Day 3 of Analysing Taylor in Quarantine

Day 3: the last great american dynasty [tlgad]

1 sentence summary: tlgad is a song that can be understood as a song about how our lives are all intertwined with people we have never met.

"Rebekah rode up on the afternoon train, it was sunny Her saltbox house on the coast took her mind off St. Louis Bill was the heir to the Standard Oil name and money And the town said, "How did a middle-class divorcée do it?" The wedding was charming, if a little gauche There's only so far new money goes They picked out a home and called it "Holiday House" Their parties were tasteful, if a little loud The doctor had told him to settle down It must have been her fault his heart gave out"

This is a real story about Rebekah Harkness. Something bad must have happened in St Louis, or something that needs to be forgotten. I read a bit about Rebekah before analysing this song. Bill is her second husband, and since this happened in the 1940s, people were very sexist. No one understood how a woman who had been married and divorced, got married a second time and to someone extremely rich. People with old money, or who have grown up with money, always look down on those who recently became wealthy. People with new money spend it in a more extravagant manner and less subtly, which makes those who have grown up with it look down on them, since people with old money may spend it in a more 'classy' manner. Holiday House is Taylor's current Rhode Island Residence. It is a hugeeeeeeee mansion, said to have 8 kitchens and 21 bedrooms. The Harknesses knew how to throw great parties, like Taylor, but because they were mostly around people with old money, there was criticism of it. Bill might have had a heart condition, and prior to his death, he had had a heart attack the year before too. People needed someone to blame for his death, and even though she was in no way responsible for the death of her husband, people blamed Rebekah, as she was different to everyone else and a woman. The song is already showing sexism and highlighting the message that sexism is stupid, irrational and needs to stop.

The people blamed Rebekah and basically hate her for her husband dying. She was someone new in their community, and without a man, which made the town people hate her more. They had a certain way of life that they were used to, and she came and 'ruined' things. But she was being herself, and she was doing things that she wanted. She wasn't living her life to fulfil society's expectations of her. That is a similarity between Taylor and Rebekah. They both to an extent did what society wanted them to do and were who society wanted them to be, but after sometime they figured that they weren't really those people and tried to be themselves, which is something new since, in Taylor's case, the press is very critical of her, and for Rebekah, her neighbours were very judgemental. 'mad' also alludes to track 12, 'mad woman' which seems like a continuation of this song.

"Rebekah gave up on the Rhode Island set forever Flew in all her Bitch Pack friends from the city Filled the pool with champagne and swam with the big names And blew through the money on the boys and the ballet And losing on card game bets with Dalí"

Rebekah stopped trying to get her neighbours to like her, and figured that the people who actually liked her were the only people whose opinions mattered. The 'Bitch Pack' could be a reference to Taylor's 'Squad' as both are groups of close friends, who are immensely trustworthy and the best type of people. 'pool with champagne' is a hint to 'this is why we can't have nice things' on 'Reputation', where the line is, 'everyone swimming in a champagne sea'. She [Rebekah] didn't care about her reputation anymore with the townspeople. The 'big names' are the shareholders from Standard Oil and the rest of the town is probably very frustrated that she knows them and is still on good terms with them, despite her husband's death. This shows that the Standard Oil people are open minded and don't care about the wealth as long as you're a nice person. Taylor is also hinting at things the media says about her, when she says, 'blew through the money on the boys', as the media has frequently slut shamed her for doing something any normal 20 something year old would do. Rebekah loved the arts and ballet, and started the 'Harkness Ballet', she was also friends with Salvador Dalí, a famous artist.

The change from mad to shameless shows that whatever you do people will criticise you for it. Rebekah wanted to be herself, enjoy her life with people she knows she likes. Rebekah really couldn't care less about her reputation with the townspeople, because they didn't make any effort to know her, at least that's what it seems. Rebekah is happy being herself, and she wants to be herself and while she's being herself, she doesn't care about who's saying what about her.

"They say she was seen on occasion Pacing the rocks, staring out at the midnight sea And in a feud with her neighbor She stole his dog and dyed it key lime green Fifty years is a long time Holiday House sat quietly on that beach Free of women with madness, their men and bad habits And then it was bought by me"

The people chased her away. The sea brings calmness in people and all Rebekah wanted was a peaceful life. The people were pretending that she hadn't lost her husband when they were making the rumours about her. The sea, alone, at midnight, was one place she felt at peace. People called her mad for wanting to remember the happy times she had with her husband, when they would throw parties which is why she kept doing it, and she kept getting more annoyed with them, until she snapped, reasonably, and did something truly mad. Obviously, after dying her neighbour's dog, she must have fled and gone back to St Louis. The listeners don't really know how this song connects to Taylor, since she's known for her songs being personal, until this line. It was a really climatic moment for me personally. Once you hear this line, you can see the ways in which the song relates to her also.

"Who knows, if I never showed up, what could've been There goes the loudest woman this town has ever seen I had a marvelous time ruining everything"

The media makes a bunch of rumours about Taylor and people may not have wanted her as a neighbour because of this, but she didn't care what people thought of her. She was living her best life and thats something that people [the media] shouldn't give her hell for. She also highlights sexism with the use of 'woman' as both Rebekah and Taylor's actions would have been praised had they both been male.

"I had a marvelous time ruining everything A marvelous time ruining everything A marvelous time I had a marvelous time"

The repetition shows that Taylor really didn't care what other people thought of her, and what mattered to her was how she thought of herself. It's almost like a chant she is repeating for herself, 'I am happy I am being me'. Ending on 'I had a marvelous time', shows that she was and is truly happy.

Overall review: I love this song, the message and everything behind it. Honestly, the last thing I expected a song to be written about was a house, but when I was analysing this, I realised it's so much more than a story of a house. I also think it's cool to write a story for an inanimate object because it's something that you can make feel like the most haunted [pun intended] or enchanted [also intended] thing ever, and you can create a fantasy world in a real world. I love the song writing of this song, the lyrics, the parallels. Honestly Taylor smashed the assignment yet again.

Amy 28nachos know claims they don’t know who’s behind babygate. They literally get more deluded by the day and they don’t even realise it.

I mean, let’s break this down

When Larries started with their conspiracy theory, their initial target was Modest Management. I think it was mostly because they thouht they’d identified one of Modest’s employees in the background of some pictures of Louis and Eleanor and she was like a “beard handler”, you guessed it, they harassed her to hell and back

They also believed Harry was crying here

Because Marco Gastel, another Modest Management employee asked to take Louis and Eleanor’s picture

Truth is Harry went outside without his sunglasses and the glare of the sun was hurting his eyes. He wasn’t crying. I don’t even know if that’s actually Marco taking their picture, not that it’d be in any way suspicious for Louis and Eleanor to ask someone to take their picture if it were

They spent all of 2012, 2013, and most of 2014 yelling Modest was closeting them against their will, they called them “management”

This one is long but boy it was funny to read

In late 2014 this wack ass theory started to crop up, I believe mostly from lapelosa, worshippedlove, stagtatto/handslows, and verily (all of them are either not Larries anymore or have abandoned their blogs), the theory was that Sony was on the Larry side and Modest was against them. Which is… incredibly amusing

When Harry started being spotted with Jeff and his family more and more, certain blogs started pretending to have insider knowledge about how Irving was actually going to sign the whole band and save Larry. These blogs were diggingandfluff, srslycris, lapelosa, larryappreciation, and some others that escape me now. They were 100% sure and even kept at it all the way into March of 2017, just five days before Harry announced his solo debut

Obviously Irving and Jeff didn’t sign the band. Jeff signed HARRY, which was something the “antis and hets” Larries love to disparage predicted all the way back to 2014/2015

So Larries now hate Jeff, they think he’s incompetent and the product of nepotism. They don’t admit to having been wrong for over three years, to have lied about having insider knowledge. Cris and Kati have justified Angela (lapelosa) by saying that she trusted sources when she shouldn’t have.. and you know what? I could excuse a naive Larrie trusting a “receipt” because it plays into what they want to believe and it doesn’t really have a big impact anyway, but Angela spent literal years saying over and over and over again that she knew for a FACT that Irving would sign 1D, that Harry wouldn’t go solo, that Louis and Harry were engaged, and Kati and Cris can play it off like “well we didn’t trust those things, she did” but they reblogged the posts and never raised their voices to say that they didn’t necessarily agree

The result of this is an endless wave of hate towards Jeff, who’s one of Harry’s best friends and welcomed him to his family, and also a lot of hate towards Harry from rads. Rads believe Jeff/Irving are actively working against Louis, that they’re the ones that designed “babygate” that it’s all to “lift Harry up”, that it’s putting the “burden of the closet” on Louis so Harry can be his “true self” and how incredibly unfair that is

But we’ll go back to this, first we have to establish who Larries blamed when the Modest vs Sony theory became visibly absurd and while Azoff was still seen as a good guy. Well, it was Simon Cowell

Simon became the root of all evil. Now, I don’t particularly like the guy, he’s shady and greedy, but he’s a music executive, they all are shady and greedy. That’s how they get to the top

For a long time the Larrie theory was that Syco was behind all of it, that they knew they were gonna lose the band because the original contract was ending and there was no way they were signing a new one. That Louis was the mastermind behind the band breaking away from Syco so Simon was punishing him with all the events of 2015. Then they found out that as they were cooking up those theories, Simon Cowell had sold part of his shares in Syco to Sony and now Sony was in charge. For a while, Larries continued to believe that Simon was punishing Louis, this time because he’d “cost him his empire” (Syco). Then they realized that made no sense, because Louis was still a dad and now Simon wasn’t even in charge, at least not completely, so though at that point they had already started hating on Sony, they laser focused their attention on them

That was the new evil that needed defeating. Sony, in general. But Simon/Syco aren’t good guys either and they also have a hand in this. But also Modest facilitated Sony/Syco’s plans, so they’re still evil. And throw Simon Jones PR there too, while you’re at it

To Rads, it’s mostly a combination of Rob Stringer (Sony’s current CEO) and Irving Azoff, with Simon Cowell as an evil puppet, and the reason for babygate is boosting Harry’s career. They say that Irving astroturfed (sent anons) to tumblrs to convince these blogs that he was their savior and he gaslighted the Larries into liking him only to BAM stab them in the back (instead of just admitting they were wrong and bought a bunch of bullshit from fake insiders and random anons on tumblr). This is really funny because there’s been a bunch of CEOs in Sony (like, three?) between 2012 and now, hell, Stringer wasn’t even CEO when “babygate” started

To Larries, it’s more unclear. It’s Simon Cowell but actually Sony? But Irving isn’t helping Louis either but Rusty and JGG were also evil and it’s just a giant salad. The reason behind it at this point is a big fat shrug. Punishing him because…? Some might spew a bit about Savan Kotecha and how Louis was a “thorn in their side” (so powerful yet so helpless) Some others will say closeting but in the same breath that babygate is still a thing even without Larry (which is all sorts of confusing)

In other words: their theories have never made sense, they’ve never stood the test of time. Time and again they’ve been proven wrong and at this point they don’t even know what they believe anymore. I fact, Twitter and Instagram will still have you believe the evil is Modest Management

A small glossary of people and terms:

Syco was 1D’s original label. Simon Cowell owned it 50/50 with Sony Music. The band also had a deal with Columbia Records (a Sony subsidiary) in the US. In 2015, Sony bought a majority of Syco’s shares off Simon and they’re now the major owners of the company (which includes the music label and the TV production company behind America’s Got Talent, Britain’s Got Talent and the X Factor)

Irving Azoff is a very important music mogul who managed some of the biggest bands in the world (still does, actually). His son, Jeff, is Harry’s BFF and manager. Irving and Jeff merged their respective management companies (Jeff’s Full Stop and Irving’s Azoff Management) along with Brandon Creed’s management company and Tommy Bruce (Tommy Bruce was Jeff’s colleague at Creative Artists Agency, the world’s largest touring agency, they both left to form Full Stop in 2016)

Harry is currently signed to Columbia Records (both US and UK). He has a three album contract that he signed around June 2016

Louis is currently signed to Syco in the UK and Arista in the US. He was previously signed to Epic records. We don’t know any more details of this contract

Harry was pushed as front man in response to him getting the biggest response from fans from the very start. The screams were always that bit louder for him. I don't know if he could have sustained and broadened his appeal without the other guys to both bslance and round him out, but they weren't all equally as appealing to the gp, they all had their fans and like with every boyband ever the ones that were less obviously appealing brought out the mothering protective instinct in a more niche but just as passionate group of fans.

Its just a bit of a stretch to think that if you put Louis and Harry in a blind audition to a random group of people that Harry wouldn't emerge the clear winner. There would be those who love Louis' type of singing but they'd be nowhere near as many ad those who love Harry. Ditto for general attractiveness. Young smiley Harry had mass appeal, it wasn't all some nefarious mgt plot. Mgt couldn't just snap their fingers and make anybody into that kind kind of teen sensation again, or they'd just churn them out every three years like clockwork.

He had a unique infectious happy go lucky cheerfulness and charm, the rest of the band all had great personalities but none of them shone like they were born for thethe camera quite like Harry. You'd fall in love with them, pethaps more so, but Harry had that instant pull. I don't think any of 1D would argue with any of that. They all knew it.

He's totally lost that sparkle, his charm. Maybe it was fame, the people he surrounds himself, with greed? But he seems very ordinary now. He's lost that infectious irresistable joy and goodheartednees he used to seem so full of, the kind that would leave you grinning back at him despite you telling yourself that he just a smug git. He was a born on camera natural performer in a way none of the others were, they were all just that little bit less ready to seize the moment and the spotlight.

Thats showbiz in a nutshell but tbh I think there's lots of early moments where he actually sat on himself a bit to let the others have a moment. He didn't always manage it but he sometimes tried. For a brief while I think he cared as much about the band as he did his own fame. Who knows what happened, but he wasn't always the cold callous Kardashian robot we have now, once upon a time he were really quite loverly.

I can see how annoying the media harriedom must have been for four other talented performers who worked best in a group, But those early moments where he tries to pull himself back but certain others still seem somewhat cold or annoyed by him also kind of break my heart. It wasn't an easy thing for him to negotiate either and for awhile at least he seem to wish it were different. Then Jefe got to him I guess and maybe the others reacted with such distrust that Harry thought FU why don't you trust me? Add in tensions over how to handle larry, relentless touring, gossip and voila. 1 broken band.

Fwiw I think the others probably resented the media focus on Harry as much out of fear if how that would inevitably pull the band dynamic apart, as out of any desire to have that kind of spotlight for themselves. I think they saw it had its onerous side too and Harry shouldered alot if shit too. I can see moments however where someone like Dan W, looking on, would just have assumed were pure professional jealousy. Like earlier anons were saying I think his version of the bands story always a grain of truth to them. And since the others all started the xfactor as soloists they wouldn't be human if they didn't find it hard, sometimes to walk out in front of crowds where the only discernable scream was 'Harry, Harry'.

I think that's why Good Years is such a poignant song to me, their young selves could all see the inevitable coming at them, didn't want it to happen to them, but couldn't help following that cliched band story anyway. Louis just too proud to admit it, so he aggressive and contradictory (why not lash out at Z during JHO promo, given the reason he was mad???) and says things like 'ofc we'll be back' which, given Harry, he can't possibly promise. And who'd want them back just to force them to stand on stage tgthr again with OTRA levels of forced, repetitive playacting??? Its not like they can cover up lack of chemistry with choreographed dance routines.

1D was their chemistry, if that's not there, they're just guys randomly wandering round a looking uncomfortable, or waving with sad sort of smiles, as they wait in line for their turn to sing. What would be the point? Anyway I don't think Harry is ever going to turn back the clock to regain his former self. From 2014, from the time he befriended that Guardian journo who shit on the rest of the band, he turned mean and cold. He'll never be what he was. Maybe thats why he's so quiet. He knows what'll jump out if he out if he opens up, and it isn't 'kindness'.

Probably from around mid 2013, when I would say Hollywood had the rushes from TIU, and maybe there was a rush of new people blowing smoke up his ass, but you can see from that time onward how he gradually became more egotistical about hogging the limelight without a care, stealing the others jokes and asides etc. It was a gradual thing but he really started to change from that time imo, until by Jamaica he'd fallen face first for his own hype and become an actual talking penis.

Take Us Back “Review” ig

Wow that episode was just... wow 😭 That was actually a really good ending (at least the one I got, I'm not sure about any other endings there might be) to an amazing series 😭😭

Also, if you haven’t blocked the twdg spoilers tag, I’ll put a break here but if you haven’t played the episode and/or don’t want major spoilers for Take Us Back, don’t read the rest of this long ass post. You have been warned. (That sounded super serious sksksksks 😂)

Ok so I’m just gonna start off with the beginning when AJ voiced the “last time on The Walking Dead” like damn that entire sequence put my anxiety (which was already super high because I was literally freaking out about possibly getting Clem or anyone else killed) through the roof. He was listing all the things I’ve taught him in the past and that shit honestly gave me ten different types of anxiety.

So, I got James killed in the last episode so I have no idea what he says in this episode or anything like that, but I’ve heard that it’s not great sksksksk

Anyway, the fact that we literally saw James as a walker broke me so much I was literally crying at that point.

And then when AJ said he wanted to be a firefighter damn that shit was lowkey kinda cute. At that point I was a little more relaxed because we were somewhat safe in the cave.

But then shit went so south when we left the cave and after we met up with Violet.

Of course I had to mention the tree house and omg I almost cried again just thinking back to season 1 when we met Clementine in her tree house 😭 (Even though I’m pretty sure she said she hated her tree house in season 2 abgsfhj)

And of course I had to rename Ericsons to Castle Violet who do you think I am

But the bridge OOF

Fuckign Minerva akajsfkjh I’m wondering if there was a way where she could have lived I highly doubt it but damn I wasn’t expecting her just die like that wow I was lowkey kinda hoping maybe she would get some kind of redemption but wow that whole dragged out death was so gruesome but not necessarily in a bad way, at least not for this series sksksksks

And damn Minnie just had to fucking slice Clem’s leg that shit looked like it hurt askdjashdg

AND THEN TENN FUCKIGN DIED WHAT THE FUCK

I think if I hadn’t told AJ to make the tough calls then he wouldn’t have shot Tenn, and Violet probably would have died instead (or Louis if you saved him at the end of episode 2) Fucking hell

And when we split up and Vi went back to the school goddamnit that scared me because I had a feeling something was gonna go wrong AND I WAS FUCKING RIGHT WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK

At this point I was fucking crying my goddamn eyes out because CLEM GOT FUCKING BIT WHAT THE ACTUAL SHIT JFHJKSGHJGF

I was such a mess at this point there was honestly no saving me

The entire time I was shouting at Clem to just chop her leg off at that point because there was no way that Clem was gonna die in such a stupid way like damn. wait fuck that's how Lee died AKSFJKG IM SORRY LEE I DIDNT MEAN TO DISRESPECT YOU LIKE THAT FUCK

Anyway

And then when I got that fucking achievement after that at that point like, first of all fuck you game, second of all fuck you. But seriously, I was genuinely wondering if there was any way to avoid her getting bitten but idk at this point it’s almost 1am I have school in the morning and I am way too tired to replay the entire episode even though it was a lot shorter than I thought it was gonna be tbh probably because I didn’t look around for collectibles as much and because I probably didn’t pause the episode as much as I usually do while making hard decisions sksksks

And then when we made it to the barn and we fucking started playing as AJ I was freaking out at this point

But when Clem was literally dying I was sobbing the entire time and just fuck, the parallels between that and season 1 when Lee died goddamn that shit hurted

I literally had to pause the game at this point because AJ was crying right in my ears and I couldn’t focus because I was also crying and only one of us can cry at a time buddy

Originally in episode 3 I told AJ to leave Clem if she ever got bit but fuck I didn’t think it was actually gonna happen so I changed my mind and told AJ to kill her because god damn I’m not gonna let her turn into a walker fuck that (even though that’s exactly what I did with Lee fuck) (Also I just looked and I’ve literally used the word fuck in this post like 23 times so far sksksksksks 😂)

And when it cut to black after that, literally all that was left was the sound of my sobs goddamn. And the achievement “final lesson” that shit just made me cry even harder

And the fucking ranch flashback right after goddamnit I was still mourning Clem you can’t just have me play as her again like that, shit. Also damn poor AJ 😭😭

And then when AJ was fishing and Rosie showed up damn she actually put a smile on my face somehow. I didn’t think that was possible at that point

Clem’s hatttt 😭 I was so scared I wouldn’t get it because I kept missing the quick time events but then Rosie got it thank god

And omg when we got back to the school and Take Us Back started playing I was even more of a mess I thought the episode was gonna end there but boy am I glad it didn’t

Also omg Ruby and Aasim holding hands damn that shit was adorable

When the music faded out and shit, I was like ok I think there’s still a little more to the episode but then FUCKING CLEM STARTED TALKING AND AT FIRST I WAS LIKE WHAT THE FUCK IS HAPPENING IS AJ IMAGINING THIS BUT NO CLEM WAS ALIVE AND OH MY GOD I LITERALLY STARTED CRYING AGAIN BUT THIS TIME THEY WERE HAPPY TEARS AJHAFSGF

I was so fucking glad that Clementine was alive I didn’t even care about the fact that she was missing a leg I was just so glad to see her oh my god I really thought she was dead

And they all lived happily ever after

Jk except for Tenn GODDAMNIT HE DESERVED BETTER

But seriously, I was so glad Clem wasn’t dead and that mostly everyone was alive I seriously thought I was gonna get a shitty ending (But I’m also a little confused on how Clem survived the bite. I know she obviously cut her leg off and she did say something to AJ about she was glad he didn’t listen to her in the barn which I’m assuming was referring to when she told him to kill her, but if that was where Clem had her leg chopped off, I feel like the bite would already have spread to the rest of her system at that point? Idk I’m not gonna question it I’m just extremely glad she’s not dead)

And the very ending where we walked through the hallway and it showed all the names from the Still Not Bitten Team damn I loved that so much

And omg when we went into the room and were able to look at Disco Broccoli and his friends, I noticed that the option to look at Disco Broccoli kept popping up so I kept selecting it and ALKHASDFJKG I FELT LIKE I ENTERED ANOTHER DIMENSION WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT I don’t wanna spoil it but y’all need to see that if you haven’t already skskskkssk whether you replay the episode and see yourself or if someone makes a video of it on YouTube (which I feel like someone will eventually)

But omg the very ending with the “thank you for playing” that shit hurted 😭 I literally started crying again but not nearly as much as I thought I would tbh I thought I would be bawling my eyes out for hours but at this point I just feel kinda numb 😂 Like it hasn’t really set in that The Walking Dead just ended. Maybe because I can immortalize it forever in my Steam library and replay it however many times I want (and by reading fanfiction sksksksksks)

(Also this post is gonna be put into my queue until more people play the episode so it probably won’t be posted until later tomorrow. So just know that this post was made at 1 in the morning a few hours after the release of episode 4 and I have to go to school tomorrow morning. Wish me luck)

Long story short, that entire episode was amazing (even if it did fuck with my head a little and was a little emotionally scarring sksksks) and I am so glad I was basically able to grow up with Clementine and this entire series

This was actually really cool and even though it made me feel a little guilty because some of these choices I made weren’t the best, oh well

And lastly, I want to thank Skybound from the bottom of my heart for saving this incredible game. If it wasn’t for this company these last two episodes wouldn’t have ever come out and Clementine and AJ’s story wouldn’t have gotten a proper ending. So thank you so much Telltale for starting and creating this amazing game and thank you to Skybound for giving it a proper sendoff.

* mitch grassi, age 21, he/they | oh, them? that’s christopher ‘kit’ louis. they’ve lived in carina bay for, like, one week. last time i spoke to them they were unemployed, and if i remember correctly, they’re a gemini. seeing them around always makes me think of tattered sleeves pulled down over shaking hands, a coquettish cheshire cat’s grin, a mattress on the floor of an empty room with constellations of fairy lights strung overhead.

four muses... what am i doin’ falling a little too in love with carina + writing intros, i guess?? but here is darling kit. he’s slightly more of a mess than his sweet little face may give off and i hope you accept a bit of chaos here in the sleepy town of carina bay because... kit does not come quietly! anyways!! also this is a lot longer than i intended so skip to the bottom if you’d like a SUMMARY

hails from one of the northern states on the west coast. he grew up in a strict religious household which felt stifling and limiting from as early as age 4 when he had to wear a bowtie to easter mass when he wanted to wear one of the cute flowery bonnets the girls got to wear

christopher had a very rigid childhood for this reason. his family lived comfortably but it was only perfect on the surface. underneath the glamour of the picturesque family unit there were cracks -- splintering shards that would eventually drive a wedge between the louis parents and their only child

kit knew pretty early on that he wasn’t straight -- ironically enough, getting the idea from all the anti-gay rhetoric from the church. it gave him the keywords he needed to uncover things like homosexuality and genderfluidity. he also knew to keep it quiet and kept himself securely closeted

figured it was meant to be a secret -- kind of like the secret affair his father was having! or the secret gambling problem his mother was so desperate to hide and blamed on faulty record keeping!

basically, the crux of kit’s childhood is that it sucked and he never felt like he got to be a kid. he was smothered.

kit’s first breaking point came at a young age. he had a childhood friend from church who he had gotten super close to. this friend was very whimsical and sweet -- flamboyant some would say but hey! they were children!!! kit was very amazed by this friend’s ability to just BE HIMSELF!

his parents, however, were less amazed and especially as the two grew to be preteens and stayed just as close, they got more and more concerned. so concerned, in fact, that eventually, they insisted kit end the friendship. it was devastating, especially since this friend had been teaching kit so much about self expression and confidence and just :’(

but he listened and buried his anger, saving it for only a few short years later when it would all come to a head.

kit had his first kiss at age 14. the boy was older and cooler and kit knew he couldn’t go back into the closet after that. he brought that boy home a few more times, half hoping to get caught just so he wouldn’t have to come out. eventually things fizzled out but kit had had a taste and now he wanted MORE

more boys made their rounds through the louis residence and it wasn’t until kit was doing a little more than kissing that he was finally caught. it was as bad as he’d expected, the shouting match. what he HADN’T expected, though, was the ultimatum. stop this ‘gay business’ or move out. he was only a teen still? couldn’t they even do that, legally?

luckily -- or unluckily as it would be -- kit had met someone older who had a place of his own in california and he offered to let kit come and stay with him. they’d start dating and kit would even say this was his first love.

it wasn’t some fairytale though -- it never was. showing his love for his new beau became sexual extremely fast and would start including doing favors for his friends and coworkers too. kit let it happen because at least he was free of his parents and living with someone who loved him

he put up with three years of increasingly toxic conditions in his relationship with his boyfriend essentially capitalizing on his willingness to please, not knowing that would soon run out.

if you stifle kit too completely, he breaks and that’s what happened.

one day, he snapped, he took his things and left. he was completely homeless and streetbound but he was living life according to his own choices for once and it came with a kind of thrill that kept kit motivated!

he turned to sex work of his own volition, finding it as a stable way of making money, despite the dangers involved. it was all he felt he was qualified for and he was good at it. without need of any authority over him, he made decent money at it and started skulking around seedy bars in the outer LA area for men who would take him home for a good time

that’s where he met his now-boyfriend, julian. before julian, kit would’ve sworn he’d never find someone, never get a crush, never fall in love. one night and kit was questioning everything. a few more and he was hooked harder than any drug could ever get him.

eventually, though, him and julian did fall in love and they’ve been dating ever since. he stopped his sex work entirely & drugs slowly became a part of their time together and that’s still very true today. they’re kind of as dependent on it as they are on each other.

kit knows about julian’s past and julian knows about kit’s past. their kindred spirits, both getting their starts way too young and both finding hardships along the way. kit has never smiled as much, laughed as much or loved as much as he has since finding julian so while jules will swear up and down that he’s ruined kit forever by getting him hooked on all kinds of substances, kit thinks julian’s saved his life

they were following one of kit’s elated impulses and taking a road trip from coast to coast and back again on all the money they had left in this run down little jeep station wagon thing when it broke down in carina bay

so now they’re here!!

SUMMARY -- a rough childhood and an even rougher teendom eventually led to one toxic ex boyfriend and a life on the streets. kit found renewed purpose with his now-boyfriend julian who also happened to turn him into a gleeful little druggie along the way. living with no money but a whole lot of love. okay now

PERSONALITY -- enigmatic might be a good way to describe kit. he’s fidgety and easily startled, a very frail little thing. he’s off in his own head a lot of the time but not in a cutesy daydreamy way (like pip) and more he genuinely has a hard time focusing on things. VERY guarded in that you won’t get a peep out of him and his personal life unless you want to talk about his boyfriend who he’ll wax poetic about for hours if you let him. otherwise, he’s social and chatty but about nothing of substance, flirty but with no intention of following through and impulsive to a fault. he’ll make you think you’re his best friend for the evening but not remember you in the morning. only those super close to him get to see a sweet vulnerable side to kit, the rest see this feigned alluring aura and nothing more

i agree with erin. my favorite scene is when we find out that apricot's secret is that shes the princess of darkness. because i did not expect the secret reveal right then, and just like the entire process as things evolved was personally comical for me. cause first her dad shows up in this weird attire, then grandma darkness, then the helmet thing, and then just more from there. like it was a bunch of puzzle pieces all falling into place. if i was a cartoon character thats when a lightbulb and exclamation point wouldve appeared over my head.

Ooh, it was totally unexpected. And most people would consider this as a possible reason why she can't transform! But it's perfectly in-character for her that she never spoiled the reveal by even thinking about it.

It's really funny that there's this whole card-game-based conflict going on in the same world, in the background to the magical-power-based conflict.

Like, that's how the industry as a whole feels sometimes -- though obviously it's not along such a rigid divide (much as marketing companies wish it was).

...realizing now that I don't actually have much personal experience with Video Game Final Bosses, I'm basing this impression mostly on how they get parodied in other webcomics. Like RPG World, or Adventurers.

What I Took From ‘SOTT’ (in terms of Larry)

You can't bribe the door on your way to sky You look pretty good down here But you ain't really good Okay so firstly, it’s an amazing song and I am so proud of my child. But I have missed the excitement of listening to One Directions’ new music to debunk the ‘Larry Lyrics’. What can I say? Larry showed me what love is. I want to believe it where possible.

Just stop your crying It’s a sign of the times

These lyrics repeat during the song multiple times. I don’t think this refers to any specific Larry moment. Because really it could be any relationship although I do like the “Just stop your crying”. Because obviously the whole Larry closeted stunt caused them both a lot of pain. And the ‘Sign of the Times’ could be discussing the whole Gay topic. Think about it as ‘Stop crying this is just what the world is at this time’ because it goes to show how this day and age are about everything.

Pretty self explanatory, honestly I think it’s just going into the fact this has a chance of being about a band member. They are band partners. The had a final show together. Did they know something we didn’t?

This could also be a metaphor for something bigger. Relating to death perhaps? Again this song doesn’t have to be all about Larry.

These to me are very, very strong and meaningful lyrics. What I think has happened is this is another metaphor. ‘The Sky’ being ‘fame’ or ‘the top’ as such and ‘the door’ being ‘the management’.

To me this makes a lot of sense. Because to reach fame or stardom they need a steady management company and they have to go by their rules. They cannot bribe their company to let them publicly be together or let them be free.

You look pretty good down here But you ain't really good

Firstly I just thought of the height difference because Louis is smaller and lower but It sounds as if they are both leveled so I’m guessing this could have to do with feeling low or being at the bottom.

I still haven’t really thought about ‘But you ain’t really good’ because it seems a bit harsh at first. All I have thought of was it could possibly just mean that he isn’t really good for him or thats something he has been told.

We never learned, we been here before Why are we always stuck and running from The bullets Again, powerful lyrics. The first part really represents the constant repetition of their situation. They have been there before, they have been in love and forced apart before. They never learned. They get so much pain from having to hide and lie. I think it speaks for itself. Then the second part, stuck, trapped, trying to run away from ‘the bullets’

What are the bullets? I’ve given it quite a bit of thought and I can’t decide if it’s another metaphor for the media or if is a metaphor for the media and public eye.They are stuck by expectations and rules? But the whole bullet thing really really stood out to me. I gave this a lot of thought. It was that lyric that made me believe this is about Larry.

Breaking through the atmosphere Things are pretty good from here

I think breaking through is referring to breaking the contract. When they went on hiatus, there were still boundaries but they made a breakthrough and it’s positive.

This one is a bit sad again (thx Harry) but maybe they meant meeting after they were free. It could mean so much. But I think Harry meant he can meet Louis again, just once they are far, far away from everything.

Final thoughts: I love the song, it makes me cry, it is Larry as fuck, live on, take it how u like, I love it. Go harry. I’m proud.

Like can someone explain to me how Z is the dbag and not Hompous? Z leaves and it comes out he s been dealing with mental health issues (and we ALL watched him get scary thin in 2014), he comes off a bit :/ in some print issues but the only vid intv he does, he s visibly shaky and v nervous. His promo gets messed up due to his struggles, even at the cost of pissing off the BBC. But he s a total asshole right? For daring to be human....

2. And Im not trying to say he s a saint. But like, he was clearly struggling. And even if he was using to cope? Eh 100s of popstars have admitted to same, so if he got clean then went on tour and found himself too tempted, wtf was his terrible crime? The first appearance he made he made a point to say how special the boys were? Then we have H, who 'fulfiiled his obligations' but imo acted a total arse for most of the promo except the big tv slots. Like he was smugly condescending to radio ...3.hosts that probably 1st interviewed him at 16? All the smug smiles about the hiatus? Acting so over it most of the time? Acting on stage and off like he was already going solo except at the very very end when he could count down the days? Larries were too busy screaming about Next to You! But everytime I saw him I thought he smugger than the last, dreaming of his yacht prob lol. And will he even mention the boys when doing his first appearance.

okay i KNOW like completely putting personal biases aside (lol i wish), theres definitely double standards with how zayn got treated vs how h got treated. like ofc h could be dealing with mental health issues lmao no ones denying that but like, yeah, the way he comes off, anyway idk. like obviously zayn technically shouldnt have left in the middle of a tour ahsdhfh like not a good move, but like you said, 2014 was bad it really was and if he felt like he would have had a breaking point had he stayed longer, its definitely understandable. and about the using thing too like ohhh my god when people get mad about that its????????? people that think theyve never done drugs truly exhaust me like how naive must you be?? but yeah i mean obviously its not.. ideal. but again like you said if he felt tempted, then its also understandable for him to leave??? also not to steer away from what we’re talking about but lmao people trashing zayn for the drugs thing.. theyre the same that think h has never touched a drug in his life and think that makes him better. that annoys me. but anyway. things in print can be taken out of context like yeah i get that, but compared to h, zayn at least MENTIONS them, by name. and he doesnt sugarcoat anything like he doesnt say it was great when it really wasnt. like we basically have proof that h didnt want to be in it but theres still people that insist he loved it. like.. again with the naivety. anyway. zayn still.. even after public fights :).. interacts with his band members. h really couldnt log onto fucking twitter and send a tweet to louis about jay? it looked so fucking bad that everyone else did but not him. thats undeniable! h literally just comes off like a douchebag i dont know how else to put it. he was condescending ahsdh. to interviewers i dont know really but he was so fucking annoying with the zayn jokes lmao. they were so petty and unprofessional and exhausting.

he was 100% counting down the days though oh my god. he knew had dunkirk under his belt and considering this album is already done?? he had to have been doing that too so he was ready! since 2013 really, with jeff. you know. and i talked about this before, like him acting like a solo artist. cause he was always so obnoxious during otra compared to the other tours and like maybe thats just his personality, but he wasnt like that in any other setting, so probably not lol. i dont think he’ll mention the boys tbh. definitely not if hes not asked, and if he is, expect am quote 2.0. :) that band was the best thing to ever happen to him! he’ll defend his behaviors of not interacting with them in years ahdhdhd

Friday Interview - Taron Egerton

This week your glorious host sits down with one of Royal’s most loved residents, Taron Egerton ( @soutterlytaron (. Read more below:

Taron Egerton: Good morning, mate. Thanks for having me!

Nick Grimshaw: Hey Taron! Thanks for joining us on the lovely Friday morning. How are you today?

TE: Quite all right, actually - despite being woken up way too early by our dogs. They really love their early morning runs, more than I do.

NG: Is there such a thing as too early a morning? I mean maybe it's just the radio that does it to me - but I seem to love them.

TE: Yes, there is. I'm not a morning person, at all. Which is why I became an actor - we never have early morning shoots, no sir. TE: Obviously, I'm not to be taken seriously, right now.

NG: I'm taking you completely seriously, mate. So if anyone's listening - don't hire Taron for an early morning, he's not gonna be havin' it. Is that what's drawn you to the theatre at the moment?

TE: I started out in theatre, actually. When I was 15, I joined a theatre group at a local arts centre, and since then I just couldn't imagine not acting, really. At RADA, I spent most of my time on stage, too, doing productions, working behind the scenes, working on scripts, too... and after graduating, I went and played in different theatre plays. It's a theme in my life, I think. That I was chosen for a role in a big franchise film, that was pure luck, and a lot of faith put in me by Matthew Vaughn.

NG: So does Singing In The Rain feel like more of an ode to who you were before going into film acting? Or do you think that it's always going to be what you want to do and film is just something a little extra?

TE: Don't get me wrong, I love being on film sets. Capital L. There's an atmosphere that is unlike any other, and to be able to work with people you have admired for so long... I was really lucky with my projects so far. Theatre, though, that's in my blood, as cheesy as that sounds. The thrill of being on stage, that's something I'm addicted to, no doubt about that. TE: And Singin' - it started as a re-write I did, a doodle, really, because I was bored. My project had been pushed back, I had trained and worked out and had nowhere to go, really. And then Scarlett found my doodles and turned it into a proper project... and thanks to the amazing cast, it went on to be a big success for the Baroque Theatre. And me. I'm really proud of my project.

NG: You should be proper proud mate. I've been down to see you guys and it's really something out, your doodle has really given life to something amazing. Which was a pun worthy of the Valentine's carnival. Speaking of - did you head down? Take a hot date?

TE: Okay, I'm going to be bold and go on the record with this - Jake kills it on stage every time. I'm in awe. There, I said it. TE: That Carnival - I still cannot get over the puns, they were so bad, they were good. TE: My hot date for the night was my girlfriend - we had quite a bit of fun strolling through the stands at the Plantation

NG: I've heard on the town grapevine that you guys are the most loved up couple around, so how does that feel? Do you like feeling settled or are you in one of those situations where you're both settled and have room to fly?

TE: Most what now? I'm not sure people can look at Louis and Harry and still actually say that. TE: If by room to fly you mean that we give each other the freedom to do things our own way, and meet with friends and spend our days the way we want to, then yes, that's exactly what makes us us. Honestly, though - I never thought I'd fall for someone so fully without feeling this kind of fretting you usually feel, when you know you might have someone you feel more for close to you. With Phoebe, I don't think we even thought about it much, we just went for it, one step at a time.

NG: I think when it comes down to Louis and Harry, anything that fast can't be that great - can it? But I'm not here to trash talk anyone. Equal love and all that. NG: I've never been one for relationships myself, mate, but honestly - that reminds me of my mum and dad a bit, they were always proper in love. NG: Do you have a tune you'd like to dedicate to Phoebe this morning? Or anyone really?

TE: I don't want to judge their relationship - they've known each other for ages already, so maybe they never acted out on their feelings? Either way, they're two lads with loads of kids in the house by now. It's kinda funny to see. TE: My parents divorced when I was young and my mum eventually remarried and had my sisters... I feel like there's no perfect person for you, just someone who is right for you, who'll support you and remind you that you're wrong - or right - about things, and someone who wants to spend their life with you. If you have that, that's when you know you hit the jackpot. TE: If I were kinda douchey, I'd say Ed Sheeran's "Shape of You", but honestly, that's mostly, because I heard it this morning on my run... No, I'd like to dedicate Pharrell Williams' "Happy" to the townies out there and hope they have as great a day as I have!

NG: They surely have enough kids for a football team by now! NG: I like that you put wrong their first instead of right, I agree that sometimes I absolutely need someone to tell me 'no' rather than 'yes'. Whether thats a romantic partner, my best friend or my producer Fifi. Just as a final little question, how do you think this all went? Are we setting ourselves up for success? NG: Thanks for your song choices, mate. And it's been a proper pleasure having you on the air.

TE: A mixed football team for sure. Just don't put the tiniest in goal, that'd be unfair. TE: I need to be told no a lot of times. If not, I'll just go for it and end up in a pickle more often than not. But also someone to encourage me. Phee does both and I love her for it and for many, many more reasons. I think this went rather decent, don't you think? You're definitely setting yourself up to be the radio host everyone listens to in the mornings! Fingers crossed you'll get more exposure. TE: the pleasure's been all mine. Thank you for having me.
