Ummm. Was your username inspired by Lovecraft from Bungou Stray Dogs?

alas! it is nottt (though i have heard about bsd Lovecraft from fans of the show that i know lol)

nah my username comes from the name of the pocasting group i was going to startup last year sometime, and that name comes from the author that inspired bsd loveraft, H.P. Lovecraft (may his racist ass rot in hell <3)

so i guess in a way it kinda is? XD i've never seen bsd though

More than one of Lovecraft's fans, critics, and personal friends - Frank Belknap Long specifically in the latter case - have stated regret that HPL had devoted so much of his time to writing letters. The assumption has been that Lovecraft would have been able to write so much more origional fiction if he had not let himself be mired in correspondence. Well, that is a perspective worth considering. The estimates for the total number of personal letters Lovecraft may have written in his life were once tallied at one-hundred thousand. S. T. Joshi, Loverafts most respected biographer, has figured the actual number was was more in the 60 thousand letter range. Fortunately the 10k estimate for EXISTING letters continues to rise and a new total for them goes up every decade as more are discovered. So, would Lovecraft have written more origional stories had he not been buried in correspondence and 'revision work'? On the one hand we must ask ourselves why Lovecraft wrote fiction in the first place. He claimed numerous times that he wrote primarily for himself. He considered himself an amateur gentleman of letters his whole life. Well, let's take him at his word. As HPL tells it he wrote origional fiction to express a certain mood, a certain "atmosphere" of cosmic dread that he imagined. His tales were then a refinement of those moods and personal feelings of dislocation, terror, and alienation experienced in his dreams, reactions to art, the decadence he saw in contemporary society, and the experiences of his personal life. In other words for Lovecraft each of his stories had specific purpose for being. None, he claimed, or hoped (he always expressed a fear that might have been influenced by surrounding hack written fiction) was created with the thought of profit. Now it's true that Lovecraft did In fact receive renunciation for many of his tales, but he did not expend a lot of time trying to sell his work to publishers. Some of his tale only saw publication at all because one of his friends submitted a story for him. In some cases these very tales had already been rejected at least once. So then, would Lovecraft have been a far more prolific writer without all the time spent on letter writing to friends? Perhaps we'll never know for certain, but the preponderance of the evidence suggests not. (Exhibit 582)
