“In my opinion, camp is simply a matter of doing things as if you are doing them. Diving into a swimming pool? Throw your arms heavenward and give it the full Esther Williams treatment. When you dive into a pool as if you are diving into a pool, as opposed to executing an earnest quotidian plop, the result is magical—that pool is transformed from a grody Band Aid–strewn chlorine bath into a veritable LAGOON! Smoking a cigarette? Perform the action as if you are a French existentialist.” — Simon Doonan, Transformer: A Story of Glitter, Glam Rock & Loving Lou Reed

I wish records were more practical because I love listening to records specifically - they have a different feel to them which I love - but they aren't especially portable, but I love my record crackle <3
I have a Moonlight Sonata record which it quite old, so the crackling is quite pronounced, and it brings me such a strange sense of calm.
#Records just feel more calming#Or at least the calming records#Lou Reed's Transformer my beloved#mother mother my beloved#most of the records that I've bought my beloved#vinyl records

Lou Reed - Transformer (1972)
Fifty-two years ago today, on November 8th, 1972, Transformer, the second solo album by Lou Reed, was released. Produced by David Bowie and Mick Ronson, Transformer, now an influential and acknowledged milestone of glam rock, opened to a mixed critical reception. However, the album’s lead single, “Walk on the Wild Side,” was an international success despite its controversial subject matter that includes gender identity, sexual orientation, prostitution, and drugs. While it was significantly better commercially than his previous solo outing, the album performed only moderately well, peaking at No. 29 and No. 12 in the US and UK, respectively. Now, however, including two or more of Reed’s most beloved compositions—the aforementioned anthem for outsiders “Walk on the Wild Side” and the utterly exquisite “Perfect Day”—the album is hailed as one of the greatest of all time.

The original film https://youtu.be/g_Fp0EceMpA was just the two live takes - guitar and vocal and the bass track - filmed consecutively and then spliced together. Those two live takes remain the basis of this performance but the full band, including Maz on the vocal chorus, is now overdubbed onto the sound of the original film. So you get the satisfaction of the immediacy plus the extra textures of the various overdubs. This whole thing wasn't planned- we heard an interview with Herbie Flowers who created the unique bass part on the original Transformer track (and also played tuba elsewhere on that beautifully soft touch album) and just wanted to see how he did it and how much of it we could pull off in our own way. It happened quite quickly at first but then a little slower as we kept hearing more stuff on the Lou Reed track that we wanted to recreate as a Peacock Tale.

Thinking about the fact that Walk On The Wild Side was played uncensored on the UK radio because the censorship board didn't know what "giving head" meant 😭😭

Guess what ❤️
Guess what I got at the record store ❤️
I finally got this album that I was looking for. It’s funny! I casually mentioned it to the man working there, and he said it came in all the time. Then I left and he comes running out after me! I asked what’s up and he says he has it suddenly, in stock, about to go on the floor and I can buy it.
25 bucks well spent. Love you Lou!
