Hi daisie, how are you?! Just wanted to ask for your opinion about louis’ situation, do you think he’ll ever be free from whatever it is that’s preventing him/his team to actually promote his stuff and binding him to that stupid stunt years later and many other things? Or is it always gonna be this way?
Hi dear,
I don’t think so. Whatever it is that happened bts changed Louis’ life and is going to impact it forever. He’s found ways to work around it and he’s massively successful even with all the obstacles put in his way. But to be 100% free of the limitations he’s got in the industry would be like erasing the industry itself. Some powerful people decided to make his career difficult and from what other artists say about being blacklisted, it’s something you don’t just overcome or get rid of. It’s forever. Of course he has found ways around it, and he has incredible value as an artist regardless, so he’s been able to get BMG to invest into him despite these obstacles. Honestly I think his fanbase is everything and his most powerful “weapon” in this fight. If it wasn’t for his strong fanbase I think they would’ve succeeded in burying his career. But he’s persevered and found success despite it. But I don’t see this completely going away.

Louis Vs. BBC Radio
Remember the video where Dan call out BBC Radio for not playing Louis music and excluding Louis in the One Direction covers video? A fan tag BBC accounts and hosts and this was the response of Sara Cox (one of BBC Radio hosts):
Tumblr media
Last year a fan was talking about Louis show and ask for Bigger Than Me to play, Sara said that they don't play him enough.
The only times Louis' music is play are for two reasons: 1) A fan or multiple of fans ask for the song 2) Fans call out BBC for blacklisting Louis and then they play his song one time or share a video or something that include Louis.
So for them the problem is fix with this one action and after that they will keep repeating the same pattern all over again with not playing his music.

What does it mean when people say that Louis is ‘black listed’? Sorry I don’t know much about the music industry…
Hi darling. Being blacklisted isn’t a term specific to the music industry.
Tumblr media
It’s just pretty suspicious that even with all the contacts Louis has made over the years, with how many people seem to be on his side, personally, and even with how strong his built-in fan base is, his music still never makes it on to the radio.
We’ve seen evidence of his music being pulled off the radio as soon as it started to climb the charts (Back to You). And evidence that his singles aren’t even sent to radio stations to play (pretty sure that one was Miss You). And even the fact that a show like Late, Late which was run by people he was close to, didn’t have him on to promote Walls was super suspicious.
All of that happened when he was still tied to Syco/Sony and it seemed pretty obvious there was a personal vendetta of sorts coming from Simon (and possibly Sony) most likely because Louis was the fly in the ointment when it came to being able to manipulate both 1D and Harry, specifically.
A label can put pressure on outlets about running articles/playing music/featuring certain artists by using the threat of not allowing those outlets access to other artists if the don’t do as the label wishes. It’s underhanded and I don’t know that it’s even a threat that’s spoken out loud so much as implied, but it happens.
But blacklisting isn’t the only reason Louis isn’t on the radio, on the cover of Rolling Stone etc. Labels have a fixed amount of money they want to spend on promotion across all of their artists. They make a determination about who they think is going to have the biggest return. There has to be more than just a personal vendetta against him that had Sony putting him lower down on their list than fans think he deserved. TV shows, magazines etc. have the same thought process—what’s going to give us the biggest return?
And now that Louis isn’t signed to a label, and Syco is gone and Simon is barely even in the music industry, how much does what they wanted even affect Louis’ career? That’s hard to say. But while promoting FITF, Louis did allude to still not being played on the radio. And since getting placed on streaming playlists costs money and since he no longer has a label’s money to do that with, does that holds him back? How much of it is affected by all the years of sabotage Simon/Sony wreaked on his confidence, reputation, and career?
I do think there’s a level of blacklisting, but I think there’s more to it. There are plenty of artists who are never played on the radio who still grow their audiences and win awards and continue to put out music and tour successfully. Too many fans use the idea of him being blacklisted as the sole reason he’s not a household name instead of considering the idea that there are likely quite a few reasons (some of which have to do with the way he’s marketed and the genre he’s in).
Anyway… that’s a really long answer to your simple question and it’s still a pretty open ended answer. Sorry about that.

Realized my favorite ship dynamics are small who talks a lot and tall who listens (with varying degrees of interest), so I drew a line up of some pairs that came to mind!!
Figured this would also be a good way to show my fandoms/media I like, since this blog is pretty new :]
From left to right: Bdubs and Etho, Karkat and Gamzee, Louis and Legoshi, Duck and Red Guy.
Individual ships/close ups under cut!!

That post got me thinking about what characters would listen to Taylor Swift? Most characters I find interesting I can confidently say would not, but there is probably at least one?
I'm thinking about IWTV and how the vampires are, for the most part, bad artists. They want to make art, they want to be in artistic spaces, but they're ultimately not particularly talented, or in Armand's case, get by mainly on novelty and the allure of taboo rather than skillful acting. Armand and Louis surround themselves with all these great big masterpieces, so I think he has a pretty good eye for at least physical artwork, even if he doesn't have the skill to create it. Ultimately I don't think he would actually like her songs or listen to her, but he would really respect the chokehold she got over the pop music industry without even having to make good music.
Louis, I never saw him actively picking out decor, so idk about his aesthetic taste so much. We saw him appreciating the opera when he went with Lestat. I'm remembering a scene where Lestat kills a young man for singing poorly, but Louis didn't notice the difference? I'm not certain if that's canon or from a fic, but it would imply that he wasn't really that into the intricacies of high-brow music, but just liked to hear what was popular. That could've changed over the centuries since then, but I'd say he's a solid maybe.
All of that said, I can see Lestat de Lioncourt enjoying Taylor Swift a lot, because I think he has bad taste. This would change in his pop star era, because he'd be incandescent with jealous rage that his music is just as good as hers, but her songs still top the charts over his, every single time.

For everyone getting their panties in a twist over the recent denial, I only have 4 simple things to say.
1. Every time he gets a chance, he says a huge load of bullshit. All he has to say is, “Despite what people think, Harry and I are not in a relationship and never have been.” It’s a simple straight denial. How hard is that? But no. It’s always him going on a tangent over a fucking “chicken Parmesan” which is not even related to the “ship” and him going on a tangent about “iPhone conspiracies” and “google”.
2. If a rumor doesn’t go away after 14 damn years, maybe it’s time antis and locals start thinking that it might not be a rumor.
3. If there is nothing to hide, they wouldn’t hide their “friendship” over stupid rumors cause they’re both 30 year old men who could ignore public. But still, despite numerous mentions of them both saying they’ve been in touch. We only ever see Louis interacting with Liam and Niall and Zayn ffs but not Harry. And we see Harry interacting with Niall. We see Liam interacting with Harry but we never ever see interactions between Harry and Louis. Why?
4. Lastly, if we are claiming an artist to be closeted, you can’t be so dumb to take an “off-the-topic-denial” to be a proof of them being straight.
But yeah, sure! Go on! Twist your damn panties until you tear them apart. You won’t notice one of us give a fuck cause you mistook us for someone naive and easily manipulated.

Maybe you can help me understand. The LATAM promo content has been great in my opinion in quantity and quality. Louis looks relaxed and his answers show thought, humility and maturity, and with his usual sass and humor. This is the most he has shared of himself since his solo career started.
So it's become a real surprise when I've read a few anons write to blogs saying they don't like the person Louis has become, and they like 1D Louis. Another said that they think his persona has gotten "progressively worse and worse". And I'm like, did you not see the years and years of being pushed aside, of being told he had a bad voice, of no support from radio, of stunts, etc fighting for his career. And did they not watch or read his interviews?? So many interviewers during this past week have complimented Louis.
Louis can never win.
I agree, it can really feel like people are just not actually seeing the same content as we are and it's hard not to feel like some of this is that they AREN'T seeing it, like people go way too much off blogs' (often very wild) interpretations of what Louis says and how he says it rather than just listening to him talk or watching him interact with fans. Or maybe it's that they have been believing in these made up versions of him when he hasn't been around for a minute and now that actual Louis reappears it doesn't match up with those ideas and they feel shocked and upset. But if people are saying he isn't the same as he was in 1D well, it's hard not feel like they were NEVER paying attention and are just talking about the made up image of him that was sold by 1DHQ (or saying they don't like him unless he's twinky and flamboyant.) Louis said he "were a lot sweeter back then" and maybe so but in all the core ways, I think he's just the same as he has always been. If people don't like how that looks now that's their right, but he's not gonna be 19 again and he's fought hard to get to decide for himself what image he wants to project and has said over and over that he won't be going back to the 1D version of that, so maybe go find someone else to follow, IDK. Me, I'll just be over here sitting back and admiring what he's like now. I think he's the same as every time he does promo (charming, chill, funny, introspective and smart and willing to share little glimpses of emotional honesty)! It's been a while since he's done so much promo and with so much content to enjoy just now I hope more people will tune into that rather than interpretations of it and discover that for themselves. I am gonna disagree with you about one thing though: Louis CAN and IS winning, 100%, right now in front of our very fucking eyes!!! So who cares about the haters :)

What's funniest about iwtv is the way it's just normal gay relationship dynamics like it just is like that. "We have an unbreakable bond... he's my maker, my lover, my killer" - average gay person going through a breakup

You know because BBC has been sooo supportive of the boys equally, especially Louis we need it a podcast created by them. 🙄😒 😤

TikTok Star Maddie Grace Jepson Dissects Pop Culture Phenomenon One Direction in New BBC Podcast. by Raul Mencia. TikTok star & One Directioner Maddie Grace Jepson is now the host of a new BBC Radio 1 podcast, ‘One Direction: A Fan Story,” a deep dive into the rise of stan culture in relation to this generation’s biggest boy band. In the eight-part series, Jepson enlists the help of songwriters, superfans, music journalists, friends of the band & music industry insiders who witnessed the madness of One Direction’s explosion into the mainstream. Moreover, through the use of music, archive & interviews, One Direction fans or not alike will deep-dive into their history and understand the cultural scope the boy-band and their millions of fans had worldwide. Maddie Grace Jepson, who now boasts over 1.7 MILLION followers on TikTok, talks about signing onto the podcast: "I was so excited when I was asked by BBC Radio 1 to host a podcast on One Direction. My very first Twitter handle was literally ‘maddietomlinson’ with my whole account dedicated to the band, so being able to do this has literally been a dream come true.” "It’s been so fun reflecting on the amazing journey from X Factor to their first ever single, ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ through to selling out albums and tours. The One Direction hype was real and I was very much and still am a Directioner at heart.” Jepson is no stranger to the BBC family, as she has worked prior with content creator Kyron Hamilton to co-host their TikTok Takeover event in December 2022. Alongside the podcast, listeners are in for a treat as BBC Sounds will offer more One Direction content starting Friday, November 17th for their One Direction Artists Icons. This bundle includes: ‘One Direction at the BBC’ hosted by Radio 1 resident Matt Edmonson, who recounts the boy band’s history with exclusive BBC Archives; ‘One Direction and Me’ which features pop culture commentator Tyler Oakley picking out his favorite One Direction track from their extensive catalog; and ‘Fans of One Direction’ which features a one-hour playlist curated by Edmonson with music that influenced the band’s musical upbringing. The series is written and produced by Gráinne Morrison Worrell and commissioned by Executive Will Wilkins for BBC Radio 1. All eight episodes of ‘One Direction: A Fan Story’ are now available to stream on BBC Sounds.

And this is a prime example of how industry people come to hate him. He thinks he's THE Louis Tomlinson, worth £50m and above all the rules. Now next year the festival officials are going to have to run round getting people to take down their TVs.
And you are right. Emily Eavis won't let him play there after this. She's already wary or he'd have played by now.
100%. He has no clue how to behave with respect.

Louis has a bigger fanbase than most of the "famous" artists nowadays. In this day and age it's so easy to get famous or go viral really. Radio isn't the only factor anymore. If they can't get him the radio play then his team should devote their complete energy into using other sources, like being consistent on social media promotions, or some good interviews (eg - zane lowe) instead of those small radio stations who don't even play his music after it. They can't just depend on the existing fanbase given how divided it is because atleast one faction of it is mad at Louis at any given point. This is a very lazy strategy.
And Louis clearly wants the good things too, we used to say maybe Louis doesn't want to go bigger, doesn't want the mainstream stuff, but in the last year I've noticed that he very much does want it, maybe not Harry level, but still mainstream.
I agree that his team/BMG strategy is pretty confusing at times and relying so much on the fans sounds pretty lazy. However, something that intrigues the shit out of me is to what extent his blacklisting goes? I was talking to friends earlier, there are so many artists that have open up over the years about the fear of being sabotaged in the industry and all the abuse behind the scenes because it's that easy to end someone's career. So whoever is doing that with him (within Sony), it goes so much further than simply blocking him on the radio, a lot of effort is being put into it. So I agree his team could do more for him- and as fans, I'm sure we will always think that they're not doing enough - but it's also hard to guess what they can do for him since he's in such a tricky situation.
I think people may have different perceptions of what "going big" is, I think Louis wants to do the music he wants to do and be able to expand the audience that may be interested in that music. Which is the opposite of what he did at the beginning of his career, trying to go "big" and "mainstream" instead of being more authentic in his music, so I think this could have been misinterpreted. And that's the point, and that is the big shift in his career
