstory or root. This makes him perfect to play the part of the joker and so far... he has literally played that part in every arc he has appeared in.

There has been no time he had been completely loyal to a side he has joined.

He acts as a Spider only to fight Chrollo.

He helps Kurapika, but also threathens him.

He helps Gon and Killua in Greed Island, but hides he is working for Chrollo.

He assists Illumi, but lies to him and is about to betray him.

In the current arc he is, as per usual, a wild card.

It is precisely this that makes him such an interesting character to observe.

8) Kurapika

Kurapika’s arcs are among my personal favourites because of the focus being on politics and planning rather than pure fights.

At the same time, Kurapika is an incredible character and I am looking forward to see where his story goes in this arc.

He is self-destroying because he is unable to overcome the grief over losing his tribe and his family.

This leads him to make violence on himself, so that he is turning into someone he is really not.

His nen power is among the most interesting because of how complex and calculated it is and because it is clearly an attempt not to lose his morality to revenge.

9) Gon Freecs

Gon’s development in the CAA is heartbreaking, but incredible and it perfectly deconstructs all those traits that had been praised up until the previous arc.

Gon’s stubborness and willingness to overcome limits are why he is able to make it this far, but the CAA shows also how they can be dangerous and destructive for both himself and others.

10) Illumi Zoldyck

Illumi is hand down a disaster.

He is a terrifying foil to Killua, but also an entertaining character to watch.

I hope his relationship with Hisoka receives more focus because it is honestly hilarious and is strangely working for me :’’’)

I am going to rewatch one episode of ninjago a day until I ether give up or finish I will put my thoughts down as I watch it and rate each episode out of ten. I missed a day because I was busy all day.

Season 1 episode 5 can of worms

All the other ninja have legitimate reasons to be mad at Lloyd. But Kai is just angry over a video game score which I find hilarious.

They don’t blame Lloyd for this or say it wasn’t his fault they just say you can’t change what you did in the past but you can change your actions in the future. I love this because it’s avoiding the we forgive you it’s not you fault trope.

And rip high kai you will be missed. Also the venom just wares off for plot convenience. I wish they would have kept the gag going untill the end of the episode. It would have been hilarious

This episode was just as enjoyable as I remembered. The jokes were funny and Kai being high was amazing. There was a reason this was my second favorite episode from season one. Over all I give this episode a 9.5/10

warnings: reader is a lil sad but nothing angsty tho

summary: christmas was always an eager wait. less for the tree decorations, family dinner and the fuss of toddlers. more for your childhood best friend who you kissed under a mistletoe years back.

a/n: ahhh!!! I'm not completely satisfied with how this turned out to be. the inspiration was from a few christmas themed fics I read here and the movie ‘It's Christmas, Eve’. anyway this was my attempt though it's nowhere near christmas time. one of my personal goals is to celebrate a christmas like the west, the snow, the fuss and the commotion ;-;. Also I lost sense of time and space and this turned out to be 3k ;-;

“Cheer up it's christmas eve, sweetheart”, your mother chimes as she pours brown batter into little cupcake moulds.

You simply smile at her, the festive mood not really getting to you because of exhaustion. Uni was tough, and enjoying this Christmas when you know you have tons of essays due in a few days was hammering inside your brain every now and then.

“Is that chocolate?”, you ask, leaning your tired body on the counter where she is at work.

“And orange”, she smiles, turning around to preheat the oven.

“Where's Jin”. Though you hated the routinely flicks against your forehead, the absence of your big brother felt weird.

“He went with Jimin to get the Christmas tree”.

The mention of Jimin brings a smile to your face. His soft features and captivating grin filling your head. If there was one of the few things you enjoyed coming back to your hometown for holidays, it's chocolate cupcakes your mom bakes and Jimin.

His family are friends with yours after all. You, Jin and Jimin attended the same school until college and other priorities in life drift you apart. Though the bond must have rusted a bit, you can't deny the fact that you still have that crush which started somewhere in middle school, on a chritmas eve like this when he kissed your cheeks shyly under the mistletoe. Your friends and family, and even Jimin himself must have seen it nothing more than platonic, but you still find yourself relieving the moment in your head however crazy it may sound.

Standing up straight, you decide to fix your bed hair and complete the skincare routine before the said duo drops.

“Mrs. Y/L/n...”, Jimin softly kicks the back door. He is carrying one end of a huge fir, and your brother on the other end, grunting from the freezing snow outside.

“Oh dear place it right there”, you mother is quick to her feet helping the boys and doing her usual commentary on how well the tree looked.

Jimin looks more handsome than ever, especially with his nose and cheeks dusted in scarlet from the cold. He looks really huggable in his fluffy sweaters and red beanie. Jin is busy commanding around so you choose to sit back, a very typical sibling energy and the size of decoration boxes and the tree itself not really appetizing to your will to find any strength.

“Hey Y/n!”, Jimin stares back at your eyes in a split moment which has your lashes fluttering suddenly. You probably look like you are carrying a disease and right now you become very hyper aware of that.

“You alright? You look tired”, he comments. You feel his eyes carefully studying the black under your eyes and worrying his mind because that's what he is like. He cares about everyone and everything, has a heart so soft it hurts to even think about it.

“Jet lag...”, you say, “I'll be fine”. You shoot a little thumbs up on his way to reassure.

“Why didn't Jin get the tree earlier? It's Christmas in a few hours”, you dodge the focus around you and walk near in an attempt to closely examine the tree for no reason other than feeling Jimin’s eyes a little too long on you.

Your brother gets visibly annoyed seeing you start a very unnecessary talk. So he is completely obliged to shoot back with, “Because you were in charge of Christmas decorations this year but your lazy ass flew down here only yesterday”.

“You know I was busy with Uni!”

“Whatever”, he shrugs, getting back to the box of tree decorations. You feel a little bad seeing yourself not being helpful during a festive season. It felt like you were procrastinating on your responsibilities as always.

“Um...is there any way I can help?”, you ask softly, earning a mischievous grin from Jin and your mom fills in the answer.

“We need more baubles. Also I missed out gifts for Aerum and June, so maybe you can get them”. Now this was already tiring and you were not lying earlier either, the jet lag was still choking you alive. You wonder if the huge pile of stars and glitters beside your foot aren't enough but then maybe it's true because this is the largest fir you ever saw for Christmas in your house. And speaking of the five year old notorious duo, your cousins-- Aerum and June, you have no other option than to step out into the butt numbing cold and get something for the sake of not getting your brains eaten.

While you stand there doing these calculations, Jimin puts a two and two and immediately suggests to tag along with you.

“That'd be great! Thanks sweetie”, your mom chimes, her fine lines of face gathering around her eyes while she does so and you catch her throwing a wink to your side and you pretend you never saw that.

“Thank you Jimin”, you smile in all honesty while he reciprocates the same.

“No problem. I'll get my car. Will you be ready in an hour? I think you just woke up”

“Uh...yeah”, you fake a laugh, “Yes I'll be ready in an hour”

Jimin still lives here in your hometown, attends a community college nearby and his house is just a few steps away from your own. You remember how you had the same analogy in your mind as well. You like living here. You like Jimin’s company. The lake Park and the annual ice skating competition in December and the bookstores and coffee shops at the outskirts of the town. And you can't seem to clearly remember when and where that feeling started to become foreign. Maybe it was a teenage quirk to explore the world that you are now a three hour flight away from all of this. It wasn't a deep regret, but seeing Jimin, it almost felt like it. It felt like you betrayed him. Because he seemed to be keeping his word to this day.

This year, it's a few degrees lower than what it usually is and you find yourself chattering your teeth together as you walk to Jimin’s house.

His footsteps rush to get the door as soon as you ring the doorbell and he greets with the same wide grin as if he hasn't just saw you an hour ago.

“Let's go?”, he asks immediately, getting house keys from his coat pocket and locking the front door before stepping out making you confused.

“There's no one home? Where are your parents?”

“Oh well didn't Mrs. Y/L/n tell you?”, he studies your features and gets his response so he continues “They went to New York this year for Christmas. It's some elder people thing I think...so I'll be spending Christmas this year with your family”

“Really!?”, you chime, and then immediately notice a very childish jump you did with tiny fists and all, feeling a little embarrassed at yourself, “Ah... uh I mean that's great”.

“Yeah”, he giggles, sounding like a twelve year old who is still waiting for his growth spurt, “Get in the car it's freezing in here”.

Since it's been six odd months you've spoken to Jimin, you figured it would would be strange and awkward to be with him, but his demeanor states otherwise. He could effortlessly begin conversations and build momentum with you and by the time you are at a thrift store, he is aware of the little gist of student life and the dramatically exaggerated history research paper still due.

“What are you getting for the twins?”, he asks, seeing you checking out the kids toys section with absolutely no idea and that's exactly what you reply to him.

“How about this puzzle?”, he brings a big jigsaw to your glance and you figure it's a great thing to have their little brains engaged and give yourself time to breathe.

“It's perfect!”, you add, immediately placing it your cart with a few decors you picked up from earlier aisles.

Jimin places an extra pack of Christmas candies in the cart, and you send him a questionable look knowing it's his way of bribing the kids coming this evening. He puts too much effort into people's happiness, something you wish you were capable of as well.

The shopping went smooth. It was therapeutic to get hot chocolate with extra marshmallows afterwards like he insisted followed by that very cliche movie scene where one of them develops a creme moustache and the other notices and dabs it off.

You want this moment to linger a little longer, but your whole family arrives in less than two hours and the decorations were due. If Jin doesn't have you in the next thirty minutes he might as well eat all the cupcakes your mom is baking as revenge.

“I had a great time”, Jimin states as he stops the car in front of your house, stealing the words from your mouth and warmth hugs your cheeks immediately.

“Me too. It's been long since we spent time with each other”

You hear a lone sigh with white fogs coming out of his plump lips while he does so, as if he were suddenly sad when you mentioned that.

“Are you okay?”

His grips tightens around the steering, “I've missed you”, he says, eyes meeting slowly. And as if he was suddenly pulled back to earth he conjures another sentence to not sound so vulnerable.

“I uh... It's just--”

“I've missed you too”

Even with the gear box painstakingly blocking the way, you throw your upper half towards his body anyways and you find him hugging you back. His hugs still feel the same from years back; safe and warm and filled with love.

If it wasn't for the constant reminder that your brother is probably plotting a murder against you, you would've stayed much longer in his embrace. Maybe the hug was a big straightforward for a bond still gradually blooming, but it didn't feel weird at all and when you pull back he is smiling down at you.

“I thought you two lovebirds flew off”, a very annoyed Jin states from above you. He is balancing himself on a chair to attach the mistletoe to the ceiling.

“Sorry hyung”, Jimin says. And somehow now you are getting super aware of the way your family is low key shipping you both. Not that it's an irritating thing of course though you seem to act like it. But you have no idea what's going on with Jimin, what if he said he missed you as your childhood friend? It's a lot difficult to segregate his priority of giving affection. He seems to be giving justice in terms of care for every living being he knows.

“The circus is on its way so I hope you both hurry with putting up everything together”, the voice above states, now lowering himself to ground after putting up the twig.

Three of you giggle at the mention of your family as a circus. Well in a way it definitely was. You have a bunch if uncles who crack awful jokes, a trait Jin himself as picked up from a tender age of ten. Then their wives and kids who share certainly the same braincells in comprehending things. You bet they'll ask you again about your major and your dating history once they walk in through that door amidst clearly stating everytime that you are a history major and yes still very single.

In the hallway there is a half decorated tree. A thread of fairly lights wrapped around the green and very few baubles hanging here and there.

“I'll put up the star and join you”, Jimin says, digging out a golden star from the carton. Though now he doesn't know why it was a good idea for him to announce that when both of you were almost the same height. He is just a few centimeters taller than you and the top of the fir is still very much way above your heads.

So with a chuckle you both figure Jin has to do it.

“This is your final year right?”, Jimin asks stepping closer to you. He seemed nervous about something. Or was it anxious?

“Yeah...you?”

“Yeah...”, his sweet tone was drawn almost like a whisper and you sense you should ask him further about what's wrong. But before you had to deal with a starter he continues,

“Are you planning to work in Chicago as well?”

“Sweetheart help me clean up the kitchen please”, your hear your mom's voice overpowering through the house. Which is good. Because you don't know what you are supposed to answer. It was as if he was almost hopeful that you'll choose your hometown all over again. But you aren't sure. So you take the opportunity to step away from the situation excusing yourself.

And while you are clearing the blobs of batter stuck on the counter, your mind is a haywire. What are you going to do? Though you know your whole family wants you to stay, it's still a foggy place to be in. Four years apart in another city as a college student has not provided much, except caffeine addiction and sleepless nights. Things were not even as fun as everyone told you.

A few steps away Jimin silently prays that you stay, because he had truly missed you. Even though you have outgrown from the eighteen year old shell as he had known, he finds himself actively choosing to be with you. Even when other things in life occupies his mind, there's an element of it which goes back to you.

“They are here!”. You groan silently, while your parents are throwing their hands in air, giggles and chatter fills in as your uncles and aunts and the taunting toddlers welcome themselves in.

“Y/n! You have grown so much!”, the older aunt comments, and you supply a manufactured smile to tag along. Other comments follow by soon, about how tired you are, gasps about not having a partner and future plans, all of which are not completely answerable at the moment but you manage to get through them all and finally excusing yourself back to the garage convincing there are more decor supplies in there.

Families are nice. They make festivals brighter and lives less lonely. But yours was just hard sometimes. Not that you completely loathed the people now fueling themselves off the cup cakes your mom bakes, you were just merely lost, still yet to come up with an answer to what your stance is after graduation.

“Hey...”. Jimin has joined you now which you notice feeling a warmth against your shoulder when he sits, with an extra scraf knowing the garage is still comparatively chilly than the house, “you okay?”.

“Yeah...I was just...thinking”

“Is this about earlier? I'm sorry if I made you anxious”, he quickly adds.

“No!...I mean yeah but, it's high time I find a ground with this. What are your plans?”

“I was thinking about teaching at Jefferson High”, he shifts rather uncomfortably. He is talking of the school in your town, your school, where you have lots of memories with Jimin, “You know...like we said during Junior year in high school?”

“I'm sorry Jimin”, you feel the guilt inside you growing, “I never kept my promises”.

“Hey...that's okay! Everyone changes. I just want you to be happy. I...I hope you are happy Y/n”, he reassures, taking your hand from your side and squeezing it between his soft palms.

“I don't know about that either...”

As much as you hated showcasing vulnerability to another person, you know Jimin is an exception. You had cried to him about everything during school days and he had never invalidated a single thing, even when you were visibly dramatic over a downpour during a family picnic when you were five.

Jimin is frozen on his seat as if he can't find the words. He was never good with words so instead he hugs you, a little longer than the last time till he is sure you have calmed down. Grateful for not ending up crying, you smile up at him and remind yourselves to get back inside to avoid suspicion, especially from the kids who take humiliating people as an important milestone to achieve.

When you enter back inside and get immediately surrounded by a million questions and chores thrown at you, you find your answer. Maybe your heart belongs back to everything your younger self had blabbered about. Not to mention, this fairly good reunion with your crush feels nice, though, he might still see it as platonic. Maybe he makes things less daunting.

By the way Jimin was owning everyone's heart in the house, it felt like he was family. Well in a way he is. But to put more clarity, he bought things together and his actions bought so much peace and love within everyone. Even the notorious twins listen carefully to him and help the uncles and aunts in the kitchen.

He is again by your side, two cupcakes rests on his palms and you take it with a silent ‘thanks’.

Seeing no signs of him beginning a talk now, you think of coming up with something. Maybe a memoir from today? Or about how absolutely handsome he looks right now? Wait.

“They are under the kissing twig!”, Aerum screams like the house caught in fire, her sibling joining by the side to provoke the habit even more.

“It's called a mistletoe Aerum”, your aunt corrects before pasting a smug across her lips.

Nothing changed. They are the same people. Hyping you and Jimin to kiss just like when you were thirteen. If the factor of time is removed, this is the exact night. Both of you cemented to the flooring as if you forgot to exist.

Both of your necks snap together to the mistletoe Jin had attached to the ceiling earlier. And when you lower your gaze back, face gawks at each other eye to eye. It's the same. He has that blush, the shyness from years ago. It's going to be platonic. Yet again. And this moment will only ever be romantic and flowery in your head.

June was the first to squeak, and Aerum shuts her eyes the moment Jimin is leaning his mouth towards your lips. It was difficult to relax under the stares of many, but when he ghosts his mouth over your again and leans in for a second kiss, you are fixated on him. Hands holding each other, the plump of his lips so soft it felt like you were biting into a fluff of cloud.

Maybe he'll have an explanation to your family for this. Not like anyone in the audience was disappointed. Your mother was almost in tears? And Jin looked hardly surprised with any of this. As if it was all swell according to his plans.

“You both are so cute”, one of the aunts awes and your mother is quick by her side, completely agreeing to it.

“Jimin...”, you return your gaze to the equally flustered man who just kissed you and he sounded almost breathless,

“I'm sorry if this was wrong it ju--”

“I like you”, you immediately snap in and his face is a void for an instant. Fully processing the words, his eyes disappear when he grins, “I like you too...a lot”.

“Are you two dating?”, the twins haven't dropped the case yet, running to your feet to help their curious brains.

“Yes...”, Jimin responds, looking up at you for a reassurance, which you quickly supply with a nod, “Yes we are dating”.

When the kids are satisfied they go away snickering to themselves.

“I decided to stay”, you say.

“Really!?”, his disbelief was comical, yet wholesome considering how much he wished for this, “I'm...I'm so happy!”.

Giggling at him, this time you lean forward and peck the corner of his lips.

“You lovebirds better get a room”, Jin announces and thankfully not loud enough to catch everyone else's attention.

Usually Jin expects a punch to his arms from his sister, but he sees how grateful you are for his mistletoe decor. He leaves the couple, satisfied that there won't be any more ranting about how much Jimin likes you.
