We LOVE Our VOLUNTEERS!
Tumblr media
Non-profit organizations throughout the country are celebrating their dedicated volunteers this week, as April 7th kicked off the start of National Volunteer Week!  President Richard Nixon established National Volunteer Week with an executive order in 1974.  The week’s purpose is to recognize and celebrate the efforts of volunteers. Since then, the original emphasis on celebration has widened; the week has become a nationwide effort to urge people to get out and volunteer in their communities. We here at Believe in Books Literacy Foundation could not be more thankful for all of the support and efforts our devoted and loyal volunteers give to our organization.  Our volunteers give their valuable time to do so many unique things to help us throughout the year!  Some volunteers read to children during our outreach reading tours, while others flip pancakes at our Storybook Character Breakfast Series.  We have volunteers in the fall that help with our race fundraisers and many in the winter that help us make Christmas miracles during our Journey to the North Pole™ event.  No matter what the job is, our volunteers step up and get it done, and for that, we cannot thank them enough! We currently have a few volunteer opportunities available if anybody out there is looking to help their local literacy foundation.  Over the next two weekends, we are looking for volunteers to assist staff members in the 100-Acre Wood Sugar Shack.  Greet guests, make popcorn, and offer samples of warm maple syrup.  Next, we could use a few helping hands next week as we welcome local schools to the Theater in the Wood to celebrate Earth Day with Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax!  Volunteers get to assist in welcoming students to the theater, helping students make a very special craft project they will get to take home, or guiding the school groups on an educational Storybook walk.  Finally, we are looking for assistance for our last Outreach Reading Tour of the school year starting in May.  Help us give out books to little ones while we bring Curious George to over 60 preschool classrooms. If you are interested in any of these opportunities, please check out www.believeinbooks.org/volunteering.html or email Katie Young at [email protected].   Thank you again to everyone who has volunteered for our organization and to all of our future volunteers!  One of the greatest gifts anybody can give, is their time. For your time and generosity, we thank you!
