Wild headcannons please?
I have some thought based off these 2 fics a friend wrote on how Wild perceives death/his option and thoughts about dying. I’m curious about yours, but I’ll honestly be happy with anything Wild.
Or Swars, I like swars
I have so many thoughts about Wild actually!! Here’s how I write/see him:
- The most independent of the group. One might think it’s Time or even Four, but no, it’s Wild. He likes to do his own thing. Sure shenanigans with friends are super fun (his favorites to run off with being Hyrule for cave exploration and Wars for Fires), but he’s perfectly content being alone and likes personal time too
- One of the most emotionally intelligent of the Links. He absolutely knows what his limits are and he knows exactly how to handle his stress, it just includes going off on his own (which does worry the others when he just heads off with no warning, but they know he can handle himself. If he’s gone too long, Wolfie will go after him just to check up on him)
- He lets Twilight hover over him when he’s hurt for Twilight’s sake. He does appreciate the comfort, because that’s his friend and brother, but he doesn’t need the rancher breathing down his neck in order to actually rest after an injury. He just lets Twilight do it because he knows Twilight’s just going to get really worried about him and taking care of people makes Twilight feel useful, so for his brother’s sake: He’ll allow the hovering
- Snores. Extremely fucking loudly, in fact
- Realizing he actually DIED and was sort of dead for 100 years was really jarring for him, but he’s also a bit used to dying and being brought back because of Mipha, so that DEFINITELY softened the blow. Also it was hard for him to adjust after losing that, because he felt he had a failsafe and now he feels incredibly mortal
- He’s still getting some memories back, nothing huge, more so little things like him and Zelda sneaking off to chase each other in the meadows, but the process does still really affect him. He feels guilty because he’s watching this old life through a third person lens and it’s hard for him to connect that that’s HIM. He feels like a completely different person
- One of the most intelligent of the chain. He may lack historical knowledge, but his ability to SOLVE things and figure out how they work had Warriors’s jaw on the ground the first time he saw Wild’s skill in action
- Multilingual, the different regions all have their own languages and Wild know em all!! He doesn’t remember learning them, it was probably in school, he just woke up from the shrine with full knowledge of them
- His eyes slightly glow the eerie color of the shrine and it’s a bit creepy sometimes because he does have the wide eyed blue eyes stare
- Loves learning new cooking dishes and also cooking with his brothers and learning THEIR recipes from home! After the journey ends he’ll make certain dishes to remind him of the others when he misses them
that’s all i can think of for now lmao 🫶

Links and their relationships:
Sky and Sun are deeply in love. As of now, they’re in that phase where the other can do no wrong. Things will get hard as they begin to build the kingdom of Hyrule together, but they won’t ever really break apart. At the end of the day, they’re the only ones who know what the other has been through. They are each others comfort and safety. Both would die for the other but they also live for each other. They both had hard journeys on the surface and kept going in the hope of seeing the other again.
Four and Dot are technically engaged, but they just say they’re dating. They’d been friends for their whole lives when one day Four just goes “oh. Oh no. I think I have a crush on Dot.” The colors each came to this conclusion a while ago, but didn’t realize they all felt that way until this day. It takes weeks for him to build up the courage to ask Dot on a date. Before he even gets a chance to ask though, she visits the forge, gives him a flower and asks if he’d be her date to a banquet next week. Since they admitted they both had feeling for the other, it’s been pretty smooth sailing. Dot is the only person who knows how to tell the colors apart when Four isn’t split. Being around her makes him feel whole. Maybe it’s because of the Light Force that she holds, or maybe it’s because all the colors can agree that Dot is great. Who’s tho say? They got engaged after a Prince from another kingdom came around to ask for the Princess’s hand in marriage. Dot was very blunt in saying no. Her royal advisers had to scramble to try and save the situation before she pointed to Four and said “I’m already betrothed.” She later asked if Four was okay with that and he said yes. It’s unsure to most people if they’re actually betrothed or if it’s a lie to get royal suitors off Dot’s tail.
Time is married to Malon and they are perfect. They run Lon Lon Ranch together and are happy to take life at its own pace. Having lived three days over and over again, Time has both lost and gained a better appreciation for a single day. Malon is the only person he’s told everything to and who believe him. She can tell when Time begins to doubt he isn’t in the loop again and assured him this is real and time is passing normally. Being married to a hero who’s not known has its difficulties, but Malon loves Time and that includes the baggage he carries. Time does his best to make life easier for his wife. He also brings a child like magic to her life that not many adults can maintain. He makes sure that for every reassurance she gives him, he gives her a worry free mini adventure. As a Kokiri Child, he’ll never lose his childish side, no matter how old he gets and he brings that to his love.
Twilight is single and sad. In a perfect world, Twilight, Midna, and Dusk would be dating. Twilight and Dusk aren’t dating each other, they’re just both dating Midna. Twilight and Dusk are just good friends who love their shared goth girlfriend. Midna brings a chaos to both their lives that they didn’t know they needed until she brought it.
Wind is a child. He has a crush on Tetra…right now. That could change in a week or day, but right now he has a crush on the Pirate Queen of the Great Seas.
Legend is married to Ravio. Is there even any question about that? In the peak, ideal world (aka what I Headcannon), Legend is married to both Ravio and Marin. They live in Legend’s house and have an apple orchard. Legend makes instruments for Marin to play in Castle Town while Ravio sells the instruments Legend has made. They go on adventures together. Ravio and Marin are very flirty. Legend can be flirty, but he clams up a little when flustered. They each have a different love language. Ravio likes to give and receive gifts, Marin enjoys quality time, and Legend values physical touch. They all work to give and receive the others’ forms of love.
Hyrule and Aurora are in fact dating, but unless you’re directly told that, you wouldn’t know. They’re really chill with each other and act like two bros. Neither of them is especially keen on physical affection, especially in front of other people. They don’t make big deals of going on dates or getting gifts for each other. Most gifts given between the two are along the lines of ‘look at this cool rock I found and pocketed for you.’ They have a unique relationship and not many people understand it, but they do and that’s all that matters.
Warriors isn’t in a relationship. “Maybe he just hasn’t found the right person yet or maybe he’s just not looking.” That’s what people tell him, but he knows better. After everything with Cia, he’s not eager to jump into a relationship, now or ever really. That said, he is close with Athena (Artemis) and Impa. They’ll all gossip about people and vent about their week. Sometimes when Impa isn’t there, Warriors and Athena will talk about how Cia’s actions hurt them. They talk about how in reincarnations they never knew, their souls were in love and what that means for them. They’ve agreed that it won’t happen. Warriors admits that he’s sworn off relationships all together and Athena is the first person who doesn’t just say it’s temporary.
Wild…okay. Before Calamity Wild held back all his thoughts and feelings and didn’t allow himself to care about romance. Current Wild is heart broken. He only remembers bits and pieces of his life, but based on what he remembered, he loved Mipha. Now it’s too late though. He can finally recognize all his feelings for all the champions and now it’s too late. There are very few people who remember what he’s just trying to figure out. Wild and Flora are currently ‘dating.’ They’re not sure what they should call it, but they’re together. It’s not official and they can both see other people if they want. At the end of the day though, no one else understands their thoughts and feelings better than each other. No one else was in their positions. They find comfort in each other.

A Player's Aid: Chapter 8
Fandom: Legend of Zelda, Linked Universe.
A/N: As an apology for taking so long on the last chapter I sped ran this for all to enjoy with a little surprise at the end. ;)
Warnings: Brief mentions of violence, brief mentions of an argument, angst, bad language, mentions of anxiety(?)
It was only a little past 4 when you reached the stable, everyone seemed to still be vibrating with energy, chatting vividly amongst each other and walking around to check out where the lot of you would be camping tonight. In all honesty, you hadn’t been surprised that any of them weren’t even close to being tired- they were adventurers, they were heroes and a 10-hour walk certainly wouldn't put a dent in their vitality.
However, you were practically dead on your feet. The walk had put a strain on your legs, and including that earlier scuffle with those Chuchus, your whole body felt heavy from exhaustion. Your eyes fought to stay open as you sat back on a tree stump next to the cookpot just to the right of Dueling Peaks Inn, Wild already cooking lunch while everyone did their own thing around you.
"Tired?" A quick glance to your left showed the Hero of Warriors, taking a seat on the log next to your stump, leaning on his elbows on his knees with a careful smile.
You hummed. "I'm not used to so much walking."
"Is that so?"
Nodding your head, you wrapped your arms around yourself and yawned. "Hiking like this is reserved for days out with friends- most of the time I get around using public transport or my car."
"And what's that?" Wild asked from next to the pot, cutting up some carrots on a chopping board and then sliding them into the boiling water. “‘Public Transport? Car?’ I’ve never heard such a pairing.”
“Uhhhh-”
Oh, how could you explain this? A metal horse? A metal cart? Honestly, how would you begin to explain half the thing within your world? The concept of metal containers that would fly, a system that kept you connected to almost everyone in the world, the technological advancements of science, and medicine alike. The etiquette, the people- everything seemed to be such a foreign concept in the light of the Legend of Zelda franchise aesthetic. You were talking to real medieval men, adventurers and knights- your world wasn’t even close to a dream, it was a concept that seemed improbable.
Warriors glanced over to Wild as you blue-screened, the younger male shrugging his shoulders before turning back to cooking, stirring it accordingly.
“...Like,” You started, gesturing your hands in a sort of box, face creasing as you willed your brain to blow off the dust on its functioning cogs and begin production of your thought process. “Like a metal…cart? No-”
The knight gave you pity.
Pity veiled in another deep question.
“What exactly do you hope to achieve travelling with us?”
Your gaze snapped up to him, his expression, not mean or cautious as you expected- but holding a true sincerity for his question. Warriors wanted to actually know what you wanted to get out of your newfound allyship with them all, something everyone was probably thinking and while it did stir the anxiety in your gut, it brought respect forth for the man who was actually trying to get answers from you in a polite way.
Hands came to fumble together in thought.
What did you want from this adventure? Of course, your main goal was to return home, no matter how much you grew to like- no love this place. Hyrule was a dream come true, a very dangerous dream and you knew that in the end, you’d be gutted having to leave such a beautiful place behind, a concrete fragment within your memory. It would hurt, but this wasn’t a place you could stay, not when you knew you’d miss everything back home. Arguments with yourself were frequent along with this question- back home the world seemed so horrible, so the gift of travel to a completely different universe to experience the life of dreams would be something to take in a heartbeat, right?
But what about those you left behind? Your best friends without a single clue as to where you had disappeared to. A vacant bed with a whining pet who missed the return of their master as they nuzzled into the pillow that had already long forgotten your scent. A mother, alone in the living room wondering if you were alive or dead as police tried desperately (did they even care?) to get you back. You’d miss the memories of places too: The seaside with those beaches, the parks that had been trekked, again and again, the cinema you’d watch great or rubbish movies in with companions, the shops that you’d spent hours exploring- being pessimistic about the world around you was easy, but in the end, the true beauty of it all slapped you in the face when it was but a thought in your head.
Your home wasn't great but it also wasn't terrible.
"(Name)?" A hand came to rest on your shoulder, your attention brought forth as Warriors glanced over you, meeting your eyes finally. "Are you well-"
"Nothing."
The man paused before raising a brow.
"I don't have anything I want to achieve while with you guys- unless befriending you all and making it less awkward is something." With a shrug, you smiled, sweet and soft. "Maybe learning how to fight so my arse doesn't have to deal with more Chuchu burns- fucking hell those hurt. I thought Chuchus smacked you like when you accidentally belly flop into a pool-"
The chuckle that left the blonde surprised you both it seemed, the man's hand moving from your shoulder to cover his mouth as it spiralled into laughter, the heat crawling up your neck at the deep, smooth sound-
I THINK THE FUCK NOT YOU STUPID BITCH-
STAY BACK CRINGE CRUSH FROM THE DEPTHS OF HELL-
"Your honesty is humorous at times, (Name), but I like that." His eyes almost sparkled in the afternoon sun, hair blowing in the wind and ruffling golden yellow locks. "Melancholy is for the mundane, your comedy is something that we will need during this adventure."
…What type of anime bullshit was this?
Why were the Goddesses making him so handsome? Was it to torment you for that stupid x reader you made when you were 13?! You had sent that memory into the bottomless void with the rest of the soul torturing embarrassments-
"Cheers." You responded awkwardly, looking away. "You- uh, hm- You have pretty eyes and a nice face. Very skrunkly-"
Your face immediately fell into your hands.
What the actual fuck, (Name).
Your friends would have certainly burned you at the stake like a Salem witch without a shred of kindness in their eyes.
‘The council has made their decision- to the Chat of Shame they go.’
Your stupidity would be pinned in the Discord chat for all to see.
Wild wasn't hiding his amusement, that was for sure, snorting out the spoonful of soup he was taste testing right into his hand, laughter spilling from his lips as he turned to his bag and searched for a cleaning cloth within his bag. Every single cell within your being told you to kick him over as he patted down his face, glaring down at him.
"Thank you?" The Knight chuckled, patting you lightly on the back to help ease your humiliation. "You are, uh, skrunkly too?"
You couldn't hold back the horrid noise that you weren't entirely sure was a laugh from bursting out of your mouth.
-----
There was a certain tenseness around Twilight when he'd approached Time later that day. His shoulders were squared, his brows furrowed and his lips pinched in a way that the older man knew meant he had a question, one he was certain he wasn't about to like. Only to be expected though, it would have come from him or the Hero of Warriors eventually and he was not apprehensive about answering as he cleaned down the Gilded Sword from the Chuchu slime.
"Why would you leave them alone?"
The tone in his voice revealed a clear negative: he was upset, he was confused- he was angry and he had every right to be. The rancher looked up to Time with an obvious adoration for his heroics and what he had done today was certainly not that. Leaving you alone was stupid, it was cruel and the younger man knew better than to watch your form disappear from sight as they took position to take on the camp. Anyone could have stayed, but the old man had decided none of them would.
Why?
Time returned to his weapon. "I was testing something."
Twilight's frown became more prominent. "What could you have possibly tested that it would have risked their life-"
"It's watching us."
A noise of confusion left the man before it morphed into understanding, however, the conflict still swam within his gaze. "And you believed that it was needed to leave them? We didn't need to test that theory when it is something we have already guessed."
It wasn't just that.
It was with a heavy heart that Time kept it to himself but it was for the best because the younger lad simply wouldn't understand. Or maybe he would, a simple glance towards Hyrule prodded that idea similar to a sleeping bear.
There was something about you and he knew it. It had started with your voice itching a scratch he just couldn't reach, it was relieving and sweet, his body physically relaxing and almost bringing tears to his eyes and for what? What possible reason could your voice do that to him? No magic was in place, so how?
The answer was your relationship with the traveller it had to be. The man wasn't a fool, he knew that the Hero of Hyrule was hiding something but he also knew questions upon questions would lead to no answers. 'They resemble my old friend' is what the boy had told them that evening but there was more to it, that fondness in his eyes was all too real and he wanted to understand why. Time wanted to know if that same feeling of fondness is what lay too far in his own mind, hidden by a wall of darkness he couldn't seem to penetrate.
So, he thought he'd test your wills. After all, if you were an old friend of the travellers, were you perhaps an old friend of his? Maybe seeing you fight would spark the fire in his head and thus the memory would present itself.
It was only when you fell into his arms, whimpering with tears fighting to fall, did he remember you didn't hold the face of a fighter and he had just pushed you into a dangerous position without any regard for your safety.
The way you clung to Hyrule had his heart squeezing with regret.
"A guess is a guess," The man replied finally, meeting the narrowed eyes of Twilight after nearly a minute of silence. "I- we needed to know for certain if the Shadow is watching us. That Chuchu is proof-"
"In what way is it proof-"
"Must you keep asking questions?!"
Twilight's mouth snapped shut, the tense atmosphere shifting uncomfortably when Time finally sighed, leaning back with a mixed gaze.
"My apologies, I didn't-" Releasing another breath, he slid his sword back into its scabbard. "I believe that the Shadow summoned the monster not to hurt our guest but to separate them from us."
Twilight settled down on the log opposite his mentor, leaning forward with his brows once again furrowed, however, his expression held confusion in contrast to his earlier grumpy scowl. "But we were already separated?"
"Not far enough- you saw how fast the traveller moved. One scream and he may have ended our journey in no less than a few seconds." Glancing back over to their comrades, the two men watched the scene from afar.
Wild was sneaking up on an untamed horse along with you and Hyrule following behind. The two watched as Wild gestured for you to come closer, saying something they couldn't hear from their own position before the both of you were rushing forward and jumping the great beast, frantically soothing it until it finally relaxed, your cheers loud as you threw your hands within the air in accomplishment.
"I believe the monster was a ploy to get them alone so that it could strike." You turned your body, high fiving the Hero of the Wild. "It just didn't account for which way (Name) would have run."
"The Shadow is smart, did it not think of that possibility?"
Time hummed in thought. "It may be desperate."
"Perhaps."
Silence hung between them as you, Wild and Hyrule trekked back over to the group, your mouth running fast from your excitement while Hyrule laughed, patting your thigh in hopes of calming you down.
“We will continue this later.”
They returned to their own duties.
-----
"Who are they?"
It was late now, the sun setting in the West and bathing the area in a beautiful golden glow. The evening wind blew softly, ruffling the trees and waving the grass around you with its gentle whistle, the flow of Squabble River soft in your ears, its currents beautiful against the light of the sunset and the water disappeared into the horizon beyond the cliffs of Dueling Peaks.
The camp was situated just by Ha Dahamar Shrine, the fire a beacon in the coming night as the laughter of men caught the air, the different heroes exchanging many stories of their adventures, some making boisterous gestures while others merely sat back comfortably.
You knew you couldn’t wander off, no, that would have been a stupid decision but you also wanted to get away just a little, just bask in the beautiful serenity of Hyrule. Big Twin Bridge was only a few feet away, somewhere close to keep an eye on you, so you pointed towards it, informed Hyrule of your decision and sat on the wood to watch the sun disappear from the sky.
You understood why Rusl felt sad when dusk fell as the world around you bled from view and the only thing in your mind was what could possibly be happening back home. Your hand fell to your bag beside you, rummaging through the contents to find what you were looking for and- there.
Your purse, with different important trinkets stuffed inside.
“Jesus Christ Wind!” You had yelped a little while after pulling out the thing, holding your assortment of items close so as to not drop them in the river below. “Don’t fucking sneak up on me like that you little bastard.”
The young boy huffed, sitting down next to you with an overdramatic scowl as his arms came to cross over themselves. “Not my fault you’re deaf.”
“You little shit-”
The boy laughed, missing your playful swat his way then leaned against your arm as you huffed playfully, turning back to the little photos in your hands.
“So, who are they?”
“My friends and family from back home.” Turning them towards him for a better view, you pointed them out to him carefully as you spoke their names. “That’s Marie and JD, they were my childhood friends at a funfair. That’s Amira and Abdul, they’re twins, we met them a little later in life and that there is Elisabetta, we only became friends recently.”
“And her?”
“This one? That’s my mum- we went out for her birthday,” You laughed, bringing it a little closer to examine the look on your mother’s face. Excitement, pure excitement after you drove her to a beautiful garden cafe an hour away, bought her lunch for the day then gifted her a pretty engraved ring with a card you and your other friends had signed- all from your own pocket. “She was so happy and proud, I’d saved for months to make her 50th birthday special.”
Wind looked up at you. “Do you have any more photos?”
“Oh, yeah, on my phone- hold on.”
Staring at the abundance of memories stored in the hard drive of the device proved something you already knew- you missed them all so much. From the cute nights out with your gang to the stupid cursed photos that JD or Elisa would sneak when you weren’t looking and those just such motherly images your mama would send of her pretty window plants, the food she had cooked while you were at university or work with the caption “Wish you were here! :)” and old little memories she’d find going through her photo box on occasion.
The Sailor recognised the look that glazed over your face the longer you went through your gallery, moving his sleeve to wipe away the tears that had slowly begun to roll down your cheeks, a small sniff sounding from your nose when Wind squeezed your hand, gesturing to look at him.
“I miss them too.” He whispered, “My sister and my nanny- I miss them a lot.”
The tears returned tenfold and your arms moved to wrap around the smaller boy who welcomed your hug without argument. His own face pinched with sadness as you sobbed into his hair, crying for the comfort of your friends and your family. It was nice to know that the feeling was mutual, maybe not even just with the boy, but for now, you found comfort in him, thanking the beings above that you weren’t alone with your longing.
"I'm sorry," You wept, "You probably haven't seen your family for ages and I'm here crying after 3 days-"
"Don't apologize, distance affects us all differently."
That's all you needed to hear, continuing to cry your heart until you were finally satisfied, Wind by your side your entire time.
And at that moment, it was enough.
-----
Getting awoken wasn't something you were really fond of. Honestly, that could be said for many, however, you were particularly angry this time around from your disturbed sleep with your bedroll being lumpy, leaving you to struggle to enter the land of dreams until well into the night, the first duty being taken by Four who sent you a sympathetic smile at your toss and turns.
Wild wasn't spared any kindness with the dirty glare you sent him that only hardened when you noticed the lack of daylight around you, only the glow of the dying fire that Hyrule was poking at lighting up his quick to change expression of nerves, hands flying up.
"What?"
"I mean no ill intent: There's something I want to show you."
Your face was pinched with displeasure as you pushed yourself up to a seated position, moving your hand to rub at your eye to rid of the sleep. “Really? Right now?”
“Yes, right now.”
With a whine, you flopped back onto your bedroll, summoning the wills of a thousand suns for the energy of having to leave your warm, lumpy mat.
Wild was patient the entire time as you dragged yourself to get ready, too tired to even argue when he handed you a different set of clothes to your own with no explanation, but you honestly didn’t care- they were fluffy and incredibly warm as you pulled them over you while the wild hero talked with the traveller just a few feet away.
“You promise to take care of them?”
“I swear on my life.”
The friendship between the two had certainly become a deep one, a shared love for adventuring and deep secrets whispered in moments of silence- they were like blood brothers with a bond forged from flames. Having each other’s back was minimal, if one were to jump into a bottomless pit the other would follow in hopes of the following escapade. Hyrule and Wild were not a duo to be messed with, unpredictable and fueled by the fire in their hearts, the other heroes knew together they would be in good hands.
The brunette also knew that his friend would keep his promise, however with the anxious squeeze in his chest putting pressure upon his shoulders for reassurance the man needed confirmation. Hyrule couldn’t lose you again, not a third time, not after so many years with so little time together could the hero let you disappear from his hands when he had just gotten you back. Accompanying you both wasn’t an option, not with the others dead asleep just a few inches away, he needed to guard them as his morning duty suggested.
So when Wild’s hand rested upon his shoulders, cerulean blue meeting hazelnut brown with a second promise of “I swear it.” falling from his lips, Hyrule swallowed the ball in his throat and sat back against his log.
“...Be back soon.”
Wild grinned something cheeky. “As quick as lightning.”
With a chuckle, Hyrule snapped his fingers and let the magic spark between the digits. “An oath, my friend?”
“An oath I shall make it- if that is what you so truly wish.”
“I’m ready.” You called quietly over, sat patiently on your sleep mat as Hyrule finally waved him off, the other hero standing to his full height and turning towards you.
“...Protect them.”
Without sparing another glance, Wild nodded then walked over to you, tugging you to your feet then walking away from the camp, further in between the cliffs of Dueling Peaks.
“Where are we going?”
“Just a moment-”
The reveal of the Sheikah Slate- The Sheikah Slate was indeed a sight to behold…only for it to be overshadowed by the tiny whispers of magic accompanying it, sending a shiver through your spine as Wild clicked about the screen, concentrated solely on his task.
Ah yes, you had almost forgotten, after a very busy day involving very homicidal Chuchus and exploring not even a ⅓ of the beauty that was eastern Hyrule, it was easy to let slip the current flow of magic running through your veins, pulling off the glove Hyrule had gifted you to see the mark of the Sheikah burned into the back of your hand, your eyelid twitching as you registered the tingle of the same power currently residing in it.
“Are you well?” Wild’s voice snapped you from your daze, glove returning to its rightful place as he narrowed his eyes. “Does it hurt?”
“No, no, I just- I think it’s reacting to the slate.”
He hesitated. “...If that is the case-”
“Don’t back out now, you’ve got me bouncing on my toes you’re not allowed to do that.” Nudging him slightly with your shoulder, you ignored the ominous whispers of the slate in favour of sending him a smile, warm and inviting that prompted a shaky one of his own. “Let’s do this! I wanna see what you wanted to show me.”
“...Okay” He nodded, more to himself. “Yes, let’s do this.”
There was a click of a button.
Then the world around you began to dematerialise- or rather, you began to fade, neon blue surrounding you with the whispers growing in volume around you. They weren’t screams, no, still hushed and mixed around you, but they were certainly deafening for the few moments whatever this was- lasted, your feet making contact with the solid ground as your surroundings began to phase in, the entirety of your body lacking energy which only led you to stumble right into Wild’s arms, his grip gentle yet firm when he tugged you to stand upright, face to face and meeting eyes.
“How do you feel?”
You blinked, then looked away. “Uh, pretty sure my arse is in my throat-”
The sudden look of horror flashing over his face made you panic, hands coming to hold his shoulders as you stumbled out reassurances.
“I’m taking the piss! I’m alright! I’m just a bit shaky and deaf at the moment, that’s all!”
“Are you sure-”
“Positive!”
Another doubtful second passed before he finally relaxed, taking in the deepest of breaths.
“So where are we?”
His smile was kind as merely turned you around, your mouth dropping in sheer awe at the scene.
The Necluda région was certainly a sight to behold from atop the hillside where the village of Hateno sat, but standing here, atop Dueling Peaks summit it was nothing compared to what you were seeing now. Green, green, green- it was everywhere. Grass was all over the land no matter where you looked, the many smaller mountains stood proud over the fields, and the clouds cast over the land like a blanket.
You weren’t reduced to just the sights of Necluda this time, however.
Turning to your left, you spotted Sheikah towers leading up to the greatness that was Death Mountain, the volcano’s deadly glow of lava highlighting the intimidating cracks along its surface from its mighty eruption thousands upon thousands of years ago. A familiar sight of two divine beasts in the distance made you grin, a whisper of their names falling from your lips.
“Vah Ruta... Vah Rudania…”
Excitement knew no bounds as you hopped off the platform of Shee Vaneer shrine, to look upon the beauty of Hyrule fields, Hyrule Castle free of its plague of malice and a beautiful, broken beacon to the centre of the kingdom. Further beyond you could just spot the nest of the Rito with their protector standing tall on its perch above its found home.
“Vah Medoh.”
Then you sprinted to the opposite side, casting your amazement from the scene of the Bridge of Hylia over the Goddess’ great lake, the risen land of the Great Plateau just a few miles following behind and just beyond that the Canons that hid the sands of the Gerudo région, her greatness watching over the kingdom with what you knew was a gaze filled with a pride that was older than most.
“Vah Naboris! Oh my God, this- this is amazing-” Your eyes bulged when you noticed a fiery sea glass blue glow from a mountain top in the distance. “That’s gotta be Satori Mountain! I-”
“You’re about to miss the best part.” Wild’s chuckle was teasing as he grabbed your shoulder, gently motioning you to turn back to the direction of Necluda, pointing at Mount Lanayru. “I told you I’d show you some of the best spots in Hyrule, didn’t I? Well, you must see the beauty that accompanies it.”
Beyond the great land formation, sat the horizon and with it the rising sun, the light slowly pouring over the scenery and bathing it in its warm, orange glow. It was truly beautiful, this entire shot was incredibly beautiful and you couldn’t help the blubbery laugh that fell from your lips, arm running over your eyes to stop the amazed tears from running down your face.
Then suddenly you were hit with the pressure of it all. Kidnapped from your home and dropped in a land that shouldn’t exist, you met the heroes of Hyrule who weren’t exactly happy to meet you as you were to meet them, threatened by one, was painfully branded by Sheikah magic, had to walk for 10 hours, lost a fight to something as pathetic as a Chuchu-
And now you were watching the most beautiful sunset you’d ever seen.
You wished you could show your friends this.
“(Name)?”
You wished you could show your mum this.
“Are you alright?”
You wished you weren’t feeling everything so much at once.
“Hey! Can you hear me?”
You wanted to scream.
So with a deep, shaky breath-
You did just that.
You screamed. You screamed, hard and loud and you made sure to place every pesky little emotion that had washed over you for the past three days into the yell, feeling the suffocating pressure slowly fade as you let it all out. It was long, dragging out for a total of 10 seconds before you choked on a voice crack and coughed into the open air, covering your mouth with your elbow as you leaned over while trying to catch your breath.
“What- What in Hylia’s name was that!?” The Wild Hero yelped after a moment, staring at your hunched over figure with widened eyes. “Why did you scream-”
Quickly, you turned, grabbing at his hand and catching his eyes as you finally spoke, still huffing out a storm from your very much needed vent wail. “Scream with me.”
“Wh-”
“Don’t think.” You squeezed his scarred digits gently, running your thumb over the callous skin with a softness he hadn’t experienced since-...ever. He couldn’t remember such a time when someone had treated him with such a kind touch. “Just scream with me. Let it all out- no one would hear it from up here anyway- what do you say?”
Wild’s brows furrowed in contemplation. “But-”
Your smile soothed his worries. “I’ll hold your hand, so you don’t have to worry.”
"But why do you want me to scream?"
"Link, I just screamed over stuff that’s happened over the past 3 days,” You laughed, it was melancholic and heavy, but your expression stayed light. “I can’t even begin to imagine how you feel- so come on! Let it all out!”
“....You’ll do it also?”
“I’ll even take the breath with you!”
Stuck between a rock and a hard place- no. No, he wasn’t. You were giving him an option, not trying to push him into a scenario he may have not wanted to put himself in. Gazing upon him with kindness, grip encouraging but loose, allowing him a way out if he really didn’t want this.
Wild really began to understand the Traveller’s protective nature over you, he really did because he in a way felt it too. You weren’t like a lot of people he had met during the years of his reemergence- the people saw him as a warrior, the one to cut down the malice that Ganon had cursed over his home, purging safety from the innocent and leaving the once prestige Hyrule into ruin. The hero was supposed to be strong, he was meant to be brave- and that was all. Obedient to a T.
But that wasn’t you, was it?
No, he saw how softly you looked at them all- with a fondness of a friend who wanted only good things for them after a lifetime of struggle and anguish. You talked to them as if they were any other person, even with those starstruck eyes you still joked about with them, sent them cheek and remained, what he guessed was, your normal self even in the presence of ‘Hyrule’s Greatest Heroes!’. Hell, your quick to blossom relationship with the Sailor was hilarious in itself, no restraint held as you tripped one another about or hurled insults only to giggle to yourselves after.
Usually, the first reaction to a hero was for someone to ask about their journeys, their adventures- their hardships. You simply threw what they had come to perceive as the social norms out the window and continued on without even a curious brow their way.
There weren’t many of you in Hyrule- in any of the Hyrules and he wasn’t about to lose you.
You both faced the rising sun.
You took in your breath once again- the man followed suit.
Then, without a moment of hesitance-
You both screamed.
-----
“Your heart sings of a tale of sadness, dear hero.”
From atop the great heights of Dueling Peaks, the Hero of the Wild snapped out of his daze. His eyes, which had been focused on the swirling malice storm surrounding the great towers of Hyrule Castle, pulling away to look upon the hanging blue skies, watching the clouds fly by silently.
“I’m not sad.” He responded after a moment, quiet and restrained.
You ignored the comment.
“I get it, you know? They dropped bricks on your legs and then told you to start running- why wouldn’t you be sad? Be angry? Why wouldn’t you want to be mad at the whole world?”
His hands tightened into fists at his sides, voice holding warning. “(Name).”
“You want it all to stop, don’t you? The fighting, the malice- you hate hearing the mere word of Ganon but more importantly you hate how everyone keeps mentioning your life 100 years ago-”
“SHUT UP!”
He didn’t need to be told how he felt, he didn’t need to be told who he fucking was. Wild knew who he was! He knew what he wanted to be! But people kept pushing this narrative onto him- this life! He didn’t want to be the hero anymore! He wanted to appreciate the life around him, the beauty of it all! But he couldn’t do that with all this pressure!
“...Scream.”
Through his huffs, he narrowed his eyes in confusion. “What-”
“Scream, let it all out.”
“I’m not gonna-”
“Stop thinking for once, Link! Just do what you need to do! Yell! Cry! Curse! Do it all until your voice is hoarse! Not a soul will hear it from above the clouds! You. Need. This. Now scream.”
He hesitated.
You didn’t.
“For the love of the Goddesses- SCREAM YOU FUCKING FOOL!”
The man flinched at your authoritative tone, eyes widening at the sound of the pure pleading accompanying it before you were speaking again.
“I’ll do it with you!” You bargained, “Just let. It. Out!”
One second.
Two seconds.
Three seconds-
The Hero felt his chest expand with the deep breath he took, your own gasp following in suit as he stood to his full height, looking down at the sight of Ganon’s Domain with nothing but a burning hatred in his eyes, fists once again tightening when finally he opened his mouth.
And along with him, you both screamed until you could scream no longer.
-----
“-ild? Wild!?”
You were holding him by the cheeks when he finally phased back in, face way closer than it should have been as you looked over his form carefully, your mouth moving at a speed, way too fast most could comprehend- but he did.
Of course, he did, he had known that frantic ramble for as long as he could remember.
And by the Goddess had he missed it so.
“You there!?” You yelped when he finally sighed, his glazed eyes returning to their usual beautiful shade with a few blinks as you brought him close, hugging him with the strength almost mustered from a Moblin while you rocked him side to side. “Oh God, don’t scare me like that-”
A choke fell from your mouth when the hero hugged you back two times as strong, almost lifting you from how close he had dragged you to his form. There was no space between your bodies, you were being squeezed with everything he had, held close like it had been lifetimes since he had last seen you. Face buried into your neck, you shivered at his warm breaths before you patted gently at his back, wheezing.
“Are…you…okay?”
A sob.
There was a sob, a heavy sob, one that made your heart clench and your own eyes water from the pure emotion behind his next words.
“You came back.”
That was all you needed to hear before the smile grew taunt on your face and the hug was returned just as fondly as it was given.

The chains most powerful members in each category
This is a top 3 list. There are different categorys and I'll be explaining my reasoning for each links placement.
Physical strength
Twilight
I shouldnt have to explain this one, raised on a farm, he carrys around heavy objects with ease, has enough power to wrestle and defeat full grown Gorons. And yeah, he used the metal boots but that was just for his weight. He has the strength to wrestle approximately 150 pounds of rock. All with no strength boosters.
Wild
My man needs the upper body strength for both climbing and leaping up mountains, holding all his body weight on the paraglider for long stretches of time, and carrying heavier objects. He's got nothing on twilight and his goron wrestling but he can hold his own.
Wind
This one might come as a surprise but makes sense if you think about it. Wind comes next with his history of needing strength when it comes to sailing, and also pulls stunts like hanging by his hands off narrow cliffs, and picking up weapons twice his body weight with relative ease. (He doesn't weigh that much which makes the last one seem a little less impressive)
Combat skills
Time
Honestly, I was going to put twilight here because I just love the combat mechanics in that game. But I'm trying not to be biased and after some thought, technically time taught twilight everything he knows, therefore this spot goes to time.
Wild
&
Warriors
I was torn between warriors and wild for second, for the reasons that, Warriors had to be good enough to be a war captain, but then wild was Zelda's personal body guard and bested full grown man at about 8. The spot would go to wild, if I was sure how the memory thing worked. Cause it depends whether he remembers how to fight like that or not. But eventually I decided Wild, exceeds in strategy, he has to learn how to quickly and quietly take his opponent down with out causing to much damage to him self. Where as warriors it is just brute strength and training
Magic (I'm not counting items or gifted power like the Champions abilities or midnas warping)
Hyrule
He can turn into a fairy and heal people as well as all his other magic shenaniganry. (I'm not well informed about his magic stuff)
Time
time can turn into the hero's shade and technically the golden wolf as well, without assistance.
Legend
He can turn into a rabbit that's his main thing excluding all items, the bar was set way higher then I meant to put it but legend got the qualifications (barely)
Agility (items+power included)
Wild
Flurry rushes, parrys, bullet time, insane stamina. He jumps on lynals backs mid fight, gets bucked off, and still lands on his feet. Also hes one of the few links who can jump.
Twilight
Wild form: big jumps, Overall speed, his jumping ability in wolf form can jump much farther then a normal person
Human form: backflips, quick in general then we have the fact that he's just very agile in general as a person.
Legend
Pegasus boots, Roc’s feather, legend is also one of the few links who can both sprint and jump. And arguably more impressive, he can do both at the same time, allowing for much larger leaps.
IQ
Sky
Sky is the only link to have any sort of formal education at the Knight's Academy. So we can assume that he would be the most intelligent of the Links.
Twilight
With how difficult the puzzles were and the fact that he pieced together a entire forgotten language, we can assume twilight is pretty smart. Despite that, he had hardly any education. Making him outshined by sky.
Hyrule
Hyrule Becomes a skilled sorcerer in Zelda 2. And completes both quests with only a handful of hermits vaguely telling him the direction of where to go.
Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.
#linked universe#legend of zelda#my god this took me so long#My brain is actually tired#i put my soul into this#I would like to thank my friend who had to listen to me ramble about this for 3 hours straight#They are a good friend#props to them#im totally over thinking this

Chain Love Language Headcanons
Masterlist
Self explanatory people!
This time I’ll dive a bit into what love languages the chain will be most inclined to exhibit to their loved ones.
First ones are the ones I personally headcanon and the second are the second result of taking this quiz in their stead.
Let’s go down the list!
Hyrule
I’ve talked about this already, multiple times actually, but oh well.
His biggest way to show his love for others is through Physical Touch.
Whether it’s a hand on the shoulder or an arm around you or hugs or hand holding- you name it- he’ll do it.
The next biggest thing would probably be Quality Time.
He doesn’t have a lot of friends and he has low enough confidence to almost expect to be brushed aside and forgotten- sometimes he tries to let it happen on purpose.
So take the time to listen to him and include him on things and be close to him.
He appreciates it when someone takes the time to pay attention to him and wants to do something with him even if it’s as simple as checking out an old cave or what shined in the distance.
Be his travel buddy, yeah?
Twilight
Twilights would be Acts of Service.
He likes to feel helpful and useful and knows that there’s a lot that he’s capable of doing so he might as well be the one to do it.
He doesn’t want the people he cares about to work too hard or struggle so he offers his assistance whenever he can. (Watch for this, he can be prone to double book himself and take on more than he can chew).
The next biggest thing would probably be Quality Time.
It’s special for him when he can be with someone he cares about and do something or nothing and just exist next to each other.
He like to listen to people when they talk about things and when they listen to him in return just because they want to- even if neither of you know or care about wat the other person is talking about.
Or even if you get to do something together, anything.
Fishing, horse back riding, strolling through Kakariko Village, hiking- just spend time with him.
Four
Four’s love language would be Acts of Service as well.
He’s a man who always has to have his hands moving. He’s always doing something- he always has to be productive- he has to always be making something.
So he’s quick to put himself to work so that the people he cares about don’t have much to worry about. His brain works too fast for him to keep up with some stuff and he naturally shoulders a lot of work anyway. And if someone helps him out with a project he was struggling with of with the chores around the house that he wasn’t to attend to?
Well he’s bound to repay you tenfold.
He doesn’t make the rules just abides by them.
The next biggest thing would probably be Gift Giving/Receiving.
If this boy receives gifts of any kind he’s going to treasure them forever.
It’s going to go on display (if it can).
and since he’s always on the move with his projects, he’s going to constantly be making things for his friends and loved ones. Small things, big things, things they need to work with or repairing their tools and so on- or just getting them new ones all together- you name it.
Legend
Legend’s love language I think would fit best under Quality Time.
He doesn’t have a lot of friends, he doesn’t have a lot of family.
His whole life has been making connections and losing them either through circumstance or through the passage of time- his life has been nothing but goodbyes.
He cherishes the moments he gets to spend with the people he cares about.
Please spend time with him.
His second would probably be Words of Affirmation.
Similarly with the first one, he’s used to being on a deadline, a set amount of time he can spend with a person and he’s tired of getting to the end and looking back and wishing he could have said something different and or told them something else.
He’s quiet when he tells others that he cares about them- he’s got a large pride that keep him from screaming from the rooftops, but he appreciates it when he’s told that people care about him.
He gets in his head that he’s not good enough, that people don’t care and he’s going to be on his own time and time again.
Please tell him you love him and care about him.
He doesn’t have any one to tell him that they’re proud of him.
If he says that he cares about you, he means it.
Wild
Wild’s love language would probably be Words of Affirmation.
A lot of people write him as being the quietest of the group but hear me out.
He still communicates and he’s loves so much, and he’s not going to be silenced anymore in what he thinks either through sign or his voice.
He’ll tell others he loves then, cares about them, that he’d do anything for them and he’d tell them often.
It means more to him if others tell him something of equal of greater value.
He didn’t get to hear a lot of praise and acceptance growing up and even less so when he joined the guard. It was always things he was expected to do and he had to do it without complaint.
Let him know you care.
His second love language would probably be Quality Time.
He’s spent a lot of time on his adventure alone.
And he wants to share the so much of the world he got to experience with the people he cares about.
He’s lost a lot of people close to him as well and he doesn’t want to take anyone else’s time on earth for granted. It once seemed like they would be around him forever, but now?
He wants to do everything and see everything and he wants to show you as well.
Even if it’s a simply as horseback riding together or just chilling out as it rains- or he goes to catch frogs in the river, he just wants to spend time with the people he cares about, he happens to have a lot of it now so he wants to put it to good use.
Time
Time’s love language would be Receiving/Giving Gifts.
He didn’t get a lot of things for himself as a child and the things that were given to him were of high importance.
It was ingrained in him to cherish and protect the things given to him with his life if need be. He’s more appreciative of the little things though when people give him a small gift that reminded them of him.
Smaller gifts over one large is more his speed.
He doesn’t need much to be happy but he likes giving things to others as a way of showing his love and hoping that they’ll cherish them as much as he cherishes the things he receives.
His second love language would probably be Acts of Service.
He’s always felt the need to be useful and there’s little that he can do.
Besides his time and energy is another way to give someone a gift right?
Even if it’s not the physical sense where he would have close to nothing to actually give you, he might as well give his strength and body and power to those he loves, to protect them, to make sure they’re safe and warm and never needing anything- so that they’re never without.
Don’t let him over work himself because he will.
Warrior
Warrior’s love language would be Act of Service.
He has a weird relationship with it though.
Because it’s always with underlying feeling of still not being enough- there’s more for him to do, everyone is relying on him and he can’t fail his loved ones so he has to give it his all in everything.
He doesn’t even realize he’s doing it more than have the time so you’re going to have to tell him to calm down. He just everyone he loves to be safe and happy and healthy and it ends up running him ragged half the time.
That being said, his second love language is Words of Affirmation.
Because he’s working so hard for the people he loves, he would rather hear that they’re proud of him and that they love him.
He’s quick to sprout pet names and sweet nothings to his lover and he wants them to know that he cares about them so this guy doesn’t shut up about his love ever.
He’d leave a note for them to find their work place to let them know that he cares about them.
And he tells them daily.
He’s quick to tell people how much he appreciates them and how important they are to him.
He knows it keeps people going and he never wants to see his loved ones give up.
Wind
Wind’s love language would be Physical Touch.
He’s always hugging someone or holding onto their arms or their hands, it’s just how he like to be close to people.
His sister tends to grab onto his hand at random intervals so he’s used to it and even grows into doing it to other people.
It’s how he shows that he feels safe with people and how he wants to keep those he cares about within reach in case he ever needs to protect them.
His second love language would be Quality Time.
There’s not a whole of people out on the sea and he’s spend a good portion of his adventures traveling alone and even then, it’s just him, his grandma and his sister.
With everyone going out to do their own thing, it’s hard to find someone who will take the time to do things with him so he appreciate any and every bit of attention he can get from other people.
Sky
Sky’s love language would be Receiving/Giving Gifts.
People on Skyloft are not shy about showing affection for one another.
Handholding and hugs and just telling people you’re important to them are all common place.
It’s not a big deal.
But Sky like to go the extra step beyond to give the people he cares about a small token of his love, so that even when he’s not around to say it, or show it, it’s a little reminder that he cares about them.
And yes, this implies he’d little love notes around for his love to find just because he wants to.
His second love language would be Quality Time.
He just likes being around people and it’s the time when he can tell and show people that he care about them.
It’s the time where he can say he cares and hug the people he cares about- they don’t even have to be doing anything- for all they could be doing is going flying together as the sun sets- he lives for the little moments.
Definitely the kind of guy to be up in the kitchen at 3 am, slow dancing with his lover as they take a break from making cookies.

I keep meaning to draw this but never get around to it so!!! Modern Zelda AU where HW is an elaborate series of DnD games. (a lot of this is just random modern au hcs lol)
They're all college or grad school age so 18-24 and go to the same school/live in the same city if they're not studying
(for instance Ghirahim dropped out but it's cool he got a modeling contract at the same place Midna works)
Lana is the DM, she's great at it. She got Link, Proxi, Zelda, and Impa to join her party and they're the core group. Midna and Fi also frequent sessions.
Ruto, Darunia (who's older and a professor not a student), Agitha, Ravio etc. come and go for oneshots
Cia, Lana's sister, is the DM for the other team made up of Volga (had no choice), Wizzro (also had no choice), Zant (forced into playing), Ghirahim (surprisingly, willingly), and Ganondorf (also willingly). Cia is a terrible DM and Gan takes over eventually
Ghirahim, however, considers it beneath him to actually learn the rules. He only plays as dark elf sorcerers and refuses to try anything else
Fi made her own homebrew class/race combo of sword spirit and tried to get Ghirahim to join her but he called her a nerd
Volga sticks to dragonborns of course
Volga and Wizzro quit when Gan took over and there's a whole bunch of drama about it
Sometimes they all join to make one large party and it's hell
Gan, Link, and Zelda have a side game but they don't tell anyone about it
Link has a shit ton of cousins and they're all the other Links. yes they are all named Link it's a family name. HW is THE Link to his friend group and the rest go by nicknames, but his cousins call him a nickname as well (Hyrule)
Linkle is Link's twin but she's not into DnD, she just likes making OP Mary Sue type characters
Link and Linkle are adopted but still look a lot like the rest of their family
(other non canon games are also adopted)
Various Links (i.e. all the alt costumes) visit. Wild sometimes joins their DnD group but he's got his own back in his home town (the champions)
There is only one Zelda who is also Sheik but Tetra and Hylia are separate people. Hylia is Zelda's mom and Tetra and Hilda are her cousins
Fi and Ghirahim are siblings
Midna and Zant are cousins
Zelda/Sheik and Impa are girlfriends. Zelda is genderfluid they/she girl/agender but is okay with fem language
Fi and Midna have crushes on each other but there's nothing there yet
Midna and Ruto are exes
Zant is in love with Gan but it's weird to the point of obsession and extremely unrequited
Cia thought she had the biggest crush on Link but that was her choosing the hot guy at school and decided she had a crush on him but she's a lesbian and ends up with Linkle instead
Ghirahim is a whore and has dated/hooked up with (including but not limited to) Zant, Volga, Gan, 2 different Links, and Cia before they both knew they were gay
Link (HW) and Ghirahim HATE each other they are bitter exes that cannot be in the same room
He did not know Link and Sky were cousins. "oh great my ex's cousin is my other ex fml"
Link also has a long list of exes but they were mostly amicable relationships. Ghirahim makes enemies
#i drew it once#dnd au#i think that was my tag?#anyway#Hyrule Warriors#skyward Sword#breath of the wild#link#zelda#ghirahim#fi#cia#lana#midna#zant#ganondorf#volga#wizzro#ruto

Please do more of the writing head canons. It’s really interesting to see other people’s ideas on the topic, so if you can be bothered, I would highly appreciate more, thanks bye <3
Y’all don’t know how happy I am to talk about these headcanons, they are my babies and I love them so much :’) thanks for asking g <3
Handwriting Headcanons
Same dynamic as before, try to guess whose handwriting it is before reading and tell me how many you got right! <3
You can find the first post here (no need to check it tho)
Quick disclaimer: halfway through making my initial notes, I remembered I had one (1) single lesson of graphology in my applied linguistics class, but that was a year ago and some information might be off. I just thought it was neat to include.
Another quick disclaimer: I don’t know much about Hylian, but I like to think it has a similar stroke system to Japanese, so the pressure and accuracy of your strokes play a major role in your handwriting (among other things, ofc.) so there are some parts where I focus more on that
(First Row, from left to right)
Sky
Our first boy is mother hen! Believe it or not, he has the prettiest handwriting out of all of them! Sky: probably has nice, even elegant handwriting because Sun forced him to practice when they were little. In the end, that paid off because his handwriting is the prettiest one. There’s no pressure, but he is confident in what he writes that his lines aren’t thin. Mistakes? what is that? this boy has impeccable grammar and spelling. No mechanic errors to be found in his letters! I’d like to think that many of Hyrule’s classic/staple poems were originally written by the firt king aka sky child. Like, imagine, after a retiring from being a Person of Power (as the first ruler), Sky finds comfort in the arts: revisits his old woodcarvings and starts writing poetry about the world he still doesn’t fully understand. wowie. tldr: sky writes poetry and you can pry it from my cold dead hands.
This is what one of his letters would look like:
Next one is the one and only, our Hero of Time
2. Time
I’ll die on the “Time didn’t know how to read and write” hill. His handwriting is simple, not pretty but not messy. It has some grammar and spelling mistakes here and there. Can become unreadable if writing in a hurry, he sorts of forgets spaces between words are a thing/letters have different sizes and lowercase letters end up the same size as capital letters. I’m not saying he sometimes forgets to write articles: he just doesn’t want to. Honestly, he just has this dad-neat handwriting. He is a gentle dad and writes like a dad, if he puts too much pressure onto the paper, his handwriting become too sharp/angle-ish and ends up looking ugly. And as much as he would like to not care about it, in the end he does (:
Malon taught him how to write and it was quite the experience. At first he didn’t want to because he was ‘too old’ to learn and it was torture at first, but now look at him devouring his cowboy novels.
A chunk of his handwriting:
*sniff* such a dad quote.
3. my mansss, your 4x1 deal at Target: Four
Look, my boy is patient! He could do some nice and fancy lettering if he wanted to. He was taught that handwriting and spelling said a whole lot about him as a person, you know, like a first impression kinda thing; so he always proof reads more than twice before sending a letter. Super rare grammar mistakes.
The faster he writes, the more slant his writing becomes. Under stress/ when not sure how to write things down, run-on sentences are everywhere and his handwriting is inconsistent in general (I don’t headcanon each part of him having completely different handwriting because handwriting becomes muscle memory over time. It’s just slightly different variations of the same, like idk Vio’s handwriting is neater than Green’s and Red writes hearts instead of any dot/circle and no, I do not take constructive criticism on that, jk i do.) Adding on to each of the colours’ handwriting, I’d think Red and Green write with words slanted to the right( inclined), Vio is a mix of the opposite, so reclined and straight, and my mans blue a true neutral writes straight (kinda like Time’s).
The logic behind this is that inclined writing supposedly means honesty and need for giving (and getting) affection; reclined means, as you can probably imagine, defensiveness and repression of true feelings, but also shows great concentration; straight handwriting means self-control, observation and reflection as well as distrust and indifference. But as complete being (tm), Four just writes as in the image example which is not too straight and not too inclined, and I believe that’s a good middle for him
HOWEVER, if I’m feeling in the mood for crack, I totally accept this boy to have the ugliest, chicken scratches-looking handwriting! :’D It’s just funny to think that someone like him, who has to be precise and careful in his work, can't write neatly to save his life.
One of his letters would look like this:
Also I just LOVE how his hero titles look in this font ksksks
and that’s
(Middle row, from left to right)
4.- Mister Bunny Boy - Legend
His uncle taught him how to write. I’d call his handwriting pretty and neat at a first glance, but he presses too hard on the paper, most of the time staining the back or the following page. Sometimes will retrace some words if he doesn’t like how it looks (which only makes it messier). According to my notes, a thick or strong handwriting represents determination/commitment.
As I also headcanon him to know many languages, mechanical errors are more present than grammar ones; that is, weird capitalisation of words. Punctuation is somewhere in between; uses too many commas when he should just cut the sentence. he mixes punctuation from two languages or more in writing when too distracted (or too focused, because, well, pressure.); when he writes for himself, he has almost no problem following said language’s punctuation rules. Also, this is just polyglot culture, and I’m projecting a bit, but when he forgets a word in the language he’s writing, he just replaces it with its equivalent in another language because we don’t care about fluency, but rather functionality. in this household (more on that in my language hc, ksksks).
An example of his writing:
so powerful
4.- Mr. Wolfman, howl me a song - Twilight
I don’t have much for him because 1) I don’t think he writes a lot and 2) he is a hands-on/visual learner, I’ll die by that. He only learnt how to write because Ulli insisted it was important and he was not about to disrespect his momma; he IS That Guy, but doesn’t really write enough to have neat handwriting.
Many people seem to overlook the fact that his house is filled with books and write him as completely illiterate (which if not explored properly, ends up feeling a bit disrespectful and full of prejudice, but go off I guess; and that’s on my core Headcanons for Twi); however, he sticks to simple sentences. Knowing how to read and understanding a text is different from knowing how to write them. Like, when we would see a semicolon and understand its position in the text, but didn’t understand the nature of it. Is this clear? idk i’m sorry. So yeah, boy reads a lot, writes very little.
As for his Actual Handwriting, as opposed to Legend, his handwriting is thiccc but not because he presses into the paper; he is just that messy, he has no sense of ink-flow-control, he does what he can with what he has. To the untrained eye, his handwriting illegible letters like v, n, u are very similar; when he makes notes for himself he does it in the form of doodles or small ‘icons’. But! He reads a lot, so he rarely makes spelling mistakes (: he is your go-to guy when you don’t know how to write a word.
An example of his writing:
He keeps a journal, sue me.
3. My first born- Warrior
Okay, first off... I accept this is completely biased. I saw the idea and said “That’s True”. If you haven’t, please read Effective Communication; or The Lack of Thereof by htruona, a fic where the boys reflect on the language barriers between them. It’s incredibly funny and probably what made me start making these silly notes. So, if you’ve read that fic, you know where I’m going.
My man, Warrior, can’t fucking write. I mean, he physically can, but it’s very bad. Here’s the reason for it, tho, and it’s not his fault: Technically, he knew how to write alright but he joined the military and whatever note he had to write had to be concise or in the worst case coded. He mixes capital and lowercase letters. If we consider that he joined the military at around 15, his handwriting and grammar had yet to continue developing. Just think about how after summer break, your handwriting was always slightly worse than before because you didn’t write for an entire month. Now think what 2 years can do to that. Hmm, not cool, dude. He makes quick notes, when writing he’s all gotta go fast. he is the lighting mcqueen of writing; good for emergency messages, not ideal for love letters. His punctuation also suffered a lot, he only know full stops and commas and hardly uses them. A sentence for him is either one word or fifty without a single comma, no inbetween.
His hero title and an example of his writing.
(Bottom row, or what I like to call “fuck cursive” row)
7.- Magic man - Hyrule
I’m basic and I do agree with the popular headcanon of he not knowing how to write because well, y’all know his Hyrule. He only knows how to write his name because that’s important, same with numbers. I don’t see why would he write/read except checking the roadsigns. (he can even use this as an excuse for getting lost frequently; he thought it said something different.) But I do think that because his habitual reading consists of roadsigns, his ‘punctuation’ is weird af and places full stops/points/periods at the same level of his words and his commas/question/exclamation marks below them. Yk, creative license. Sadly, I don’t have much about my magic hands man so here’s what his writing would look like if he actually wrote a paragraph:
Man, I love Hyrule.
8.- Man, I don’t understand this boy - Wild
Cursive? ain’t nobody have the time for that. He woke up and had to save the world in his underwear while not knowing how to read nor write. He learnt during his journey and was taught by multiple people from different regions, that explains his inconsistent spelling of things and names for them. So Wild knows language variations for many items and uses them interchangeably (even if they aren’t exactly the same). Another headcanon related to writing/language skills that I’ve been thinking about is that if the shrine was able to cause amnesia, I’m sure there were other areas in the brain affected which leads us to language disorders such as agraphia and aphasia. But that’s a story for another day ksksksk
An example of his writing (after relearning)
9.- The best of sons - Wind
I don’t have much for him and that makes me sad. Look, he’s a kid, doing kid things like stabbing dudes on the head. This boy was taught cursive by his grandma, but could never do it and no one needs it anyway. His handwriting is good enough for his pirate life, Tetra is the one to handle Official stuff, he just gotta sign. Spelling and grammar mistakes abound. He is still relatively young and can correct his handwriting if he desires. But same as Wild, with how many times he’s been thrown out and hit his head, I’m starting to consider some language disorder for him as well.
An example of his writing:
aaand that’s it.
Thanks, y’all for showing interest in this silly thing uwu it was fun to finally talk about this. If you ever want to discuss ideas/headcanons(especially if they are related to language and culture), I’m your person (: I’m always happy to hear new headcanons. Feel free to add anything to this post either in a reply or in a reblog, I’d love to hear from y’all <3<3

Signs
Hi all! I hope you enjoy part 4 of my Hero of Wild series. For more information on the signs, please click here if you’re interested.
I just wanted to be upfront and say that this is in no way an exact portrayal of ASL or the culture surrounding it. Hylians are fictional and would therefore have different signs. I based it off of vocabulary from ASL. I know basic sign to help my fellow peers in Special Education, but I am not fluent and am only basing it loosely off of ASL and putting a twist on it I think Wild’s Hyrule would have developed over the centuries. I of course don’t know Wild’s Hyrule’s sign, so these are just my personal headcanons for how I think it would be. Thank you!
~
“I think we need to make name signs for ourselves.” Twilight pitched his idea while Sky was off distracting Wild. They were currently in Sky’s Hyrule on the surface. Wild’s first time going through a portal went well enough. He went through last with his hand on his slate. Twilight assumed it felt a little bit like a trap, that a group he didn’t know very well told him to go through a mysterious portal. Wild seemed used to strange magic at least, or whatever his slate was. Wild had told Twilight it wasn’t magic but Twilight had a hard time believing that.
It seemed their new member was similar to their traveler in the fact they had to do their best to keep them from running away to explore. Still they both often ran off the path when they saw something interesting to them, Four and Wind joining them sometimes.
Twilight had told Sky his idea of giving signs to each of them for Wild to communicate better and quicker. If he needed a specific item from someone during a fight, quick and efficient would be key. Not to mention the kid shouldn’t have to be forced to finger spell one of their names everytime. Sky smiled and told him what a great idea that was, and that he would give Wild a miniature tour while Twilight brought it up to the group. He didn’t want to spring it upon both Wild and the other Links at the same time, that just seemed like a recipe for disaster.
“Name signs? You mean in sign language?” Legend asked curiously.
“Yeah for Wild. It makes no sense to have the kid continuously fingerspell out names.” Twilight confirmed glancing over to Time.
“I’ve been meaning to ask about that. Since our nicknames are more based on nature or objects, why doesn’t Wild just use his signs? Why doesn’t he just sign Sky?” Warriors asked carefully.
“That’s a slippery slope.” Four spoke for Twilight. “That could cause confusion based on context. It would be easier to assign specific names.”
“That sounds cool but how do we do that?” Wind asked with a tilted head.
“Well when I was working with my grandfather, a girl my age and her family came in. She couldn’t hear very well so her family learned sign. Her father talked to my grandfather about it. Apparently it’s easiest if you take a personality or a defining characteristic, like a personality or hair color or something, and have a twist to it. Her name was Lily, so they signed the sign for a lily flower with the sign for I think happy in front of it? I don’t remember very well but it’s like that.” Four spoke up. The others nodded in interest and began whispering about what their signs could be.
“That’s a good idea. Should we just do our hero titles and a defining trait?” Warriors asked.
“That sounds fine, but we should probably ask Wild what he wants since he will be the main person using them.” Time spoke up, to which the group all agreed.
“Okay well I sent Sky off with him. I didn’t want to spring this upon everyone at once.” Twilight stated, barely resisting beaming when Time nodded in approval.
“Good idea, Pup.” Time smiled as the group descended into evening chatter once again. It hadn’t been a hard day of travel, but it had been longer than usual to find a space Sky deemed safe enough. For now the group settled down for the evening.
~
Wild didn’t know why Sky was distracting him but he played along for now, doing well to hide his nerves. Maybe he had done something wrong? Something the group hadn’t liked? Sky seemed too nice to be leading him to his execution, but maybe that was the point. Sky seemed too nice in general. He was far too warm and accepting to him, especially right away. He wasn’t an idiot, he knew the others stared at his scars when they thought he wasn’t looking. Had the Master Sword told Sky of his failure? Perhaps the group knew of him dying 100 years ago, and they were going to take care of him before it happened again.
It was a shame. Wild liked them so far, especially Twilight. He seemed so warm and willing to help. And Hyrule seemed similar to Wild in their love of exploring. And Four was accepting of almost anyone, no matter what. Was it all a facade? Knowing Wild’s luck it certainly was. He didn’t think they were Yiga, the Master Sword soothed those fears and told Wild to trust them without using any words at all. Yet that was before they truly knew him. Had the Master Sword changed its mind?
If he was ambushed by the very group he was supposed to trust, fellow Heroes of Courage, he knew a part of him would die. Even if he didn’t know them very well, they were a part of his past, present, and perhaps his future. Incarnations of the same soul passed down and changed for millenia. If they deemed Wild unworthy, he would move on, but a deep part of him would remember and always feel pain that his own past incarnations hated him.
Still for now he listened to Sky talk about his Hyrule. If he wasn’t so deep in his thoughts he would find it more fascinating, but he had plenty to bring back to Zelda. If he made it back to her. Another wave of fear swept over him. What if the group was the only way to get to other worlds? He couldn’t make portals appear on a whim! According to Time, Hylia herself even seemed to struggle to put them in the right place! If they ambushed him, he would fight and he would run. But would he be trapped in a distant Hyrule forever, centuries apart from the Goron, Rito, Gerudo, Zora, and most importantly Zelda? If he had no way to return to his Hyrule that he knew and loved, he would be trapped in this warped reality, forever hunted by the real Link who lived here. Leaving Zelda to fix the kingdom he had a hand in ruining.
Wild (perhaps he wouldn’t have that name for long now, although he truly loved it), barely noticed them approaching their campsite for the evening. Wild readied his hand to launch to his slate. He wasn’t going down without a fight, but he would never attack these fellow heroes first. Wild was met with the curious eyes of the other Links around what would soon be a cooking fire.
This was it.
“So, Wild.” Twilight spoke up. Oh Hylia, why did it have to be Twilight? The very man who offered comfort after his first nightmare within the group. Had he forsaken Hylia that much? “We were talking, and we thought maybe you could teach us some more of your sign? Since it’s changed so much over the years. And maybe we could come up with name signs for each other to make communicating easier?”
Oh.
~
Wild looked genuinely shocked at the boys wanting to learn his language, which made Twilight feel far more sad than he was expecting. Between his distrust of any other Hylians and his shock at someone wanting to communicate with him in his own way, it was clear that there had been many people who had hurt Wild.
‘You don’t have to.’ Wild signed, snapping out of his shock.
“We want to Wild.” Wind reassured, along with the rest of the group. Wild could feel his face warming up, not knowing what to say. He thought they were going to hunt him!
“Um. Well we were thinking you could teach us how to say our hero titles, and then we could all choose a personality or physical trait that defines us? And we could combine them to make the name sign? It’s completely up to you, it’s just an idea.” Twilight pitched.
‘...are you sure?’ Wild signed hesitantly. He didn’t want to make any trouble within the group.
“Yeah Wild! It sounds fun anyway!” Wind exclaimed, attempting to dial up his excited tone to assure Wild they were happy to do it.
‘Okay. Thank you.’ Wild signed as heartfelt as he could. The rest of the team smiled at the boy’s acceptance.
“Are you okay with the idea we had to make them?” Time asked, to which Wild simply nodded. “Okay, we’ll have you combine them, but let us know if it’s too complicated and we’ll choose something else.” Wild nodded at Time once again, signaling that was fine with him.
“Okay! Who wants to go first?” Twilight clapped his hands, glancing around the group members.
“I can. I’m fine with anything that’s not insulting.” Legend volunteered, tacking on the end when he noticed Warriors’ large smile.
“Well that’s easy! You have a pink strand of hair, and your name is Legend! Let’s combine those!” Wind said excitedly. Legend simply shrugged in acceptance.
“Wild, how do you say those?” Wild paused for a moment. Legend was a person and not a fairy tale, so he should use the sign that leaned more towards legacy and not stories. He placed his left hand, the index finger straight up, the middle finger at an angle while the rest of his fingers curled down. Making a downward stroking potion with the curved finger on his chin, mouthing pink along with the sign. Wild then formed his hands into curved triangles, pinching his fingers together. Placing his hands in front of him with the left above the right, making two motions to shift the hands from the left side of his body to the right. To his surprise the rest of the group copied it to the best of their ability, including Legend who didn’t even seem to want to participate in this.
“I’m fine with that.” Legend stated simply, confirming the sign as his. No one brought up him practicing it close to his chest for far longer than necessary.
“I assume mine is going to be Time and Old Man?” Time asked in amusement.
“Nah, we can do better than that.” Warriors smirked. “How about your ocarina? We could combine Time and music?” Warriors pitched. Time nodded, he enjoyed that well enough. He silently appreciated that it also connected him to the Kokiri.
Wild nodded and mouthed time as he moved his right hand like a dial before shifting to the sign for music, moving his right hand in a sweeping motion above his left arm cradled to his chest. The rest of the group copied, Time nodded.
“If we’re in battle, you can sign these with one hand right? The rest of us should be able to know what you’re referring to.” Four asked Wild, who smiled and nodded.
“Let’s do Four next!” Sky spoke up.
“Isn't the sign for Four still just four fingers held up?” Four asked curiously.
“Ugh that’s boring. What if you’re ‘Colors’ instead because of your tunic?” Wind questioned.
“Wind! Don’t call the Hero of Four Swords’ title boring!” Sky chided, although Four looked oddly pleased at the idea of being deemed ‘Colors’ in sign.
“I like it. Maybe with metal or blacksmithing?” Four nodded to Wild. Wild’s nose scrunched up thought, before nodding brightly. ‘Color’ he mouthed as he spread his left palm out, facing his chin as he tapped the index and middle finger against it. The rest of the group copied. Wild then moved the ‘metal’ which shifted to the hand being in a hook shape, tapping the index finger on his chin once again.
“That’s easy enough.” Four’s small smile had grown the slightest bit wider at his sign. Four was sure it wasn’t as sophisticated as a group of people who were more involved with sign could come up with, but this worked perfectly for their new team.
“Me next!” Wind waved his hand. “Well there’s wind and then… something with music! No! Something with boats! Or pirates! No the sea! That incorporates it all!” Wind yelled out his ideas in rapid succession. Wild waited until the teen finally settled on wind and sea. Wild bit his lip. That would be sort of hard to combine. He used the sign for ‘Sea’, the left palm spread out and facing to the side, tapping his index finger on his chin. Although instead of finishing the sign in the normal fashion, he shifted it to the sign for Wind, keeping his palms spread and facing each other. He then moved his hands in two little circles.
“That's perfect!” Wind exclaimed while copying the motion many more times.
Wild pointed to Warriors next.
“Oh, me next?” Warriors asked. Wild nodded, he had a good idea for Warriors. He moved his right hand in a curly zigzag with three curves. “Does that not combine anything?” Warriors asked, seemingly hiding his disappointment that it seemed not much thought was out in it. Wild bit his lip, taking out the journal Four had given him for talking around the campfire when his signs were too complicated.
‘It combines the sign for sword fight and soldier with the sign for writing. You seem to like writing and drawing in your books. Do you want a new one?’ Wild wrote on one of the pages before passing it to Warriors. Realization dawned on him as he read the pages.
“Oh! Sorry Wild I was just confused. I thought it was just a sign for sword. No, I like it!” Warriors smiled at Wild as he passed the book around for the others to see. There were a couple comments about how it fit well and how Wild was good at this, which made Wild blush lightly.
“How about me?” Sky asked after a moment of silence, being careful not to speak over anyone else.
“What do you want your characteristic to be?” Four asked. “Maybe warm? You have a very warm personality.” Four smirked at Sky’s blush.
“I was thinking maybe red? My loftwing that I told you about is crimson colored.” Sky asked Wild. “If not that's okay I can think of something else.” Wild smiled and shook his head, this one would be easy! He mouthed ‘red’, stroking his chin twice with his left index finger, the rest of his fingers curled in a fist. He then mouth ‘sky’ as he swept his arm grandly upwards towards the trees above.
“That’s pretty! Will you understand it if we use a smaller motion for the sky sign? Just if we’re in a rush?” Sky questioned. Wild thought for a minute. It was slightly similar to other signs in different contexts if the motions were smaller, but having the red in front of it would solidify what they were saying. After a few moments of thought, Wild nodded.
“For mine, maybe we should do what we did for Four and not use my hero title? Just because my name is already confusing sometimes with Hyrule the land and Hyrule me.” Hyrule spoke up, looking slightly sheepish.
“If that’s what you're comfortable with ‘Rule.” Legend reassured. “How about Traveler?”
Wild started furiously scribbling before Hyrule could confirm that he liked that name, everyone pausing to let Wild finish.
‘I don’t know traveler in sign, I can’t remember and no one ever taught me again, it’s just blank. I would usually just say yes to being a traveler or say I’m a wanderer. Sorry Hyrule.’ As if to express his apology more clearly, Wild had drawn a large sad face next to the text he had written. Wild always wrote extremely small in his book, as if not wanting to overuse the gift Four had given him. It was a nice change of pace to see something larger on the pages.
“That’s okay, Wild! I’m okay with Wanderer too!” Hyrule laughed. “What about the other sign?”
“How about magic? No one’s better at magic than you ‘Rule.” Twilight suggested, causing Hyrule to burn red.
“I mean I just needed it for my journey. It’s fun though! I like being able to take out a bunch of monsters at the same time-” Wild tuned out Hyrule’s explanation to think of how to combine those signs. He tried to make them easy and short, for both battle and for conversation. He waited until the group quieted down, turning their attention to him. He mouthed ‘wanderer’ as he swayed his right index finger back and forth. He would replace the beginning of the magic sign with that, instead of clenching his fingers together. He then mouthed ‘magic’, quickly clenching a fist and releasing it with flare, as if casting a spell on the ground below.
“I love it!” Hyrule beamed as the others repeated the sign.
“My turn I suppose?” Twilight turned to Wild, who was writing on the page again.
‘I can’t say twilight, but I can say dusk.’ The page said.
“That’s alright.” Twilight reassured.
“What’s his other name going to be?” Wind asked the group.
“Country?”
“Goats?”
“Rancher?” Wild pondered all of these suggestions. Nothing quite fit together. An idea struck Wild’s brain like lightning when he had his royal claymore out in a storm.
‘Wolf.’ Wild wrote in large letters on half of the page so everyone could see. The others looked slightly confused, but Wild simply pointed to the pelt on Twilight’s shoulders.
“Wild, are you sure?” Twilight asked, gritting his teeth slightly.
“What Wild says goes. Besides, I think it suits you just fine, Pup.” Time spoke over the others, enunciating the word ‘Pup’ with all the teasing venom he had, causing the group to roar with laughter. Twilight couldn’t believe this! Betrayed! By his own mentor! Although all of Twilight’s rage dissipated when he looked over to see Wild silently shaking with laughter. As usual the boy made no noise with his mouth, but he didn’t have to. Twilight could see the joy on his face. It struck him that he had never seen Wild laugh like that before, but it seemed natural, like he should be doing it all the time. Twilight supposed if this was the result he didn’t mind the sign so much. Besides, he secretly liked it anyway.
Wild waited for the group to calm down before making Twilight’s sign. He mouth ‘wolf’ as he formed what looked to be a snout in front of his face, keeping his thumb and index finger together, he made a circle and brought it down. Twilight actually really liked his sign, he thought it reflected him very well.
‘Thank you.’ Wild said again once they were done assigning names, being met with a chorus of ‘no problem’ and ‘of course’. Wild started to stand to make the cooking fire for dinner tonight, committing all the signs to his memory. Ever since he had joined, he had taken over the cooking in the evenings. In the mornings a lot of people did their own thing. Some made themselves a full meal, while others just ate an apple on the road later when they were actually hungry.
“Wait, Wild!” Wind piped, causing Wild to freeze. Oh no had he forgotten someone? That would be so embarrassing.
“You forgot your name sign!” Sky finished. Wild’s nose scrunched up once again, picking up the journal once again.
‘I can just refer to myself?’ Wild was confused as to why he needed one. The others seemed to be alright at talking, but maybe Wild was mistaken.
“Well yeah, but you gave us all names, it’s our turn.” Hyrule began.
“And at this point it might as well be a team thing.” Four finished. Wild’s brain went blank for a moment. A team thing? He was a part of the team now? Officially? Wild didn’t expect anything to solidify that, he was just expecting to continue to trail along like a lost puppy. Wild bit back a smile and nodded.
“Okay we have to make this one really good.”
“It at least has to involve nature.”
“And destruction.”
“Really Legend?”
“What? You saw how the guy fought that Lynel. Make his name fire or something.”
“No! It has to be something cool like morning wood or something.”
“No no no no no no no no no.”
“What why? It’s cool?”
“Wind, no!”
“But why?”
“I’ll explain when you’re older.”
“Oh fuck you!”
“What about fire and grass?” Twilight called out, halting all conversations. The group looked at him curiously. “It shows his Wild title and his Hyrule. Also he lit a shit ton of grass on fire when we met him. The group all nodded, deeming this title fighting of their new member.
“Is that okay, Wild?” Sky asked gently. Wild nodded enthusiastically. Grass and fire, some his favorite things. He mouth ‘grass’ as he tucked his thumb against his right palm, sweeping his index finger over the side of his mouth once before dragging it down in front of his chest in a circle to imitate flames.
“Perfect!” Twilight resisted clapping his hand on Wild’s shoulder. The rest of the group was fine with casual touching, Twilight had to keep reminding himself that Wild was different in that aspect. That was fine, they were figuring it out one by one.
The group settled down once again to chat while Wild cooked dinner, signing as best as they could as they talked. Even though Wild could hear them fine, it was good practice. Overall, it looked to be a peaceful evening.
“Wait, can someone do the signs for me again?”

Chapter 1
Zelda said goodbye to her ballet coach and stepped out into the sultry evening sun. A cooling breeze blew into her face and dried her sweaty face. She undid her braid and let the breeze blow through her hair. Zelda relaxed mentally and walked along the pavement. Bicyclists sped past her, twirling her white polka-dotted red summer dress. She shyly held her hem so as not to expose too much, as the dress only covered half of her thigh. She wore a white short shirt under her dress, white sporty shoes and a small bag with her ballet clothes.
The roar of cars and motorbikes deafened her ears, pedestrians shouted at each other, the paths were too crowded. Fathers and mothers with prams and people in wheelchairs were disregarded and jostled.
Dogs barked at each other while being held back with difficulty by their owners.
Zelda found the chaos too much, so she decided to take a diversion today, away from the main roads.
Fascinated, she watched the retro facades of the narrow streets, the colourful hubbub of the restaurants and the welcome invitations from the waiters to take Zelda to the restaurant. She smiled off gratefully and walked briskly along the paths.
She loved to stroll the streets after her hard ballet practice before returning home bored. As the 15-year-old pubescent daughter of a diplomat and a lawyer, the highest discipline was expected of her. It was tough, but she couldn't complain as it opened many doors for her.
When Zelda finally arrived at her front door, she sighed loudly. She knew the summer holidays were coming to an end and with it her freedom to devote herself fully to her hobbies.
Zelda moved gracefully through the corridors of the school to her classroom in her white blouse, navy blue school uniform blazer and matching skirt and was greeted warmly by her classmates, although she treated everyone equally, she felt most comfortable in the presence of her best friends Impa and Purah. The two were siblings with a year's difference, though they could be as different as night and day. While Purah was older than Impa, she was still a bright and fashionable model student in science. Impa, on the other hand, was the more sensible of the two, very well-versed in languages, politics, history and the subject of Hylia's teachings. While Zelda excelled in all subjects, the poor marks in the teachings of Hylia cast a mocking shadow over her report cards every time.
While Mipha, Robbie and Revali joined them, they were talking about their experiences of the summer holidays when the other students suddenly fell silent. It was still too early for one of the teachers, so the troop turned around curiously.
A young man about their age with blond spiky hair tied back stood in front of the blackboard and greeted everyone curtly. He stood there with his chest erect and sporting clothes, scratching the back of his head nervously.
" Are you lost Link?" asked Revali mockingly.
"Revali don't be so rude. I hope you are all right." intervened Mipha. A girl who was always sweet and polite to everyone.
"Where the heck have you been all these holidays!" blurted out Impa.
"I'm fine, thanks," Link said, giving Mipha a smile without bothering to give Revali a glance. "I've been helping out in the countryside all summer." His gaze drifted from Impa to Zelda, who paid him no attention. "Hope you didn't miss me too much." He winked at Paya , Impa's and Purah's cousin, who blushed every time Link flirted with her.
He immediately noticed that the rest of the girls were also looking in his direction, whispering and giggling amongst themselves. They couldn't be blamed, because Link had an attractive charisma, fascinating blue eyes, an athletic figure and above all something mysterious about him, which was attractive to many girls.
"Don't pretend you'll be missed, you poor beggar have to sweep up cows' shit on your farm."
He whirled around and stared renegade at Revali, running towards him, but when both grabbed each other by the collar, Sakasai intervened while Cado and Dorian held them back.
"The holidays are only over, yet you are feuding blood. Let's enjoy this year peacefully!", Sakasai soothingly talked to them. His poetic expression was able to melt even ice-cold icebergs.
Just when the situation had defused, the bell rang for the start of class and the teacher, Mr Daruk, entered the room.
"Link, Revali. As soon as you make eye contact, you bark like dogs fighting for territory in the street. I have a new seating plan here that will make sure you two sit far apart."
Mr Daruk was the linguistics and labour teacher. He was dark-skinned, broad-shouldered, with a muscular chest and a round beer belly. His white hair pointed in all directions and his full white beard went down to his stomach. He always prepared us, apart from the lessons, for the hard life after school. For which Link was particularly grateful, as he had to struggle especially hard in his neighbourhood.
"Revali, you will sit in the front row next to Mipha. Sakasai, please sit next to Paya. Link, you will sit next to Zelda." As an indignant murmur went through the class, the teacher thumped the teacher's desk, creating a silence that had never existed before. "I demand discipline! Now sit down at your assigned seats. You will see that you and your new neighbours will complement each other. Now to the order of the day..."
As he sat down, he felt how uncomfortable it was to sit next to Zelda, as she obviously couldn't stand him.
Therefore, he slid as far as he could to the edge of his chair so as not to get too close to her.
Link barely caught what the teacher was saying, he was too taken with her closeness. To keep a clear mind, he pulled his hood over his head and rested his head on his arms, which were folded on the table. He sighed. It was going to be a busy day at school, he thought to himself.
"Hey bro, you alright? Up for basketball?" asked Sidon, who was his best friend, despite the fact that he was in a different class from his year. He was a hunk and towered over him by several heads. He had red hair, like his sister Mipha, but gold-shimmering eyes. Despite his imposing and intimidating manner, he was the most likeable Hylian he knew.
"Ayyo Bro, how you doin'? Throw me the ball!"
Link took off his hoodie and bared his muscular torso. He wanted to clear his head and stop thinking about how annoyed Zelda was at his presence. He wasn't even sure why she was and assumed she was looking down on him with her domineering appearance.
The mere fact that he had put his head down on the table and was boredly playing with his pens made her breathe an annoyed sigh and tap her foot impatiently. She was also the first to immediately pack up her utensils and disappear out the door without giving him a glance.
While he was shooting baskets with his best buddies, he was joined by the rest of his friends, including Cado and Dorian, one slim and athletic, the other broadly built. More boys gathered around him, whom he knew from his neighbourhood or from his sports clubs. He greets them all with a handshake and a brotherly hug: a fist to the brother's shoulders. This is how they signal solidarity and friendship to each other.
Sometimes they were joined by Impa, who would then go up against the boys and single-handedly finish them off in every game. Impa was a girl Link liked to have around because she was unbeatable. She was like a second sister to him, whom he respected and wanted to protect at the same time.
But when Link looked out for her, he found her agog with Zelda Purah and Paya discussing something and smirked. He could only guess what they were so animatedly discussing at the moment.
"Phew, Link put some clothes on, your armpits stink big time."
Abruptly Link's mood changed, as if someone had hit him in the head with a shovel.
"It only started to smell when you got here, Revali."
The young Revali was not much taller than Link, had his hair braided into a boxer braid while two white dyed strands hung out of his braided hair. He had the eye shape of a snake and his eye colour and character were just as venomous. He was always out to make Link's life difficult and to flaunt his parents' wealth.
"Do you want to mess with me? You street dog have nothing to say to me, is that clear?" said Revali provocatively. Just like Link, he was surrounded by his boys waiting to bash each other's heads in.
"You can't do anything but play hardball, come on get lost with your wannabe gangsters."
A horde of girls from different years, cheered Link's and Revali's names as if it was some kind of competition.
Link wrinkled his nose contemptuously and stared renegiously into Revali's eyes. As a final sign of warning.
Sidon noticed the sparkling fire in the eyes of the two rivals and walked between them and stood protectively in front of Link.
"Hey yo bro, how about we settle this problem between you with a contest".
The girls who were just now cheering and gushing for Revali or Link were now screeching Sidon's name together as if his presence could put all disputes aside.
"A competition? Only if I choose the discipline. ", Revali said, but Link was about to intervene when his best friend held him back.
"We will choose three disciplines. Everyone will get one discipline they are particularly good at, while the third will remain neutral. Okay?" asked Sidon. Link nodded in agreement. Now it was up to Revali.
"On one condition, we're going to put this competition out to the whole school so everyone can watch me kick the shit out of that son of a bitch."
"Be careful what you say, we don't want your ego to be hurt anymore." Countered Link and turned away. It was already a foregone conclusion for him that he had to face his rival and win.
Zelda watched the action of the rival boys while Impa and Purah argued about which motto would be more appropriate as a house party. She squinted over at the silent Paya looking distressed at the tense troop of boys on the basketball court. Zelda followed her gaze and immediately understood her expression. It was Link, who moved away from the group and sat down on a wooden bench, running his hands through his hair.
"Paya, go to him. He will be very happy to receive emotional affection from a pretty girl, like you. He might fall in love with you after all," Zelda said hopefully.
She shyly looked Zelda in the eye and turned bright red in the face. Purah and Impa interrupted their discussion and listened in wonder.
"That's right, Paya! Go get him!" Purah, Paya's eldest cousin, motivated her. Everyone knew that Paya was crazy about Link but was too shy to talk to him.
When Paya finally decided to go to him, Impa was about to stop her, but Zelda and Purah held her back. Impa didn't like it, because she knew Link very well and also knew what his heart was like. Her gaze rested on Zelda, who was looking contentedly behind Paya. Maybe she had to get involved after all and a house party by the pool would be the best option.

A VERY DESCRIPTIVE PROFILE OF YOUR MUSE.
tagged by: Everyone tagging: Everyone
REPOST, DO NOT REBLOG, with the information of your muse, including headcanons.
NAME. Hilda of Lorule NICKNAME(S). None, unless you wanna die. Her grace is the closest you can get. She likes respectful titles to be seen as someone serious. ALIAS(ES). Forsaken Princess, Failure, Princess of Lorule, heir to the throne, etc etc take your pick AGE. 20 SPECIES. Human don’t be fooled by Elf Ears, it’s lore related reasons for hearing the gods hweoh she more than likely descended from the god who protected Lorule before reincarnating as mortal. Legend and I decided to call this god: Lorin. My guy, we have a lot of lore cooked up ;v; ZODIAC. Oh you know my ass made her Scorpio-dragon after reading about it, chinese zodiac goes by years rather than months but I’m sticking by it hmph! It’s hard to place her in the right zodiac that fits either way... because I am Stupid™ with zodiac honestly. GEMSTONE. THIS ONE I’M NOT STUPID BECAUSE I HAVE INTEREST IN GEMSTONE AND MEANINGS SINCE I WAS BABY. I... actually collect rocks and stones hweoh, living up to my name. I’d have to go with goldstone for the meaning behind it! She is in desprate need of an Infinite stone tho. And also insert blood MORAL ALIGNMENT. Oof, best way I can put it? Morally Grey, she has good intentions, but has pretty questionable methods. Post-ALBW... well, less of that but the good intentions stay behind! Hildy is a good person at the end of the day! I mean, she isn’t an anti-villain for no reason after all! ABILITIES / POWERS. Barrier and sealing magic, like Princess Zee-Zee. And has pretty good PSI such as teleportation either to other places or to a small pocket of space, telepathy with little to no limits, and being able to see anywhere across her lands granted with limited range to her vision. Since she knows Lorule like the back of her hand, she’ll know what location someone’s at. Uh, whatever is the mirror version of Light magic. Her magic has a darker aesthetic than Zelda’s gold magic in-game, I think it might be light magic with just different coloring, but dark magic could be at play here too. Hyrule and Lorule do share some things, however, both have their own differences too. It’s why Ravio isn’t just Dark Link or Hilda Dark Zelda. They are literal inverted folk from their Hylian counterparts. So, something to come back to! INTERESTS. Fairytales... surprising, right? You wouldn’t expect something like that from someone like her. She likes reading stories of glory days where the hero triumphs over whatever evil they need to defeat with things working out well in the end. It’s pretty symbolic and feeds into her hope that soon, eventually, Lorule will have their happy ending as well once she (the hero) manages to return the triforce to the lands. She likes drinking and collecting various teas, flower arranging is always relaxing provided she can find nice ones or the time, cooking is also relaxing to her. And she adores chess, playing against herself or anyone who wants to play. She also likes work too, she values productivity so it always feels nice to see hard work getting done right. Likes to play the lute uvu FEARS. Absolute and utter destruction. It’s not failure, although that is the major source of her anxiety, nope! It’s destruction of her home and being out of time. It’s why I’ll always applaud her for her actions at the end of the game. To make things right, she gives up everything and... oh good lord I’m about to cry over ALBW ending let me stop here. Disappointment is also a big fear too though.
GUILTY PLEASURES. SADLY NOT ROMANCE GIRL IS FUCKING HOPELESSLY DUMB WITH ROMANCE SHE’S A DEPRESSED, EDGY WORKAHOLIC AND ALL THAT. Needlework. She sucks at it but likes to do a little needlework, nonetheless. Also, she does love cutesy things/people. Rabbits, dogs, and birds being her favorite animals. Namely ravens but, yanno... she has a soft spot though. I guess her fairytale readings and daydreaming of a hero to save the day can be considered this too! She’d die if anyone were to find out hweoh. SPOKEN LANGUAGES. MAN I HAVE NO CLUE, Lorule is different from Hyrule yet they seem to understand each other just fine. So whatever language Hylian fuck it. PROFESSION. Heiress of the throne... aka... princess. It’s her job to run her country as best as she can. Lord knows she’s trying, it’s hard when almost everything is corrupted. From the nobles, the royal court, some of her people, the lands themselves. Not everyone is, there are people who do help out in her court.
BODY TYPE. Taller than average, she has a medium body frame, and she’s actually willowy. Some curves I guess not being completely lanky but... she... graceful swan lady ;v; HEIGHT. 5′7″ COLORS. Purple, gold, white, red DRINKS. Ginger tea, she doesn’t like anything sweet, red wine for edgy aesthetic reasons not that she drinks much of that, she’s more of a tea kinda gal. ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES? See above SMOKE? Hell no REPOST, DO NOT REBLOG, with the information of your muse, including headcanons.

Sleep
I had LOADS of fun writing this 10k masterpiece with @jinmukangwrites. She’s an amazing writer and if you haven’t heard of her I suggest you check out her blog.
Inspired by a post made on @linkeduniversetweets (asked by @toschiworlds)
Brief spoiler-free summary: The Links spend a few days at Lon Lon Ranch during which Time manages to get himself concussed.
Enjoy
The Links had endured countless battles, vicious monsters, cascades of blood, and cold, unforgiving nights in the wilderness for several months but what laid before them offered the heroes a vital reprieve.
Blue skies and a gentle breeze greeted the Hero of Time when he climbed the small hill leading to his home in the early afternoon. The sun shone brightly upon him, almost unbearably warm, but a comforting feeling nonetheless. The smell of hay perfumed the air and left a lingering sweetness. But the sight of the woman that greeted him made the experience one hundred times sweeter. Time swung Malon once before leaning in and leaving a gentle kiss on her lips, relishing the bliss the reunion brought. The pair embraced and the remaining heroes either coed over the joyous moment or turned away to give the couple their privacy.
“I’ve missed you,” Time whispered into Malon’s shoulder. Malon could only barely stop herself from tearing up at her elation at hearing her husband’s voice.
“I missed you too,” she responded, her voice cracking slightly.
Lon Lon Ranch had become a haven for the travelling band of heroes and, though their job was far from finished, the Links felt that their abundant efforts could be rewarded with the few days they were able to spend in safety behind the walls of the ranch. But that luxury didn’t come without its small price.
***
“Chores!” Malon slammed a metal pail on the kitchen table, causing the Links who were having breakfast to jump in surprise. A beaming smile adorned her bright face as she looked around the room at each individual face.
Wild nearly dropped his sausage and Wind gasped the water he was drinking down the wrong pipe at the sudden raucous noise, causing him to cough excessively. “Who’s milking the cows and who’s feeding the cuccos,” Malon asked.
The Links around the table glanced at each other before quickly responding. “I’ll milk the cows,” They volunteered in unison. Malon laughed and took the bucket back. “If you can’t decide I’ll dish out the work myself. Wild, you can stay with me and wash dishes-”
“Lucky bastard,” Legend said.
“Language young man,” Malon chided. Legend immediately shut his mouth and listened. Malon tapped her chin before she turned to Legend. “Legend, you’re on cucco duty.”
“What? Why?”
“Because of that potty mouth of yours.” Beside Legend Warrior snickered. Malon huffed. “Alright Warrior, you can help him.”
“Oh, come on,” Warrior complained, which prompted a laugh from Legend in return.
“WInd, you can feed the pigs.”
“Yes,” Wind cheered. He liked the pigs.
“Twilight, you and Sky are on shovel duty,”
“What’s shovel- oh,” Sky then realised the odd job he’d been given and cringed.
“Yeah,” Twilight said.
“Hyrule and Four, hmm, you two are on milking duty with me.”
“Aw, yeah! I love milking duty,” Hyrule exclaimed.
“I don’t. The milk always gets on me,” Four grumbled.
“Well, maybe you should get a higher stool,” Legend joked.
Four stuck his tongue out at the remark and took the offered bucket from Malon once he cleared his plate.
“What about Time?”
“What about Time- I mean Link?”
“What’s his job?”
“Oh! I sent him to fix up one of the stables in the old barn. We’re planning on breeding the horses so we need more space.”
“Cool! Epona needs more friends,” Wind said excitedly. “Can I name the babies, please?” Wind practically begged her, and Malon easily granted his wish.
“Of course,” Malon said simply, smiling widely. “There’ll be plenty of names to give next time you happen to roll around our neck of the woods.”
***
“Let’s see,” Time muttered to himself as he took inventory of the tools on the shelf in front of him. “Wrench, saw. What’s that called again?” Time snapped his fingers, trying to remember the name of the strangle apparatus. “Gimlet,” he exclaimed. Time had long since finished his repair job, but he decided to make a list of their belongings while he was busy. He liked order and he knew Malon would appreciate the extra effort. Just knowing what you had made missing items easier to identify.
After he was done counting the hand tools he moved on to the gardening section of the barn where the heavier instruments were kept. Hoes and shovels, rakes and spades, pickaxes and regular axes hung neatly on hooks right above the Hero of Time, making it easy for him to see each individual item. “Okay, what do we have here?” Time took note of all the different items hung on the wall, jotting them down on his bulleted list as he went along the row.
“Alright, that seems to be- huh?” Time whirled around just in Time to see Epona barreling towards him at top speed. Her eyes held a spark of panic, she moved frantically as if trying to escape something. It all happened in a split second.
Epona charged, ramming straight into the startled hero and carrying him into the wall, causing the tools hung on the short, narrow hooks to fall on top of him. Epona whinnied in surprise and ran away from the scene, leaving the Hero of Time crumpled on the floor.
Time was faintly aware of the serious head wound he had sustained as a result of multiple sharp, heavy objects landing on his head. It took him approximately two seconds to realise how weak he felt and that if he moved his head even slightly overwhelming nausea would wash over him. His ears were ringing, his head ached and he felt absolutely helpless.
Sleepiness slowly began to creep upon him but Time fought the feeling with his entire being. He would spend his energy trying to avoid the inevitability of sleep. He had to fight it! If he didn’t… he would not be the same when he woke up.
In his stupor, he hadn’t realised the day’s coming to an end and so the feeble hero laid helpless on the floor of the old barn, desperately trying to stay awake.

"This brings me back," Twilight said, shoving the shovel down in his hands for the dozenth time that evening. He dug the blade of the shovel under a particularly large pile of manure and lifted it so he can dump in an ever pulling wheelbarrow graciously provided by Malon.
Beside him, Sky grunted as he too worked a shovel into the ground. He wiped his brow with the back of his hand and then continued. "This brings you back?"
"Oh yeah. Growing up, I didn't have parents. I had to get money to fend for myself by doing odd jobs for the people of the village I lived in" Twilight explained, "one of those jobs was mucking up the fields. Didn't enjoy it at the time, but it was good and honest work for a child. Now that I'm older, I help out with herding and taking care of the animals. We have the younger kids cleaning the fields now."
"Odd jobs where I came from normally included carrying books," Sky said somewhat bitterly as he unloaded his shovel into the wheelbarrow, "or cleaning blackboards."
Twilight let out a chuckle and stuck his shovel into the ground, looking around the field to admire their work. Malon did a fantastic job with caring for the ranch herself, but she was probably overworked with her husband gone off on another adventure, and seeing her field all clean-looking filled Twilight's chest with pride.
"So, what now?" Sky asked, looking at the pile of manure with a wrinkled nose. Twilight shrugged and grabbed the handles of the wheelbarrow.
"I'm sure Malon has a place for us to put this so we can let it decompose."
"Oh," Sky hummed. "How long does that take?"
Twilight shrugged. "Depends. We can see if Malon wants us to throw any unused crops in there to help the process, but, either way, it should be fine to use as fertilizer by the time fields are ready-"
"Wait, did you say fertilizer?" Sky squawked and Twilight grinned.
"Oh yeah, city boy. Every farmer does it."
"U-uses poo to-"
"There you boys are," a new voice chimed in and Twilight turned to find Malon walking towards them, a smile on her face. "All done?"
"Yes ma'am," Twilight nodded while Sky stood there gaping. "Was just wanderin' where you wanted us to put this?"
"Oh, we have a spot for it by the mill, that way it doesn't stink up the house while it bakes," Malon said with a wink.
"I think I'm going to barf," Sky said, clutching his stomach and both Twilight and Malon burst into fits of laughter. "This isn't funny! I'm never going to be able to eat a vegetable ever again!"
"Oh honey, wait until you hear what we feed the pigs," Malon joked, and Twilight would have laughed along as Sky cried out in horror, covering his ears, but a different sound met Twilight's ears that took every drop of his attention away.
As a goat herder, there are sounds that he was trained to recognize. One of those was the sound of frantic, escaping hooves.
He turned his eyes away from Malon who was punching Sky's shoulder jokingly and looked towards the sound, only to see a horse raging right towards them.
Epona.
Instinctively—ditching the wheelbarrow—he rushed away from Malon—who at this point had noticed the startled horse as well—and threw his hands up, calling out. She was barreling right towards them, ears pinned back in panic and mouth loudly panting, until she reared up and cried out right before she could run into him.
Something scared Epona, if the way she remained agitated until Malon pushed her way through and began to sing a song, something scared her badly.
"Is she okay?" Sky asked hesitantly.
"I don't know," Malon said softly, rubbing Epona's mane with gentle movements. "What scared ya, girl?"
"If Epona is anything like my horse, nothing small," Twilight mused, he too joining in to stroke Epona's neck.
"We should find the others," Sky mumbled, pulling out his sword. Twilight agreed with a nod and unsheathed his own, the joking and good mood a mere fading memory now.
"If you don't mind, ma'am," Twilight said and gave his most assuring smile towards Malon, "you should head inside. I'll take care of Epona."
Malon looked like she was about to argue but then her shoulders sagged. "Bring everyone back safe. I'm sure it's just a wild animal."
-o-o-o-o-
"That'a'gal," Twilight hummed, leading Epona closer towards the stable, one hand still with his sword. Epona seemed to have calmed down some, but he's still worried about her. What could scare a horse that has been through so much?
He sighed and took another step towards the stable, and then he was knocked painfully off his feet by something appearing out from the ground. He landed harshly on his back with a grunt, just managing to avoid biting his tongue, but the sound of Epona's loud neigh was enough to get him quickly back onto his feet. He's back on solid ground just in time to jump to the side to avoid a fleshy, slug-like body and it's sharp pincers.
A leaver. An almost true constant between worlds. Annoying, fast, and persistent. However, they are normally found in the desert.
Twilight would wonder why this leaver was here if it wasn't for the disgusting inky tone to its body.
Infected.
Twilight jumped into battle without another second to lose. He didn't even have time to regret sending Sky to the opposite side of the field to search for the others before the leaver burrowed its strong body into the ground. Epona stomped the dirt with her hooves, whinnying loudly and angrily and he understood why she was so startled now. Any horse would be startled by something popping up from below them.
A section of ground popped up a bit and Twilight was on it in a heartbeat, jumping forward and sending his sword down. He could hear an agonized gurgle come from the creature but it wasn't done yet. It shifted and pushed forward, knocking him back. He lost grip of his sword and with a startled yell he was once again on his back. He just barely had enough time to look up for the creature but didn't have any more to spend on defending himself when it raced toward him.
Then, four raging hooves stomped on it and kept stomping on it until it was a gross pile of mush.
Twilight relaxed against the ground, forcing his heart to calm down.
Well, that happened.
He shoved himself once again to his feet and grabbed his sword, glaring at the creature now turned pudding. Epona didn't look like she'd calm down again anytime soon if the way she was huffing and snarling and stomping her feet indicated anything. So, he decided he'd let her be and go inside the stable, remembering that the old man should be in there. He could calm her down better.
He walked towards the door, gave a small knock, and opened it. "Hey, Time?" He called, the smell of horse meeting his nose. There was no answer, so he went all the way in, eyebrows furrowed by the silence.
Then, a groan.
He turned his neck, and his blood froze. "Oh Hylia. Time!'
Time laid miserably on his spot on the floor, tools strewn on and around him. Twilight sprinted towards his mentor, desperate to see what had caused the strong hero to look so vulnerable. Upon closer inspection, Twilight noticed the blood coating Time’s hair and face. “Goddesses, Time what happened to you?”
Time could only reach up and touch his forehead, wincing at the pain the simple action brought on.
Twilight was quick to sling Time’s arm around his shoulder but couldn’t manage to haul him up. If only the hero had removed his armour he would have been easier to lift. “Holy Hylia, Time, you weigh a ton.” Twilight sighed. “Okay, I’m going to get help. I’ll be right back.” Twilight ran as quickly as he could from the stable as Time groaned again and slumped back against the wall. It wasn’t long before he ran into Warrior and Legend who were busy tending the cucoos.
“Always remember,” Legend said beside Warrior who was holding a bag of feed at arm’s length, a cucoo standing innocently in front of him. “They can smell fear.”
“I’ve fought cucoo wars, my friend,” Warrior said eliciting a snicker from Legend, “I am not afraid of feeding these little punks.” As if on cue the cucoo crowed and Warrior visibly startled. Legend began cackling at his side, doubling over at the hilarity. “Shut up. I just got a fright.”
“Guys,” Twilight called, catching the pair’s attention. They turned to Twilight, seeing the weary look in his eyes.
“What’s wrong,” Warrior asked, concern in his voice.
“Time’s hurt. I can’t carry him alone. I need your help to take him to the house.”
“Say no more. I’ll come with you.” Warrior stepped over the fence keeping the cucoos and joined Twilight’s side.
“Me too,” Legend said, making his way over when Twilight stopped him.
“No, Legend. I need you to tell Malon what happened. She should be in the house.”
“O-okay. I’m on it.” Legend dashed off to the house and while Warrior and Twilight made their way hastily to the barn.
“How bad is it,” Warrior huffed as they ran across the field.
“I don’t know. He was pretty out of it when I got there but I hope he’s doing okay. He might have a concussion.”
Warrior hummed in thought. “What exactly happened?“
“I don’t know, but by the looks of it, some tools fell on top of him. He was lying under a bunch of gardening equipment.”
“Shit,” Warrior cursed. “I think you might be right about that concussion. How did that even happen?”
“I don’t know. He can tell us when we get him inside.”
They came to a stop in front of the red and white wooden building and pushed open the large wide doors.
“Old man,” Warrior called, peering inside, “You okay?”
Time was still on the floor, covered in blood and moaning. His eyes were glazed over but they held a note of fear behind them.
“Time, we’re going to help you. We just need to-” Twilight began as he knelt next to the man and slung his arm over his shoulder for the second time when he was interrupted by a sudden outcry.
“Get away from me,” Time yelled as loudly as he could in the state he was in. Twilight startled at his mentor’s harsh words, but he continued to lift him with Warrior’s help. “No, NO! Leave me,” Time continued to shout, fighting to free himself from Twilight and Warrior’s firm grip.
“Time, calm down, we’re just trying to take you home-”
“No, please,” Twilight spared a glance at the old man and his heart sank. Was Time crying? “Not again. I beg of you.”
“Time,” Twilight said gently, “It’s going to be fine.”
Just then Legend burst through the door. He doubled over, breathing heavily. “Fuck,” more breathing, “Okay,” he straightened and looked at the trio, Time’s teary-eyed visage and blood-soaked hair catching his notice above everything else. “Goddesses, Time, what happened?”
“We don’t know, but we need your help getting him to the house.”
Legend needed no more instruction and jogged over to help Twilight and Warrior carry the injured man. He took hold of Time’s legs but got kicked in the face for his efforts. “Ow! What-”
“Let go of me!” Time was frantic. He began kicking and flailing his arms to try and get away, but his efforts were weak despite his dedication.
“Time, we need you to cooperate,” Warrior scolded. “Malon’s probably worried sick.” Legend tried again to take hold of Time’s legs, but Time wouldn’t relent. He kept thrashing. “Time please-”
Time began wailing out of nowhere. He stopped fighting and fell to his knees, escaping from their grips but making no move to run. “I can’t. Don’t take me back there. The sacred realm,” Time sobbed, “I don’t want to go back.” Twilight froze. The sacred realm? Time had been there? Could that mean he was imprisoned with Ganondorf? And if that was the case, could that be why Time had been fighting them so relentlessly only a moment ago? Maybe his head wound was more serious than Twilight originally thought if Time was freaking out about events from that long ago. Twilight moved to pick him up again and this time his mentor didn’t flinch, probably having spent all of his energy trying to keep them away.
Soon the three heroes managed to get Time to the house without too much trouble. But the whole scene was still on Twilight’s mind. Why did Time think that they were going to take him to the sacred realm? What had traumatised the hero so much that he showed such vulnerability; such helplessness, and fear?
Before Twilight could ponder any longer Malon rushed to help her husband. She shouldered the weight Warrior had been carrying and they both managed to nearly drag Time upstairs to bed. All the while Time muttered words of protest, though he was unable to fight back effectively.
He seemed so lifeless. Boneless even. So unlike himself that it had Twilight swallowing something stuck in his throat. Something that felt like a seed of panic. Yet he knew he couldn't panic, not yet, because if he turned around he'd see the others looking at him, looking for some sort of direction, something to do.
Twilight didn't have anything for them to do. He barely knew what to do himself.
So he swallowed that seed and turned, keeping his face as neutral as he could manage, and looked at each hero in the eye. Legend, of course, was there, but until now Twilight hadn't noticed Wild and Four were there as well. Sky must have still been looking for the others.
Well, he supposed there was something to do.
"Head out, find the others, and bring your swords," he said calmly, a stark difference from what he was actually feeling. "I ran into an infected Leaver out there. They travel in packs, there could be more."
"Alright," Wild mumbled, grabbing his sword and walking out the door even though Twilight didn't think Wild knew what a leaver was. Legend shared a look with Twilight before nodding and running out to follow the champion.
"I'll go check on the traveler," Four said, "he's cleaning up the cow pen. The pig parlor is near there too, so I'll see if Wind is still there." And then he was out the door.
Then, Twilight was alone, looking at the empty house and feeling almost… lost on what to do. He supposed he could head out and search for Sky, but his feet didn't seem to want to move from their spot.
Then, the sound of creaking floorboards made themselves known behind Twilight. He turned around to see Warrior standing there.
Warrior gave Twilight a small smile and Twilight found himself smiling a tad bit back. Worry was a knot in his chest, but he was sure with the help of the others, this would just be a bump in the road.
"While they're finding the others," Warrior offered, "you and I can check the perimeter for more monsters."
Twilight was about to respond that it sounded like a plan, but then Malon made her appearance as well. "Actually, I need one of you boys to help me a little more," she said softly. Twilight glanced at Warrior and he shrugged, fixing his scarf around his neck so it wrapped a little around his chin.
"Why don't you help the lady," Warrior said, "I want to see these leavers for myself."
Twilight nodded, making a mental note to thank Warrior later, and then turned towards Malon as the other hero took his leave. Malon gave him a kind look before she stepped forward and brushed her finger across his cheek. "Look at you," she said, "you need a hose down more than the pigs."
Twilight released a breath and stepped away, folding his arms across his chest. "How is he?"
A grimace passed over Malon's features. "Tired. Confused. Scared. Nothing I haven't tackled before."
Twilight knew nightmares were not exclusive. Anyone could have them. Someone with a perfect life. Someone who've seen more war-torn days that simple days. Nightmares crept up on the cowardly. Pounced on the brave. It shouldn't surprise him that things like this had happened to Time before.
"Thankfully, he's keeping himself awake," Malon continued, beginning to head towards the front door. Twilight quickly followed along. "I don't know if he's conscious enough to purposely keep himself awake, or if… if he's subconsciously doing it. But either way, it gives us time to find help."
She walked out of the house with Twilight at her heels, and eventually, she stopped by a small garden of berry bushes. She worked her way past them and revealed a small birdbath.
Well, a fairy bath actually.
"Drat," Malon cussed, "there's only one."
"You collect them?"
"You boys and your collecting," Malon mumbled, walking forward to where a small ball of light hovered over the water in the bowl, dropping every so often to perhaps take a sip. "We're looking for one." She reached forward and gently cupped the fairy in her hands, mumbling a soft plea for help that they both knew the fairy would oblige without a single hesitation.
"Navi," Twilight whispered in reverence. Malon slowly pulled her hands to her chest, the fairie's light glowing through her fingers.
"How… how much do you know about my husband?" She asked.
Twilight swallowed. "Um, more than the others. B-but less than you, I'm sure."
She shook her head and began to head back to the house. "There's not a single thing I don't know about him. Do you know about the true nature of his adventures? Why he had been given the title of Hero of Time?"
"I, uh," Twilight stumbled, placing his hand on the back of his neck and rubbing sheepishly. "Not really. I know he… traveled a few times. Back and forth into the future and the past."
"That doesn't just happen you know," Malon said as they walked back into the house. They stopped right in front of the master bedroom and she sighed, looking older than what he had ever seen her before. "He tells me that when he was a boy, he went to obtain a sacred sword. But his body… was too young and weak to wield a sword like that. Against his will and knowledge, he was locked away in the sacred realm… for seven years, only to wake up in a body that was older than his mind. To a world torn apart by power.
"He… he tells me he does not remember those years locked away, but sometimes he wakes up screaming to let him go. Let him leave. That he's afraid and he doesn't want to be there anymore. I think… I think the memories of that place are somewhere in his head, and when he's asleep or things like this happen, they're unlocked."
Twilight nodded somberly in sympathy for Time’s circumstances. Time had endured much more than any normal Hylian could even fathom, though Malon seemed uninterested in Time’s heroics and more in tune with the man he was inside. She would know what to say to snap him out of his state of anxiety. If anyone could bring him back to reality it was her.
The door creaked loudly as Malon opened it hesitantly. She tiptoed over to the bed on which Time was lying with his back against the headboard. His head faced the window across the bed. He kept muttering unintelligibly under his breath, his eyes would dart across the room, and he would jump at the slightest noise. The hero turned his head at their approaching footsteps.
“Dear,” Malon said, causing her husband to turn towards her completely. He looked exhausted as if he’d pass out any second, but they couldn’t risk him falling into any terrible consequences of a concussion. Time smiled at her, and, for the first time since the incident, he looked as if he felt truly safe. “I brought something that might help you.” Malon released the fairy from her hands, watching it whisk away and flutter over Time’s shaking form. Almost instantly he relaxed, though slightly. His pupils contracted, the dazed look in his eyes faded and he stopped shaking. He stopped muttering to himself and looked up at Twilight who had made his way over to the bed. Time, for the briefest moment, looked as if he recognised Twilight before he shot up and scooted back on the bed, shouting, “No!” and “Get away from me!”
“Not again, NOT AGAIN!”
“Link, sweetheart, it’s just Twilight,” Malon said, reaching out and trying to placate him. “Please, try to remember. He’s not going to take you back. I-I promise,” Malon choked out. Tears pricked at her eyes as she watched her husband agonise over the cruelty that had been done to him as a child. She didn’t think she could bear to see him crumble under the weight of all his years of torture and vulnerability.
Time saw this- her tears- and stopped. He drew closer to her and placed a rough but gentle hand on her cheek.
“Twilight, will you just-” she paused and took a calm, shaky breath, looking deeply into Time’s scared eyes. “Will you please give me a moment?”
Twilight respectfully nodded and left the room. He heard voices coming from the kitchen and made his way there to find that all of the Links had returned. They all wore worried expression, presumably having all heard the news about Time’s accident.
Twilight cleared his throat and addressed the room at their expectant glances. “He’ll be alright,” he said simply.
“Alright? That’s it? No ‘he’s responding to treatment’, or ‘we know how to heal him’?” Four asked bluntly
“What kind of treatment, dumbass? We have no potions, no fairies, and no doctor,” Legend declared, flailing his arms wildly. “And how are we supposed to know how to heal him if we don’t know what’s wrong?”
“We actually had one fairy,” Twilight answered, “and we might know what’s wrong with him.”
All heads turned to Twilight at the new information. “Well? Spill it. How do we fix him,” Legend demanded, tapping his foot impatiently. He tried to look nonchalant but the look in his eyes betrayed his concern.
“He might have sustained a serious concussion, but, with the fairy, we were able to lessen the injury, but we’ll still need to take shifts waking him up. We have to make sure he doesn’t bear any permanent damage.”
The group fell silent after that, worry casting its dark cloud over them. Twilight shifted and played with his fingers, revealing his nerves.
“There’s something you’re not telling us,” WIld pointed out suddenly, catching the group’s attention. Twilight paused. Even though he knew it was necessary to tell them and they would find out even without his help, he didn’t want to spread worry over a handleable situation. Despite these thoughts, he decided he needed to tell them the truth.
“There is… one problem. I don’t think the old man remembers any of us or trusts us. And more than that it seems like he’s trying to keep himself awake because of some past trauma.”
“Well, that’s good, isn’t it,” WInd asked hopefully.
“Not exactly. Concussed patients need sleep. They just can’t be asleep for too long periods at a time.”
“That’s sure to make things difficult, but it’s just a small setback. We can still get him to sleep and help him remember us,” Sky added cheerfully.
The rest of the Links didn’t look so sure, but they didn’t argue with Sky either. His optimism was welcome in their time of panic. They were willing to give anything a shot if it meant helping their friend.
“I think it’s best if we take shifts. Too many people at once will just overwhelm him.
“If that’s the case I’ll take the first shift,” said Warrior, standing. “I mean, we were pretty close. Maybe there’s a chance he’ll remember me.”
Twilight thought about that. Of course, there was a chance, but if the old man didn’t even remember Twilight he didn’t think he’d remember Warrior, even if they were close. “Okay, go for it,” Twilight said wearily.
Warrior nodded and left for Time and Malon’s room, leaving the rest to ponder the endless possibilities that might come of this.
"Oh good, you all have a plan," Molon said, walking into the room with the other Links'. She gave them a tired yet enthusiastic smile. " That means I can trust you all to hold down the fort while I head to Castle Town."
"Alone?" Sky asked, only to hiss out in pain when Wind elbowed him in the side.
"She can handle herself," Wind warned but Malon just chuckled good-naturedly.
"I appreciate the concern, sky child, but it's just to the castle. My husband needs more medicine and the sun is still up for a little while longer. I'll be back by morning, just keep waking him up every so often to make sure he's not getting worse," she said, tugging a shawl around her shoulders.
"If you wish for one of us to accompany you," Wild offered smally, "I'd be happy to tag along."
Really, Twilight would almost like for Wild to join Malon. He looked out of his element, and he probably felt like the last one capable to help someone with memory loss and confusion. But Malon simply shook her head and walked up to him, placing a hand on his shoulder and smiling kindly at him. "Thank you for offering, but I'll be fine. My husband needs you all. You're all very important to him. Besides, I won't be alone, I'll have Epona with me."
"You're important to him too," Hyrule said quietly.
Malon just beamed at him before she walked over to the door. "I'll be back by morning. Earlier if the gates don't lock me in. Take care!"
"Good luck," seven voices all chimed in. Then, Malon was gone, and the boys were all left to their own devices.
And there weren't a whole lot of devices, so Twilight took a page from Time and Malon's book and set the boys to work. Wild returned to the kitchen, finishing up dinner while Legend and Hyrule went to clean up and prepare the guest room. To Sky, he assigned sweeping the floors and Four and Wild worked together to dust various cabinets. All the while, the door to the master bedroom remained silent, a boding forewarning of what the future had to bring.
-o-o-o-o-
His head hurt. That was the simple truth of everything. His head hurt. Enough so that he would be quite content doing nothing. He was pretty sure he was asleep, but he couldn't really recall why. If he tried to remember, then the headache would just grow and he would rather it went away.
Unfortunately for him, he had little choice in many things, one of those things was the over creeping sense of wakefulness forcing himself to become aware of his body, the sounds around him, and the gross taste lingering in his mouth. Something on his shoulder.
He would have preferred to keep his eyes shut, but they opened anyway, bringing a sharp ping of pain through his skull.
Blinking, he looked ahead of him, only to find a wooden ceiling above his head and not much else. He moaned as his headache smarted, but he quickly stilled as he realized that the pressure on his shoulder that he felt earlier was still there.
He turned his head and his eyes widened. There was a man in the room with him, leaning towards him from a wooden chair set next to the bed, arm stretched out and hand resting on him. Face screwed up with concern.
“Hey, old man, you up?”
Instantly, panic washed over him.
He jerked away from the man, slamming his hands next to his side to perhaps find a weapon. “Get away,” he snarled and the man snapped back as if stung. It was now that he realized that he didn’t know where he was. There was a small inkling at the back of his head that promised that he might have been here, but the hysteria from waking up with a stranger next to him was blurring his vision, making it even harder to concentrate when combined with his aching head.
“Time, it’s me,” the man said, his voice stern but a little rushed like he was nervous, and that certainly did nothing to make Link trust him any more than what he initially did. “Captain?”
“Where am I?” Link snarled, his voice sounding wrong in his own throat. He tried to shift up in the bed he was lying in, but his body felt wrong and the hurt in his head was traveling down his spine with the movement. A flash of familiarity ricocheted across his skull and he couldn’t help but whimper at it. He had felt like this before. Like his body was wrong and everything was different and wrong and that only made him want to panic more.
Yet everything hurt, he could hardly even think about moving without some sort of pain. He could just lie there and struggle to make sense of what’s going on, hoping his muddled mind would clear.
“You’re at your home,” the man (captain?) said slowly, making an effort to raise his hands and show he was weaponless. Not that Link believed him for a second. People can be crafty when they want to be. “What do you remember?”
“I-” Link swallowed, trying to grasp onto anything that was more clear than the rapid beating of his heart. He was so confused, and scared, and lost, and what was the last thing he remembered? He can hardly remember a single thing. Then, something calming washed over him with the soothing voice of a woman singing softly in his hair, her soft hands running through his hair.
Safe, she said, you’re safe my love.
And just like that, her face appeared in his mind’s eye, and he was overcome with comfort and safety and finally, his heart calmed just a bit. He didn’t remember these walls, but he recognizes them now.
Home, they say. Safe.
He looked at the man again, trying to see him in a different light, try to puzzle together something he’s missing most the pieces to.
A name flashed across the tip of his tongue, and he spoke it before he could question it. “You’re Link,” he said softly.
The man smiled and relaxed ever so slightly, and Link can feel the energy inside of him whither as well. He can barely keep his eyes open anymore, the adrenaline fading like a wistful song. “I’m Link too,” the man said kindly.
“Oh,” was all Link could say to that. His eyes are heavy now, almost like something unseen was wrapping itself around him, trying to drag him back into unconsciousness, and he almost fell into it if it weren’t for the hand replacing itself back onto his shoulder.
“Hey, not yet, old man,” the other Link said. “We have to keep you awake just a bit longer, just to make sure your memory loss isn’t the only damage the concussion did.”
“Concussion…?”
The man simply nodded with a gentle, reassuring smile plastered on his face. “Yeah, you wouldn’t remember that. We found you out in the barn. You were lying under a bunch of gardening equipment with blood running from a wound on your head. Malon, your wife,” Link confirmed, “patched you up with a fairy-”
“Fairy,” Time interrupted, a flash of hope sparking in his eyes. “Navi?”
The other Link’s face fell as he shook his head. “No, old man. I’m sorry.” The pair were silent for a minute. Link kept his gaze on the floor as if it was more interesting than their conversation. The man ran a hand down his face before he spoke again. “Even though your wound is healed the effects are still there. You’ll be out of commission for a couple of days so don’t even think about getting out of bed.”
Link didn’t argue. He felt positively shitty to put it lightly. His head felt like a blacksmith’s anvil… blacksmith… somehow that word felt important as if it stirred the fog enshrouding his mind, trying to reveal a secret that would rather stay hidden. He grasped at it, but it evaded him.
Then a thought occurred to him out of the blue.
Link stared blankly at the man and blinked.
“What,” the other Link asked.
“Why are you in my house?” The question came out of nowhere, unprompted by anything, and yet, this was his house? Why was this man here?
The man blanched. “I’m sorry, what?”
“This is my house, is it not? I remember… that I know who you are, but why are you here? Does my wife know? Are there others? When did you even find me?”
“We found you earlier today and, yeah, there are others Twilight was here-”
“Twilight,” Link said slowly. “Yes, he was in here.“
“He’s one of us,” the other said. He paused as if realising something. “Do you remember him?”
Link shook his head. “No, I- I thought… I didn’t trust him. I thought he was going to take me back. I sense his magic... He can’t be trusted.” Link spoke frantically, trying to get his nerves across so the other Link would listen. He couldn’t go back to that place, no, he wouldn’t!
“Time, nobody here is going to hurt you. We’re your friends.” The man said then he sighed. “Malon left to get you some medicine,” he said and Link wanted to panic, but he could tell that the other was sure of his words, that Link wouldn’t be hurt. “In the meantime, I’m just going to ask you a few questions to make sure you’re doing okay.”
“All right.” Link did not feel fine, but he guessed that the other man meant something else.
The man cleared his throat before he began. “Are you feeling particularly irritable at the moment?”
Link quirked an eyebrow. “What sort of question is that?”
“Just answer me,” the man said, eliciting a small giggle from Link.
“No, I don’t think so,” he said, coming out of his laughter. He still wasn’t sure of this man’s intentions, but a vague recollection at the back of his mind told him that he was familiar and therefore trustworthy.
“Good. Now, tell me everything you remember starting from when you met me.”
Odd question, Link thought. “Okay, I remember… I remember this-this portal of sorts.” Link tried to bring up the memories from his foggy mind and managed to recount his meeting with the man in front of him.
“We walked through another portal and,” Link gasped. He froze as the next memory came to him. “We were in the sky, on a floating island.” His eyes were wide. It was as if he was experiencing something supernatural, but, somehow, all of this felt like he was eating seconds from the same dish. “How is that possible.”
“Keep going,” the man cajoled.
“I remember we met someone, someone who always wore some sort of cape. It was mostly white- Link! His name was also Link.”
The man nodded vigorously. “Yes, yes, keep going.”
Link’s face scrunched up as he thought, but every card he drew after that was blank. “That’s it.”
“That’s it?”
“That’s it. Also, why are all our names Link?”
“We share the name of the hero’s spirit. You remember that much, don’t you?”
“Yes,” Link replied slowly.
“Okay, moving on,” the other Link said, waving his hand in the air. “What are your symptoms.”
***
Twilight was biting his nails. He couldn’t shake the thought of having Time distrust him so much that he perceived him as a threat.
Twilight paced back and forth across the kitchen as Wild finished up supper. “Your fingernails are down to stubs. If you go any further you’ll bleed,” Wild cautioned, sparing a glance at his mentor from his spot at the counter.
“What if he doesn’t remember any of us Wild? What if he sees us as dangerous? We can’t defeat Dark Link without him.” Twilight felt utterly defeated, but he wouldn’t let the others know that. He needed to be strong, but it was so much more difficult being a leader than Time made it out to be. The whole facade that he put up in front of the others was starting to crumble with every minute Time was struggling to remember.
“Twi, just be patient. He’ll come to his senses soon enough. In the meantime, you just need to put a little faith in him. Help him remember.”
Twilight took a deep breath. “You’re right. This isn’t going to fix itself.”
Twilight heard footsteps descending the stairs and swiftly turned around to see Warrior making his way toward them. “I have good news and bad news. Which do you want to hear first?”
“What’s the bad news,” Wild asked instead of Twilight.
“The bad news: Time doesn’t remember you,” Warrior said, addressing Twilight.
Twilight groaned. Of course, he knew as much, but he was hoping Warrior could get a different result despite his doubts. “What’s the good news then?”
“He remembers me and Sky. Meaning I was able to get him to trust that the rest of you won’t hurt him. He’s willing to speak to you. Also, there doesn't seem to be any long-lasting side effects.”
Twilight released a breath he didn’t realise he was holding. It was a start, Time was willing to see him. If there was any chance of Twilight getting Time to recover, he’d take it. “Alright. I’ll go talk to him.” Twilight rushed forward but he was stopped as Warrior put a hand out in front of him, keeping him in place.
“Ah ah ah, not yet. Time’s resting. You should wake him up in about two hours to check if he’s okay. Do. Not. Force it. If he doesn’t remember you, it’s okay. Be patient.”
Twilight nodded sadly. He didn’t want to wait, but, for Time’s safety, he supposed he had no choice. “Thanks, Warrior.”
Warrior flashed Twilight a warm, reassuring smile before he turned to Wild. “I’m absolutely famished.”
“Well and grand. Supper is just about done. Mind setting up the table?”
“Sure.” Warrior set off to find the crockery and cutlery and Twilight stood, staring out the window, into the distance. “Something on your mind?” Wild inquired.
“What isn’t on my mind?”
“Fair. Go take a seat. I’ll save Time a plate.”
Twilight grudgingly obeyed and took a seat at the dining table. He folded his arms and rested his head on them. It had been a rough day for everyone and the fact that Time remembered Warrior and not him made him feel just a tad jealous.
The others had arrived and conversations were going over their meal, but Twilight was part of them. His focus was drawn to their most pressing issue and, as a result, he felt perpetually stressed.
Twilight didn’t notice Wild come up to him when everyone had left the table. “It’s been two hours-”
Twilight didn’t even let Wild finish his sentence before he sprang out of his chair and dashed to the stairs.
“Wait,” Wild called. “Take this.” In Wild’s hands was a plate of food. Twilight took the offered food with a knife and fork. “He might be hungry when he wakes up.”
“Thanks.” Twilight gave a wan smile and headed up to the master bedroom.
Once Twilight reached the door he knocked before he could think better of it. Twilight facepalmed. “Dammit, Link. Of course, he’s not going to answer the door.” But Twilight gave a surprised yelp when his mentor swung the door open. “Y-you’re supposed to be in bed,” Twilight chided.
Time looked, in every sense of the word, like a crook caught in the lamplight. His eyes were round and surprised and he simply stood there, staring at Twilight like he didn't quite know what to do next.
"But I suppose that's a good sign, isn't it?" Twilight asked nervously, uncomfortable under the elder man's stare. "You waking up yourself? I don't really know the fine details of concussions but-"
He's cut off as the door is suddenly slammed shut and he's left of the other side gaping, the plate of food left uselessly in his hand.
It took him a moment to find his voice. He reached up and knocked again. "Old man? It's me, Twilight, I just came to check up on you and give you some dinner!"
There's no answer and a spark of annoyance ignited in Twilight's chest.
"I'm not going to hurt you," he called, knocking again, "I'm your friend. Warrior said you remembered him and Sky; I'm their friend too!"
"Go away, please!" Time suddenly called on the other side of the door.
Twilight rolled his eyes. "Sorry, buddy, can't do that. We have to make sure you're doing alright. The sun is setting and I don't think Malon will be back until morning, so you have to work with us for a little while longer." He reached forward and placed his hand on the doorknob, feeling a little like he's about to breach his mentor's privacy, but at the same time his mentor is acting very childish and Twilight can't just leave him be.
The doorknob jiggled but did not open. Twilight scowled and huffed. "Very mature," he said, "unlock the door. Look, I know you're very hard-headed, but you have to let us help you. You have to let somebody in."
"Send someone else!" Time called.
And that blow was almost physical.
It definitely had him stumbling back like it.
Deep breaths Twi. Deep breaths. "Look! I don't know why you don't like me all of a sudden, but I mean nothing but goodwill! Plus, Warrior said that you'd be willing to talk with me?"
"... I changed my mind."
"Old man," Twilight said in exasperation. "Time. Open the door." He jiggled the doorknob. "C'mon, I'm not going to bite you or whatever. Time! Please?"
Nothing.
Twilight had to step away to restrain himself from kicking the door down.
"Fine! You win! But you will let someone in!"
He turned with a huff and walked back to the kitchen where the others were helping Wild clean up the kitchen but they all stopped when he entered the area, food going cold on the plate in his hand and face probably red.
"That didn't take long," Hyrule said slowly. "Is he alright?"
Twilight huffed and strides over to the younger hero, shoving the plate in his hands and then storming towards the front door. "He won't talk to me. It's your turn."
And then he was out the door before anyone could say a single thing. He stood in the cool evening air for a few seconds, panting like a wolfos.
If Time wanted to act like a child, then that's fine by him. He took off walking, nowhere in particular, just in a random direction. He was sure though, that if anyone looked at him through the windows of the ranch, they'd see steam coming from his ears.
-o-o-o-o-
Hyrule could only stand there a little dumbfounded by what had happened. It seemed Twilight’s behavior was a shock to the rest of them too because it took a good few beats of silence bore someone cleared their throat and attempted to make some semblance of a plan.
“Hyrule… do you want to give Time his food?”
Hyrule looked at Legend, the one who had spoken, feeling like he was a trapped animal. There’s no way Time would react friendly with Hyrule. Not if he didn’t with Twilight. Hyrule barely even knew the guy. He respected him sure but it wasn’t like they had any kind of relationship or anything.
His internal panic must have shown on his face because Sky gave a kind smile. “How about,” he said, taking the plate from Hyrule’s hands and setting it down on the kitchen table. “You invite him down to eat.”
“I don’t think he can handle a large company, Sky,” Warrior said, “he’s probably very tired still.”
“I think that for whatever reason he can’t handle our rancher’s company,” Sky retorted and everyone silenced. “And while Twilight is out blowing steam we can get him down here to talk to us as a group.”
Warrior bit his lip in thought before he sighed. “I see your logic. But we mustn't crowd him.”
“Maybe we can help him remember Twilight,” Wind offered.
“So by the time Twilight comes back, everything will be fine again,” Wild put in as well.
“Fine,” Warrior muttered, throwing his hands in the air. “Fine. But if we break him more, I won't take the fall with you all when Malon decides our lives are forfeit.”
It was meant to be a joke, but if the way the entire group stilled and became somber was an indication of anything, it certainly fell flat.
“Hyrule?” Four suddenly asked and Hyrule almost jumped a foot in the air, not expecting to be addressed.
“Yeah?”
“Are you going to get the old man?”
Heat flooded his face. “Y-yeah.”
He left the room before he could make a bigger fool of himself and practically scrambled up the stairs. He wondered what made Twilight so irritable. Did Time say something rude? And why was Time so insistent about not wanting to talk to Twilight? He wished he knew, that way he’d be more prepared with Time inevitably shut him down too.
There was no way this would work, and he chanted it in his head like a mantra until he worked up the courage to knock on the door. There was silence for a few solid seconds, and then a voice called out in a more awake tone than what he had been expecting.
“Who is it?”
Hyrule swallowed. “Um, Hyrule. Um- well, not Hyrule Hyrule. I- I’m the hero of Hyrule? So that’s what everyone calls me. It gets confusing sometimes and-”
The door was suddenly opened and he shut his jaw with a click.
Time stood there on the other side of the doorway, his single eye critically narrowed, almost like he was looking into Hyrule’s very soul. Hyrule squirmed under the gaze, but whatever Time was looking for seemed to be found because he stepped slowly out of the way to invite Hyrule in. Hyrule swallowed and stepped back. “Actually, we were wondering if you felt well enough to join us downstairs for some dinner?”
Time stilled and then he sighed. “I’m… not sure that is a good idea.”
“Twilight isn’t there,” Hyrule rushed out and Time’s eyebrows rose in slight surprise. “He went out. For a run or something, I think. The other’s all want to talk to you.”
Time remained silent for a second before he released a breath. “Did I hurt his feelings?”
“Who? Twilight?”
Time nodded and Hyrule swallowed. “Oh. Um. He’ll be fine.”
“I… I don’t recognize anyone, but each of you gives me a… sense of peace and safety. But Twilight… I don’t know why but I can’t bring myself to open up to him. I know I care about him, I can feel it in my bones that I care for each of you, but I… I can’t talk to him right now. I just hope I didn’t hurt his feelings.”
“I… yeah, he’ll get over it,” Hyrule repeated because he didn’t quite know what else to say. “He’s… strong. And whatever is off about him that you don’t like I’m sure will all make sense when you’re better.”
“When I’m better.”
“Yeah… so do you want to come down and eat or should I bring food up-”
“I’ll… come down. I feel trapped in this room, and some kind faces I think will help me feel better.”
“Oh. Okay.”
Hyrule stood there awkwardly as Time practically shuffled out of the doorway, his eyebrows drawn together with a tightness that could only be described as pain. His head must still be bothering him. Hyrule swallowed and took a step forward, ducking under one of his arms and grabbing onto Time’s side. Time made a thankful hum and wrapped his arm around Hyrule’s shoulders.
“What is for dinner?” Time asked as Hyrule helped him down the first step. Hyrule grunted with his weight but was thankfully able to keep his balance for a few more steps.
“Wild made Hearty Salmon Meuniere. It’s really good,” Hyrule grunted.
They finally made it down onto the first floor and Hyrule almost bent over gasping, but he was stopped when Time squeezed his shoulder.
“I don’t remember who you are,” Time mumbled, “but I have the sense that you’ve been through much. You are incredibly brave, little one.”
Hyrule swallowed, not really prepared for a revelation like that. “Everyone here is brave. You’ll see that I’m at the bottom of the ladder. It’s you who everyone looks up to. Everyone is taking this memory loss hard. Especially Twilight. I… I appreciate it though.”
“If the me without memories can tell how courageous you are, I’m sure the me with memories thinks even higher of you.”
Hyrule almost choked on his spit as his ears began to feel like they were on fire.
“L-lets go. I’m sure the others all want to see you.”
-o-o-o-o-
The other’s all consisted of seven young men who for the life of him Link… or Time could not remember. He knew the faces. After they tell him their names he’s almost hitting his head against the wall in anger because how could he have possibly forgotten these young men?
Wind was a charming lad, and he gave Time the sense or recklessness and adventure. Curiosity. He smiled the widest when Time entered the room and talked the most like it wasn’t awkward at all. Time appreciated his energy. His kindness. It reminded him almost of himself before… before everything. Except, this young man somehow managed to keep that innocent part of him alive after his adventure.
Legend was much on the opposite side of the scale. He can see the sadness in his eyes, but he can also see a spark of flame. The need for adventure still calls him, even though Time is quite confident that Legend has been through more than what he says. There had been many obstacles in his way, and he lost many parts of himself, but he still retains a kindness and carefulness that often goes unnoticed by his prickly exterior. He says things as they are, and Time can’t help but feel a large deal of respect towards the younger man.
Sky was… well, Sky was himself. Time’s impressions of him were that he was kind and positive and perhaps the happiest of the group. But he also has a righteous aura about him that Time isn’t particularly fond of. The sword on his back is confirmation of that. Yet, Time also knows that he would trust his life in Sky’s hands.
Four was as blunt as a tree branch being used for swordplay. He didn’t dance around his words, and when Time asked for his story, he flatly said that Time had no business knowing. Time can respect that. Clearly, whatever relationship he had with Four was purely made out of trust. Neither knew that much about each other, but it didn’t matter. The boy had a quick mind and sharp tongue, and while he kept his secrets to himself, he still didn’t mind very much being around the others.
Warrior, Time can’t help but feel a special bond with him. Besides himself, Warrior was clearly the eldest of the group. Time knew that this man has suffered much, and has seen much more, and yet he still went out of his way to be honorable. To be kind.
Wild was a special soul. Time instantly felt the need to pay special attention to how he acted. Searching for little signs that he was uncomfortable or happy or content. Time didn’t think Wild has had that much time to be himself. In fact, it almost felt like Wild was constantly watching himself to live up to someone else. Yet, despite all of that, Time could tell his smiles were genuine, his enthusiasm heartfelt.
And of course, there was Hyrule. Insecure to a fault, yet his heart is bigger than that. He has a lot of heart. He might say he’s not that brave, but Time knew better. He knew that Hyrule has perhaps seen just as much hell as Time himself has.
The boys were all unique. Loud. Different. And even though the headache in his skull pulsed and his eyes felt heavier and heavier the night wore on, he wanted nothing more than to continue being in their company.
They told him stories. Tried their best to help him remember some of them. He couldn’t recall them all, like the one about how Legend apparently single-handedly fought off a hoard of moblins. He suspected that was just an attempt to butter himself up and trick Time’s memory. But the story Warrior told of the great Goron spice incident came almost immediately back to him with just a small bit of fuzz around the details. Wild looked scandalized at the mention of that story, seeing as it involved a piece of women’s clothing being found in his bad, but when Time started laughing, saying that he remembered that, all of the boys became eager to tell more silly stories about the rest of them.
Wild pulled out his strange slate and began a slide show of pictures, and quite some time passed and he hardly even felt his headache anymore.
Then, the slideshow stopped on a picture of a young man with dirty hair and markings on his forehead.
The mood instantly sunk, and Time couldn’t help but feel responsible for it.
“He looks up to you a lot,” Four mumbled, “you’re… almost like a dad to him.”
And Time knew this. He knew this the moment he saw the picture down on the slate of that young man. Twilight… feels almost like a son to him too.
Now that some time has passed with the others, he can almost see how silly he was. Sure, he was out of it, memories shattered in his head like a mirror, and Twilight simply had the misfortune of being the one to find him. The misfortune of having dark magic within him that Time didn’t recognize. How foolish of him to make that mistake. How foolish of him to judge Twilight off of that simple misunderstanding.
Almost like a sign from the goddesses, Twilight chose that time to walk in the front door. His skin around his eyes, cheeks, and ears were red from perhaps the cold, perhaps something else. He stopped in his tracks as everyone turned to look at him but his eyes instantly locked with Time.
There was something desperate in them, so instead of saying anything, Time smiled and scooted a little on the chair he was sitting on, making room for one more to join them at the kitchen table. Twilight smiled like the weight of the world had been lifted from his shoulders and quickly grabbed a chair and made his spot next to Time like it was the most natural thing in the entire world to do.
Laughter filled the rest of the night, and as they told yet another story Time hardly even noticed his head drooping with tiredness until an arm wound itself around his middle and hefted him upward. He did his best to cooperate with his feet, but it clearly wasn’t much help. He was eventually laid down on a soft sofa, a throw placed over his body, and before the calming embrace of sleep could take him he looked at the boy above him. How foolish of himself indeed to think this boy could ever hurt a fly.
-o-o-o-o-
Malon returned in the morning, a stash of red potions in her hands and an irritating story to tell about her next-door neighbors in the castle town inn. Though, her irritation quickly faded when she saw her husband happily resting on the downstairs sofa with a smile on his face. The boys tell her that they helped him remember most everything the night before and gave him much-needed company. When she was able to give him a red potion, the most it did was un-fog some of the trickier bits of his memory and rid him of his headache.
She didn’t complain when he pulled her close, dragging her into a love-filled kiss.
Wind made a gagging sound but Malon didn’t mind a single bit. Clearly, there was no need to worry. Her boy’s always pull through, one way or another.

HC dump about LANGUAGE on y’all cause I said so && cause I am interacting with muses that aren’t LOZ. to elaborated later when I have a coherent sense of mind
Keep in mind that Link is a SELECTIVE MUTE for most people. Many will not realise that there is a language barrier, but there is. At least when it comes to him speaking to you. But don’t let that deter anybody from talking to him. He’s a good listener && his best friend doesn’t even speak the same language as him, so no same language? No problem! Anyway, I’ll put everything else under a read more.
Some quick general notes in Hyrule: -- He’s fluent in Hylian. This include any sort of dialect of it. He’s better with the older languages of it, but can pick up the newer dialects as well. ( this is if he were to run into another Link that he would more or less see this ). The exception is Wild Child’s ( BOTW!Link’s) dialect. Not sure why he has an issue with him, but it could be due to the fact that Wild Link speaks very fast and low and not because of his language. -- Including Hylian, he’s well-versed in Goron, Gerudo, Zora, && even the Twili language. He may not speak either of these 3 languages, but he will understand the people. Most of the other races know Hylian as well, so that isn’t an issue, but when it comes to Twili ( Midna ), they don’t know anything but their language, so they can’t just speak normal Hylian. -- Twili is actually kind of like a different alteration of Hylian! It’s just more.... native && primitive than Link’s native language. Think of it like Mandarin && Cantonese or Spanish ( there’s different variants of Spanish too like Spain v. Mexico ) && Portuguese, different languages! ( forgive me if I am messing up on anything with languages, I just know the general concepts -- feel free to let me know if I am wrong. ) Just due to being separated from each other, the citizens of the Twili realm kind of had their own language form over time that differed from normal Hylians. Nonetheless, Link can understand them! As he understands Midna! But he can’t speak their language. -- Link can understand Twili, but he can’t read their language. -- As Link can understand Midna, Midna can understand Link ( when he speaks ) && Zelda -- Link can understand ancient languages of the Gods. -- Link can understand animals only in Beast Forme -- Part of this may be due to his bond to the Triforce that helps him understand others.
Now in regards to otherworlds... ( Fire Emblem, Pokemon, literally any other universe ): -- General rule of thumb; as a human, he doesn’t speak your language. It will sound VERY different than your language. -- Human or Beast, he will understand other humans, to a degree. Sometimes their accent will throw him off, but just know that he will understand you! ( again, this is most likely due to his Triforce connection ) -- He may not speak it, but if he wanted to, he could try to learn it. ( he actually does try with Alm when members of The Deliverance accidentally summons him -- thank @rigelheir for that hc, I love it ) For the most part though, it will take a lot for him to open up to learn how to speak a new language. -- Like I said, he’s a selective mute. Just cause he doesn’t talk though doesn’t mean he’s not listening. He will acknowledge you! -- His eyes && body language are your go to in regards to trying to understand what he’s saying. He’s pretty stoic a good portion of the time, but he knows how to point and direct others to his thoughts. -- His Beast Forme is a lot more expressive than his normal human self. Like A LOT MORE EXPRESSIVE. Which kinda means that he ‘talks’ more as a wolf. -- Link is a very good listener! A good shoulder to lean on. He may not be a talker or anything, but he listens. && he remembers too. In a way, he’s very thoughtful in that aspect. Like he may not say much, but his actions speak louder than words anyway.
#[ language barrier? ]#[ fuck yea there is a language barrier ]#[ i love exploring this tbh ]#headcanon.#[ wow dash is super dead what happened ]

Link has an Akira-esque motorcycle now and that’s awesome, but this DLC is just kinda OK
So, what is presumably the final piece of DLC for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild dropped about two days ago at The Game Awards 2017. It was one of those shadowy, no-promotion announcements that only Nintendo can get away with, and it was exciting, if only because the trailer showed Link on a FRIGGIN’ GUARDIAN MOTORCYCLE, DAMN SON. Also, following the tradition of Breath of the Wild having some of the best promotional artwork in the business, the drawing released to promote this DLC pack is basically an Akira reference! That’s so dope! But when it came time to fire up the actual DLC and gave it a whirl...I found myself kinda underwhelmed. (If you haven’t played it yet, go do that first, because spoilers lie ahead.) I’m not going to say that The Champion’s Ballad is a disappointment, because the fact that I wasn’t feeling it is mostly due to my own overblown expectations. But from looking at some reactions in the ResetERA official thread, I think it’s fair to say that myself and a host of other people were expecting something different. Ever since Breath of the Wild’s DLC plan was announced, Nintendo was hyping this second content pack up with promises of a “new original story.” From their ambiguous wording, it seemed like DLC pack 1 - the one that introduced the game’s Master Trials - was supposed to be the gameplay-focused package filled with a hard mode and other challenges, while DLC pack 2 was the one that was going to go heavy on plot content. Some people speculated that we’d be able to play as the deceased Champions or as Zelda herself. I wasn’t expecting anything that ambitious, but I was hoping for something like a little epilogue, or maybe a new map or island to explore.
What was actually released is maybe 30% story content and 70% stuff like the first DLC pack, AKA more endgame challenges and Shrines. The Champion’s Ballad, which is only unlockable after you’ve beaten the four Divine Beasts, actually starts off weirdly in that it makes you go back to the game’s starting area and clear out several enemy camps with a new weapon called the “One-Hit Obliterator,” which lets you KO baddies in a single strike but also decreases your health down to a fourth of a heart. New, more deviously difficult Shrines pop up after you clear out the camps, and once you’re finished with all of them, the Obliterator disappears...making it a strange, temporary tool that seems solely designed to create an arbitrary difficulty ceiling.
Once you’re done with the One-Hit Obliterator section, you’re sent to four corners of the map. At each location you need to complete three more tasks AND more shrines before tackling a boss and unlocking a never-before-seen memory of each Champion. (Finally, story stuff!) Unfortunately, here’s where I started to get weary, because the challenges to unlock said memories are mainly rehashed tasks from the main game (like sand seal surfing), the Shrines are all sorta annoying and the bosses are the same versions of Ganon that you fought in the past, only slightly harder and now in some nebulous “illusory” realm that looks like it was run through an Instagram filter. (It was at this point when I realized that this DLC felt more like a remix album than anything else.)
At the very end, there is one new Divine Beast to conquer, followed by an all-original boss battle that’s arguably one of the best parts of the DLC. If you’re successful, Link wins himself a spiffy new motorcycle that makes travelling around Hyrule a breeze...except it’s also kind of useless because by the time players unlock it, there’s just not that much left to DO, unless you’re still trying to collect all of the Korok Seeds or complete the game’s original 120 Shrines.
Don’t get me wrong, the bike certainly is a fun toy to play with and has resulted in some amusing videos on YouTube. And the new memories, though they amount to little more than 15 minutes in total, are very good. (There’s one scene in particular of Link, Zelda and all the other Champions that’s practically tear-inducing.) But the questline that you need to endure to get the bike and these teeny nuggets of plot just didn’t feel worth it, IMO. It seemed like it was designed to appeal to a certain type of player - the ones who are 100% completionists and loved the complexity of Breath of the Wild’s Shrines.
If you’re one of those persons, then I think you’ll enjoy this DLC. Sadly, I’m not a member of that group, and I’ve mentioned in the past that dungeons have never been the main reason why I’ve been attracted to Zelda games. For me, I play Zelda to be swept away by a sense of adventure, and the experience of climbing mountains, racing across Hyrule Field and learning more about a post-apocalyptic world was what made Breath of the Wild one of my favorite games of 2017, not its 120 Shrines. If you’re in the same camp as me and haven’t already bought the game’s $20 season pass, I recommend just watching the new cutscenes and boss fight on YouTube and calling it a day.
Speaking of that $20 season pass (which is the only way to purchase the game’s DLC), do I consider it a waste of money in hindsight? Well, not entirely. I did enjoy parts of the Master Trials in DLC pack 1, possibly because that stuff came out shortly after the game’s release and was never advertised as a “new original story.” Would I have enjoyed The Champion’s Ballad more if it had been released earlier and if the marketing language hadn’t shot my expectations skyward? Yeah, probably. As it stands, I still maintain that Breath of the Wild is a fine game, but when it comes to the post-launch content, I need to point out that we live in a world where Horizon: Zero Dawn - The Frozen Wilds, Bloodborne: The Old Hunters and both Witcher 3 expansions (the gold standard of recent downloadable content, in my eyes) all exist. DLC doesn’t have to be arbitrary stuff that should have been included in the base game, which kinda feels like the case here. Nintendo can, and should, consider doing a little better next time.
I made the Breath of the Wild/Akira comparison pic myself! Though a quick peek at Twitter shows that I wasn’t the only one with that bright idea...

So after 180+ hours, my husband and I finally bothered to beat Ganon and finish the main story of Breath of the Wild. I have been wanting to talk about my various likes and dislikes for a while, but I wanted to at least wait until this point. We still have plans to keep playing (need to get all those Koroks and also working on a World Boss-related thing), but at the very least, most of our goals are done.
This WILL contain spoilers so if you do not want spoilers, you may not want to read this just yet. This also will not be a proper review–if you’re looking for that, reviews will be up on my husband’s website.
That said, this is going to be a bit different than most of my other ramblings as I’m going to be talking from a standpoint of watching more than playing and thus, will focus more on the characters and story and music and things versus controls and gameplay. Zelda is a game I grew up always watching and so each one is like its own movie for me and thus, it’s something that I’ve always gotten more out of watching than playing (though, I still play sometimes). I will say, just to give an idea on what to expect, Ocarina of Time is my favorite Zelda followed by Skyward Sword. I also don’t think it’s possible to really rank Breath of the Wild due to just how different it is, but let’s get to it.
Starting from the top, I’m really glad they voiced the game for the most part. I actually do enjoy most of the English voices and some, I even prefer to the Japanese such as Impa’s, but others, like Mipha, go back and forth for me. Sometimes I think they sound fine in English and fit well compared to the Japanese while other times it just feels sort of off. The only voice I really found myself disliking is Zelda’s because it’s just… so different from the Japanese version and in general, I find I prefer when they at least try to get a voice that is a similar speech/tone in every language because otherwise it can give such a different feel to the character and it really does. Despite her saying the same things, it doesn’t feel the same and it’s just really odd and I don’t understand why they gave her such a dramatically different voice.
It may also just stand out to me because I relate to the Zelda in this game a lot. I don’t want to turn this into talking about myself and own experiences, but I empathize with her so incredibly much and she is definitely one of my favorite characters in the game and definitely one of my favorite Zelda’s. Besides Zelda’s voice, the main thing that bothered me is the fact that Link never speaks. We kind of get a reason for why this is in Zelda’s own diary in the castle, but the problem here is the fact that: 1. He doesn’t have his memories so this should no longer be an issue to begin with right now. 2. By the time he does have his memories, many moments are just… incredibly awkward because he doesn’t say anything. He doesn’t even have to talk much, but the silence just doesn’t always work here and it genuinely removes part of the immersion of the moment, which, ironically the reason they probably wanted him not to speak is to not ruin it for the player. We’re rarely even in the first person though to ever actually feel like we’re Link. There are the moments where he looks down at the Sheikah Slate and one time towards the end and that’s really it. In general, considering we see all the memories in third person omniscient (which is weird in itself considering it is supposed to be Link remembering these things and not only are we seeing everything in third person, but we’re seeing and hearing things Link wouldn’t have been able to), it just makes everything all the weirder.
If they do continue with the voice acting in Zelda games, I really hope they will reconsider and actually give Link a voice, even if he doesn’t say too much.
Going into things more story-related, I really want to know what was with all the blue in this game. Hyrule Castle’s banners aren’t blue, yet the Champion’s clothes, Zelda’s Princess Gown and Scholar Outfit, and Link’s outfit in the game were all various shades of blue and I just… don’t understand why? I wish there was some explanation for why Link didn’t wear green in this (heck, you even get a “traditional” tunic for the game if you finish all the shrines…) or why Zelda’s dress was blue in this game instead of pink/purple. I feel like we were given changes for most things (such as Ganon’s appearance), but not really any information on this and I feel it’s something that will bug me for a long while. Despite my issues with Hyrule-related colors, I adore the Zora designs in this game. All the jewelry that Mipha wears is so pretty and I think she has an amazing character design–I really wish she was given more than just being another unrequited Zora love interest to Link.
I will say though, this story is… really depressing. Like no matter how I think about it, I think the story makes me feel more sad than happy. In general, I don’t think any Zelda game really has a 100% happy ending, but at least I feel like things are mostly positive as they continue to improve. Here, things will start to improve, but with all the loss weighing heavily on it. 100 years of destruction, Castle Town is gone, Link finally has his memories back, but his family is probably long gone. The fact that the only Champion that even got to see some of their family/a descendant is Daruk. I wish Mipha got a chance to see her brother and father. I wish Urbosa got to see her daughter. Revali is kind of a jerk, but I still wish he got a chance to see his home too. The fact that Zelda’s last meeting with her father was that fight on the bridge is absolutely heartbreaking. He finally wanted to properly comfort her and he died. She didn’t even get to see him before his soul finally rested.
It’s just… really heartbreaking in a lot of ways. Heck, the fact that as you go onto each Divine Beast talking to their spirits and then having to fight the enemy that murdered them 100 years ago. There’s such an overall heaviness that even upon saving Hyrule, it still feels a little empty–like it wasn’t enough. And Zelda blames herself where, even if maybe she could get her summoning power working (which is another thing–I’d love to know more on why it didn’t work sooner (besides her losing her teacher and mother), why it had to wait for that moment and what that specifically unlocked it), she never would have reached them. There’s just so much loss that even after saving Hyrule, I still don’t really feel satisfied.
One of the things I really hope the DLC adds, especially after the post-game scene if you have all the memories, is a post game with both Zelda and Link going around and trying to help build back up Hyrule and talk to everyone who suffered these 100 years and/or lost someone. Maybe someone can even play as one of the two and it’ll be a fun co-op journey. I don’t know how possible that actually is, but it’s what I really hope they do. Even if not a co-op thing, I just want a proper post-game. While I get why the whole “oh, you can go back and re-fight Ganon because we put you right before it!!” thing exists, I feel it’s really out of place with this kind of game. I feel like maybe they could’ve had an option if you go in the castle to ask if you’d like it set to before you fought Ganon, but it just looks kind of silly to be exploring this enormous map with the same evil castle and people worrying about it.
The world itself is quite amazing. There’s so much to explore and I’m not really sure if we’ve even seen all of it despite how much we’ve played and getting more than half the Koroks… speaking of Koroks, while I love them, I wish there weren’t so many. 900 is just way too much and while I can guess why they did (with such a big map, gives more people more chances to find them randomly upon their explorations), I still think it would have been better to just have a smaller amount. I mean, there’s 120 Shrines which is only ~13% of the amount of Koroks. They could’ve done a similar amount and been fine. Especially if it means we wouldn’t need to zoom in as far as possible to even see the ones we’ve found.
I also really love that every character has a name and personality. Everything is so dynamic and you learn so much about all the people in each place. It kind of reminds me of part of why I enjoyed a lot of the Side Quests in Majora’s Mask. Here are just some of my favorite side characters: #gallery-0-4 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-4 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-4 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-4 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

Included in favorites but not shown above as that would make this post even longer: Every single wild animal + dog + horse + donkey :P
I would say my biggest issue with the game is the item durability and limited weapon/shield/bow space. I just dislike those kind of systems and while I enjoy most of the changes in the game from traditional Zelda games, this isn’t one of them. I think I’d have at least been less annoyed if item limits weren’t an issue and you could repair everything, but it just was disheartening to use a lot of things I really liked only to end up losing them. At least my favorite weapon could always be replaced. Unfortunately, my favorite bow was forced to disappear and only be used in the final battle :P I wish you got to keep some version of it as it’s really pretty.
Going back to the world of the game, I will say I have… mostly good feelings on the music, but it’s a bit odd as well. I liked everything I heard, but because it’s all very atmospheric, there isn’t really much that is very iconic. Like Breath of the Wild’s main theme is definitely one of the most recognizable new pieces for the game. There are Battle-related ones as well, but I don’t care for those too much myself. The thing is, and what I feel a lot of people demanding for these forget, even if they had a few selections for bigger songs as you explore, the constant repetition when exploring such a vast world would get incredibly annoying. The game wants you to explore and a constant song playing over and over would just get tiring. This also means when certain songs like Kass’ Accordion or the big boss battle themes start playing as you explore, they’re THAT much more recognizable and it really helps them stand out.
I remember when my husband and I first ran into Kass. The Accordion started playing and his first thought was that the music changed for the area while mine went straight to there being an actual Accordion Player and urging him to find them. I was clearly right, but it made it such a standout event for our playthrough which I don’t think would’ve been as exciting if the music wasn’t the way it is. Or like wandering around and hearing the music change and seeing a giant Dragon fly by. That was so exciting to run into on our first exploration of Faron.
Even Hyrule Castle, despite being like this… dark, gritty, remix of various past songs, the fact that we don’t actually get to hear most of them outside that just makes it all the more of an experience. And I’ll be honest, I did get a little tired of it just from exploring the entire castle–I think if you’re just heading straight to Ganon, the music is perfect for the atmosphere, but if you’re exploring every single nook and cranny, it does kind of get to you after a while.
My favorite songs are probably Prince Sidon’s theme, the music for Zora’s Domain (which is one of my favorite places in the game along with Satori), the music after beating a Divine Beast Boss, Princess/Zora Champion Mipha’s theme, Gerudo Champion Urbosa’s theme, Rito Village, Rito Champion Revali’s theme, the Epilogue Theme, and Captured Memories. Captured Memories especially, while just being a remix of the original Zelda theme, is just so beautiful and I wish it was longer. And while not necessarily my favorites, I also really enjoy the Molduga Battle Phase 2 song, Kass’ theme, the Dragon theme, Attack on Vah Medoh, and The Divine Beasts Strike. Also Hestu’s theme is always amazing as is his dance:
Going into some minor things that I wish were changed up: 1. More spaces for more Horses (and it’d be fun if you could Board other things too). 5 isn’t enough when there are so many amazing horses in the game. As it is, because we didn’t realize one side quest required a horse we had boarded, we had to give up a horse we had already become attached to. Sure, it let us make room for the Giant Horse, but it’s not really an issue I liked running into. Similarly, I wish you got to pick which Horse you used at the end. If we knew the first horse you boarded was picked for the end battle, we would have boarded Epona first rather than me having a panic attack seeing Shortcake show up who, besides being my lovely pink horse, also had some of the lowest stats which made the battle a bit trickier than it should’ve been. 2. I wish we could get more houses. I love the house quest and how decorated it gets once you buy everything, but it just made me really want houses in some other places too. I feel like with how you help build up Tarrytown too, it was like setting up for a house there as well that never came. 3. The awful Blood Moon cutscene. Good for the first time to introduce it. Bad every other time. Like the moon is red and fire-y ash is practically floating down everywhere–we can kind of tell. I get that you can skip it, but it still felt frustrating to even see it come up? Even just the option to turn it off permanently. We once had the cutscene pop up 6 times in a row. I wish I was kidding. 4. Not being able to complete the 3rd stamina wheel or the 2nd Heart row :/ Even if you do everything, you’ll be 3 short. I hope maybe you can get more in the DLC. 5. I wish there was some gear to make rain not effect your climbing because wow, does that ruin things a lot. 6. Please stop making every Zora Princess/member of Zora royalty be in love with Link. It’s always unrequited and they deserve better characterization at this point. 7. I really disliked how the Fairies were done in this game. Ignoring the creepiness of some of the cutscenes, I just don’t like the whole “give us tons of rupees to let us help you” thing from it and I would’ve preferred some kind of puzzle or other aspects over paying them tons of money. The Horse God is really the only one I can understand the “money to open” thing, though, they also terrify me in a whole different way so… 8. More Rupees. I get that there is a reason for them to be so scarce in this game, but it still felt like too much. 9. The lack of Saria’s song in the Lost Woods or even by the lake named after her. Saria is one of my favorite side characters in the series and that is one of my all-time favorite songs (In fact, I used it as my town theme several times in Animal Crossing–the original, Wild World, and City Folk). 10. I REALLY WISH THE TRUE ENDING LET THEM HUG. They just walk off together and they both just need a hug, okay? 11. It’s silly that the Champion Powers/Gifts will only recharge once you fully use them. If I use up one of Daruk’s charges essentially, I shouldn’t have to wait until I use up all of them before it’ll start recharging any. It can be a longer charge when there’s at least one left, but it’s incredibly silly to be wandering around for hours on this last charge only to get somewhere I may need to use multiple, have just the one left, and then get stuck waiting. 12. Not an actual dislike, but I genuinely do want to know why the Gorons were let into Gerudo Town. The fact that you never get some kind of answer to this bugs me. 13. The Yiga Clan are just super annoying. The stealth mission was also kind of annoying–I wouldn’t have minded so much if it wasn’t for the fact that being caught made it an endless stream of them attacking you versus just the group of three that initially attack. 14. While I do love most of the tools in this game, I genuinely miss the Hook Shot/Grappling Hook.
Which, speaking of tools in the game, I know some people are mixed about getting everything at once and while I’m a bit mixed myself (mostly because I wouldn’t have minded if we got a few things later on similar to how we got the camera feature), I actually really liked that we did. I think it gave people a lot more freedom to experience the World in so many different ways versus having to do it in the same order every time and/or get certain things before being able to go back to properly solve a puzzle. There’s many things where I’m sure we didn’t solve it as intended, but I think that also makes it a lot more fun too.
So yes, overall I really enjoyed the game. I have a lot of feelings about it, clearly. I’m really anticipating the DLC and I hope they bring out more information soon. Despite being nearly done with the game, I think we’ll still be finding new things overtime, even once we 100% it. Also I really hope someone makes Sand Seal Plushies:
Ramblings about Breath of the Wild (Unsurprisingly, I had a lot to say :P) So after 180+ hours, my husband and I finally bothered to beat Ganon and finish the main story of Breath of the Wild.

Trick Or Treat - Off The Charts
"Welcome ladies and gentleman to another round of Off The Charts! With Halloween right around the corner, we elected to give this week's build-up to Week 9 a frightful theme. While we don't have the honor to have Mr. Kace Sanders giving us his best impression of Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde as he breaks down the year so far; we do however have some sepulchral stand your hair on the back of your neck discussions."
"Isn't it spooky how coincidently some of these teams have been so spine-chillingly dreadful around a time we're all supposed to be scared? Some teams certainly will have their work cut out for them the rest of the year, there’s still enough football for teams to make late pushes for the postseason which only means playoff races will start to heat up, in earnest, now that it’s almost November. This weeks segment will focus on the some Halloween themes for teams and players, while we don't do this every year, perhaps we should start handing out our tricks and treats for the teams of the Elite Fantasy League. Would you all mind a handful of fearsomely break downs every Halloween season?"
"If you want that then all you got to do is follow these directions to compile a formula that calls for 3 ounces of mummy dust otherwise known as Adam Vinatieri, 10 hairs from big black cat Leonard Williams, 6 G.O.A.T bleats from Tom Brady, and 1 supernatural run by beast mode, Marshawn Lynch. I wish you all good luck in that endeavor - but without further ado let's take a look at some of these tricks-and-treats."
"Ghoulish goodies have been a treat for several teams this year, more specifically road teams. Maybe it’s time we soften the stance on the importance of home-field advantage. Through Week 8, road teams are above .500, with an overall record of 63/58/0. That’s the most road victories through eight weeks in EFL history. Only one team, Rainelo Hawks are undefeated at home. Only two seasons have taken place in which road teams have finished with a winning record, though none of them have happened since 2010. The team's on the road this week (The Busy Killers, Yuba City Sultans, Straight Edge Society, HellbentKronik, The Canadian Cripplers, Balls Deep, Thunderbuddy4Life, and Hyrule Empire) will hope to serve up a few tricks to opposing teams in Week 9 contests. A specific team that has caused October nightmares for opposing offenses is deserving of all the treats that they want. Pretty much everyone expects Evolution to be among the best-coached and most efficient teams year in and year out. But Hyrule Empire has been one of the biggest surprises so far, remaining one of the top teams in 2019 and having a defense that has dubbed the boogeymen, Hyrule Empire has now gone 3-1 against teams in the Walsh division, the tough division in the league so far and silenced the media fare around PURPLEHAZE. Coach Diamond is a brilliant defensive mind and has Hyrule Empire dominating in sacks, takeaways, and total yards allowed. Not only that but this offense is averaging 181.1 rushing yards per game and time of possession is up to 34:31, both of which are second-best in the league. Hyrule Empire has started to lay waste to teams finishing with an October record of 4/1/0. I'd say the last treats given should be to the players vying for the league-MVP. It seems like the consensus for the player who most deserves the most valuable player award changes each week. At varying times, quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers (Yuba City Sultans), Deshaun Watson (BroncosTillDeath), Lamar Jackson (Straight Edge Society), Russell Wilson (Hyrule Empire), Dak Prescott (The Busy Killers) or Patrick Mahomes (The Busy Killers) each had a legitimate argument. Evolution running back Christian McCaffrey and Black Hole Son receiver Michael Thomas is even getting some love in the conversation, too. It’s almost as if each player is trying to one-up the field, and it has been fun to watch."
"As for the ones who deserve no treats and have only given us tricks and unnerving play first goes to the refereeing and rule changes. The rule that coaches could challenge pass interference calls brought optimism that the league would be taking legitimate steps to correct the inconsistency associated with the enforcement of fouls. The problem has been that the rule change has been mostly for show. Just this past weekend, only the second successful pass interference call was overturned, despite there being well more than 20 challenges. In many cases, there appeared to be a clear case for a foul. That’s why the league used the “clear and obvious” language when it crafted the rule. Coaches should use the first half of the season as an indication that unless a player gets held all the way down field, they should hold onto their red challenge flags. The clear message is that unless it’s an egregious case, any challenge is going to be a waste of a timeout and ultamtely a trick from the league to the coaches. Wizardly play calling has been a treat for us but there have been a ton of plays that have encited the loudest boos beyond the grave from die-hard fans even in death. Aside from Matt LaFleur, the coach of the 6/2/0 Yuba City Sultans, and Sean McVay who has Ballsdeep at an even .500; it has been rough for rookie coaches who have combined for a 10-23 record through Week 8 this year. Two of those teams, Cripplers and Straight Edge Society, are winless and in the middle of complete rebuilds. Throw in HellbentKronik, and it’s safe to expect multiple years before any of them are legitimately competitive in their divisions. Buds Bums are a different case in that they have young talent at key positions and have fallen well below of expectations. Their schedule does lighten and become easier, so Chicago should in theory improve. But there’s no other way to paint the start of the season for Buds Bums than as a letdown. Kickers have decided to dress-up earlier for Halloween as unreliable Kickers - If it seems like it has been a bad year for kickers in the EFL, it’s because it has. This season has seen the highest number of missed combined kicks, field goals and extra points included through Week 8 since 2008 with 121 misfires. That mark is 12 more than the 109 that happened through eight weeks in both 2007 and 2017. It says a lot that even long-time kickers are going through troubles. Adam Vinatieri has battled inconsistency all year and may be time for that mummy to hang up his wrappings and call it a career. Teams who won in the offseason haven't panned out yet, geared toward VanillaGorillas and The Canadian Cripplers. VanillaGorillas made a splash by adding receiver Odell Beckham Jr., Luke Kuechly, and traded for Mitchell Trubisky and the Cripplers signed running back Le’Veon Bell, Drew Brees, and receiver Amari Cooper. Instead of seeing the infusion of talent gelling right away, both teams have sputtered. The Cripplers have dealt with injuries, but Bell’s production has been minimal. And VanillaGorillas added all those players but didn’t fix its offensive line, and turnovers and unforced errors remain serious issues. This is yet another reason why Evolution is so successful; they make quiet but calculated decisions in free agency and don’t feel the need to overpay. Haunted by their recent success Thunderbuddy4Life was expecting to compete for another Super Bowl. They have an elite quarterback in place, they have dynamic skill-position players. They have a stout defense that has star talent, including defensive end Nick Bosa. Yet Thunderbuddy4Life is 3/5/0 and in fourth place in the Shula division. The good news is that they are 3/0/0 in the division. That means that if Thunderbuddy4Life can get hot and rip off some victories they could get back in the playoff picture fast. Straight Edge Society has skill and talent all around but haven't been able to put it on the field. It has been a hell of a season so far and horrifying to watch. They could easily be 4/4/0 as their margin of losses has been the closest in the league after eight weeks. It's hard to wonder what they need to do to fix things but with recent injuries it is almost certain they will remain six-feet-under the rest of the season and look to 2020 for a bounce back."
"There are so many scares and otherworldly plays that have occured this season so far and PURPLEHAZE, Black Hole Son, and Yuba City Sultans have been bright spots in this league who has had somewhat of an upside down year. Black Hole Son a team who is supposed to be historically bad year in and year out now is slaying teams and getting the apperication they deserve. Yuba City Sultans with Rodgers is taking the league by storm again. Thrilling finishes and wizardly play - Rodgers is like Harry Potter slaying Voldemort on that field, he is magically making a difference, changing the way how this team is ran and putting them back into the talk of Super Bowl. PURPLEHAZE lost but they are still looking like a true contender and have the pieces to bounce back, they should be there when the smoke clears and the Postseason starts."
"As we wrap up this weeked Off The Chart Podcast, we have to highlight we didn't get to talk about everyone but as always we post our podcasts on our blog site and below the enscripted version will be side notes on those teams. Tomorrow we get a chance to see Thunderbuddy4Life take on PURPLEHAZE in a Halloween match-up. Two defenses that are scary strong and looking to diminate making their claim as the ones who deserve all the treats."
Side Notes
The Busy Killers - The Busy Killers have not been able to find consistency other the last four weeks and it has given way to wonder if they will be sellers toward the trade deadline coming up. If they aren't in contention around Thanksgiving time it may be a good chance to part ways with big names and secure top picks for 2020.
HellbentKronik - At 3/5/0 they have Kyler Murray treading in the right direction with a tough match up against former division rival Evolution they hope to continue their two-game winning streak against a stingy Miami defense.
BroncosTillDeath - They have found themselves on the winning column last week and a first time match-up against Balls Deep it is an intriguing match. Both teams seem to have found a formula to win and win every week if everything can come to live from the practice field to the actual field. BroncosTillDeath has some of the best players and they will look to give this young franchise a wake up call at home in Mile-High.
LilShupeScoresBIGPoints - At 4/4/0 they are still in the thick of things but it has been shaky for them with streaming quarterback. Josh Allen seems to be the guy but after a tough loss last week in dominating fashion one has to wonder will they make a change at the Quarterback position or will the muster the adversity with Josh Allen and hope for a turn around in a big match against The Busy Killers who else are in need of a W.
