ok this is random, but iirc you're a Faramir enjoyer, and I've just been thinking abt this nonstop for the past more than a day now. but. I went to see the LOTR play by Tampereen Teatteri (in Tampere, Finland) woth my folks on the 21st of December. And while obviously a four-hour stage adaptation has very limited space to tell the story, they did manage to include the Gondor plot at enough length to have Faramir and Denethor as actual named characters.
And the take on Faramir was just... like. he was a lot more angry, had a lot more of that sharp edge, than the typical depiction of Faramir.
and just. yeah. it was such an unexpected thing, but I think it worked? like i liked it. it was new, it was interesting, it made for a really distinct interpretation of the character despite how little time he actually had on stage, and it's still something that makes sense for him in its way
like i'm probably not gonna entirely pivot my take on Faramir in any future fanfic i might write, but i might play with some more hints of that as flavoring, at some point
and yeah idk sorry again i just wanted to ramble to someome haha
- @fangirl-erdariel
hiii I most certainly am a faramir enjoyer! woah that's so cool?!? FOUR hours??? that's amazing omg I didn't know that was a thing! this is different to the musical, right?
AAHHH bitchy faramir rise!!!!!! imo that's a portrayal that's closer to book!faramir than the pj films? when denethor says he wishes faramir and boromir's placed had been exchanged, it says that "for a moment faramir's restraint gave way" (so he was restraining himself and showing more respect and obedience etc than he was truly feeling), and then he tells denethor that actually once faramir did listen to him and that resulted in boromir's death. so....... dad it's your fault 🫵
so yeah I definitely see some anger and sharpness there! among other things of course, but I'm really glad they tapped into that as, like you said, it's (unfortunately) not a common take! thanks for sharing!!! <33

Hey I saw your addition to the intermission post. Where's the LOTR musical coming? I love that show, and would love to see it. I can only find information about the UK production that closed a couple weeks ago.
Sadly it's not a musical but the city's Philharmonic Orchestra is doing the music so it's gotta sound good :D
It's coming to Tampere, Finland in autumn 2024. It's a totally new stage version and done in Finnish (offtopic: there's already been several Finnish stage versions, including one in the late 80s [if you want to be traumatised you can check out Hobitit from YouTube, and please note, that one does include the songs from the book!], and another some years ago at the Turku City Theatre - I saw that one and it was shorter than the Tampere version but the visuals were awesome and they literally dropped the Witch King from the ceiling just to have him be killed by Eowyn like 2 minutes later).
The theatre does not have an English language page but pasting the link to google translate and checking the page with that works pretty well.
And looking at the casting I'm even more intrigued to see it; Frodo, Merry, Pippin, Bilbo, and Gimli are all played by women. Also, Galadriel is played by a man 👀
