while we're on the subject of collections, here's all of mine! featuring ponies, the last unicorn, pokemon, and etc
Tumblr media
these are my G4s and G3 favorites, all this stuff is crammed onto my one desk so it's not the most ideal for now lol. There are many more brushables but they just don't fit
Tumblr media
right above those is my etc tier, mostly dragons and a couple Scar related things, adventure time, and LPS (more pending once I can find the rest)
Tumblr media
the top tier featuring all my godzillas minus the 3 foot long giant one! in front with the chicken feather is 2014 goji, in the back with pinkie pie is 2019. you can also see Deet from dark crystal: age of resistance (highly recommend, it's on netflix but only has one season since it got cancelled in true netflix fashion), as well as my buddies Amelia and Rom from bloodborne, and the pyramid is a beetle my grandfather encased in resin back in the 80s for unknown reasons. on the wall to the left is a newspaper clipping of an ad for godzilla vs mothra from the 50s!
Tumblr media
more ponies incoming, these are all my G1s, my changeling collection (still growing, I want an entire swarm), my mostly finished customs, and my Tabitha St. Germain corner to the right with Minty and Ditzy! In the back is the D&D/mlp collab figures. The sign on the wall I found at a thrift store and it says "horses gather here" lol
Tumblr media
my last unicorn collection! this is the collection I'm most proud of, the displayed one to the right is a first edition I snagged for $70. The only editions I have left to collect are the super expensive deluxe/limited version (which just got harder thanks to Suntup releasing three VERY expensive special editions this year), but some of you will remember I did get super lucky earlier this year and unknowingly got a limited print, signed edition of the lost version for $3! so altogether I think the collection is worth around $1300
Tumblr media
my pin collection! <3 some are in a display box and some are on my go bag so this isn't everything. the keychains are from my personal shop, a couple con badges I got in a merch trade (which I'm always open for if anyone's interested! I trade merch or art).
Tumblr media
last one for now, this is the first page of my card collection! I'm not gonna show images of them all but these are the cool guys, I got these guys in a full 1996(? whenever the first printing was) japanese display box back when I was 15 for about $25, so that was quite the massive steal. These are technically leftovers, I've got all 3 starter evos and mewtwo in acrylic cases to display, and these guys are all double sleeved haha. I've got a lot of MTG cards as well but they're all in deck being used (if anyone else is into magic the gathering, do talk with me about it, I freaking love magic hahaha)

it wouldnt let me send asks yesterday for some reason but if u still wanna do that ask thing...... 003 for rarity!
sjfjvjsnf this is a day late oops but !! >:]
How I Feel About This Character: LOVE HER!! She’s so dramatic and funny and genuine and she’s just a fantastic character in general! Her design it so good and Tabitha St Germain is an incredible voice actress!!! Just watching scenes with her in it is so satisfying yknow?
All the People I Ship Romantically With This Character: mainly I like her and applejack bc they are the OGs, they have great city girl/country girl chemistry and every day I think about that one early episode where they got stormed in at Twilight’s house and had to share a bed. like that’s literally an episode!!!! the tropes speak for themselves 😌💕 sncnvjsnf but other than applejack I also think rarity and twilight are a good pair Solely because of That One Fan Comic *starts sobbing*
My Non-Romantic OTP For This Character: again the whole show is just the mane six being best friends so literally all of them with her are perfect snfjvjsnf
My Unpopular Opinion About This Character: again I don’t interact with fandom proper so I have no clue what’s unpopular or popular lol sjfjvjvjsnf I simply Care Her
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: ok don’t come for me I haven’t actually finished the last two seasons yet I’ve been putting them off bc I’m in denial of the show ending oops BUT !! I think it would be cool if there was an episode where Twilight had some princess ceremony that she didn’t know much about and Rarity took it upon herself to be her manager in the refined arts or smth lol
My OTP: rarijack :]
My OT3: honestly I’ve never really thought about this but maybe rarity, applejack, and Fluttershy?? could add a neat dynamic and a splash of softness to their whole vibe ! really tho any of the other mane six could make for interesting groups :3 (I feel like with RD tho there would have to be a Lot of communication bc her and rarity seem like the more jealous types, luckily AJ’s never had a problem with honesty! lol)

Pick 5 shows, then answer the following questions!  Don’t look at them first. Then tag some people.
Pokemon
Jimmy Neutron
The Amazing World of Gumball
Steven universe
My Little Pony
Who is your favorite character in 2?
Carl Wheezer!!! My boy!!! Most people either love or hate Carl and Sheen but they were the best part of the show for me. I like how he’s kinda the nerdy trope but actually not (he’s really dumb). The voice acting for him is A+, the gags with him are my FAVORITE (“that’s not mine...” “that’s not me”). God I love him
who is your least favorite character in 1?
Oh god there’s so many characters in Pokémon. I didn’t really like Paul much. He’s a good character/rival and serves his purpose in the show but uh yeah didn’t really like him.
what is your favorite episode of 4?
THERE’S TOO MANY GOOD SU EPISODES!! The one I go to the most though is Rose’s Scabbard. Such a beautifully sad episode where we learn about Pearl’s relationship with Rose. Plus UGH the music at the end makes me cry every time.
what is your favorite season of 5?
Season 4 for SURE. Season 4 is when I jumped into MLP (yeah after the alicorn stuff). That felt like peak MLP to me. They hit their stride with the writing, the characters were well established but there were new challenges they had to face with Twilight being a princess and all (plus it was before the started catering more to their male audience). It’s also just very nostalgic for me being that it was the first season I kinda watched while being in the fandom.
who is your favorite couple in 3?
Ooof hmm. TAWoG doesn’t reaaaally focus on ships all that much. I thoroughly enjoy Gumball and Penny’s relationship, and Carrie and Darwin are cute as hell. But I think I gotta Go with Nicole and Richard, especially after watching “The Choices”. I hate when shows portray marriages as awful and like the worst possible scenario. They make jokes about it but Nicole and Richard genuinely care for each other. I always think about the part in “The Fury” when Nicole is sad but Richard cheers her up in his own goofy way. So cute ;0;
what is your favorite episode of 1?
I,,, have watched,,, Pokemon XY63 so many times you would not believe.  It’s a Jessie episode (obviously). Seeing her fall for this doctor and do a complete 180 in character was so funny but also gives insight into how desperately she just wants domesticity and to be loved. Seeing James and Meowth be supportive of her choice and letting her go hurts so gooood and the little sprinkled in “twerps offering to help jessie plan her wedding” was wholesome.
I know I can only pick one but HHHHHH SAYONARA DOKUCALE MESSED ME UP. It was one of the first Pokémon episodes I had ever seen and I distinctly remember watching it in my Uncle and Aunt’s living room and SOBBING. Jessie backstory, a twerp truce AND a bitter sweet ending. GOOD STUUUUFFF
what is your favorite episode of 5?
I always come back to Rarity Takes Manehattan (rarity’s my favorite fyi haha). I love love loved the songs, Suri Polomare for no reason is so funny to me LMAOOO. Rarity episodes where she has a creative breakdown, which is most of them, are super relatable haha. There was so much fun Tabitha St Germain acting and great animation. It’s not the most well written episode of MLP but I still very much enjoy it.
what is your favorite season of 2?
This is really difficult bc Jimmy Neutron is just so consistent all the way through. I looked at a list of episodes and most of my favorites are in S2 so I guess that one! I remember watching a lot of these with my brother.
how long have you watched 1?
I’d seen episodes of Pokémon since like the early 2000s but didn’t start watching regularly until DP when me and my brother finally convinced our parents to let us watch it. I feel like we got into it around 2007/2008?
how did you become interested in 3?
Oh god everything about it interested me! Gumball came out RIGHT when I was starting to seriously pursue animation as a career. So, the animation/mishmash of animation styles initially hooked me right away. But then the WRITING. Oh the WRITING is what kept me coming back. It was so smart and snappy and it greatly shaped my sense of humor.
who is your favorite actor in 4?
SUSAN EGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!!! Literally the whole cast is incredible but Susan Egan’s voice is just,,,, WHEW!!!
which do you prefer: 1, 2, or 5?
This is the hardest question I’ve ever had to answer. I love each of these shows for such different reasons. But if I were put in a scenario where someone said “i’m gonna show you a random episode from one of these shows, which do you wanna watch?” I would pick Jimmy Neutron hands down.
if you could be anyone from 4, who would it be?
I would be Sapphire I think. Just like vibing w my wife as a fusion sounds p dope.
would a crossover between 3 and 4 work?
Well 4 did a crossover with Uncle Grandpa so yes absolutely. Plus Gumball is so meta anyways, it would work with generally anything.
pair two characters in 1 who would make an unlikely but strangely okay couple?
delia,,,, and,,,,, jessie
overall, which show has the best storyline: 3 or 5?
MLP for sure! Gumball is super episodic and started having continuity by the later seasons (and the storyline they were gonna have got CANCELLED so!!!!)
which has better theme music: 2 or 4?
Jimmy Neutron is a classic but the fact that there is a full theme for SU and it made me cry when it was released at ComicCon is making me want to say SU lol.
I TAG YOU IF YOU SEE THIS!!!

MY LITTLE PONY: FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC: THE LAST PROBLEM *OPINIONS*
Daaaang, I can’t believe this is it.
After 9 years it came to an end...and so close to the actual Anniversary date too (from 10/10/2010 to 12/10/2019). If they wanted to do something special, they could have waited to conclude the series with a new season next year, since 10/10/2020 will be a Saturday, AND it will be the end on Season 10 on 10/10 after precisely 10 years! (10-ception!).
But, all in all, maybe it’s for the best, considering a lot of people, myself included, found that the last 2 to (someone even) 4 Seasons had started to fade both in quality and entertainment, so it might be better to stop here instead of keep beating a dead horse pony.
So, for the last time for this series, here’s my opinions:
Tumblr media
I’ll start by saying I usually love time-skip final epiosdes/chapters, since I’m always pondering ‘Ok, but what happened to everyone once they defeated the final baddie(s) and went on with their lives?’
Which, unfortunately, it’s what many hate instead, since it sometimes limits the imagination of people who created their own stories set in the future for some characters or even makes canon things they might not like (especially when it comes to ships....more below).
To be honest, having Twilight transfer to Canterlot to rule over Equestria seemed really unecessary. I might understand if she still lived in the old Golden Oak Library (press F to pay your respect), but she already had a Castle she lived in Ponyville, with the seats for everyone of the other Mane6+Spike surrounding the Friendship Map from which they could rule as (almost) equals:
Tumblr media
So why the hell did she need to move to Canterlot? Especially since we were proved time and again the Royal Guards are useful as much as the former Princesses of the Sun and Moon when it comes to protect anyone from threats!
Sad to say, unfortunately it was just a plot device to teach the lesson that ‘No matter if friends go on their separate ways, if they have a strong deep friendship, they will never grow apart’, which is good and all, but it still logically makes no sense.
One good thing though was seeing in both Canterlot and Ponyville different creatures starting to spread beyond their realms (Integration of different cultures for the win!) and that they could also apply for positions formerly given to just ponies, like Gallus having entered the Royal Guard or Yona and Sandbar taking care of Carousel Boutique, although I was a little disappointed to see that the Wonderbolts were still formed just by pegasi. How cool would have been to see Changelings, Hyppogriffs, Griffons and Dragons integrated in their ranks (damn elitist winged pony assholes)?
Speaking of Yona and Sandbar, as I said this is also the thing some people hate about time-skips: ships becoming canon or, more specifically, seeing their ship being canonically sunk.
Aside from Lyra and BonBon proposing in the last pre-ending episode and seeing them getting married on a newspaper in this episode (which I belive didn’t really upset anyone in the fandom), the other ships were really something else as for ‘dividing the fandom’.
From the episode alone, we might say that the official couples in the time-skip are:
Lyra and BonBon (as I said, made canon in the newspaper Twilight was reading while packing to move);
Pinkie Pie and Cheese Sandwich (married and with AT LEAST 4 kids, considering Little Cheese had with her Boneless 6, since Cheese gave Boneless 1 to Pinkie which later turned into one of the keys to open the chest that contained the Tree of Harmony and he got Boneless 2);
Rainbow Dash and AppleJack (not confirmed, but very much implied with their whole discussion as they entered the room with Twilight and Spike);
Discord and Fluttershy (again, not really confirmed, but highly implied/possible);
Yona and Sandbar (once again, highly implied but never 100% confirmed, but I wouldn’t mind if they ended up together).
So, yeah.....loooooot’s of ships being sunk in the last 7 minutes of the show, with those from 3 to 5 being the most dividing ones (I myself also find odd the choice of having AJ possibly paired with RD, considered in the last few Seasons the show seemed to hint more towards a possible RariJack scenario, like the writers of Equestria Daily also seems to have embraced).
All in all, it is what it is and aside from the first two which are pretty much 100% canon, I still believe the fans may very well take those other pairings as not-couples and keep shipping the other Mane 6 with whoever they want.
As for Luster Dawn (BTW, what the hell is with Royalties and choosing to have their protégé having a name related to a portion of the day?), I found it quite clever to have her not wanting to spend time in making friends and Twilight deciding to send her to Ponyville to see the error in her reasoning:
Tumblr media
And we also saw in the final song of the show the only indication that maybe, MAYBE the main show was connected to Equestria Gils (where so far we were only given proofs that the other way around was true, that the universe of Equestria Daily was connectied to the main show):
Tumblr media
Final Verdict: 8/10. A good way to say goodbye to the show.
Well, what can I say as my final thoughts? It was a wild ride in these last 8 years (since I caught up with Season 1 a few days before Season 2 started to air), with a lot of artists I discovered thanks to this show and even a small group of friends I made along the way. Some lost interest in the show or stopped to create new material for the fandom, but most of them I kept following and kept in touch with up to today, because this really is the Magic of Friendship, so I’d like to make some thanks. To Lauren Faust and the whole team of many MANY writers who created the show and kept going on even when Lauren decided to take a different way after Season 2. Thanks to Tara Strong, Andrea Libman, Ashleigh Ball, Tabitha St. Germain, Cathy Weseluck, Kelly Sheridan, John de Lancie and all the other voice actors/actresses and singers who gave their voice to our protagonists. Thanks to Hasbro, DHX Media, The Hub and Discovery Family for sharing this generation with us all. And a BIG thanks to the fandom. Whitout us, the show wouldn’t have reached this levels and wouldn’t have gone so far.
And, remember, as long as people will keep creating material with these characters, the fandom of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic will never really die!
Let’s see what Generation 5 will bring us, and as always: PONY UP!

Lost Episodes? Well, You Better Go Find Them!
Ever browse through the internet looking for the lost ideas that never made it air? Have you gone to conventions just to hear the insight on what the show staff left out? Are you already on board thus defeating the purpose of me giving a third example?
As a fan who enjoys the occasional interview, commentary, or behind-the-scenes tid-bit, that describes me pretty well.
I always like hearing the stories we could’ve gotten. To me, there’s an element of intrigue, and the same feeling I get hearing urban legends except with the confirmation that this was in fact true information.
This month we saw the revival of the script for Fame and Misfortune, a story M.A. Larson wrote around the time the staff was writing the 5th season that was then retooled and edited to fit with the current season. In honour of that lost script getting new life, I thought I’d go through and find all the coolest lost content MLP never had to offer!
Of course, to super fans, this may not be new information (I don’t have access to the pony version of the deep web quite yet...), but hopefully there will be some surprises in here for even those who seek out the lost and unknown...
Honourable Mention Section
Tumblr media
Debunked Nightmare Moon the Villain for ALL of Season 1: This has since been corrected by Lauren Faust, but the original rumour was that Faust planned for the show to be a serialized, on-going story, and that instead of being defeated in the first two episodes, Nightmare Moon was supposed to reign over Equestria for all 26 episodes. We now know Lauren always planned for the show to be an ensemble comedy, but it was a very cool rumour nonetheless - Source (x)
Lost Pinkie Pie Songs by Amy Keating Rogers: In the Season 1 finale The Best Night Ever, Amy Keating Rogers says Pinkie was meant to sing a few more songs that she wrote for her. These would’ve been the standard early seasons Pinkie songs, one being called the Pinkie Conga - Source: (x)
The Hub Commercials: While not exactly lost (and hence not on the list), new fans of the show might not have been around before the switch from the Hub to Discovery Family, and have no idea about these hidden gems. These relics include, but aren’t limited to an April Fools series trailer for a Cowboy BeBop inspired Spike spinoff called Dragonfire, a dub of the 2014 Maleficent trailer by the official cast with Discord as Maleficent, and a parody of Kay Perry’s California Girls called Equestria Girls that predates the series of the same name!
3 Scootaloo Episodes Dealing with her Disability in the First 2 Seasons: Since we ended up getting an episode that dealt with this topic in the form of Flight to the Finish, this didn’t quite make the list, but it almost did based on the fact that was originally supposed to be an arc. Scootaloo would’ve taken 3 episodes to learn that she would never fly and achieve her dream of being like Rainbow Dash, according to Lauren Faust, but ultimately, the little squirt would learn her real worth didn’t depend on her wings or abilities - Source: (x)
Lightning Dust’s Redemption: Anybody out there holding out for hope for Lightning Dust? What if I told you she could’ve already been redeemed? Well, it’s true. Our good friend Megan McCarthy released two portions of the original ending on her Twitter, including one where Lightning Dust become Rainbow Dash’s wing pony (Source: x):
Tumblr media
Derpy’s Deleted Flashback Scene, The Last Roundup: Remember how people got mad about Derpy’s voice and clumsy behaviour? Well that was nothing compared to the destruction they had planned. Originally, there was going to be a flashback to Derpy accidentally destroying the town hall, thus giving the episode an inciting incident. Amy Keating Rogers let us in on the original scene (Source: x x), and well, it wouldn’t have ended pretty:
Tumblr media
With those out of the way, let’s get to the real list of unreleased goodness! Remember, all of these have been confirmed, and you can check the sources as they’re provided for proof.
#10. Lauren Faust’s Big Mac Episode
Tumblr media
Imagine a timeline where we got a Big Mac episode in season 1. Now imagine that was going to be our timeline.
Lauren Faust originally planned to have an episode starring Big Mac that featured the then monosyllabic stallion going through his daily life with his three outspoken family members. She’s described it on her Deviantart thusly:
“Big Mac is a stallion of little words. He just keeps his opinions to himself. I think he knows he's around three opinionated mares and it's easiest to just go with the flow. We had a Big Mac centered episode idea where he was helping all three of them one day, just going along with what they wanted to keep the peace (the running gag being that his three family members were quite verbose and he spoke only with facial expressions) but finally got fed up and took off. The Apple ladies worried that they had taken his easy going nature for granted and made a big production out of apologizing and promising not to take him for granted ever again, only to find out that he went into town to get another hand- er, hoof- to help. Of course the only words he'd say were to graciously accept their apologies and promises anyway. I thought it was cute and I LOVE non-verbal gags and acting in cartoons, but it was turned down.” - Source: (x)
We clearly never got the episode, but MLP comics issues #9 and 10, Zen and the Art of Gazebo Repair, did end up following Big Mac through a chaotic day and relying mostly on his expression to get across his feelings. Whether this mini-arc was inspired by the lost episode, we may never know, but we got a good story out of it all the same. Eeyup.
#9. Rainbow and Applejack Help a Deer Family Episode
Tumblr media
Once again, Lauren Faust provides! Since working on the show, Faust has said that one of the early episode concepts involved Rainbow Dash and Applejack stumbling across a deer family with a young pony who thought he was a deer. Perhaps cut for its similarities to Over a Barrel, the episode’s conflict would’ve centered around RD and AJ taking sides of the issue on whether or not to burst the “deer’s” bubble.
Ironically, Applejack and Rainbow Dash took surprising positions on the issue, given their Elements: Rainbow Dash wanted to break the news to the pony, whereas Applejack wanted to leave well enough alone.
Jokes about their Elements being switched aside, I would imagine this episode would’ve established the depth of their characters outside of their roles as the Elements of Harmony. Rainbow Dash would rather speak her mind and be blunt and deal with the consequences afterward despite her loyalty, and Applejack would rather tell a lie if it meant keeping a family together.
In my opinion, this most likely would’ve set precedent that even the each of the Mane 6′s Elements have areas of exception, and those areas reveal something about each pony.
And, if all that wasn’t cool enough for you, this episode also took place in White Tail Woods, which is where it got the name that stuck with the show despite the episode concept being lost. You can still find White Tail Woods on the official map to this day.

#8. The Curious Case of FlutterDragon
Tumblr media
Here’s a famous one, but a fascinating one: Normally during conventions like Comic Con or BronyCon, when a voice actor gives out information on an upcoming season, it’s pretty reliable (unless it’s obviously a joke).
So, the Comic Con before season 3 rolled around, and as usual, we were getting a lot great information on the upcoming season. Trixie would be returning? There would be a Twilight and Spike duet? Score! One piece of information that stood out, however, was from Tabitha St. Germain, who as you most likely know voices Rarity and Luna.
She said that her favourite recording session was for the episode that “Fluttershy turns into a dragon.”
Not the episode where Fluttershy faces a dragon or anything like that that had already aired.
Megan McCarthy eventually had to debunk this theory via Twitter, but I kept this on the list because it came from an official source all the same. A recording session that never made it to air that, to this day, hasn’t been explained? Now that’s mysterious.
I have to wonder if that was a warm-up of some sort, just to get the voice actresses in character. Of all the staff members, Tabitha is one of the least likely to just troll the fandom, so I still have to believe she was truly referencing something. Even Andrea Libman, Fluttershy herself, seemed to know what she was talking about as Tabitha described it being funny hearing Fluttershy’s soft voice coming out of a giant dragon.
The story behind this pick alone is enough to make me wonder...

#7. Rarity’s Deleted Scene in Luna Eclipsed
Tumblr media
Have you ever noticed that there’s one pony missing in Luna Eclipsed?
Well, Rarity originally had a scene that explains her absence. Lauren Faust to the rescue again!:
“...May I ask why Rarity wasn't in it? Lauren: She was in the script. Sounds like she got cut. Kitmit: What was she supposed to do in the script? You think she would of made herself some fabulous nightmare night costume... Lauren: She was still working on her costume, and perfectionist as she is, it wasn't ready. (I forget what it was.) There was a whole sequence where Twilight brought Luna to Rarity's for a makeover, hoping she could give Luna a "softer," less intimidating look. Rarity freaked out about getting to dress up a Princess and over did it, covering her in the pinkiest pink princess get up ever. Luna disliked it and in taking it off, had a piece of the dress in her mouth. Pinkie showed up just at that moment and screamed that Nightmare Moon ate a princess and all the kids screamed and ran. Source - (x)
Rarity’s over-dramatics most likely would’ve made this scene hilarious had it made it to the final cut, and honestly, that’s all I need to say. Tabitha St. Germain might’ve spread the FlutterDragon rumour by accident, but she’s one hell of a comedic voice actress, and her playing off of herself and Tara Strong for a scene could’ve been a stellar performance.
At least we know where Rarity was the whole time now... and judging by Scare Master, she learned her lesson and just went with something less than utter perfection the year after. Does that count as character development?
#6. Zecora’s Mentor Role
Tumblr media
This might be common knowledge for hardcore fans as well, but in hindsight it’s such a loss that it deserves it’s own spot.
Zecora has become critically underutilized, especially in later seasons, but that wasn’t always meant to be the case. Zecora was originally meant to fill the mentor role in Twilight’s life while Celestia was busy in Canterlot. Of course, Twilight would still write to Celestia for guidance, but Faust also said:
“If we had penned more adventure stories, the only difference I can think of is that perhaps you would have seen more of Luna and Zecora.  Zecora was designed to be a sage and mentor to whom the ponies could go for information about their quests. She was designed to be a second mentor to Twilight, but that didn’t come to pass.”  Source: (x)
We can see bits of this throughout the series, though, in episodes like Secret of My Excess, The Cutie Pox, and Magic Duel.
If she were Twilight’s second mentor, it might have even been interesting to have a conflict between Zecora and Celestia about some kind of magic, leaving Twilight in the middle to struggle with the fact that both of the authority figures might not be teaching her the right solution, and it’s up to her to decide. Just some speculation, based on where Twilight’s character would’ve been at the time...
Perhaps Zecora’s role can be reclaimed in the future, as she’s included in more episodes to come. But for now, we can only think of what might’ve been.
#5. Sunset’s Duet, Homesickness Storyline, and Alternate Ending to Friendship Games
Tumblr media
Okay, so this is definitely well known, but given just how well-constructed and nearly finalized this story-arc was, I couldn’t leave it off the list! Plus, something something Sunset Shimmer bias.
Thanks to the Friendship Games DVD extras, you can watch all the deleted scenes, including the duet, over here if you’ve never seen them:
youtube
youtube
I always found the parallels drawn so satisfying, even if the alternate ending had Sci-Twi leaving for Crystal Prep.
In hindsight, what’s even more interesting is that they’ve seemed to go in the opposite direction with Sunset: when she finally did return to Equestria, it was rather reluctantly, and only briefly. Despite the fact that she has friends and an ex-mentor on the other side, she seems to be eager to stay in the human world.
Or, maybe she’s avoiding somepony...
Seeing how completely opposite things could’ve turned out is fascinating in and of itself.
#4. Lost Slice of Life Gags
Tumblr media
How could that episode get any crazier? Slice of Life is already the epitome of our absolutely wild fandom, what more could there be?
Well, of course, M.A. Larson does not disappoint for this list, providing some insight into missing scenes like a Devil Went Down to Georgia inspired cello battle between Octavia and King Sombra.
In fact, there’s a whole list of cuts:
“In the first draft Vinyl Scratch's talked, but they told him she doesn't talk, so it was removed in phase 2.
The original Vinyl Scratch and Octavia scene involved Vinyl crashing at Octavia's house and destroying her sofa. So she goes to Quills and Sofas to buy a new one. They weren't originally roommates, but The Hub and Hasbro made them roommates.
Flash Sentry was originally in the script. He was following Cranky asking why no one likes him.
Another cut scene was a group of ponies coming in, and a group of their recolor ponies running into them, followed by awkwardness.
His original reason for not wanting to bowl, was because he had trauma as a kid where he couldn't figure out the physics behind it, which lead to his science focused career.
Outside of episode 100, there was originally a cut scene where after Twilight is coronated, Rainbow Dash and her fly around Equestria, eventually ending up in dragonland where they do a musical scene. There was a scene where Derpy is saying "I don't know what to do doc! I don't know what to do!" and the camera pans over to reveal Dr. Caballeron, revealing Derpy at the wrong table with the wrong doctor.  Gags like this were throughout the entire original script.
After everyone is gone and in the town hall, the bat ponies and royal guards are outside doing silly impressions of Princess Luna and Celestia. "Every day shall be cake day!".
At one point, Lyra tells Bonbon to "stop using that ridiculous voice!" to make fun of her other voices.
In the script, Gummy had a french accent.
There was a moment where Doctor Whooves is running up to Carousel Boutique, and he sees Opal and Tom.
A scene between Coco Pommel and the pony from season one in Boast Busters with the green mane that Rarity accidently insults was cut. She had a full green wedding ensemble on with Coco's stamp of approval, and said she couldn't wait until Rarity saw it as revenge. Coco Pommel then says she doesn't really like green, and asks for anything in pink.
The original ending had the hugging scene with the mane 6 being their usual end-of-episode corny selves, but the camera pans to the sunset where a changeling army is flying in...”
Source: (x)
This episode went through a lot of research and development to get just right, and even I would’ve loved to see all of that be left in, we ultimately only have so much run-time per episode.
But if that weren’t enough to convince of why I admire M.A. Larson as a writer...
#3. Fillidelphia Ragtime
Tumblr media
I suppose you might be wondering how a single undeveloped episode idea can beat out all that Slice of Life goodness.
Well, it comes down to structure, adult (but nowhere near too adult) implications, and a really intriguing idea.
I’ll let Larson make the pitch himself:
youtube
(55:24-57:50)
Larson pretty much immediately sold me on this. I think because there’s a part of me that loves implying the maturity of these characters without going into it for the kids sake, and honestly, it would be so much damn fun.
This episode was never meant to be, it seems, but damn is it ever a good premise.
2.5. Twilight Nearly Resigns From Being a Princess
Note: I stumbled on this one late in the game and instead of bumping something off the list, I decided to cheat and give you all an extra pick. I’m a stinker that way.
We know Twilight wasn’t always so sure about herself as the Princess of Friendship, but did you know she almost gave it up?
“In "Amending Fences," Twilight is at her lowest low and goes to visit Celestia in the middle of the night. She tells her mentor that she has to give up her role as princess of friendship because of how her past actions have affected Moondancer. She says, "How can I tell others about the magic of friendship if I've killed that spirit in somepony else?" Celestia then surprises her by saying that the lesson Twilight is in Canterlot to learn is one that she herself has only recently learned. Twilight is surprised...Celestia knows everything about everything. But Celestia looks out the window at the moon and says, "Some relationships are so broken, so filled with bitterness and anger that they seem impossible to mend. But the lesson you're here to learn now is that it's never too late to repair a broken friendship." So Celestia uses her own experience, her gradual rebuilding of trust and friendship with her own sister, to tell Twilight that everyone goes through it. This gives Twilight the hope that she can fix things with Moondancer. I thought it was a nice scene, but you only have 22 minutes and this was an easy cut.”
Source: (x)
Easy cut my ass! That’s a huge deal! Twilight would’ve come through in the end anyway, but it’s still interesting to know how close she could’ve come to giving it all up...
#2. Seapony Two-Parter
Tumblr media
Seaponies? In G4? Don’t be ridiculous....
But it was true. One of Lauren Faust’s ideas at that. She would’ve designed them after the sea ponies of the first generation, with a plot sounding preeetty darn cool:
“Hasbro never asked for seaponies, but other ideas that had nothing to do with them. Lauren was hoping for a two-episode special so that she could have the proper build up and payoff for the seaponies, but the idea never came up. Lauren planned for the style of the seaponies to be the same as G1 with seapony bodies and pony heads. While Lauren didn't have the seaponies in her show bible, she had a plan for incorporating them. The episodes included one of the seaponies washing up on the Equestrian beach and begging for their kingdom to be helped. Their kingdom would be in the Equestrian Ocean, drawing inspiration from Greek and European mythology. She even thought about using the Kraken as a villain.” Source: (x)
Undersea shenanigans and the chance to make a genuinely terrifying sea monster the villain sounds perfect, to be honest. This may not have fit within the schedule for the first two seasons Lauren helped work on, but lo and behold, we’re finally getting around to the fish-horses one way or another! I find it hilarious that in G4, they’re almost majestic and carry with them some sort of epic quest for the girls.
Shoo-be-doo, indeed.
#1. The Series Finale Version of Magical Mystery Cure
Tumblr media
After all this time, Magical Mystery Cure holds up in some regards (Celestia’s Ballad is gorgeous no matter what, the animation is beautiful, etc.) but good pacing, it was doomed to never have. Writer M.A. Larson asked the studio execs if they could make it a two-parter, because at the time this was going to be it, they really didn’t know if the show would be renewed. Buut Hasbro said no, so a two-part story had to be crammed into a single episode.
Even with that aside, what was the series finale of MLP going to be like?
Larson recalls that his original script was more a Pandora’s box story than anything else. Celesita sent Twilight a box and, by letter, told her student to wait for her to get there to go over the high level magic inside. Celestia’s mistake was telling Twilight this would lead to a new level of her studies.
Twilight, of course, couldn’t handle waiting to see the amazing magic within, and just like Friendship Games, her curiosity would’ve gotten the better of her. Which, of course, is when she would’ve unleashed the cutie mark swapping spell.
Celestia would then send Twilight a letter that just read My faithful student, what have you done?
To imply that even Celestia herself couldn’t handle this.
In both versions of Magical Mystery Cure, our favourite reader becomes an author of a spell, but in Larson’s story it’s a bit more clear as to what exactly Twilight’s spell does.
Twilight wasn’t just finishing a spell to create new magic (which... only seems to undo what the first part of the spell does), she was rewriting a spell that was already in existence. The words even rearranged on the page for her.
Granted, I like the idea of Twilight standing on the shoulders of giants to earn her wings (finishing Starswirl’s spell) but what a way to end the series: with the book that opened in the first episode closing, implying that Twilight and her friends became legends.
But, in the end, I’m glad we didn’t get that version of Magical Mystery Cure, because what we did get, and what came after, was worth anything that was lost.

Review: My Little Pony - Friendship Is Magic Premiere Year: 2010 Category: Animated Television Series Company: DHX Media Limited, Hasbro Studios
In this very gloomy time in the history of animated TV series, it’s very hard to find something animated that can really be considered good entertainment. Either the shows you come across are terribly written, or just plain ugly to look at. And that brings me to ”My Little Pony - Friendship Is Magic”, which is niether of those things. It’s the exact opposite, wonderful and practically perfect in every way. Yes, I know My Little Pony is in essence a ”Girls’ Toyline”, but with this new TV series, I can’t help myself. This show is like a lonely snowflake on a dark and gloomy day… Small, but still lovely enough to brighten up the entire day. Yes, I am a boy… And No, I’m not sick and I’ve not gone crazy. I really like this show, and I’m about to get to why.
”My Little Pony - Friendship Is Magic” is the latest television version of the well-known and loved pony toys made by Hasbro, and it is the result of the effect of the recent reboot of the Transformers franchise. After Michael Bay’s Transformers movies helped take the Transformers franchise into new heights of popularity, Hasbro wanted to do the same thing with the My Little Pony franchise, which together with Transformers, was one of the company’s flagships in the 1980s. And from what I’ve seen, I actually think that this new My Little Pony series works much better as a reboot then the Transformers movies, and that’s saying alot.
The show airs on The Hub, a TV channel founded by a cooperation between Hasbro and Discovery Communications, Inc., and is produced by Hasbro Studios, Hasbro’s very own entertainment production studio, and is animated by DHX Media Limited, which also animates the ”Littlest Pet Shop” TV series, another Hasbro toy-based series which also airs on The Hub.
Animator and writer Lauren Faust, who had previously worked on shows like ”The Powerpuff Girls”, was hired to create a pitch bible for the show, but she says she was ”extremely skeptical” about taking the job at first, because she had always found shows based on girls toys to be boring and unrelatable. So with this show, she wanted to show that a girls cartoon didn’t have to be all ”Cutesy-Whootsy”, and thereby incorporated into the character-designs and story elements that contradicted Idealized stereotypes of girls, such as diverse personalities, messages like that friends can get into arguments but still be friends, and that girls shouldn’t be limited by what others say they can or can’t do. And I can say in all my honesty, that her plan has been… A Total Success!
The story is centered around the unicorn mare Twilight Sparkle (voiced by Tara Strong), who comes to the little town of Ponyville, sent by her mentor Princess Celestia, (Nicole Oliver), to study the magic of friendship. Twilight is not so interested in the task, since she’s more into books then friends. But then, when the evil Nightmare Moon appears, vowing eternal night and causes Celestia to disappear, it’s up to Twilight and five other ponies, the tomboyish pegasus Rainbow Dash (Ashleigh Ball), the fashion-crazed unicorn Rarity (Tabitha St. Germain), the shy and timid pegasus Fluttershy (Andrea Libman), the hyperactive and funloving pony Pinkie Pie (Andrea Libman), and the hard-working cowgirl pony Applejack (Ashleigh Ball), to find the Elements of Harmony to defeate Nightmare Moon. But after Nightmare Moon snatches and shatters the Elements, and Twilight realizes that she needs her new friends, she also realizes that each six of them represents one of the Elements… Rarity is Generosity, Applejack is Honesty, Rainbow Dash is Loyalty, Fluttershy is Kindness, Pinkie Pie is Laughter, and Twilight Sparkle is the most important element of them all, Magic. After defeating Nightmare Moon and turning her back into her original form, Princess Celestia’s sister Princess Luna, Twilight is assigned by Princess Celestia to continue living in Ponyville and studying the magic of friendship with her new friends. And that’s all just in the first two episodes of Season 1. But don’t worry, the rest of the series is just as good as those first episodes.
The show features a few songs, and they sound much better then any television songs Disney has made in recent years… Well, except for the songs in Disney’s ”Doc Mcstuffins” and ”Sofia The First” TV series, but the songs in this show are still better then most of Disney’s television songs nowadays, and that’s saying alot.
But the biggest surprise for me about this show though, is its animation, which is done in the computer programme Adobe Flash, which is almost like making traditional cel animation, just on a computer instead of with a pencil and paper. I might repeat this many times in the future, but… I hate Flash animation! I hate it, because the finished animation in Flash usually tends to move in an unnaturally quick pace, which gives every movement a very mechanical and nonorganic feel to it, plus that the images tend to look very flat, like cut-out figures pasted onto a background. But this show is nothing like that, and that’s the surprise, and a happy one at that. The animation in this show is very fluid and natural, and the characters and everything else really feels 3-dimensional, and that makes me one happy camper. Wow, Flash animation that I actually like?! Never expected that to happen within this millenium.
In conclusion, what makes ” My Little Pony - Friendship Is Magic” a great show, is its wonderful story, colorful characters, beautiful songs, and the fact that it’s actually making a great contribution to the evolution of animation, by taking Flash animation, one of the worst animation forms in the world, and making it appealing, natural in movement and giving it a real 3-dimensional feel that other studios using this software usually doesn’t care about. You see, Flash is normally used as a cheaper and quicker alternative to traditional cel animation, and that’s why earlier shows produced with it usually tends to be terribly animated and generally have very awful stories. This show though… My god, it’s wonderful. I personally like the characters of Applejack, because of her cowgirl attitude and her southern american accent, and Fluttershy, just because she’s generally cute, with her shy way of speaking and all. But what really sells this show for me, is the fact that it’s not overly ”girly”, which people might expect from its title. Oh No, it’s just perfect to attract even a male audience, and it actually has got a strong male fanbase, as I’ve recently learned from Wikipedia. So I’m not the only male who likes this show, and that makes me very relieved.
My Final Grade: Thumbs-Up, Way Up!

So, someone on reddit said that if you want to hear what funny love Garu would sound like if he spoke, you'd have to look at Knuckles in Sonic Underground, and that lead me on a bit of a rabbit hole to see what Pucca's voice would sound like. Tabitha st Germain has a lot of range, which means its hard to find a voice she's done that fits with Pucca.
She's the voice of Minty in MLP Generation 3, and this was around the same time Pucca was being aired. This is also the closest to a voice fitting for a character like Pucca. So if you want to hear what Pucca's voice sounds like, just listen to Minty from MLP :)
I also debated mentioning Grace from Barbie Princess Charm School, but that's way later than when Pucca would've been airing, and therefore probably not applicable. I'd love to know if there's anything more fitting that could be found, though.

Bling-Bling, Darlings
Really, what we’re asking when we pose a question like that is what is Rarity’s character based on. It’s more than fair to say at this point the Elements of Harmony themselves are obsolete, but they undoubtedly helped to form the characters and set a course for their development in the series as a whole.
And since the real aim of this post is to map Rarity’s character-arc over the course of all 7 seasons and counting, it only made sense to me to start at the beginning.
Or, rather, before the beginning, in the show’s very development!
Once upon a time, when Lauren Faust first dreamed up our main cast, all the Elements were pretty well the same as what they would be in the show. All, except Rarity. Before she was the Element of Generosity, she was the Element of Inspiration.
When I was looking over Rarity’s biggest lessons and teachings, I found that the themes of inspiration and creativity carried over into the show in interesting ways. Not just that she’s a dressmaker, and uses her medium to bring out the beauty in others, but that that creativity may have turned into her biggest character flaw. Her greatest tool and yet her biggest burden.
I think Rarity’s generosity still very much defines the core of who she is, but what I’ve always admired about Rarity is her complexity. Her versatility, her presence. All of these things are owed, in part, to the theme of her development: Expectation Versus Reality.
Of course, this is just my interpretation, but as far as I see it, this over-arching theme usually presents itself in either one of three ways:
How we see Rarity, and how she really is
How others see Rarity, and how she really is
And most importantly, how Rarity's flights of fancy (emphasis on the fancy) conflict with reality
So, this fashion week, I’d like to take some time to appreciate the true beauty that is Rarity. Finally. With this, every member of the main 6 finally has their own editorial (I... clearly didn’t time this out well), and so it seems we saved one of the best for last. Here’s to you, Rarara!
A Tale of Two Rararas
Tumblr media
From the beginning, we knew Rarity always dreamed of living in Canterlot. And already, I want to pause in the episode-by-episode run-down to say the fact that Rarity never conflicts with Twilight over this just speaks to her strength of character.
Sure, there are certainly times when Rarity can be petty, but as Green Isn’t Your Colour proved very early on, even when she does feel envious, her selfless, giving nature wins out, and she won’t hold it against anyone. A far cry from most diva characters, isn’t she?
But to round back to the point, I always found it a tad ironic Twilight lived the life Rarity thought she wanted. Growing up in Canterlot, rubbing elbows with nobles and royalty, and even becoming a princess. The glamour! The intrigue! The... socially awkward bookworm who saw none of these things as opportunities to be taken advantage of.
A part of me thinks that if Rarity were to grow up in Canterlot instead of Twilight, that Rarity wouldn’t be nearly as down-to-earth as ours is. And whether she’s self-aware enough to realize that or not, Rarity’s never once begrudged Twilight for living out some of her dreams. Instead, she’s just dying to hear about it and support her.
Which leads us to the first major Rarity storyline, in Ticketmaster: wanting to marry a Prince she hasn’t met. This is, of course the set-up for an example of what I was talking about early, the whole expectation versus reality thing with Rarity’s fantasy of a perfect love life coming into conflict with the reality of the jerk she was fantasizing about.
So, we next move onto Look Before You Sleep, and it’s here where we give props to the Rarijack shippers: they’re not wrong that this relationship is cute and important.
This touches on the second part of the theme that I mentioned, how other characters continually learn that Rarity is more than meets the eye. Applejack and Rarity getting to know each other on a deeper and deeper level throughout the series is one of the bigger demonstrations of Rarity’s true depth. She’s not just about frilly dresses and all things frou-frou, as AJ initially believed.
In fact, to skip ahead by one, she’s not your damsel in distress or the frightened princess, either. A Dog and Pony Show is among the classics of season 1 in my book because it’s one of the first times they just straight up tell you Rarity’s resourceful and capable without mincing words. Because hell yeah.
That’s one of the episodes that really play with audience expectation for Rarity, and having it relatively early on was an excellent way to establish Rarity has more character depth than most other fashionista characters in shows for little girls.
Going back to the one we missed, you’ll find another true classic: Suited for Success. I could argue this has a connection to both of the Elements Rarity was initially thought to embody. Her generosity is on full display, not only making these dresses out of the goodness of her heart, but tailoring them to each of her friends’ tastes despite being a fashion expert herself. Then of course there’s the inspiration or creative aspect of it, how Rarity’s struggles perfectly emulate the struggles of real-life professional creatives trying to please all kinds of picky customers.
To add on, I just want to say this episode made me admire Rarity quite a bit. Both her determination to make her friends feel beautiful and her savvy business tactics combined with her creative passion are wonderful traits to have at her core. As entertaining as her dramatics can be (a special thanks goes to Tabitha St. Germain, who never once makes Rarity’s explosions of emotion anything but endearing), have not one but two deeper layers to Rarity makes for an excellent main character.
As we would come to see, both of those core traits have their pitfalls. Green Isn’t You Colour is a fun example, though, because it plays on the negative side to Rarity’s Inspiration Element and yet the positive side of her Generosity. Rarity’s always dreamed of living the glamorous life of a famed seamstress, which leads to her being envious of Fluttershy when she gets to live that out (by the way, if you hadn’t guessed by now, Rarity’s extremely relatable to all creative types). And yet, it’s her giving nature that stops her from being selfish and greedy.
Next in chronological order is the Cutie Mark Chronicles, and this is one of my bigger arguments for the theme I’ve been talking about so far.
So, Rarity’s horn leads her to a rock, and I think with that long build-up of being dragged all over, there’s that expectation being built up in little Rarity’s mind that this must be important. Again, her tendency to dramatize things gets the better of her. Which is why she freaks out when she gets there and it’s just a big dumb rock---but we all know the rock itself breaks her expectations even further when it’s broken, revealing the true beauty deep within the layers.
Expectation, meet reality.
Speaking of, the Best Night Ever is all about that theme, and I think it goes without saying how Rarity experiences it firsthand like the rest of the girls.
Next up is Sisterhooves Social, and I could make the argument that Rarity’s expectations for her little sister not accounting for her well-meaning intent is what causes the conflict. As well as the fact that the reality is, as a little filly, Sweetie Belle isn’t yet capable of garnishing a breakfast the “proper” way, or doing laundry without shrinking the clothes. Rarity’s an adult with adult responsibilities, so really the lesson becomes about appreciating that inner-beauty/good intent that her little sister has while forgiving the lack of ability.
Then, Sweet and Elite happens, which is probably my favourite Rarity episode to date, in part because it reminds me of an excellent Simpsons episode, Scenes from the Class Struggle in Springfield. Rarity’s had dreams of living in Canterlot since before the first episode, expertly demonstrated by the song The Type of Pony Everypony Should Know.
But even though there are wonderful elites like Fancy Pants in Canterlot, Rarity finds the bullshit of devaluing ponies like her friends is in fact pretty damn toxic, and that the social hierarchy that she’s admired for so long would put ponies she loves at the bottom. Again, awesome episode, really demonstrates what you might think would be a simple story about Snooty Rich People v.s. Humble Country Bumpkins into a story about a character’s changing worldview on class systems.
After that, we move onto Rarity Takes Manehatten and--- wait, that can’t be right... What do you mean there wasn’t a Rarity episode for almost two seasons?!
I seriously had to have this pointed out to me by the ever insightful @digikate813 because as much as I love Rarity, I didn’t even notice until I really looked.
In part, you could argue because Rarity got so many episodes and starring roles in season 1, that might’ve been the reason they held off on developing her in season 3 (that, and obviously the shortened 13 episode run), but still, not a fun time to be a Rarity fan.
Anyway, Rarity Takes Manehatten. Season 4 was all about showing how the characters could either betray their Element, like Rainbow Dash and Applejack, or be betrayed by it, like Pinkie, Fluttershy, and of course Rarity. Twilight ended up literally having to choose between magic and friendship (which, by the way, still shocks me that her fatal flaw is that, to quote my favourite book series from my childhood, she “would give up the world to save a friend”...).
And for Rarity, her episode ends up being the antithesis to Green Isn’t Your Colour, where she’s at her best creatively, but her giving nature ends up biting her in the ass. And yet, it’s still the same overarching theme: with the blind trust she places in Suri Polomare with her fabric, Rarity fully expects that Suri is well-meaning. She doesn’t even for a moment hesitate until it’s too late, and the reality of, as Suri puts it, being in the big city.
After that, it’s time for more Rarijack, as we take a look at Simple Ways. Essentially my take away from the episode in terms of Rarity’s overall arc is that she and Applejack, at this point, know each other better than they know themselves, which continues the theme of looking below the surface to find the true beauty within.
Speaking of true beauty, next we have Inspiration Manifestation, which is the episode I first thought of when thinking about the theme of this post: that in some ways, they ended up using Rarity’s old Element of Inspiration as her biggest flaw.
Yes, you can argue that the greedy Rarity we see in Return of Harmony is the literal antithesis of our beloved fashionista, but you can’t deny that the delve into the dark side of Rarity’s dramatic imagination and expectations for how things should/will be much more, this episode being the prime example.
Under the dark magic’s influence, Rarity’s version of Ponyville is... really gaudy. Gold paved streets gaudy. What’s interesting about that is that it becomes more about glory than it is about making it aesthetically pleasing, because when she comes out of it, she seems really taken aback by it. This wouldn’t be Normal Rarity’s ideal Ponyville, it’s just a way of showing herself as the most creative, most beloved pony there is.
And honestly, again, Rarity is extremely relatable to creative types. How many of us have wished we could just manifest our creative thoughts instantly, no work required (but would probably end up abusing that power if it were real)?
Continuing on, we have Canterlot Boutique next, and as Rarity’s very own Magical Mystery Cure or Crusaders of the Lost Mark, it really does emphasize the theme I’ve been talking about. Rarity’s expectations for owning her own boutique in Canterlot and creating a dress known all across Equestria comes into direct conflict with the reality of the business aspects of it all.
To the point that her business manager is made to seem to the audience like a villain for a while there, until Rarity finds the solution and we realize Sassy Saddles isn’t evil, and can in fact help Rarity’s dream. Even the solution itself is to make her business (manager) work by her rules, and cultivate her creative expression. An excellent episode for an excellent end-cap to Rarity’s goal.
Now, here’s a question: did Rarity’s character arc end when her goal was reached?
Drama Horse Sans Drama?
Tumblr media
Because up until this point, that whole expectation V. reality thing has mostly been centered around Rarity learning how to be more grounded, appreciate intentions as opposed to results, and realize her dreams of living the high life often don’t take into account what that might actually entail.
But in Canterlot Boutique, well, she did learn the harsh reality of that situation, but I don’t know that she applied it universally, realizing that she herself didn’t account for how difficult it might truly be.
I think it was a huge step in her development, but she’s far from done growing, and far from done being overdramatic about things. But there is a shift after this to Rarity teaching others.
Rarity Investigates! is an easy example. Rainbow Dash doesn’t have faith in Rarity’s deduction skills because she assumes(/expects) that Rarity’s focus on details is only frivolous.
In Made in Manehatten, Rarity’s main role is to reassure Applejack that even if she’s out of her element, she’s still useful and contributing. On the flip-side, Applejack’s “Day” Off demonstrates how close they are by having Rarity make Applejack relax for once.
The Cart Before the Ponies is an exception to many things, though. Here, Rarity’s once again the one in need of a lesson, as she gets lost in her pursuit of righting a past wrong to the point that she’s blind to the reality of her sister currently wanting to try making her own cart.
P.P.O.V. might seem to buck the trend of Rarity and Applejack understanding each other, but I think that’s due in part to how each character was trying to get out of their element, and thus, totally confused the ones who know them so well. So, yes, Rarity doesn’t understand the “sea madness” Applejack has.
Moving on up to season 7, Forever Filly has Rarity again in the student role, learning the opposite of what she did in Sisterhooves Social. There, it was that Sweetie was too young to be as capable as Rarity expected of her, but here, it’s that Sweetie Belle can’t stay young forever. I see what you did there, writers.
Honest Apple shows Rarity helping Applejack not be a dick about her opinions, and giving young, up-and-coming fashion designers a platform she would’ve killed for at their age. What a good horse.
And then we have Fame and Misfortune, an episode that showcases, among many other things, Rarity’s response to harsh criticism. The episode sets out to prove the mane 6 still have flaws, and it certainly does, proving that even though Rarity’s learned quite a few lessons, that Element of Inspiration in her/her creative side still wants to be loved and valued for her work.
But I’ll leave us off on her part in Campfire Tales, because while it may be a small role, it proves, in essence, what Rarity truly values is a blend of both the Elements I’ve been rambling about. Rarity admires Mistmane not for her popularity or status, but for the way she gives to others by spreading beauty. Generosity and Inspiration combined.
Just like Rarity herself whose proved herself more entertaining, more heartfelt, and more beautiful than meets the eye. I wouldn’t say she’s done growing, but whether it’s the knowledge she’s gained through personal growth or fashion advice, Rarity will always share beauty.
