i know these two scenes are meant to be taken kind of light-heartedly, but i really can't stop thinking about the heel-turn change in the way evan and jammer are treated by the staff of st. dotto's. and how that mirrors the real-life subjugation people face for questioning the norms of society. ESPECIALLY in medical/psychiatric environments.

the pilot program are initially treated as honored guests by the staff of st. dottos, but this treatment is contingent on their conformity. the minute evan and jammer openly question the norms of the hospital, they are labeled by the staff as threats who deserve to suffer institutional violence. evan must be crazy and psychotic. jammer must be angry and violent. both for nothing more than CORRECTLY identifying the fucked-up nature of the system. and to me i see a clear parallel to what people who experience psychosis and/or are Black often face in the real world the moment they refuse to conform.

like. you have questioned the status quo and that deems you unfit to be part of our society. we will subjugate you to violence because it's what you deserve and because other people need to be kept safe from you. we're not a danger to you. you're a danger to us. it's all too fucking real!!!
