I'm trying to channel my impulses in a healthier, more constructive way, so instead of making 10 lbs of cookies or a too-complicated dessert requiring multiple recipes and days, I made two dozen calzones, plus Jamaican beef patties, and also salmon wellington.
See? Growth.

If you're comfortable with answering, where did you start on the path to getting your diagnosis?
A lot of what you described sounds rather similar to what I've felt/went through, but I'm a bit anxiously paralyzed by it all and don't know where to start
Started through my GP! I'd imagine it varies depending on where you are in the world, but I couldn't go through with a diagnosis anywhere without a basic assessment from my GP and a referral, since in NZ the medications are heavily regulated. First I asked for resources for a diagnosis and was given a number of places to choose from, most of which were haphazardly picked out (some of them were specifically for ADHD... in children. Others were physical appointment only, way off on the other side of the country. For some reason one of them was listed as being in the middle of the ocean. It was an interesting time). I emailed the ones that sounded plausible, asking specifically for availability, cost, waitlist, and whether telehealth was possible. From there, I chose a place and had the referral done (I also dragged my heels on it for a solid two months lol). There was no waitlist for this one and it wasn't too expensive. Since ADHD is pretty easy to self-diagnose these days there's a chance of answer bias if you're a milder case, so they did require input from outside parties, a friend and my mother, as well as school reports to try and pick up on a pattern of inattentiveness. There was a bunch of general wellness checks as well but that was discussed and arranged in-appointment, so be prepared for maybe getting those? Mostly it's for medication compatibility and concerns.
I think that covers everything?? best of luck if you decide to go for it! and remember even if you aren't diagnosed (it's natural to second-guess whether you're struggling enough. that anxiety is very hard to shake) adhd-specific coping strategies will always do you some good.

Talk about your workouts?
I'm kinda in the same boat about maybe never gonna be able to start T and I've been thinking about working out to help with the gender. But I have no idea where to start or what to do. I haven't exercised since like middle school pe...
thanks for reaching out! im no professional trainer but ive worked out episodically through my life and have a bit of biology knowledge to guide you with!
If you havent worked out in a while, its best to start with mobility exercises. They will prevent your joints from hurting badly if/when you start with strenous exercise like weight training. I recommend the youtube channels Hybrid Calisthenics and Squat University for those, they are quite cool and not condescending at all.
Once you feel more confident in your mobility, you MUST do mild cardio to improve your resistence. You can achieve this by walking uphill 10-20 minutes a day at a pace where you dont lose your breath. There are a lot of cardio videos in youtube but i dont recommend them at your stage since going above 130 ppm without previous training may be dangerous.
You know how some cis women refuse to train the chest cuz they are afraid their boobs will decrease in size? This (sadly) doesnt happen. Localized fat burn has not been proved. You can reduce breast size (if thats your objective) via generalized fat loss, which is achieved thru a mixture of exercise and (fuck!!!) calorie deficit. Dont give up on your chest tho, you can still sculpt it!!
That being said, you can still build a more masculine shape by training your upper body!! Swimming is a (very fun!!) exercise that trains your whole body but also builds back, shoulders, chest and core very efficiently.
Finally, if you start feeling lightheaded at any moment, SLOW DOWN AND DONT STOP ABRUPTLY. Take care of your beautiful brain and heart.
Im a firm believer that everyone should work out if theyre able to and have fun while doing it!! I hope this helps and i wish you a beautiful journey

Went to the doctor just for a check up and he basically just told me "your body just processes sugar very well! :) :) :) It's a good thing! :) :) :) It can't possibly be the source of your symptoms even though eating fixes it :) :) :)" But there was also a moment when talking about my iron deficiency that is possibly one of the funniest things a doctor has ever said to me, up with the cardiologist who said "you're a medical mystery": He was going over my blood test results, and said "Your iron levels haven't gone up at all, they are still extremely low, but you're not anemic anymore" And I was like how am I not anemic anymore??? And he said "Your hemoglobin levels have gone up...somehow..." while frowning at the blood test results on his computer. It was very "somehow, palpatine has returned" lol

I’m always surprised by just how many people think the general american population somehow dont know that foods like chips and soda aren’t considered healthy. like. OBVIOUSLY soda is full of sugar? that’s why I’m drinking it? I want to drink it? no one is forcing me at gun point to buy soda instead of drinking water. as an American, I’m not some mindless slave to american food companies. I’m perfectly capable of choosing what i want to eat and drink. yes, less healthy foods/drinks are typically cheaper bc they’re cheaper to make in large quantities and are fairly shelf stable. that does not mean eating and drinking those things can’t possibly be a choice. if i want a soda im going to fucking drink a soda. you can pry my dill pickle chips from crusty dead hands. stop robbing americans of their autonomy and infantilizing us when discussing the american food system. we’re well aware of what sugar and carbs are.

What the food pantry on campus does:
- gives me snacks and drinks to supplement my regular groceries, breakfast stuff, maybe ingredients for 1-2 actual meals
What the food pantry is really bad at doing:
- giving me food I can make into proper meals for the week
Oh you want juice? Here’s 2 little juice boxes. Nothing else; they’re limited. You want pasta sauce? 1 can; limited. You want produce? 2 produce item limit, except for the apples which are starting to spoil. You can have all of those. You want frozen chicken? One container only. Oh, they’re all stuck together and frozen? Sorry, you can’t have two; no chicken, I guess. Pasta? One box only. Rice? Two small bags, max. Breakfast bars? Yeahhhh, those are a snack, and you can only have five snacks, total. But if you put those pop tarts back, you could have some! Oh, you want donuts instead? Sure! But that’s a bakery item, and you can only have one baked good, so you’re gonna need to put that bread back. You want ziploc bags? Here, have two. Not two boxes, two bags. Item limits. Sorry. You can come back next week!
How the fuck are people supposed to actually *use* these things for weekly meal planning if there’s not enough to last a week???
I swear I am grateful for these resources I’m sure they’re doing the best they can with what they have I’m just *frustrated*. I’m trying to spend less on groceries bc I can’t really afford them. It’s nice that the food pantry gives me these small portions to last me a couple days. But that still leaves several days with not enough food unless I’m really creative or go grocery shopping, and I simply do not have the energy or time to be really creative.
#blue chatter#yes yes u have pasta noodles that’s GREAT#that’s not a full meal until I have sauce and meat or veggies to go with it#and your produce and meat stock are very limited if they exist#oh you have rice? great! rice on its own is not enough for a meal. what is going Into The Rice.#like obv if I have to I will just eat the pasta or the rice but a lot of the food bank’s stuff focuses on shelf stable staples and not like.#ingredients you can actually make into a full meal. like. protein and fat and vegetables or fruit.#carbs are super important but if you only have carbs then your body is gonna suffer#same if you only have protein or only have veggies/fruit or only have fat. you need all of them.#and like yes. they do have a couple basic staples like peanut butter. if I needed to make a balanced meal I could probably eat a spoonful of#peanut butter and some rice and snag a bag of apples and eat those. and I will do that if I gotta.#but the effort it would take to turn that into a dish I would enjoy and feel full after eating is. so much.#and they don’t have staple ingredients like flour or sugar or eggs#sometimes they have butter. sometimes. they had eggs once but they were rotten.#like I am so grateful for the free food believe me I am but I don’t understand how they expect students who don’t have grocery money to eat#you could get everything they let you take and still go hungry or feel sick from lack of nutrients or be unable to make food bc they don’t#have spoons or the equipment or both#also. the food pantry is SUPER not wheelchair accessible. and the parking situation is DIRE.#why are there only two (15 min limit) parking spots. but 38584847 meter spots. and the closest non-meter lot 10 minutes walk away.#I had a pain flare yesterday from lugging my groceries all the way back to my car. my gosh.#I should not have to pay for the privilege of parking a reasonable distance from the food bank when there’s spots RIGHT THERE UNUSED#nobody goes to this part of campus! everything is closed except for the food bank! why are these meter spots!

like i have no problem with eating high sugar stuff for a little bit if that’s what i want to eat, but i’m someone who usually can’t stand too much sugar in my diet and if my body has suddenly done a 180 in the past few weeks i would like to know why

My favorite food? Mnh. I am a zabrak, and we are technically hypercarnivores, so it should not surprise you to hear that my dinner of choice is protein rich.
Preferably wild caught, preferably cooked lightly, spiced heavily.
If I had to choose one penultimate option... fresh fish, it would be. Cuts of tender seafood, fatty white or pink, are a favored meal.
Gifts? Ahh... I roam too far, and move on too quickly for physical gifts to reach me... but I do enjoy poetry. Stories. Art. The odd bit of music. Particularly, anything that mocks and ridicules the jedi order. Do with that what you will.
