dude the new lore olympus fast pass was TERRIBLE. i always will try to have grace as an artist, but i cannot excuse this entire chapters EVERYTHING. it was so bad. i can’t. the art was terrible. the interpretation, not even that, the MOCKERY of Leuce’s myth is insulting. the hades and thanatos plot? so horribly ended. could’ve been serious and angsty and MAYBE had hades feel some paternal distress towards his missing son but NOPE, it was comical. the art, the art, the art. the art was terrible. the spaghetti limbs, the body proportions, the disappearing and reappearing of certain features. it was so genuinely terrible. i cannot even see how this was caused by anything other than no care or just being a terrible author and artist with no respect for your fans or story or the myths you’re basing it off of. jesus christ

Indie Creators and Critique

I'm working on a post about the new RWBY finale and some details I noticed, but I wanted to bring this up because I think it's getting out of hand:

What the hell is with all the hatedoms for indie series? Yeah, I'm looking at you YouTube Critics.

Y'all complain the heck out of the corporate schlock you get from Disney these days and whine about the lack of creativity. And then you get indie stuff and you rip it apart with the reading comprehension of a snail attempting to study pharmacology.

I LOVE critique. In fact I love it so much I've been called a hater in many fandoms for picking apart things that I don't think work very well in stories I otherwise adore.

I'm furious for what you did to RWBY. To Lore Olympus. Now trying to do to Hazbin Hotel.

On the Lord Olympus aspect, it is HILARIOUS to me that y'all think that myths have been preserved in perpetuity at the moment of their creation. Nah. In fact, much like Shakespeare's adaptations of stories (no, the man never created a story from thin air) myths have gone through revisions and syncretism and cultural contextualizations to become the myths we know today. They shift with the times an d the cultures. That's anthropology 101, baby.

For example, did you know that Greek myths adapt a lot of Sumerian/Babylonian ones? Did you know Aphrodite/Venus is likely an adaptation of Inanna, Ishtar, Astarte, and she also likely influenced Hindu stories? (This relates to the RWBY post I'm working on actually...) So by retelling any of the Greek myths you're actually misrepresenting Sumerian ones, according to your logic.

Criticism is supposed to be a conversation, not a shut down.

YouTube critics are, by and large on the whole, terrible at what they do and ignorant. If your criticism isn't a conversation, then you should maybe reconsider whether you'll do anything good or whether you'll actually just contribute to all of us having to eat bland, uninspired corporate mush. And maybe also look into why you're harsher on indie stories.

Respect Neo-Pagans and Our Gods!

Although they probably will never see it (or care), this post is meant for Hollywood, Netflix, Marvel and all other industries and streaming platforms that are hosting shows based on but twisting pagan or polytheist "mythology" or ancient religions such as Gods of Egypt, Immortals, Clash of the Titans, Thor: Love and Thunder, DT17, Supernatural, Kaos, Twilight of the Gods, Blood of Zeus, Percy Jackson, Xena: Warrior Princess, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Record of Ragnarok, American Gods, Lore Olympus, and God of War games, etc.

The trend of creating content that demonizes, humiliates, or insults our Gods is upsetting and unfair. Creative and artistic license is one thing, but it's a double-standard for content about the monotheistic god or religions to be treated with respect even when under academic criticism while are ours are depicted as one-dimensional, villainized and humiliated. We are asking for that same respect.

Yes, content about any kind of "mythology" is fun, but the modern world needs to please remember that these were and still are RELIGIONS to many people around the world, myself included.

People worshipped these Gods, listened to their stories around the fire, married under their vows, raised their children, went to war, and but also built magnificent structures, wrote literature, prayed in their temples, and many more!

In fact, we still have vestiges of their worship! The names of the months and days of the week in the Western world come from Roman or Norse/Germanic Gods, the Olympic Games were originally dedicated to Zeus, the Hippocratic Oath was originally a prayer offered to Apollo, people from all over the ancient world visited the shrine and oracle at Apollo's Delphi, and many more examples.

And while yes, sometimes people were sacrificed to some pagan Gods (not so much the Greeks or Romans), but are we really going to pretend that many more people haven't died in the name of Christianity or Islam??

Lord Zeus wasn't just some womanizer, he was also King of the Gods, Father of Gods and Humans, the God of Hospitality, Oaths, Lightning, Law, Order, Authority, Monarchy, etc.

This was also Lord Zeus of the ancient Greeks:

Even if you personally don't worship these Gods, at least respect the fact that your ancestors did. Imagine if 100-200 years from now your descendants start making movies and shows that demonize or humiliate Yahweh, Jesus, Allah and Mohammed, etc.!

Biography

What can one say about the God of Death and the Underworld? The eldest son of Cronos and Rhea, Hades always felt as though he should've been the true king of the Gods given that he was older than both of his brothers - but since Zeus had been the one to free him and the rest of their siblings since they had been swallowed by their father. It had been something that he didn't quite appreciate, but he knew that he could wait and bide his time - that he would eventually get his chance to claim the power that he sought.

And when Zeus welcomed Hercules into the world, he had tried to kill the young child - by first trying to drain him of his godly powers with a potion - but his minions failed and only managed to drain most of his power, leaving him with his godly strength. For years, Hades had tried to find the young child but he couldn't find him until he heard tales of the young man that was protecting Thebes. Through cunning and careful planning, Hades tried to trick Hercules to his death - first by tricking him to fight a Hydra, which he managed to succeed in, and second with the help of a young woman that he kept in his employ...

But it didn't work and, eventually, Hercules managed to thwart his attempts to claim Olympus for himself. Left to sulk in the Underworld, the god of death began to plot and scheme some more... wondering just how he would be able to claim his rightful reign as king of the gods and ruler of Olympus.

Heart of the Forest

trying to get back into the groove of writing, so this is a mostly stream of consciousness little piece that i wrote today. i'd love any kind feedback, encouragement, or constructive criticism as i'm trying to improve my writing. thanks guys! <3

Apollo took the hand of his lover, gently guiding him to the grove of trees near their encampment. Hyacinthus went willingly, grinning up at his golden lover as they slowly meandered their way towards the trees. The embankment they were under provided succor and shelter as the two men gazed into each other’s eyes. Slowly, twilight turned into dusk as they coupled, learning once more the secret ins and outs of each other’s persons. Every gasp and sigh and moan and flutter all wove together to form the heady spell of the grove they inhabited. Birds twittered in the trees and little sprites danced gaily among the leaves as they came together again and again, resting in each other’s arms as they drowsily professed their love. Wine and other refreshments were brought out in due course, and the lovers drank and supped to their hearts’ content. And when it came time for Hyacinthus to don once more his garments that spake of his identity as one of the wandering Dúnedain, he did so with a marked reluctance. A glowing hand gently stroked his arm as Apollo observed his lover transform once more into the silent hunter, a presence nearly indistinguishable from the grass and dirt, except for those who had clear sight. Sighing, Hyacinthus bestowed a wistful smile upon Apollo and drew him in for one last, passionate kiss, before slipping softly into the trees, catching the last rays of dusk on his bow as he left their private grove.

The wind whistled, and there seemed to come both a chilling and a calming of the forest. Apollo straightened, gathering his own loose chiton around himself, but was arrested by a presence at his back.

“You are lucky, little brother.” The voice was measured, moderated, but he knew that voice, knew the ire that could so easily be stirred up within it. “Your favor with the sun god has granted you credit in my woods. Try not to push it to the limit.”

“Ah, little sister.” He could feel her bristle behind him at the inaccurate epithet, “You always know how to brighten my day.”

“Night, more like. You know your allotted time with the mortal ends at dusk. I repeat, do not push your favor with Lord Helios. Though he may have granted you and your lovers the use of the day, it is I who rule the night. Do not abuse this privilege.”

Turning to face his sister, Apollo gazed full into the face of Artemis. His elder by mere minutes, she still gazed upon him with the dread gaze that had turned many a mortal into a cowering beast. Yet Apollo gazed without fear, a lifted brow and a playful smirk gently testing the limits of his sister’s patience. Her stony gaze remained unchanged as she stood, regal with her knarled walking stick set before her like a scepter. And for all intents and purposes it was.

“See to it your lover knows the conditions of our agreement.” She finally spoke. Apollo dipped his head in acknowledgement, then slowly, ever so slowly, he shimmed up the bark of a tree and caught the last dying rays of the sun back up to his golden castle nestled near the heart of Olympus. Artemis tracked his progress up the sky, her brow knit with that special blend of irritation and almost motherly concern that she always felt towards her little brother. Once his golden train fully vanished above the cloudy cover dotting the horizon, Artemis sighed again. Her silver hair seemed to shine all the more brilliantly, and she lifted her fingers to her lips, summoning her Hunters with the invisible whistle heard only to their ears. The scampering of their feet could not be heard but only felt as the girls slipped through the trees, answering forever to their leader’s call.

 “Though the young King’s heart be yours, little brother, the heart of the Forest be mine forevermore.” Whispered the radiant goddess, with the pulse and the fury of the chase filling her veins. It would be a good hunt tonight.

I get people saying ‘It’s not that serious’ but this is a community and series a lot of us care a lot about and I think it’s ok for us to be angry. Everyone’s feelings are valid. If you loved it I am so so happy for you, but for those of us who really wanted to love it and did not, I want that to be okay to talk about too. As long as everyone is respectful to each other. But for me I have to admit that this book ruined PJO a bit for me? It doesnt feel the same and I have never felt this way about a Ricky book. Wow this is breaking my heart a lot to admit

i haven't read it yet and i'm honestly a little nervous to. i've been seeing a lot of criticism for the book and am nervous to see how good or bad it is. i personally liked tcotg but was a bit disappointed with how the "percy needs to go on a quest" idea was executed (...recommendation letters? really?). still loved seeing the original trio back in action and loved the overall message. not one of my favourite RR-verse books but i definitely liked it. i don't know if the new book will match up, and from what i've read... it hasn't.

i don't mind RR focusing on the show (i love the show, if that wasn't clear) and don't know if the quality of the books is due to the show. i honestly haven't read many of the follow-up books after PJO and HoO because i feel a lot of it focused on quantity over quality, even before the series release. i just don't know why this has been going on.

i'm going to be reading the book later (i'm a little preoccupied as of right now), and i really hope to be proven wrong about my pre-judgement.
